It is the only remaining ancient city gate in Suzhou and the only existing water and land parallel city gate in the country.
It was first built in 514 BC and was one of the eight city gates of Suzhou City built by Wu Zixu. The existing Panmen was rebuilt in the Yuan Dynasty.
The essence of Panmen Scenic Area lies in the “Three Scenic Spots of Panmen”: Ancient Panmen, Wumen Bridge and Ruiguang Pagoda.
To the west of Panmen is the Wu Xiang Temple in memory of Wu Zixu, which consists of halls, pavilions and gardens. Pingtan performances are often held in the east courtyard.

Passing through Sirui Hall, a different scene unfolds before your eyes. The entire garden has been rebuilt according to the concept of one pond and three mountains, with a broad view and beautiful scenery.
There are pavilions and towers everywhere. The most eye-catching one is the Lijing Tower in the center. Although other buildings except the Ruiguang Tower are basically newly built, the overall style is in accordance with the traditional garden construction style, which looks very harmonious.
The ticket is 40 yuan. I got an annual leisure card, which allows me to visit 100 times a year. It is very convenient to swipe the card.
There are several entrances, cross the Wumen Bridge and enter from the south.
The three famous Panmen scenes are the "Panmen" water and land gate, the "Wumen Bridge" across the canal, and the "Ruiguang Temple Pagoda" reflecting its image in the river. The three scenes are connected by the Grand Canal.
Panmen is majestic and has two parts, the inner and outer parts. Standing inside the square urn city, you will feel helpless and frustrated, like "catching a turtle in a jar". Standing on the city wall, you can see the entire land gate, water gate, urn city area and structure. In ancient times, Panmen had multiple uses: water and land transportation on weekdays, opening the gate to prevent floods in the rainy season, and defending the city during wartime. Its exquisite design can be seen from this.
Wumen Bridge is located near Panmen and was first built in the Northern Song Dynasty. The bridge is named after the fact that it is a strategic point for both land and water transportation and is also known as the gateway to Wuzhong. This is a typical large single-arch stone bridge with the characteristics of a Jiangnan water town. The bridge hole is high and boats can pass smoothly. The bridge has a steep slope and many stone steps. Due to its age, many of the stone steps are uneven and sunken in many places.
Ruiguang Temple Pagoda was first built during the Three Kingdoms period and was named after the five-colored lights that appeared on the pagoda. It has eight sides and seven floors and is a brick-and-wood attic-style pagoda that is simple and elegant.
The scenic area includes a central courtyard with the traditional classical garden layout of "one pond and three mountains", exquisite ancient buildings, water village style, mountain pools and pavilions, lake and mountain shadows, etc. It has both a simple and vicissitudes of history and a bold and bright modern atmosphere. When visiting, you can feel the profound connotation of Suzhou Wu culture.
I had no intention of visiting Panmen Scenic Area. Although there is a saying that "the Great Wall is majestic in the north and Panmen is beautiful in the south", Panmen is much less famous than Suzhou Gardens. But it turns out that chance encounters during travel often give people surprises.
In fact, Panmen is not only a city wall and tower, but also a large garden area with many historical relics. Gardens like the Liuyuan Garden can make people feel the gracefulness and elegance of Suzhou, while the Panmen Scenic Area is a bit like the solemnity of the north, which is also another side of the ancient city of Gusu.
There are several tall ginkgo trees near the Panmen Tower. The tower looks very old against the backdrop of the golden leaves. I was excited to see the ginkgo leaves all over the ground. Isn't this the fallen leaf photo I want to take? Hurry up and pose in various shapes. Ginkgo and the ancient city are the best CP.
Although the Panmen City Wall is not as tall and majestic as the city walls in the north, it is still very shocking when standing under the city wall and looking up at the city tower. Especially since there are few tourists in the Panmen Scenic Area, it is easy for a person to "read the vastness of the world" and feel awe for history.
When I walked out of the Panmen Tower and saw the city gate on the moat, I discovered the most historically valuable part of Panmen. It seems that the ancient city gate alongside the waterway is indeed very special.
In general, Panmen Scenic Area is more interesting than expected. If you are not in a hurry, it should be nice to climb the city wall and tower to recall the past scene and overlook the world. And it is also very pleasant to stroll along the walking path of the moat. I really envy people living in Suzhou.
The three scenic spots of Panmen in Suzhou are the "Panmen" water and land city gate towering in the southwest of Suzhou, the "Wumen Bridge" spanning the canal, and the "Ruiguang Temple Pagoda" reflecting its image in the river. The three scenes are connected together by the surging Grand Canal, forming a famous scenic spot in the ancient city of Suzhou.
I was tricked into visiting Panmen at the entrance of Humble Administrator's Garden. It's quite big inside and I was most impressed by the design of the city gate. It was already evening when I arrived at Panmen, and it was completely dark when I visited inside. Since I went alone, I was unable to explore in depth.
You can climb the city wall, see the night view, the Grand Canal, and the ancient water and land city.
Ancient Panmen, Wumen Bridge, and Ruiguang Pagoda are the three scenic spots of Panmen, quiet and free.
It is near the cruise ship terminal. There are not many people. There is a tower at the entrance and a water city gate inside.
09.1.28. Went there after visiting Qilishantang. Really don't have any impression. Just felt it was average.
My first golden answer is this: How to experience the Jiangnan charm of Suzhou in two days? http://www.mafengwo.cn/wenda/detail-7488201-7490197.html.
I recommend the Panmen Three Scenic Spots. The Panmen Three Scenic Spots are actually the routes of many tour groups, but compared with independent travel, they are less known, so there are relatively few people, especially during non-holidays, so it is easy to take photos.
The three scenic spots of Panmen are Ruiguang Pagoda, Water and Land Gate, and Wumen Bridge.
The ticket was 20 yuan a long time ago, and according to Baidu information, it is now 40 yuan, but it includes hand-cranked boats and so on. A long time ago, many of my aunts came to Suzhou together, and I brought them here. The scenic area is super large, and it is no problem to play for half a day or a day (of course, there is no need to play for a whole day). The city gate is very spectacular, and it is like a dream to face the sunset at night.
The Water and Land Gate is the filming location of the Kingdom of Women in Journey to the West. Standing under the gate, you will feel like you are in the set of A Chinese Odyssey. The Supreme Treasure stands on the tower in front of you and tells you: That person looks like a dog.
I went there once in the winter, and I plan to visit Suzhou again during the Golden Week. I have been to Panmen before, so I won’t go there this time. But it is really beautiful. Here are two photos for you to see.
Recently, Panmen lanterns have been installed, and under the reflection of the lights, the Panmen scenic area has become more beautiful.
The hotel I stayed in was very close to Panmen, and I could walk there. The Internet said that there were few people visiting Panmen, but in fact there were quite a lot of people. I saw several tourist groups waving flags. Panmen Scenic Area is very large and the scenery is also good. If you want to visit it carefully, you need half a day. The Internet said that you can take a boat, but I didn't find it. The ticket price is 40, but it only costs 25.5 when you buy it online, which is still worth it.
The most amazing thing about this trip to Suzhou is Panmen. It is not ranked at the top of the list of scenic spots. Maybe that's why there were few tourists when I went there that day. It's rare to find a quiet place in this bustling Suzhou.
Don't order the 27 yuan ticket online, buy the 40 yuan ticket directly. The 27 yuan ticket does not allow you to go up the tower.
Panmen Scenic Area has changed the feeling of Suzhou Garden Jiangnan Water Village. The first half is solemn and majestic, with a bit of northern characteristics.
The ancient city gate ruins are lower than the northern city wall in terms of height, but it is a unique water and land city gate. Seeing the old weapons on the city wall, it seems to have returned to the era of the Spring and Autumn Period. For a moment, the feeling of the Jiangnan water town is gone. From the city wall, it can be seen that the ancient city is in the south of Suzhou today. As for how to see it? You can experience it yourself. 😁
At the end of the scenic area is the summit site, where there are many friendship gifts from heads of state. It is a quiet place where no one is around and you can stroll around leisurely. The surrounding scenery has returned to the Jiangnan water town. You can appreciate the beauty of the water town in a leisurely stroll, instead of other crowded attractions.
Panmen is located in the southwest of Suzhou City, on the bank of the ancient Grand Canal. There are three scenic spots: Panmen, Ruiguang Temple Pagoda and Wumen Bridge. The ancient city was first built in the Spring and Autumn Period. The existing city gate was rebuilt on the original site in the 11th year of Zhizheng in the Yuan Dynasty (1351). Later, Zhang Shicheng built a urn city. It was renovated several times during the Ming and Qing Dynasties. The water and land gates face each other, in a L-shaped shape, which is quite spectacular and unique in China. The water gate is on the south side of the land gate. It has two layers inside and outside, with a depth of 24 meters. There are sluice gates and wooden fences in front and behind. Only the remains of the door mortars are left. There is a secret passage between the two gates leading to the city tower. The land gate also has two layers, with Zhou's 180-meter square urn city (soldier cave) in the middle, which can hide hundreds of soldiers. There is a "Panmen" city wall on the southwest front, a ramp to climb the city wall on the north city, battlements built on the city, and defensive facilities such as galloping roads, shooting holes, gun holes, sluice gates and keystones along the outer walls. The city walls on both sides have been well preserved to this day.
It was my first time to come to this place. I heard from my friends that there was nothing inside, so I didn't buy a ticket to enter the park. I waited at the gate. But I wanted to go to the restroom. I didn't tell the people at the gate outside the park. I wanted to go in to use the restroom, but the guard asked me if I had bought a ticket and entered. If I hadn't been in, I wouldn't be allowed to use the restroom. What kind of place is this? I didn't go there to visit. I just went to the restroom and came out right away. What kind of attitude? I won't come here in my next life. I advise everyone not to come here either.
Even people who come to Hangzhou, another paradise, will like the scenery here
The scenery is beautiful, there are few people, it is open and cool, and the sun was setting when we went there. Many factors contributed to this optimal experience.
A long section of the Panmen city wall is open to tourists. The setting sun shines on Rouge's soft hair, and the early summer breeze from the ancient city river blows on our faces. We all stay here and don't want to leave.
Suzhou One-Day Tour Morning:
In the morning I came to Panmen Scenic Area, which has convenient transportation as it is only a 15-minute walk from the subway.
I heard from netizens in Suzhou that tickets to the scenic spot are free during the Dragon Boat Festival and Wu Zixu’s birthday every year.
Panmen Scenic Area is the remains of an ancient city gate, with the city gate as the dividing point. Many historical relics can be seen on the city tower, with yellow Wu flags flying. Looking down from the city tower, you have a feeling of being high above, as if history has returned to that era.
It took me three hours to visit the entire scenic area. There are some small shops inside, but it is still recommended to bring dry food and water, because the sun in Suzhou is quite hot in these two months. There are not many people in the scenic area, and it is worth a visit.
The Water and Land Gate, the Ruiguang Tower, and the Wumen Bridge form the three scenic spots of Panmen. You can see the Water and Land Gate and the Wumen Bridge on the fitness trail, and you can see the Ruiguang Tower from a distance. Residents nearby like to walk and exercise near the trail. You can also climb up the tower to watch the cruise ships on the canal. The cruise ship dock is at the nearby Xinshi Wharf.
The scenery of this kind of place is a major attraction, and the rest depends on the historical background. So I followed the WeChat public account of "Panmen Scenic Area", which has audio commentary, which can help us understand some background knowledge. Of course, if you encounter a tour group, you can also go over and listen. Many stories about Panmen are about Wu Yue and the Three Kingdoms. For me, who has given all my history to teachers, it still sounds very interesting.
The scenic area includes Panmen and the Ruiguang Pagoda next to it, and the ticket price is 40 yuan. Facing the entrance is the nearly thousand-year-old Ruiguang Pagoda, which is more than 50 meters high and is the tallest among the ancient pagodas in Suzhou, but it is tall and beautiful.
The tower was first built during the Chiwu reign of the Wu Kingdom during the Three Kingdoms period and rebuilt during the Song Dynasty, so the archway in front of the scenic area is inscribed with Chiwu relics. I saw the stele inscribed by Emperor Taizu of the Ming Dynasty on the Ruiguang Tower and the thousand-year-old plum tree.
The pagoda has seven floors, but you can only climb to the fifth floor. The view from the top of the pagoda is quite open.
Behind the tower is the newly built Sirui Hall and Jiangnan Garden.
From a distance, I saw the words "Wumen Lock and Key" written on the tower behind Panmen. When I got closer, I finally saw the famous water gate, which is 5-6 meters wide and can accommodate two ships. It is really a feature of the Jiangnan water town. In the past, ships coming from the nearby Beijing-Hangzhou Grand Canal could directly enter Suzhou City through the water gate. After passing through the gate, the words "Water and Land Revolving" were written on the main gate of the tower.
It is actually a large park, but the ticket is very expensive, 40/person. There are many locals having picnics and gatherings inside. There are propaganda signs of "Party Building Knowledge of Panmen Park Branch" everywhere in Panmen Park, which is also quite politically conscious. The gardens here are relatively ordinary, and the biggest highlight is the amphibious city gate.
The main attractions of Panmen Scenic Area include: 1) Ruiguang Pagoda, 2) Water and Land Gate, 3) Wumen Bridge
CCTV National Treasure Archives has made a program about Ruiguang Pagoda and the pearl relic pagoda excavated from it. The link is as follows:
***100232480132/3536b1ee1adf4bd27261928a1ccbe1f6
It is located by the Outer City River, with unique water and land gates. There are not many tourists, so you can visit it quietly. There is the Ruiguang Tower built in the Eastern Wu Dynasty, the water and land gates designed by Wu Zixu, and the Wumen Bridge outside the scenic area. It is a place where you can learn about the history of Gusu City.
Wu Zixu founded Suzhou City, which had eight city gates. Now only Panmen Gate remains. Panmen Gate is the only land and water city gate in the world. I admire the wisdom of the ancients. The ticket for Panmen Scenic Area is 45 yuan, and it takes 1-2 hours to visit.
I thought it was just a tower and a city wall, nothing to see. But I found out I was wrong after entering. It is absolutely beautiful!!!!!! Panmen is not like the Humble Administrator's Garden, which is crowded with people and ruins the mood of appreciation. But at Panmen, there are few people, plus this season, the plum forest all over the mountain, with a slight drizzle, perfect.
Panmen was once a major transportation route and important barrier for this ancient city. The Grand Canal encircles the city walls and goes around the city; going north along the canal and west along the mouth of the Xu River, you can reach Taihu Lake; to the south, it is close to the important towns of Wujiang, Songling, Pingwang, etc. in Jiangsu and Zhejiang; the land routes are crisscrossed and connected in all directions.
The biggest highlights here are the water of Panmen, Luchengmen and Wumen Bridge, which is also one of the 48 scenes of the moat, "Dragons Coiling on Land and Water".
Panmen was first built in the Spring and Autumn Period (514 BC) and rebuilt in the late Yuan Dynasty. The tower was rebuilt in the early summer of 1986. Panmen is the best-preserved water and land gate in Suzhou and even in the whole country. It is also the oldest existing city gate in Suzhou. The two gates are more than 100 meters apart and both have urn cities. The older they are, the more powerful they are, and they have extremely high historical and cultural value.
The water city gate is composed of two arched city gates and a water urn city. The water gate can be opened and closed at any time with a hinge. This thoughtful war preparedness and flood prevention design is an innovative work in the history of ancient city construction that adapts to local conditions.
One of the three scenic spots of Panmen is the "Ruiguang Pagoda". The Ruiguang Pagoda is a seven-story, eight-sided brick-wood structure pavilion-style ancient pagoda. The brick-built tower consists of three parts: the outer wall, the corridor and the tower core. The wooden waist eaves and the flat seat are highlighted by brick-wood brackets. The height of each floor decreases layer by layer, and the outer contour is slightly curved, which looks elegant, soft, dignified and simple. It embodies the style and structural characteristics of the ancient pagodas of the Song Dynasty and is indeed a rare masterpiece.
Panmen is the only existing waterway city gate in China. The scenic area is similar to a park, with not many places to visit. I have seen too many gardens in Suzhou, so I don’t feel much about this place. Only the waterway city gate attracts me. These days, the Humble Administrator's Garden and the Lion Grove are crowded, so you can enjoy the relative tranquility here.
According to ancient records, Suzhou City was originally the capital of the State of Wu during the Spring and Autumn Period, built by Wu Zixu under the order of King Helu of Wu in the sixth year of King Jing of Zhou (514 BC). Panmen is one of the eight gates of Wu. It is called Panmen because it is "half land and half water, winding along the way". It is also called Panmen because a wooden dragon was hung on the gate to intimidate the State of Yue. It consists of three parts: Ruiguang Tower, Wumen Bridge, and the land and water gates. Therefore, it is also called the "Three Scenic Spots of Panmen".
Worth a visit, very good, very good! @! ! ! !
2017.2 I came to Suzhou for the second time. To investigate the religious situation in the suburbs of Suzhou. I spent the afternoon in Panmen Scenic Area, and after eating noodles at Dongwu Noodle House. It was the early spring plum blossom season, and Panmen is not a popular Suzhou attraction after all, so I enjoyed a very pleasant afternoon with Hanghang~
"There is the majesty of the Great Wall in the north and the beauty of Panmen in the south." The beauty of the three scenic spots of Panmen lies in its long history. Walking in the evening is a unique experience.
The last stop in Suzhou, the Old City Gate and Panmen Three Scenic Spots.
I didn't buy a ticket, but walked around outside. It's quite unique and not crowded.
It was already afternoon when I arrived in Suzhou, so I wanted to walk around. I found the Panmen scenic spot, which sounds very impressive. It is built in an antique style and is suitable for taking photos.
When talking about Panmen, we have to focus on Wu Zixu. He was a senior official and military strategist of the State of Wu during the Spring and Autumn Period (559-484 BC). He was originally a general of the State of Chu. Because his father and brother were killed by King Ping of Chu, he fled from Chu to Wu and became an important official of King Helu of Wu. He presided over the construction of Suzhou City.
In 506 BC, Wu Zixu and Sun Wu led troops to attack the State of Chu, avenging his father and brother. With the help of Wu Zixu and others, the State of Wu successively destroyed the States of Xu, Lu, Qi, etc., becoming the hegemon at that time.
Before his death, King Helu of Wu asked Wu Zixu to assist the young emperor Fuchai. He also conferred Wu Zixu the highest title, "Prince Xiangguo."
After Fuchai succeeded to the throne, he defeated the Kingdom of Yue. King Goujian of Yue surrendered. Wu Zixu believed that the Kingdom of Yue should be destroyed in one fell swoop. But Fuchai did not listen. As a result, he had a disagreement with Wu Zixu. In addition, the treacherous ministers slandered Wu Zixu and falsely accused him of treason. Fuchai then sentenced Wu Zixu to death. In his anger, Wu Zixu left a will. He asked his family to dig out his eyes and hang them on the city gate after his death. He wanted to watch the Yue army destroy the Wu Kingdom with his own eyes. King Fuchai of Wu was extremely angry. On the fifth day of the fifth month, Wu Zixu's body was put into a cowhide bag and thrown into the Qiantang River. Nine years later, the Wu Kingdom was indeed destroyed by King Goujian of Yue. Fuchai also drew his sword and committed suicide.
Wu Zixu helped King Helu of Wu build Helu City (the predecessor of Suzhou City). Panmen was the amphibious defense gate he built to prevent attacks from other countries. After his death, his eyes were dug out and hung on this Panmen. Nine years later, the Yue army also invaded Wu from the most solid Panmen. After Wu Zixu's death, his body was thrown into the Qiantang River, and there was a saying that "there is no place to bury his body". The local people in Suzhou admired him. Every year on the Dragon Boat Festival, they made rice dumplings, toasted, and read sacrificial texts. In the Wu Xiang Temple in the Panmen Scenic Area, we worshiped this loyal minister of Wu. This is why we came to visit Panmen.
Panmen is a square city. In the middle is an urn city. There is an arrow tower and two iron gate hinges on the city wall. Now the gate is lifted. If it is lowered, it can block the river and the enemy cannot enter the city through the water gate. There are two gates in the urn city, but they are not on the same central axis. The gate facing outward is large, and the gate facing the inner city is small. During the war, a small number of people are used to lead the enemy into the urn city, and then their own people withdraw from the small gate, leaving the enemy soldiers in the urn city, and then close the gate, shoot arrows on the city wall, and no enemy soldiers can escape. It is very scientific. This is the military tactics of closing the door to beat the dog and catching the turtle in the urn that Wu Zixu first invented.
When we were listening to the tour guide's explanation on the city wall, there was a group of tourists in the city, and we wanted to take pictures with our cameras. The tour guide said: "Don't take pictures of people in the city, that's a battlefield, it's unlucky to take pictures." After walking down the Panmen Tower and going out, you will see the Wu Xiang Temple. There is a river next to it. There is a wooden boat ferry pier on the shore. Tourists can take a hand-cranked boat to see the big sluice gate under the water gate. The 40-yuan ticket for the Panmen Scenic Area includes a cruise. The boat went through the sluice gate and circled back for 7-8 minutes. Next to the Panmen Scenic Area is the Beijing-Hangzhou Grand Canal
The "Three Scenes of Panmen" are the "Panmen" water and land city gate towering in the southwest of Suzhou, the "Wumen Bridge" spanning the canal, and the "Ruiguang Temple Pagoda" reflecting its image in the river. The three scenes are connected together by the surging Grand Canal, forming a famous scenic spot in the ancient city of Suzhou.
Panmen Scenic Area[1] is located in the southwest corner of Suzhou Old City, covering an area of 24.86 hectares. It has many historical sites and rich cultural landscapes. Ruiguang Pagoda, Water and Land City Gate and Wumen Bridge in the scenic area are all national key cultural relics protection units. In order to promote historical culture and accelerate the development of tourism, in recent years, Panmen Scenic Area has restored the ancient city wall, renovated the Ruiguang Pagoda Courtyard, rebuilt the Four Rui Hall, Wu Xiang Temple and the Release Pond, and also created a pond and three mountains, planted trees and grass, and meticulously built Lijing Tower, Shuangting Corridor Bridge, Shuilian Cave and other scenic spots. It is a Suzhou Old City renovation and protection project with unique historical and cultural connotations. It is divided into five parts: the entrance area, the Ming and Qing commercial area, the central courtyard area, the western residential area, and the city wall park area. It also organically combines Wumen Bridge, the ancient Panmen and Ruiguang Pagoda to form a unique scenic tourism pattern.
Ancient amphibious city gate. Marvel at the wisdom of the ancients.
Panmen, December 13, 2012, Suzhou.
Panmen was first built more than 500 years before Christ and has a history of more than 2,500 years. It is mainly composed of the "Panmen" water and land gate, the "Wumen Bridge" across the canal, and the "Ruiguang Temple Pagoda" facing the river. Among them, Panmen is not only the only ancient city gate relic left in Suzhou, but also its coexistence of water and land gates is unique in the country. The ancient city wall has stood for more than 3,000 years. It was built in 1351 AD and is older than the water and land gate. The mottled city wall has experienced vicissitudes of life like a thousand years. The water city gate is the only waterway connecting the inside and outside of the southwest corner of the city. The inner and outer water city gates are all built of granite, and the tall city gate hole can accommodate two ships passing side by side. As the throat of the Grand Canal, this place was once extremely prosperous. The lijin collected here was once one of the important sources of tax revenue for Gusu. Wu Zixu, who turned white overnight, played a very important role in the construction of Gusu City, so many places in Suzhou City today have the mark of Wu Xiang. His achievements were certainly great. However, whipping a corpse to avenge his death always felt excessive. Li Guang fought hundreds of battles but was not awarded a title, not because of his small achievements, but because of his magnanimity.
I took my kids to see the Water and Land Gate, which is smaller and not as spectacular as those in Nanjing and Xi'an. But considering that this is a building from the Spring and Autumn Period, it is quite unique. In spring, the outer city river is full of pink peach blossoms and green willows. It is really nice if the weather is good. Unfortunately, it was cloudy one day and rainy the next day when I went there. Fortunately, you can visit the scenic spot for free if you stay at the hotel, which is nice.
Stayed at the Wugong Pan Pacific Hotel, and could visit the Panmen Scenic Area for free with the room card. The small scenery was okay.
It took about 6 minutes to walk to the authentic entrance of the scenic spot and buy a ticket to enter. I am from Jiangnan and I am used to the scenery here. The rockery pavilions are nothing new. But the plum blossoms in the garden are popular. There are pink and rose-red ones, and they are in full bloom. Although many of them are still in the state of flower buds, they also attract bees to come and coil among the flowers. The sun is warm and it feels quiet and beautiful. After a circle, I climbed up the city wall, but I didn't see the Wumen Bridge. Finally, I realized that the Wumen Bridge was outside the scenic spot, so why I bought a ticket to come in. The moat surrounds the Panmen Scenic Area. The pedestrian trail next to it is against the city wall and facing the moat. Cruise ships come and go on the river. The breeze blows. There are citizens walking their dogs and running. It's so leisurely.
Except for the city gate tower, all others are newly built. If time is tight, we recommend other more important attractions.
The tickets to Panmen Scenic Area are not expensive, but I personally suggest that if you don’t have enough time in Suzhou, you can forget about visiting Panmen. Although Panmen is known as one of the three scenic spots, it is only a water gate to visit. You can’t go up the tower and take pictures there, so there is no point.
Ruiguang Tower, Water and Land City Gate and Wumen Bridge in the World Heritage Scenic Area are all national key cultural relics protection sites. Tickets are 40 yuan
Panmen was the last stop on 20170112. It was already past 13:00 when we went there. We met several tour groups from the main gate, some going and some returning. However, there were not many people at Wugong Temple and Shuilu City Gate. The core of this scenic spot is here! In addition, the city gate can be climbed from the left side facing the Lumen, which makes the trip worthwhile.
Suzhou Panmen Scenic Area, you can climb the tower at the entrance, and there are rowing boats inside
The culture of Wumen style is fascinating. The legend of Ruiguang Pagoda is fascinating.
Speaking of Panmen Scenic Area, it was a big surprise! At first, only Ruiguang Pagoda was famous, O(∩_∩)O~, because it was a different feeling to see the real scene from the model of Suzhou Museum. The ticket was 40 yuan, and the ticket purchased online in advance was only 32 yuan per person. After entering the scenic area, I took a picture of the guide map first. It turned out that this step was very important.
The ticket is 40 yuan, and if you book in advance through Ctrip, it's only 32 yuan. I saw the model of Ruiguang Pagoda in Suzhou Museum, and went to Panmen to see the real scene. Through the scenic area tour map, I found the only remaining ancient water and land city gate in the world. It was a surprise, because even ancient Rome didn't have it!
In the past, when the city gates were closed and arrows were fired, there were piles of dead bodies everywhere.
It has gone through many vicissitudes and is worth a visit.
First of all, Panmen Scenic Area is quite worth visiting. It is considered a very ancient landscape in Gusu.
There are also many buses in Panmen, and bus No. 305 can go to the north gate of Panmen Scenic Area.
In fact, it would be better to visit Panmen from the South Gate, which is the Wengcheng. There was a tour guide when we went there, so we knew some of the historical attractions inside.
Hikers can climb up the city gate first, and friends who like taking photos can take beautiful photos from the top of the city gate.
After you get off the city gate, you will see some buildings and gardens. You can head towards the tower, which is the exit of the northern area of Panmen. When you join a tour group, you may be asked to attend a so-called cultural performance, which is basically selling art and calligraphy. You can just watch the fun.
The night view of Panmen is quite beautiful, but it feels a bit desolate. You can walk on the large and small stone bridges in the scenic area to experience the feeling of the ancient Suzhou city.
There is also a wind chime next to the tower, which sounds very nice when the wind blows. Don't miss it. The tower is also spectacular, but I didn't go up. Friends who are interested can go to the temple next to it to burn some incense. After leaving the temple, you will reach the north gate. If you walk to the left, you will find a bus stop. You can take a bus to Pingjiang Road and Guanqian Street to continue your nightlife.
We took the Gusu River Cruise and passed by Panmen. The Kingdom of Women in Journey to the West was filmed here.
Let me tell you the story first: Panmen is unique in that it is the only existing city gate in China that combines both land and water, and it was built according to local conditions.
Suggestions: ① There are not many people in Panmen, you can take the nearby tour guide to listen to the story. There is a tower that costs 6 yuan extra, it is recommended to pay extra to go up, its stairs are very interesting, the view from the top is also good, it is worth a visit.
② There is a Shuicheng Tanyou Pier next to Wu Xiang Temple. You can take a rowing boat for free with your ticket. The rowing lady will sing for you. You can give her a tip of 5 or 10 yuan. It feels great to pass through the boat hole. Since this is a free item, no one will tell you about it.
③When we went there, it was the Panmen Wind Chime Festival. There were wind chimes everywhere, which was very pleasant to listen to.
Panmen was first built in the Spring and Autumn Period. It is one of the eight city gates of Suzhou City, and it is located at the intersection of the Grand Canal and the Longjiang River. It was originally called "Panmen", but later changed to "Panmen" because of the winding water and land. Panmen is the only remaining ancient city gate relic in Suzhou. The current city wall was built in 1351 AD and was later repaired in the Ming and Qing dynasties.
The water and land gates of Panmen are unique in China. The two land gates have inner and outer layers, and the two gates form a city wall, which is easy to defend but difficult to attack. It is a valuable material for studying the ancient fortifications of my country and a castle building suitable for the southern water town. Ruiguang Pagoda was built in the first year of Jingde of Emperor Zhenzong of the Northern Song Dynasty. The tower is 53.57 meters high, the tower top is 9.14 meters high, and it has seven levels and eight sides. It is a brick and wood structure. There are also Wu Xiang Temple and the release pond in the scenic area. It also built a pond and three mountains, planted trees and grass, and carefully built Lijing Tower, Shuangting Corridor Bridge, Shuilian Cave and other attractions.
Panmen is located in the southwest corner of Suzhou Old Town. It has the long-renowned Ruiguang Ancient Pagoda, the unique water and land city gate, and the world-renowned Wumen Ancient Bridge, which are national and provincial cultural relics protection units. Panmen has the traditional classical garden "one pond and three mountains" pattern, with the central courtyard and ancient buildings, water town style, mountain pool pavilions, lake and mountain shadows, which are majestic, spacious and grand. Panmen Scenic Area not only retains the ancient and vicissitudes of Suzhou's history, but also has a bold and bright modern atmosphere, allowing tourists to feel the profound heritage of Suzhou's Dongwu culture and history at all times during leisure.
The highlight is the orderly door 123456789
Panmen is more like a big park, with all kinds of people doing morning exercises... The water and land gates look very grand, and Wu Zixu looks so cool!
Entering Panmen is Ruiguang Temple. I don't think there is anything interesting in this area. I think the most worthwhile thing in the entire Panmen scenic area is to take a boat to see the Water City Gate. It is really great.
Panmen was designed and built by Wu Zixu, a minister of the State of Wu. It is the gate of Suzhou City. The ruins are well preserved and full of charm. The park is large, quiet and leisurely. It coincides with the Wind Chime Festival, which is a special experience. We also took a rowing boat, and the lady who was holding the pole sang Suzhou folk songs. "There are not many people who can sing this now," the lady said proudly.
Panmen is the ancient Panmen. Although it is not the original building, the existing Panmen and city wall have a history of more than 600 years and are definitely worth a visit. The surrounding gardens are also very beautiful. There are few people, so it is a good place to relax.
I went to Panmen on the weekend and entered with the Suzhou Citizen Card. The first thing I saw was the Ruiguang Pagoda Praise Monument. The ancient monument is a relic of the Ming Dynasty. In front of it is the Ruiguang Pagoda. I checked before I came that this is one of the three scenic spots in Panmen. There are not many tourists. I walked around the tower and decided to go up the tower. The fee is six yuan. The stairs in the tower are very narrow and steep, and you have to be careful not to bump your head. You can see the scenery outside the tower on the second and third floors. Going up is unsafe because the railings are too low, so you can't go to the outside of each floor to climb and look far. The wind chime festival was held in the scenic area, and many windmill wind chimes were hung, which was fresh and lively. Opposite the Ruiguang Pagoda is the Lijing Tower, which is inscribed with "Heroic Three Wus", which is very domineering. There are thousand-year-old stone commemorating the merits of Wu Zixu in the scenic area, as well as the Wu Xiang Temple. There is a water curtain cave, which is very beautiful. I met two families with babies and asked me to help take pictures. Panmen Scenic Area is also a park. It has just rained, and the flowers are very beautiful, especially the pomegranate flowers, which are still covered with dew. What I wanted to see most was of course the water and land gates. The gates were covered with ivy. I learned a lot by seeing the introductions to the water gate, land gate, and 瓮城. The general's platform on the city gate was majestic, but like many scenic spots in Suzhou, they opened shops for taking photos in ancient costumes, but you were not allowed to take photos without making a purchase.
There are not many people, and the scenery is great. Suzhou is a place that gives people a comfortable and enjoyable time. It is best to go there in the evening to feel the sunset. The water area is quite large, with many goldfish. There is nothing special about it. It mainly looks like Wu Zixu, but I don’t know much about him! If you travel far from other places, it is not suitable to come here. You should go to Shantang, Humble Administrator’s Garden, Pingjiang Road... Suzhou Park to see the haunted house
It is known as the only existing water and land city gate in China. It is a place with a strong cultural atmosphere and is worth visiting.
I was going to the Humble Administrator's Garden, but because of the heavy rain and traffic jam, I came here temporarily. I heard that every garden is actually similar. It is not the lotus season now, so I don't have too many regrets. The scenery of Panmen is much better than I expected. Walking in the garden in the misty rain, you can imagine the comfortable life of people in ancient times. Write poems, listen to songs, and appreciate flowers. Get away from the bustling city and enjoy the rhythm of the holiday.
Panmen has nice scenery, somewhere between a garden and a park, and is worth a visit.
Panmen Scenic Area is mainly famous for its water and land gates, and I have to admit shamelessly that I didn't find it in the end. This is a place where tour groups gather, so it's inevitable that I feel a little disgusted. I don't know when it started, but I like to go to places where there are no people. For example, everyone goes to the Confucius Temple when they go to Qufu, but I just like the Yan Temple. It's so magical.
The first thing you see when you enter the door is a tower. I don't remember what it's called. Anyway, it's pretty nice. Towers are highly symmetrical in structure, which is really good news for someone like me who has advanced obsessive-compulsive disorder. So when taking photos, you must be in the middle, symmetrical on both sides, and you will feel comfortable.
Although I didn't find the water and land gate, I really like the flowers here. There are white and pink ones, and there are white and pink grafted ones. Even a rough guy like me feels like I'm going to turn into a fairy among the flowers and fly (why do I find this sentence so weird? I felt a chill immediately after typing it).
I think these pretty little flowers would be perfect if I weren't allergic to pollen.
Panmen is a place with all kinds of strange flowers, green grass, small puddles, classical houses and towers. Well, that's the rough description.
Panmen Scenic Area can be said to be a relatively niche attraction in Suzhou City! It is not as crowded as the Humble Administrator's Garden, it does not have the beautiful scenery of Jinji Lake, it does not have the rockery of Lion Grove, and there are only ancient city walls! It was raining when I went there, and I had to hide in the corridor of Panmen in the heavy rain, and watched the people next to me writing the "Diamond Sutra" on the ground with water! Soon the rain stopped, and I went to see the ancient city wall of Panmen! It doesn't feel as magnificent as the city wall of Xi'an, but it is still very ancient. The wall is covered with ivy. This place has also experienced many battles! Looking up from the inner city, you can taste the smoke of history in the patio! There is also the ancestral hall of Wu Zixu near the city wall, which can also be seen!
The first recommendation when visiting Panmen Scenic Area is: Go up to Ruiguang Pagoda to overlook Panmen Scenic Area; the second recommendation is: Go to the water gate to find the place where the boat stops, and you can take a rowboat for free to visit the water gate with a ticket. The enthusiastic boat girl sang a Jiangnan tune for us while rowing the boat. The melodious singing could be heard from far away, attracting passing tourists.
I like this attraction very much. It is very pleasing to the eyes. I can't reach the top of the tower. I lost money in vain. I didn't see anything when I went up.
The scenic area is far from the main road, and you need to walk a distance after getting off the bus. Wumen Bridge is not in the scenic area. Outside the scenic area is the Citizen Leisure Park, which is nice to walk around.
Panmen is located in the southwest corner of the ancient city of Suzhou. It was built in the first year of Helu of the Wu Kingdom in the Spring and Autumn Period (514 BC) and is one of the eight city gates of Suzhou City built by Wu Zixu. The uniqueness of Panmen is that it is the only existing water and land parallel city gate in the country. It was built according to local conditions due to the extensive water network in Suzhou. In addition to Panmen, there are also Wumen Bridge and Ruiguang Pagoda worth seeing in the Panmen Scenic Area, which are collectively known as the "Three Scenic Spots of Panmen".
