Qiandeng Ancient Town has a history of more than 2,500 years. The ancient town has white walls and black tiles, full of Kunqu charm.
The ancient town still preserves buildings from the Ming, Qing and Republic of China periods, and still retains the ancient style of "water and land running side by side" and "river and street adjacent to each other".
This is the birthplace of Kunqu Opera and Jiangnan Sizhu Opera, the hometown of Gu Yanwu, and the birthplace of Tao Yuanming's ninth-generation descendant Tao Xian.

Qiandeng Ancient Town is located in the Yangtze River Delta, under the jurisdiction of Kunshan City, Jiangsu Province, 35 kilometers away from the center of Suzhou. It has a history of more than 2,500 years. It is the hometown of the patriotic scholar Gu Yanwu and the birthplace of Kunqu Opera. Qiandeng was originally named "Qiandun", which was named after the Wu-Yue hegemony.
There are seven arched dragon-shaped stone bridges built in the Ming and Qing Dynasties in Qiandeng Ancient Town, spanning the Qiandengpu River in the town. Important attractions include Gu Yanwu's former residence, Gu Yanwu's tomb, the thousand-year-old tower-Qinfeng Tower, and Gu Jian Memorial Hall.
When I first came to Qiandeng and saw the streets full of Henan stewed noodles and Huainan beef soup, I instantly realized that this was just a small town with a large number of migrant workers. As long as the factories were still working, the place would be dead silent.
This is my second time in Qiandeng. I took a leisurely stroll in the night of Qiandeng Ancient Town. The image of Qiandeng as a place with only factories has collapsed in my mind. Qiandeng in the daytime looks like an ordinary town in the south of the Yangtze River with factories everywhere. There are many factories, and with the migrant workers from all over the country, there are also many restaurants with delicious dishes.
So it is no wonder that people always ignore Qiandeng Ancient Town. In fact, this non-famous water town also has a long history. Compared with Zhouzhuang, which is crowded with people and bright lights, this place can better experience what life in the Jiangnan water town is like.
Qiandeng Ancient Town is located in the south of Kunshan, and was originally called Qiandun. This ancient town is not very big, but it has many scenic spots and historical sites, including the Stone Street, Yanfu Temple, Qinfeng Tower, Gu Garden, etc.
A very nice ancient town, not so well-known, so it is relatively quiet.
I accompanied my mother to Kunshan for work, and visited Qiandeng Ancient Town, ate Aozao noodles, listened to Shanghai opera, Suzhou Pingtan, Kunshan Kunqu Opera, walked on the long bluestone slabs, and visited Gu Yanwu's big house and back garden. Next time I go, I must remember not to buy tickets.
The crisscrossing streets meander along the river, and the narrow alleys are only wide enough for two people to pass by each other. Although the commercial ecology on the street is mainly to serve tourists, it has not completely broken away from the strong local atmosphere. There are enough things to see inside to keep you stopping and watching for a whole day.
Qiandeng Ancient Town is not very well-known. It is much less famous than Tongli, Wuzhen, Zhouzhuang, Xitang and other ancient towns. It is even not as famous as Luzhi Ancient Town which is not far away. I have been there before. Although the ancient town is not big, it is very charming. I went there again on New Year's Day this year and found that it has changed a lot after not being there for a few years. The ancient town is still the same, but the surrounding commercial development is chaotic and I have no interest in visiting it. A beautiful ancient town in the south of the Yangtze River has disappeared again. I am disappointed.
Very good, it is not developed enough, so it is very good!
Qiandeng Ancient Town is not big, there are only two bridges, the water in the river is turbid and smells bad. Although it is free, I still think it is not worth visiting. Luzhi Ancient Town is also free, which is much better than Qiandeng.
It's still a good ancient town, worth a visit. I took a general walk around it.
A belated travelogue, on January 7, I traveled with the rain the day before the cold wave came, it was quiet and unique
The scenery is beautiful. If you have time, you can listen to a piece of Kunqu opera, which is very charming.
On October 25, 2017, I was on business in Kunshan. A friend mentioned that there was Qiandeng Ancient Town nearby, so I went there on an impromptu basis after finishing my business.
Since it has not been overdeveloped, Qiandeng is still in a living state. It takes a long walk from the parking lot in the southwest corner of the town to the ticket office of the East Gate Archway. I wonder why there is no ticket selling point near the parking lot. It is probably because there are not many people coming. And this ticket is only for entering various scenic spots. If you don’t enter the scenic spots, you can walk around the ancient town at will.
After passing Shangshupu, you can visit the Xu Fu Memorial Hall (which houses Qinwang Mountain), Yu’s Pawn Shop, Yanchanfu Temple (including Qinfeng Tower) and Gu Jian Memorial Hall in the north of the town along the ancient stone street, and then go to the south of the town to pay homage to Gu Yanwu’s former residence.
The ancient town is not very big, and there are not many tourists. The surface of the river reflects the pink walls and black tiles of the neighboring banks, and ripples in the wind. The residents are leisurely cracking melon seeds and chatting; then at Gu Yanwu's former residence, we were told to get off work at 4:30. It seems that people here still take care of their families as the most important thing. I wanted to complain at the time, but looking back later, I think that this is how life should be.
After three days here, we finally went to Qiandeng Ancient Town this morning. Because it was National Day, there were a lot of people. We went to Gu Yanwu's former residence and walked around for a long time. Feel the patriotic sentiment that every man has a share of responsibility for the rise and fall of the country.
It is a very small ancient town. If you don't visit the exhibition hall, you don't need to buy tickets for the ancient town. There is no ticket gate, so you can walk around quickly.
I went there with my parents. Although it is not as big as Zhouzhuang, there are fewer people and the air is better. When we were on the boat, I felt like the whole lake belonged to us.
I went there during the Spring Festival. There were a lot of people, probably from Jiangsu, Zhejiang and Shanghai on a day trip. I couldn't even find a seat for lunch.
But in general, it still retains the scenery of small bridges and flowing water and the bustle of a market. If you have enough time, slowly following the flow of people to eat and eat is a good way to kill time.
The style is great~ I like this ancient town very much~ It is not particularly commercialized~ It is very elegant~ I like it
As a man from Northeast China, I came to Suzhou for the first time. I had heard of the word "ancient town" a long time ago. My first stop was Qiandeng Ancient Town. Qiandeng, a historical and cultural ancient town, is 2,500 years old. It is the birthplace of Kunqu Opera and the hometown of Gu Yanwu in the late Ming and early Qing dynasties. The famous saying "Every man has his share of responsibility for the rise and fall of the world" has always influenced us. Qiandeng is indeed an ancient town. Stone bridges, stone streets, ancient towers, and temples have become a beautiful landscape. A real small bridge, flowing water, and people. After that, I went to Zhouzhuang. Through the comparison between the two, Qiandeng does not have the commercial atmosphere of Zhouzhuang. It has maintained its intact and simple style. Its humanities and history are more worthy of every tourist's careful taste. Qiandeng Ancient Town does not require tickets to enter. If you want to enter the classics, it is best to buy a 60-yuan ticket and a student ticket of 30. If you do not enter the scenic spot, you do not need to buy a ticket. This ancient town is not as big as Zhouzhuang. If you visit it in half a day, you can visit it all. The important thing about the ancient town is to experience its simple atmosphere. You can walk slowly and watch slowly. Shiban Street is the only commercial street with various snacks and specialties. The most famous snacks in Zhouzhuang and Qiandeng are Wansan Pig's Trotter and Aozao Noodles. There is no need to go to a restaurant here because it is expensive and you can't appreciate how delicious the food is. It is enough to fill your stomach while eating snacks and walking around.
A buy-one-get-one-free place when visiting Jinxi. I didn't expect the photos I took to be quite stunning. But if you only see the photos and think that this place is as beautiful as the photos, then you may regret it, because Qiandeng may not have such a good tourism development compared to Jinxi. The houses on the river bank are relatively dilapidated. Qiandeng is very small, and the tour will not take more than 1.5 hours, including the time of taking the boat. But the people are really simple, and the uncle who rowed the boat was very happy to chat with us. I hope Qiandeng can develop better and better.
It is a beautiful place for taking photos, but the planning needs to be improved. The most beautiful scenery should be on both sides of the river. If it is slightly renovated, it should be more beautiful. It is a buy one get one free tour with Jinxi.
There are too many introductions about Qiandeng on the Internet. I usually only remember the most important points:
The first is the origin of the name Qiandeng. It is said that the thousandth earthen mound on the bank of Wusong River was here, but it is unknown when the word "mound" became "deng".
The second is the Yanfu Temple, which can prove Qiandeng’s origin. It is said to have been built in 503 AD. This means that Qiandeng Ancient Town has a history of more than 1,500 years, which is indeed quite ancient.
Third, there is a statue of the largest jade reclining Buddha listed in the Guinness Book of World Records, which is treasured in Yanfu Temple.
In addition, Qiandeng is the birthplace of Kunqu Opera, and the founder of Kunqu Opera, Gu Jian, was born here.
I went there when my baby was 8 months old.. Full of memories
A very nice old town with small bridges and flowing water. It feels even better in the morning.
Very good, very good, very good, I like it very much, the scenic spot is small and the scenery is good
A good place, worth a visit, you can also experience Kunqu Opera
Qiandeng Ancient Town is located between Suzhou and Shanghai. It is a distinctive ancient town in the south of the Yangtze River. The ancient town is not big, but the scenery is quite beautiful.
It's OK, but the place is too small. Not very enjoyable.
Qiandeng Town belongs to Kunshan City, 35 kilometers away from the center of Suzhou City. It has a history of more than 2,500 years. It is the hometown of the famous patriotic scholar Gu Yanwu and the birthplace of Kunqu Opera. Qiandeng was originally named "Qiandun" and was named after the Wu-Yue hegemony. Qiandeng is located in the Yangtze River Delta and belongs to Kunshan City, Jiangsu Province. It covers an area of 84 square kilometers and has a population of 120,000, including 50,000 locals and 70,000 migrants. It is 15 kilometers south of Kunshan City. It is connected to Qingpu District, Shanghai in the east and 30 kilometers away from Shanghai Hongqiao Airport. Public transportation: A. Take bus No. 107 or 2 from Kunshan Railway Station to the bus station and transfer to the minibus to Qiandeng. (You can choose Kunshan→Qingpu, Kunshan→Dianshan Lake, Kunshan→Shipu). B. Take a bus from Qingpu to Qiandeng Town. If you want to visit attractions such as Gu Yanwu's former residence, you need to buy a joint ticket for 60 yuan, which can be cheaper online. If you walk around the ancient town, you don't need to buy a ticket. The public toilets and other environmental sanitation in the ancient town need to be improved and perfected.
A very distinctive point, representing the inherent structure of the Jiangnan water town. Every family has a river in front of them, and they live by the river.
The simplicity of Qiandeng is incomparable to Zhouzhuang and Jinxi. The grandmas and grandpas here still live the lifestyle of the older generation. The simple and pure lifestyle is something people yearn for!
Qiandeng is very suitable to go on ordinary days, and you must avoid holidays when there are many tourists. The reason is that the streets and rivers of Qiandeng Ancient Town are very narrow. If you walk alone, it is a rare mood; if you walk with a group of people, it is crowded and tiring.
It is precisely because of these winding and narrow roads and rivers that Qiandeng has a strong characteristic among the ancient towns, and it is actually worth a visit. As for the things sold in the town, they are exactly the same as those in all the ancient towns in Jiangnan.
The streets of the ancient town are free to visit, and only a few attractions require a combined ticket, which costs 60 yuan, which is not cheap, and the discounts on the Internet are not very big. Among the combined ticket attractions, the Thousand Lanterns Pavilion is the most exciting.
Qiandeng Town is the hometown of printed circuit boards in China, so you don't have to expect too much from the cleanliness of the river and the environment. However, the natural environment is definitely not bad, but some of the hardware in the scenic spot, such as the restrooms, are in really bad condition.
Maybe it's because of the cold weather, there are fewer people, it's quieter, with small bridges and flowing water, and the scenery of the Jiangnan water village. It's nice to stroll around in the afternoon.
In general, it's pretty good, with bluestone roads, small bridges, flowing water and houses. It's really a good place. Although it's not as well-planned as other ancient towns in Suzhou, it's still pretty authentic. Many people take photos, and the stinky tofu is delicious.
It is 35 kilometers away from the center of Suzhou and is under the jurisdiction of Kunshan City. It is located at Suzhou Railway Station and can be reached by car or train. However, the train goes directly to Kunshan City, and the bus also goes to the ancient town.
It takes about 40 minutes to drive from downtown Kunshan. Whether you go there on weekends or holidays, there are many people visiting. The ancient town is too commercialized now, and there is nothing to see. You can take some dried radish and fried edamame back to eat, which tastes good. I personally think that Zhouzhuang's socks are more delicious, and the more famous one is Jinxi's socks. It depends on your taste. 😄
Qiandeng Ancient Town
Written in front:
Find a reason to travel to Qiandeng Ancient Town
It’s not necessarily to escape from the hustle and bustle of the city, Qiandeng Street is also very noisy, strange!
Then escape from the restlessness and depression for a short time and relax your nerves
Find a strange place
Daydreaming
Take a walk and kill some time
Find a beautiful view, take photos and keep them as a memory for a lifetime
Or a delicious dish to satisfy my appetite and comfort my good friend - the oral cavity
Enjoy some undisturbed time
Qiandeng Town is located in the alluvial plain of the Yangtze River Delta, 15 kilometers south of Kunshan City. It is adjacent to Qingpu District of Shanghai in the east and 30 kilometers away from Shanghai Hongqiao Airport.
I have always heard people talk about Qiandeng Ancient Town, which is not far from Shanghai. With a senior citizen card, you can ride all the way to Qiandeng Ancient Town for free. I have long wanted to go to Qiandeng Ancient Town to find out what it is like. During the long holiday in October 2015, I made an appointment with three good friends to go to Qiandeng Ancient Town together. My wish finally came true during the long holiday in October 2015.
Qiandeng is indeed an ancient town. Stone bridges, flagstone streets, ancient towers and ancient temples form a beautiful landscape with Jiangnan characteristics. It has retained its ancient style and its cultural history is worthy of every tourist's careful appreciation.
Transportation: I live in Pudong. You have to take Metro Line 6 first, then transfer to Line 2, get off at Jiangsu Road Station, then transfer to Metro Line 11, get off at Huaqiao Station, walk to Huaqiao Bus Station and take Kunshan No. 253, get off at Qiandeng Station, get off and walk a short distance to the entrance of Qiandeng Ancient Town.
There is no ticket window at the entrance of Qiandeng Ancient Town, but some attractions inside charge a fee. The combined ticket is 60 yuan, and you can also buy tickets separately. The prices are different. If you want to see all the attractions, the combined ticket is cheaper. If you don't visit these attractions, don't buy the combined ticket. You don't need to pay for admission to the ancient town.
This ancient town is very small, and it only takes a few minutes to walk around. There are no scenic spots to take pictures, and there are too many people. The most popular place is the stone street, which is also a major commercial street. Qiandeng does not seem to have any special local products. The most famous one is Wanshan pig's trotter, which tastes good and is quite popular. There are also some traditional snacks, such as fried shrimp flower cakes, glutinous rice cakes, and Qiandeng meat dumplings, which are very special, delicious, and very popular.
The Wanshan Trotters from Qiandeng Ancient Town are fried and stewed. They are fat but not greasy, and leave a lingering fragrance in your mouth. You can definitely buy two and bring them home so that your family can also taste the delicious Wanshan Trotters from Qiandeng.
This time when I came to Qiandeng, I didn’t go into the restaurant to order food. Instead, I ate Qiandeng’s delicious snacks while walking around. For example, fried shrimp flower cakes, glutinous rice cakes, and Qiandeng meat dumplings are very special, delicious, and save money and time. I can use the money I saved to buy two Wanshan pigs and bring them home to reward my family. It’s really killing two birds with one stone.
The day's tour was very successful. At 16:00, I rushed to the bus station to take Kunshan Bus No. 253 and started my journey back to Shanghai. Dear Qiandeng Ancient Town, thank you for giving me a pleasant day. I will come again next time if I have the chance. Goodbye!
I have a good impression of the tower, but the rest are just so-so. Zhouzhuang has taken away the popularity. These towns don't have that many people.
Qiandeng Ancient Town is the birthplace of Kunqu Opera, and it is full of cultural atmosphere! It is antique and I personally think it is better than Zhouzhuang!
I always go shopping when I have nothing to do. The double skin milk is good. I often go shopping and eat it.
The ancient town is not big, but the content is OK and it is fun to play there. You can take a look.
The scenic area is small and can be visited in one or two hours. The transportation is not very convenient and you have to take a bus from the city, which takes a long time to get there.
I may have seen too many ancient towns, so I really don't have much feeling about them. But I am very interested in the Kunqu Opera there.
To be honest, I was a little disappointed. I thought it would be a very quiet town, but after arriving here, I felt like I was in the urban-rural junction. It was very chaotic. The ancient town didn't feel like an ancient town at all. It was full of people. It felt a little overdeveloped and very chaotic. I felt that only the former residence of Gu Yanwu was better.
The place is small and you can finish the tour in a short while. The items sold inside are all low-end and worthless. I think the stinky tofu here is quite delicious. The house is indeed old and not much repaired.
Luzhi is not very big as a whole, and is not as famous as Zhouzhuang and Wuzhen, but that is precisely why it is so quiet and makes people linger. In the evening, I find a teahouse, hold a cup of not-so-good tea, sit on a bench, close my eyes, and listen to the Wuzhong people rowing and singing songs that I can't understand. The moonlight shines on the boat, and the small bridge and flowing water are no match for the people there.
Gu Yanwu's hometown is not very big, with only one main old street, stone bridges, flowing water, and a typical Jiangnan water town.
Qiandeng is the ancient town with the most incense and silk songs among the nine towns. It is basically a fully open ancient town.
Qiandeng is a place where people can find comfort. If you want to improve your artistic talent, go to Qiandeng.
The old streets of the ancient town are open to the public free of charge, except for the Yanfu Temple. Tickets are required for Gu Garden and several old houses, which can be purchased at the entrance.
Very quiet, without the overdevelopment of Wuzhen, without the bustle of Xitang's nightlife, just lying there quietly
Kunshan - Qiandeng Ancient Town is a historical and cultural ancient town with a history of 2,500 years. It is the hometown of Mr. Gu Yanwu in the late Ming and early Qing dynasties. His famous saying "Every man has his share of responsibility for the rise and fall of his country" has always inspired countless people of lofty ideals in the world.
Qiandeng Town belongs to Kunshan City, Jiangsu Province. It has a history of more than 2,500 years. It is the hometown of the famous patriotic scholar Gu Yanwu and the birthplace of Kunqu Opera.
Qiandeng Ancient Town is a famous historical and cultural town with a history of 2,500 years. It is the hometown of Mr. Gu Yanwu, an outstanding thinker, writer and patriotic scholar in the late Ming and early Qing dynasties. The ancient town is rich in natural resources and humanities, and is known as the "Golden Thousand Lights". As early as the Neolithic Age, the Xian clan had lived and multiplied here, creating a splendid prehistoric civilization. It is beautiful, rich, ancient and full of vitality. It still retains the chessboard pattern of "parallel water and land" and "river and street adjacent" and the simple style of "small bridges, flowing water and people's houses".
Come to Qiandeng, a temple, a tower, and a stone street
The thousand lights in my eyes, let you see step by step
Qiandeng, like a girl from the south of the Yangtze River, stands on the bridge with an umbrella and looks back in the misty rain...
In fact, Qiandeng was formerly known as Qiandun. According to Songnan Chronicle written by Chen Yuanmo in the Qing Dynasty, there is a river called Qiandunpu in Sanjiachuan Township, 36 miles southeast of Kunshan City. Songjiang River flows east from Wumen to here. All the places with duns and Qians on the north and south of the river were renamed Qiandun. In the second year of the Xuantong reign of the Qing Dynasty (1910), a kind of grass grew on the mounds in the area: "The roots can be used as red dye, and can also be used as medicine. This grass is called 'Rubia'." Therefore, "Qiandun" was renamed "Rubia".
The birthplace of Kunqu Opera, with the style of an ancient town in the south of the Yangtze River, small bridges, flowing water, and people’s homes. . . . . .
To be honest, Qiandeng Ancient Town is indeed very ordinary compared with other ancient towns in the south of the Yangtze River, with ordinary rural buildings, but it is famous as the birthplace of Kunqu Opera.
Qiandeng Ancient Town is not big, probably the smallest among the ancient towns nearby, but I feel it is also the most primitive. The narrow stone road and the old houses on both sides exude a gray and ancient atmosphere. The pedestrians walking on the road are walking leisurely, without the hustle and bustle of the city.
Qiandeng Ancient Town in Kunshan, Jiangsu, has a history of more than 2,500 years. It is the hometown of the famous patriotic scholar Gu Yanwu and the birthplace of Kunqu Opera.
After seeing too many small towns in the south of the Yangtze River, I always like to compare these places to women, gorgeous like Huadan, graceful like Qingyi... Qiandeng is like an old man in the ancient Kunqu Opera, and there is always an unshakable simplicity and vicissitudes in the tone. On the way back, there is always a voice ringing in my ears, seemingly not the beauty, seemingly black hair but not the beauty, like red but white back, a warm memory of the old times...
Qiandeng was originally named "Qiandun", which was named after the 1,000th beacon tower during the Wu-Yue hegemony period. The ancient town is rich in natural resources and humanities, and is known as the "Golden Thousand Lights". It is a famous historical and cultural town in China.
Stroll along the stone streets, listen to Kunqu opera, tour Gu Yanwu's former residence, and admire the Qinfeng Ancient Pagoda from afar, and appreciate the profound historical and cultural connotations of the quaint style of the Jiangnan water town.

Unlike ordinary Jiangnan water towns, the scenic area here is small. In terms of "water town" scenery alone, it cannot be compared with Zhouzhuang or Wuzhen. Except for the Qinfeng Tower and two bridges when entering the scenic area, there is nothing outstanding. However, if you are interested in calligraphy, or want to see some social changes in the scenic area, this place is really worth a visit.
Qiandeng - Jiangnan Ancient Town, National 4A Scenic Spot
If you just want to stroll around the ancient street, you don’t need to buy a ticket.
Qiandeng was formerly known as Qiandun. In the second year of the Xuantong reign of the Qing Dynasty (1910), it was renamed Qiandun. There are two legends about its origin: one is that it was an elegant name given by literati; the other is that it was because the mound was covered with madder.
It is said that the ancient towns in the south of the Yangtze River are similar, with white walls and black tiles, narrow stone alleys, small bridges and flowing water, and people living by the water. But if the local cultural history is injected into this similarity, it will be very different, and the unique charm of each ancient town will become vivid.
The ancient town is similar to other ancient towns in the south of the Yangtze River, with small bridges, flowing water and houses. But it is not crowded and the prices are lower than other ancient towns.
Qiandun was renamed Qiandeng, probably after the end of the war, because there is no longer any trace of war in the new name, but on the contrary it carries a strong cultural atmosphere. Perhaps a poet who passed by was attracted by the night view here, and changed his pen, leaving behind a hint of romance, making this sky bright and warm from then on.
The ancient towns in my mind are always less peaceful and more noisy; less quaint and more commercial. . . . . .
The historic town has a strong classical charm of the Jiangnan water town. It is simple and comfortable. Wandering in the alleys, strolling, the mood can't help but be peaceful. I really enjoy this feeling! Especially accompanied by the drizzle or the downpour, walking through the town with an umbrella, it is even more charming!
We visited every scene along the way, and they were all very ordinary in layout, and most of them had nothing to say about them.
The autumn wind was howling and the mist was hazy. The first step into the ancient town gave me a sense of time and space confusion. A group of tourists dressed in Ming and Qing Dynasty costumes shuttled between small bridges and flowing water, white walls and black tiles, as if they were in the Ming and Qing Dynasties. After crossing the first stone arch bridge, I saw the statues of the male and female protagonists of Kunqu Opera "Peony Pavilion". This is the birthplace of Kunqu Opera.
This is Gu Yanwu's hometown
The Rise and Fall of the World
Every man has a responsibility
His famous saying
Qiandeng is his birthplace.
The former residence and its cemetery are still preserved.
The town also has Yanfu Zen Temple and its Qinfeng Ancient Pagoda.
Small bridges, flowing water, and houses along with ancient temples are the business cards of Qiandeng Tourism.
It had a lively scene.
There was also desolation after the decline
The ancient town still retains buildings from the Ming and Qing Dynasties and the Republic of China.
Silently telling the world and people about their experiences
And the indelible traces left behind
The cobblestone streets are still the same as they were hundreds of years ago.
The houses with blue brick and tile roofs are connected into a large area
Appears long and deep
Only compared with other ancient towns
Thousands of lights will be less noisy and flashy
A more peaceful and far-reaching feeling
