The first stop in Suzhou is Tongli Ancient Town, which is not as famous as Zhouzhuang. However, when we went there, a TV show was just broadcasted in Tongli.

Tongli Ancient Town is a world heritage site, located on the shore of Taihu Lake. It has a history of more than 1,000 years since it was built in the Song Dynasty. Tongli was originally called Futu, but in the early Tang Dynasty, it was renamed Tongli because its name was too ostentatious. Tongli's Tuisi Garden has the characteristics of Jiangnan gardens. There are large-scale typical Jiangnan gardens in the ancient town, which is unique. If you are used to the prosperity of modern cities, you may want to visit the ancient towns in Jiangnan. Although there are no ancient roads, west winds, and thin horses here, there are small bridges, flowing water, and people's homes.

You have to buy a 100 yuan ticket before the end of the working day. Tongli is more lifelike, locals can come and go at will, and the staff will check if you stand at the door all the time. We can only look from a distance but cannot go in, which is very frustrating.

We had to find the way outside, but after trying several times, we still couldn't get in. We waited for a long time at the bus station. The waiting time always seemed so long. Finally, when it was time to get off work, we only spent 20 minutes to visit the whole Tongli....Oh my god! It's so small! This is the least worthwhile 100 yuan ticket.

I don't know when it started, but ancient towns have all started to follow the trend of Internet celebrities. Postcards, cats, and various seemingly creative small objects, accompanied by love words, or old objects, constitute the check-in points of one ancient town after another. I must be getting old, why can't I appreciate it? Fortunately, these small stalls and shops that are famous in these ancient towns are still there.

Tongli is different from Wuzhen. Wuzhen is built for tourists, with scenic spots built around the ancient town, so Wuzhen is relatively small and has a relatively unified management. Tongli is very large, it is a real ancient town, and the accommodation is not uniformly managed.

Tongli still has a stage facing the street, which is indeed a good way to quickly bring the ancient town into an ancient state. Although I don’t understand what the other party is singing, it is still interesting to listen to the first part along with the humming.

Here I also met a talkative tour guide and listened to him explain the various rules of planting trees in front of the door.

Here, the river and the boat are part of life, and even the elderly are used to washing clothes in the river.

There are various former residences and exhibition halls on both sides of the street. All of them require a ticket, but you only need to enter once. There are also stamps inside, which can be printed on the map of Tongli.

Metro Line 4 can directly reach Tongli. Tongli is a medium-sized town among the towns in the south of the Yangtze River. Entering the ancient town through the north gate, the artistic conception of small bridges, flowing water and people's homes unfolds in front of you. Every house is by the water, and every house has a boat, which constitutes the characteristic scenery of small bridges and flowing water. It is said that it is one of the six well-preserved ancient towns in the south of the Yangtze River. Although it is an ancient town, modern cafes can be found everywhere, keeping pace with the times. Tongli is also a photography base for filming TV. The most famous in Tongli is the Retreat and Reflection Garden. Many places in the ancient town sell pepper and salt cakes. Tongli also has a famous women's school, but unfortunately the current girls' school has been converted into a hotel. We can only watch from the outside but cannot enter. Tongli also has many scenic spots that are very tasteful. If you want to choose an ancient town in the south of the Yangtze River to play, Tongli is really the best place!

Tongli is located in the blessed land of Jiangnan, with favorable weather and developed water and land resources. It was already very rich during the Sui and Tang Dynasties, and its name at that time was "Futu".

The problem is that such an arrogant public oath does not seem to be in line with the Chinese cultural mentality of hiding wealth, and it is also likely to attract attention.

More importantly, the rich people do not want to be too rich, because going too far means going downhill.

In the Song Dynasty, the name "Fu Tu" was quietly modified by deleting the "dot" on the top of the character "Fu" that liked to show off, and then burying the lower part of the character "Tian" in the character "Tu" at the back, so that "Fu Tu" became "Tongli".

From being worthy of the name to being “belying” the reality, it has become much more low-key and more elegant.

Tickets are required to enter and exit Tongli Ancient Town.

The ticket can be used to visit the small attractions inside. These small attractions are small gardens and private houses. If you have just finished visiting Suzhou Gardens, it is recommended that you do not visit these small attractions (you will easily get aesthetic fatigue if you see them too much) and there is no need to buy tickets.

Like many ancient towns in China, there is no ticket checking when entering or leaving the gate in the morning or evening.

So if you don’t want to buy tickets, just choose to enter and exit in the morning or evening.

There is public transportation from Suzhou to Tongli (subway + bus). You can navigate the specific route yourself.

There are three night views in Tongli:

There is a garden show in Tuisi Garden that uses MR virtual reality, 3D dynamic effects, etc. It charges a fee, but I didn't go.

The second is the night view of the ancient town centered on the Three Bridges. There will be spray from time to time at night. My personal feeling is just average, and the spray does not add color to the night view.

The last one is the wall next to the Rize Girls' School. There is a light show on the wall. It is really super dreamy!!!

The yellow areas on the map are small attractions that require tickets, among which Tuisi Garden, Gengle Hall, and Jiayin Hall are relatively good.

Since we are in Suzhou, it seems unreasonable not to visit the ancient towns. The surrounding ancient towns include Luzhi, Zhouzhuang, Tongli, etc. Finally, we chose Tongli. It cost 82 yuan to take a taxi from Suzhou Gusu District, and it took more than 30 minutes to reach Tongli Ancient Town.

.

The ancient town was supposed to receive 90,000 visitors a day, but when we arrived, there were less than 1,000 people. This damn epidemic has dealt a heavy blow to the tourism industry that cannot be measured in words.

.

The shops in the ancient town are all open, but most of them are deserted because there are few customers. It's a pity for the bluestone road and the beautiful scenery of the small bridge and flowing water, but having said that, the experience of the scenic spot without people is really much better! !

.

It’s so comfortable to find a stylish cafe and sit down.

.

TIPS: 1. Buy tickets online in advance, 50% off at 50 yuan per adult, show the Suzhou code at the entrance, and scan the ticket QR code or ID card to enter.

2. Recommended playing time: 2-3 hours.

Tongli Town is one of the six water towns in the south of the Yangtze River (Zhouzhuang, Luzhi, Tongli in Jiangsu, Nanxun, Wuzhen, Xitang in Zhejiang). The 15 rivers in the shape of "chuan" divide the ancient town into seven small islands, and 49 ancient bridges connect them together. It is famous for "small bridges, flowing water, and people's houses". Each ancient town has its own characteristics. Tongli Ancient Town is like a miniature bonsai in the south of the Yangtze River, small and beautiful, and as gentle and charming as a woman in the south of the Yangtze River, showing the warmth of the water town, which is worth your stroll...

The Tianyuan Cultural Garden consists of four parts: Tianyuan Building, Tianyi Pavilion, Front Garden and Back Garden. The whole building is built around the theme of chess.

The three bridges in Tongli are Taiping Bridge, Jili Bridge and Changqing Bridge. The three bridges are less than 50 meters apart and stand in the shape of a Chinese character "品" in the center of the ancient town.

Gengle Hall, Chongben Hall, Pearl Tower Garden, and Tuisi Garden are all famous gardens worth visiting carefully. In particular, Tuisi Garden has been included in the World Cultural Heritage List. I only visited Tongli Ancient Town in a hurry, but it gave me a very good feeling. Not only are there many Jiangnan gardens, but it also shows the gentleness of the water town (Love Bee) (Love Bee) I think I will come again, walk slowly, and appreciate it carefully, just because of the beauty, just for the gentleness...

The river outside the door is so quiet and green, like a piece of high-quality jade. Most of the boats are parked on the shore, covered with blue awnings, and only a few are still working. The boatman paddles lightly, taking a few guests to the water to feel the charm of Jiangnan. Ospreys stand on both sides of the empty boat, holding their heads high, occasionally flapping their wings to stretch their muscles.

The buildings along the river have been transformed into restaurants, teahouses and bars. There are also many local residents' homes. Walking into the narrow alleys and pushing open the heavy wooden door, the old man coughs lightly and the dog comes to greet you happily. This is the most authentic Jiangnan taste. Isn't this exactly what Du Xunhe described in "Sending Someone to Wu":

When you come to Gusu, you will see that every household lives by the river.

There is little vacant land in the ancient palace, but many water lanes and small bridges.

Water chestnuts and lotus roots are sold at the night market, and spring boats are loaded with silk and satin.

I know the moon is still awake, and my homesickness is in the fishermen’s songs.

Carrying green plum wine and an oil-paper umbrella, I walked up the Sanqiao Bridge and became part of the poetic and picturesque scenery of Jiangnan. I silently recited Dai Wangshu's "Rainy Alley":

Holding an oil-paper umbrella, I wander alone in the long, long and lonely rain alley

I hope to meet a girl who is as sad as lilac

She is the color of lilac

The fragrance of lilac

Sadness like lilac

Sad and confused in the rain.

The girl didn't see me, but the cat in the corner saw me and stared at me in a daze.

Tongli Ancient Town is a well-known ancient town in the south of the Yangtze River. The scenery of small bridges, flowing water and houses can be seen everywhere in the ancient town. The ancient stage also performs wonderful operas every day. Since it covers a relatively large area and the tourists are more scattered, there don’t seem to be many people even in the peak tourist season, and it is very comfortable to visit.

By @猪慢IVY |

I stayed in an inn in Tongli, and the landlady said that there was no entrance fee, but the next day, I still needed to provide tickets to enter the several gardens within the gardens in Zhouzhuang, otherwise I was not allowed to go in. It didn't feel that good. The stone pavement felt very historical, and it felt pretty good if I kept a good attitude.

This trip to Tongli and Zhouzhuang, Tongli is quieter than the latter, although the scale effect brings you, but it is not worse than Zhouzhuang. Zhouzhuang is an ancient town with a crowded nightlife, and of course it is also beautiful. This trip to Nanjing, I went to the Yangtze River Bridge specifically to fulfill my mother's wish, Qinhuai River and the like did not particularly attract me, I don't know why I can't comment

By Tomoe Outer Sound 8206 |

To me, Tongli is a less famous 5A-level tourist attraction. Unlike Zhouzhuang and Wuzhen, ancient towns with a strong "commercial" atmosphere, half of the residents are locals. It is relatively primitive and very suitable for those who want to leave the city and live a simple life in a small town. The consumption is very moderate and I hope it can continue to maintain this.

There are many small shops at the entrance of the scenic area. Once you enter the scenic area, the feeling of small bridges and flowing water in the Jiangnan town slowly emerges. The Tuisi Garden in the town embodies the style of Suzhou gardens.

It is suitable to stay there for one night. If you have a lot of luggage, it is not recommended to stay too far inside. The stone road is not easy to walk on. It is an ancient town with a strong sense of fireworks. In the morning, you can still see people washing clothes and cooking.

On October 25, my family of four went to Tongli Ancient Town for a tour. After the tour, we went to Huanhu West Road near the scenic spot for a meal. We originally planned to eat at Jiangnan Commune on Huanhu West Road, but ended up parking our car in the public parking space in front of the Daxiangying Kelai'an Private Kitchen restaurant at No. 279 Huanhu West Road. However, the Daxiangying Kelai'an Private Kitchen restaurant expelled me from the restaurant because I did not go to their restaurant for a meal. I asked them to show their parking space ownership certificate, but all the employees of the restaurant, about a dozen people, came out to insult and beat me. When I was about to leave, the other party's boss lady kicked my car (see picture), causing my car door to dent. This incident made me very disappointed with the tourism environment in Tongli. How could such a thing happen in Tongli Scenic Area? Tourists are reminded that if they drive to Huanhu Road to eat, especially to the Daxiangying Kelai'an Private Kitchen restaurant opened by barbarians, they should be especially careful. If you park your car in a public parking lot, you may be smashed and beaten. I called the police for this matter, and the police took the restaurant owner to the police station and he was said to have stayed there for 8 hours.

When buying the ticket, tell the ticket seller that you will stay for one night and take a handprint, and then show him the tickets for the attractions inside.

Tongli Ancient Town is more than 30 kilometers away from Suzhou City. It takes only one hour to get there by car from the North Square of Suzhou Station. Now it is more convenient with the subway. At that time, the ticket price was 100 yuan per person, including more than a dozen gardens such as Tuisi Garden, Chen Qubing's Former Residence, Jiayin Hall, Chongben Hall, Pearl Tower, Gengle Hall, Shao'ao's Former Residence, Songshi Wuyuan, etc., and you can also take a boat to Luoxingzhou; each time you go to a scenic spot, a hole is punched on the ticket, so you can't enter repeatedly. A ticket can be used for a maximum of 2 days. The guide says that you need to take the accommodation certificate to the ticket center or the Tuisi Garden Visitor Distribution Center for stamping, but in fact you don't have to do this. All attractions in the ancient town will close before 17:15 and will not be open at night. The advantage of taking the bus from the North Square Bus Station is that the North Square Station has the highest departure frequency, with a bus every 15 minutes, and you can buy a combined ticket that includes the Tongli ticket and the bus ticket here, the fare is 80 yuan per person, minus the 8 yuan per person bus ticket, the Tongli ticket is 72 yuan per person, which is 4 yuan cheaper than the discounted ticket online, so there is no need to book online.

Tongli Ancient Town is surrounded by five lakes and is a veritable Jiangnan water town. It is a pleasure to stay in the town for a night, watch the night view of the water town, enjoy the morning of the water town, and experience a classical homestay.

Tongli is not hot because it is surrounded by small rivers. The temperature is very comfortable. There are small bridges, flowing water and houses. The real scenery is very beautiful!

Tongli Ancient Town is a pretty good ancient town. The Sichuan-shaped river connects the seven parts together. It is suitable to stay here for a few days and slowly feel the slow life here!

Ancient towns in China are inevitably commercialized, so you can't have too high expectations. There are human-powered tricycles (to introduce attractions), cruise ships, and electric vehicles in the scenic area. Personally, I think walking is the best option. The distance between attractions is not far, and you can also walk through the streets and alleys, which is very enjoyable.

Compared with Zhouzhuang, Tongli Ancient Town is a fusion of scenic spots and residential areas, which makes people feel the strong charm of the Jiangnan ancient town and see the quiet and comfortable life in the Jiangnan area.

You need to buy a 100-yuan ticket to enter the ancient town before 7:00, which includes 8 attractions: Tuisi Garden, Ancient Style Garden, Chongben Hall (Jiangnan Wedding Customs Museum), Jiayin Hall, Former Residence of Wang Shaoao (Liugeng Hall), Pearl Tower, Songshi Park, and Gengle Hall. No tickets are required after 17:30.

Among the six ancient towns in the south of the Yangtze River, Tongli is not very famous. It is located in Wujiang District, Suzhou City. It is a very typical Suzhou-style water town, but it is also a very unpopular scenic spot with few people. No tickets are required after 5 pm. You can start from the downtown area of Suzhou and play for half a day.

I bought the tickets the day before and exchanged them to enter the scenic area. There are several scenic spots in Tongli that require tickets to enter. The most impressive ones are the Retreat and Reflection Garden and the Pearl Tower. The others are just so-so. The gardens in Suzhou are small from the entrance, but the deeper you go, the more unique they are. There were not many people walking in the ancient town, which was quite enjoyable. I continued to visit the ancient town in the afternoon and found a girls' school. It seemed that no one came, but I went in for a while. The classrooms on both sides were very impressive, just like the schools in TV dramas. There was a swing in the school. I sat and played for a long time, and I was a little dizzy. Later, I got used to it and it was comfortable.

In fact, every water town has its own unique features. Tongli is more lively than Wuzhen, which is a textbook scenic spot. Tongli is not big. If you get up early, you can visit it in 5 hours. So you don't need to make a plan or rush. You can visit it slowly, play slowly, enjoy slowly, and kill time slowly. There are surprises everywhere. The mottled old walls, the deep ancient alleys, the lush trees, the people and things in life are all worth recording.

Jiangnan Water Village has a river in every ancient town, winding through it like a ribbon that leads you from beginning to end. Like many other ancient towns, Tongli also has a river, and there are boats on the river, and there are naturally many tourists on the boats. Sitting by the river, you can see a boat of foreigners singing the English version of "The Moon Represents My Heart" and passing through the bridge. For an ancient town not to be labeled as commercial, the most important thing is that there are real people in the town. The old walls that should be very old are given new vitality by climbing plants, and those clothes hanging to dry are life.

Tongli Ancient Town is my least favorite ancient town. I feel that it has lost the charm of an ancient town. It feels more like a tourist attraction. Looking at the overall shape of the ancient town, it is a bit too commercial. Anyway, it feels too ordinary. The overall style of the ancient town is to visit the houses of wealthy families in the past.

According to the landlord's recommendation, the scenery in Tongli is only slightly worse than that in Zhouzhuang, so we decided to come to Tongli to experience the scenery of the ancient town.

In June, Tongli is deserted and quiet.

I remember it was drizzling outside on the first day I arrived in Tongli.

When I left in the evening, the innkeeper said,

If it rains, just wear more clothes.

This gives it a more ancient town feel.

When I took the camera to take pictures of the night scene,

The bar singer's singing came to my ears.

Miss Dong, daughter love, my deskmate...,

Even if you just sit quietly in such an environment,

It’s a kind of enjoyment for me too.

Tongli is the most convenient place for transportation among the surrounding ancient towns. You can take the subway to Tongli Station, and you can take a taxi to the ancient town after getting off the subway. Like gardens, there are many ancient towns of all sizes in Suzhou. If you don't have enough time, you can just choose one to experience. If you really don't have time, you can just visit Pingjiang Road. Because I personally feel that the scenery of the ancient town is similar to that of Pingjiang Road. When visiting Tongli, I deliberately chose some places with not too many people. Although some places are very simple, it is a good experience to feel the life of the Jiangnan water town more realistically. It is especially comfortable to listen to the conversations between locals. In addition, there are some places in Tongli that charge fees, and you can buy joint tickets. But when I went there, it was almost closed, so I didn't buy a ticket, but just visited some places that didn't cost money, and I think this is enough.

When you arrive in Tongli, the first thing you see is a towering imitation Ming Dynasty archway, standing in the midday sun, shining brightly. On the plaque, the eye-catching and dazzling characters "China's Famous Historical and Cultural Town" were written by Mr. Fei Xiaotong. After walking across the Sanyuan Bridge, you have truly entered the ancient town of Tongli. The feeling that Tongli gave me: simple folk customs, elegant environment, quiet and peaceful

I stayed in Tongli for two days and one night. I stayed in the inn in the ancient town. It was a very good experience. It was like an environment away from the world. It was beautiful and comfortable.

Because it was raining, there was no one at the gate to collect tickets. Usually, it seems that no tickets are collected after 17:00. The misty Jiangnan has a special flavor in the misty drizzle.

This water town is known as the Venice of the East and is one of the six ancient towns in the south of the Yangtze River. The waterside is full of places to eat at night, and there is a Tuisi Garden, which is quite nice.

When I stayed at Tongli Lake Resort, I visited Tongli Ancient Town. The original flavor of the ancient town is still preserved. Compared with other famous ancient towns, it lacks highlights and fame. The business atmosphere is okay. Overall, it is relatively comfortable. The consumption level is not high. I recommend Hongyunlou for a meal. It is more authentic Jiangsu Taihu Three Whites.

Tongli Ancient Town is a place I like very much. It is so pleasant to take a boat tour of the ancient town in summer. It is like traveling in a painting!

By 說時依舊 |

Tongli covers an area of 33 hectares, surrounded by five lakes, connected by 49 bridges, and a network of rivers that divide the town into seven islands. Every household in the ancient town is close to the water, and every household has access to boats; the bridges from the Song, Yuan, Ming and Qing dynasties are well preserved. There are fewer modern things, so it would be better if you have the conditions to stay for one night!

Tips: The ticket to Tongli Ancient Town is 100 yuan. If you buy it on China-TravelNote one day in advance, it is 80 yuan per ticket. You can also go to Suzhou Bus North Station and buy tickets at the first window in the hall (bus to Tongli + ticket), or buy tickets alone, which is also 80 yuan.

There are several gardens in Tongli Ancient Town, each with its own characteristics. They are very beautiful and also suitable for taking pictures.

Following the attractions and road signs on the ticket, we admired the gardens one by one and strolled through the ancient town. Although it was a bit commercialized, it still felt good.

The scenery of the garden may not have the historical stories like the Lion Grove, but the scenery is just as beautiful.

There are all kinds of beautiful little details in the garden, such as the gourd-shaped window, which shines golden in the setting sun, like a real gourd.

For example, the vase-shaped doorways, one inside the other, are very cute.

I have always liked ancient towns, the ancient towns in Jiangnan

By Cool breeze |

I came here from downtown Suzhou and stayed overnight. Maybe it was winter, there were fewer people and it was relatively quiet. But the lighting was a little dim at night, and it was not comfortable for my eyes when I walked on the street. I didn't look around much and found a place to stay. It was 6:30 in the morning when we arrived at Tongli Ancient Town. It was still light and the ancient town was quiet. The housekeeper of the B&B was waiting for us at the entrance. On the way to the B&B, he introduced us to the origin of the name of the ancient town and the precautions for visiting attractions. Passing through the Ming and Qing shopping streets, we came to the place where we stayed this time, Yueju Wenlv Meisu. The B&B has a sense of design and a large space. The housekeeper told us that all the furniture is made of logs. Because we arrived early, the housekeeper also prepared breakfast for us. After packing up, we went directly into the ancient town. There were not many people in the ancient town in the early morning. Some local residents were washing clothes by the river, and the scenery of the ancient town was original. We walked around the ancient town and ate the specialties of the ancient town, the socks and the champion's hoof. The socks we went to was also recommended to us by the housekeeper of Yueju Wenlv. It is said that the socks in the town are all purchased from them, and the shape is really like the bottom of the socks. After walking around the ancient town for a while, more people began to appear. We were tired of walking around, so we found Cheng'entang Private Restaurant. We heard from the housekeeper of Yueju that their No. 1 pig's hoof was famous, so we went to try it. I don't know if it's because I'm from the north. Although the pig's hoof is delicious, it's a bit sweet for me. After dinner, we went to some famous attractions such as Tuisi Garden, Gengle Hall, and Sanqiao. The garden architecture in Suzhou is very special and has a lot of charm. We were tired of walking around and it was a little late. We took a boat trip on the river and then returned to Yueju Cultural Hotel. The housekeeper also prepared sweet soup and brought it to our room. The distant singing of folk singers came from the other side of the river, like a beautiful dream! I think Tongli is a beautiful dream belonging to Jiangnan! It is still peaceful, beautiful, and pristine here. The aborigines live a small life here and live forever. I like it here very much.

There are many streets, lanes and bridges in the ancient town, which you can stroll slowly. It is one of the six major water towns in the south of the Yangtze River. It is slightly larger than Wuzhen, but not as well developed as Wuzhen. It is more beautiful! It is still suitable for a leisurely tour for one or two days.

Take Metro Line 4 to the end of Tongli. Turn left when you exit the station. Parking is 1 yuan. Take bus No. 725 for 5 stops and walk 150 meters back. Turn right at KFC. It is convenient and saves time and money.

The ancient town has been developed and no longer looks like an ancient town. In particular, the homestays that have sprung up in recent years have almost ruined all the scenic spots, and Tongli is no exception. It was originally small and gradually lost its characteristics.

By Kazakhstan |

Jiangnan Ancient Town, Ink and Wash Tongli. Line 4 goes directly to the entrance of the scenic spot, the transportation is very convenient, the commercialization is not particularly serious, and the strong water town flavor is still preserved.
