Suzhou University

Soochow University is located in the ancient city of Suzhou. It is a key university in the National 211 Project. Its predecessor was Soochow University, which was founded in 1900 during the reign of Emperor Guangxu.
As one of the earliest modern institutions of higher learning in China, Soochow University has created several firsts in the history of modern higher education in China.
The main campus of Soochow University is the most historic one. The most attractive thing is the old-style buildings all over the campus, the most famous of which are the Red Tower and the Bell Tower.
In spring, the campus is full of flowers, and in autumn, the campus is full of ginkgo leaves, which are very beautiful. There is also a Suzhou University Museum inside, which is also worth a visit.

Not allowed in, so sad! Only on free open days, and reservations on the official website. The security guards are very strict. I went there twice to try my luck but was turned away both times. Finally, reservations worked. If you make a reservation, you must enter through the main entrance, because other doors do not have equipment to scan ID cards. Don't ask me how I know this, it's all tears.

Soochow University is located in Suzhou, a historical and cultural city known as "paradise on earth". It is one of the first universities included in the national "211 Project" and "2011 Plan". It is a "Double First-Class" construction university jointly built by the Ministry of Education and the Jiangsu Provincial Government, and a university jointly built by the State Administration of Science, Technology and Industry for National Defense and the Jiangsu Provincial People's Government. It is a key comprehensive university in Jiangsu Province.

Real experience!

My family is poor and I don't have money to go to university. I just wanted to go to the local Suzhou University, but I was not allowed in because I was not a student of the school. I heard that Tsinghua University and Peking University allowed me in, but unfortunately I don't have money to go to Beijing. As a taxpayer, should I be discriminated against by the university? Even two students from Suzhou University who passed by the school gate said: Why should we let you in! (In fact, they also said: This is the school's rule!) Naked class discrimination!

If you want to enter Soochow University, you can go to the East Campus (South Gate) of Soochow University. You can find it by following the navigation. You can usually get in with a backpack. Today I walked in from here. I was lucky that the security guard didn't stop me.

By Changyue Cottage |

It is a famous school with a long history. The campus buildings and scenery are very historical, with large lawns and scattered trees.

By chestnut |

Simple and elegant, leisurely and comfortable, bookish and full of business

By 198fish |

The historical context of the building is clear and the ghosts are beautiful. Find a student to bring it in, otherwise the security guard will not let you in.

By Mugemanduo |

The school has a great environment and the old buildings have their own characteristics

By Traveler |

Do remember to make an appointment in advance, otherwise you won’t be able to get in. The threshold is too high and ordinary people like us can’t get in.

Bad review, bad review, bad review. I wanted to go there but heard that I was not allowed to enter. How does Peking University and Tsinghua University compare? It's not to this extent. I wanted to go to Humble Administrator's Garden on Guanqian Street. I took a taxi for ten yuan and saw a rickshaw. Twenty yuan. Well, it's not easy to make money now. Labor costs are high, OK. I saw a supermarket and wanted to buy a pack of cigarettes first, so I got on the rickshaw. As a result, the guy on the rickshaw shouted 5 yuan to go,,,,,,,😭 How embarrassing. I suggest that fellow Taoists should know the approximate price. How much. It's better to give priority to scenic spots! Speaking of Zhaoji Heritage, some desserts are limited, which is speechless. I have always hated this kind of spending money and being controlled. The things inside are very sweet. If you like it, you can try it.

A campus with a strong sense of history, it combines elements of Suzhou's gardens and water towns, blending nature and humanity. Soochow University is not as crowded with tourists as Xiamen University, but I like it more because of its rare tranquility. It has a strong flavor of the Republic of China, and its predecessor was Soochow University during the Guangxu period.

The Red Building and the Bell Tower, also known as the School of Mathematics and the Principal's Office, are two must-see places on campus. This time I went there just when the welcome stage was being set up, and the atmosphere was great!

If you are a tourist, it is best to enter through the small gate on Shizi Street. The security guards are very strict, so you have to be thick-skinned and ask a few more times. If you are a student, it is best to bring your student ID card, admission letter, etc. If you don't have one, just ask innocently if you can register your ID card. Try to persuade them.

By China-TravelNote users |

You are not allowed to enter!!! The guard said that you are not allowed to enter any door, what is going on???

By Toad of Walden Pond |

I met two kind students at the west gate who took me in. The old buildings, large lawns, and tree-lined avenues were so beautiful that they were unmatched.

By Crystal clear |

I met the most beautiful Soochow University. I was stopped by the security guard at the gate. I found a guy from Soochow University at the gate and talked to him about whether there were any side gates in their school. I could just go through the west gate.

By Wangmiao |

This university can only be described as beautiful. The architecture of Soochow University was so well thought out that it makes people feel like they are in a foreign university and feel the youthful vitality. I like it very much.

The only pity is that Soochow University is not open to the public. You need to check to enter. You can try to enter from the south gate of the East Campus, which is relatively easy to check.

By Qi Nuan Ah |

You can't enter during holidays, and you can't enter without an ID card, please be informed

By Amy |

I and a girl went in directly from the main gate. Anyway, the security guard didn't stop us. The other male friends who came with us were stopped. Later, they registered with their ID cards before they were allowed in. Maybe we two girls look like students😜. The school environment is beautiful and worth visiting.

By Sun Yunpeng |

It was difficult to get in. I went alone and walked through the South Gate, which is the smallest gate. I talked to the security guard for a long time. During this time, several groups of tourists who were turned away walked by and gave up. Finally, I showed my student ID and registered to get in. Generally speaking, it may be easier for students.

By Take you on a trip |

The security guard at Soochow University was really dedicated. He saw at a glance that we were fake and ruthlessly stopped us at the door.

We saw a young man on the road and asked carefully if he could take us in. The young man agreed decisively. Here is the young man making a crazy phone call.

It's not easy to get in. I must shoot more and make back my money.

Suzhou University is nice, but outsiders are not allowed to enter.

We knew this before we went, but we still wanted to try our luck (we were carefree~). Oppa wore a raincoat and a backpack, and I held an umbrella without any photography equipment in my hand. The two of us walked towards the south gate of Soochow University with expressionless faces, pretending to be calm. Looking from a distance, it was raining and no one was standing guard. There were two students going in one after the other, and there was no movement in the security room. I was secretly happy: I guess there will be no problem~ I glanced at Oppa next to me, and walked forward boldly without looking sideways. One foot was about to step over the threshold, and suddenly, a roar came from the side of my ear: What are you doing! Turning around and seeing the angry eyes of the security guard, the two of us couldn't answer for a moment... 0.5 seconds later, the uncle roared again: Which college are you from! We said in unison: The School of Mathematics! Maybe the raincoat made the uncle suspicious. He looked unhappy but didn't say anything, so we just came in like this! We smiled at each other and escaped danger. The campus of Soochow University is very quiet. Walk in quietly from the south gate, pass through several peach trees, and you will see this beautiful mathematics building.

By Arctic Ocean breeze |

The reason I gave it five stars is that I believe the old site of Soochow University must be full of charm. But unfortunately I did not go into the main campus of Soochow University. I don't know why such a university would refuse visitors. There should not be many people who like to visit universities, but those who have visited universities will have a persistent complex about each local school, especially some places with historical and cultural heritage. Although I understand that the visit of tourists will disturb the students and teachers' quiet cultivation, we should not stop eating because of choking. Closure will not bring more progress.

By lovlasd |

Looking at the comments that were so angry that they gave it one star, and even scolded the dedicated security guards, it is indeed the wisest decision for the school to not allow low-quality tourists to enter. The school is not a tourist attraction, it is a place for academic research, and there are many girls in the main campus. Whether in terms of life, study or safety, not allowing social idlers to enter is a wise choice... Especially after seeing the Wuhan University cherry blossom tourist incident this year... Don't expect the quality of some tourists...

ps. For those who really want to see the beautiful scenery, please be polite. If you say that Peking University and Tsinghua University are allowed in but you are not allowed in, you deserve to be scolded. Don't argue with the security guards, they are paid to do their job according to the rules. If an accident is caused by social people, they will lose their jobs. Avoid holidays, as holidays are the peak of tourists and inspections. Politely approach the students at the door of the Soochow University and ask to be taken in, it will be easy.

Finally, here are some beautiful pictures. Soochow University welcomes tourists, but only friendly tourists.

By Small emotional happiness |

People say that the most beautiful universities in China are Wuhan University and Xiamen University, but in fact, Suzhou University also has its own unique charm, especially in the rain.

By There are good trees in the south |

The campus of Soochow University is one of the best in the country. I walked to the gate with admiration, but the security guard stopped me mercilessly and said I couldn’t enter without a certificate. . .

The security guard at the gate wouldn't let me in, saying the school doesn't allow visits, so I took a taxi here.

Suzhou University is the most complete ancient street area in existence. You can stroll through the streets of ancient houses with small bridges and flowing water, and enjoy Kunqu Opera and Pingtan. The bridge is also very distinctive, such as the drum stones and cloud-patterned stone columns at both ends of the bridge railings, and the railings carved with patterns of double dragons playing with pearls, green bamboo, flowers, etc. are all very delicate.

By Edison, South |

Suzhou University is a bit of a rip-off. I originally wanted to go in and take a look, but it turned out that it was not open to tourists at all. At least the number of people should be limited. It is not open to the public at all. It is a bit of a rip-off.

The former site of Soochow University is actually the main campus of Soochow University. In the 10th year of Emperor Tongzhi’s reign (1871), the American Methodist Church established Cunyang College on Shiquan Street in Suzhou. In the 5th year of Emperor Guangxu’s reign (1879), it moved to Tianci Village and was renamed Boxi College. In the 27th year of Emperor Guangxu’s reign, Soochow University Hall, or Soochow College, was established on the basis of Boxi College, becoming one of the early church universities established by American Christianity in China. After the Revolution of 1911, it was renamed Soochow University, with three colleges: liberal arts, science, and law. In 1952, it was reorganized into Jiangsu Normal University. In 1982, it was reorganized into Soochow University, and the current campus has been greatly expanded compared to the Soochow University period.

Suzhou University is in the style of the Republic of China, very retro and fresh, the buildings are very beautiful, but the school gate is very difficult to enter. I am also very curious why a higher education institution would not allow outsiders to enter, it is not a high school. The main gate of the school is very strictly controlled, everyone will be checked, and it is basically impossible to get in. But in addition to the main gate, there are other gates, right? I sneaked in from the west gate, and the security guard at the gate didn't even look at it. As soon as you enter the west gate, you will see the most quintessential Republic of China-style buildings and the archway of Soochow University. The bell tower and the lawn are the most beautiful here, and the lawn is surrounded by super retro buildings. Behind it is the Wang Jian Law Building, which has round windows inside, which is very suitable for taking pictures. Behind this building is the South Gate, where you can go out.

Is Suzhou University one of the most beautiful universities in China? I feel that its style is very similar to the nearby Zhejiang University Zhijiang Campus. It has a quiet and study-friendly atmosphere. It would be great if I could study here.

Rubbish university, this is the first time I've been denied entry to a university. They check student IDs at the entrance and exit, and if you don't have one, you're not allowed in. Rubbish, how can you make progress if you don't communicate with society?

By Sonam Bhagye |

It may be because the students were on summer vacation, so the guards did not check the student ID cards. I walked in without hesitation, and on the way I was still thinking of various reasons to negotiate with the guards. The environment inside the school is still good. I won’t say much about the subjects, just look at the pictures.

I love the entrance of Soochow University very much. There is a convenient electric vehicle repair shop with yellow letters on a red background, a "key duplication" hanging on the tree trunk, peeling walls, and the sound of a radio. It feels like walking in the old times.

Ivy covered the red brick walls, surrounding the entire building. How many times have I imagined writing in such a small building, and when I was tired of writing, I would open the window and take a look at the green outside. The teaching building of Soochow University should be what I dreamed of.

Suzhou University is very beautiful. The buildings and trees on campus are very old and very distinctive. Unlike the modernization of other university campuses, the teaching buildings of Suzhou University are all made of red bricks, which look very old. The atmosphere on campus is also very good and very peaceful. It's a pity that the weather was bad when we went there. Although it didn't rain at that time, the weather was also gloomy, and the color of the buildings of Suzhou University was dimmed. I believe that visiting here on a sunny day will have a different charm. Suzhou University can be regarded as one of the most beautiful university campuses I have ever seen. Its calmness, restraint and classical charm are comparable to Tsinghua University and Peking University.

By Nathan |

It was not as beautiful as I imagined. There were only a few characteristic buildings. The guard at the small gate had a very bad attitude and even said that the school was not open. Later I entered from the main gate.

By Yu Da Gou |

It's a pretty campus, but I didn't meet many pretty girls with fair skin. I'm sad.

By Confined Bear |

Don't go, this school doesn't allow visitors, and the security guards are very bad. It feels stricter than the old imperial palace system. This security guard had just had an argument with a couple from Beijing, and in order to show that he treated everyone equally, he started to pretend to ask students to show their student ID cards.

As a very representative university in Suzhou, its century-old history is certainly not to be missed. Many of its well-known buildings have also become important scenes for filming movies and TV series. It is recommended to spend a day walking around and feeling it.

Every time I go to a city, I yearn to visit a local university. The university campus always reminds me of the energetic students and bright and sunny faces! I went to Suzhou University during the Qingming Festival. The trees of flowers blooming on the campus that I couldn’t name were particularly stunning. It was really an unexpected surprise. We took countless group and individual photos along the way. That was the most unexpected surprise of the day's trip. I am also grateful to my bestie who accompanied me on the trip at that time. Cherish what you have is the greatest happiness at the moment! They say companionship is the most lasting confession of love. Sometimes I even feel that traveling must be done with besties. We can make travel plans together, talk about food together, and even wrap ourselves in bed together and tell little secrets. How intimate that would be. After all, girls love taking photos when traveling, but many boys can't seem to stand this "acting". But we just enjoy it. There are hundreds of ways to travel, but most girls can relate to their love for traveling. Most importantly, I think girls can share the expenses when traveling together, which is quite economical. Because everyone is involved, the whole trip will be more memorable.

Soochow University is one of the top ten most beautiful campuses in China. The main campus is the most historic one. The old-style buildings are all over the campus. When the spring comes, the flowers are blooming. Walking among them makes you feel happy. There will be many people taking photos inside. Almost every corner of this school is suitable for taking photos. Any photo is full of beauty. Spring and autumn are the best seasons to come here. Ordinary tourists cannot enter the campus. The guard will check the ID card, and you need to bring it in with a current student.

Full of memories, the place where I spent four years of my beautiful youth; I go back every year after graduation, and every time I go, I get new touches. There are five campuses in total in Soochow University. The most worthwhile one is the Tiancizhuang Campus, which is the main campus and is very close to Guanqian Street; the Republican-style buildings are the most attractive place for tourists, and it is also the location for many film and television dramas. PS: The reason why many people give bad reviews is that they cannot enter the campus. In fact, the school’s access management has been very strict since 2009. Although this is somewhat contrary to the current trend of openness and inclusiveness of universities, the school is very close to major downtown areas, and the theft in student dormitories is serious, so this measure has to be taken. In fact, if you want to come in for a visit, it is also very simple. It is recommended to contact the students inside or at the door to take you in.

By A rookie |

Soochow University was once rated as one of the top ten most beautiful campuses in China. I think it is mainly because of the old campus with a very interesting style - the former site of Soochow University. There are four small villas here, Spring, Summer, Autumn and Winter. I imagine it would be a blessing to study here. The main building is well preserved and very majestic, and seems to be more imposing than many newly built larger buildings.

By Young |

In this simple, elegant and quiet land of Suzhou, Soochow University has its unique temperament.

When you first enter the school gate, you will see tall, symmetrical buildings with a very imposing appearance, just like a modern university. It seems that the school's philosophy of "loyalty to academics" and "development of scientific research" are written on its surface. Compared with other universities, there is nothing unique about it.

However, as we walked forward, passing the dormitory area, the cafeteria, and the basketball court, Soochow University was becoming more and more gentle, more and more like the Republic of China, more and more elegant and delicate, and more and more majestic and solemn.

Compared to the Republican-era buildings I saw in Nanjing, the Republican-era atmosphere of Soochow University is more Western, with red brick walls and Western-style roofs, perhaps because it is closer to Shanghai. I think the architecture of Soochow University is somewhat similar to the Western gardens on Gulangyu Island. It seems that I have seen those young women again, whose every move and smile were exquisite and incomparable, looking back and gazing at these buildings that seem to be frozen in time, with warm memories and smiles.

The main campus of Soochow University is the most historic one. The most attractive thing is the old-style buildings all over the campus. The most famous ones are the Red Tower and the Bell Tower, where the School of Mathematics and the President's Office are located. In the main campus, the general tour route is the university gate-Bell Tower-Zishi Hall-Sima De Gymnasium-Jingzheng Hall-Red Tower-Wenxing Pavilion. The Bell Tower, Jingzheng Building, Weige Hall, Zishi Hall and other buildings of different styles that come into view are like a small architectural exhibition.

Walking to the north gate (Xiangmen Station on Line 1), I started to feel a little timid. It was already around 4:30 pm. I saw many students entering the gate one after another. The door was not wide open, and the security guard stood straight on the side, but did not check the student IDs. We felt that this was definitely a good opportunity not to be missed, so I followed the crowd in with my bestie arm in arm. It was not until we walked in for more than two minutes that I felt relieved! The rumored iron barrel of Soochow University was squeezed in by us, haha~

By wangye421 |

The night before I left Suzhou, I strolled along the street to Suzhou University. It was winter vacation, and the campus was dim and not crowded. Although I couldn't see the Republican-era buildings on campus clearly, I could still feel the unique atmosphere of the university in the air. Lover's Hill (I don't know if that's what it's called) was even more of a surprise. See the picture.

The main campus of Soochow University is the most historic one. The most attractive thing is the old-style buildings all over the campus. The most famous ones are the Red Building and the Bell Tower, the School of Mathematics and the President's Office. Most students like to lie on the lawn and the Lover's Hill, where it is very comfortable to just lie down and watch the sunset. In spring, the campus is full of flowers, and in autumn, the ginkgo leaves all over the campus are very beautiful.

Soochow University is also one of the top ten most beautiful campuses in China! Soochow University really made me feel that the trip was worthwhile. The main gate and the north gate of Soochow University require student IDs, so don't try to get through, because you can't get in at all. So the correct way to open it should be to go around to the East Campus of Soochow University, enter from the East Campus, pass through the East Campus, and cross a bridge to enter the main campus~

【Soochow University】The main predecessor is Soochow University founded in 1900 during the reign of Emperor Guangxu. I heard that you must come to see the beautiful Soochow University headquarters. It is all red houses. But it is not so bad after entering. Secondly, it is very difficult to enter the headquarters! I have read many guides before saying that you can enter by registering your ID card, but today we were stopped twice when we entered, and the guards would not let us in no matter what we said. Later, I asked a classmate to take me in, but I was still asked and lied that I was allowed in because of my friend. There are several guards at each door, and you must show your student ID.

The university was founded as early as the reign of Emperor Guangxu of the Qing Dynasty. It was formerly known as Soochow University, and it is the first private university in China. The architecture of the main campus of Soochow University is famous for its Republican style. In spring, the campus is full of spring flowers, and in autumn, the ginkgo leaves all over the campus are very beautiful.

Just as the comments said, there is nothing special when you first enter the door, but the highlights are later on, because it is the former Soochow University, and it has its own characteristics.

The new campus is not easy to see. The inner part of Soochow University is the best looking. The houses are well designed.

Suzhou University (main campus) is located in the ancient city of Suzhou. Its predecessor was Soochow University, which was founded in 1900 during the reign of Emperor Guangxu. It has a history of 100 years. Suzhou University (main campus) is the most historic campus. The most attractive thing is the old-fashioned buildings on campus, which have the architectural features of the Republic of China. The most famous ones are the Red Tower and the Bell Tower.

The predecessor was Soochow University. Later, when it was rebuilt, it was named Suzhou University. It seems that there is a Soochow University in Taiwan, which was also restored after Chiang Kai-shek moved there. The real site of Soochow University is still in Suzhou University. The whole university feels very quiet, and there are not many students, because the school buildings in this campus are all cultural relics. Maybe because of this, there are fewer students. I have been to Xiamen University and I think I like Suzhou University more. The literary feeling of creepers is very beautiful. It is especially beautiful, indescribable. Maybe it is because I came at noon, with direct sunlight, and the light and shadow of the forest came out. It is the season when the wisteria flowers are about to pass, and there are still some residual flowers on the wisteria trees, which are beautiful beyond words. When I visited the garden, there were also some wisterias in the Lingering Garden where I first went. Unfortunately, when I went to the Lion Grove, the Humble Administrator's Garden and the Suzhou Museum, the wisterias had withered. The dishes in the cafeteria of Suzhou University are really delicious, cheap and delicious, especially the Shandong multi-grain pancakes, which are genuine and inexpensive.

Suzhou University is a key university in China's 211 Project. It is very beautiful, surrounded by mountains and rivers. There is a library inside the school and a snack bar and entertainment street outside. It's great~

It’s a pity that I didn’t go in to visit. I don’t want to be a student if I come with my family. I heard that the interior architecture is worth admiring. I hope I have the chance to see it in the future!

It's so beautiful, it's like a painting. Is this really a university? It's so beautiful.

The main campus of Soochow University is a historic one. There were not many people in the school during the holidays. There was only the quietness of the sunlight shining through the leaves on the path, the charming fragrance of flowers and plants floating everywhere, and the fallen leaves on the ground blowing in the wind, as if welcoming me, a guest from afar. I love the old-fashioned buildings all over the campus and the unique red building.

The main campus of Soochow University is very close to Guanqian Street. I have been to the main campus and the Dushuhu Campus. The management of Soochow University is very strict and outsiders are not allowed to enter. When I went to the main campus, I pretended to be a student of the school to enter. The most recent one I went to was the Dushuhu Campus. I asked a couple on the street to take us in. Both parties' information had to be registered.

My suggestion is that if possible, go to the main campus of Soochow University (old campus) instead of the Dushuhu Campus (new campus). The buildings at the main campus of Soochow University have more cultural heritage and there are more students. This is the main campus of Soochow University, which I went to last December. The school cafeteria also serves Suzhou cuisine.
