Located at the junction of Wuxi, Suzhou and Changshu, it is a typical Jiangnan water town, and most of the residents in the town are of the Hua clan.
The main attractions are on Canghe North Street and Canghe South Street on both sides of the ancient town river, most of which are displays of the life stories and cultural relics of local celebrities.
The stage to the east of the Hua Hengfang Life and Deeds Exhibition Hall often hosts performances, creative markets and other activities.
There are many snacks in the ancient town, among which fried pork is the most famous. Shuijin tofu pudding, Jinjia sesame cake and medicinal pastry are also recommended.
Enjoy the authentic Wuxi-style crab roe dumplings at Qinyuan Xiaolong, and have a relaxing time at a riverside teahouse at Huafu Mingzao, where you can enjoy the scenery while drinking tea.

Wuxi Dangkou is one of the famous historical towns in China. It is a vibrant thousand-year-old town and a beautiful Jiangnan water town. Dangkou has produced many talents and elites. Over the past thousands of years, a group of cultural elites in the fields of culture, art, technology, industry, etc. have emerged. Dangkou is a leisure resort in the Yangtze River Delta, a place for displaying characteristic folk customs and commerce, and a national 4A-level tourist attraction.
It was a non-weekend when we went there, and there were not many people in the scenic area. It was very quiet, much quieter than other popular ancient towns in China. However, it is a good choice if you want to experience quietness. You can take photos without being disturbed. But there will still be a lot of people on holidays. The scenery is not much different from other famous ancient towns in Jiangnan. It is a good choice for people from the surrounding area or art students to go and take a look or sketch.
It's not very big, the prices are quite affordable, I used the Wuxi Garden Card, it was a sunny day when I went there, so the scenery was pretty good~
It looks nice, but it has too strong a modern feel. Most importantly, the river water stinks, and the whole tourist area is filled with the stink.
The Dangkou Ancient Town is much larger than expected, with a light commercial atmosphere. It is still a relatively pristine ancient water town in the south of the Yangtze River. We strolled in the rain, looking at the picturesque scenery, the grass and trees, the small bridges, the flowing water and the houses. It really has a unique charm.
I just went there yesterday. Maybe I've been to too many ancient towns, so it feels the same! The fee is also high, but the environment is well maintained.
They were all built later and have a very commercial feel!!!
On the second day of the Lunar New Year, in the ancient town of Tangkou in Wuxi, the bluestone roads, gray-white walls, black tiles and big red lanterns are dotted around. I walked through the alleys with the crowds of people, bathed in the warm spring breeze, and looked at the small bridges, flowing water, old trees and houses, feeling relaxed and leisurely.
It's not popular. I went there on a Saturday afternoon. There weren't many tourists. Except for a few tour groups, the rest were basically locals. The streets and houses in the ancient town are well-renovated, but many commercial stores are closed and not open for business. The whole scenery doesn't have many characteristics, but it feels quite quiet overall. Wuxi locals can get in for free, but there are several celebrity residences in the town, which still require money. If you are a foreign tourist, you need to pay 80 yuan for the ticket, which feels a bit too expensive and not very cost-effective.
It is recommended to introduce some businesses with more characteristics, so that even if the commercial atmosphere is a bit strong, it will not damage the atmosphere of the entire ancient town.
I went there using the navigation. There are several parking lots, so choose carefully! I chose the one near the church, which is easy to park but not very crowded!
If you are from Wuxi, you must bring your ID card so that you don't need to buy a ticket. The ticket price for others seems to be 80 yuan, and Ctrip is 60 yuan.
It has a strong commercial atmosphere, selling all kinds of specialties and snacks, many bridges, and you can also take a boat to enjoy the scenery!
Cold Dew has passed, but the promised autumn has yet to arrive.
The sunrise and dusk alternate, and even time cannot let go of our attachment to the mountains and rivers.
Then wait, and take some time to calm down your desire to go home.
When the sunny and peaceful weather is gone, think about those sad past events.
Wuxi | Dangkou Ancient Town
It is really a beautiful ancient town. I didn't know this place before. I only knew about the more famous ancient towns such as Wuzhen and Tongli. However, most of these ancient towns have been developed for a long time and have gradually become commercialized. But Dangkou Ancient Town is very simple and suitable for a leisurely tour.
The transportation is not very convenient. The bus from the high-speed rail station to the ancient town runs every half an hour. The area is not small, and you can spend three or four hours there. There are relatively few tourists, and many shops are closed, but there are still some that should be there, such as specialty products and snacks. In the end, the ancient town is almost the same, and it will feel better if there are fewer people.
It is quite famous, large in scale, and the tickets are a bit expensive. It is too commercial.
I went there during the May Day holiday. Compared to other scenic spots, there were not many people, but the scenery was beautiful. Girls can wear cheongsam and take beautiful photos~~
This ancient town is the best one I have ever visited. It is sparsely populated, authentic, and has a very Jiangnan flavor. I highly recommend it.
There are too many ancient towns and they are too bad. The newly built ones are not interesting.
The ancient water towns in the south of the Yangtze River are similar. Overall, I think they are good. Maybe because they have not been developed for a long time, there are not many big ancient trees, which makes them lack a little flavor.
The folk customs of Dangkou Ancient Town have distinct characteristics of Jiangnan water towns and unique personality. Its customs of "four seasons and eight festivals" are particularly particular about meaning and full of interest.
Jiangnan ancient towns are similar, and Dangkou Ancient Town is not much different! It is recommended to play for 3-4 hours! I really want to complain that the ticket is too expensive, 80 yuan, it doesn't feel worth it! Wuxi locals can enter for free with their ID cards and temporary residence permits, and tickets are required for various small attractions, so I didn't walk into too many courtyards... There is a wax museum that is good...
The location is a bit remote, but the overall planning is good. Residents of the city can enter the park free of charge with their ID cards.
The ticket price is 80 yuan, which is a bit expensive. The ticket includes five or six former residences of celebrities. Fortunately, there are not many people in the ancient town. The scenery is good and has the flavor of a Jiangnan town. It is suitable for strolling around and taking pictures. It is a slow-paced trip.
In late December, there are not many tourists in the ancient town, and it is leisurely and suitable for strolling and sightseeing. There is a long river here, the river water flows quietly, and the stars shine under the sunshine. White walls and black tiles, big red lanterns, arch bridges are reflected on the river surface, stone steps, and small boats are all the characteristics of this place.
There are many ancient towns nowadays, and the architectural styles are actually pretty similar. Dangkou is mainly known for its fried pork and green water dumplings, but the town's charm is also nice.
The scenery of the ancient town of "Yijiangnan, Huidangkou" is beautiful, with small bridges and flowing water, and an elegant environment. It is very pleasant to have a small gathering of three or five friends in a teahouse by the river. It's a rip-off. You don't have to buy tickets after 5:30 in the afternoon. 80 yuan for a ticket is too much😩
Antique building, leisure and entertainment, admission fee during the day, free entry after 16:30 every afternoon
Dangkou Ancient Town is very characteristic of the Jiangnan water town. Its main attractions include: Hua's Charity House, Qian Mu's Former Residence, etc.
Another point that must be mentioned is that Dangkou Ancient Town is full of snacks and special foods, and accommodation is also very convenient.
We took a taxi to Dangkou Ancient Town in the suburbs of Wuxi. It took about 40 minutes to get there. On the way back, we chose to take the bus, which went directly to Donglin Academy and took about an hour to get there without traffic jams.
This place was newly developed, so the Didi driver who took us had never heard of it... I was a little nervous. But this place was highly recommended to me by a gay friend, so I went there with a little trepidation.
When we arrived at the scenic spot, all our worries disappeared. I don't know if it was because of the rain or because there were fewer people, but we unexpectedly liked it. It's not as overly commercialized as we imagined, and there are no countless tour groups of uncles and aunts to interfere with your vision. You can take pictures and wander around at will.
It is a perfect match to visit the Jiangnan ancient town when it is drizzling. Most of my favorite photos during this trip were taken here, which is an unexpected gain. If you are not in a hurry, you can walk around slowly like us and take more photos. The ancient town is not big, and you can finish it in two hours if you walk around and take a quick look. It is recommended to spend half a day.
After I posted a few photos of Dangkou Ancient Town on WeChat Moments, many friends said they would put this place on their wish list.
I have been to Wuzhen and Nanxun before, and now I am attracted by the tranquility and simplicity of Dangkou. There are bluestone roads everywhere, winding paths, and it happened to be drizzling that day, which completely meets my definition of misty Jiangnan. It was a very pleasant day!
An ancient town in Wuxi with a beautiful small lake.
The ancient town is pretty good, although it is not very large. There are not many native residents, and it is mainly shops. But if you are close, you can also feel the strong flavor of the water town by strolling around.
There are not many people, the ancient town is relatively clean and has its own characteristics.
During the Spring Festival of the Year of the Monkey, after visiting relatives and friends and enjoying a feast for three days, I decided to take my family to an ancient town to enjoy the leisure of the holiday. I first visited Tongli, which is much more famous, but was completely bored by the crowds, so I drove to Dangkou Ancient Town in the east of Wuxi. Although the ancient town is not that old and mottled, I still like its layout and charm. The main reason is that there are relatively few tourists, which truly reflects the flavor of a small town - small bridges, flowing water, and people's homes...
My ancestral home is in Houqiao Town, next to Dangkou Town in Wuxi. When I was a child, I took a boat from Suzhou Pingmen Wharf back to Houqiao. Whenever I passed Dangkou, I felt that the surface of Dangkou Lake was wide. After the boat passed Dangkou Wharf, it was not far from Houqiao, where my father was born...
I have lived in Suzhou for more than half a century. Yesterday was my first time to visit Dangkou Ancient Town...
Maybe it’s because I’ve lived in a city like Suzhou for too long, so visiting Dangkou Ancient Town didn’t seem new to me. Maybe it’s because it’s still the Spring Festival holiday, so there weren’t too many tourists in Dangkou Ancient Town yesterday. Walking on the stone pavement in the ancient town, the number of tourists was just right…
Because there weren't many people, there wasn't the embarrassment of crowded tourist spots during festivals. It was a pleasant trip along the way. The clean and tidy streets and the warm greetings from the shops on both sides made people feel happy...
The only thing I'm not happy about is that the 80 yuan ticket is not worth it...
There are still many such ancient towns in Jiangnan, and Dangkou is the same, with a strong commercial atmosphere. However, it is in Wuxi, so I go there more often.
Tickets are 80 during the day, no tickets are required at night.
Not bad, the food has Wuxi specialties, plum blossom cake, steamed buns, fried meat, etc. There are quite a lot of food, some beautiful and delicate handicrafts, and clothes for sale. The overall size is quite large. The location is in a small town in the countryside, which is easy to find. It is only a few kilometers away from the S19 Tonghu Expressway. The flow of people during the National Day is OK.
I went there on the Mid-Autumn Festival. The whole ancient town is quite large, with two streets in the north and south, a river in the middle, and many inns and restaurants. However, because of the entrance fee (Wuxi local residents are free with their ID cards), it was quite deserted and many shops were closed. Some of the former residences of celebrities also require entrance fees, so overall it's average.
The ancient town has small bridges and flowing water, red flowers and green willows, white walls and black tiles, and rich cultural heritage.
There are many snacks in Dangkou Ancient Town and they are very cheap. It’s fun to eat and play while walking!
The town is so new that it doesn't have much to offer except for the former residences of famous people. But objectively speaking, it is well built and there are not many people, so it is nice to walk around.
Dangkou Ancient Town was listed as a national 4A scenic spot in 2014. It is located in the east of Wuxi City, 25 kilometers away from the city center. Buses 712 and 708 can get off at Dangkou Ancient Town Station, and buses 721, 729, and 732 can get off at Xinqiao Station. It is more convenient if you can drive yourself. The ticket price is 80 yuan. Currently, it is free for residents with Wuxi ID cards. Booking through travel websites such as Ctrip can be discounted. With the ticket, you can visit the small attractions in the scenic area. There are specialty souvenir shops and snack bars. The Xiaolong Wonton in Qinyuan is very cost-effective and worth a try. There are also homestays in the ancient town. You can stay for one night and quietly experience the small bridges and flowing water in the south of the Yangtze River. It has a unique flavor.
Dangkou Ancient Town will dazzle your eyes as soon as you enter it. It is a beautiful ancient town in the south of the Yangtze River. Walking along the bluestone path, you will find a different world inside. There are rivers and lakes everywhere, small bridges and flowing water, and the environment is elegant. The former residences and memorial halls all advocate the Dangkou culture of "courtesy, filial piety and righteousness". There are many shops on both sides of the street, including wine shops, butcher shops, pastry shops, special toys and small items.
It's very commercial. I went there as a tour group. There is no ancient town characteristics. The roads and houses are all antique. They are all selling food and entertainment. There are also a few former residences to visit. They are the original sites, not the original appearance. They are all imitations.
I decided to go to Dangkou Ancient Town on a whim. I searched for buses and went there directly. No tickets were needed. The ancient town is not very big, not as big as Zhouzhuang Tongli. It has a strong commercial atmosphere. There were not many people when I went there. It was a very quiet ancient town. You can really experience the feeling of a small town in the south of the Yangtze River. There is nothing particularly classic. PS: The place is a bit remote, surrounded by residential areas, and there are no large commercial places. You can just eat inside.
How should I put it? Water towns are all similar, with little difference.
The beauty of this ancient town is unexpected, because with the previous two ancient towns at the bottom, this one is obviously much better. Increase the publicity efforts, Dangkou Ancient Town is worth a visit!
It's worth going. There is a direct bus near the train station.
It was still under construction when I went there, but the general outline has already been taken shape. There are some historical relics, but they are basically modern replicas. It's okay to go there with your family on weekends if you live in Wuxi, but there's really no need to make a special trip to Wuxi for tourism.
Dangkou Ancient Town is a famous Jiangnan cultural town with a focus on the four major cultures of "water, righteousness, filial piety and fame", rich cultural heritage and many prominent families and celebrities. It is named after the E Lake and Nanqing Dang in the southeast of Wuxi. You can take bus 712 directly from the train station! There are ancient buildings on both sides of the Yisheng River here, including Beicanghe Old Street, Hua's Ancestral Hall, Laoyizhuang and other precious historical sites. This seems to be a newly developed ancient town. Even during the Golden Week, there are not many people. The reason why I chose to come here first and go to Huishan Ancient Town on the last day is for this reason. The scenery of the town is beautiful, but the development is not yet in place, and no tickets are required. If you are in a hurry, you can give up this attraction. After all, it is far away from the city and compared with Huishan Ancient Town, there are still limited attractions!
If you want to further appreciate the artistic conception of the water town, you can choose to take a boat tour. The ticket price is 15 yuan for 20 minutes, which is quite cost-effective.
Filial piety prevails here, and the land is rich in natural resources, beautiful and talented, and many celebrities have emerged. Here, rivers and lakes are crisscrossed, small bridges and flowing water, and the environment is elegant, which is worth a visit.
Dangkou Ancient Town is a newly built scenic spot in recent years, but it also has its own cultural and historical background. Legend has it that Dangkou is the hometown of Ding Lan, a filial son of the Eastern Han Dynasty. The ancient town is located in Ehu Town, southeast of Wuxi. It is adjacent to the Hongshan Yue Noble Tombs and Taibo Tomb to the west, and borders Suzhou and Changshu to the east. There are four provincial cultural relics protection units, one municipal cultural relics protection unit, and 50 historical buildings. If you want to visit, it is recommended that you stay in Wuxi for a long time, or go to Suzhou. The management is different, but there are also conflicts with Huishan Ancient Town. It depends on your choice.
You don't need to buy a big ticket to visit the ancient town, but you need to buy tickets for each small attraction inside. There are combined tickets and tickets for individual attractions.
There are a lot of people and it's a bit commercialized, but it's fun to travel with friends and have fun, being silly, and laughing.
Perhaps influenced by Dai Wangshu's Lilac, I think the most suitable weather for Jiangnan is when the rain is hazy and the drizzle is falling. At this time, the white walls, black tiles, flowing water and sky blend naturally, as if they were created by nature. There is no need to deliberately frame the scene, and everywhere looks like a carefully drawn ink painting. The red lanterns hanging under the eaves add color to this ink painting.
Fortunately, it was a rainy day today, and the occasional drizzle stopped quickly, allowing me to fully experience the quiet and peaceful atmosphere of the small town.
Compared with Zhouzhuang and Nanxun Ancient Town, Dangkou Ancient Town is slightly smaller in scale and has more cultural landscapes.
The exterior construction of Dangkou Ancient Town has been basically completed. Now it is mainly in the stage of attracting investment and internal renovation. The basic appearance of the ancient town can be seen. The advantage of going now is that there are few tourists, so you can calm down and experience the atmosphere of the ancient town and appreciate the appearance of the ancient town. The disadvantage is that many historical sites and old buildings have not been marked and explained, and the various scenic spots are not open for visit, making it difficult for people to deeply appreciate their historical and cultural heritage. From Wuxi City to Dangkou Ancient Town, you can take bus No. 712 from the Central Station or the Railway Station to Xinqiao Station and get off directly at the entrance of the ancient town scenic area. The transportation is still relatively convenient, but it takes more time.
Since it was raining quite a bit and it was a weekday, there were very few people visiting the ancient town. Although it was a bit inconvenient due to the weather, I could take pictures without having to constantly dodge the crowd.
The ancient town is under restoration, with small bridges, flowing water and people's homes. There are buildings such as the Guandi Temple, which are not yet crowded with people. You can go there before the charge.
Dangkou Ancient Town is located in Ehu Town, southeast of Xishan District, Wuxi City, Jiangsu Province. It is adjacent to the Hongshan Yue Noble Tombs and Taibo Tomb in the west, and borders Suzhou and Changshu in the east. It covers an area of 20.68 hectares. It was named Dingshe in ancient times. It is said to be the hometown of Ding Lan, a filial son in the Eastern Han Dynasty. It was named because it is located in Edan Dangkou.
Dangkou Ancient Town is 25 kilometers away from the center of Wuxi City, and is located at the junction of Wuxi, Suzhou and Changshu. It is one of the five key historical and cultural blocks (famous towns) in Wuxi City, and was rated as a famous historical and cultural town in China in 2010. It enjoys the reputation of "Little Suzhou" and "Silver Dangkou". It is a national AAAA-level tourist attraction.
