Xijindu

Xijindu carries more than 1,300 years of historical relics since the Tang Dynasty. It is not only known as a "living history", but also a historical and cultural exposition area of Zhenjiang.
The ancient street is paved with old bluestone slabs, and on both sides are traditional houses and gables made of blue bricks, which show the vicissitudes of life. The "Zhaoguan Stone Pagoda" in the eastern section of the ancient street is the only remaining stone pagoda across the street in China, and tourists can pass under the pagoda.
After passing the Daidu Pavilion, you will see all kinds of shops on both sides, including teahouses, handicraft shops, and noodle shops. If you are hungry, you can try snacks such as Zhuangyuan Cake and Stinky Tofu, which are not expensive.

Xijindu in Zhenjiang is a successful combination of history and modernity. At the foot of Yuntai Mountain, you can see the British Consulate, Stone Pagoda, and Guanyin Cave, which are a thousand years old at a glance, giving people a feeling of tracing history. The locals here are warm and hospitable, the long fish noodles are delicious, and the knife fish and puffer fish are plump. Staying in Xiaogudu, away from the hustle and bustle, is beautiful!

Walking on the bluestone-paved road, looking at the traces of the old doors and windows of the shops on both sides, you can feel the vicissitudes of history. You should read the guide carefully before going there, and explore every historical engraving while walking. It is best to go there in the off-season, when there are fewer tourists, and then you can take a walk slowly, and maybe the commercial atmosphere will not be so prominent. The day we went there was a winter day when a cold wave hit, and the weather was wet and cold. The snow from the previous day was melting, and the melted snow water would drip from the eaves and drip onto our bodies and heads when we entered each store. It was also the Spring Festival, and there were many tourists, which disturbed the elegance and peace of mind of looking for historical traces. We walked around hastily and left. I left a lot of regrets, and I hope to have the opportunity to come again in the future.

In December 2018, I went to Zhenjiang from Nanjing. I am not unfamiliar with Zhenjiang. I went to college in Zhenjiang for three years. Xijin Ancient Ferry is much more developed than when I was in college. The night view is very beautiful with lanterns. We took the bus after visiting Jinshan Temple. It is very close. Xijin Ferry should be the most popular check-in place in Zhenjiang👍. The key is that it is free. If you go there during the day, you can also visit the Zhenjiang Museum, which is right next to Xijin Ancient Ferry. I will take my cute pets Xiaoma and Xiaofeng with me wherever I go in the future💞

[I arrived at Xijindu at about 10 o'clock. I originally planned to come here to eat pot-covered noodles and get two bottles of vinegar to eat on the way. I walked around Xijindu for a few times but didn't see any so I gave up. However, I could really smell the aroma of vinegar when I entered the suburbs of Zhenjiang. I guess I walked around Xijindu for more than 2 hours before leaving for Nanjing.

Xijin Ferry (English: Xijin ferry), a national AAAA-level tourist attraction, is located at the foot of Yuntai Mountain in the west of Zhenjiang City. It is a historical site built on the Poshan plank road.

Xijindu Ancient Street is the area with the most, most concentrated and best-preserved cultural relics and historical sites in Zhenjiang, and is the "cultural vein" of Zhenjiang, a famous historical and cultural city. There are 12 cultural relics protection sites here, including 3 national-level Xijindu cultural relics protection sites and 38 provincial-level cultural relics protection sites.

There is a world of difference between Xijindu in the daytime and the night with all the lights and nightlife. In the early morning, the small vendors haven't opened yet, the large number of tourists haven't arrived yet, the streets haven't woken up yet, and there are only a few pedestrians. At this time, you can really feel the ancient atmosphere.

After two or three hours, only a bustling commercial street remained, and the goods sold were mostly from Yiwu Small Commodity Wholesale Market.

At eleven o'clock, the ancient street was already crowded with tourists.

By Salty and easy to color |

Xijindu was quiet and peaceful on off-season nights. It happened to be after the rain, and the stone pavement soaked by the rain was fresh and soft. There was no hustle and bustle of bars on the streets of popular ancient towns and streets. As soon as I walked in, the tangled threads in my mind were untied at once, and this comfortable feeling blew away the heavy fog in my heart.

Xijindu gave me a very pleasant feeling. First of all, this place is really rich in cultural connotations. The layout and architecture of the entire ferry can reflect its thousand-year history and its former prosperity. Secondly, this place is really comfortable, with few people! Not crowded! No African drums! ! ! There are not many places like this with convenient transportation and antique style that allow you to experience history! And you don’t have to follow the crowd!

It is really wonderful to watch Xijin Ferry from the hillside! Since the Six Dynasties, Xijin Ferry has become an important transportation fortress. Walking on the bluestone road today, although there is no bustling scene of the past, the old street has a more transparent and tranquil atmosphere of the years.

By 說時依舊 |

If you can only visit one place in Zhenjiang, I would definitely recommend Xijindu! This is not a commercialized antique street, but a real "time tunnel" from the Tang and Song dynasties to the present, with stone pavements, blue brick walls, old locust trees, and even the air is filled with the breath of history~

‌🌟 Reasons to check in‌

‌A thousand years at a glance, a layered "open-air museum"‌

The ancient monuments of the Tang, Song, Yuan, Ming and Qing dynasties are all crowded on this 1 km slope! Must see 👉🏻

📸 ‌Zhaoguan Stone Pagoda‌: A Lama pagoda across the street from the Yuan Dynasty, the only one in the country. Standing under the pagoda and taking photos from above is super shocking!

📸 ‌Former site of the British Consulate‌: red brick arcade + green lawn, pretending to be a retro blockbuster scene in London!

📸 Take a look at the thousand-year-old glass plank road: the ruins of the ferry crossing from the Tang Dynasty are right under your feet, giving you a sense of time travel!

‌Less people, more beautiful scenery, a sense of relaxation away from the crowd‌

Compared with other ancient towns, the commercialization here is just right - teahouses and cultural and creative shops are hidden in the old houses and are not conspicuous. In the afternoon, you can bask in the sun at the "Daidu Pavilion" or go into the "Guangzhao Public Office" to listen to a Pingtan. Time is so slow that you can pinch water out of it~

‌Hidden tricks that only locals know‌

🕗 Come at 7 o'clock in the morning: the stone road in the mist is glowing green, and I occasionally meet an old man walking his bird, it's full of the atmosphere of fireworks!

🌧️ It’s even more amazing on rainy days: the smell of moss mixed with rain, walking through Lifesaving Club Alley with an umbrella, it instantly turns into Dai Wangshu’s "Rainy Alley"!

🌙 Don’t miss the night tour: when the lanterns are lit, the whole street looks like it’s been enchanted. There are occasional open-air opera performances at the Shangqing Stage!

‌🍜 Foodie Radar‌

Zhenjiang Pot Cover Noodles: Look for Li Sao Noodle House (filmed by CCTV), the combination of the three wonders (noodles + marinated meat + vinegar) is perfect!

Creative dishes from Jiangsu and Zhejiang: The second daughter of the Zhou family must order the fried rice cake with crab roe in June. The soft and glutinous rice cake is wrapped in crab roe, and it is so fragrant that you will even lick the plate!

‌Literary Coffee‌: ‌Du·Café‌’s osmanthus latte with a Republic of China-style terrace. When I posted it on WeChat Moments, people asked for my address!

‌💡 Useful tips‌

🎫 ‌Tickets‌: The ancient street is free! However, the combined ticket for small attractions such as the British Consulate and Guanyin Cave is 30 yuan (half price for students)

🚶 ‌Route‌: Walk up from the Waiting Pavilion, the more you walk, the more surprises you will find. Wear comfortable shoes! Warning: the cobblestone road may hurt your feet⚠️

🚗 ‌Transportation‌: It takes 10 minutes by taxi from Zhenjiang Station. If you drive, follow the navigation to "Xijindu Parking Lot"

❌ ‌Avoidance‌: The Internet celebrity bamboo tube milk tea is OK for taking photos, but the taste is average. It is better to drink the time-honored Zhenjiang brand ‌Hengshun vinegar drink‌ (curious but addictive)

‌Summary:‌ This place is not as crowded as Wuzhen, but has the elegance of Suzhou + the heaviness of Xi'an. It is suitable for you who want to avoid the crowds and slowly chew on history. Remember to bring an empty stomach and 256G mobile phone memory! 📸✨

(👀 Whisper: Go to the top of Yuntai Pavilion in the evening to overlook the whole ancient street, the lights are on, it is so beautiful that I am speechless!)

Xijindu Ancient Street is about 1,000 meters long. It was first formed in the Six Dynasties period. After the development of five dynasties, namely Tang, Song, Yuan, Ming and Qing, it has formed its current scale. It has bluestone streets since the Tang and Song Dynasties, stone towers in the Yuan Dynasty, and pavilions in the late Qing Dynasty. It is the area with the most, most concentrated and best-preserved cultural relics and historical sites in Zhenjiang. It fully reflects the historical and cultural layers of four different eras, namely Jindu culture, concession culture, Republic of China culture and industrial culture. It shows the personality of Zhenjiang and reflects the development of Zhenjiang. It is the most concentrated embodiment of Zhenjiang's urban cultural characteristics and the "cultural context" of Zhenjiang's historical and cultural city. Xijindu is the oldest, largest and best-preserved ferry historical and cultural block in my country. It is known as the "China Ancient Ferry Museum".

This national AAAA-level tourist attraction is the historical district with the most preserved, most concentrated and best-preserved historical sites in Zhenjiang. In ancient times, Li Bai, Meng Haoran, Zhang Hu, Wang Anshi, Su Shi, Mi Fu, Lu You, Marco Polo and others had waited for ships or disembarked here, and left behind many poems that have been passed down to later generations.

The Xijindu Ancient Street District is built around Yuntaishan. Except for the street district on the north side of Yuntaishan, other areas seem to be under relocation and reconstruction. If you have enough time, you may want to take a tour around Yuntaishan. Many buildings from the late Qing Dynasty and the Republic of China are very distinctive.

Went there on 3rd October 2015.

Xijindu is an old ferry in Zhenjiang. The famous "Anchoring at Guazhou" in ancient times was located in the Xijindu area... After the defeat in the Second Opium War, the Qing government signed the "Treaty of Tianjin" with the imperialist powers. Zhenjiang was therefore officially opened as a port in April 1861. Foreign colonial forces also began to infiltrate the hinterland of Zhenjiang mainly from Xijindu.

Therefore, this place brings together the historical features of ancient Guazhou and modern Zhenjiang. The unique Zhaoguan Stone Pagoda and the cart tracks on the slope stone slabs are silently telling the story of this city that prospered because of the ferry.

This is the most popular scenic spot in Zhenjiang, crowded with tourists, just like the bustling ferry crossing in the past.

By the way, the entrance to the scenic area on the city side used to have a name, “Fifty-three Slopes”. My grandmother told me that this used to be the “place where people were shot” (execution ground), but now apart from the 53 steps, there is no trace of an execution ground at all.

Xijin Ferry, located at the foot of Yuntai Mountain in the west of Zhenjiang City, is a historical site built on the Poshan plank road. It is the area with the most, most concentrated and best-preserved cultural relics and historical sites in Zhenjiang. It is the cultural context of Zhenjiang's historical and cultural city and is now a national AAAA-level tourist attraction. In ancient times, Xijin Ferry was the only ferry from Zhenjiang to Jiangbei. It had an extremely important strategic position and has been a battleground for military strategists since the Three Kingdoms period. When Lu You passed by Xijin Ferry, he was amazed at the thousands of soldiers transported by the ferry every day. The poem written by Yu Shuzi, a poet in the Qing Dynasty, further describes the busy scene of people coming and going at Xijin Ferry: "Grain ships leave Xijin one after another, and a piece of flags and sails illuminate the waterside. The steady ferry flows into Guakou, and the flying chapters and the post stations play the Fengchen."

By Grace the Mouse |

If there are six stars, it is definitely worthy of it. Although it is somewhat commercialized, the historical style is still well preserved. Whether it is the streets, stone towers or pavilions, if there were not two or three tourists passing by, it would really feel like traveling through time. There are three attractions that charge fees, but it doesn't matter if you don't go. The free ones are very good to visit and you can't stop taking pictures. There is also a small hill in the scenic area. If you are physically fit, you can climb it and then overlook the layers of buildings. It feels great. This place is also attractive to cat lovers. You can see cats everywhere, even if they don't really want to pay attention to you.

Xijin Ancient Ferry is located on the mountain and by the river, with beautiful scenery. Li Bai, Meng Haoran, Zhang Hu, Wang Anshi, Su Shi, Mi Fu, Lu You, Marco Polo and others have waited for boats or landed here, and left many poems that have been passed down to later generations. Xijin Ferry Ancient Street is about 1,000 meters long. It was first established in the Six Dynasties period and has been built through the Tang, Song, Yuan, Ming and Qing dynasties to its current size. Therefore, the entire street is full of historical traces from the Six Dynasties to the Qing Dynasty.

Follow the stone steps to the ancient street. The site of the "Jingkou Lifesaving Society" founded in the 42nd year of Emperor Kangxi's reign is the most complete Chinese salvaged cultural relic preserved in China so far. The historical and cultural street of Xijindu integrates commerce with history and culture. Walking slowly along the path paved with bluestone slabs, looking at the mottled brick walls on both sides, you can feel the former prosperity of Xijindu. Take a walk here. There are many historical sites, including the former British Consulate, Guanyin Cave, Yuntai Pavilion, and the stage, which can fully meet your desire to explore the past and seek history. Xijindu is definitely worth a visit. There is a scenic spot called "Seeing a Thousand Years at a Glance", which preserves the stone steps of various dynasties in history. Looking at the ancient road, a thousand years of history is right in front of you.

The advancement of science and technology, the development of society, and the change of environment have gradually weakened the function of Xijindu as a ferry, but its fossil-like appearance has been basically preserved. At the same time, it is also a good place for young people to have a nightlife, with various Internet-famous restaurants, bars, and dessert shops. The combination of history and modernity makes this a must-visit place in Zhenjiang.

Xijindu is not a big place, so it is not recommended to stay here, as it is quite expensive. The transportation is very convenient, and it is more cost-effective to stay in other places to visit here.

Xijin Ferry. I don't like the shops and inns along the Yangtze River, but the stone paths and brick walls on the small streets of Xijin are what I like. At the foot of Yuntai Mountain, there are bluestone paths and old brick and wood houses. In the middle of the street is the Zhaoguan Stone Pagoda from the Yuan Dynasty, and in the east of the street is the site of the modern British Consulate. The three wonders of Zhenjiang are indispensable: braised pork, fragrant vinegar, and pot-covered noodles. They taste really good.

By fincen |

The ancient streets of Zhenjiang are very distinctive. Compared with Yangzhou Dongguan Street and the like, it has not only food but also historical buildings. Moreover, Xijindu is built on a mountain, so you can go to the top of the mountain to see the scenery. It is not far from the railway station. It is a good historical and cultural ancient street.

By A Hao can't get fat |

This is a free but famous scenic spot in Zhenjiang. Wang Anshi started from here and went to Yangzhou. He wrote the poem at the Guazhou Ferry across the Yangtze River. The Zhenjiang Museum is also next to it.

Xijindu has been a famous Yangtze River ferry since the Three Kingdoms period. Today, it still retains historical and cultural relics from the Tang Dynasty, such as the "Lifesaving Society", the site of the world's earliest river rescue organization, and the "Zhaoguan Stone Pagoda", the only well-preserved Lama pagoda across the street in the country. Of course, like many ancient streets across the country, if you want to take good photos, it is best to go early in the morning. There are not many people on the street, and walking on the bluestone road is still quite a feeling. If you go at noon or in the afternoon, the commercial atmosphere may be stronger.

By mmmMi_ |

The house is very distinctive and has a sense of age. When we first saw it on the road, it seemed that there were not many tourists. But when we entered the hotel, we found that there were quite a lot of people. Moreover, many restaurants closed for customers at 1:00 or 1:30 in the afternoon, so we could only find a random restaurant to eat pot-covered noodles. We finally felt 80% full at Xijinhui in the evening.

Like other ancient towns in China, this place is full of shops. It is not far from Jinshan Temple. There are multiple parking lots. The ancient town is relatively clean. The three wonders of Zhenjiang are to eat. The pot cover noodles and salted meat are delicious. The rest are just for walking around. There is nothing special. I came here just to eat. I didn't feel that there were too many people in the street photography.

Xijindu is located in the west of Zhenjiang City. It is a thousand-year-old town. It is not far from Jinshan Temple. It is not large in area, but has 12 scenic spots. I went to Zhenjiang for a trip during the National Day holiday. The next day I went to the Xijindu Scenic Area. I bought a combined ticket for the scenic spots online. The three small scenic spots cost 16 yuan, which is quite affordable. You can take bus No. 8 directly from the hotel you are staying to Xijindu. After getting off the bus, you will pass the underground passage to the entrance of the scenic spot. I changed the ticket at the service center and started to play. I went to Yuntai Pavilion first. It is the highest point in the north of Yuntai Mountain. It is quite conspicuous. You can see the changes of Zhenjiang City from ancient times to the present. It is quite good. After getting off Yuntai Pavilion, I walked to the ancient street. The outer section is newly built with many shops. Walking inside is the real old street, which is well preserved. There are also small attractions such as Shaoguan Stone Pagoda, Guanyin Cave, Lifesaving Society, etc. You can spend half a day here. I feel that it is more fun than Sanshan Scenic Area, and you can come here to visit even if you don’t want to spend money. It is highly recommended.

Xijindu carries more than 1,300 years of historical relics since the Tang Dynasty. It is not only called a "living history", but also a historical and cultural exposition area in Zhenjiang. It is a must-see attraction in Zhenjiang. The ancient street is paved with old bluestone slabs, with brick and wood structures on both sides, and the window railings with flying eaves and carvings are all painted in vermilion, giving people a feeling of "flying pavilions and flowing red", which is very vicissitudes. The "Zhaoguan Stone Pagoda" in the eastern section of the ancient street is the only remaining stone pagoda across the street in China, and tourists can pass under the tower. Without this layer of historical meaning, the shops on Xijindu are not much different from the ancient streets in other places I have visited before.

By Rafael |

After visiting so many ancient street attractions, this one is a bit special.

It is not like the Jiangnan water town of Qilishantang, nor like the typical Hui style of Tunxi Old Street. Of course, apart from pot-covered noodles, there are no other special foods.

The unique sense of history will still be very good, especially now that the replica building and historical relics are perfectly integrated, it’s great!

Since ancient times, Zhenjiang has been an important water transport town and a transportation hub, and Xijindu is a famous ferry crossing on the Yangtze River with an extremely important strategic position. It has been a battleground for military strategists since the Three Kingdoms period.

Xijin Ancient Ferry was built on the foot of the mountain, facing the river and enjoying a beautiful scenery. Wang Anshi once took a boat to the north at Xijin Ferry. When he passed Guazhou, he left behind the classic poem "The spring breeze has greened the south bank of the river again, when will the bright moon shine on me again?"

Xijindu was very lively at night, but the Duoke Inn where we were staying was a little hard to find and it took some effort.

Xijindu is not big, so you don’t need to consider the location too much when booking accommodation, as long as it is within 100 or 200 meters of the ancient street.

By Xiaochun Zhenzhen |

The buildings in Xijindu Ancient Street are basically all made of gray bricks, and the overall style is simple and elegant. Because it is an ancient street rather than an ancient town, the area is very small. If you don't consider the time for meals, you can walk through it in less than an hour. In addition to the main road in the ancient town, the other branch roads are very deserted and sparsely populated, making them suitable for a leisurely stroll.

There are not many shops in Xijindu Ancient Street. What is commendable is that the shops in Xijindu are not as homogeneous as those in other over-commercialized ancient towns. They have retained some local characteristics, such as Zhenjiang pot-cover noodles. You can find a noodle shop every few dozen meters in the ancient street.

It was a weekend afternoon. It felt noisy when there were a lot of people, but it felt strange when there were too few people... It was like I was in a fake scenic spot orz.

By Western pepper |

Unlike other commercial streets in ancient cities, Xijindu has not undergone much development. Except for a few sparsely populated small businesses, the ubiquitous Jiangnan specialty stores and snack takeaways are nowhere to be seen. The whole street still retains its simple flavor. In the early morning, local citizens still come to worship devoutly at the Guanyin Cave. In April, the century-old purple paulownia trees will rustle in the wind, and the rich fragrance will fall on the stone slabs along with clusters of furry flowers. The chirping of cicadas and birds in the ears will make people forget the mundane world.

By Climbing the Ping River |

There are many alleys and houses here, with blue bricks and black tiles, full of ancient style. The shiny bluestone slabs have been lying here for who knows how many years, welcoming and seeing off passers-by day after day. Stores on both sides of the street are open one after another, leisurely, and the things sold inside are nothing more than some small items and souvenirs.

By Let go |

Every civilization depends on water. With water, people can survive and with water, things can circulate.

Xijin Ancient Ferry, due to its superior geographical location, has become a transportation node thousands of years ago. It was once a glorious place for business and travel. To borrow from Mr. Fan's article: Migrants and poets often meet here, and their feelings about viewing things are different? The stratigraphic sites of various ages discovered by archaeology also show the prosperity of thousands of years to the viewer. Walking here, you will also become a passer-by of the ancient ferry with a thousand-year history. With the changes in the Yangtze River channel, this place is no longer dependent on the water, and the ancient ferry is only a textual memory in the classics.

The ancient ferry was built very well, and the existing historical relics were well planned within it. The only thing lacking is the choice of business operators. If it were all turned into a square street, it would be meaningless.

An ancient street with mottled brick walls ~ full of historical vicissitudes. I went to the Zhenjiang Museum because I have been following Story of Yanxi Palace recently. Seeing the porcelain exhibition gave me a feeling of dialogue between time and space. There were really few people on the street. The deserted feeling of the small shop made me feel incredible ~ The pot cover noodles were so-so, not very delicious, maybe they were not authentic enough

There are some small paid attractions inside, but it was too hot and we just wanted to take a quick look and leave.

Xijindu is a bit like Ciqikou

By Bossa Nova |

It's better than expected, mainly because the building is very distinctive. Maybe some people have built it very newly. Anyway, if you have been to Zhaojialou, Qibao Old Street, and Qintong Ancient Town, you will think this is still very good.

The commercialization of the ancient town is a bit serious. The houses are similar in style. From a high place, you can see the Yangtze River and Yangzhou in the distance.

By Heisenberg |

Facing the river and backed by mountains, it is entirely made of brick and stone and looks very imposing. It houses both the Chinese-style Zhaoguan Stone Pagoda and the Western-style consulate. It is different from other antique blocks and has distinct characteristics.

By Sligo's Old Dreams |

A place where humanity and nature interact. This is my second visit. Like many old towns and streets in other places, it is highly commercialized. There are many people under the scorching sun in early summer. The architectural style is very obvious. It is not tiring to climb to the top of the mountain, but the view is only average.

Zhenjiang is an exquisite city. It is not as prosperous as southern Jiangsu and Jinling, nor as well-known as Yangzhou. However, Xijindu is a pedestrian street with a lot of atmosphere. Part of it is built on the hillside. There are several pot-covered noodles there, which are delicious.

Take a stroll and you will see the well-arranged two-story buildings, the eaves of the pavilions, the carved window frames, the mottled counters, and the fir-wood ten-board doors, which tell the vicissitudes of "a thousand-year-old ferry and a thousand-year-old street". Xijindu feels much better than Dongguan Street, with a heavy sense of history. Walk past the Fifty-three, the Waiting for the Ferry Pavilion, a Thousand Years, the Lifesaving Association, the Zhaoguan Stone Pagoda... and feel the ferry culture, religious culture, and folk house culture.

Stayed at Yashi Hotel, the conditions are good, the service is good, and the breakfast is also very good. Xijindu, I fell in love with this quaint and elegant place at first sight. In the evening, there is no noise of the crowd during the day. It seems that there is a kind of power that makes people quiet. The tranquility of the ancient ferry culture has continued to this day. The ancient streets, the thousand-year-old bluestone road, the old buildings on both sides of the street with deep historical marks, and the shop owners who speak dialects, make people imagine what the customs and customs here were like thousands of years ago.

By Walking porker |

It was raining when I went there, which gave it a special flavor, a Jiangnan-style feeling in the mist. There is a commercial street and the old British Consulate, and it is close to the mountain, so the view from the top is also great.

By Biaobiao |

The ancient street is located at the foot of Yuntai Mountain, and across the street is the Yangtze River. It is surrounded by mountains and rivers, with bluestone streets, blue bricks and tiles, and antique style. Not only can you stroll around the ancient street here, but friends with good physical strength can also climb the mountain to overlook the beautiful Yangtze River and the beautiful city. There are also museums and art galleries around it. It is an ancient street with rich connotations. The only problem is that the cost performance of accommodation and catering is not high.

By China-TravelNote users |

It has a sense of history. It's fun to walk around the streets. You can pet the cats and dogs in the bar. The hill behind is not high and you can climb it.

The attitude of the waiters in this post office is extremely bad. I don't know if it is a public company. Their quality is low. I give a bad review!

Because it was New Year, I was lucky enough to see the Lantern Festival at Xijindu

Beyond expectations! Walking in the ancient streets in early April, maybe because Zhenjiang is not a tourist-oriented city, or it was a weekday, there were few people in the streets. The spring breeze was blowing, the red flowers and green leaves were blooming, and listening to the sounds from the stage, slowing down to feel life, was very pleasant! What I hate most is the bustling crowds in tourist attractions, which completely destroy the local scenery and customs. The ancient alleys are not as purely commercial as I imagined. Bars, restaurants, and various small shops are all very petty bourgeoisie. There is a Boxian Park next to it, a very short hill. After climbing up, I overlooked the entire Xijindu area. Looking at the erection of the new city and the sedimentation of the old city, I still felt very much in my heart!

Xijindu is still worth a visit. People with different hobbies can find what they like here. The streets that gather old things and modern shops make you feel like traveling through time and space; the old buildings and old shops have attracted many young couples to take wedding photos here; the Zhaoguan Stone Pagoda and the former site of the British Consulate took us back to the past. There we found a private restaurant for lunch and tasted the Zhenjiang flavor and folk customs.

There are many places to walk, eat and shop. It's not far from the night.

By Turnip |

It's too commercialized and not very interesting. At most a medium rating

By On the Road |

The overall feeling is good. I ate a bowl of pot cover noodles there. It has a literary and fresh feeling. Suitable for taking pictures

Very good, very distinctive and diverse. I will go there again next time.

Every time I go back to Zhenjiang, I must go to this place. It is only 1km away from my husband's hometown. Xijindu has been well developed in recent years. Next to it is the Zhenjiang Museum, which is beautiful and elegant, and full of cultural atmosphere. During the Spring Festival, there is a lantern festival every year, which is very lively.

By Weiyang |

Unlike many artificial "ancient streets" developed for tourism development, the Jiangnan Ancient Ferry has an authentic and rich flavor, which is worth a visit for outsiders. It is free to visit Xijin Ferry, but tickets are required to visit Guanyin Cave, Lifesaving Club, and Yuntai Pavilion. In fact, you don't have to climb Yuntai Pavilion. The ancient street is located on the ups and downs of the hills, and you can see a lot of places.

There were many people visiting the Lantern Festival when I arrived at night. I was more interested in ancient buildings, so I didn't squeeze in the crowd of the Lantern Festival. Instead, I experienced another kind of beauty. The old street is completely different from the new street. There are many delicious foods on the old street, and the new street is full of larger stores. And walking on the old street in the morning is a different kind of quiet beauty, which feels very good. This is also the reason why I strongly recommend staying in the old street. Although the conditions are worse, it is worth it to experience the beauty of the early morning.

Because I had too much time on my way to Yangzhou, I passed through Zhenjiang, and there were too few places to go in Zhenjiang, so I went there for a walk. Every city has this kind of historical and cultural street to a greater or lesser extent. In my opinion, this one is quite big and worth a visit.

By Mu Fengxi |

The scenery of Xijin Ancient Ferry is unique in the rain. Standing quietly in a corner, looking at the rain hitting the withered lotus leaves, the sound of raindrops is loud, like big and small pearls falling on a jade plate. If a poet was here, it would probably be a great occasion to recite poems, and many famous lines would be left behind.

Walk past a very special building, the Zhaoguan Stone Pagoda.

This is a stone pagoda built in the Yuan Dynasty. There are the words "Zhaoguan" on both sides. It is the only well-preserved and oldest stone pagoda across the street in my country. In 2001, it won the UNESCO Asia-Pacific Cultural Heritage Conservation Outstanding Project Award.

I went there at night. It felt like a commercial district made from the restored ancient streets, similar to Nanjing 1912.

By Bai Xubo |

There is an ancient street block along the hillside. The streets and buildings are full of vitality. When I went there in 2011, it had just been restored and was very quiet. I don’t know how it is now.

By Little Horse Travels Across the World |

Xijindu was formed in Zhenjiang during the Tang Dynasty. The British Consulate left over from the Qing Dynasty is now the site of the Zhenjiang Museum. When I first went to Xijindu in 2011, there was little commercial atmosphere there. There were only greetings between residents in the alleys and smoke from cooking at mealtimes. Some houses were also a bit dilapidated. However, the stone pagoda that marks the crossing of the street on the ancient street has remained in its original appearance for hundreds of years. Tibetan Buddhism does not cross the river, and the Zhaoguan Stone Pagoda is the only Tibetan Buddhist pagoda in Jiangnan. It is also one of the four Buddhist pagodas. There is also a Guanyin Pavilion in the ancient street, located in the grotto, adjacent to the Taoist Tianzhu Palace. But I have never been in to see it. The Yangtze River is no longer as wide as before, and Xijindu is no longer a ferry crossing the Yangtze River. It is now a long distance from the Yangtze River. The remains of the ancient street are left for future generations. In recent years, the commercial atmosphere of Xijindu has become increasingly strong, with many shops and a large number of newly built antique buildings. Perhaps this is the result of the integration of modern and ancient cultures. There will be a HIFI music festival on weekends from April to August every year. This ancient street has become lively again compared to the ancient wharf.

The scenery is quite good. The ancient town and the houses of the 21st century form a sharp contrast. "Seeing a thousand years at a glance" makes one sigh at the rapid development of today's society.

It was like a time travel, by the Yangtze River. The night was hazy, the crescent moon hung high in the sky, and it seemed like it was just yesterday.
