The Yangzhou Eight Eccentrics Memorial Hall is located in the southeast of Slender West Lake. It was transformed from the Xifang Temple where Jin Nong, one of the Yangzhou Eight Eccentrics, lived in his later years.
The Eight Eccentrics of Yangzhou refers to a group of painters with innovative spirit in Yangzhou during the Qing Dynasty. There are different opinions on which eight painters the Eight Eccentrics refer to. According to various writings, there were at least fifteen of them in total, so "eight" can be seen as a numeral or an approximate number.
The Great Hall is now the main exhibition hall of the memorial. Remember to look up. The beautiful paintings on the beams are mostly relics from the Ming Dynasty. In the middle of the hall stands a statue of the Eight Eccentrics of Yangzhou, surrounded by exhibitions, but most of the paintings and calligraphy are imitations.

The Yangzhou Eight Eccentrics Memorial Hall has a strong cultural atmosphere and is worth a closer look. The environment is quiet and beautiful, and there are many stone tablets with poems and rich content.
It's not worth seeing, just a brief introduction to the Eight Eccentrics, and it's very short. Their calligraphy and paintings are pitifully few, and the only thing I know is that I know Jin Nong. There are more paintings and calligraphy by modern people like the president of something. "There is no Buddha or monk, only a lamp in the empty hall"
The memorial hall was built using the ancient buildings of Xifang Temple, where Jin Nong, one of the "Eight Eccentrics of Yangzhou", once lived. After lingering in Jin Nong's small courtyard for a long time, the wind blew, the leaves fluttered, and the fragrance of osmanthus filled the garden, but it still couldn't cover up the deep desolate atmosphere of the courtyard. "There is no Buddha or monk, only a lamp in the empty hall. I drink the wine from Jingkou, and kill the vines in Shanzhong with my book. My dreams are all fulfilled now, but I can't flatter people anymore. What is he thinking about here? Cranes on the pond peek at the ice." From then on, my impression of the Eight Eccentrics of Yangzhou added the elegant and noble Jin Nong.
Although they are called the Eight Eccentrics, Zheng Banqiao is probably the most famous, while Jin Nong and Huang Shen are a little more famous, and the others are indeed not well known. The exhibition focuses on their life stories.
Friends who are interested in calligraphy and painting can go and have a look. The locust tree is in the alley outside the ticket office.
There is a calligraphy and painting exhibition inside, you can be inspired~~~~
There are few tourists visiting the Eight Eccentrics of Yangzhou, and the ticket seller will only give you a ticket at the ticket check. It should be noted that the Eight Eccentrics of Yangzhou are not just eight people, and there are different historical accounts. Eight can also be regarded as an approximate number. The Eight Eccentrics of Yangzhou Memorial Hall does not refer to eight people. The "Eight Eccentrics of Yangzhou" are a group of painters active in the Yangzhou area in the middle of the Qing Dynasty. They have distinct artistic personalities and strange styles, especially Zheng Xie and Jin Nong.
This place is not big, but I have been there many times and I like it very much. Because no matter when you go, there are not many people inside, it is very quiet, which makes me feel at ease. There is an old tree inside, which is very big, and you can feel the passage of time.
The Eight Eccentrics Memorial Hall is located in the Xifang Temple, the former residence of Jin Nong. The exhibition hall displays the calligraphy and paintings of the "Eight Eccentrics" for tourists to appreciate. A restoration of Jin Nong's room is also set up to display the historical atmosphere of the "Eight Eccentrics" calligraphy and painting creation life. The "Eight Eccentrics of Yangzhou" are a group of innovative painters active in the Yangzhou painting world in the Qing Dynasty. Their works of art with new ideas, new compositions and new techniques created a new generation of painting styles and made immortal contributions to the development of Chinese calligraphy and painting art.
The few years I spent in college in Yangzhou left me with too many joys and sorrows. This city has left me with too many memories. Only I can understand the feeling.
It is not recommended to go alone. It is very close to Slender West Lake, so you can just stop by and take a look.
If you happen to walk by, go in and take a look! Just after entering, a kid stopped me and asked me to buy a ticket! It turns out it’s not free! 25 each! The place is not big, quiet and cozy!
There is a calligraphy and painting exhibition. The space is not big, and you can finish the tour in half an hour.
Personally, I feel it’s just average. If you are interested in the Eight Eccentrics of Yangzhou, you might want to take a look.
The Yangzhou Eight Eccentrics Memorial Hall is in an alley in the city center. I spent 20 yuan to take a Yangzhou local electric tricycle from He Garden to get there. The ticket price is 25 yuan during the peak season, and the price of hiring a tour guide is 50 yuan. I was lucky that a group of tourists in front hired a tour guide to listen to it. The scenic area is not big, and there are very few people. The scenic area consists of the Nanmu Hall Yangzhou Eight Eccentrics Memorial Hall, Jin Nong's former residence, and the calligraphy and painting exhibition hall. The so-called Yangzhou Eight Eccentrics are actually not 8 people, but a collective name for 15 local calligraphy and painting artists in Yangzhou during the Kangxi, Yongzheng, and Qianlong periods of the Qing Dynasty. Because they advocated innovation and innovation, they were excluded by the mainstream culture at the time. These people can only be attached to the mountains and rivers and enjoy the real happiness of art. Behind the main hall, there is a magnolia tree with an age of more than 100 years. The magnolia is the city flower of Yangzhou. It blooms in the third month of the lunar calendar (April of the solar calendar) every year, so there is a saying that fireworks go down to Yangzhou in March. Since the memorial hall was rebuilt from Xifang Temple, you can go and see the stone carvings and stele art on the walls on both sides after appreciating the calligraphy and paintings of the Eight Eccentrics. Opposite the entrance of the main hall is the calligraphy of "Singing and Blowing Ancient Yangzhou" written by Zheng Banqiao. The word "blow" is particularly strange. Tourists may wish to take a look!
The "Yangzhou Eight Eccentrics Memorial Hall" is located in the "Western Temple" where Jin Nong once lived. The "Western Zen Temple" was granted by Emperor Taizong of Tang. Jin Nong was alone with a lamp, but he was a respectable person who "could not flatter others". He would never curry favor with the powerful, but would rather "be like a crane on a pond looking at ice" - maintaining his elegance and purity.
Along the way, we passed the Yangzhou Eight Eccentrics Memorial Hall, which is here. As for the inside, they said there is no need to go in, there is nothing inside, and they still charge an entrance fee. Uh, okay~~
The Yangzhou Eight Eccentrics Memorial Hall is located in the Xifang Temple, the former residence of Jin Nong. The exhibition hall displays the calligraphy and paintings of the "Eight Eccentrics" for tourists to appreciate. In fact, I still don't know which eight eccentrics they are. The ticket is 25 yuan. We were in a hurry, so we didn't go in. We just took a photo at the door and left. What a pity...
I passed by Yangzhou, so I drove through the city and accidentally discovered the "Yangzhou Eight Eccentrics Memorial Hall", which was not far from the intersection of "Wenchang Pavilion", so I stopped the car and took a picture.
We took the bullet train to Zhenjiang and took a taxi directly from the train station to the booked hotel. After resting, I took my parents for a walk around the area. We went out and turned east to the alley with the sign of the Eight Eccentrics Memorial Hall. After entering the alley, we visited the Tang Dynasty locust tree and walked deeper into the alley, which was the Eight Eccentrics Memorial Hall. Since we went there late, we didn't have to pay for admission. The magnolias were in full bloom and the ancient ginkgo trees were nearly one meter in diameter. The memorial hall also had a modern calligraphy and painting exhibition with the theme of teapots, which was very calming. See the picture above.
The "Yangzhou Eight Eccentrics Memorial Hall" was not planned, and it is also at the end of the old street of Dongguan Street. The memorial hall is small and exquisite, and there are not many people.
The Yangzhou Eight Eccentrics Memorial Hall was rebuilt from Xifang Temple. Jin Nong, one of the Yangzhou Eight Eccentrics, lived here in his later years, and his former residence has now been converted into a memorial hall.
The Memorial Hall of Eight Eccentrics of Yangzhou commemorates eight painters active in the Yangzhou painting world during the Qing Dynasty: Zheng Xie, Luo Ping, Huang Shen, Li Fangying, Gao Xiang, Jin Nong, Li Yu and Wang Shishen. It is a professional memorial hall dedicated to publicizing and promoting their artistic achievements.
The existing Nanmu Hall, an ancient building from the Ming Dynasty, is now the main exhibition hall, showing the customs and practices of Yangzhou in the 18th century, its convenient transportation, and its prosperous economy, which gave rise to the "Eight Eccentrics".
There is a Tang Dynasty locust tree in the middle of the alley where the memorial is located. There are no special protection measures and it is unknown how long it can survive.
Singing and singing about ancient Yangzhou, I was very yearning for this place before I went there. Maybe it was about to close when I went there, and it was dark everywhere. My companions didn’t feel it, and I just took a rough look and left.
When you go to Yangzhou, you must learn about the historical celebrities of Yangzhou, so we also visited the Yangzhou Eight Eccentrics Memorial Hall. In the Camel Bell Alley leading to the memorial hall, we came across the old locust tree in "A Dream of Nan Ke", with lush branches and leaves, and a canopy-like top. It is more than 1,200 years old. Maybe it is because our choice of this attraction is relatively niche, and compared with the bustling other places in Yangzhou, it seems sparsely populated. But this kind of old-time small garden can only let the viewer appreciate its unique charm when it is so quiet.
I rode my bike to the Yangzhou Eight Eccentrics Memorial Hall. There were still very few tourists here, but luckily, I met a tour guide who was explaining to five or six people. The representatives of the Yangzhou Eight Eccentrics were introduced one by one, and the explanations were meticulous. If there was a tour guide, this would be a place worth visiting, otherwise it would be a pity to visit here.
Although it is a temple, it feels more like a simple garden. Even Daming Temple has this feeling. In a garden city, nature is influenced by its environment.
Sit in Xifang Temple (Eight Eccentrics Memorial Hall). It is a place worth visiting. The temple is elegant and there are few tourists. But the content is rich. The introduction of the artistic style of the "Eight Ugly Eccentrics" is quite detailed. This well-known title is actually the evaluation of their artistic style by the art world and the world at that time. Not only ugly, but also weird. However, these alternatives who created a new artistic style at that time, their bold ugliness and unconventional weirdness, may have had a huge impact on later generations, which they themselves may not have thought of.
Tickets are 25 yuan, not expensive
The residence of Jin Nong, one of the Eight Eccentrics, is a very quiet place
The Eight Eccentrics Memorial Hall on the original site of Xifang Temple has a flying eaves Buddhist hall, bamboo and stone basins, and ancient apricot paths... The overall feeling is quite good...
