He Garden, located at No. 66, Xuningmen Street, Yangzhou City, Jiangsu Province, also known as "Jixiao Villa", is a Chinese classical garden building built in the middle of the Qing Dynasty. It is known as the "No. 1 Garden in the Late Qing Dynasty". It covers an area of more than 14,000 square meters and a construction area of more than 7,000 square meters. He Garden was built by He Zhifu during the Guangxu period of the Qing Dynasty. The Stone House is a masterpiece of Master Shitao.

The main feature of He Garden is that it fully utilizes the function and charm of corridor architecture. The 1,500-meter-long corridor is a rare landscape in Chinese gardens. The left and right diversions, the high and low connections, the mountains and water, the halls and rooms, form a full-dimensional three-dimensional landscape and all-weather sightseeing space, and give full play to the beauty of the looping changes and the wonder of the Chinese garden art. It is the earliest prototype of an overpass in China.

The arrangement of plants in the garden is also unique. There are plum blossoms, osmanthus, and white pine trees beside the half-moon platform, peonies and peonies at the northern foot of the mountain, red maples at the southern mountain, sycamores and ancient locust trees in front of the courtyard, banana trees beside the buildings, etc., which are arranged in accordance with the four seasons and change from morning to evening in a day.

The architectural layout of China's classical private gardens is different from the symmetrical concept of the central axis of foreign gardens. It adopts the natural method, and its pavilions and terraces are scattered irregularly among the mountains and rivers that are either artificial or formed according to the landform, creating an artistic conception of harmony between man and nature.

He Garden, also known as "Jixiao Mountain Villa", was named by the owner He Zhifu (pronounced "Dao") after the artistic conception of the two lines "Leaning on the south window to express pride" and "Climbing the east hill to let out a whistle" in Tao Yuanming's "Returning to the Countryside". The entire garden consists of the East Garden, the West Garden, the residential courtyard and the Pianshi Mountain House. When visiting, you enter from the East Gate and exit from the South Gate. One of the most famous attractions in He Garden is the double-story corridor. The "corridor", also known as the string building, is a covered corridor with upper and lower floors, connecting the East and West Gardens and the residential courtyards together; the "double-story" refers to the corridors on both sides of the wall, which can lead to different places and also play a diversion role. The double-story corridor of He Garden is more than 1,500 meters long. Walking along it feels like walking in a three-dimensional maze. Another famous attraction is the Shuixin Pavilion, which is the only remaining water stage among the ancient Chinese opera pavilions. The stacked stones of the Pianshi Mountain House are the only copy of Shi Tao, a master of painting and one of the Eight Eccentrics of Yangzhou.

He Garden, like Ge Garden, is a private garden. This family is still prosperous. The past Hanlin and today's academicians are all on the list. The open-mindedness of the family has allowed the children to go abroad and serve the motherland. The ancestors of the family set an example by studying hard. The young ladies and young men in the family have their own study rooms. The Western musical instrument in the young lady's study room, the piano, shows me the open-mindedness of this family to accept Western culture. This is vision, and this is also the best answer to why this family has survived to this day. The beauty of the architecture of He Garden cannot be ignored. It has the beauty of pavilions and waterside pavilions of southern gardens, but it suddenly has the charm of the West at a certain point, such as the fireplace and the tiles inlaid on the fireplace, the open room doors and windows, and the rare glass windows from the West... The combination of tradition and advancement has formed the unique temperament of He Garden.

The beauty of the garden comes more from the careful design of its designers and builders, which reflects the craftsmen's intentions everywhere. They are not only skilled, but also quite artistic. Every courtyard with garden attributes becomes a work of art in addition to its functionality. Compared with the uncanny workmanship of nature, the garden is the "ulterior motives" of the builders. When you swim to a very small courtyard, there is a pool of clear water surrounded by Taihu stones, which are common in gardens. Such a scene can be said to be commonplace in the setting of gardens. The instructions on the wall beside the pool say that a full moon can be seen in the pool. When you look back, you will find that on the calm and windless water surface, in the reflection of the Taihu stones, there is a bright moon shadow. The design of using the hollowing and light reflection of Taihu stones is amazing. The main features of He Garden also include the extensive use of corridor design and its functions throughout the building, which highlights its function of connecting in all directions while also being quite beautiful.

It's worth going, but the ticket is still a bit expensive, the ideal price is 20-30. It's not big but the structure is complicated, because it is divided into two floors, I walked back and forth a lot, and it took more than an hour to understand it. I think it's not as good as Geyuan, and because there are many houses and shadows, the effect of the photos is not as good as Geyuan, but it's still worth a visit.

Yangzhou gardens have always been famous. "Yangzhou Huafanglu" has a sentence that "Hangzhou is famous for its lakes and mountains, Suzhou is famous for its markets, and Yangzhou is famous for its gardens and pavilions. The three are in a three-way competition, and there is no difference between them." Among them, the most famous gardens are He Garden and Ge Garden. He Garden is a famous garden in the late Qing Dynasty. Its biggest feature is the "combination of Chinese and Western" architectural style, as well as the stone house in the garden. The rockery here is the only copy of the monk Shi Tao in the world. If you have enough time, it is recommended to visit both gardens. Even if you have visited Suzhou gardens, the gardens here have their own characteristics. I only had enough time to go to one place, so I chose He Garden, which I was more interested in.

He Garden is one of the larger gardens in Yangzhou. It was already past 3pm when we arrived in Yangzhou. It was a bit late and it was getting dark. There were not many people in the garden. I followed another group of people to listen to the guide. It was quite interesting. I have to say that the ancient man-made gardens really have many peculiarities and are quite thoughtful.

Among the more outstanding gardens in Yangzhou, the Ge Garden is the He Garden. If the Ge Garden reflects the elegance and taste of the wealthy Huaiyang salt merchants, then the He Garden reflects the tolerant atmosphere of a scholarly family.

The architecture of He Garden is obviously influenced by Western style. It has both traditional Chinese wooden structures and Western architectural techniques. There are many details that blend Chinese and Western styles, such as Chinese carved components and Western shutters and fireplaces. The corridors of He Garden are well connected, almost connecting all the buildings in the garden. It can be seen that the owner's ideas were very advanced and inclusive.

Unfortunately, when we went there, He Garden was undergoing partial repairs, and the Water Center Hall in the West Garden was surrounded by green cloth of scaffolding and could not be seen.

Interesting and meaningful details can be found everywhere. The framing techniques of garden design are really amazing.

There is also a big boss in He Garden, the legendary Pianshi Shanfang. Pianshi Shanfang is the garden within the garden of He Garden. It is said to be the only copy of the stone stacking by Shi Tao.

The introduction said it was breathtaking, saying that the stone walls, stone steps and mountain streams were the most amazing and reflected the culture of harmony between man and nature. But in the end we didn’t see any of them, and people were not allowed to walk in the rockery at all. . . . .

Then we could only look for designs that can be found from the outside. It is said that there is a "moon in the water" in Pianshi Mountain House, but at that time we didn't know what this moon specifically referred to. The three of us walked around the rockery for several times like idiots but couldn't find it. And for some reason, the signal in Pianshi Mountain House was so poor that we couldn't get on the network. In one word, it was miserable.

After I came back, I checked online and found that the so-called "moon in the water" is the light shining through the hole in the rockery, reflecting in the water, just like the reflection of the bright moon. I looked through the photos again and finally found it!!! It is the circle reflected in the water by a small hole in the rockery!!! Oh my god, we were still looking at it for almost half an hour and didn't find it, stupid! ! !

Yangzhou gardens are extremely famous. The "Yangzhou Huafanglu" once said, "Hangzhou is better than Suzhou in terms of lakes and mountains, better than Yangzhou in terms of markets, and better than Yangzhou in terms of gardens and pavilions. The three are in a tie and there is no difference between the two." In the Qing Dynasty, Yangzhou salt merchants were the richest in the world and built extremely luxurious gardens.

The emperor's southern tour and the exchanges between northern and southern garden craftsmen made Yangzhou's gardens both magnificent and tall like the northern royal gardens.

It also preserves the unique architectural pieces in the Jiangnan gardens.

There are four "No. 1 in the World" in He Garden: "No. 1 Corridor in the World", "No. 1 Mountain in the World", "No. 1 Window in the World" and "No. 1 Pavilion in the World".

He Garden was built by He Zhifu during the reign of Emperor Guangxu of the Qing Dynasty. The He family's living room and ancestral hall are still preserved here. The living room is decorated in a particularly gorgeous and exquisite manner, with a collection of many Western decorations. It is obvious at a glance that this is definitely a wealthy family.

The title of the First Garden of Late Qing Dynasty is not undeserved. After all, there are four firsts in this garden, and it is composed of several parts including the residential courtyard and the stone house in the southeast. The various parts are connected by corridors, which can be called the ancestor of the viaduct!

He Garden is a place where talented people emerge in large numbers. Our tour guide gave a very detailed introduction to the history. But to be honest, if there was no introduction, many of the houses would only be background boards with historical introductions on display. Only a part of the house on the second floor was used to restore the daily life of the owner at that time. I am more interested in these real objects!

It’s a pity that so many empty houses are not put to good use. Perhaps it’s better to protect the original state now, but I think if part of it can be used as a hotel, it would be a better feeling to stay here!

Before I really planned to go to Yangzhou, the only famous attraction I knew was the Slender West Lake. Little did I know that the gardens in Yangzhou are also first-class. He Garden, formerly known as "Jixiao Villa", is also known as the "No. 1 Garden in the Late Qing Dynasty". The founder is an official named He Zhifu. I thought that since I arrived early, there would not be many guests in the park, but I bumped into a colorful tour group of middle-aged women. Fortunately, there are not many tourists in the off-season, so I can still have a relatively comfortable visit. He Garden is indeed a garden of a wealthy family. The layout is exquisite but not without grandeur. One step at a time, a scene, it is so intoxicating. I especially like the interior furnishings of several rooms, Chinese or Western style, each with its own style, which should be able to reflect the aesthetics of their respective owners.

By Travel Lover |

The first garden in the late Qing Dynasty is worth a visit. The garden is not big, but I gained a lot. I learned the management strategy of the He family and I admired it. The scenery is also beautiful, and there are stories in every step. But it is better to have an explanation, otherwise I can't see it by myself. If there are many people, you can hire a guide. If there are few people, you can rent an interpreter for 20 yuan. The explanation is very detailed and basically consistent with the content of the guide.

#萱萱的旅行# After lunch, the group walked for a few minutes to the He Garden in Yangzhou, the first garden in the late Qing Dynasty. (Warm reminder: the parking lot opposite the restaurant costs 7 yuan a day.) Walking in the streets of Yangzhou, you can also feel the enthusiasm and down-to-earth folk customs of this city. The last time I came to Yangzhou, I didn’t have a baby, so I visited the Ge Garden. This time I brought my baby to He Garden. It is still a Jiangnan-style villa. Although it is the May Day holiday, tourists don’t seem to be particularly crowded. Don’t pay too much attention to the significance of culture and history when taking your baby to visit. Just be in it. What’s important is to feel and travel at a good pace.

It’s the first day of the Qingming Festival holiday. I drove all night to Yangzhou. I set the alarm for 7:30 in the morning, but I woke up naturally at six!

The air in Yangzhou in spring is very good. I went to Slender West Lake a long time ago, and this time I decided to check in at He Garden!

By Purple Lightning Blue Frost |

The overall feeling is much better than Geyuan, and the advantage is the multi-level corridors that extend in all directions, which is equivalent to walking twice on the ground platform, and the whole garden suddenly becomes three-dimensional. I really can't see what is good about Pianshi Shanfang. I think it is not much different from the rockery in Lion Grove and Huanxiu Villa. Geyuan is far inferior to those famous Ming Dynasty gardens in Suzhou.

By Dry Skiing |

I must recommend it. This is the first garden, and it is superior to the garden architecture in Suzhou and other places. The design is exquisite, and the residence and garden are integrated. It is magnificent.

By Sunrise and sunset |

The main reason is that after seeing the gardens in Suzhou, there is really no need to see the ones in other places. The gardens are not big, and the buildings and scenery are average. You can't understand them all just by watching the film. Don't criticize if you don't like it.

He Garden was the home of a former salt merchant. What is special about He Garden is the pavilion in the middle, which is said to be a former stage for opera, with natural surround sound. Another thing is that it is the first two-story garden I visited, which is also nice to walk around.

I always thought that He Garden was not as famous as Humble Administrator's Garden, and I didn't have high expectations. After entering He Garden, I found that it was more exquisite than Humble Administrator's Garden. The owner of this courtyard only lived here for 18 years after it was built, and then moved his family to Shanghai. He Garden was abandoned. At that time, Yangzhou was relatively poor, and no one could afford to buy He Garden and renovate it, so it was preserved and later became the current key protected scenic spot. It turns out that poverty is the first productive force for protecting cultural relics.

By Duan Yaoyao Furla |

The whole garden is not as lively as other gardens. It is more quiet and peaceful. The floor is covered with carpets, making it quiet to walk.

The sunset at 5 or 6 o'clock meets the small and exquisite He Garden. It is very pleasant to enjoy the quiet time at this moment.

He Garden is named after its owner (In the ninth year of the reign of Emperor Guangxu of the Qing Dynasty (1883), He Zhifu resigned from his post as the governor of Hubei Hanhuangdedao and the supervisor of Jianghan Customs and went to Yangzhou. He purchased the site of Wu's Pianshi Mountain House, later expanded it into a garden, and built Jixiao Villa in Yangzhou, which took 13 years.) He also made a smooth retreat after assessing the situation and spent decades of leisurely life in Yangzhou.

There are so many beautiful views in the garden, and you can see one everywhere you turn. Mr. He's aesthetic taste is really amazing. In addition, Huang Binhong lived here for 6 years as his guest (because Mr. He has a large collection of fine calligraphy and paintings), which adds more color to the garden.

He Garden is a typical Jiangnan garden. Pavilions, rockeries, ponds, and green plants show the beauty of Jiangnan. Here, white walls and loquats are in perfect harmony, and the colors of white, green, and yellow are full of vitality. He Garden is also a natural base for filming domestic TV series. Nearly 100 TV series such as the new version of "Dream of Red Mansions" and the sequel to "My Fair Princess" were filmed here. He Garden is really a surprise, a garden that combines Chinese and Western styles, and you can stroll around for a while. If you have time and avoid the crowds, you can take a lot of good photos.

Ticket price: 45 yuan/person, available at the self-service ticket machine at the entrance of the scenic spot.

There are cherry blossoms and peonies in full bloom in the garden...so beautiful~

He Garden is not very big, there are many tourists, plus the scorching sun, I was less interested, I just finished the tour like finishing my homework. I like the big mirror in the scenic spot, haha!

I personally don't recommend He Garden. Compared with the vibrant Ge Garden, He Garden looks dilapidated, and many places are under repair.

By Jazz Cheese_LuckyMOMO |

The first garden in the late Qing Dynasty, with both Chinese classical gardens and Western-style gardens

The traces of later repairs are not very heavy, and the characteristic is the 1.5-kilometer-long corridor on the second floor.

In order to appreciate the most authentic garden without having the beautiful scenery blocked by people, I chose to go to the gate of He Garden early in the morning to wait for it to open. My efforts paid off and I was finally the third one to enter after the opening, and experienced a visual feast like the owner of the garden.

There is a pavilion on a rockery in a corner of the garden, named Near the Moon, which fits the artistic conception very well. Standing in the pavilion, one can't help but imagine watching the moon here at night, which is definitely a different kind of fun.

He Garden has been used to film various TV series, including my favorite "Marrying the Wrong Man". During the tour, I found many scenes that appeared in TV series, such as the Water Center Pavilion and the Boat Hall. The Boat Hall is very interesting. It does not look like a boat, but in order to reflect the boat, various pebbles and tiles are laid on the ground next to it to form water ripples, giving people the artistic conception of living by water.

He Garden can be toured in 1 and a half hours.

It has the style of Jiangnan gardens. A ten-year dream in Yangzhou.

The living space has a distinction between inside and outside, is convenient for living and traveling, achieves harmony between man and nature, and combines Chinese and Western styles. The aesthetic needs and practical functions of Chinese private gardens are perfectly combined here.

A classical garden with a strong cultural atmosphere. If you like cultural landscapes, you can take a look.

Many of the buildings in He Garden incorporate Western architectural techniques, which can be described as a combination of Chinese and Western styles.

There are four "No. 1 in the world" hidden in He Garden. "No. 1 Corridor in the World" refers to the corridor of He Garden, and the flower windows on the corridor are called "No. 1 Window in the World". The shape is large and majestic, and the scenery changes as you walk around the corridor. It is a rare and exquisite flower window in the garden.

He Garden is nice and worth a leisurely visit. There is a long corridor about a thousand meters long, which shows the ingenious craftsmanship of the ancients!

He Garden is a typical Jiangnan garden.

Pavilions, towers, rockery, ponds and green plants fully display the beauty of the Jiangnan region.

Here, the white walls and loquats are in harmony, white, green and yellow, full of vitality.

The most distinctive feature of He Garden is probably the Pianshi Mountain House.

Here, Shi Tao has created a vast world out of the small courtyard.

There are pavilions, towers, mountains, water, flowers, grass, and even white-headed birds playing among them.

What a lively and natural garden world.

The old and young owners of the garden live in the Yuxiu Building in the south, which is a building that combines Chinese and Western styles. It not only adopts the traditional Chinese brick and wood structure, but also makes extensive use of French shutters, Japanese sliding doors, French fireplaces, and iron beds.

What attracts me most about Yangzhou is the ancient canal and Jixiao Villa.

Very beautiful, went there on Monday, few people, very quiet.

This place is very beautiful, with a combination of Chinese and Western architectural styles, which is breathtaking. It would be even more perfect if you find a tour guide to explain.

Very beautiful, it is worthy of being the first garden in the late Qing Dynasty. The main thing to see is the architecture, especially the details of the combination of Chinese and Western styles.

Tickets: 45 yuan

I heard that the combination of Chinese and Western styles is very good. It doesn't look as exquisite as the Suzhou Gardens. There are many rockeries in the garden. You can basically visit the entire garden by walking along the corridor. The structure is very well connected.

When I went there, the magnolias were in full bloom and everyone was looking for angles to take photos of the flowers.

The arrangement of plants in the garden is also unique. Plum blossoms, osmanthus, white pine, peonies and peonies on the northern foothills, red maples on the southern mountain, sycamores and ancient locust trees in front of the courtyard, banana trees beside the buildings, etc., are arranged in accordance with the four seasons and change from morning to evening in a day.

The architectural layout of classical private gardens, with pavilions and terraces scattered irregularly among the landscapes that are either artificial or formed according to the topography, takes the artistic conception of the unity of man and nature. Built in the ninth year of the reign of Emperor Guangxu of the Qing Dynasty (1883), the He Garden in Yangzhou not only has a deep understanding of the landscape realm of Chinese gardens, but also is familiar with the open layout and the network structure composed of various two-story corridors, with innovative concepts.

As the No. 1 garden in the late Qing Dynasty, He Garden can be reached directly by taking the Yangzhou sightseeing bus. The sightseeing bus is free to take in April, May, September and October. You can see the ticket window of He Garden when you get off the bus. It is said that He Garden has four No. 1 in the world: the flower window of the No. 1 window in the world, the corridor of the No. 1 corridor in the world, the water pavilion of the No. 1 pavilion in the world, and the stone house of the No. 1 mountain in the world. The corridor connects the whole garden, which is windproof and rainproof, and is an advanced architectural style. The flower window can directly see the master bedroom, which is also an advanced open-minded idea in that era. The design of each place in the garden is very exquisite, and the master's room is very delicate, which is worth a visit.

He Garden is even smaller than Ge Garden. If you just walk around it, it may take 20 minutes to finish. . .

However, the main feature of He Garden is that it fully utilizes the function and charm of corridor architecture. The 1,500-meter-long corridor is a rare landscape in Chinese gardens. This is the first time I have seen such a design.

He Garden is not big, an hour is enough.

He Garden is really great. It's a pleasant surprise. It's a combination of Chinese and Western gardens. It's quite big and you can walk around for a while. If you have time and avoid the crowds, you can take a lot of good photos. Especially when it's close to closing time, it's quiet and peaceful. There is also Shi Tao's "Qinqishuhua", which you can take a look at.

He Garden is worth a visit. It is quite large and the scenery is elegant. The owner has studied abroad, so the garden is a combination of Chinese and Western styles.

He Garden, located at No. 66 Xuningmen Street, Yangzhou City, Jiangsu Province, also known as "Jixiao Villa", is a Chinese classical garden building built in the middle of the Qing Dynasty and is known as the "No. 1 Garden in the Late Qing Dynasty".

He Garden is very beautiful, the rockery is really amazing, and the garden is exquisitely decorated everywhere, it is definitely worth a visit.

He Garden~~Shuixin Pavilion, corridor, stone house, various flower windows... It's pretty good and worth a visit

By Children from the stars |

The online ticket for He Garden is 24 RMB, which is not too big. Many people hire tour guides, and no one cares if you follow the tour. You can just listen casually. The tour takes about an hour, and it is quite interesting to listen to it.

The Shuixin Pavilion in He Garden is said to have been used in many TV series, including "Wan Jun", "Green Grass by the River", "Marrying the Wrong Man"... However, I didn't pay attention to it when I watched them.

He Garden is very close to the Lu Family Ancient House. You can reach it by walking for 10 minutes after having morning tea. For tickets, you can buy them directly on China-TravelNote. Ticket collection and issuance are very fast. You can also use your ID card, which is quite convenient.

The He Garden is very large, so it is recommended that you hire a tour guide to visit. The tour guide will explain to you the exquisiteness of this garden. Otherwise, you will not be able to see it all by yourself.

The He Garden is relatively small, with late Qing Dynasty architecture and a second-floor courtyard style. We finished the tour quickly, and there weren't many special features.

By Running Sister Pepper |

Walking westward for three to five minutes along the alley at the south gate of the Lu's ancient residence, you will arrive at the He Garden, the first garden in the late Qing Dynasty. There is a famous white magnolia, winding corridors, and Shi Tao's masterpiece of stacked stones, "Pianshi Shanfang".

By Jumping Raccoon |

There are all kinds of flowers in He Garden, including peonies, hydrangeas and cherry blossoms. Because the owner and his son are all knowledgeable and well-educated, the rooms in the house are decorated to look knowledgeable. Since it was the late Qing Dynasty, they were exposed to a lot of Western things. There are sketches and pianos in the girls' rooms. My favorite is a house built in the shape of a boat, and the floor is paved like water ripples. I admire the exquisite craftsmanship.
