The villa was built in 1903 by Lord Lannoz of England. It was transferred to Barry in 1922. Barry was a good friend of Soong May-ling and gave the house to Soong May-ling in 1934. Chiang Kai-shek saw that the environment here was quiet and beautiful, and Soong May-ling's name also had the word "Mei", so he named it "Meilu". The two words "Meilu" on the stone in the garden were written by Chiang Kai-shek.

The "Mei" here refers to "Song Meiling". Meilu is the villa built by Chiang Kai-shek for Song Meiling. It is also the only place in the country where the two leaders of the Kuomintang and the Communist Party live together. This is Song Meiling's favorite villa. The bathroom in Meilu is very interesting. According to the tour guide, there are two toilets in the bathroom. The standing type is used by Chiang Kai-shek, and the squatting type is used by Song Meiling. The refrigerator is also the earliest kerosene refrigerator in the United States. It uses kerosene energy to start the compressor for refrigeration. On the right side of Meilu is an air-raid shelter about 20 meters long. During the Anti-Japanese War, the air-raid shelter played an important role.

Two days later, we came to Meilu again and found a small pavilion in the courtyard of Meilu, so we climbed up and sat there. Under the pavilion was a hidden air-raid shelter.

The only villa where leaders of the Kuomintang and the Communist Party lived. It was named after the Chinese character "美" in Song Meiling's name. The first floor was Song Meiling's bedroom, and the second floor was Chiang Kai-shek's bedroom. It's hard to understand it without taking a quick look.

When we went there, Meilu was not open yet. We asked the staff and they said it had been closed for maintenance since May this year and would not be open until March next year. However, I found the official opening date online, which is from May 1 to June 30, 2017.

The whole area of Meilu is worth visiting. The scenery and architecture here are so beautiful, with tall trees and elegant villas.
