Shenyang Qipanshan Scenic Area

Qipanshan Scenic Area is renowned both domestically and internationally for its verdant landscapes in spring, vibrant scenery in summer, maple leaves in autumn, and snow in winter, as well as for hosting the Women's World Chess Championship. Combining stunning natural beauty with historical and cultural landmarks, it is a provincial-level scenic spot in Liaoning Province. In 2000, it was designated one of the first national 4A-level tourist attractions.

If you don't have a car, you can't go around. A local uncle said he would take us to the foot of Qipan Mountain for 10 yuan. It was so cold that we had to do it. It's more than 200 meters high. It's still very happy to climb up. The scenery is beautiful.

Because Shenyang had just snowed a few days before, the steps were frozen and dangerous, so I didn't climb to the top. I just took in the scenery from the bottom. Take the 168 North-South Line Joint Transport Branch, 168 Branch Line A, and walk about 200 meters from Xiuhu Square.

The entire scenic area is incredibly large, and the hike takes over two hours. As it was my first time there, I wasn't sure the route, so I got off the bus at the entrance. After entering the area, I followed the road to a three-way intersection. Turning left leads to the main peak of Qipan Mountain, while turning right leads to the ski resort and Guandong Film and Television City. We chose to go left to the main peak, which is a long, long way, about an hour. However, the picture shows us passing Mama Rock, Xiangyang Temple, and Xiu Lake. Mama Rock, a stone statue resembling a seated mother, and Xiu Lake, covered in ice and snow in winter, are also incredibly beautiful. Finally, we arrived at the main peak entrance. Because it had just snowed, the steps leading up to the main peak were incredibly slippery, even I, who don't normally have a fear of heights, was a bit daunting. After the climb, we returned along the same route. Later, when we couldn't walk anymore, we took a touring van. Next time, we might take the other side to Guandong Film and Television City and the ski resort. However, for Qipan Mountain, I still think driving is better!

There's actually an ice and snow playground and skiing area, so visiting Shenyang in the winter is quite fun. The trails on Qipan Mountain are quite well-maintained, paved with smooth stones. The winding path up the mountain is not very strenuous. The weather was beautiful that day. Although it was already noon, the sun wasn't very strong, and the shade of the trees on the mountain path kept it from feeling scorching. There weren't many hikers, and on the winding path, we occasionally encountered no other tourists ahead or behind us, which was convenient for taking photos.

The Chessboard Stone is a large, outward-extending rock with a chessboard carved into it. This stone is actually quite unique. If it weren't stretched out flat, but angled upward, it would look a bit like the famous Gongbei Stone on Mount Tai's Sun Viewing Peak. The chessboard was definitely carved there for tourism development. Although there's a stone tablet below with the words "Ancient Chessboard Stone" inscribed on it, it doesn't mention that it's a protected cultural relic. The so-called "ancient" or "site" listed on the ticket are probably based on legends and have no historical basis. We viewed the Chessboard Stone from a small hill opposite. This hill is a small viewing platform from which we can admire the scenery below the mountain and the Chessboard Stone opposite.

It took us a total of 1 hour and 10 minutes from climbing up the mountain to going down. We waited for a while at the top to take pictures and rested for a while in the pavilion. We didn’t feel tired at all. It was a very pleasant climbing experience.

1. Transportation: The Qipanshan Gate is the only way to get to the Shenyang Forest Zoo. If you're going to the zoo, you can take a bus directly from Shenyang North Station to the Qipanshan Gate, where you can share a ride. However, if you're taking an illegal taxi, be sure to negotiate a price.

3. My personal opinion: Qipan Mountain is considered Shenyang's largest natural scenic spot. The winds can be particularly strong in spring, so be sure to dress warmly. In summer, the forests are lush, birdsong and flowers bloom, and you'll also encounter winding streams along the way.

The scenic area is quite large. I personally feel that the Wei Great Wall, Hongfengkou, Wotuofeng and other attractions must be visited.
