Strange Slope Scenic Area

The Strange Slope is a unique sight in Shenyang. It was discovered in April 1990. It is a slope 80 meters long and about 15 meters wide, with a high west and low east trend.
The most amazing thing is that when a car is turned off and parked, it will automatically slide up the slope. This feeling is even more obvious when riding a bicycle.
It has now formed a large scenic area with many natural and cultural landscapes, including the natural landscapes of Xiangshan, Wengding, and Guaipo.
The Guaipo Scenic Area holds the Sophora japonica Flower Festival in late May every year. If you come at this time, you can enjoy the spectacular sight of "snow in June".

I went there 6 years ago and have forgotten everything about it except that there were a lot of people there.

By ~ |

I just went there recently. The tiger park there is pretty good. If you like cats, you can feed the free-range Siberian tigers. Strange Hill is a very small hill, which is relatively remote and the transportation is not very convenient.

By China-TravelNote user Hanxiao |

The strange slope is really strange and worth experiencing. You can also go to the tiger park to have a look.

By leaf |

It was difficult for both pedestrians and vehicles to go downhill, but it was surprisingly easy to go uphill. I still can't explain it... Finally we arrived at the strange slope. Actually, when I thought about it later, it was not far, but I was a little anxious at the time, so it felt like I had walked for a long time. You can experience a bicycle for free with your ticket, but you have to queue.

By Niu Ben |

If you don't go, you will regret it for the rest of your life. If you go, you will regret it for the rest of your life. The word "strange slope" has deceived many people.

The drive from Shenyang City to Guaipo takes about 50 minutes. You can book your e-ticket online one day in advance and redeem it at window 5 at the ticket office. I bought a Guaipo ticket plus a Tiger Park ticket for 85 yuan per person, which included a ride on the Guaipo bicycle. The Tiger Park is located just after the Guaipo gate. It's recommended to walk up to Guaipo first and then take the bus down to the park. This is a good option for children, as it allows for more time to play. The first stop is a bus ride to see the tigers in the free-range area. Tickets include a standard bus, while the thrill ride (which has no windows and is covered in wire mesh) costs an additional 10 yuan. After three laps, you can disembark to see the captive tigers and other animals. There's also a children's playground. Bring your own picnic food, including apples, carrots, and bread to feed the animals. The park sells them for 5 yuan a bag, and meat is sold for 10 yuan a small loaf. There's a maze at Guaipo, but I wouldn't recommend it. It costs 20 yuan per person, and regardless of age, you need a ticket, which is not very interesting.

After arriving at the Strange Slope, we found out that we could drive in, but we needed to buy a separate ticket, which we didn't know. After parking the car, I asked the ticket seller how far it was from the gate to the Strange Slope and how many minutes it would take to walk. The ticket seller told me it was less than 1 kilometer, which would only take 5 minutes. I thought I would just walk in, which would be a good time to digest my food, and I was too lazy to get the car. As a result, I regretted it as soon as I walked. This was not 1 kilometer, but 3 kilometers, and we had to climb the hill. It took me nearly half an hour to walk. I was speechless.

After arriving at the strange slope, I asked the girl, uncle and translator to ride bicycles. I took a break and let them ride first. Later, I found that I was not allowed to ride after one circle, so I found the manager in charge of bicycles to ask what was going on, because when I came here before, I could always ride two circles. The manager told me that the regulations have been changed to only being able to ride one circle. I was speechless. I spent 40 yuan to come in and ride one circle (one circle is about 50 meters). I asked what to do if I wanted to ride more circles. The manager told me that it was 10 yuan per person to ride one circle, and I could pay as many times as I wanted. I told the girls to ride as much as they wanted.

The strange slope is really not strange. Of course, this is my personal feeling. Some people may feel strange, but I just didn't notice it. I walked the whole way and it felt okay. There is no need to spend 10 yuan to take the sightseeing bus. If you feel tired when going down the mountain, you can take it. If you take the bus the whole way, I feel that this strange slope is meaningless. (P.S. If anyone has a mine at home, you can turn the downhill road into a slide. I think the slope is enough and it will be profitable 😉)

By Fengtian Lege |

Very good, the tiger is quite active, eating live chickens and rabbits, and is very agile.

By Janet |

It looks like you need to step on the accelerator when going downhill, but you don't need to step on the accelerator when going uphill. The only other thing you need to do is to have a viewing platform.

By Xiaoman |

There aren't many things to do at Shenyang's Strange Hill. The Strange Hill bike experience only takes about ten minutes, which is free and included in the ticket. Then there's the alpine grass slide and rainbow slide, each 20 yuan each. The scenic area bus costs 10 yuan per person, and you can get on and off at any time. The scenic area isn't very large, but the most worthwhile attraction is the Siberian Tiger Jinyuan.

By Zhao Yongquan |

I am very familiar with this place. The so-called strange slope is just a visual difference. However, the scenery here is still good. Since there are no other good places in Shenyang, the main reason for coming to the Strange Slope Scenic Area is to see the animals.

The most amazing thing is: when the car drives to the bottom of the slope and stops, you will find that the car automatically slides up the slope; the feeling will be even more obvious when riding a bicycle. You don’t need to pedal when going uphill, the bike will slide quickly to the top of the slope, but you have to pedal hard when going downhill.

It is a very unique scenic spot. I don’t believe it when others introduce it. Only when you experience it yourself can you know what it means to go uphill easily and downhill difficult.

By moyudu |

It's actually an optical illusion! It's a very interesting illusion, it feels easy to go up but difficult to go down, suitable for children to explain the principle.

The magical "Strange Slope" of Shenyang is located on the western slope of Maoshan Mountain in Shenbei New District, Shenyang. Facing the wilderness and nestled against the mountains, it borders National Highway 102 to the west and the Shenyang-Harbin Expressway in the middle. The slope offers breathtaking scenery and captivates visitors with its bizarre "upside-down" phenomenon, making it a must-see attraction in Shenyang.

By Alex Li |

“It’s easy when going uphill, but hard when going downhill.” I experienced it while riding a bike, and it turns out to be true.

By If the water three thousand |

It's amazing. When you buy a ticket, you will get a free bicycle riding experience. You don't need to ride uphill, and you will stop and fall downhill if you don't ride. But the cost performance is not high.

By Peng Er Shao |

Friends from other places can come and play, I think it's great

By 🚗Keep moving✨ |

This attraction is not recommended, it's boring, just a small slope

By Cang |

I've lived in Shenyang for 19 years and never been there. It wasn't until I went back home to get married and took a trip with my wife. It was a visual difference. Shenyang is my hometown, and I love it, but it's not really a city worth traveling to.

By Wandering around the world |

By Gege Daodao |

There are three ways to reach the strange slope: riding a bicycle, driving, and walking.

By Little Mushroom Buys Pineapple |

It's quite magical. Going uphill will lead to going downhill, and going downhill will lead to going uphill.

By What a night |

Very interesting place, Tiger Park and Strange Slope together, good for a day trip

By 60 cm |

Tickets for the Strange Slope cost 40 yuan, but if you buy online a day in advance, the price is 35 yuan. Many of the attractions within the scenic area are man-made, and there's a separate fee to enter. So, I had no choice but to continue on, just for the cycling experience. Honestly, I regret not listening to the online guides; the round trip was long and not particularly fun.

By Hao |

When I was a kid, I was stunned by the strangeness of the slope. Now I think it’s just a visual difference. It’s interesting and you can go and see it!

By New High |

Transportation to Guaipo is inconvenient. Bus No. 383 arrives there, but I checked on my phone and it takes nearly two and a half hours, going through 48 stops. We didn't leave until after 9:00 AM, and it was already noon when we got there, so we decided to take a taxi. We hailed a taxi at the hotel entrance and it arrived in 40 minutes, costing 100 yuan including the highway toll.

After entering the gate, we passed the Tiger Garden, but we weren't interested and headed straight up the Strange Slope. The snow was so white, and the crunchy sound was so pleasant. Along the way, there were several man-made spooky attractions, including strange houses, but since it was off-season, they were all closed, and I didn't see any staff. There were a few tourists who drove up there. During peak season, one ticket only allowed one round trip by bicycle. Now, off-season, there were no people, and there were a bunch of bicycles for you to ride freely, with no one to supervise or staff around. The strange thing about the Strange Slope is that it looks like it's going downhill, but you have to ride a bicycle to get there.

By Devil girl |

Speaking of the wonders of Shenyang, the most eye-catching one is the "Strange Slope". It was discovered in April 1990. It is a slope 80 meters long and about 15 meters wide, with a high west and low east trend. The most amazing thing is that when a car drives to the bottom of the slope and stops, it will automatically slide up the slope; the feeling will be more obvious when riding a bicycle. Since its discovery, the Strange Slope has formed a large scenic area with many natural and cultural landscapes. Among them, the natural landscapes of Xiangshan and Wengding, together with the Strange Slope, are called the Three Mysteries. The effect is very obvious when driving or riding a bicycle.

By Man No.9 |

We went there on March 20th. 1. It takes almost two hours to get here by bus from Shenyang city, so it takes 4 hours to go there and back. 2. The slope is very slight, I can't even tell whether it's up or down. People who happened to arrive with us said it was a pit.

By Mr. Liu from the Yingbin Road Women's Federation |

It is a slope that is more than 80 meters long and about 25 meters wide, with a high west and low east trend.

By Bean Skim |

There's a strange little slope you can ride a bike on. It looks like it's going uphill, but you can climb it without pedaling. It looks like it's going downhill, but you can't really go up without pedaling! It's a hard-to-explain natural phenomenon. There are some other man-made landscapes in the scenic area, but overall it's just okay. If you have time, consider trying the strange slope. Tickets are 40 yuan, and those over 60 years old get half price!

By Backpacking in Tianlong |

The "Strange Slope" is an 80-meter-long, 20-meter-wide slope that rises in the west and declines in the east. It was discovered in April 1990. At the time, a young traffic police officer was driving a Beijing-branded jeep down the mountain road. After shifting gears and parking, he suddenly felt the car sliding uphill. Stunned, they bravely tried several more times, but the situation persisted. Puzzled, they left in bewilderment.

The discovery of the Strange Slope has shrouded it in mystery. Experts, celebrities, and scholars flocked to the area to uncover its secrets. Some attributed it to magnetic fields, others to gravitational displacement, and still others to visual aberration, but the theories were conflicting and inconsistent. After its discovery, years of development and construction have shaped the area into a scenic area, creating a complex landscape that blends landscape elements, interweaving mountains and rivers, combining movement and stillness, and creating a unique and captivating atmosphere. There are over 20 scenic spots of various types. Following the discovery of the Strange Slope, the two natural wonders, Xiangshan and Wengding, were discovered. Together with the Strange Slope, they are known as the "Three Mysteries."

If you come to Shenyang, you must experience the strange slope. It is better to drive there. Of course, bicycles are provided for you to experience. I don’t know when they fenced off this place. Anyway, you need a ticket, which is 30 yuan.

By LErick |

When I was little, my family took me there to play on the Strange Slope shortly after it was discovered. It was a semi-scientific tour, with visual illusions and the like.

Actually, the slope is quite short and nothing special. It is mainly a memory.

By Xiwen |

You can go and see the strange slope. If you want to take pictures, don't go there because it is far away.

By Ant Yunqisky |

Those who haven't been to Shenyang's Strange Hill want to go, and those who have been there don't want to go again. It's actually a distance on the mountain. It's fast to go uphill and slow to go downhill. I can really feel it when riding a bike. You don't need to pedal uphill, and the bike won't move if you don't pedal downhill. I tried it myself, hahaha. The ticket is not too expensive, it's okay. You can also drive in. The car fare and the ticket are charged separately. In fact, you can just ride a bike wherever you want. By the way, you can also experience the trial track next to it.

By yinxin9510 |

Weird Slope is located in northern Shenyang, about an hour's drive from Dashuaifu. Just search for "Weird Slope" on your navigation. It's called "Weird Slope" because the slopes slide upwards, while the descents require vigorous pedaling. Entering the scenic area is Tiger Park, and it's a 20-minute walk from the main gate to Weird Slope. Self-driving is permitted, but a separate ticket is required. Ticket holders receive a free bicycle ride around the Weird Slope. While the experience is quite crowded, the bikes are relatively few, and thankfully, the slope isn't steep.

I've almost forgotten where I went with my older brother and aunt during college. I just remember this place. I've been there before and rode a bike to experience the strange slopes. I didn't know how to ride a bike, so I didn't feel it.

By Chubby revolution |

I spent two days in Shenyang, and the only place I felt comfortable was the Strange Slope Scenic Area, which is famous for its strange slopes. There wasn't much else to see. At first, I thought it was amazing that the bikes could actually go uphill without me having to ride them. Each ticket only allowed one ride, and since there were a lot of people there, my younger sister and I each rode it two or three times.

Shenyang's Strange Hill was once a popular attraction, but it's no longer as popular as it once was. If you have time, you should definitely visit it.

By long-distance runner |

I have heard that the Strange Slope is very magical. I decided to experience it in person when I had the chance to visit Shenyang. It only takes 5 minutes to walk from the city center to the foot of Qingshuitai by bus 383. The ticket is 40 yuan per person. The main attraction of the scenic area is the famous Strange Slope, which is less than 100 meters long. You can rent a bicycle to experience it. When going uphill, you can walk by yourself without pedaling. When going downhill, you must pedal or you will not be able to move. It took me a long time to study it before I realized that it was mainly caused by the visual difference when it was built. In fact, the direction that looks uphill is actually downhill. I can't help but admire the ingenuity of the design. There are many other attractions in the scenic area, but they are charged separately. Among them, the Tiger Park is a zoo with only tigers. The ticket is 55 yuan. I personally feel it is not worth it. The Strange Slope closes at 4:30 in the afternoon, so you must grasp the time if you want to play.

The Shenyang Strange Slope Scenic Area is located northeast of Shenyang, about an hour's drive from the city center. It is famous both domestically and internationally for its "Strange Slope" within the scenic area. When driving on the Strange Slope, if the vehicle is in first gear or forward gear, you must use the brakes when going uphill to prevent sudden acceleration, and step on the accelerator when going downhill to prevent the vehicle from slowly slowing down. Today, the owner of the Strange Slope Park has invested heavily in the construction of a large tiger viewing park and ski resort, making this park one of the main choices for Shenyang residents to relax and have a good weekend getaway.

My parents took me there as a child, but I haven't been back since. It was a magical place for a child. It looked like it was going uphill, but the car was sliding downhill. It looked like it was going downhill, but it was a struggle to walk up. It was just a slope, but as an adult, I really didn't have the interest to go there anymore. Tickets were 25 yuan, and the scenery wasn't particularly beautiful. Overall, it was just average.
