Many aspects of the square's design and construction fully reflect the ingenious combination of traditional Chinese culture and modern civilization: the inner diameter of the square is 199.9 meters, symbolizing the 100th anniversary of Dalian's founding in 1999; the outer diameter is 239.9 meters, referring to the 500th anniversary of Dalian's founding in 2399.

Xinghai Square, Asia's largest square! A must-see in Dalian! Besides enjoying the sea and the cross-sea bridge, it's also a great place to take the kids for a stroll! The square's voracious pigeons are completely fearless if you have food in hand, attracting both adults and children! The seagulls are incredibly cunning and quick to snatch up food as soon as it's thrown. When flocks of seagulls fly by, the scene is truly spectacular! Xinghai Square is a must-see in Dalian!

During the Spring Festival, the lighting projects along Xinghai Square and Zhongshan Road created a festive atmosphere. Summer evenings featured musical fountain performances, while winter featured light shows. Xinghai Square's central axis faces the center of the cross-sea bridge, and the green belt is covered in colorful lights. The Chinese zodiac dog symbolizes diligence and bravery. On Spring Festival evenings, many nearby residents gather to set off fireworks, and small fireworks stalls are scattered around the square for a festive atmosphere. Xinghai Square's coastal location can lead to strong sea breezes and very low temperatures in winter. Be sure to dress warmly when visiting Xinghai Square on winter evenings.

Because the Xinghai Square fountains may freeze over during the winter, there will be no fountain show. Instead, a 10-minute musical fountain light show will be held. The music and various lights will sync up to create a beautiful sea of light.

During the New Year's Day and Spring Festival, there are large areas of colorful lights decorations around Xinghai Square. When the lights are lit at night, it becomes a different colorful world.

In the evening, after dinner, we arrived at Xinghai Square. It was still early, and the lights between the buildings began to light up the entire square.

As the sky darkened, the distant cross-sea bridge gradually became clearer against the fading backdrop, forming a harmonious scene with the tall buildings lining the square. The number of tourists near the fountain in the square gradually increased, preparing to watch the evening fountain show at Xinghai Square.

Before the show, security personnel began clearing visitors from the fountains and dispersing them to a safe area. This intensified my curiosity and anticipation for the upcoming performance. I found a good spot to stop, my camera and phone ready to capture the nighttime fountain show. However, as the music started and the fountains danced, the overall experience was mediocre. It wasn't as good as advertised, nor did it meet my expectations.

The fountain wasn't finished yet, so we headed towards the beach. So, what can I say? It was a bit disappointing. It's fine for a post-meal snack, but it's a bit underwhelming for a nighttime view. The lights aren't as bright, the fountains aren't as spectacular, and there's a small, noisy playground on the beach, so it wasn't ideal for just sitting by the sea, enjoying the breeze, and chatting.

We went there a little after 6:00 AM, and it was already dark. There were very few people there, perhaps because it's quite cold in late November. It felt like the least crowded attraction we'd ever been to, hahaha. The night view was truly beautiful, though, and it was nice to just stroll around quietly. Seeing locals quietly walking their dogs in such a large area was a peaceful and tranquil scene.

The two bridges nearby are both beautiful. The one in the distance has beautiful lights, and the one closer has a particularly striking geometric shape. There's an amusement park right next to it, plenty of food options nearby, and it's a few hundred meters from Metro Line 1.

Xinghai Square, located in Dalian's southern coastal scenic area, is one of the city's landmarks. Covering 1.1 million square meters, it's the largest city square in Asia. Surrounding the square is a large musical fountain. 500 meters north of the square's central avenue leads to the Convention and Exhibition Center, and 500 meters south to the blue ocean. The central avenue is paved with red bricks, flanked by lush greenery. With its urban backdrop and ocean views, Xinghai Square exudes a sense of openness.

Xinghai Square, covering 1.76 million square meters, is the world's largest urban square, four times the size of Beijing's Tiananmen Square. Originally an abandoned landfill in Xinghai Bay, it opened on July 16, 1993, and was completed on June 30, 1997. Xinghai Square commemorates Hong Kong's return to China. The square has a unique rhythm thanks to the installation of various sculptures. The contrast with the azure sea, blue sky, soaring seagulls, and the 6-kilometer-long Xinghai Bay Bridge creates a seamless blend of the grandeur and agility of a northern city.

Surrounding the square is a large musical fountain that sometimes shoots fire. However, we were there during the Oktoberfest and the fountain show was suspended.

It is said that during major holidays you can see heroic female police officers patrolling on horseback.

In the summer, the square hosts a grand International Beer Festival. With the passionate music playing, the 30,000 landscape lights decorating the Xinghai Bay Bridge radiating brilliant colors at night, and the laughter and joy in the amusement park, Xinghai Square is truly a place for carnival at night in the summer.

A must-see destination in Dalian. There's a saying in Dalian: "If you haven't been to Xinghai Square, you haven't been to Dalian." The square is filled with seagulls, young people sketching beside the city sculptures, and children flying kites on the lawn. Across from it, a winding bridge makes it a perfect spot for a stroll. Xinghai Square also features a musical fountain at night, where Dalian residents gather after dinner and tourists from other parts of the city gather to admire the sea. It's a city square brimming with life.

Xinghai Square is the only seaside amusement park and park I have ever been to. It has all kinds of amusement facilities, the seaside scenery is unique, and seagulls are soaring in the sky. I must go there again when I have time!

Dalian's largest city square, it is recommended to go there at night. There is nothing to see during the day, and it will be very sunny. There is no shade on the square. There is a musical fountain show at night, and you can also see the Xinghai Bay Bridge in the distance.

Our final stop in Dalian was the renowned Xinghai Square. The area boasts as many seagulls as tourists, rivaling the bustling city of Zhongshan. The stunning scenery, like a sliver of blue sky and sea, makes it a truly Dalian landmark. The area's most striking feature is the flocks of seagulls that occasionally fly by. You can even buy a bag of feed to feed them, which is quite delightful. After our stroll, we headed to a nearby cafe for a coffee and a snack, enjoying a leisurely afternoon.

The largest square in Asia, it is really huge, with a wordless book, a century-old footprint, a musical fountain, a bathing beach, special food, a shell museum, a modern museum, and the surrounding area perfectly presents Dalian's international style. One of the must-see places

Xinghai Square, located in Dalian's Shahekou District, is an open-air venue in the city's southwest. It was a major construction project commemorating the return of Hong Kong to China and is a landmark of Dalian. Three circular paths run through the center of the square's upper ground level, dividing it into three landscaped levels. Two parallel paths run along its long axis, intersecting with two additional X-shaped paths, creating six sections. Xinghai Square's landscape is divided into four sections: Xinghai Square, the Fountain Scenic Area, the Centennial City Sculpture Square, and the Central Lawn. Xinghai Square utilizes a curved design, with a circular structure nestled within an elliptical road network. The inner circle has a diameter of 199.9 meters, symbolizing Dalian's 100th anniversary in 1999, and the outer circle has a diameter of 239.9 meters, signifying Dalian's 500th anniversary in 2399. Xinghai Square's major axis runs 1,010 meters north-south, and its minor axis runs 630 meters northeast. It covers a total area of 1.76 million square meters. The main lawn occupies 850,000 square meters, accounting for 77.3% of the square's total area. The Centennial City Sculpture covers approximately 75,000 square meters; 250,000 square meters, or 22.7% of the square's total area, are paved. This includes 4.5 square meters of paved space in the central star-shaped plaza and 7.5 square meters in the Centennial City Sculpture plaza. Xinghai Square is surrounded by numerous high-rise buildings and sports-themed sculptures.

At the center of the square stands China's largest white marble stele, standing 19.97 meters tall and 1.997 meters in diameter. This stele commemorates Hong Kong's return to China. Both its base and its circumference are decorated with dragons. The center of the square draws inspiration from the circular mound of the Temple of Heaven in Beijing, paved with 999 pieces of Sichuan red marble. The red marble is framed by a large yellow five-pointed star, symbolizing the descendants of Yan and Huang. The marble is also engraved with the Heavenly Stems and Earthly Branches, the 24 solar terms, and the 12 Chinese zodiac animals. 500 meters south along Central Avenue from Xinghai Square leads to the vast ocean. Fishing is also possible on the breakwater.

There's a classy yacht club by the sea. I occasionally encountered Optimus Prime. A cool summer stroll along the waterfront is a great choice. A giant book sculpture stands on the south side, near the sea. A night view of the Huabiao. The square is ablaze with lights at night.

By Just love to play |

A square on the Dalian coast, originally a garbage dump, was built around 2000. It's divided into two sections, north and south, separated by a main coastal road. The southern section, facing the sea, is a great spot for taking photos and enjoying the seascape, as well as feeding the seagulls. The oval square to the north is a large, beautifully landscaped green space. The former world-largest Huabiao (Chinese stele) has been removed, so the northern section feels uninteresting, and I didn't visit it. Xinghai Square is the largest square on the Asian coast. Surrounding it are Dalian's most bustling skyscrapers. The cityscape surrounding the square is still quite impressive.

I spent less than an afternoon at Xinghai Square. There was a very steep slope where the kids played on the slide. The ocean was right next to it, and there were lots of seagulls. The scenery was beautiful. The bridge leading to Xinghai Square was especially beautiful; taking photos from there was truly a photo opportunity. There's also a playground here, so it was nice to just sit there and do nothing, looking at the ocean.

But Xinghai Square is too chaotic. I live on Zhongshan Road and took a taxi back to the hotel. The driver asked for 100, and then I walked a little further and took another taxi. It cost 14.8 when I got back to the hotel.

There are no more female cavalrymen, which is a shame. The square is huge, and I think the dogs here must be very happy to have such a large playground. You can feed the seagulls on the waterfront, so it's worth bringing some bread, sausage, etc.

Dalian Xinghai Square is the largest square in Asia

By coco |

Xinghai Square is known as the largest square in Asia, but it doesn't really have much to offer, aside from a view of the main Xinghai Bay Bridge. The surrounding area, aside from the Modern Museum and the Shell Museum, is filled with upscale residential areas and five-star hotels, making it a so-called wealthy area.

Since it is the Spring Festival, there are still many people feeding the seagulls in Xinghai Square, and the seagulls are waiting to be fed with joy.

Coming out of Xinghai Square, I walked a really, really long way before finally reaching bus stop 202. Let me complain again, please don't come to Xinghai Square if you don't have a car, and don't come to Xinghai Square if you don't take a taxi. It's really fucking too big, and they don't consider the feelings of pedestrians at all!

Staying in Xinghai Square is a good option for getting around anywhere, but a reminder to tourists going to Dalian: in this technological age, find your own way around, or ask the police, Dalian bus drivers, and taxi drivers. They're incredibly rubbish. If you can tell you're not a local, they'll either overcharge you or speak rubbish. Be very careful when you're out of town...

My husband and I visited here in 2008, and ten years have flown by in a flash. Today, I returned with my kids. It felt familiar, but I skipped the classic photo spots. October 1st was packed, so I only visited the Shell Museum and the amusement park, and took a cruise to photograph the seagulls. The water here is incredibly clear, much clearer than it was ten years ago! Modern people are also consciously protecting this environment, and this is a must-see when visiting Dalian.

There is also a small amusement park in Xinghai Square, which has various exciting rides. Most of the rides are charged individually, mostly around 30 yuan per time. In order to attract tourists, most of them promise to allow tourists to play multiple times!

I knew that Xinghai Square was a must-see attraction, I knew there were amusement facilities, I knew I could play on the beach, and I knew I could feed seagulls on the beach. I thought the night view of Xinghai Square must be beautiful, but I didn’t know there was an open "book" in Xinghai Square, let alone a fountain!

It's very sunny during the day, and there was a beer festival recently, so the square has shrunk by half. It's not convenient to get a taxi at the entrance of the square, and the traffic is very congested. The view of the sea is still quite good, and there are many seabirds... I don't think there is anything else to see.

It's too hot during the day, so I go out in the evening.

The beer festival had just ended and all the equipment was being dismantled. The square was closed at around 8 o'clock and only people were allowed to exit but not enter.

There were a lot of people on the beach, many of them drinking and singing. I don’t know if it’s a characteristic of this place, but there were a lot of speakers shouting and it was very noisy... There were also men who urinated everywhere after drinking too much...

When the bridge lit up, I found that two rows of lights were broken... embarrassing...

On the other side are the amusement parks and food street. I think the food vendors in Xinghai Square and Laohutan are too crowded, and it’s smoky and hot...

Just a place to take a stroll at night.

From July 26th to August 6th, the 19th Dalian International Beer Festival was being held there. Daytime entry was prohibited, and the square opened at 6 p.m. Tickets were 20 yuan per person. On one side of the square is a large amusement park. I didn't notice it during the day, but it was brightly lit at night. The colorful strings of lights were like pearls and fireflies, throwing the sounds of music and tourists into the deepest part of the night, into the endless darkness submerged by the tide.

Small wooden houses with a strong Russian style can be seen everywhere in Xinghai Square. Under the cover of night, they look more like elves in the forest, flashing and stopping in the unlit square, providing food and souvenirs to passers-by.

By Noah's Ark |

Dalian is a foggy city, often covered in advection fog. The city buildings appear and disappear through the mist, making a stroll through it feel like entering a fairyland. Numerous seagulls rest in the fountain in the center of the square, enjoying the sunshine. They fly around the seashore, coexisting harmoniously with the people.

By PP Pony |

I strolled around Xinghai Square and gazed at the Xinghai Cross-Sea Bridge from afar. The lights were incredibly beautiful, the light show was truly remarkable, and the architecture was stunning. I even caught the Xinghai Square fountain show. Although it only lasted four songs, the sheer size of the fountain was truly eye-opening. Xinghai Square is incredibly large. I thought I'd reached the center, but later realized I was still halfway to the center fountain. I'm a little envious of Dalian residents who have such a vast area to stroll around. I heard there are female mounted police officers patrolling Xinghai Square during festivals, but unfortunately, I didn't catch one this time.

We had a wonderful night.

Xinghai Square, Asia's largest square, is a symbol of Dalian and a source of pride for the city. A visit to Dalian wouldn't be complete without a visit to Xinghai Square. The square offers a wealth of activities, including enjoying the sea breeze, slow-paced tandem and quad bikes, children's rides, and speedboat rides—the place offers a wealth of unexpected and unique experiences. In the summer, especially during the Oktoberfest, the place is packed with people, blurring the lines between day and night. Needless to say, transportation here is incredibly convenient and well-connected. There's also a shell museum, but it was closed due to construction when I visited. Admiring the diverse array of shells is a welcome addition to your collection, a shame. However, visiting during major holidays is highly recommended due to the sheer number of people.

By carey |

Our tour guide explained that Xinghai Square is just a square during the day—large, hot, and sunny—but it's a completely different experience at night, incredibly beautiful and a must-see destination in Dalian. So, even though we'd passed by it countless times during the day, my family of three was still incredibly eager to see the night view.

I think the only attraction is the cross-sea bridge with lights in the distance. You can decide whether to go or not after looking at the photos.

Not far from Donghai Square, you can take the No. 16 double-decker bus to Xinghai Square. The one-way trip takes about 45 minutes and the ticket price is ¥1. A taxi costs only about 20 yuan and you can arrive within half an hour.

The night view of Xinghai Square is still very beautiful.

The steep slope in the shape of the Heavenly Book on Xinghai Square is my son's favorite. He can run up and down it without any pressure. It makes my heart beat fast.

Xinghai Square is truly a landmark in Dalian. It's huge, and the environment is fantastic. There's a drinking water station (which tastes pretty good), and lots of people flying kites. You can even see seagulls when you walk to Xinghai Park. It's a truly wonderful place...

There are many squares in Dalian, and Xinghai Square is a very representative one.

I was pleasantly surprised to discover that the Sheraton and Grand Hyatt hotels had been built near Xinghai Square. They have an excellent location, facing the cross-sea bridge. Xinghai Square is large and consists of several sections. In the center is the fountain area and green space. To the south is the seaside observation deck and children's playground. To the west is the Natural History Museum. To the east is the Yifang Castle Hotel and the starting point of the Binhai Road boardwalk.

Our travel style has always been free and easy, so we just need to visit Xinghai Square.
