It was the official residence and private residence of Zhang Zuolin and his eldest son, General Zhang Xueliang. It is the best-preserved former residence of a celebrity in Northeast China.
Photos, wax figures, and various items used by Zhang and his son are also displayed in each building, showing the life trajectory of the father and son.
The luxurious mansion is filled with a large number of stone carvings, wood carvings, brick carvings, murals, and many precious calligraphy works by Zhang's descendants, which are worth admiring.

The luxurious mansion is filled with a large number of stone carvings, wood carvings, brick carvings, murals, and many precious calligraphy works by Zhang's descendants, which are worth admiring.
The Zhang Family Mansion, also known as the "Grand Marshal's Mansion" or the "Young Marshal's Mansion," served as the official and private residence of Beiyang warlord Zhang Zuolin and patriotic general Zhang Xueliang. Construction began in 1914. Once the supreme decision-making center of Northeast China, it consists of four parts: the East Courtyard, the Middle Courtyard, the West Courtyard, and the outer courtyard. Each building has a distinct architectural style, including traditional Chinese, a blend of Chinese and Western styles, and Romanesque.
The most famous buildings in the Marshal's Mansion are the Small and Large Brothels. The Small Brothel was built by Zhang Zuolin for his favorite fifth wife, Lady Shou. Lady Shou was young, beautiful, intelligent, and virtuous, winning the Marshal's heart. In 1928, Zhang Zuolin was seriously injured by a Japanese bombing at Huanggutun. He was returned to the Small Brothel, battered and bruised. Lady Shou burst into tears, and Zhang Zuolin managed to utter his final words: "I am seriously injured. I am afraid I will not survive. Tell Xiao Liuzi (Zhang Xueliang) to return to Fengtian as soon as possible." Zhang Zuolin died that same day. Faced with the Japanese's impending invasion, Lady Shou acted with remarkable courage. She endured her grief and made a remarkable decision: to keep the death a secret. When the Japanese came to visit, she calmly dressed at her dressing table, successfully creating the illusion that Zhang Zuolin was still alive and preventing the Japanese from taking advantage of the situation to provoke further conflict.
The Grand Blue Tower is the landmark of the Marshal's Mansion. Its construction was personally directed by Zhang Zuolin. Its striking Romanesque architecture of blue brick and white walls is particularly striking. The vivid, exquisitely crafted 3D relief carvings on the exterior and the magnificent interior decorations clearly demonstrate Zhang Zuolin's dominance. At the time, the Grand Blue Tower was the tallest building in Shenyang, and its harmonious harmony with the rockery in front of it made it a classic example of Northeastern architecture during the Republican era.
The Marshal's Mansion has witnessed the two Zhi-Feng Wars, the change of flag in Northeast China, the execution of Yang Yuting, the mediation of the Central Plains War and other historical events, and witnessed the rise and fall, honor and disgrace of two generations of Northeast kings. Those vicissitudes of the past have been integrated into every corner of this building.
The Zhang Family Mansion, also known as the "Grand Marshal's Mansion" or "Young Marshal's Mansion," is located in Shenyang, Liaoning Province. It served as both the official and private residence of Zhang Zuolin and his eldest son, Zhang Xueliang. Construction began in 1914, covering a total area of 36,000 square meters, with a total floor area of 27,600 square meters. Zhang Zuolin officially moved in in 1916, and subsequent expansions gradually formed an architectural system consisting of four parts: the East Courtyard, the Middle Courtyard, the West Courtyard, and the surrounding buildings. The architectural styles vary, including traditional Chinese, a fusion of Chinese and Western styles, Romanesque, Nordic, and Japanese. Key buildings include the Grand Green Building, the Small Green Building, the Red Buildings in the West Courtyard, and Miss Zhao Si's Building. The Zhang Family Mansion is the best-preserved celebrity residence in Northeast China.
After a brief stroll through Xita Street, I saw I still had a few hours before the high-speed train departed, so I decided to visit the Marshal's Mansion. The mansion is only about 500 meters from the Shenyang Imperial Palace, making it a good place to visit both attractions if you have enough time. At the entrance to the mansion, there's a statue of Zhang Xueliang, where many tourists take photos. To the left is the ticket office, with prices ranging from 28, 50, and 60 yuan. The higher the ticket price, the more buildings you can visit, including the Finance Museum. Upon entering, you'll see two beautiful flowering trees and an old 75-model car. Further inside, you'll see various reception rooms, exhibition halls, and side rooms. Enjoy the scenery and take photos. Then, explore further. Several rooms showcase Zhang Xueliang's life and deeds, which are worth exploring. If you don't notice the small door on the right, you'll be at a disadvantage. Entering through it opens into a rockery passageway. Exiting, you'll find a tall Western-style building. Inside, you can visit the first and second floors; the third and higher floors are closed. There are also several souvenir shops inside, some of which have self-service coin machines at their entrances. The coins are priced at 20 and 30 yuan. They primarily feature images of Zhang Xueliang, Zhang Zuolin, and the Little Brothel. If you're interested, buy a coin as a souvenir. Afterward, you can explore the Guandi Temple, the Little Brothel, the Garden, and more. After exiting the Marshal's Mansion, if you purchased a package ticket, you can continue to the Shenyang Finance Museum. That's all!
Tickets are 58 yuan each on Meituan, and scanning a QR code for entry is a bit more convenient. I initially thought the entrance fee was too high, but later discovered it included admission to the Marshal's Mansion, Miss Zhao Si's Former Residence, and the Finance Museum, which I think is quite worth the price. While the Marshal's Mansion isn't large, much of it is filled with exhibitions, and a thorough exploration will take at least two hours. The display of Zhang Xueliang's belongings and relics in the Grand Blue Building is particularly worth seeing. Miss Zhao Si's Former Residence, though small next door, has a distinct Republican-era style and is quite unique. The Finance Museum, with its recreation of a Republican-era bank hall and wax figures of figures, is particularly fascinating. The currency of various dynasties and countries is also truly informative.
I recommend the Marshal's Mansion + Zhao Yidi's Former Residence + the Financial Museum, so that you can have a comprehensive understanding of the area.
I recommend that you watch the TV series "The Young Marshal" before going to the Marshal's Mansion. Although it has literary and artistic expression methods, the drama basically fits the historical development process. You will fall in love with Zhang Zuolin played by Mr. Li Xuejian.
The famous Tiger Hall once housed two real stuffed tigers, but when the Young Marshal came to power and killed Yang Yuting and Chang Yinhuai, one of them was splattered with blood and rotted, leaving only one. I doubt these two are real.
The ticket office only accepts cash, not Alipay or WeChat payments. Because I didn't buy the ticket online (the price is the same as buying it on site) and I didn't have enough cash on me, I had to ask the young lady next to me for help. I bought a combined ticket for the Marshal's Mansion and the Finance Museum. If I only bought the ticket for the Marshal's Mansion, it would cost 28 yuan.
You cannot go up to the second floor of the brothel now. You can only look around in the hall on the first floor, and you cannot enter the rooms on the left or right.
A Grand Marshal's Mansion, Half of the History of the Republic of China: A Sigh for the Young Marshal's Century-long Road
I like a city because it has the flavor of human life. In the cold winter, the old man roasting sweet potatoes in front of the Marshal's Mansion, the middle-aged man selling candied haws, and the tourists chewing on the steaming sweet potatoes are undoubtedly a scenic spot during the trip.
If you want to trace the forgotten past of Shenyang, you can't avoid the Zhang Mansion. The Mansion was the official residence and former residence of Zhang Zuolin, the former leader of the Fengtian warlords, and his son, the patriotic general Zhang Xueliang.
Wandering in the courtyard of the Marshal's Mansion, it seems that every tree, every window, and even every brick and stone are engraved with the little-known past, which may be subtle and sad, or earth-shaking, or heroic, or love stories. The hustle and bustle of history, the endless past, and the wailing in the air all indicate the glory of this extraordinary man.

The Zhang Family Mansion, the residence and office of the renowned Fengtian warlord Zhang Zuolin and his son Zhang Xueliang, is a must-see in Shenyang. Located near Shenyang Zhongjie Street, it's less than one kilometer from the Shenyang Imperial Palace. Nearby attractions include the Former Residence of Zhao Yidi and the Shenyang Finance Museum. A bronze statue of General Zhang Xueliang stands in the square outside the mansion. The mansion itself is divided into three architectural complexes: the East, Middle, and West Courtyards. Representative buildings include the Daqing Building and the Xiaoqing Building. These exquisite buildings reflect the magnanimity of the Zhangs, who dominated Northeast China at the time, and chronicle their steadfast revolutionary spirit. A visit to the mansion is inspiring and deeply ingrained in patriotism. Admission to the mansion is 60 yuan, covering the main mansion, the Former Residence of Zhao Yidi, and the Shenyang Finance Museum. Don't waste your money after visiting the mansion. It's recommended to combine a visit with the Forbidden City; half a day is sufficient for both attractions, allowing for a meal nearby.
The Zhang Family Mansion Museum, located in Shenhe District, Shenyang City, Liaoning Province, is a national key cultural relic protection unit.

General Zhang Xueliang once lived here; although the order of non-resistance in the Northeast was issued by General Zhang Xueliang (some say he followed Chiang Kai-shek's order), he facilitated the cooperation between the Kuomintang and the Communist Party, stopped the civil war, and avoided internal friction among the Chinese nation. He was a patriotic general. When I was traveling in Taiwan last year, the tour guide also played an exclusive interview with General Zhang Xueliang on the bus; Marshal Zhang's Mansion is worth visiting.
Due to time constraints, we bought a 28 yuan ticket, which included the Marshal's Mansion and Zhao Yidi's Former Residence. We did not visit Zhao Yidi's Former Residence due to time constraints.
We entered the park at 16:15 in the afternoon and spent only 45 minutes there before it closed. It is recommended to reserve more than 2 hours for the visit.
The main hall is located in the center of the first courtyard, while the inner quarters are located in the third courtyard. Side entrances and corridors connect the second and third courtyards, and corner gates lead to the Marshal's Mansion Garden and the large and small brothels in the east courtyard. This three-courtyard quadrangle is a classic example of traditional Chinese classical architecture, incorporating the folk customs of Northeastern and Southern Liaoning. The painted columns on the porch are distinctive, while the relief carvings of inkstones on the walls beneath the windows are truly remarkable. These are valuable artistic resources for studying ethnic architecture and folk customs.
Here, there is also an exhibition on the life of General Zhang Xueliang, which uses pictures, videos and real objects to reproduce events such as the warlords' civil war, the change of flag in the Northeast, and the military remonstration to Chiang Kai-shek, showing General Zhang Xueliang's century-long life experience.
Marshal Zhang's Mansion is located at No. 46, Shaoshuaifu Lane, Chaoyang Street, Shenhe District, Shenyang City. The former residence of Zhang Xueliang was the official residence of Zhang Zuolin and his eldest son Zhang Xueliang during the Republic of China period. Marshal Zhang's Mansion was built in 1914, covering a total area of 36,000 square meters and a total construction area of 27,600 square meters. In 2002, it was renamed Marshal Zhang's Mansion Museum and Liaoning Modern and Contemporary History Museum. It mainly includes large and small brothels, the red building complex in the west courtyard, and Miss Zhao Si's building. It is the best-preserved celebrity residence in Northeast China so far and is a national key cultural relic protection unit. There is Zhang Xueliang's office in the mansion, and the special carriage used by Marshal Zhang's Mansion to pick up children to school in the 1920s.
Zhang Xueliang's former residence, also known as "Zhang's Mansion", "Grand Marshal's Mansion" and "Young Marshal's Mansion", was the official residence and private residence of Zhang Zuolin, a powerful Fengtian warlord during the Republic of China period, and his eldest son, the patriotic general Zhang Xueliang.
To enter the Young Marshal's Mansion, you need to purchase a ticket of 48 yuan.
On our way back, we stayed overnight in Shenyang. We went to Zhongjie Street that night, but it was freezing cold, so we only wandered around briefly and didn't venture into the nearby alleys, which meant we missed out on exploring the various delicious restaurants. The street near the Forbidden City was bustling with colorful lights, but it wasn't particularly distinctive.
The next morning, we visited the Marshal's Mansion. I think it's worth a visit. It includes a quadrangle courtyard, a European-style brothel, a small brothel that combines Chinese and Western styles, and a small building where Miss Zhao Si lived. All are well-preserved. At the entrance is a statue of General Zhang Xueliang. Of course, when visiting a former residence like this, it's best to have an explanation, otherwise you won't know what it's all about. We didn't look for one, but after we finished, we looked up information online and pretty much understood it. My son is quite interested in this, so I bought him a copy of "The Biography of Zhang Xueliang" when he has time! He was also a controversial figure, and his life was legendary!
The ticket to the Marshal's Mansion also includes the Shenyang Financial Museum, which mainly displays the financial history of the Northeast region. The hall is quite interesting, with many wax figures, and people can't tell the real from the fake. There are also some coins on display, from the first to the fifth generation of RMB. You can take a quick look!
The first trip of 2024 has come to an end. When will I go to see the sea next time?

There is a saying in the local area that "a Marshal's Mansion represents half of the history of the Republic of China."
If you go to Shenyang, you must visit the Marshal's Mansion. This was an important place where Zhang Zuolin and Zhang Xueliang, father and son, worked and lived during their time as rulers of Northeast China. The tour should take about half a day.
The Grand Marshal's Mansion is nestled in the historical and cultural heart of Shengjing City. Behind it lie the Shenyang Imperial Palace and the Governor-General's Office of the Three Eastern Provinces. These landmark buildings form a historic architectural complex that embodies Shenyang's transition from the Qing Dynasty to the Republic of China. The Grand Marshal's Mansion, a symbol of half the history of the Republic of China, witnessed many significant historical events and decisions during that period, from the Huanggutun Incident and the Yangchang Incident to the Northeast Flag Change and the September 18th Incident. Having weathered the flames of war, the Grand Marshal's Mansion holds a lofty position in the hearts of the people of Shenyang.
The Marshal's Mansion is not only a precious relic bearing a rich history, but also a masterpiece of architectural brilliance shimmering with artistic brilliance. Its architectural style blends Eastern and Western influences, with the classical traditional courtyard house complementing the exotic grand and small brothels. It offers a unique blend of Chinese charm and Western flair, truly a true architectural museum. The Marshal's Mansion embodies several key stages in Shenyang's modern architectural development, from traditional Chinese architecture to Western-style architecture. It epitomizes the modernization of Shenyang's architecture.
The Marshal's Mansion, which was once heavily guarded, has now unveiled its mysterious veil, and the past events in the deep courtyard have surfaced. The bloody storms and turbulent waves have all turned into the smoke of history and become the topic of conversation among people after dinner.
This is a successful example of transforming a celebrity's former residence into a history museum. It feels great to walk around in it. In addition to displaying the former layout of the house, there are also many texts and pictures to explain the history, and a small area is specially set aside for exhibition. After watching it, I have a deeper understanding of the situation in Northeast China during the Republic of China. It's great.
After visiting the Forbidden City and having a meal of Northeastern cuisine, I went back to the hotel and slept until around three in the afternoon. Thinking that Zhang's Mansion was very close to where I lived, I went to take a look before catching the plane.
On the way back to Beijing, I spent five hours walking around. I could store my luggage for free. The explanations were not as humorous as those at the Shenyang Imperial Palace. The three attractions were separate. It would have been better if they could be put together.
A must-see attraction when traveling to Shenyang
Marshal Zhang's Mansion is the best-preserved former residence of a celebrity in Northeast China. It is also known as the "Grand Marshal's Mansion" or the "Young Marshal's Mansion". Located in Shenyang City, Liaoning Province, it was the official residence and private residence of Zhang Zuolin and his eldest son Zhang Xueliang.
Construction of the Zhang Zuolin Mansion began in 1914, the third year of the Republic of China, encompassing a total area of 36,000 square meters and a total floor area of 27,600 square meters. Zhang Zuolin officially moved in in 1916, and subsequent expansions gradually formed the four-part structure: the East Courtyard, the Middle Courtyard, the West Courtyard, and the surrounding buildings.
The Grand Blue Tower, a landmark building of Zhang Zuolin's residence, was built between 1918 and 1922. It imitates Romanesque architecture and is known as the Grand Blue Tower because of its blue brick construction. The Small Blue Tower, located in the eastern courtyard of Zhang Zuolin's residence, is the center of the gardens and is known as the "Garden Hall." Its blue brick and tile construction earned it the nickname "Small Blue Tower." It was here that Zhang Zuolin, severely injured in the Huanggutun Incident, died.
"Miss Zhao Si's Building" is located outside the east wall of the Zhang family's mansion. It is a two-story building that combines Chinese and Western styles.
Location: Located near the Forbidden City on Shenyang Zhongjie, easy to find.
Price: Entrance fee to the Marshal's Mansion is NT$50, Miss Zhao Si's Former Residence is NT$30, and Border Industry Bank is NT$20. Adult tickets are also available, with half price for students.
Features: Zhang Xueliang's former residence, his life story, some cultural relics, the Border Industry Bank's collection of banknotes from various countries, and the original treasury.
Evaluation: Overall it is worth a visit. The resident tour guide is very professional and you can go in and feel the glory of the young marshal.
Dongbeiwang was where Zhang Zuolin and Zhang Xueliang lived and worked.
The performance at the entrance was very exciting, but the main thing was to watch the performance. I thought the rest was just average.
In fact, it is the Zhang's Mansion scenic area, but each room displays a lot of Zhang's father and son's past as well as the history of the Republic of China, the Anti-Japanese War, and the Liberation War. In addition, there are very distinctive buildings such as the Big Blue Building, so it is called a museum.
Romanesque architectural style, witnessing the legend of a generation of heroes
The Zhang Family Mansion, also known as the Grand Marshal's Mansion and the Junior Marshal's Mansion, is located at No. 48, Shaoshuaifu Lane, Chaoyang Street, Shenhe District, Shenyang City, China. It was the official residence of Fengtian clique leader Zhang Zuolin and his son Zhang Xueliang during the Republic of China period. A 4A-level tourist attraction, it is about 400 meters away from the Shenyang Forbidden City. The nearest subway station is Zhongjie Station on Line 1. The Grand Marshal's Mansion consists of the Central Courtyard and the East and West Courtyards. The East Courtyard mainly consists of the Grand Green Building and the Small Green Building, while the West Courtyard is a group of red buildings. In addition, there are buildings such as the former residence of Zhao Yidi outside the courtyard.
It is recommended to buy a combined ticket. The Financial Museum inside is very good. There are wax figures in the Marshal's Mansion that restore some historical events, and there are also some items used by Zhang Xueliang on display.
There are many kinds of tickets for Zhang's Mansion and Zhao Yidi's Former Residence. We only bought a package of these two for 28 yuan.
The tour lasts 1-2 hours.
The attractions are the Big Brothel, the Small Brothel and the former residence of Zhao Yidi, but there are a lot of people and it is difficult to avoid them.
The Zhang Family Mansion, also known as the Grand Marshal's Mansion, which is across the street from the Shenyang Imperial Palace, was the official residence and private residence of Zhang Zuolin and Zhang Xueliang. It is included in the list of China's 20th century architectural heritage.
Zhang Zuolin officially moved in in 1916, the fifth year of the Republic of China. The residence was subsequently expanded, gradually forming an architectural system consisting of four parts: the East Courtyard, the Middle Courtyard, the West Courtyard, and the surrounding buildings. Each building has a distinct style, including traditional Chinese, a fusion of Chinese and Western styles, Romanesque, Nordic, and Japanese. Key buildings include the Grand Brothel, the Small Brothel, and Miss Zhao Si's Building.
It is a bit similar to Chiang Kai-shek's former residence in Xikou and the Presidential Palace in Nanjing, both of which are typical layouts of the Republic of China.
Exit the Forbidden City and turn left. You'll see a large square. Walk all the way to the end of the square and you'll find it on the left. The two attractions are very close. Book your tickets online without exchanging them; simply scan the QR code you received via text message to enter. The Zhang Family Mansion is well worth a visit. It features a blend of Chinese and Western styles, a large and small brothel, and Miss Zhao Si's residence, a separate building to the left after exiting the mansion. There's a lot of information about Zhang Xueliang inside, and the tour should take about an hour and a half to complete.
Marshal Zhang's Mansion is the best-preserved celebrity residence in Northeast China, boasting magnificent splendor. After a stroll through the mansion, I felt a pang of sadness. This renowned patriotic general was held under house arrest overseas for years, never to return home until his death. I admire Yu Fengzhi's generosity! I admire Zhao Yidi's unwavering devotion to love!
Marshal Zhang's Mansion is one of Shenyang's famous attractions. I personally consider it a must-see for anyone visiting the city. This sprawling compound holds countless stories about the Zhang family and their history. The facilities and exhibits are quite impressive. A visit to the Mansion alone should take about 1.5 to 2 hours.
I suggest you buy a package ticket for three attractions for 60 yuan.
Actually, this is not a very distinctive building. It is just a super wealthy family during the Republic of China. I think the most worthwhile things to see in the Marshal's Mansion are the stories of those years, the official and unofficial histories of Zhang Zuolin and Zhang Xueliang, the story of Miss Zhao Si, Zhang Xueliang's later years, and the history of Japanese invasion.
The facilities are excellent and highly recommended. The Marshal's Mansion, the official residence and office of Zhang Zuolin and his son Zhang Xueliang, holds great historical and artistic value. It's well worth a visit, featuring exhibits detailing the Japanese Kwantung Army's attempted assassination of Zhang Zuolin and Zhang Xueliang's rebellion in Northeast China, among other key historical events. The exhibition also features the scene of Zhang Xueliang's execution of Yang Yuting and Chang Yinhuai in the Tiger Hall of the Marshal's Mansion. The Financial Museum spans three floors, and the first-floor service hall features restored wax figures of staff and visitors from the 1920s, where photos are welcome. Highly recommended for families with children!
After our morning tour, we had lunch on the pedestrian street. It was a short ride on a shared bike, making transportation very convenient. The Marshal's Mansion consists of several parts, all well worth exploring. It's one of Shenyang's must-see attractions.
Marshal Zhang's Mansion Museum is a landmark building in Shenyang. It is very grand. I have been there twice and it has a strong sense of history.
The Marshal's Mansion consists of three courtyards, a small brothel, a large brothel, and a Guandi Temple. The courtyard buildings are finely carved and the east and west wing rooms are symmetrical. The large brothel imitates Roman architecture, and the small brothel is inferior to the large brothel.
We had lunch in Zhongjie and arrived at the Shuai Fu ticket office at 12:40. Wow, it was crowded.
My husband was in charge of queuing up to buy tickets, while my son and I took a break and then immediately lined up at the door. This morning of rest was really annoying for everyone.
Most people lined up properly, but some blatantly cut in. As they pushed, they waved their tickets, "We have tickets, do you?" The few of us without tickets retreated feebly, only to look back and see people behind us with tickets also lining up. A tour guide, leading a group of thirty or so, had brazenly squeezed in ahead of me.
In short, there is no order.
It took a while for my husband to come running over with his ticket in hand, praising me for knowing how to queue. Actually, I didn't have to take a picture of the queue; it was so frustrating that my head hurt.
13:21 Finally squeezed through the door, and the Marshal's Mansion unveiled its mysterious veil.
We first walked through the three courtyards on the left. My husband said he was a Zhang Zuolin fan, having listened to the TV series "Heroes of Troubled Times" four times. He refused to follow the guide and took our son with him for a one-on-one explanation. I also took a break and insisted on listening to the guide. We split up into two groups, but we kept bumping into each other because the Marshal's Mansion was really small.
The picture below is a wax figure, a realistic-looking version of the King of Northeast China.
I particularly like Zhang Zuolin played by Li Xuejian in "The Young Marshal", whose "damn" banditry and wisdom are combined.
In the inner courtyard, I listened to many stories about Zhang Zuolin's five wives and took a quick look at the furnishings.
13:32 The Grand Blue Building comes into view. It is so imposing and majestic! It is as tall as the Phoenix Tower in the Forbidden City. It is so ambitious!
14:05 The small brothel is in front of us. This is the room of the old marshal’s favorite fifth wife.
The guide explained that Zhang Zuolin was sent here after the bombing and ultimately died in the room on the left in the photo below. The calm and resourceful Fifth Lady also calmly received people from all walks of life in this small building, cleverly concealing the old marshal's passing and buying time for the young marshal to return home, truly living up to the marshal's lifelong love for her.
Thinking of this scene, I couldn't help but admire this heroine and my eyes were filled with tears.
We have to take a group photo, but his father said: This photo you took looks like a group photo, okay?
I bought a package ticket, and children are free. I feel it is worth the money. I can see the northeast courtyard where the Marshal lived. Although it is trimmed and many things inside are restored, I am still very excited to see the place where the Marshal lived. The former residence of Miss Zhao Si feels average, after all, it is just a house. The last financial museum is great. You can learn about financial culture and see the financial development from ancient times to the present.
The combined ticket is 50 yuan.
Only the third courtyard and the west side of the Marshal's Mansion are open to the public, the Red Building is not open.
There are a lot of people.
The big brothel has two floors and the small brothel has one floor.
The overall area is large, but the places to play are actually limited.
There is drinking water at the west exit.
On my way to Changbai Mountain, I passed by Shenyang. I came here for the young marshal.
I listened to the explanation while walking around, which was a good experience. It took me one hour to visit the Marshal's Mansion, Zhao Yidi's Former Residence and the Financial Museum. It is worth a visit. It was mainly because I was short of time, otherwise I would have visited the Financial Museum more often. Some of the collections there are very interesting.
The distance from Shenyang Catholic Church to the Shenyang Marshal's Mansion Museum is listed online as 600 meters, which seems to be the straight-line distance. While walking distance is slightly longer, it's still within walking distance. The 50-yuan ticket includes the Marshal's Mansion, Zhao Yidi's Former Residence, and the Shenyang Finance Museum. The most distinctive architectural features within the Marshal's Mansion are the Big Green Building and the Small Green Building. The Big Green Building, a European-style structure, was where Zhang Zuolin discussed military secrets, made important decisions, and received Chinese and foreign dignitaries after his promotion to the Northeast Frontier Defense Commissioner in 1925. Zhang Zuolin died in the Small Green Building after being injured in a bombing near Huanggu District on his way back to Shenyang from Beijing. The Small Green Building, likely a Chinese-style building, is also the most visited of these two sites. I didn't visit the Zhao Yidi Former Residence and the Shenyang Finance Museum, which are included in the ticket. I happened to encounter a construction site outside the east gate of the mansion that day. The security personnel on site shouted that visitors were not allowed to enter due to renovations. It was quite chaotic, and I wasn't very interested, so I didn't bother to check and went directly to the Shenyang Imperial Palace. If you don't have professional photography equipment, the best place to take pictures of the Big Blue Building should be the place where you can see the whole picture of the Big Blue Building after passing the rockery. Unfortunately, this is a major traffic artery, and you can only take snapshots if you don't want to block the road. Other locations are either not close enough or you can't frame the scene in the center.
The Marshal's Mansion is right across from the Forbidden City. A 50-yuan ticket includes the Mansion, Miss Zhao Si's Former Residence, and the Finance Museum. It's best to take a guided tour of the Mansion; listening to the tour group's stories about the Mansion is even more engaging. The Mansion is truly beautiful, with a distinctly bourgeois aesthetic. The Finance Museum is filled with so many mannequins that it was a bit creepy. We still managed to take photos with them, though. The route inside is a bit winding, with rooms interspersed.
Entering Zhang's Mansion, the first thing you see is a traditional three-story courtyard. Trees are planted in the courtyard, casting shade to block the midday heat.
To the right of Zhang's Mansion are the Grand and Small Green Buildings. The Grand Green Building is a grand Western-style house, with only two floors open to the public. You can go inside and see the layout of each room. The corridors inside are narrow, and there are a lot of people, so it's a bit noisy.
Through the window pavilion, you seem to have a glimpse of the ups and downs of the young marshal's military and political career, as well as his widely circulated love story with Miss Zhao Si.
It's just okay, there's nothing much in it, and you can finish the tour in 30 minutes.
When I bought the ticket, I found that the Financial Museum and Zhang Xueliang's Former Residence were both located together and very close to the Forbidden City, so I bought a pass to visit both.
If you go to Shenyang, you must visit Marshal Zhang's residence. There are many wives.
I didn't make it in time to see the magnolias in bloom. I always felt like I had been there before. I had some impression but I couldn't remember exactly. But this time I had a heartfelt tour. A tour guide followed me all the way. I can only say that he was very considerate. 😌 Any historical attraction should be based on understanding this period of history. It is better not to see it if you just rush through it. It is still worth it.
I only knew about Zhang Xueliang and Zhao Yidi after I went to Zhang's Mansion.
A shining star in the long river of history,
Not far from the Shenyang Imperial Palace is the Zhang Xueliang Mansion, but I didn't go in because I felt I didn't have enough time. From the outside, the interior looks quite large, with the artistic beauty of a Chinese courtyard and the grandeur of a Western-style pavilion. Outside the main gate is a small square with a statue of General Zhang Xueliang.
The combined ticket is great, and there are a lot of wax figures that are a bit scary. There are also staff members making phone calls in the blocked area and forcing entry.
The Zhang Family Mansion is located southeast of the Forbidden City, just a 600-meter walk away. Currently, only the Central Courtyard and the East Courtyard are open to the public; the grandest and tallest West Courtyard, with its Gothic-style red buildings designed and built by Dutch architects, is closed. You'll notice that the architectural layout closely resembles that of the Forbidden City. However, the building area, at approximately 40,000 square meters, is slightly smaller than the Shenyang Imperial Palace. Because Miss Zhao Si didn't officially marry Zhang Xueliang until she was in Taiwan, a two-story building outside the east wall of the Mansion served as her living quarters.
Tickets to the Marshal's Mansion are quite affordable, at just 28 yuan. Tickets purchased in person or online include a display of the collection, and the combined price is 60 yuan. Personally, I don't think it's necessary. The east wing of the first courtyard houses the internal accounting office, while the west wing serves as the entrance hall. The east side room is the kitchen, while the west side room is the storeroom. The east and west gatehouses serve as the telephone room, the message room, and the guardhouse, respectively. The main gate leading to the second courtyard is a carved gatehouse known as the Chuihua Ceremonial Gate. The main hall is located in the center of the first courtyard, while the third courtyard houses the inner residence. Side entrances and corridors connect the second and third courtyards, and corner gates lead to the Marshal's Mansion gardens, the brothels, and the residence of Miss Zhao Si in the east courtyard. For the 60 yuan ticket, you can continue east to visit the Border Industry Bank (Shenyang Finance Museum) and the Marshal's Mansion Ballroom.
It is very close to the Shenyang Imperial Palace. It takes less than 5 minutes to walk there.
The official residence and private residence of Zhang Zuolin, the last head of state of the Beiyang government, and his eldest son, General Zhang Xueliang.
It is a combination of Chinese and Western styles, very grand.
Next to it is the place where Miss Zhao Si once lived.
There are several types of tickets. I bought the 50-yuan one that includes admission to Miss Zhao Si's former residence and the Finance Museum. Recently, the 60-yuan one also includes a special exhibition of Tang Dynasty tri-colored ceramics. Since I've been to Xi'an several times, I didn't see it.
The Zhang Family Mansion, nestled amidst the bustling streets, may not boast a grand facade, but upon entering, one senses the grandeur of a powerful Republican-era warlord. The building's distinct layout and comprehensive functions showcase numerous recreations of everyday life. Zhang Zuolin, Zhang Xueliang, and Zhao Yidi, each imbued with distinct personalities, seem to have stepped from a page. Within these Chinese and Western-style buildings, the turmoil of the Republic of China churns in a mysterious and shimmering narrative. The romantic stories of the Zhang family father and son, the love-hate relationship between Zhang Xueliang and Miss Zhao Si, and, most notably, the famous story in the brothel where a coin decided life and death...
Together with Zhang Xueliang's former residence are Zhao Yidi's small building and the Financial Museum.
I am very interested in the legendary life of the centenarian Zhang Xueliang. I have bought several books about him, looked up information about him, and watched many film and television dramas about him. The one that impressed me the most was "The Young Marshal" starring Wen Zhang, so when I arrived in Shenyang, I must go to see Zhang's Mansion.
The Great Wall opens up the frontier
The Zhang Family Mansion, also known as the "Grand Marshal's Mansion" or "Young Marshal's Mansion," was built in the third year of the Republic of China. It covers a total area of 36,000 square meters, with a total construction area of 27,600 square meters. It was the official and private residence of Zhang Zuolin and his eldest son, Zhang Xueliang, and primarily consisted of the Grand and Small Brothels, the Red Mansions in the West Courtyard, and Miss Zhao Si's Mansion.
The architectural system consists of four parts: the East Courtyard, the Middle Courtyard, the West Courtyard and the buildings outside the courtyard. It includes the traditional Chinese-style quadrangle courtyard, the Marshal's Mansion Garden with pavilions and terraces, the European-style Big Brothel, the Border Industry Bank, the Red Mansions, as well as the Small Brothel and Miss Zhao Si's Building, which are a combination of Chinese and Western styles.
The central courtyard was built first. It is a three-courtyard quadrangle in the shape of a Chinese character "目". It is a traditional Chinese imitation of a royal palace. There are 13 houses in total, with 57 rooms; the east courtyard consists of the small brothel, the Marshal's Mansion Garden, the big brothel, etc.; the red building group in the west courtyard is 7 three-story buildings in Gothic style, which are not open to the public.
Closed on Monday morning, open at 13:00 in the afternoon, please arrange your time reasonably
Marshal Zhang's Mansion, also known as the "Grand Marshal's Mansion" or the "Young Marshal's Mansion", is the official residence and private residence of Zhang Zuolin and his eldest son Zhang Xueliang. It is within walking distance of the Forbidden City. The mansion is very large, and the Grand Blue Building is a must-see place.
One is the residence of an ancient emperor, and the other is the residence of a modern marshal. After a round of visits, the Forbidden City was completely defeated by the Marshal's Mansion. Zhang is simply what modern people call a tall, rich and handsome man. He is really handsome and good-looking. The whole mansion is so exquisite that it is amazing. It is highly recommended and worth a visit.
The queue at the ticket office of Marshal Zhang's Mansion was okay, but the queue at the ticket inspection office circled the small square and took half an hour to enter. The queue at the Grand Blue Building lasted an hour. After entering the building, there were people packed together for the entire tour. It was indeed a typical National Day Golden Week.
It is recommended to buy a package ticket including Zhao Yidi's former residence and the Financial Museum. The Financial Museum is very interesting, showing the full picture of a modern bank, with a simulated bank lobby in operation, various currencies from ancient times to the present, silver vaults with layers of insurance, etc. Due to limited time, I did not complete the visit, which is a pity, but it is worth a visit.
The Zhang Family Mansion Museum, also known as the "Grand Marshal's Mansion" or "Young Marshal's Mansion," served as both the official and private residence of Zhang Zuolin and his eldest son, Zhang Xueliang. Initially built in the third year of the Republic of China (1911), it was subsequently expanded to form a four-part structure consisting of the East Courtyard, the Middle Courtyard, the West Courtyard, and surrounding buildings. Its architectural styles include traditional Chinese, a blend of Chinese and Western styles, Romanesque, Nordic, and Japanese. It is the best-preserved former residence of a prominent figure in Northeast China and one of my country's outstanding modern architectural complexes. In 2002, it was designated the Zhang Family Mansion Museum and is a National Key Cultural Relic Protection Unit. It is now a National 4A-level scenic spot, with an admission fee of 60 yuan.
There are many characters, many women, many historical events, and many similar "gossips" in Zhang's mansion.
Also known as the "Grand Marshal's Mansion" or "Young Marshal's Mansion," this was the official and private residence of Zhang Zuolin and his eldest son, Zhang Xueliang. It's the best-preserved celebrity residence in Northeast China. Admission is 50 yuan and includes three adjacent attractions: the Grand Marshal's Mansion, Miss Zhao Si's Former Residence, and the Shenyang Finance Museum. The main buildings are the Grand Blue Building and the Small Blue Building, both imitating Romanesque architecture. The Grand Blue Building is the highlight of the attraction and a must-see in Shenyang.
Patriotic education requires understanding of history
We went there during the National Day holiday, and there were so many people, upstairs and downstairs. It turns out that holidays are not a good time to travel. However, the Zhang family mansion is still worth a visit.
Fortunately, I have time to go for a walk! ! ! !
The Zhang Family Mansion Museum is the best-preserved former residence of a prominent figure in Northeast China. It served as both the official and private residence of Zhang Zuolin, the last head of state of the Beiyang government, and his eldest son, the great patriot General Zhang Xueliang. Over the course of a century, the museum boasts a wealth of stone, wood, and brick carvings, murals, and precious calligraphy by Zhang and his son. In Miss Zhao Si's building, visitors can admire the touching and lingering love story.
This is highly recommended for those interested in Republican history. As the best-preserved former residence of a prominent figure in Northeast China, the Yang Chang Incident and the love story between Zhang Xueliang and Miss Zhao Si, which took place here, remain endearing stories. The entire complex is also quite distinctive, with the east, middle, and west courtyards, as well as the buildings outside, each adopting a different architectural style. The bloody yet heartwarming stories of that era of warlordism can be vaguely relived here. The 50 yuan ticket price seems to be a good price, and includes the Miss Zhao Si Building and the Border Industry Bank (Shenyang Financial Museum), both of which are well worth a visit. The 60 yuan ticket price adds a small exhibition, which I personally found uninteresting.
It is well worth a visit. It is the official residence and private residence of Zhang Zuolin and his eldest son, General Zhang Xueliang. It is the best-preserved celebrity residence in Northeast China to date.
