Historically, it prospered due to the tea-horse trade. The ancient Tang-Tibet Road and the Southern Silk Road passed through here, and it was known as the "Throat of the Sea and Tibet" and the "Tea-Horse Commercial Capital".
The ancient city is small in size, with Dangar Street as its center. There are many shops selling many local Qinghai souvenirs, Tibetan specialties, etc.
There are temples such as Chenghuang Temple and Jinfo Temple in the ancient city. Most of them are old buildings built in the Ming and Qing Dynasties. Sometimes there are folk performances such as the County Yamen Shengtang.
The ancient city is a cultural city, where many famous poems, myths and legends, and folk arts such as lanterns, paper-cuts, folk art, and sheepskin embroidery are left.

Tanger is very beautiful. There are many old buildings, tools used, houses where ancient people lived, and a museum inside where you can visit. Many things are new to you. The Loess Plateau and the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau are combined here, the farming culture and the grassland culture intersect here, the Tang-Tibet Ancient Road and the Southern Silk Road pass through here, and many ethnic groups gather here. It is known as the "Throat of Haizang", "Tea-Horse Commercial Capital", and "Little Beijing". Tanger Ancient City is located in Qinghai Province, on the north bank of the Yellow River, on the shore of the West Sea, and at the source of the Huangshui River, 40 kilometers away from Xining City. The ancient city is named after the famous Tibetan Buddhist temple Dongkor. In the fifth year of Shunzhi in the Qing Dynasty (1648), Dongkor Temple was moved from Tibet to a hundred meters east of the ancient city, becoming a famous temple in Qinghai and Tibet.
The ancient city of Danggar is located in Huangyuan. It was an important military fortress and commercial center in the northwest during the Ming and Qing Dynasties. There are many ancient buildings left here. Although most of them have been renovated, they are still rare in the northwest. The city god temple, business houses, and government offices in the ancient city are relatively intact, and the leather embroidery is also famous far and wide.
The ancient city of Danggar was first built during the Hongwu period of the Ming Dynasty and has a history of more than 600 years.
The ancient city of Danggar is also an important frontier fortress.
You can see that there are not many things.
The ancient city is not ancient, with shops on both sides, a very boring place
An ancient cultural street. There are many artworks for sale. I bought a string of Dzi beads.
When I went there, it was under renovation and WeChat payment was not available. Otherwise, I think it is good, but the public transportation to Xining is not very convenient, backpackers need to pay attention
The ancient city of Danggar prospered in history due to the tea-horse trade. The Ancient Tang-Tibet Road and the Southern Silk Road passed through here, and it is known as the "Throat of Tibet" and the "Tea-Horse Commercial Capital".
Dangar Ancient City is the Mongolian transliteration of the Tibetan word "Dongkor", which means "white conch". It is located on the north bank of the Yellow River, the shore of the West Sea, and the source of the Huangshui River, 40 kilometers away from Xining City. Dangar Ancient City was first built during the Hongwu period of the Ming Dynasty, and has a history of more than 600 years. Since the Western Han Dynasty, it has gradually become an important town with a fusion of multiple cultures such as commerce, military, religion, and folk customs. It is known as the "Throat of the Sea and Tibet", "Tea and Horse Commercial Capital", and "Little Beijing".
The scenic spots are free to visit, and some small scenic spots require separate fees, ranging from 10-15 RMB. There are not many people in the scenic area, and commercialization is not so serious, so it is more original and a little more simple than other ancient cities I have visited. The area of the ancient city is not large, and the whole tour time is about an hour. There is no special parking lot, and the one-time fee for roadside parking is 3 RMB.
The first day was spent in Huangyuan County
Found this place by accident

Tour time: 1 hour is enough
Rich cultural heritage
The weather is a bit bleak
But this is the beauty of the vast Northwest

How prosperous this place must have been thousands of years ago

Well worth it!
Although the ancient city of Danggar is not very popular, its ancient charm remains.
It is a must-go place for the Silk Road and Qinghai Lake Sea Festival. Princess Wencheng also visited this place. There are many handicrafts in the streets and alleys. The restaurants outside Yingchun Tower are quite distinctive and the portions of the dishes are also very generous.
The town is not completely dominated by commerce. The main street is only 200 meters long. In addition to the ancient buildings, there are some small shops selling antiques. Friends who are interested in collecting can take a stroll along the way. Otherwise, it is a place without a rest. It is better to return to the city early to find delicious food.
It is a very worthwhile attraction and it is free. It is a pity that when I went there, the Huangyuan County Museum had just closed and I was unable to visit it.
Day 08 of the long trip
Rest for one day at an altitude of 2,600 meters in Huangyuan County, Qinghai Province.
Visit the 4A scenic area Danggar Ancient City, which is known as the "Throat of Tibet and Sea", "Tea-Horse Commercial Capital" and "Little Beijing". It was an important place for commerce after the Western Han Dynasty. Later, the City God Temple and mosque were built. Today, the sheepskin embroidery intangible cultural heritage is preserved. It is similar to Pingyao Ancient City, but with much fewer people.
As a reader, I must go into Dangar Bookstore when I see it. Unfortunately, it is closed.
Dangar Impression Theme Post Office, the slow delivery pony sculpture is so cute.
The fried barley cakes we eat are like "dog piss"
Before the 1950s, local residents used small ceramic oil bottles to hold rapeseed oil on their kitchen stoves. When making pancakes, the action of pouring oil from the small oil bottle along the edge of the pot was like a dog peeing at the foot of the wall, so it was called "dog peeing."
Yak milk is said to be made from colostrum, and tastes like egg custard. Highland barley cakes are fried in oil, and they are salty and have a special taste.
Old vinegar, Pingyao Ancient City also has old vinegar.
This dog has been following us. It really is a dog affinity. I said I would take a picture of it if it smiled, and then the photo (Figure 9) was taken.
The stars in the night gradually faded away. The morning in Huangyuan was a little chilly, but the pedestrians and vehicles on the street outside the window had already started their day.
You can buy a pass here, and there are some Qinghai-style performances. However, like the ancient towns built in many places in China, the newly built ancient city is inevitably a bit out of place. It is a good place to experience culture.
An ancient city on the ancient Tea Horse Road, not very big
It is still under construction. The ancient city is open, but the scenic spots are not. I finished the tour in half an hour.
Dangar is another name for Huangyuan County, Xining City. It was built during the Hongwu period of the Ming Dynasty and has a history of more than 600 years. The ancient city is located on the shore of the West Sea and the source of the Huangshui River. It is 40 kilometers away from Xining City. Generally, you can go there around Qinghai Lake, or you can take the Xining-Huangyuan bus line. The streets less than a kilometer long in the ancient city connect the City God Temple, the Confucian Temple, the Dangar Hall and other buildings. There are also well-preserved "Xiejia" shops in the city. The Huangyuan row of lanterns with different styles has strong ethnic characteristics, but the effect is better to see during the Spring Festival. The ticket is 80 yuan, which is a pass. The small attractions inside can be entered with this ticket. Please note that the carpooling master is free to go to these attractions, and he will also have a commission. It is not worth buying a ticket of 80 yuan, and it will not take long to turn around. What you can see at ordinary times are some shops, selling things, and you can turn around in the ancient city without buying a ticket. Be sure to bring all kinds of discount certificates. If you follow the master, the ticket seller basically does not check strictly.

The main street in the ancient city is less than a kilometer long, connecting the City God Temple, the Confucian Temple, Dangar Hall and other buildings. There are quiet streets and alleys interwoven with longitude and latitude, residential courtyards with unique structures, magnificent temples, well-preserved "Xiejia" shops, and Huangyuan row lights with different styles. I have been there three times, and there are few tourists. The disadvantage is that there are no public toilets around.
It's under renovation, nothing can be seen, so I don't recommend going there for now?

It was under renovation when I went there, so it didn't make much sense to spend money to see it.
It should be a renovated ancient city. It's not very interesting, and you have to pay to enter the City God Temple.
Take a look at the ancient city of Danmur and learn about the history of the people of Qinghai. I believe you will be interested. They will welcome us with the most simple folk customs.
If you have enough time, you can use it as an alternative. If there is nothing special, don't buy a combination ticket, just buy individual tickets. I bought a combination ticket but many performances didn't show up because there were not enough people....
In fact, as a must-go place to Qinghai Lake, I feel that I can indeed feel many different cultural places here, and it is also known as the hometown of paper cutting. However, the feeling is not much different from other ancient cities, so it depends on your schedule and time whether you need to go there.
An ancient city that was just renovated not long ago. Maybe it has been too hot in recent years, and construction is going on everywhere, so I lost interest and didn't continue after looking at a few places.
The ancient city of Dangger is known as the "throat of Tibet and the sea" and the "trade capital of tea and horses". It is very new and was rebuilt for tourism and commercial purposes. It is also the first film and television location shooting base in Qinghai.
Generally, it is a rebuilt ancient city, so it's better not to go.
The ancient city of Danggar is 40 kilometers away from Xining. It was first built during the Hongwu period of the Ming Dynasty, and has a history of more than 600 years. Since the Western Han Dynasty, it has gradually become an important town where multiple cultures such as commerce, military, religion, and folk customs have blended together. It is known as the "throat of the sea and Tibet", "tea and horse trading capital", and "small Beijing". The main street in the ancient city, which is less than a kilometer long, connects the City God Temple, the Confucian Temple, the Danggar Hall and other buildings. The quiet streets and alleys interweaving longitude and latitude, the unique residential courtyards, the magnificent temples, the well-preserved "Xiejia" business, and the Huangyuan row of lanterns with different styles carry a heavy multicultural information.
It feels very ordinary and desolate in this ancient city. There is nothing to see, and there are few people. It doesn't have any special features. It's just a small attraction that we passed by and walked around. If you don't have enough time, there is really no need to go. We had enough time on the loop line, so we went there later.
Just like Lijiang and Fenghuang, although not as large as them, the commercial atmosphere is still strong here. Similar street snack shops and souvenir shops are everywhere here, which makes the Dangar Ancient City lack its unique characteristics. If you need a ticket to enter the attractions in the city, you can also walk around the city without buying a ticket. It is not worth a special trip here, but if you pass by, it is also a good choice to go in and take a look before leaving.
After leaving Xining and heading west for about 40 kilometers, you will arrive at the ancient city of Danggar. This ancient city, which was first built during the Hongwu period of the Ming Dynasty, still retains a very strong flavor of a small town in the Western Regions. The ancient city is not big, and the main street can be walked through in 15 minutes. It is a bit like a smaller version of the ancient city of Dayan. There are no cars coming and going, which makes it seem a bit quiet, and there is not too much commercial atmosphere.
The ancient city of Dangar still retains its ancient charm. An ancient bluestone road interweaves quiet alleys, unique residential courtyards, and magnificent temples. Soldiers in ancient costumes patrol the road. There are many tourist shops selling scarves on both sides. There are some small paid attractions such as Chenglu Temple, Confucian Temple, and government offices. It is too cold to wear long sleeves, so the scarf business is particularly good. I bought barley cakes and dog urine cakes at the stall to supplement calories. The barley cakes are good, and the hot yak yogurt tastes especially good.
It has basically retained its original appearance and there are not too many people, so you can stroll leisurely in the ancient city.
It is said that it was called Little Beijing in the past. It was an important town on the ancient Silk Road and the Ancient Tea-Horse Road. Its geographical location was very important, but now it has declined a lot and no longer has the prosperous scene of the past.
The ancient city is located in Huangyuan County, Qinghai Province. You will pass by it when going from Xining to Qinghai Lake. The ancient city is not big, but it is an important city on the ancient Silk Road. You can walk through it leisurely in a few dozen minutes. It is still worth visiting.
An ancient town that makes us recall the original Chinese characteristics. You can go to the middle of the street to listen to the music. It is very good.
As a tourist resting spot around Qinghai Lake, you can stop and stroll around and take a rest.
Dangger Ancient City is the first stop of the Qinghai Lake tour. It is an ancient city with northwestern characteristics.
The weather was bad and there were few tourists in the ancient city. I walked slowly in the ancient city, but could not find its former prosperity.
I don't recommend going there. It's the most disappointing place. It's not interesting and commercialized.
The ancient city of Danggar is located in Qinghai Province, on the north bank of the Yellow River, on the shore of the West Sea, at the source of the Huangshui River, 40 kilometers away from Xining City. It is known as the "throat of the sea and Tibet" and the "tea-horse commercial capital". The ancient city has built the City God Temple, the Golden Buddha Temple, the Fire Ancestor Pavilion, the Jade Emperor Temple, the Guandi Temple, the God of Wealth Temple, the Beijishan Temple Group, the mosque, etc. These temples and temples are magnificent in architecture, rigorous in layout, exquisite in carving, and exquisite in murals, showing infinite mysterious charm. At the same time, they also fully display the Han culture with Confucianism and Taoism as the core, the Tibetan culture with Tibetan Buddhism as the core, and the Hui culture with Islam as the core. The ancient city of Danggar is also a city of culture, where various ethnic groups converge and merge, and various cultures coexist and grow here, forming a unique regional culture. A tile, a brick, a door, a window, the courtyards and streets all contain ancient and splendid cultural information. In addition, the ancient city has left behind many famous poems, myths and legends, folk arts such as lanterns, paper-cutting, folk art, sheepskin embroidery, and traditional folk cultural activities such as "Hua'er" meetings, pilgrimage meetings, temple fairs, ceremonies, Confucius sacrifices, and sea sacrifices, which have added rich cultural connotations to the ancient city. When we strolled in this ancient city and appreciated the display of Dangar's folk culture and ethnic costumes, it was as if we had traveled through time and space and returned to that distant era.
Although it seems to be a renovated antique "modern" building, regardless of the actual historical age of the building, the exterior design is quite well-organized and is a good place for taking photos. This place is also used as a filming base for Qinghai Province's film and television.
It's just a small ancient town. I passed by it when I went to Qinghai Lake. I wandered around for a while. 20150924
The ancient city is very nice, not many tourists, the old yogurt is delicious (drinking)
There is no need to spend 80 yuan on tickets. It is free to enter the city. Only some museums require tickets. There is no point in going there. There are many necklaces and bracelets for sale at affordable prices. I ate dog urine cakes here. They smelled good. There was some green stuff on them. I don't know what it was.
It's not bad. It belongs to the old street. You can watch performances for free. If you have a beautiful woman with you, it's still great to walk around hand in hand.
I didn't go in, but it was still pretty good.
It's just a very ordinary ancient city~~~~ Nothing special. The Tibetan master who chartered the car said that this was the former Tea Horse Road post station
The name of the ancient city of Danggar comes from the famous local Tibetan Buddhist temple Dongkor Temple. The ancient city is only 800 meters long and is free to enter. There are a mixture of old and new buildings in the ancient city. Basically, it has been expanded and renovated on the basis of protecting the original ancient buildings. There are ancient buildings such as the City God Temple, the Confucian Temple, the Danggar Office, and the Renji Commercial Bank. Some of the attractions are charged, and some performances such as shadow puppets are also charged separately. The purchase of a joint ticket is 80 yuan, and there are discounts for student officers. However, the most common things in the ancient city are shops, which are basically some common goods in the surrounding area, hats, scarves and accessories. Maybe because there are fewer tourists, the price is not expensive. There are also restaurants, Sichuan noodles, etc. The local yogurt is still very delicious.
The ancient city of Danger, also known as the "Ming and Qing Old Street", was built in the fifth year of the Yongzheng reign of the Qing Dynasty (1727 AD). The ancient city "Dangger City" was named after the famous Buddhist temple Dongkeer Temple in Huangyuan. There are cultural relics such as the Gonghai Gate, the City God Temple, the Huozu Pavilion, the Guandi Archway, the Jade Emperor Archway, the Gospel Hall, and the Qing-style courtyard houses in the city. The buildings with Ming and Qing characteristics are now restored to reproduce the prosperous scene of the "Tea-Horse Trade" in the past.
Dangar Ancient City. The former "Tea and Horse Trade Capital". The main street in the city is about 6 meters wide and less than a kilometer long, connecting the City God Temple, Confucian Temple, Dangar Office and other buildings, showing the historical development context and cultural characteristics of Huangyuan. I just passed by in a hurry, probably because it was the end of the trip and I was no longer in the mood to see the scenery, so it only took me 15 minutes to visit here from beginning to end, which is the shortest place I stayed in Qinghai. I didn't take any photos, so I'll borrow the works of Gettyimages contracted photographer Wu Xiaoyue to feast your eyes!
Although it is a bit commercialized, the ancient city is still very distinctive and ancient, and it is worth visiting.
The ancient city of Danggar was first built during the Hongwu period of the Ming Dynasty and has a history of more than 600 years. Since the Western Han Dynasty, it has gradually become an important town where multiple cultures such as commerce, military, religion, and folk customs converge.
Now the streets of the ancient city are lined with shops on both sides, making it a commercial street. There is nothing special to see, but as a free tourist attraction, it is nice to take a break.
No tickets are required, but it feels too commercial + Qinghai Lake ticket is 50 yuan (we went through the back door)
No tickets are required for the ancient city blocks, but there are some paid attractions along the street. Personally, I think you can go to this ancient city or not. It is also okay to get off the bus to take a breath and take a walk. We stayed there for half an hour. My friend didn't bring a shawl and hat, so he bought them on the street. The price was reasonable, and then we continued on our way.
I was just walking around the ancient city of Dangar and got caught in the rain. My nose started to feel uncomfortable.
Dangar is well-known for its reputation as the "Tea and Horse Trade Capital" and "Little Beijing". It has been a key point on the Southern Silk Road since the Tang Dynasty. The main street of the ancient city, less than a kilometer long, connects the City God Temple, the Confucian Temple, Dangar Office and other buildings, showing the historical development context and cultural characteristics of Huangyuan.
It is actually an ancient street. You can walk around it in 20 minutes. If you meet a good rickshaw puller, he will take you to the entrance directly without buying a ticket.
Although this ancient city has been renovated and has lost its ancient feeling, walking on the stone road and looking at the various buildings on both sides of the road, I can't help but feel a sense of admiration and pride in my heart. I think of our ancestors who, under the backward transportation conditions at that time, traveled long distances to transmit the Confucian culture of the Central Plains, various manufacturing techniques, and rich products from all over the country to all parts of the world through the Silk Road. Day after day, year after year, they left an indelible glorious history on the Silk Road. Their spirit, their blood and sweat have forged the sacred historical status of the Chinese nation. In that ancient era, the Chinese style spread all over the world. In that era, anything Chinese was a symbol of noble status in foreign countries. That history still makes the descendants of Yan and Huang proud.
My ancestral home is in Shanxi. In the ancient city of Geerdan, I saw two old vinegar stores, and I felt very proud. In that era, Shanxi merchants were really a golden signboard and a symbol of strength.
The ancient city of Danggar is more like a shopping place, with all kinds of shawls, accessories, etc., and the prices are not high.
From the time I entered the door to the time I came out, it was like entering a small commodity street, where all the goods sold were small commodities and snacks. It was far from the prosperity of Fengsheng Street in the Qing Dynasty and the Ming Dynasty. I didn't know which buildings on both sides of the street were original and which were built later. There might be a few stone-paved floors that have been recording the flow of people. I basked in the sun and followed the flow of the crowd, occasionally stopping in front of small shops with distinctive names to watch the excitement. It took me about twenty minutes, and I left some footprints that I don't remember clearly after a quick tour.
The ancient city was rebuilt, and various ethnic products and local snacks are sold inside. There is a snack with a unique name, called "Dog Pee". There are live specimens of Tibetan mastiffs in front of many shops, but it costs 2 yuan to take pictures. I personally don't recommend taking pictures because you will see more Tibetan mastiffs later. The ancient city is not very big, and it takes about 1 hour to 1.5 hours to visit.
I am used to seeing small towns in the south of the Yangtze River, so I also feel different when I see the ancient cities in the northwest. The ancient cities in the northwest have a more masculine temperament.
This street is a commercial street. It sells some local specialties as well as some souvenirs that can be found all over the country. Every store sells similar things.
When we walked in, we found that it was indeed an ancient city, but there was only one street and it was not very popular, so many stores looked lifeless. There were also several ancient houses that required admission. Overall it was okay, but it lacked popularity.
In fact, the ancient city here is not much different from most ancient towns. Many of them have been commercialized. In addition, it was raining, so I didn't take too many photos. The ancient city itself does not charge admission, but some attractions inside require payment. The two places that impressed me the most here are Nian Gengyao's former residence and Huangyuan Chengguan Primary School.
The early mornings here are like those of slightly tipsy passers-by, with the morning light shining on their faces, they are sleepy but in no hurry to open their eyes, and the water splashing on the stone road feels refreshing. This place is more like a Tibetan tribe in a small town in the south of the Yangtze River, small and heroic.
Every tile, brick, door, window, courtyard and alley in the ancient city of Dangkur contains ancient and splendid cultural information.
