Daotang River Scenic Area

Originated from the west side of Riyue Mountain, it is a seasonal river that relies on snowmelt and rainwater, and is the smallest branch of the Qinghai Lake system.
It has been a key transportation hub for entering the southern Qinghai pastoral area and Tibet since ancient times, and is known as the "gateway to Tibet" and the "throat to Tibet".
The river of Daotang River is winding and clear, just like a bright silk floating on the grassland.
Visitors can ride horses, visit the Tibetan folk culture exhibition hall, watch the oriental divine dog, the Snowy Tibetan Mastiff, and try on ethnic costumes to take photos.

The Daotang River is located in Hainan Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture, Qinghai Province. It is about 3,300 meters above sea level and is about 40 kilometers long. It flows from east to west and flows into Qinghai Lake. Unlike most rivers that flow from west to east, it is named Daotang River.

Separated by a mountain, east of the Sun and Moon Mountains, the Han people have been saying for thousands of years that in order to promote cultural exchanges between the Tibetan and Han peoples, Emperor Li Shimin of the Tang Dynasty married the young and beautiful Princess Wencheng to Songtsen Gampo of Tubo. On her way to Tibet, when Princess Wencheng arrived at the Sun and Moon Mountains, she looked back and could not see Chang'an. Looking west, she saw a desolate scene. She missed her hometown and her parents, and was filled with grief. She shed tears and headed west. The princess' tears formed this backwards river.

To the west of the Sun and Moon Mountains, there is another myth circulating among the Tibetans: The Dragon King sent his four children to build four rivers in the north, south, east and west. When the youngest daughter built the West Sea, she needed 108 rivers. She found 107 rivers, but could not find the last river. The clever and cunning little dragon girl brought a river from the Sun and Moon Mountains backwards, and this river is the Daotang River; the third theory is that this river was transformed from an inverted whisker of the Dragon King...

Ticket price: 40 yuan/person; recommended visiting time: 1 hour.

Many people also said that you don't need to go inside to see this attraction, but since you are here, Xiao Young thinks it's better to choose a few attractions to see so that you won't regret it. In fact, it's quite worthwhile. Wearing ethnic costumes, riding horses, riding yaks and taking photos are all free. Friends who like taking photos should not miss it~~~

Daotang River is located in Daotanghe Town on the west side of Riyue Mountain in Qinghai Province. It starts from Riyue Mountain in the east and ends at Qinghai Lake in the west. It is a stream of clear water that flows quietly, gently and meandering for more than 40 kilometers. Daotang River originates from Chahan Grassland on the west foot of Riyue Mountain. It is about 3,300 meters above sea level and is about 40 kilometers long. It flows from east to west into Qinghai Lake, hence the name Daotang River. It is the smallest branch of the Qinghai Lake water system. The river is winding and the water is clear. It looks like a bright ribbon floating on the grassland, magical and charming. It is said that Daotang River is now dry.

There are monuments, tent cities, and wind-driven golden wheels in the Daotang River Scenic Area. Here, you can watch the river flow quietly, ride horses and shoot arrows, and gallop across the Qinghai-Tibet grassland. The ticket is 40 yuan per person, and there is no discount for the elderly and children. It is very windy and cold here, so we didn't go in. We rested here for a while and set off again.

By Eighteen Children Tour |

The so-called scenic spot is actually just a piece of land with a few yurts. You can change into national costumes for free and ride horses and yaks. There is nothing else.

After reading this, perhaps you have discovered that when I say the river is flowing backwards, let alone the river water flowing backwards, in my article, did you not even see any water?

So, just listen to the river flowing backwards.

If you want to experience ethnic customs, you can also consider it.

Daotang River is located in Hainan Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture, Qinghai Province, with an altitude of about 3,300 meters and a total length of more than 40 kilometers. It flows from east to west and flows into Qinghai Lake, which is different from most rivers that flow from west to east, hence the name Daotang River. Walking from Laji Mountain to Qinghai Lake, we passed by Riyue Mountain and Daotang River on the way. Master Tang told us that there was nothing interesting and asked us if we planned to go in. We just took a casual look on the road and left.

It's just a small ditch, without any special features. Staying longer would be a waste of time and disrespect.

After exiting the Daotanghe Expressway, you have actually entered the southern line of China's largest inland saltwater lake - Qinghai Lake.

By Zhao Feng |

This is a must-visit town when entering the Tibetan area from Xining and going to Qinghai Lake. It is one of the few rivers in China that flows from east to west. The scenic area is not large and few people are willing to buy tickets to enter!

Different from most rivers that flow from west to east, this river flows from east to west into Qinghai Lake. This river is really small and short. Residents nearby intercepted a section of the river to form a pond and built a paid scenic spot. You can rent ethnic costumes, ride yaks and take pictures. It is a famous "wild scenic spot" hahaha.

By W_minjunjun |

Finally we arrived at Daotang River. The ticket price was 60 yuan, including the choice of Tibetan clothing for taking photos and horseback riding. I went there for the horseback riding, but I didn't expect that they would just let you ride and take photos. The trick was too deep, and we all fell into the trap. It was raining, the air was particularly fresh, and I walked on the grass with an umbrella, which was very relaxing, comfortable and comfortable.

By Smallangela dream |

The ticket for the Reverse Tang River is not expensive, only 40 yuan per person. There are more than 100 Tibetan costumes to choose from and wear and take photos for free. The blue and white Tibetan costumes are recommended. Due to time constraints, we only tried 3 sets. We had a lot of fun taking photos with the prayer flags and yurts.

By Yuntian Fruit |

The ticket to the Daotang River Scenic Area is 40 yuan. There are various ethnic costumes inside and you can take photos. All of them are included in the ticket. You can also take photos with yaks.

By Canghai is just smoke |

The ticket for the private attraction is 40 yuan, and riding horses, yaks, and wearing Tibetan clothes are free. The river formed by Princess Wencheng's tears flows from east to west.

By Sofen |

The experience of Daotang River is not as good as that of Laji Mountain, probably because there are too many people. The ticket is 40 yuan, and clothes are also provided for free. Unlike Laji Mountain, you can also take photos with horses and yaks for free.

By Heading North |

I really don't recommend you to go into this attraction. The ticket costs 40 yuan, and all you get inside is to change into ethnic clothes and take photos with tied cows and horses. It's basically just a walk in the wilderness, which was really boring. Plus, there was a cold wind and the weather was gloomy, so we came out in less than ten minutes.

By Lushan Shenglongba |

After a short rest, the car arrived at Daotang River. It was more like a Qinghai-Tibet style COSPLAY SHOW than a Daotang River.

The backward flowing river, "all rivers in the world flow eastward, only this stream flows westward." According to legend, when Princess Wencheng of the Tang Dynasty was on her way to Tibet to marry Songtsen Gampo of Tubo, she arrived at the Sun and Moon Mountain and looked back but could not see Chang'an. Looking west, she saw a desolate scene. She missed her hometown and her parents, and was filled with grief. She shed tears and flowed westward. The princess' tears gathered into this backward flowing river. Not far away, there is a statue of Princess Wencheng and a stone tablet of the first town on the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau.

By Xiaojia❤️Travel |

The ticket is 40 yuan per person. People who came out said it was not very good, so we didn't go in. We just looked around the periphery and felt that it was overdeveloped.

By _Heartless |

It was past nine in the evening when we arrived at Daotang River. It was getting dark. We were the last group to enter the scenic area. The toll collector took the initiative to give us a discount on the tickets. Now I think we should have negotiated the price. It's better to call it a stream than a river. The water was almost dry, the wind was strong, and we were cold and hungry.

By Floating_Everywhere |

Legend has it that the tears Princess Wencheng left when she looked back at the Tang Dynasty were the result of a combination of tears. In fact, the landscape is more artificial. The 40 yuan ticket is OK. You can change into Tibetan clothes and take pictures with yurts, white yaks, and horses. It's up to you to decide.

You can wear Tibetan clothes for free inside. It's nice to take pictures when the weather is good. The price is not expensive.

The scenic spot is not big. The early winter weather is about 3 degrees. When the cold wind blows, it shivers like a ribbon... Fortunately, we all brought enough clothes to keep warm. There are free Tibetan costumes in the yurt for taking pictures, but we don’t have the courage to take off our thick clothes. Tour time: 0.5 hours. Ticket price: 40 yuan.

By Samantha |

It is actually a very small tourist attraction. You can change clothes and take pictures. The ticket is 40. I personally feel that it is not necessary to go there.

The Daotang River scenic spot is a large grassland. There are tents inside, and there are places to take pictures of ethnic costumes, yaks, horses and some ethnic scenes. The Daotang River Station is mainly for taking some beautiful ethnic photos. Of course, if you are not interested, you can choose not to enter.

Before National Highway 109 crosses the Riyue Mountain and heads west to reach Daotanghe Town, it passes through a rare river in China that flows automatically westward - the Daotang River.

It used to be a river flowing eastwards, but due to crustal movement and the uplift of the Riyue Mountains, the river became a "backwards flowing" river and flowed into Qinghai Lake.

The driver did not recommend us to enter the scenic spot to visit the Daotang River, and just stand on the side of the road and look at it.

In addition, we saw the advice of other bees on the hive before, and in order to save the 40 yuan ticket, we did not buy a ticket to enter. I took a photo of the toll station of the river from a distance, which means I have been there.

But, you see, the weather is so nice now!

After passing Daotang River and having a quick meal, we started heading straight for Qinghai Lake.

Continue 40km from Riyue Mountain to reach Daotanghe Town. Daotanghe is a seasonal river originating from Riyue Mountain and relying on snowmelt and rainwater. Since ancient times, there has been a saying that "a river of spring water flows eastward", but Daotanghe is a river that "all rivers flow eastward, but I flow westward". Autumn is the rainy season in the Daotanghe area. A heavy rain over Riyue Mountain will turn Daotanghe into a sudden mountain torrent. In summer, Daotanghe has no wide river surface, but only a stream with shallow water. On the bank of Daotanghe, there is a town named after Daotanghe. It is the intersection of Qinghai-Tibet Highway and Qinghai-Kangding Highway. It goes straight to Tibet in the west and Sichuan in the south. Folk singer Zhang Qianqian has a song called "Daotanghe", which sings out the sadness and loneliness in the vast land.

The Reverse River is a man-made attraction! The ticket is 40 yuan. There is a big yurt with many ethnic costumes inside. You can change clothes here (no extra charge). Although many clothes have broken zippers or torn clothes, I didn't force it to take pictures. You can also take pictures on yaks and horses.

It's a small attraction created by the locals, a pool of water, nothing interesting. The circular route drivers will go there, the ticket is 20 or 40, you can wear Tibetan clothes, ride horses, ride yaks. But it's pitiful that they are ridden by thousands of people.

I didn't intend to go in, and I wasn't particularly interested in wearing local clothes to take photos, but I went in anyway since it was a rare trip. The 40 yuan ticket included changing into local clothes, riding yaks and horses, which was quite worth it. The clothes looked much better than I thought.

This place is a bummer. We arrived at night and were freezing. The scenery was terrible and the river was not very good.

After getting off the toll booth, I was told that it was the "scenic area". The ticket was 40 yuan, and the toilet at the door also charged. The "scenic area" was actually blocked by humans. I took photos, but I didn't see the real appearance of the river. It was a pity. I could only take photos at the stone tablet in front of the door.

Daotang River is located in Daotang River Town on the west side of Sun Moon Mountain in Qinghai and the eastern edge of Qinghai Lake. It is the fork point of National Highway 109 and 214. It is named because the water of Daotang River flows from east to west. The Qinghai-Tibet Highway is divided from here. The main road goes west to the Qaidam Basin of Haixi Prefecture, directly to the southern Xinjiang of Tibet and Xinjiang; the branch road goes south to Hainan, Guoluo, Yushu and other vast pastoral areas. Daotang River Scenic Area is the third stop that the driver took us to on the first day of the trip to Qinghai Lake. We went there from Zamplinka and Sun Moon Mountain. I think the reason why the driver took us there may be because of the convenient transportation and the only way to Qinghai Lake, so we stayed for a while. The scenic area is located next to Daotang River Town. It is a small area circled by Tibetans next to Daotang River. The ticket price is 40 yuan. There is no student ticket or any discount ticket, because this is a privately operated scenic spot. There are sparse tents and prayer flags inside, which will not be much different from the plateau scenery you see outside. The Daotang River is not noticed at all. The only extra points are some tents, prayer flags and brand new stone tablets. The scale of the Daotang River we saw was so small that we could not notice it at all. After entering, you can wear Tibetan clothes for free and ride yaks to take photos. The quality of the Tibetan clothes is also very poor. Note that the yaks are tied and are only used for taking photos. I was the only one in our car who went in for a look and came out in less than 20 minutes. It is not recommended to enter if you are short on time. Apart from wearing Tibetan clothes and posing for photos and looking at people, it will not leave any impression on you.

The driver, Mr. Ma, said that there were only two pavilions in the Sun Moon Mountain Scenic Area, which was not very interesting, and there was no need to pay for the entrance fee. We followed his advice and went directly to the Daotang River - it is said that the Daotang River was formed by the tears of Princess Wencheng who was homesick, and it flows from east to west, so it is called the "Daotang River". Our family wore Tibetan costumes and took various photos. The ticket also included the cost of riding yaks, but we felt that the yaks were very pitiful, so we didn't ride them.

By Bamboo dew and light rain |

When I first heard the name, I thought it would be a big scenic spot. But it turned out to be just a small river. I couldn't even tell where it flowed. It was really not worth the 40 yuan. You can rent clothes to take pictures, and you can ride horses and yaks for free, but that's about it. It feels like a rip-off attraction.

It is a scenic spot with Tibetan style. There are stone tablets of "Qinghai-Tibet Plateau" and "Zaxi Deler". You can take photos and wear Tibetan costumes for free. The scenic spot is not large. It is a place with average experience but you can take many tourist photos. However, the management is still unsatisfactory. When you enter the gate, they said that riding yaks and horses is free, but when you get there, the staff asked for 10 yuan. I asked them if they said they would not charge money, so they gave up.

The ticket to Daotang River seems to be 50 yuan per person, and it seems to be privately developed. Student IDs and senior citizen IDs cannot be used. You can ride horses inside. The horse is probably ridden by thousands of people a day. So the staff will not let you step on the horse clip. You have to climb up on a stool. The horse is very smelly and not good-looking. Oh. Free change of clothes. The front of the clothes are all good. The peppers at the back are almost all broken. But there is a Tibetan grandmother who keeps patching them up. It is okay to take pictures. There are many yurts inside. You can go in and visit them. It is very unique. But many things are covered with dust. The tourist facilities can only be said to be below average. They are all developed to make money. It was very cold in mid-June, but there were still many girls wearing backless skirts, which was commendable for their courage. It was very windy.

There is nothing special about the scenic spot, but the natural scenery is very good. Very suitable for taking pictures.

The ticket price is 40 yuan per person. The so-called free activities include changing clothes and taking photos. The very small area is also cordoned off with cloth. I was very disappointed after entering.

Man-made attractions, a bit leisurely? There is no original nature, but the color of the stripes inside matches the blue sky very well. The children rode a yak, which was charged separately!

Daotanghe Township is located in the middle of the north-south line of Qinghai Lake, and the scenery itself is nice. The road along the lake from Bird Island to Daotanghe runs along the edge of Qinghai Lake, which is the best route to view Qinghai Lake.

On the way to Qinghai Lake, we also passed the Daotang River (ticket price 40 yuan, no student ticket). Although Master Ma didn't recommend it, we thought that since we were here, we might as well go in and take a look. There is a relatively large yurt in the scenic area, where Tibetan costumes can be worn at will, and there are yaks and horses that can be ridden and photographed. Probably because these projects are free, the service attitude is not very good. The so-called Daotang River is just a small river. There is nothing special except that it flows backwards to the west. Although we danced to the music and took a few crazy and silly videos, this place was still unanimously rated by us as the most pitfall attraction of this trip, no one.

Even though you're just passing by, you can still go and take a look. It's a place with many stories!

Like a flowing river, it is actually a small river.
