It was first built in the Eastern Han Dynasty and was a royal temple in the Tang Dynasty. It became a Buddhist holy place admired by the whole country because it housed the finger bone relics of Sakyamuni Buddha.
According to legend, in order to promote Buddhism, the Buddha's relics were distributed to various places, and pagodas were built in every place where the relics were found. Famen Temple is one of them.
Today, Famen Temple is divided into two parts: the old Tang Dynasty-style building complex (Famen Temple and Treasure House) and the controversial new cultural scenic area.
The cultural relics unearthed from the underground palace include an eight-layer treasure box for placing relics and a twelve-ring staff, which reflect the extreme wealth of the Tang Empire and the royal family's sincerity in worshiping Buddha.

Famen Temple was first built in the late Eastern Han Dynasty. It was a wooden pagoda in the Tang Dynasty and a brick pagoda in the Ming Dynasty. The pagoda we see now is a reinforced concrete pagoda built on the original site in the 1980s in imitation of the Ming Dynasty. Famen Temple is famous for the unearthed Buddha's middle finger relic of the left hand of Buddha Sakyamuni, known as the 9th wonder of the world. The Famen Temple Heshi Relic Pagoda was built in 2004 and is used to enshrine Buddha's relic. Photography of the Buddha's relic is prohibited.
The underground palace of Famen Temple has unearthed the finger bone relics of Sakyamuni Buddha, the bronze pagoda, the eight-layer treasure box, the silver flower double-wheeled twelve-ring staff and other supreme Buddhist treasures. The Famen Temple Treasure House has more than 2,000 Tang Dynasty national treasures unearthed from the underground palace of Famen Temple. It is the largest among all temples in the world. It is known as the Eastern Buddhist Capital and has a history of more than 1,700 years.
The place is quite large and there are many Buddha statues. As a Buddhist holy place, it is worth a visit.
The old Famen Temple is pretty good, and the underground palace is worth seeing. But on weekdays, you can only see the other three relics. I went there on the fifth day of the Lunar New Year and saw the Buddha's real body relics in the new Famen Temple next door.
It is recommended to enter from the old Famen Temple, and walk to the new Famen Temple from the passage after the visit. This way, it is very close to the main hall of the new Famen Temple on foot, saving the cost of the battery car ticket. The new Famen Temple is just a big one, and the architecture has no characteristics. If you don't see the real body relics, you will probably feel bored. I experienced a vegetarian meal for 35 yuan. The taste is okay. There is no air conditioning in the dining area, and the meal became cold. The supervisory volunteer of Zhiyu kept recommending hot sauce to us.
It is very convenient to take the special bus to Famen Temple from Chengxi Bus Station. We took the 9 am bus and set off on time. It took about an hour and a half to get off near the ruins of Famen Temple. The programmer on the bus will inform you of the get-off point and return time. When you return, you will get on the same route (return bus number 13:30 14:40 16:30). When there are few tourists, there may be no large buses in the afternoon, and minibuses will be operated. Just confirm that the terminal is at Chengxi Bus Station and the fare.
There are not many people visiting Famen Temple on weekdays during the off-season, and the exhibition hall of the Treasure House is particularly cold. If you don't want to hire a tour guide, you can visit the Treasure House first to learn about the history of Famen Temple and the underground palace before entering the temple.
There are only a few genuine Famen Ancient Temples. The rest are modern buildings full of strong commercial and money-making atmosphere. They have no Buddhist temple temperament at all. Instead, they look like a nouveau riche compound built by a nouveau riche. The so-called lay Buddhists in the temple often remind everyone of their natal Buddha when explaining. Then, as expected, they are taken to the shopping area, where the so-called lay Buddhists frantically induce everyone to buy natal Buddha amulets, using all the sales tactics you can think of. The new temple is full of commercial areas, and even when leaving the temple, you have to walk on a commercial street full of shops. Monks abstain from greed, but the word "greed" is reflected everywhere in this temple. This so-called Buddhist temple is no longer a pure land. No matter how high its status, reputation, and history are, it is not worth going there again. Even if there are real relics of the Buddha, you can't see them unless it is the first or fifteenth day of the lunar month. Moreover, in such a greedy temple, even the Buddha will cry.
The objects here are naturally not as precious as the relics, but they are also extremely valuable, including the other three "shadow bones", and they can also give a glimpse of the underground palace at that time. In order to allow visitors to get a glimpse of the underground palace, the designer specially framed this underground palace passage with glass. At the same time, the exhibition hall next to it also displays the treasures excavated from the underground palace one by one. However, the exhibition hall is indeed not as exquisite as some museums, but it is worth the money, and the ancient buildings are more in line with my aesthetic taste.
Famen Temple is now divided into three parts: the new temple, the old temple and the Famen Temple Museum. The new area is mainly a place for daily prayers and offerings of the finger bone relics of Sakyamuni Buddha, while the old area is the underground palace and tower where the finger bone relics were discovered, and the museum displays precious cultural relics discovered in the underground palace. In summary, Famen Temple is still worth visiting. As a Buddhist holy place, the underground palace is well protected. After the changes of time, these cultural relics can still appear intact in front of my eyes. I have to admire the skills of the craftsmen at that time. I strongly recommend the Famen Temple scenic spot.
Famen Temple is located in Famen Town, 10 kilometers north of Fufeng County. It was first built in the late Eastern Han Dynasty, flourished in the Northern Wei Dynasty, rose in the Sui Dynasty, and reached its peak in the Tang Dynasty. It is known as the "Royal Temple" and has become a Buddhist holy place admired by the whole country because it houses the finger bone relics of Sakyamuni Buddha.
The best time to visit Famen Temple is on the first or fifteenth day of the lunar month, or on holidays, because the relics are on display at this time. Although you can't see them from a distance, they are rare and worth seeing. The relics of Famen Temple have been accurately recorded in history. They are the only relics in world history that can be clearly traced and proven to be genuine, and they were worshipped by the royal family of the most powerful dynasty in Chinese history for a long time.
Famen Temple is divided into three parts, the ticket price is 120, now 100.
The first part is the ancient temple and pagoda of Famen Temple, and behind it is the Buddhist College, which cannot be visited. Famen Temple takes the "True Body Pagoda" as the central axis of the temple. The architectural structure combines ancient and modern times, and the shape is mainly imitated from the Tang Dynasty. The roof is a flying eaves cylindrical green tile, with a simple style and a quiet environment. The underground palace under the pagoda can be visited and worshipped.
The second part is the Famen Temple Museum, a thematic Buddhist art museum that collects, protects, displays and studies the precious cultural relics unearthed from the underground palace of the Tang Dynasty Pagoda in Famen Temple. It is also worth a visit.
The third part is the newly built Heshi Relic Pagoda of Famen Temple, which is dedicated to the Buddha's finger relic. The Heshi Relic Pagoda of Famen Temple is 148 meters high and looks like two hands clasped together. The hollowed-out part in the middle is a traditional Tang Dynasty pagoda. In front of the pagoda, there is a 1,230-meter-long and 108-meter-wide Buddha Light Avenue. Some landscape sketches and golden Bodhisattva statues based on Buddhist classics are dotted on both sides of the avenue. At the two ends of the avenue are the Pilgrimage Square and the Mountain Gate Square, which can accommodate 100,000 people. The entire scenic area consists of the Mountain Gate Square, the Buddha Light Avenue, the Famen Temple and the Heshi Relic Pagoda. The scenic area implicitly coincides with the digital opportunity: one relic, two pagodas, three divisions, four gates, five time and space, six transcendences, seven squares, eight auspicious signs, nine square kilometers, one hundred thousand sentient beings, a thousand-year-old temple, and a ten-thousand-year Dharma.
The entire tour takes about three to four hours. Whether you are a Buddhist believer, a cultural relic enthusiast, or a tourist, this is a very good tourist attraction and is worth a visit.
The Famen Temple we see now is partially built in the Ming and Qing dynasties, and most of it is an imitation of Tang Dynasty architecture, with exquisite construction and can be regarded as a masterpiece.
Famen Temple, a most legendary temple, is a long-standing Chinese Buddhist holy place with a history of more than 1,800 years. It is known as the ancestor of pagodas and temples in Guanzhong. It is said that Famen Temple was first built in the 11th year of Emperor Ming of the Eastern Han Dynasty (68 AD). Famen Temple built a pagoda because of the relics, and built a temple because of the pagoda. Before the Zhou and Wei Dynasties, it was originally called "Ayuwang Temple". It was renamed "Chengshi Daochang" in the Sui Dynasty and "Famen Temple" in the early Tang Dynasty. It was known as the "Royal Temple" and became a Buddhist holy place admired by the whole country because it housed the finger bone relics of Sakyamuni Buddha.
After the death of Sakyamuni Buddha, his body was cremated and turned into relics. In the third century BC, after Ashoka unified India, in order to promote Buddhism, he divided the Buddha's relics into 84,000 parts and sent them to the ghosts and gods in the southern Jambuvipa and to various countries in the world to build pagodas for worship. There are 19 such places in China, and Famen Temple is the fifth one.
It is said that it was first built in the 11th year of Emperor Ming of the Eastern Han Dynasty (68 AD), with a history of about 1,900 years. It is known as the "ancestor of pagodas and temples in Guanzhong". It was called "Ayuwang Temple" before the Zhou and Wei dynasties, and was renamed "Chengshi Daochang" during the reign of Emperor Wen of the Sui Dynasty, and "Famen Temple" during the reign of Emperor Gaozu of the Tang Dynasty. Famen Temple is known as a royal temple. It has become a Buddhist holy place admired by the whole country because it houses the finger bone relics of Sakyamuni Buddha. The Famen Temple Pagoda is known as the "National Protection Pagoda". The Famen Temple Cultural Scenic Area where the temple is located is a national AAAAA-level tourist attraction.
The underground palace of Famen Temple is the largest underground palace under the pagoda so far. The underground palace of Famen Temple in Baoji has unearthed the highest Buddhist treasures such as the finger bone relics of Sakyamuni Buddha, the bronze pagoda, the eight-layer treasure box, the silver flower double-wheeled twelve-ring staff, etc. The Famen Temple Treasure House has more than 2,000 Tang Dynasty national treasures unearthed from the underground palace of Famen Temple, which is the largest number in the world's temples.
Famen Temple is located in Famen Town, 10 kilometers north of Fufeng County, Shaanxi Province, 110 kilometers east of Xi'an City and 90 kilometers west of Baoji City. It was first built during the Hengling period of the late Eastern Han Dynasty, with a history of more than 1,700 years. It is known as the "ancestor of pagodas and temples in Guanzhong".
The Heshi Pagoda is where the relics of Sakyamuni are kept. It is only on display from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm on Saturdays, Sundays and statutory holidays. There is a raising ceremony at 10 am and a relic lowering ceremony at 4:00 pm... You can arrange your time reasonably and go and have a look.
Famen Temple is located in Fufeng County, Baoji City, Shaanxi Province. It takes about 2 hours to drive from Xi'an. However, I underestimated the traffic jam in Xi'an. I drove for more than an hour but still hadn't left Xi'an. I left at 8 o'clock in the morning and arrived after 11 o'clock.
Famen Temple is said to have been built in the Eastern Han Dynasty. It was called Asoka Temple before the Northern Zhou Dynasty. It was renamed Chengshi Daochang during the reign of Emperor Wen of the Sui Dynasty and Famen Temple during the reign of Emperor Gaozu of the Tang Dynasty. Famen Temple is famous for its Buddha's finger bone relics and is the most important royal temple in the Tang Dynasty. During the 200 years of the Tang Dynasty, eight emperors, including Emperor Gaozong, Empress Wu, Emperor Zhongzong, Emperor Suzong, Emperor Dezong, Emperor Xianzong, Emperor Yizong and Emperor Xizong, welcomed the Buddha's finger relics six times and sent them off twice to offer them. Each welcoming and sending off ceremony was grand and caused a sensation in the court and the public. The emperors paid homage to the Buddha at a level that was unprecedented. When the stupa was being repaired in 1987, an underground palace was discovered, from which the Buddha's finger bone relics, bronze pagoda, eight-layer treasure box, silver flower double-wheeled twelve-ring staff and other supreme Buddhist treasures were unearthed, which shocked the world. More importantly, when Emperor Xizong of the Tang Dynasty, Li Xuan, returned the Buddha's bones for the last time, he used the Tangmi Mandala to make an altar for offering, which is of great value for understanding the lost Tangmi. Tickets are 100 yuan.
The existing buildings in Famen Temple are imitation Tang-style buildings built after 1987. The overall layout is centered on the pagoda, which is different from the current temple layout centered on the Main Hall. It maintains the popular layout before the mid-Tang Dynasty.
The underground palace of Famen Temple contains the essence of Tang Dynasty cultural relics
Famen Temple, also known as the "True Body Pagoda", is located in Fufeng County, Baoji City, Shaanxi Province.
In that life, I traveled around mountains, rivers, and pagodas, not to cultivate for the next life...
It's just huge, and it cost a lot of money to build it.
It exceeded expectations. The temple was magnificent and many treasures were unearthed.
I went there when I was a child. At that time, the Buddha's bones, shadow bones and treasures were still in the underground palace.
This time, the site was much larger, and the Buddha bones were moved to a newly built building. The exhibition hall was empty, and the treasures seemed to be missing.
When you check in at Famen Temple, you can only see the relics from a distance, but not get close to them.
Shocking!! It is worthy of being the ninth wonder. Buddha is always in my heart.
Famen Temple is located in Fufeng County, Baoji City. It is known as the "ancestor of pagodas and temples in Guanzhong". It was called "Ayuwang Temple" before the Zhou and Wei dynasties. It was renamed "Chengshi Daochang" during the reign of Emperor Wen of the Sui Dynasty and "Famen Temple" during the reign of Emperor Gaozu of the Tang Dynasty. It became a Buddhist holy place because it housed the finger bone relics of Sakyamuni Buddha.
The artifacts unearthed from Famen Temple and the underground palace are very nice to see, and for someone like me who likes to study old things, it is still worth it. But the tickets are really too expensive. It's okay to walk at least one kilometer to the temple. The vegetarian buffet in the scenic area is 55 per person, and the price in the scenic area is also acceptable, but when we went there, the food was all gone. Before paying, the staff said that they would add more dishes. I added a pot of flower rolls from the time I ate until I left! ! The whole hall was freezing, with cold dishes and cold rice!
Let alone the door, taking you around in circles, just to promote consumption?
This black spot is overcharging people, a chicken is 280, damn, even the chickens in five-star hotels don't dare to charge so much, everyone must be careful, don't be fooled again
I thought Famen Temple was just like every other temple I've been to before, but when I got there I was shocked by the gate. It was so magnificent! It was a long way from the gate to the Heshi Relic Pagoda (a pagoda for enshrining Buddha's relics). Along the way there were ten golden statues of Bodhisattvas. It was said that one Bodhisattva cost tens of millions.
Entering the Heshi Relic Pagoda, you can see the legendary Buddha's finger relic.
The biggest attraction of Famen Temple is probably the series of cultural relics unearthed from the underground palace.
These precious cultural relics show the determination and piety of the emperor who built this underground palace to protect the Buddha's relics.
Most of the cultural relics seem to have been transported to the Shaanxi History Museum. Among them, the secret color porcelain shown above is said to be worth over 100 million yuan. I couldn't help but take a picture of it.
A particularly bad scenic spot, full of the smell of money, a purely commercial scenic spot. There are large golden Buddha statues on both sides of the scenic road, and tourist sightseeing buses are running along the way.
There is no sign of a safe area for tourists to walk. There is no personal safety guarantee. There are few trees in the scenic area. It is not recommended to go there in summer. There is no place to block the sun, and people can be directly sunburned to death. If you hold an umbrella, the visibility is very poor. The battery cars in the scenic area are chaotically managed, and they turn around at will. There is no safe area, and the personal safety of tourists is not guaranteed. The man-made landscape is magnificent, and there are few ancient relics. It is really not worth a long trip. I especially do not recommend visiting here. I will regret it for the rest of my life. I give a five-star bad review.
The scenic area consists of three parts: the True Body Pagoda, the Famen Temple Museum (exhibiting cultural relics unearthed from the underground palace) and the Heshi Relic Pagoda. The Buddha's finger relic enshrined in Famen Temple is the only real relic of Sakyamuni Buddha found in the world that has been documented and confirmed by inscriptions. The relic is exhibited on Saturdays, Sundays, the first and fifteenth day of the lunar calendar. We visited Famen Temple with awe, but we didn't see the relic exhibition. In fact, the tourist routes along the Famen Temple line mainly include Famen Temple, Qianling Mausoleum and Maoling Mausoleum. The price of a one-day tour is about 250 yuan, but the itinerary is quite tight.
Famen Temple, also known as the "True Body Pagoda", is located in Baoji City, the hometown of Emperor Yan and the hometown of bronze ware. It was named the "Ninth Wonder of the World" by UNESCO in 2004. The underground palace of Famen Temple is the largest underground palace under the pagoda ever seen. The underground palace of Famen Temple in Baoji has unearthed the highest Buddhist treasures such as the finger bone relics of Sakyamuni Buddha, the bronze pagoda, the eight-layer treasure box, the silver flower double-wheeled twelve-ring tin staff, etc. The Famen Temple Treasure House has more than 2,000 Tang Dynasty national treasures unearthed from the underground palace of Famen Temple, which is the largest in the world's temples. The surrounding public facilities are complete and there are places for food and accommodation.
Entering the so-called Famen Temple scenic area, looking at the more modern buildings around, I can't help but be a little dumbfounded. I have been to Famen Temple many years ago, but this time I revisited it and it felt like I didn't recognize it. In fact, the current scenic area has been expanded a lot, with some new buildings added, and the real Famen Temple is hidden deep inside.
After crossing Foguang Avenue, it takes another five minutes to walk to Famen Temple. Here, it is recommended that if you travel during the hot summer, you can still choose to take an electric car, as this distance is not short.
Famen Temple, I heard that the scenic area is very large, so I took the elderly with me, so I chose to enter through the west gate of the scenic area, where the entrance is Famen Temple and the Treasure House. As soon as the car stopped, an enthusiastic boss came up to us and said that his family runs a restaurant, and the price is reasonable, ten yuan for a bowl of noodles, and we will visit the scenic area after dinner. The old man was taken into the restaurant by the enthusiastic boss, and he listened to the boss's recommendation and ate his noodles. When he paid the bill, a bowl of ordinary oil-splashed noodles with a little chopped green onion cost 28 yuan, and a bowl of cold noodles cost 20 yuan, which is ridiculously expensive. After entering Famen Temple, the temple is really depressed, and there are few monks. Entering the cultural scenic area next door is another feeling. It is atmospheric, but the traces of commercialization are too strong, only haha. The travel experience inside and outside the scenic area is too bad, I will never come again, I will never come again!!!
It happened to be the first day of the lunar year when the Buddha's bones and relics rose from the underground palace. I saw the holy objects in the Heshi Pagoda. Because it has the only existing finger bone relics of Sakyamuni in China, it has established the status of Famen Temple in the field of Buddhism. The other three bones and cultural relics are displayed in the Treasure Hall. The scenic area is open and filled with incense, and the buildings are solemn and magnificent. One of the must-see attractions in Xi'an.
The ticket is 100 yuan per person. The scenic area has a small bus, which costs 30 yuan per person. The small bus is a bit of a rip-off, as it does not distinguish between round trips, and if there are no children or the elderly, there is no need to take the small bus.
Went on October 3rd, a big family, very good
During the Spring Festival, I went to Xi'an to play. In addition to the city, I also visited the Terracotta Warriors on the east line, Qianling Mausoleum and Famen Temple on the west line. The first stop was Famen Temple. I don't like to join a tour group, and the hotel I booked was next to the train station, so I traveled on my own. I took the T117 train at 8 o'clock in the morning on the second day of the New Year. It took 47 minutes to get to Yangling Railway Station. Yangling Bus Station was on the right side of the train station. I got on the minibus to Fufeng Bus Station. The journey of more than 20 kilometers took more than an hour. This short-distance minibus picked up and dropped off passengers all the way. At Fufeng Bus Station, you don't need to leave the station to transfer to the special bus to Famen Temple. In fact, although you have to transfer along the way, it is still seamless and not troublesome. We got off at the Buddhist Culture Square and walked to start the tour of the Famen Temple scenic area. You can also get off at the bus terminal, which is Famen Temple. The Famen Temple Scenic Area is divided into two parts, the Famen Temple part and the Famen Temple Cultural Scenic Area next to it. The cultural scenic area is newly built, mainly a large square plus the landmark building Heshi Stupa, which gives people a feeling of grandeur. After buying tickets from the gate of the cultural scenic area and entering the scenic area, there is a battery car to the Heshi Stupa. If you are not in a hurry, you don’t need to take it. We walked all the way to the Heshi Stupa. This is a tour. The Heshi Stupa contains the relics unearthed from the Famen Temple, which are very precious. It is exaggerated to build such a grand building to store and exhibit the relics. The relics are only exhibited on holidays and weekends. Pay attention to the travel time. The relics are very small, and they are just passing by in a long line... It’s better to look at my photos as a benefit for everyone. After leaving the Heshi Stupa, there is a road in the middle of the square connecting to Famen Temple. Famen Temple is not big either. There are two places, Famen Ancient Temple and Treasure House. The most famous is the tower with underground palace where the relics were found. After coming out of Famen Temple, we went to find a bus to Fufeng Bus Station. Due to time constraints, we did not return to Yangling to take the train. Instead, we directly boarded the bus back to Xi'an at Fufeng Bus Station and ended our tour of Famen Temple.
If Famen Temple wasn’t included in every day trip, I wouldn’t go, it’s too commercial, you know.
This tower is restored, but the underground palace is real! The underground palace is full of treasures, and there is also a real Sakyamuni relic! However, the underground palace is very small and cannot be entered. You can only look at it from the side~
It is said that the high-speed rail has been built, and the distance is getting closer and closer. I came here once when I was a child, and decades have passed in a flash. A tower was built for the relics. It is really a waste of money. Unfortunately, there is the only finger bone relic of Sakyamuni in the world. It is probably only visible with a telescope at that distance. It is not good enough after all. I came all the way here, but there is still a big gap between publicity and guidance. I need to work hard. I can't achieve the enlightenment of learning and gaining wisdom by making money. Having monopoly resources does not mean you can sit back and relax. After all, people vote with their feet now. If it works, people will naturally flock to it. If it doesn't, it will be like chicken ribs and no longer have any thoughts. It's a pity for Xi'an and even Shaanxi, this precious land.
I visited the underground palace and the museum where the treasures are displayed. This museum is still refrigerated by cabinets. All the exhibition halls are stuffy and hot. The visiting experience is very bad. There are two exquisite secret color porcelains on display in the Shaanxi Museum. I personally think that this place is a trip that can be abandoned. Of course, Buddhist believers are excluded. As for the newly built Heshi Tower and the performance, I skipped it directly.
Next to the temple is the newly built Famen Temple Hall, where the Buddha's relics are placed. It is a fusion of modern and traditional elements, standing majestically at the end of the square.
This is a very tricky attraction. Of course, if you are a Buddhist, you can go to this place to see the real body relics. It is worth it! But for me, it costs money and wastes time. If you want to see the toilet, you can come. This is the most magnificent and luxurious I have ever seen! It is about 300 square meters, more than ten meters high, with complete facilities and exquisite decoration. It can be regarded as an eye-opener. I respect Buddha, understand faith, Buddha saves all living beings and opens the door widely, but this is too commercialized, which is completely different from what I imagined. I think the Buddha would not like such an environment, and it is impossible to save all living beings here, nor would it make people feel awe. I would rather pay homage to the relics in a thousand wastelands. This
The building is magnificent and imposing, but all of them are newly built. There are people selling incense and donating merit everywhere. It is very secular. I wanted to see the real Buddha relics when I came here, but they were only exhibited on the first and fifteenth day of the lunar month. The small transportation costs 30 yuan per trip, 60 yuan for a round trip, and the total distance is one kilometer. It is a pit. I don’t recommend it.
It was my first time to go to Famen Temple. It was magnificent and large in scale. But the road to the Buddha Light Avenue was really too long, which was a big test of physical strength! If you want to save some energy or have elderly people at home, it is recommended to navigate to the west gate of Famen Temple. There, as soon as you enter the gate, you will see the Treasure Pavilion, Famen Temple, and the Heshi Relic Pagoda. The journey is shorter!!!
As a famous temple in China, it was a royal temple in the Tang Dynasty and has rich collections in its underground palace. It is certainly worth a visit.
The Buddha's Dharma is boundless, and the Buddha's light shines everywhere. I was lucky to see the Buddha's finger relic. Friends who have been there must watch "The Past of Dharmamen". The scene changes one by one, and the audience moves to watch. Sometimes the actors are right next to you. The underground palace of Famen Temple has not been destroyed, which is the credit of those who risked their lives to protect the Dharma.
Located in Fufeng County, Baoji City, it is also known as Fufeng Famen Temple. The entire scenic area consists of many parts, including the Famen Temple Museum, Famen Temple, and the Heshi Relics Pagoda. It is a Buddhist holy place, famous for its Buddha's finger bones, and there are endless pilgrims. The construction of the scenic area is very grand and the transportation is relatively convenient, but there are many people, and some are too concerned about interests. If you believe in Buddhism, this place is a very good place to worship.
This is a big difference compared to the Tibetan Buddhist temples I saw in Tibet. There are not so many people worshipping devoutly, and no one prostrates themselves. It may also be a matter of time. The abbot is not here now. There are also few monks. But it is very big, and it is said that many people come to the annual Dharma Assembly.
During the summer vacation, the admission ticket for the high school entrance examination and college entrance examination can be used to exempt the ticket for Famen Temple and the Famen Past Program
It is recommended that this trip be arranged on weekends and major holidays to see the relics
The whole Famen Temple is super big. There is an electric car for 30 yuan per person. Don't save money! It was built with an investment of 2.5 billion yuan. It is super magnificent. It is worth seeing to understand the past and present of Famen Temple. The underground palace under the Famen Temple Pagoda was opened in 1987, and 2499 treasures from the Tang Dynasty were unearthed. The performance was very good. The only thing is that there are no stools. You have to stand and watch the performance throughout. It's very tiring, but you understand it very clearly.
The ticket price for the Famen Temple scenic area is 120 yuan. I asked the ticket seller what time the scenic area closes. The answer was: "The main halls close at 5:30 and the area will be cleared at 6 o'clock." It was already 4:40 pm when we got there. Braving the rain and holding an umbrella, we hurried to find the underground palace where the relics are kept. There were quite a lot of visitors there, all of whom were tour groups led by tour guides. After coming out of the underground palace of relics, we hurried to the treasure house in another courtyard. Because time was too tight, we had to pick the main ones to visit. In the treasure house, I followed the tour guide to listen to the explanation for a while. The exhibits in the treasure house are all top-notch cultural relics. If you don't listen to the explanation and just walk around and see nothing, you won't understand anything, which is equivalent to a wasted trip.
There are many treasures in the Treasure House, but the time for visiting is limited. We only saw a small part. The staff urged the tour guide to take the tourists away, and all the halls were closed at 5:30.
The tour was like going to a market. The normal tour procedure should be: first watch the singing and dancing performance, which tells the history of Famen Temple. Then visit the exhibition. See the treasure house and the underground palace. The whole tour should take about three hours.
We entered the underground palace in one step. We didn't watch the performance or the exhibition. We spent less than one-third of the 120 yuan ticket. The total time was less than an hour.
It is about 120 kilometers away from Xi'an, a one-hour drive (I wonder, if it is a one-hour drive now, how long would it take the ancient emperors to come here to worship Buddha? Was it built so far away because of feng shui or to highlight piety?).
There is a bus from Famen Temple to Xi'an at 17:00, but it is not written on the bus stop (it is safer to return early). Also, the time written on it is not enough to arrive in 90 minutes. We took two buses in the morning and evening and the fastest one would take 100 minutes.
If you miss the bus from Famen Temple to Xi'an, you can take a taxi to Fufeng County to take the bus back to Xi'an. If you book tickets online, you can enter directly without picking up the ticket and show your ID card. If you book a vegetarian meal online, you need to exchange the ticket at the mountain gate, which is the new temple gate of Famen Temple.
On the left side of the mountain gate is the ticket exchange point, and the self-service vegetarian restaurant is also here (50 meters inside).
It was already 11 o'clock when we arrived at the mountain gate. There was a performance of Dharma's Past at 11:30 and the second one at 14:30 (there is only one performance per day except weekends and holidays, at 14:30, and there are no performances on Mondays).
The Famen Temple was actually not very large originally, but later a large area was expanded to the west, making it much taller and more majestic.
Famen Temple, underground palace relics! Exquisite! This year is the 30th anniversary of the rediscovery of the Buddha's finger bone relics! I was lucky enough to see the real thing in the underground palace! Out of respect, I only took pictures of the underground palace relics in Famen Temple. Everything is very exquisite.
Please note that on June 18, 2018, the exhibition hall where the Baohan Zen Staff and Wu Zetian's clothes are placed will be closed for a few days due to electrical problems. The ticket price remains unchanged. Please go to another place first and make an appointment on another day.
Famen Temple, known as the ninth wonder of the world, is very spectacular. The Famen Temple Underground Palace is the oldest, largest and highest-level Buddhist pagoda underground palace discovered in the world so far. It is very large, and friends with poor physical strength can take the shuttle bus at the door to go there.
Famen Temple is quite big. We went there on the fifteenth day of the lunar month, so we had the opportunity to see the real Buddha relics. There were many sincere people kneeling in the temple chanting scriptures!
I went to Famen Temple to see the relics. The relics in Famen Temple can only be seen on Saturdays, Sundays and the 15th day of the lunar calendar. I also bought a ferry ticket because it was so far away and so sunny!
A Buddhist holy place, but a commercial operation, without the atmosphere of a religious venue. I don't know what the tourism department of Baoji did, turning a Buddhist temple into a cash cow. The transportation to Famen Temple is very convenient. It is recommended to stay near Baoji Railway Station and take a bus three stops west to Baoji West Bus Station, where there are regular buses to Famen Temple.
The Buddha's relics are currently enshrined there. Famen Temple houses countless treasures, comparable to a museum.
Then we went to Famen Temple. I had heard of a TV series, "Famen Temple Conjecture" starring Yuan Li, and that was the first time I knew about Famen Temple.
At that time, information was not well developed and there was no opportunity to do homework in advance. Unexpectedly, this was the most amazing part of this trip.

Famen Temple is really good. The tower is designed by the designer of Taiwan 101 Tower. The hotel I stayed in also provided VIP services throughout the trip, and I could even go to the top of the tower. It is also a holy place worth visiting. It is also a good idea to rent a car from Baoji for self-driving tour. On the way back, I drove to Taibai Mountain and took a hot spring bath. A 3-day tour is fine if you are more relaxed, or a 4-day tour is fine if you are more relaxed.
A Buddhist holy place, famous for the relics of Sakyamuni Buddha;
You should visit both the stupa and the Famen Temple.
Buddha relics are not on display every day, it depends on your luck.
You should go into the underground palace and take a look.
There are no service areas around and it is quite big inside, but there are sightseeing buses.
This is a super big temple with Buddha's relics. You need to take a battery car from the entrance to the inside. Go in with a heart that respects other people's beliefs. There are tall Buddha statues on both sides of the road, exquisite and solemn. The first stop is equivalent to a museum, which displays various instruments and relics. I have always thought that relics are round when watching Journey to the West, but it turns out that they are cylindrical. We visited three shadow bones, but we couldn't see the spirit bones. They are only exhibited on the first and fifteenth days of the lunar month, or on major memorial festivals. But the various things inside are still worth watching. The second stop is the Heshi Relics Pagoda of Famen Temple. Because I didn't have time and it was raining, I just watched it from a distance. Spectacular.
Famen Temple consists of two parts: the new site and the old site. The old site is not very big, and only the underground palace is worth visiting. If you only look at the appearance of other temples and pagodas, you can visit them in one hour. I booked the tickets on Ctrip. I could enter directly by swiping my ID card without exchanging tickets. It was very convenient. Children had to buy tickets at the window, but there was no need to queue up to buy tickets at the old site. You can refer to my travel notes at http://www.mafengwo.cn/u/93757466/note.html.
Scenic area.
The underground palace of Famen Temple is the largest underground palace under the pagoda so far. The underground palace of Famen Temple in Baoji has unearthed the Buddha's finger bone relics, bronze pagoda, eight-layer treasure box, silver flower double wheel twelve ring tin staff and other supreme Buddhist treasures. The Famen Temple Treasure House has more than 2,000 Tang Dynasty national treasures unearthed from the underground palace of Famen Temple, which is the largest number in the world's temples. The only regret is that due to the protection of the underground palace, Famen Temple is no longer open to tourists.
Famen Temple, formerly known as Ashoka Temple, was built in the late Eastern Han Dynasty, during the reign of Emperor Hengling, with a history of more than 1,700 years. It is known as the "ancestor of pagodas and temples in Guanzhong". It was founded in the Northern Wei Dynasty, flourished in the Sui Dynasty, and reached its peak in the Tang Dynasty. It is known as the "Royal Temple". It has become a Buddhist holy place admired by the whole country because it houses the finger bone relics of Sakyamuni Buddha. The underground palace and exhibits are particularly wonderful. I was lucky to see 3 relics. The real relics of the Buddha can only be seen on the first and fifteenth day of the lunar month!
The new temple of Famen Temple was designed by Li Zuyuan. I don’t like it very much. It feels too high and mighty, and the environment is very uncomfortable. It is far inferior to some old temples with towering ancient trees.
This is the place where Master Xuanzang made his debut. It has a rich religious culture. Friends who have come from afar, please come and experience it slowly! ! ! ! !
I have heard of the Famen Temple for a long time, and it is even more famous when I see it. I only knew that the underground palace of Famen Temple was very famous. I found that there is a new giant square with an area of about 140,000 square meters, and a 1,230-meter-long and 108-meter-wide Buddha Light Avenue. It is said that this is a way to become a Buddha, and it is also the main landscape of the scenic area. There are also treasure halls, Tang Dynasty underground palaces, etc. in the Famen Temple scenic area, which are all worth seeing.
It was better than expected. I wanted to give up, but I still wanted to go! The new entrance was just when the ginkgo tree was falling leaves! There were a group of pigeons under the tree! It was great! I must ask a tour guide to explain it so that I can have a better understanding of history! I went on a weekday and didn’t see the Buddha’s hand bone relics, which was a bit regrettable! I watched the mobile situational stage play "The Past of Famen"! I know more about Famen Temple! Mind everyone to watch it if you have time. One show every day, at 2 pm!
It is mainly famous for the Sakyamuni relics, but they are only on display for a few days a year. The place is big, but there is not much to see. The appearance of the Heshi Relic Pagoda is very majestic, but the temple is now also a place for prayer. For people with weak faith, it is not a good place.
If you go to Xi'an, you must visit this route. Famen Temple has many stories and unearthed cultural relics. Even if you don't have religious beliefs in this area, you should go and see it. It's very interesting. Moreover, you can see the real relics of Tathagata on the first and fifteenth day of the lunar month, Saturdays and Sundays. It's worth the trip.
Famen Temple Museum is one of the best museums in China, especially with a large number of unique Tang Dynasty cultural relics, including three of the first national treasures: the gilded bronze pagoda, the twelve-ring staff, and the eight-layered relic box. They are all artifacts that must be seen:)
In addition, there are a large number of Tang Dynasty Buddhist ritual vessels that cannot be seen anywhere else, as well as unique Tang Dynasty tea sets, all of which are very well preserved, so it is also called China's "Shosoin".
Unfortunately, the entire Famen Temple is poorly managed. There was even a dead fly by the staff, and the gilded Mandala holding the true body that I most wanted to see was a replica.
First of all, this scenic spot is divided into two parts, the underground palace and the rebuilt tower, and the newly built Heshi Relics Pagoda. We took the so-called special line (I will complain later) from Xi'an West Bus Station to the ticket entrance near the underground palace area. When we walked from the intersection to the ticket point, we met an aunt who forced us to buy incense. We refused and were scolded by the mad dog in the end. Then we walked to the ticket point and were told that the Buddha's bones and relics were not on display that day. We called the staff in advance and asked them to go on display that day. We were deceived. There is no way. Since we are here, we went in to visit the underground palace and the museum, and then walked to the newly built Heshi Relics Pagoda. As soon as we walked in, we saw people selling flowers. They said that they were selling orchids to attract tourists to buy them as tribute to the Buddha. Then three or four staff members set up stalls in front of the Buddha statue. When they saw someone coming, they sold tribute rice or something. If we walked further, they would solicit customers to eat vegetarian food. After visiting many scenic spots in China, I still feel that the degree of commercialization of the Buddhist temples here surprised me. Do you know what it means to be restless? When you just want to pray, there are several people around you: Buy rice? Twenty! Buy rice? Twenty! Buy rice? Twenty! ……………………
On our final return trip to Xi'an, the so-called shuttle bus that we were told would leave at the hour actually made us wait from around 2 o'clock until almost 5 o'clock before it started!
I have to say that the underground palace and museum of Famen Temple are very interesting places, but with such service, who would dare to come again or recommend others to come? ?
I didn’t know much about Famen Temple before I went there, but after I came back I watched a lot of documentaries. It is really a magical place with stories and "magic power".
In the dark, the relic was born! I learned about the story of the relic worship during the Tang Dynasty. There are also many secret color porcelains unearthed, and a story about 1313...
It is really a magical, wonderful and interesting story!
But the commercialization of the export is too serious, especially in this sacred place, there are at least more than 1 kilometer of shops at the export......
It's such a scam.
I suggest that after watching some documentaries, you go to the tower or the exhibition hall next to it, it is very interesting!
Be sure to watch the documentary first! ! ! !
