It is the former residence of Gao Yuesong. Gao Yuesong’s ancestral home is Zhenjiang, Jiangsu Province. In the tenth year of Tongzhi in the Qing Dynasty, his son passed the imperial examination and was awarded a plaque with the words “Bangyan Jidi” by the emperor.
From the 14th year of Chongzhen to the 10th year of Tongzhi in the Qing Dynasty, seven generations of the Gao family served as officials. The main part of this courtyard was built during the Chongzhen period of the Ming Dynasty, and it has a history of more than 400 years.
The courtyard has Ming and Qing architectural art, traditional residential couplets, brick carving art, folk paper-cutting, shadow play, porcelain and other souvenirs with Shaanxi characteristics.

On the bustling Beiyuanmen Street, there is a narrow courtyard gate in the middle, which does not seem to be very eye-catching among the various restaurants and stalls. There is a plaque hanging on the lintel, which reads - Second Place in the Imperial Examination. Big red lanterns are hung on both sides, with the words - Gao Family Courtyard.
The owner, Gao Yuesong, was born in an official family and was fond of poetry and books, so this small and exquisite Shaanxi ancient residence also exudes a strong bookish atmosphere. Those exquisite brick carvings, couplets, halls, stages, embroidery buildings, and corridors once outlined a century of family life. Now the beautiful things have been scattered, the buildings are empty, and they have disappeared in the rush of time. This place is not as magnificent as the Wang Family Courtyard in Shanxi, nor as exquisite and delicate as the Zhang Hall and Shen Hall in Jiangnan. The sunlight that seems to be there and not there casts shadows on the bricks and stones, which are mottled and have a sense of antiquity.
Gao Family Courtyard-a wonderful world that takes you back to shadow puppetry!
Xi'an is an ancient city with thousands of years of history and culture! The city wall and the Terracotta Warriors have shocked the world! This place is definitely worth your visit!
After climbing the city wall and walking through the Terracotta Warriors, I felt like I had traveled through time! The historical heritage is profound...
I chose this place today. What particularly attracted me was that this courtyard has been around for more than 400 years, but after entering, I saw that these relics still retain their charm! Gaojia Courtyard is located in the bustling commercial street of Xi'an, Beiyuanmen Muslim Snack Street. It covers an area of 4.2 acres, with a total living area of 2,517 square meters and 86 houses, of which 56 are now open to the public. This courtyard is a three-courtyard four-entry brick-wood structure quadrangle. Its main body was built during the Chongzhen period of the Ming Dynasty, and it has a history of more than 400 years. There are also shadow puppets and old tunes inside! The performing masters inside are very dedicated! Although the shadow play is only 10 minutes long. But it is exquisite and wonderful! At first, I saw the comments saying that the first three rows of shadow puppets are charged, and they constantly ask customers to consume. In fact, the first two rows are charged for seating, and the waiter's attitude is not bad. Before sitting down, I told him that I looked at the consumption brand and it was not expensive. The minimum consumption started at 10 yuan. I thought it was a sky-high price at first, but after experiencing it, it is definitely worth the ticket price!
I hope these skills can continue to be passed down!
Gao's Courtyard is located at an inconspicuous entrance in Huimin Street. You can see it if you look carefully. Usually, a group of people who look like tourists looking in and standing there is Gao's Courtyard.
Buying tickets online is five yuan cheaper and can be used immediately. Student ID is not supported for half price. I only chose to watch the shadow play and Laoqiang, and it turned out to be worth going.
It is recommended to go in after dark, when the lights are on and the scenery is more beautiful.
Play time: one hour.
In order to experience our Chinese traditional culture, I specifically looked up places where I could watch shadow puppet shows in Xi'an. After reading some recommendations, I decisively chose Gao Family Courtyard.
Location: Gao Family Courtyard is located on Huimin Street. It is particularly inconspicuous in the crowded Huimin Street. We found it only through navigation.
Ticket price: There are various packages at China-TravelNote, including tickets + shadow play/old tune/rubbing, etc. You can choose them together. In the end, we chose tickets + shadow play (25 yuan/person)
On the day we went, the room was full of foreign children (probably a school study tour group), all sitting upright waiting to watch the shadow play (classmate Eryu expressed deep doubts whether the children could understand it)
The first three rows of seats are VIP seats. You need to buy a 10-yuan shadow puppet souvenir in the store. I feel the price is very affordable. The small photo frame is also quite delicate. You can buy one as a souvenir.
The show started for nearly 10 minutes and there was only music.
The whole audience waited quietly for the prelude to end.
Later I found out that the acting teacher had forgotten the time
Located in Huifang with convenient transportation, there is a large flow of people around, so please pay attention to the safety of your property. Because I bought the annual tourist ticket including Gaojia Courtyard, I went in for a walk. It is similar to those courtyards in Shanxi, mainly to visit the details and folk customs.
After lunch, we took a taxi back to the Muslim Street next to the hotel because we wanted to show our daughter the Shaanxi-style shadow play. There was still an hour before the shadow play started, so we asked a guide to take us to visit the Gao Family Courtyard. If you are interested, you can take a look. The Gao Family Courtyard has gone through a hundred years of vicissitudes and is one of the most well-preserved residential courtyards in Xi'an. Shadow Play - The Three Beats of the White Bone Demon. Those who speak Shaanxi dialect can understand the general meaning, which is unique. It was not enough in just 15 minutes. The first two rows need to consume tea, and the consumption of 10 yuan/person is definitely a seat in the first row.
If you have enough time, it is worth watching the shadow play.
I recommend everyone to go and watch the shadow play. It costs 30 yuan per show (including tickets) and the show takes about ten minutes. There are handmade shadow puppets for sale, so you can buy one as a souvenir.
It is on the side road of Huimin Street. You can see the sign when you look up after entering the side road. It is easy to find.
During this trip, I did not visit the inner courtyard of Gao Family Compound, where you can watch Qinqiang opera, shadow puppetry and other performances.
What attracted me most on Huimin Street was Gao's Courtyard. When you go to Huimin Street, you must go in and listen to a high-pitched Qinqiang opera and watch a wonderful shadow play. These intangible cultural heritages can really be called art, solid and exquisite, passionately and proudly expressing their own regional culture. I didn't buy souvenirs from scenic spots before, but after watching the shadow play, I decisively bought one to enjoy as a souvenir, regardless of whether it was really handmade or mass-produced! Gao's mansion is different from the Jiangnan gardens. The high-class families have hidden rooms through the gate walls. They are the storytellers of this house. Every inch of land, every brick and tile, and every window carving contains the imprint of history.
Gao's Courtyard is the closest house to the ancient wealthy family that we can see. Compared with palaces, this one is more down-to-earth.
Journey to the West, few people watch it, but it is very exciting. Traditional cultural skills really cannot be lost.
This is the Bangyan Jidi Mansion, located at the North Gate, I was not very interested and did not go in
This classical residential building is located next to a busy street. The door is very small and it is easy to miss if you don't pay attention. It is very suitable for taking pictures. There are also performances inside for an extra fee.
Since we saw online that we could watch shadow play here, we bought tickets and came in to take a look. I didn't expect that this place is quite suitable for taking pictures!
There is an alley near the bottom of Huimin Street. Turn around the alley and you will see Gaojia Courtyard. There are two performances in Gaojia Courtyard, Qinqiang and shadow play. The ticket price for Gaojia Courtyard is 15 yuan. You need to buy tickets for shadow play and Qinqiang separately, both of which are 15 yuan each.
The recommended visiting time is 1 hour. It is located near Xi'an Jiasan Muslim Dumpling Restaurant, with a Muslim snack street outside the door. Gao's Courtyard has a feeling of being hidden in the city.
There were shadow plays inside. The one we watched was "Pigsy Carrying His Wife On His Back". It was performed in Shaanxi dialect. I couldn't understand a word of it.
The owner's belongings are displayed in the house.
It is the residence of a high-ranking official in ancient times. If you buy a tour ticket and shadow play package for 30, you can watch the shadow play and visit the whole courtyard. The shadow play is pretty good and worth seeing!
Gao's Courtyard is the former residence of Gao Yuesong. This house witnessed the rise of a family. Since the first generation of Gao Bangyan was granted this house by Emperor Chongzhen, it has a history of more than 400 years. The main structure of the house has not changed. It is a quadrangle with three courtyards and four entrances of brick and wood structure. It has the unique charm of Guanzhong folk houses and allows people today to get a glimpse of the clan life in the ancient Gaomen Courtyard. The Gao family made their fortune through the imperial examination. There is a studio for woodblock rubbing. It takes about half an hour to rub a God of Wealth. The process is a bit literary and artistic. It feels a bit like the woodcut New Year pictures of Taohuawu. There are several entrances to Gao's Courtyard. We entered from No. 77 Xiyangshi and exited from No. 200 Beiyuanmen. Beiyuanmen should be the main entrance. There is another entrance and exit at No. 125 Huajue Lane. In short, there are many doors.
This is a well-preserved three-courtyard, four-entry residential building. There are two starlings in the courtyard, which attracts many children to chat with them. There are shadow play and Qinqiang performances at different times in the courtyard. Since I brought my children here, of course I watched the shadow play. Although the lyrics are in Shaanxi dialect, the funny plot still makes my son laugh from time to time.
There are shadow play and Lao Qiang performances in Gao's courtyard. There are shadow play performances every hour every day. The two performances are interspersed at the original location of Gao's theater. You need to buy tickets separately. We bought tickets for tickets and shadow play tickets. The performance was about ten minutes. The performance was "Zhu Bajie Carrying His Wife". The whole performance was in Shaanxi dialect. There were no subtitles. The sound was too low and I couldn't understand it at all. Just watch the fun. And you have to arrive at the performance venue in advance, because the seats are limited, and you have to stand at the back to watch if you go on time.
It is similar to ordinary houses. Students who know about houses can take a look at it by themselves, and those who don’t understand it can listen to the explanation.
The gate of Gao's compound faces east, so the wing rooms are north-facing and south-facing. The north wing has windows facing south, which has good lighting and is where the son lives. The south wing has poor lighting and is where the daughter lives, which also reflects the feudal society of male superiority and female inferiority. Therefore, the north wing is higher than the south wing.
Here we also learned about the ancients’ knowledge of wells. The smaller the well mouth, the higher the rank and status of the person. Ordinary people’s wells have large well mouths. The Gao family’s well is a small well.
The Gao Family Courtyard is very small, and apart from watching the shadow play, it takes about 30 minutes to complete the tour.
Gaojiayuan is right inside Huimin Street. We also watched a shadow play in Gaojiayuan. In order to sit in the front, we had to spend money. As long as we spend money, we can sit in the first two rows.
I really like the performing artists here! I feel like they are enjoying themselves, and this enthusiasm has impacted me! I really want to show them my photos and tell them how contagious you are in my eyes! This is my ideal way of enjoying life! But I hesitated for a moment and it became a regret.
I went to see the shadow play. It was too late to listen to the Qinqiang. The shadow play lasted ten minutes, and it was basically once an hour. It was worth watching.
Gao Family Courtyard, with its antique buildings, is very beautiful and suitable for taking photos. It has shadow play and Qinqiang performances. I especially recommend the ancient version rubbing experience, which allows you to get close to traditional culture. The experience is very fun, and the works you rub out are particularly fulfilling, which is great.
Gao's Courtyard was the residence of the second-place winner of the imperial examination. Now there are shadow play and Laoqiang performances in it. Shadow play can be seen everywhere, and I have seen it, but I am quite interested in the Laoqiang with its local characteristics. I have only seen it on TV before. There is a Laoqiang performance in just five minutes. It is really better to come at the right time than to come early. There are not many people watching the performance, and there are foreigners.
The Laoqiang performance here is relatively cheap, 45 yuan including the ticket. The special teahouse performances I searched online are basically 100+ yuan, and the duration here is also shorter. But I think this kind of performance is hard to understand, you can only feel the atmosphere. If it lasts too long, I am afraid that you will get aesthetic fatigue. It is better to appreciate it for 15 minutes, just a taste, and it will be endless aftertaste.
The Laoqiang performances are all performed by older people. The radio said that the average age is over 70. There is an auntie sitting on the side and beating the clappers for each performance. It can be said that she is a regular performer. There are three performances in total. The first one is about farmers' harvest and production, the second one is pure music, and the third one is about war. It is passionate, down-to-earth, and down-to-earth.
This mansion is actually not very big. It is hung with big red lanterns and is actually a bit dim at night.
Beiyuanmen, Huimin Street is almost at Xiyang City. The roadside is not very eye-catching. It is easy to miss the Guanzhong folk houses with great charm. Those who like it will find the beauty of many buildings, while those who are not interested will feel cheated and can't find any points to appreciate. In fact, the ticket price is a bit expensive. But everyone has their own opinions. There are also shadow puppets to watch.
There are shadow play and Lao Qiang in the courtyard, and the ticket is 60 yuan. Our time was just right, and Lao Qiang started when we entered the door. It was a traditional culture (although I couldn't understand it), and then we visited the main structure of Gao's courtyard, felt what a wealthy family in the Qing Dynasty looked like, and then waited to watch the shadow play... I have to say a little bit of caution, try not to wear shorts in the summer night, I had 10 lumps on my legs that night, I went straight to the store to buy a bottle of Fengyoujing after watching the shadow play.
Gao's Courtyard is a good place to digest food
Take a look at the ancient courtyard and watch a shadow play
It's not show time yet, set an alarm and go somewhere else first
There is a small exhibition hall with interesting objects on display.
The alarm reminds us that it's time to go watch the shadow play
The sound effects and dialogues are recorded, and I can't understand most of the old Shaanxi accents, but it's still novel and still makes me laugh.
The movie is called "The Peddler". The story is about a man and a woman who have decided to get married but have never met each other. The man, who is also a peddler, goes to the woman's house and pretends to sell groceries to lure her out to meet him.
A good play, but I translated it into this
Opposite the shadow play is the stage used for the Lao Qiang performance
A long time ago, my family watched movies here.
I remember hearing the tour guide next to me say,
In ancient times, men were superior to women, so the young master's room was bigger than the young lady's room, and the roof was slightly higher.
The wing rooms on both sides of the courtyard are typical Shaanxi dwellings with the feature of "half of the house is covered". The hall is of the hard-roofed and exposed-column and overhanging-eaves style, and is symmetrical front to back and east to west. The upper room is a two-story building with hard-roofed and exposed-column and overhanging-eaves.
There are also special Laoqiang performances (30/person) and shadow puppet shows (15/person).
We have watched shadow play since we were young. The courtyard is a brick-and-wood quadrangle with three courtyards and four entrances.
It is an old house of the Gao family in the Qing Dynasty. Now it is open to show the folk customs of Shaanxi. There are Qinqiang performances and shadow play performances every day. The actors are all elderly people in their seventies and eighties. The tickets are not expensive, but the performances are expensive, and there is no discount. We spent 217 yuan on tickets for three adults and one child. The cost-effectiveness is very low, you can go or not.
The courtyard is very unique and worth a visit. You can also watch shadow puppet shows.
One of the best-preserved folk houses in Xi'an, it is the residence of Jinshi Gao Yuesong. It is located inside the north gate of Huifang Street, in the middle of Yilu Food Street. If you don't look carefully, you may miss it. Because there is no Gao Family Courtyard written on the door, I saw it only after I noticed the shadow play at the door. The ticket is 15 yuan/person, and you can also buy tickets for shadow play and Qinqiang. Shadow play + ticket is 30 yuan/person, plus Qinqiang is 60 yuan/person, it's different, it depends on which one you want to watch to buy tickets. I don't understand shadow play very well.
I took a look at the door. The courtyard was a bit eerie and scary at night, so I didn't dare to go in.
Friends who are interested in Qinqiang and shadow puppetry can choose to listen and watch them during the day.
Be sure to calculate the time before buying tickets. Not worth it, the shadow play and Huaying time difference is too long, the salesperson tried his best to recommend, but did not inform the time, once the ticket is sold, it is not refundable.
It's worth visiting. It feels like walking into a TV series. But if you go there at night and there are not many people, it's a bit scary.
The shadow puppet grandpa and grandma sang very well, and the Qinqiang grandpa was like a tribute to the old artist
Gao Family Courtyard is located on Huimin Street, roughly opposite the Huimin Middle School. When you walk in from a small intersection, you will find that there is a different world inside.
Student tickets are half price, 15/person, and there is an additional charge for watching shadow puppet shows.
I walked around the Gao family compound and watched a shadow play. I really couldn't understand the singing in Shaanxi dialect!
It seems to have been a famous compound before.
There are old tunes and shadow puppetry.
My friends and I only watched the shadow play and visited the courtyard.
Tickets plus shadow play are 25 yuan per person
The combined ticket for visiting Gao's Courtyard and Qinqiang performance is 45 yuan. The performance is awesome. Although I don't quite understand it, I still have to give a thumbs up to these old artists.
Walking along the Muslim Street, you will find the Gao Family Courtyard, a quiet and high-rise building in the bustling city.
Gao Family Courtyard is the former residence of Gao Yuesong. Gao Yuesong's ancestral home is Zhenjiang, Jiangsu. In the 10th year of Tongzhi in the Qing Dynasty, his son won the second place in the imperial examination and was awarded the plaque of "Bangyan Jidi" by the emperor. The main part of this courtyard was built during the Chongzhen period of the Ming Dynasty, with a history of more than 400 years. There are Ming and Qing architectural art, antique furniture, traditional folk house couplets, brick carving art, teahouses, folk paper-cuts, shadow plays, guzheng performances, celebrity calligraphy and paintings, fine Chinese paintings, old photos, porcelain and tourist souvenirs with Shaanxi characteristics in the courtyard.
transportation
Take bus No. 7, 15, 32, 43, 45, 201, etc. and get off at Gulou Station
Tickets: 15 yuan;
Package: 135 yuan (ticket + paper cutting + painting);
It is antique and has retained the tall houses of the past, and the architecture is still very tasteful.
Gao's Courtyard is located on Huimin Street, in an inconspicuous door. The overall style is particularly characteristic of northern Shaanxi, with window grilles and folk paintings. Although it is small, it can well reflect the living conditions of the northwest region before. It is strongly recommended to go, and the ticket is not expensive.
The quiet atmosphere of the house in the garden forms a sharp contrast with the Muslim Street. In addition, the structure of the old house in the courtyard is also preserved in its original flavor. There are guest rooms, wing rooms, living rooms, private schools, ancestral halls, gardens, etc. on the right side of the door, and each room has a special introduction.
Gao Family Courtyard is a typical Chinese-style architectural layout, with symmetry along the central axis, enclosed courtyards and progressive levels.
It is a small building with a stage and shadow puppet performances. The ticket price is very cheap, 15 yuan.
I find quaint buildings hard to resist. Maybe it’s because of my profession, but I just like to go to places with stories.
There are many beautiful corners inside, all perfect for taking photos!
Anyway, I really love this kind of courtyard house, especially the one with three courtyards!
Shaanxi is the birthplace of Chinese shadow puppetry and the representative of Qin and Jin shadow puppetry. Gaojia Courtyard is located on Beiyuanmen Snack Street. In addition to the three-courtyard, four-entry brick-wood structure quadrangle, it was built during the Chongzhen period of the Ming Dynasty. It is a must-see for a shadow puppet show. When the curtain is drawn, watch the old artist dance with the shadow puppets and perform a wonderful "Three Strike the White Bone Demon".
It's OK,
Shadow play, there are three fights with the White Bone Demon and selling groceries, it's very short, I saw the groceries. Still a bit interesting. . It depends on the individual, don't set too high expectations.
It’s inside the Muslim Street. When you’re tired of shopping and eating, go to Gao’s Courtyard to relax.
The open-air dance drama is set against the backdrop of Mount Li. It was a nice day when I went to see it, with a drizzle. It was very shocking to watch it live. It combines the natural scenery of mountains and rivers with modern technology. The stage design, lighting, and the magnificent Tang Palace built, the fragrance of bathing in the Huaqing Pool, and the heat of the flames of war, sometimes really make people feel like they are there. Meimeiweixin (24559481)
The national intangible cultural heritage shadow play and Huayin Laoqiang are pretty good.
Gaojiayuan is right on Huimin Street, so the location is very convenient. The ticket is 15 yuan. Because it is included in the Shaanxi Tourism Annual Card, I didn't buy a separate ticket. It's mainly old buildings. If you are interested, you can go around.
I personally think the Huayin Laoqiang performance in Gaojiayuan is particularly good. The average age of the old artists is over 70 years old, but the performance is very wonderful. I was moved by these old artists who insisted on inheritance. I watched the last Huayin Laoqiang performance at 6:30 in the evening. After the performance, they changed into casual clothes, walked out of Gaojiayuan, and walked into the noisy night of Beiyuanmen.
Tickets are 15 yuan, and 7.5 yuan for seniors.
In the Muslim Street, if you get tired of shopping and eating, you can go in to take a break and watch a shadow play.
Gao Family Courtyard is actually the former residence of a celebrity. It was built during the reign of Emperor Chongzhen of the Ming Dynasty. During the reign of Emperor Chongzhen, Gao's ancestor, Gao Yuesong, won the imperial examination and was promoted to the position of Taisi. He was granted this house by Emperor Chongzhen. During the reign of Emperor Tongzhi of the Qing Dynasty, his descendants participated in the imperial examination and were selected as the second place by Emperor Tongzhi. They were granted the plaque "Bangyan Jidi". During this period, seven generations of the Gao family served as officials. Gao Family Courtyard has gone through a century of vicissitudes and is one of the most well-preserved residential courtyards in Xi'an. In fact, before 1990, within the ancient city wall of Xi'an, more than half of the houses were old houses with a history of more than two or three hundred years!
What Gaojiayuan mainly displays to tourists now is the architectural style of the past. There are also some intangible cultural heritages in the courtyard, such as Qinyun shadow play, Qinqiang, Qin and Tang costumes, etc.
It is quaint and retains the old high houses. The architecture is still very interesting. We paid extra to watch the shadow play, which was OK. The ten-minute performance was about the three fights with the White Bone Demon. The singing should be Qinqiang. It is recommended to visit for one hour.
It's worth a visit, the ticket price is not expensive. In Muslim Street, it's also nice to take a stroll after eating and shopping.
I went to Huimin Street to eat at night and saw it by chance. I was still very surprised after entering. Maybe southerners don’t see this kind of ancient house very often, but I was very surprised when I entered. The pictures I took were super beautiful and ancient. I regret not watching the shadow play. I should have brought my children to experience it.
There is a large courtyard in the Hui Muslim snack street, where the second place winner
It's a quite small courtyard, right at the North Gate. Since you're already at Huimin Street, you might as well visit here.
My roommate is from Xi'an, named Gao Yue... so I came here when I saw Gao's Courtyard. I didn't expect this place to be so much better than I expected. First of all, the quiet atmosphere in the house in the courtyard formed a sharp contrast with the Muslim Street. In addition, the structure of the old house in the courtyard is also preserved in its original flavor. There are guest rooms, wing rooms, living rooms, private schools, ancestral halls, gardens, etc. on the right side of the door. Each room has a special introduction. It is a must-visit place for students who are interested in ancient architecture. In the introduction of the scenic spot, I found that Gao's Courtyard was designed and rebuilt with the help of Trondheim University in Norway. I was supposed to go to Trodheim after school this semester. It's hard to describe.
There are also shadow play, Laoqiang and clothing museum in Gaojiayuan, all of which require extra money. I didn't watch Laoqiang due to time constraints. The shadow play is pretty good. I have never seen a performance before, but I have seen it in Gubei Water Town, but the tickets there seem to be very expensive... There are very few people in the clothing museum, there are some old cheongsams, most of which are from the Qing Dynasty.
A scenic spot in the middle of Muslim Street. As an old Xi'an person, I didn't have any impression of it before. But after entering, I found that it was just the format of the Liuxiang courtyard in the city before, but it was bigger. This scenic spot can be visited for free with the Shaanxi Tourism Annual Pass this year, but you can't watch the shadow play performance. This place is also called Bangyan Mansion, because it produced a Bangyan in the past. In general, the house is really an old house, but it's just an old house. If you are not particularly interested in ancient houses or shadow plays, you don't have to go to this place. In addition, I found that this attraction is not free for disabled people, which is really not good.
In the commercial downtown area, the cultural atmosphere is not so much, so you can watch the shadow play.
Personally, I think the management is too loose and the structure is too compact. Just take a look at it casually~!
Gaojiayuan is located on the main street of Huimin Street. It is easy to find. You can watch shadow play and listen to Qinqiang opera in Gaojiayuan.
Gao Family Courtyard is located on Huimin Street. The place is not very big and takes about 40 minutes to visit. There are shadow play performances inside (charges apply).
Gao Family Courtyard is located in the bustling Muslim Street. I like it very much. It is completely different from the outside to the inside. The Muslim Street outside is bustling with people coming and going, but Gao Family Courtyard inside is quiet. The sunshine shines down, creating a unique artistic conception. The ancient well is surrounded by hay, which makes it more quaint. The deeds of the Gao family officials are displayed inside. It is very large and has several courtyards. Finally, I watched the shadow play and listened to the Shaanxi Huayin Old Tune to feel the local characteristics. It is really interesting.
Well-preserved ancient courtyard, with shadow play and Qinqiang performances at night
It is located in the Muslim Street, and is very small. There are performances in the evening.
I went there at night. The big red lanterns were hung high, it was a bit eerie. The yard was very small and I could walk around it in no time. It was not cost-effective. I watched a shadow play. The previous comment said it was a second-time payment. I want to correct it. It was a third-time payment. The ticket was 15 yuan, and the shadow play was 15 yuan. If you want to sit in the first row, you must buy a drink. I was smart enough to sit in the second row.
It's a good experience. The shadow play is all in old Shaanxi dialect, which is hard to understand.
It's a very interesting old house. Whether you are an architecture lover, a history researcher or a literature lover, I think it's worth a visit. There is also a shadow play performance here, performed by an old man, so you have to rely on luck to see it.
The ancient house is still worth a visit, especially for photo-taking. Shadow play is a national treasure, but to be honest, Gao's Courtyard is really not that good, don't have too high expectations, and you have to pay an entrance fee!!!
The ticket price is a bit of a rip-off. It's on Muslim Street. If you don't pay attention, you will miss it.
Gaojiayuan is in Huimin Street. I bought a shadow play online for 20 yuan per person. I also listened to Qinqiang. I only bought the shadow play. I had to buy it 15-20 minutes in advance. There are no paper tickets for online purchases, but it is about 5 yuan cheaper than buying on site. The entrance is not very eye-catching and it is difficult to find among the many food stalls.
The shadow play usually starts on the hour. Before it starts, you can take a look around the Gao Family Courtyard inside, and then go there in advance to reserve a seat. You have to make a purchase (buy shadow puppets inside) to sit in the first and second rows, so you can only grab a seat in the third row.
Movie experience: The shadow play is relatively short, but I still find it very novel and unsatisfying for someone who has never seen a shadow play.
