Also known as Jianfu Temple Pagoda, it was first built in the Tang Dynasty and is now located in the Xi'an Museum.
The Small Wild Goose Pagoda has a quiet environment and has withstood more than 1,200 years of wind and rain and more than 70 earthquakes. It has experienced three separations and reunions in history.
A huge iron bell cast in 1192 is still preserved in the tower. The bell button is in the shape of two Xiezhi. There are about a thousand words inscribed on the bell, most of which are sutras and mantras. The bell has a loud sound, and the "Yanta Morning Bell" is also known as one of the eight scenic spots in Guanzhong.

Built during the reign of Emperor Jinglong of the Tang Dynasty, it is an important symbol of the Tang Chang'an City that has been preserved to this day, along with the Big Wild Goose Pagoda. The Small Wild Goose Pagoda is a typical example of an early Chinese square brick pagoda with dense eaves. It originally had 15 floors, but now has 13 floors. It is 43.4 meters high and has a beautiful shape. It is a heritage of Tang Dynasty Buddhist architectural art and a landmark building that introduced Buddhism to the Central Plains and integrated it into Han culture. I didn't have high hopes before I went there, but I didn't expect the scenic area to be quite quiet and there were few people. If you have plenty of time, you can go and take a look. You can get a ticket with your ID card.
When I was about to leave Xi'an, I pushed open the door of Xiaoyan Pagoda.
There are no bustling crowds, no bright commercial atmosphere, no tickets, and no tour guides here.
Unlike what you might imagine, this is a very pure place, very quiet, very ethereal, and very retro.
Compared to the hustle and bustle of the Big Wild Goose Pagoda, I appreciate the tranquility and peace of the Small Wild Goose Pagoda more.
The Small Wild Goose Pagoda is not as famous as the Big Wild Goose Pagoda, and the surrounding sightseeing and entertainment facilities are certainly not as complete as the Big Wild Goose Pagoda area, but I think the Small Wild Goose Pagoda is worth visiting. The Xi'an Museum and the Shadow Play Theater are in the Small Wild Goose Pagoda scenic area, so you can visit them together. And you only need an ID card to get a free ticket to the Small Wild Goose Pagoda.
Like the Big Wild Goose Pagoda, the Small Wild Goose Pagoda located in the royal temple Jianfu Temple was also built in the Tang Dynasty, later than the Big Wild Goose Pagoda, in 707 AD. Due to its smaller size, it is called the Small Wild Goose Pagoda and was the place for translation of Buddhist scriptures.
Both sides are lined with horse hitching posts of various shapes collected from the public.
The most famous thing here is the Wild Goose Pagoda Morning Bell, which was cast in 1192. In the old days, monks would ring the bell every morning, and the sound could be heard dozens of miles away. This bell disappeared for 700 years due to the flood of the Wei River, and was not found until the Qing Dynasty.
The ancient trees in Xiaoyan Pagoda have a history of more than a thousand years and are still standing today. It has to be said that the conservation measures are really good.
There are many pieces of wood carved into various shapes.
From the appearance, if the Big Wild Goose Pagoda is compared to a majestic man, then the Small Wild Goose Pagoda is a beautiful girl from a small family. This may be related to its construction, which was funded by people in the palace.
The Small Wild Goose Pagoda has experienced three earthquakes, opening and closing three times. It was split by the earthquake and closed again by the earthquake, which is called "Shenhe".
The original 15-story tower was 45 meters high, and the top two levels have fallen and been damaged. Like the Big Wild Goose Pagoda, the Small Wild Goose Pagoda originally had bells hanging on the edges of each floor, but due to the damage to the edges, the corners of the tower edges and the bells are no longer visible. Due to the earthquake, the tower was cracked in the middle, and the crack is no longer visible after repairs. Today, the Small Wild Goose Pagoda is no longer open to the public.
We walked around the garden and found the small statues on the stone pillars with different expressions, which was quite interesting. I don't know how many people worked hard, but each tree was covered with artificial flowers of various colors even though there were no leaves on it.
But I don’t think fake flowers are as pretty as the little red lanterns. I guess it’s because the New Year is approaching, and the little red lanterns are hung everywhere. I think this is the most Xi’an-flavored thing.
It was 5pm when we arrived at the Small Wild Goose Pagoda, but we were not allowed to enter at 4:30pm. There were a bunch of people gathered at the door. After much persuasion, the guard was easy to talk to and let us all in. It was almost a wasted trip...
The garden is not big and is not as famous as the Big Wild Goose Pagoda. It was also closing time, so there were few people and it was very quiet.
It was still a bit cold in Xi'an in the winter evening. There were few people and the garden was small, so I finished visiting and taking pictures in more than half an hour.
Compared to the crowded Da Ci'en Temple-Big Wild Goose Pagoda, Jianfu Temple-Small Wild Goose Pagoda is a relatively quiet place. It is best to go to the Small Wild Goose Pagoda in the morning, so you can watch the tower and listen to the bell, and experience the "Yanta Morning Bell", one of the eight scenic spots in Guanzhong! The Small Wild Goose Pagoda was built in the Tang Dynasty and has experienced more than 1,200 years of wind and rain, including many major earthquakes! It is said that the tower body has been separated and reunited three times, which is a great wonder.
Because the area around the Big Wild Goose Pagoda is undergoing extensive renovations recently, I plan to take my children to Xiamen and return to Sichuan to take the high-speed rail to Xi'an. We arrived in Xi'an around 6pm and took the airport bus to Xi'an Hotel, where there is a direct bus. There are subways and buses near the hotel where I live, and there is also a food city nearby, so it is very convenient to eat, stay and travel. You can walk to the Small Wild Goose Pagoda and the Xi'an Museum for a visit. Both attractions are free, and they are not inferior to the Big Wild Goose Pagoda in terms of historical value and sightseeing value.
Compared with the Big Wild Goose Pagoda, the Small Wild Goose Pagoda does not have such a high reputation, and may even be considered a petite beauty. However, it truly possesses the serenity and tranquility of a temple. Shaded by tall pine trees, it appears petite and beautiful, yet unexpectedly unforgettable.
There is a large iron bell made in the Jin Dynasty in the Small Wild Goose Pagoda. The sound of the bell is so clear and melodious that it can be heard clearly 10 kilometers away. The tower and the ancient bell in the bell tower of Jianfu Temple are collectively known as the "Yanta Morning Bell", one of the "Eight Scenic Spots in Guanzhong".
On the last day of my trip to Xi'an, I wanted to stroll around leisurely. I didn't want to visit any scenic spots separately, but my friend repeatedly persuaded me to go to the Small Wild Goose Pagoda. I took a shared bicycle to the Xi'an Museum and found that the Small Wild Goose Pagoda did not charge admission. It was in the same courtyard as the museum and belonged to the same scenic spot. It was really beautiful. Although it was free, it was not inferior to the Big Wild Goose Pagoda at all. On the contrary, I felt that the Small Wild Goose Pagoda was a graceful girl, beautiful!
The Small Wild Goose Pagoda is located in Jianfu Temple in the southern suburbs. The subway in Xi'an is undergoing major repairs, and the chaotic traffic has become a bit annoying. In addition, it is drizzling again, and the wet and muddy roads are not very friendly to pedestrians. The road to the Small Wild Goose Pagoda is really not easy to walk.
There is no need to enter the Small Wild Goose Pagoda. You can exchange your ID card for an admission ticket at the entrance, which is great. Once you enter the Small Wild Goose Pagoda, you can't help but marvel at the ingenuity of Xi'an's urban construction, which has hidden this quiet and beautiful place deep in the chaotic city. You can't discover its beauty unless you get close.
Compared with the heavy shape of Big Wild Goose Pagoda, Small Wild Goose Pagoda is like a graceful girl, tall, slender and pretty. The Small Wild Goose Pagoda scenic area is very large and the environment is pleasant.
Looking up, you can see centuries-old trees; looking down, you can see bluestone bricks polished by time. The autumn rain has not diminished the beauty of this place, but has made people cherish it. The drizzling rain and the ancient and quiet atmosphere make people want to sit here, empty their minds, and stay in a daze all day.
There are many steles in the courtyard of the Small Wild Goose Pagoda, which mainly record the additions, reconstructions and renovations of the temple. After the construction was completed, the steles were engraved to record the merits.
There is no entrance fee here, it is free to visit. The story of the Small Wild Goose Pagoda is also worth pondering. It has a history of more than 1,300 years, and it is not easy to preserve it so well. I like the comfort of the Small Wild Goose Pagoda. There are not many tourists here. Occasionally, I see a few tour groups, and they are all taking pictures around the pagoda. The afternoon light here in late autumn is very comfortable, and the environment is well maintained. I don’t know if it can still be called a Buddhist temple, but it is definitely a quiet place. This is the most comfortable attraction I think during this visit to Xi’an.
The Small Wild Goose Pagoda can be said to be in the backyard of the Xi'an Museum.
According to historical records, in 684 AD, one hundred days after Emperor Gaozong of Tang died, the royal family donated money to build Xianfu Temple. In 690 AD, Wu Zetian usurped the throne of the Zhou Dynasty and became the Holy Emperor, and changed Xianfu Temple to Jianfu Temple.
In 705 AD, Li Xian restored the Tang Dynasty and ascended the throne. Two years later, Emperor Zhongzong of Tang built a pagoda in Anrenfang, Chang'an City, to commemorate and comfort Emperor Gaozong of Tang. The pagoda is 45 meters high, and because the pagoda of Ci'en Temple is 19 meters lower, it is called the Small Wild Goose Pagoda. The gate of the courtyard where the Small Wild Goose Pagoda is located faces north, just opposite the Jianfu Temple. At the end of the Tang Dynasty, due to frequent wars, the Jianfu Temple was reduced to ruins, but the Small Wild Goose Pagoda still stands.
There is an iron bell in Jianfu Temple, which was cast in the third year of Mingchang (1192) during the reign of Emperor Zhangzong of Jin. It weighs 10,000 jin and has 1,000 characters on it. The sound of striking it is loud enough to be heard ten miles away. The Small Wild Goose Pagoda and the ancient bell in the bell tower of Jianfu Temple are collectively known as the "Yanta Morning Bell", one of the "Eight Scenic Spots in Guanzhong", and is a national 4A-level tourist attraction.
Small Wild Goose Pagoda, also known as Jianfu Temple Pagoda, was first built in the Tang Dynasty and is now located in the Xi'an Museum.
The Small Wild Goose Pagoda originally had 15 floors, but now only 13 floors remain. You can take a panoramic photo of the Small Wild Goose Pagoda using the panoramic mode of your phone. The Small Wild Goose Pagoda has experienced three earthquakes, opening and closing three times. It was split by the earthquake and closed again by the earthquake, and is called "Shenhe".
There is still a huge iron bell cast in 1192 in the tower. The bell button is in the shape of two Xiezhi. There are about a thousand words inscribed on the bell, most of which are sutras and mantras. The bell has a loud sound, and the "Yanta Morning Bell" is also known as one of the eight scenic spots in Guanzhong.
Tickets: Free, just exchange your ID card for tickets at the door.
The most beautiful scenery of Xiaoyan Pagoda is in autumn, when you can see ginkgo trees sweeping across the sky, the setting sun mottled, and the yellow pomegranate trees hanging down.
Compared with the Big Wild Goose Pagoda, the Small Wild Goose Pagoda is very quiet and peaceful! Located in the Jianfu Temple in Anrenfang, Chang'an City of the Tang Dynasty (now the southern suburbs of Xi'an City, Shaanxi Province), it is also known as the "Jianfu Temple Pagoda". It was built during the Jinglong period of the Tang Dynasty and is an important symbol of the Tang Chang'an City that has been preserved to this day, along with the Big Wild Goose Pagoda. Located in Jianfu Temple in Anrenfang, Chang'an City (southern suburb of Xi'an), the Small Wild Goose Pagoda is also known as the "Jianfu Temple Pagoda". It was built during the Jinglong period of the Tang Dynasty and is an important symbol of the Tang Chang'an City that has been preserved to this day, along with the Big Wild Goose Pagoda. The Small Wild Goose Pagoda was successfully included in the World Heritage List as a site in the "Silk Road: Chang'an-Tianshan Corridor Network" jointly applied for by China, Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan. The Small Wild Goose Pagoda and the Big Wild Goose Pagoda face each other from east to west and are two important landmarks that have been preserved to this day in Chang'an, the capital of the Tang Dynasty.
The Small Wild Goose Pagoda was built during the Jinglong period of Emperor Zhongzong of the Tang Dynasty (707-710) to store Buddhist scriptures and Buddhist paintings brought back from India by the Tang Dynasty monk Yijing. The Small Wild Goose Pagoda is a typical example of an early square dense-eave brick pagoda in China. It originally had 15 floors. During the great earthquake in the 34th year of Jiajing in the Ming Dynasty (1556), two floors of the top of the pagoda were destroyed. Now there are 13 floors, 43.4 meters high, and 11.38 meters long at the base. The ratio of height to base is 100:26. The pagoda is beautiful in shape and is a heritage of Tang Dynasty Buddhist architectural art. It is a landmark building that introduced Buddhism into the Central Plains and integrated it into Han culture.
The base of the Small Wild Goose Pagoda is a brick square platform. There is a vaulted door on the north and south sides of the pagoda base. The door is made of bluestone and there are bluestone steps under the vaulted door. The stone door frame is covered with exquisite Tang Dynasty line carvings, especially the images of heavenly offerings on the door lintel, which have high artistic value. The brick gatehouse close to the pagoda body outside the north vaulted door on the ground floor was added in the Qing Dynasty. There is a Qing Dynasty stone gate archway on the south side of the pagoda base, with "Wanhui Zhan'en" engraved on the south plaque and "Buer Famen" engraved on the north plaque.
There is an underground palace under the base, which is a vertical pit. Above the base is the tower body, which is tall at the bottom floor, and gradually decreases in height and width from the second floor onwards, becoming narrower and narrower as it goes up, with a natural round and closed top, so the overall outline presents a beautiful scroll brake.
The Xi'an Museum and the Small Wild Goose Pagoda are located in the same area and are free to visit. You can enter from the west entrance to visit the Xi'an Museum first, then visit in a counterclockwise direction, and finally exit from the north gate.
The Small Wild Goose Pagoda was first built in the first year of Emperor Zhongzong of the Tang Dynasty (707 AD) to store Buddhist scriptures and Buddhist paintings brought back from India by the Tang Dynasty monk Yijing. It has been well preserved to this day, with a history of more than 1,300 years. It is one of the earliest precious examples of the introduction of the Buddhist pagoda into the Central Plains. The name of the Small Wild Goose Pagoda was derived to distinguish it from the Big Wild Goose Pagoda. In fact, it was once called the Jianfu Temple Pagoda.
"Yanta Morning Bell" is one of the Eight Scenic Spots in Guanzhong. It is the collective name for the Small Wild Goose Pagoda and the ancient bell in the bell tower of Jianfu Temple.
I went to the gate early in the morning and exchanged my ID card for a ticket to enter. My bag and water had to go through security checks. The environment was comfortable. Today is the Dragon Boat Festival, and there is a bell-ringing and blessing activity, which is very lively. There are many foreign tour groups, and the tour guide brother Yong is introducing the inscription in fluent English. It is worth going. Go early, it will be more sunny if you go late.
I like this place very much. The Xi'an Museum is free, and the garden of the Small Wild Goose Pagoda is also free. There is an additional charge for climbing the tower. However, this kind of ancient tower from the Tang Dynasty should be climbed as soon as possible, because sooner or later it will be closed for protection. There are far fewer tourists than the Big Wild Goose Pagoda, and the environment is very deep and quiet.
The Small Wild Goose Pagoda and the Big Wild Goose Pagoda are both symbols of Chang'an City in the Tang Dynasty that have been preserved to this day. They are located in Jianfu Temple and are now part of the Xi'an Museum. The Small Wild Goose Pagoda has a quiet environment with fewer tourists and is much quieter.
The Small Wild Goose Pagoda has stood for more than 1,300 years. Like the Big Wild Goose Pagoda, it is a dense-eave brick tower. It originally had 15 floors, but the top two floors were destroyed in an earthquake, leaving only 13 floors. The Small Wild Goose Pagoda is located next to the Xi'an Museum, and the environment is quiet. There are not many people on May Day. There is a shadow puppet making and rubbing experience area, where I watched the last shadow puppet show before closing.
In the shadow play "Selling Groceries", an old man is behind the curtain, manipulating the shadow figures while singing the story in Shaanxi old tune. One person plays two roles, and there are dialogues in Chinese and English above the stage.
Heyang string puppet show "The Happy Peddler" is a rare traditional opera that originated in the Han Dynasty and flourished in the Tang Dynasty. The performers use lifting, pulling, hooking, twisting, swinging and shaking techniques to control the puppets to make complex movements such as walking, running, jumping, sitting, riding horses, sitting in sedan chairs, dancing with guns and sticks, etc., which are lifelike.
There are relatively fewer tourists, so you can calm down and leisurely explore and appreciate the Tang Dynasty relics.
It's worth a visit. When we went there, we met many people doing morning exercises. It felt pretty good.
There is a small garden in the Small Wild Goose Pagoda in Xi'an. The photos taken there are very beautiful.
It's more impressive than the Big Wild Goose Pagoda. The best place to take photos of the pagoda is in the Rose Garden in the East Cross Courtyard. Don't say I didn't tell you.
A fifteen-story brick tower
The spire no longer exists and due to the principle of restoration
Xi'an Municipal Government has no plans to repair
There is a museum in the Small Wild Goose Pagoda with three floors for you to visit.

It is free with ID card, but not free ticket. It is one of the earlier dense-eave towers in our country. There is a small peony garden inside, which is also a sight to behold when the flowers are in bloom.

Compared with the Big Wild Goose Pagoda, the Small Wild Goose Pagoda has a more historical feel.

This attraction is highly recommended!!!
It is a free attraction, but compared to other popular attractions, it seems a bit deserted and has fewer exhibits.
Since the Buddhist master Xuanzang stored and translated Buddhist scriptures here, the Big Wild Goose Pagoda has become a Buddhist cultural center on the Silk Road since its construction. However, there is another brick tower with cloud-like eaves that echoes the Big Wild Goose Pagoda, which is the Small Wild Goose Pagoda. The Small Wild Goose Pagoda was built in 707 and is a pagoda of Jianfu Temple in Chang'an City during the Tang Dynasty. Jianfu Temple is one of the famous "Three Major Translation Sites in Chang'an" in the history of Chinese Buddhist scripture translation. In the middle of the Tang Dynasty, the "Scripture Translation Institute", a cultural institution directly managed by the state, was located here. Monks from various countries gathered here to translate scriptures, which proved the history of Buddhism spreading eastward from India and witnessed the prevalence of Buddhism in Chang'an during the Tang Dynasty. The Small Wild Goose Pagoda is a representative Buddhist building during the heyday of the "Silk Road".
Direct transportation in the city~just search for buses on the map.
Free admission with ID card
You can't go up the tower. The angle for taking photos from the north side is better than that from the south side.
The Small Wild Goose Pagoda is located in Jianfu Temple. It is similar in shape to the Big Wild Goose Pagoda and has 13 floors. The pagoda itself was built during the Jinglong period, 30 years later than the temple. The temple was originally built to house Buddhist scriptures. There is also a large bell cast in the Jin Dynasty. Every New Year's Day, there is a bell-ringing activity to pray for blessings.
It is not a popular tourist attraction, but it has a quiet environment and lush trees, and is worth a visit.
The Small Wild Goose Pagoda is connected to the Xi'an Museum and can be entered from either the Xi'an Museum or the Small Wild Goose Pagoda. The environment inside is quiet and the gardens are beautiful. What's more rare is that there are not many tourists. It is also a good choice to spend a leisurely and quiet time here.
The Small Wild Goose Pagoda was built by Wu Zetian for Princess Taiping. It originally had 15 floors. During the Ming and Qing dynasties, it suffered from many earthquakes, causing cracks in the tower body and the top of the tower to be destroyed, leaving only 13 floors. In the park, the willow trees sprouted in early spring, the plum blossoms were in full bloom, and I met many aunties who were super good at posing for photos.
You can enter the park for free with your ID card. The Xiaoyan Pagoda Scenic Area is very quiet and there are few people. If you have enough time, you may as well go and have a look.
Compared with the Big Wild Goose Pagoda, the Small Wild Goose Pagoda is really quiet. As soon as you enter the door, you will see the Xi'an shadow play, and on the right are some Xi'an specialty souvenirs. The small shop is very simple and suitable for taking pictures. Walk in for about 10 minutes and you will see the Small Wild Goose Pagoda.
There are many thousand-year-old trees in the courtyard. They have gone through many vicissitudes of life, and only they and the Small Wild Goose Pagoda have accompanied each other through the long river of time.
The original site of the Small Wild Goose Pagoda was once the residence of Emperor Zhongzong of Tang when he was still the crown prince, and many precious cultural relics are preserved there.
Visitors can also ring the bell for 10 yuan three times.
Small Wild Goose Pagoda is like a park where you can take a leisurely stroll and experience the historical charm of the park.
To enter the Small Wild Goose Pagoda, you have to go through security check and there is a long queue of tourists carrying bags.
It can't be said to be very quiet, but there are not many people. The three friends of winter, pine, bamboo and plum, gather together, which is fascinating.
The Small Wild Goose Pagoda Scenic Area and the Xi'an Museum are connected to form one scenic area.
The ticket price for Xiaoyan Pagoda during the off-season is 15 or 20 yuan, I can’t remember for sure, but it’s very cheap.
The area around the foot of the Small Wild Goose Pagoda is the same, and there will be some special trinket shops around the tower at night.
It is connected to the Xi'an Museum and is currently under maintenance and cannot be accessed.
This is the only free attraction on our entire trip, and the Small Wild Goose Pagoda is not just a small wild goose pagoda, there is also a Xi'an Museum inside. Compared to the hustle and bustle of most of the attractions we visited before, the Small Wild Goose Pagoda is like a lady standing in the city of Xi'an, quiet and beautiful. It is definitely worth a visit.
I read in the guide that you can climb the Little Wild Goose Pagoda, but when I got there I didn't see any signs to climb the tower. Maybe it's not open in the off-season. But it looks beautiful from a distance, so it doesn't matter whether I climb it or not.
The Small Wild Goose Pagoda is located inside the Xi'an Museum. It is ordinary and has no highlights. It is similar to an ordinary park.
The Small Wild Goose Pagoda is a rare free visit. Compared with the commercial Big Wild Goose Pagoda, it is much quieter here! The children have never seen the windlass well and bellows in the Silk Road Cultural Station. This time they can operate it by themselves. It's very happy! Go directly to the Xi'an Museum, which is also free to visit. The model of the ancient city of Xi'an in the museum is really shocking!
There is an ancient pagoda and a ruined temple. Although it has not been left for more than a thousand years, it is quite quiet.
The Small Wild Goose Pagoda is free to visit and houses the Xi'an Museum, which is highly recommended.
The Little Wild Goose Pagoda really exceeded my expectations. The key is that there are few people and it is relatively quiet. It costs 5 yuan to ring the bell three times. I went there on New Year's Day and took my children to experience it. It felt quite meaningful. Good luck in the new year.
The Small Wild Goose Pagoda is located together with the Xi'an Museum. You can exchange your ticket for free at the entrance with your ID card.
It seems that you can go up to the Small Wild Goose Pagoda, but I saw a sign saying that it is under maintenance and is not open to visitors for the time being.
The top of the Small Wild Goose Pagoda was gone during the Qing Dynasty. It was also hit by artillery fire during the Anti-Japanese War, but fortunately it has not collapsed.
Also known as Jianfu Temple Pagoda, it was first built in the Tang Dynasty and is now located in the Xi'an Museum.
After traveling in Shaanxi, everyone generally feels that the tickets are expensive. However, Shaanxi Museum and Small Wild Goose Pagoda are free, like the warm sunshine in the severe winter.
There are not many tourists in Xi'an Museum. You can observe carefully, but you can't climb the tower. It is located outside the South Gate, but in the Tang Dynasty, this was the center of Chang'an City.
Compared to Dayan Pagoda, Xiaoyan Pagoda has fewer tourists and is much quieter. The gardens inside must be very beautiful in spring and autumn. It's a pity that when I went there, the leaves had almost fallen and it hadn't snowed heavily yet, otherwise it would have felt even better to walk inside.
The Small Wild Goose Pagoda, which is as famous as the Big Wild Goose Pagoda, is a must-visit place to understand Xi'an. The Small Wild Goose Pagoda has had a rough experience with the impact of many earthquakes. At the same time, due to the design of the tower base, the tower body has opened and closed many times but never collapsed. It can be said to be very magical. The entire Small Wild Goose Pagoda scenic area is not crowded and is a relatively quiet place.
The Small Wild Goose Pagoda is located in Jianfu Temple, No. 72, Youyi West Road, Beilin District, Xi'an. The Small Wild Goose Pagoda and Jianfu Temple are two different types and styles of buildings in the Tang Dynasty, with different construction times and evolution experiences. According to historical records, in the first year of Jinglong of Emperor Zhongzong of the Tang Dynasty (707 AD), the palace people in the imperial palace raised funds to build a smaller pagoda across the street to the north of Jianfu Temple. Later generations called the pagoda in Ci'en Temple "Big Wild Goose Pagoda" and the pagoda in Jianfu Temple "Small Wild Goose Pagoda". The Small Wild Goose Pagoda is a square dense-eave brick pagoda built according to the architectural technology of the Tang Dynasty. The tower is exquisite and beautiful; it originally had 15 floors, and now has 13 floors. It is 43.4 meters high and is a heritage of Buddhist architectural art in the Tang Dynasty. It was announced as a national key cultural relic protection unit in 1961. It was listed in the World Heritage List in 2014. The Small Wild Goose Pagoda has gone through more than 1,300 years of wind and rain, and has been baptized, destroyed and tested by many earthquakes and wars of successive dynasties, but it still stands tall. After the founding of the People's Republic of China, the tower was renovated and cracks were repaired, making the Small Wild Goose Pagoda look young and vigorous again. The thousand-year-old cultural relics are worth seeing. You can get a free admission ticket with your ID card, limited to 3,000 people per day; take a bus or subway to Nanshaomen Station or Small Wild Goose Pagoda Station, get off and walk about 300 meters to the destination.
The Small Wild Goose Pagoda and the ancient bell in the bell tower of Jianfu Temple are collectively known as the "Yanta Morning Bell", one of the "Eight Scenic Spots of Guanzhong". It is a part of the Xi'an Museum and a national AAAA-level tourist attraction.
It is the early winter ginkgo season, and the golden ginkgo trees and the ancient monuments are unique. The current Small Wild Goose Pagoda has been rebuilt, but the top of the tower has been damaged.
After entering the gate, we first visited the Small Wild Goose Pagoda and the surrounding park. There are many golden ginkgo trees here. The Small Wild Goose Pagoda was under maintenance, so we couldn't climb the tower. There is a big bell nearby. You can ring the bell to pray for blessings and peace for money. There is also a wishing tree and wishing cards next to it.
It is a free scenic spot. It is an important symbol of the ancient Chang'an City that has been preserved to this day, along with the Big Wild Goose Pagoda. It originally had 15 floors. Two floors were destroyed in the Ming Dynasty earthquake. Now it has 13 floors. It has not been repaired. Sometimes, incompleteness is also a kind of beauty.
Coming to the Small Wild Goose Pagoda gave us an unexpected surprise. It is very quiet here, with beautiful scenery, and has a unique charm in the ancient city...
I didn't need to pay for tickets today. All the attractions in Xi'an require tickets. This is undoubtedly a surprise! I was even more surprised when I came in. The exquisite garden architecture and the Small Wild Goose Pagoda are more beautiful than the Big Wild Goose Pagoda. I highly recommend it! It's really worth a visit!
The Small Wild Goose Pagoda is free but not free to enter. You can exchange your ID card for a ticket at the ticket office. Since the Small Wild Goose Pagoda is a niche attraction, there are not many people. You can walk around the park slowly and take some photos.
Xiaoyan Pagoda was highly recommended by my friends and the owner of the B&B. In the words of the owner, it is "free, less crowded, and beautiful scenery." Well, after visiting it, I would say it is really beautiful.
The place is not big, and tickets are not free. You need to exchange your ID card for tickets to enter. It was still early after eating at Yongxingfang, so I came here on the way. It is next to the Xi'an History Museum. After visiting the Small Wild Goose Pagoda, you can go directly to the Municipal Museum. There are few people in the Small Wild Goose Pagoda, and it is very leisurely to walk around. It feels more peaceful than the Big Wild Goose Pagoda.
The interior of the park is very beautiful, with few visitors. There are several golden ginkgo trees next to the tower, and many people stop to take pictures. The Small Wild Goose Pagoda is taller than the Big Wild Goose Pagoda, and has a more historical feel, and is restored to its original state.
The Small Wild Goose Pagoda is closed on Tuesdays. It is free but not ticket-free. Remember to bring your ID card. Compared with the Big Wild Goose Pagoda, the Small Wild Goose Pagoda is much less crowded and the environment is quiet. The Small Wild Goose Pagoda is under maintenance, so climbing the tower is not allowed. It seems that some attractions are under maintenance in November. It is estimated that they are overwhelmed after the baptism of the Golden Week in October. The Small Wild Goose Pagoda is a place for translating Buddhist scriptures.
It is under maintenance and cannot be logged in.
I was able to get closer and take a few photos.
Located in Jianfu Temple in Anrenfang, Chang'an City of Tang Dynasty (now in the southern suburbs of Xi'an City, Shaanxi Province), Small Wild Goose Pagoda, also known as "Jianfu Temple Pagoda", was built during the Jinglong period of the Tang Dynasty. Together with Big Wild Goose Pagoda, it is an important symbol of Chang'an City of Tang Dynasty that has been preserved to this day. Small Wild Goose Pagoda is a typical work of early square dense-eaves brick pagoda in China. It originally had 15 floors, of which 13 floors remain. It is 43.4 meters high and has a beautiful tower shape. It is a heritage of Buddhist architectural art in the Tang Dynasty and a landmark building that introduced Buddhism into the Central Plains and integrated it into Han culture.

The construction of the Small Wild Goose Pagoda was two years later than that of the Jianfu Temple. It is clearly recorded in historical records that "it was built by the palace ladies of Jinglong" (Volume 7 of Chang'an Records). The Small Wild Goose Pagoda was not built by the government, but by the living palace ladies. Obviously, the Small Wild Goose Pagoda became a product of crowdfunding in the Tang Dynasty. The ancient bell in the bell tower of Jianfu Temple and the Small Wild Goose Pagoda are collectively known as the "Yanta Morning Bell", one of the "Eight Scenic Spots of Guanzhong".
The Small Wild Goose Pagoda is more ancient and quiet than the Big Wild Goose Pagoda. After more than 1,200 years of wind and rain, it still stands at the foot of the city. The ancient locust trees here have been guarding the ancient temple for thousands of years.
I am not an expert in history, so I will share my feelings after the tour for your reference. First, the tickets are free, and you can enter directly after receiving them with your ID card. Of course, the photos taken on a sunny day are beautiful when visiting the scenic area, but I didn't expect that there would be a cooling rain, which also has a different exquisite charm. Second, the Small Wild Goose Pagoda originally had 15 floors, and now only 13 floors remain, which is also a relatively high monument. Many tourists want to take photos with the Small Wild Goose Pagoda, but they can't take photos of the entire tower base from a distance, and they can't take photos of the entire tower top from a close distance. In fact, many mobile phones have panoramic modes, which can perfectly solve this problem. Many uncles saw me taking photos for my family and asked me to help take photos. Hahaha, you're welcome. We Lanzhou people are very enthusiastic. Third, seeing many foreign tourists ringing the bell, it's right to experience the charm of Chinese culture. But the "Yanta Morning Bell", which is truly one of the "Eight Scenic Spots in Guanzhong", is a cultural relic. How could you let you ring it? It is locked in the bell tower. No matter how much changes you make, I will remain unmoved. Because it was cloudy and the light was not very good, in order to see the true appearance of the bell, I changed three places to see a little bit. It was very big, very heavy, and had patterns on the surface. Fourth, these ancient trees just after entering the gate, some of which are 1,300 years old, look at them. The Little Wild Goose Pagoda, which was once a royal temple, was in its heyday. It is hard to guarantee that any emperor, concubine, or prince, nobleman, has not taken a cool under the tree. Perhaps after thousands of years, what we are looking up at is a tree. In addition, because I don’t know whether the elderly over 65 years old can enter directly with their ID cards or also need to exchange tickets, because the Terracotta Warriors and Huaqing Pool need to exchange tickets, I asked the little brother at the security check, saying that other scenic spots need to exchange tickets, what about you? As a result, they said that this is not another scenic spot... Haha, you have been a security guard here all your life!
