Following the main road through the hydrangea lanterns, we arrived at the Yongning Gate of the city wall. The giant dragons on the left and right sides soared out of the moat, guarding here. Their spirited eyes fully demonstrated the majesty and momentum of China today, while the Yongning Gate in the middle was illuminated in Chinese red, and under the searchlights waving left and right, it looked particularly festive.

There is a Yongningmen subway station. When you exit the station, you will see the square outside Yongningmen. If you are interested, you can visit the Beilin Museum next to it. The ticket for one person is 54 yuan. It is said that the South Gate is open until the evening, but we did not wait. There are bicycle rental stalls and beverage bars on the city wall, but the beverages they sell are really not good. When we went there, it seemed that they were preparing for the New Year's Eve Lantern Festival, but the colored lanterns seemed to be quite vulgar. The city wall is still worth a visit, after all, it is the best preserved and largest city wall site in China.

From my Xi'an travel notes "A thousand years of Chang'an dream ❤ Feasting in Xi'an (food and scenery - Internet celebrity new authentic traditional popular food, Xi'an first snow New Year's Eve beautiful scenery travel photography)" http://www.mafengwo.cn/i/11626046.html

The Xi'an City Wall was built in the third year of Hongwu (1370) during the reign of Emperor Taizu of the Ming Dynasty. It was built on the basis of the imperial cities of the Sui and Tang dynasties under the policy of Zhu Yuanzhang to "build high walls, store grain and delay claiming the throne". Changle Gate (East Gate), Yongning Gate (South Gate), Anding Gate (West Gate) and Anyuan Gate (North Gate) were the original gates of the ancient city wall. Since the Republic of China, many new gates have been opened to facilitate access to the ancient city area. So far, there are 18 gates in the Xi'an City Wall. The wall is 12 meters high, 12-14 meters wide at the top, 15-18 meters wide at the bottom, 13.74 kilometers in circumference, and the ancient city area covers an area of 11.32 square kilometers.

The snow-white sky in winter is hazy among the branches with fallen flowers and leaves. The fiery lanterns quietly tell the inner fantasies and dreams. The winter is endless between the bluestone and gray tiles, the peach faces are still red, and time passes with the wind.

Climbing up the city wall from Yongning Gate, the roofs of the ancient city seem to be the same as they were thousands of years ago. There are no flowers around the windows, no painted buildings and carved beams, but they are magnificent and solemn, simple and beautiful. The distance in the eyes of the people on the wall is full of poetry and dreams.

Looking at the ancient city gate from afar, it is solemn and shocking. For a moment, it seems as if you have returned to the Tang Dynasty. Go through the underground passage and come to the square in front of the city gate tower. Accompanied by the guzheng music on the square, take a deep breath and quietly gaze at the Yongning Gate in front of you. This may be the reason why you wanted to come to Chang'an in the first place.

The moment I got out of the subway, I heard the sound of gongs and drums. It was almost ten o'clock, and it was still so lively, with people dancing the yangge and beating drums. The lights in Yongningmen Square were all on. It was so beautiful. Isn't it time for the songs of Xi'an people to sound?

The city wall is the most complete and highest-standard ancient city wall in the world, with a five-dimensional defense system.

The first is the moat.

The second lock tower is after crossing the suspension bridge.

After entering the ticket gate, we came to a semicircular square, which looks like the moon and is called Moon City. The huge fortress above is very spectacular, with rows of windows, which is the third line of defense arrow tower.

The fourth is the urn city, which is located between the arrow tower and the main tower.

The fifth line of defense is naturally the main city gate.

The ancient city wall is 13.4 kilometers long and more than 20 meters thick. The wall is high outside and low inside. This design can improve the defensive effect of the wall and make it more difficult for the enemy to attack the city. The wall is high outside and low inside, which means that the outside of the wall is higher and the inside is lower, which makes climbing more difficult during sieges and also increases the advantages of archery and stone throwing.

By Good people live a peaceful life |

It is recommended to ride the city wall at 18:00 in the afternoon. The scenery can be seen from day to night. Each person should have at least two bottles of water. There are toilets on the city wall. Comfortable shoes and pants are required, and no hat is needed. The city wall is uneven, so ride slowly. You can get around it in 3 hours for 45 yuan. Don't be too anxious. Safety first, enjoy the scenery slowly.

Yongning Gate has completely preserved the Ming Dynasty's "three-story gate and three-story building" structure. Behind the suspension bridge is the gatehouse, which was first built in the ninth year of the Ming Dynasty Chongzhen (1636). In the sixteenth year of the Ming Dynasty Chongzhen (1643), Li Zicheng's army attacked Xi'an and the gatehouse was destroyed in the war. In the thirteenth year of the Qing Dynasty Shunzhi (1656), Shaanxi Governor Chen Jixin presided over the reconstruction. In the early years of the Republic of China, the gatehouse was demolished, and the Moon City and suspension bridge were also completely destroyed. In September 1990, the Moon City, gatehouse and suspension bridge were rebuilt.

Yongning Gate is the south gate of the Xi'an city wall, located in the middle and west of the south city wall. It was originally the "Anshang Gate" on the south and east of the Chang'an Imperial City in the Sui and Tang Dynasties. It was retained when Han Jian rebuilt the new city in the late Tang Dynasty. From the seventh to the eleventh year of Hongwu in the Ming Dynasty (1374 to 1378), the Xi'an City was expanded and this gate was used as the south gate and renamed "Yongning Gate". However, the three-door archway with lintels in the Sui and Tang Dynasties was changed to a single archway with bricks. It has been passed down through the Qing Dynasty and the Republic of China and has been used to this day. In June of the first year of the Republic of China (1912), Zhang Fenghui, the governor of Shaanxi, wrote the lintel for Yongning Gate.

Today, Yongning Gate has completely preserved the Ming Dynasty's "three-story gate and three-story building" structure.

Yongning Gate has completely preserved the Ming Dynasty's "three-story gate and three-story building" structure. It is the most completely restored of the four gates in the Xi'an city wall.

The Yongning Gate Gatehouse was first built in the ninth year of the reign of Emperor Chongzhen of the Ming Dynasty (1636). In the sixteenth year of the reign of Emperor Chongzhen of the Ming Dynasty (1643), Li Zicheng's army attacked Xi'an and the gatehouse was destroyed in the war. Yongning Gate Arrow Tower was first built in the 11th year of Hongwu in the Ming Dynasty (1378). It was destroyed in the war when the Zhensong Army besieged Xi'an in 1926. In April 2014, the Arrow Tower was rebuilt.

The main building of Yongning Gate was originally the city tower of Anshang Gate. It was rebuilt in a unified style in the 11th year of Hongwu in the Ming Dynasty (1378). It was renovated many times in the 5th year of Jiajing in the Ming Dynasty (1526), the Qing Dynasty, the Republic of China, and the Republic of China, and has been used to this day.

Yongning Gate, Xi'an people call it the South Gate, which means "eternal peace". Yongning Gate should be the longest-used gate in Xi'an. It was first built in the Sui Dynasty and was called Anshang Gate at that time. It is the south gate of the palace city. The existing city gate defense system is complete, with the main tower, Wengcheng, Arrow Tower, Moon City, and Gate Tower. Although it is a reconstruction, it is also good.

The ticket is 54 yuan, and the combined ticket with the Forest of Steles is 100 yuan. It is recommended to visit the Forest of Steles first, and then walk from the Wenchang Gate on the city wall in front of the Forest of Steles to the Yongning Gate, which is only 600 meters away and not tiring.

By Horses trample on Donghu |

The South Gate was called "Yongning Gate" in ancient times. It is the oldest and longest-used gate in the Xi'an City Wall. It was first built in the early Sui Dynasty (582 AD) and renamed "Yongning Gate" in the Ming Dynasty. In Chinese folk culture, people believe that the south is the location of the God of Fire. To avoid fire, stoves are generally not opened to the south. The meaning of "Yongning" at the South Gate is to pray to the God of Fire to prevent fires and to ensure peace forever. To show sincerity, the South Gate will never be opened. It is the most completely restored of the four gates in the Xi'an City Wall.

Yongning Gate is the south gate of Xi'an, which was first built in the early Sui Dynasty and rebuilt in the Ming Dynasty. This gate is the most popular due to its proximity to the Forest of Steles Museum. The tickets seemed a bit expensive.

The ancient city wall is indeed a good place to take photos, with gray-green brick walls, high-hanging lanterns, classical towers, and neat battlements. Looking out, you can also be surprised to find golden ginkgo trees. The top of the city wall is spacious enough for a large truck to run. There are not many tourists, and it feels like you can take beautiful photos in every corner. After walking for a while, I found a bicycle rental point and rented 2 bicycles, which can be ridden for three hours, 45 yuan per bicycle, with a deposit of 100 yuan.

Yongning Gate is the south gate of Xi'an. There is an escalator 20 meters inside Exit B of Yongning Gate Station on Metro Line 2, which leads to Yongning Gate. The combined ticket for Xi'an City Wall and Forest of Steles Museum is ¥100, or you can buy Xi'an City Wall tickets separately.

The ancient city wall is also a must-see attraction, because walking around the ancient city wall is equivalent to walking around the city of Xi'an.

Yongning Gate is recommended to be visited at dusk, so you can enjoy the sunset and the magnificent night view. The city wall is very suitable for photography. Yongning Gate is the South Gate. In fact, the bell tower is slightly closer to the South Gate than the other gates that can be accessed. Moreover, this is the largest and most luxurious gate in the city wall, and it is also the last to close at night. The ticket price for going up the city wall is 54 yuan, and 27 yuan for students. There is a QR code at the gate to pay directly without queuing, which is convenient.

The Yongning Gate Tower is even more beautiful at night.

The ticket office at the South Gate (Yongning Gate) is quite regular, with a ticket price of 54 yuan, and half price for students. If you need to ride a bicycle, you need to pay attention to the low and uneven road surface, which is a bit bumpy. A single bicycle costs 45 yuan, a double bicycle costs 90 yuan, and the deposit is 200 yuan. And it must be paid in cash, cash, cash.

The time is from 8:00 to 19:00, including Yongning Gate (the South Gate is open until 23:00), with a total length of nearly 14 kilometers. It takes about 3 hours to walk a circle, more than 1 hour to ride a bicycle, and 1 hour by electric car. Most people choose between the South and North Gates, but you can also choose according to your own situation.

If it is a sunny day, you can arrive in the evening and visit the night view together. It will be hotter at noon and there will be no buildings to block the view.

The buildings within the city walls are relatively ancient and have been kept relatively intact, while outside the city walls are high-rise buildings that are colorful.

It would be nice to visit in the evening.

It had just rained, and it was cool and comfortable on the city wall. Riding on the city wall made people feel like flying.

By Deep and Quiet |

At night, Xi'an becomes Chang'an! There will be performances at Yongning Gate, but you need to buy a ticket.

By Bamboo Rain and Pine Wind |

The city gate is tall and majestic. Due to the military defense needs at that time, Yongning Gate was designed as a single gate with three city walls in the front, middle and back, and an inner city formed between the two walls.

There are three levels of the tower: the gate tower, the arrow tower, and the main tower. The main tower has four flying corners, three-story eaves, and a corridor around it. It is antique and majestic. Walking up the city wall, it is very wide. Imagine the war scene of war with smoke rising everywhere, chariots galloping side by side on it, and golden swords and iron horses. It happened that there were boys and girls from the Sinology Society doing activities on the city wall, which added a lot of ancient charm to the city wall.

The ancient city wall is nearly 14 kilometers long. If you have time, you can rent a bicycle and ride around the wall.

"As long as the city wall is there, the city's pattern is there; as long as the pattern is there, life is there." I think it is precisely because of this that Xi'an has its unique charm. Inside the city wall is the old city, the land framed by the city wall has been there for hundreds of years, and the inside and outside of the city have long changed in thousands of ways.

It felt like I just climbed this hill for the sake of a visit. There was no ceremony to open the city gates as promised at 9 o'clock, and when I asked any questions in the scenic area, they didn't know anything. What kind of tourist attraction is this?

Yongning Gate is the south gate of the ancient city wall of Xi'an. The gate has been fenced off to form the South Gate Square. As the entrance to the South Gate, you need to go through the underground passage of the subway station. The existing city wall was built in the Ming Dynasty, and the arrow tower was restored later. There is a beautiful moat around it. When I saw that this gate was reserved by Han Jian in the late Tang Dynasty as the south gate of the new city, I couldn't help but think of the stories in the late Tang Dynasty and the Five Dynasties~~ It was at this time that Zhu Wen demolished Chang'an City~~
