It is the earliest museum established in Shaanxi. It is an art museum mainly focusing on collecting, researching and displaying steles, epitaphs and stone sculptures from past dynasties.
The museum area consists of three parts: the Confucius Temple, the Forest of Steles, and the Stone Carving Art Room, covering an area of more than 31,900 square meters, with more than 11,000 cultural relics and 11 exhibition rooms.
The most famous ones are the inscriptions of famous calligraphers such as Yan Zhenqing, Liu Gongquan, and Huaisu, as well as the two Tang Dynasty inscriptions, "Shitai Filial Piety Classic" and "Kaicheng Stone Classic".
The museum not only has stone tablets, but also stone carvings and some other cultural relics on display.

The Beilin Museum is located at Wenchang Gate in Xi'an, and the ticket price is 60 yuan. It is more appropriate to buy a combined ticket for the Beilin Museum and the city wall, 100 yuan for adults. Children do not have a combined ticket, and both places are half price, 25 yuan for the Beilin and 27 yuan for the city wall. The Beilin Museum is a place that calligraphy lovers must go to, which makes me, who does not know much, attracted by the powerful charm exuded here. Asking a guide to taste it carefully will make you have endless aftertaste! There are two types of explanations in the museum, real-person explanations and explanation devices. An explanation device that costs 30 yuan is really not as good as asking a real person to explain it for 100 yuan, and it is 100 yuan for no more than 6 people.
With a history of more than 900 years, this thematic museum was expanded on the basis of the Confucius Temple. It collects stone carvings, epitaphs, inscriptions, and stone sculptures from past dynasties. The explanation machine costs 30 yuan per unit. I don't know the deposit. We downloaded the "Smart Guide" APP on our mobile phones. Looking at the cultural relics on the spot, we can listen to the explanation directly with headphones. It is recommended to use it. Search for Xi'an Beilin Museum. There is an exhibition hall explanation inside, which can also be listened to at home. It is very practical!
Located in the Beilin District of Xi'an, it is the earliest museum established in Shaanxi. It mainly collects, displays and studies steles, epitaphs and stone carvings of past dynasties, and has become a unique art museum in China. There are more than 11,000 cultural relics in the museum, including 134 national treasures and 535 first-class cultural relics. Four of the famous "Six Horses of Zhaoling" are collected in this museum. The exhibition consists of three parts: the stele forest, stone carving art and other cultural relics exhibition, with a total of 12 exhibition rooms. There are currently 7 stele rooms, 8 stele corridors, 8 stele pavilions, plus the stone carving art room and 4 cultural relics exhibitions, with a display area of 4,900 square meters.
If you are particularly interested in history and culture, you can set aside most of the day to visit it. I didn't expect the museum's collection to be so rich, so I didn't arrive until 2:30 in the afternoon, so I didn't have time to see it later, and had to rush through it, which was a pity.
Ticket recommendation: Buy a combined ticket for the museum and the city wall, which can only be purchased on site. If you have a ticket for the Terracotta Warriors, you can get an additional 20% discount. Remember, please explain.
On-site rubbings can be sold at the souvenir shop if you like. I bought Bodhidharma's Voyage to the East and Preface to the Lanting Collection, which cost me 590 yuan, which is really not cheap.
For those who like calligraphy, the Forest of Steles Museum is a must-visit place. The only handwriting of Mi Fu in the Forest of Steles is the four scrolls. Mi Fu's running script is very powerful, strong, unrestrained and elegant. If you are interested, you can search online to feast your eyes.
After seeing the stone carvings, don't leave in a hurry. There is an exhibition hall opposite it called "Chang'an Buddhist Rhyme". Not many people visit it, and it is a place that is easily overlooked, but it is worth a visit.
The museum sells tickets for 50 yuan per person, and you can buy tickets on China-TravelNote for 45 yuan per person. China-TravelNote also provides an electronic guide. It is recommended that groups of more than three people spend 100 yuan to hire a human guide. I followed the human guide and it was much more interesting than the electronic guide. It costs 30 yuan per person to rent an electronic guide in the scenic area.
The Beilin Museum is of course a place to see calligraphy art. Just after entering the gate, on the left is Sun Yat-sen's collection from the Republic of China period. It is the only place where I can see the characters clearly. The light is very good. If you are interested, you can take a closer look. Inside, there are various steles with authentic calligraphy engraved on them. There are seven stone carving collection halls and a Buddhist statue hall. The lighting in the stone carving collection hall is quite bad, and there are very few characters that can be seen clearly. But later I heard that there are simplified Chinese annotations engraved on the back of the stone. If you are interested, you can take a look at that. I left without taking a closer look. There is also a Buddhist statue hall, which displays various Buddhist stone carvings excavated after Buddhism was introduced to China. They are very exquisite.
Tickets are 50, with half price for students.
There are probably some inscriptions inside, and nothing but inscriptions. It's super boring.
But I was lucky enough to see the staff rubbing the inscriptions on paper and making portraits.
There are inscriptions of various masters, such as Yan Zhenqing, Wang Xizhi, etc., as well as inscriptions of some historical books, such as Records of the Grand Historian, Spring and Autumn Annals, etc.
There are also neatly arranged little lions in the yard.
Be sure to rent an electronic interpreter, or join other tourists in getting a manual interpreter, otherwise you'll just be looking at a bunch of stone tablets, which is boring.
The maple leaves in the museum are in full bloom in November, and the yellow leaves all over the ground are beautiful. You can wear a nice skirt to take pictures of the autumn scenery.
Recommended playing time: 1~2 hours
Students who like calligraphy should like this museum very much. If you are not interested, I think this is a place you can give up.
Xi'an Forest of Steles Museum is a national key cultural relic protection unit, a national AAAA-level tourist attraction, and a national first-class museum. It is also the earliest museum established in Shaanxi. It mainly collects, displays and studies steles, epitaphs and stone carvings from past dynasties, and has become a unique art museum in China. The museum provides rubbing services, which is to print the text on the stele on rice paper with ink, and the price is not cheap. It is said that in order to protect cultural relics, the steles that are allowed to be hammered are all in the fourth room, mainly from the Ming and Qing dynasties, and only the rubbings in the Forest of Steles are authentic.
It is a very worthwhile place to visit, whether you learn calligraphy or not, they are real historical monuments, from words to pictures, sculptures, etc., hiding thousands of years of history of our ancient civilization. Walking past each monument, it seems like you are talking to the ancient times.
The Forest of Stone Steles Museum in Xi'an is the earliest museum established in Shaanxi. It is mainly engaged in the collection, display and research of steles, epitaphs and stone carvings of past dynasties, and has become a unique art museum in China. There are more than 11,000 cultural relics in the museum, including 134 pieces of 19 national treasures and 535 first-class cultural relics. Four of the famous "Six Horses of Zhaoling" are collected in this museum. The exhibition consists of three parts: the forest of steles, stone carving art and other cultural relics exhibition, with a total of 12 exhibition rooms. There are currently 7 stele rooms, 8 stele corridors, 8 stele pavilions, plus the stone carving art room and 4 cultural relics exhibitions, with a display area of 4,900 square meters.
You can buy tickets online through WeChat for 65 yuan per person, and through Dianping one day in advance for 60 yuan, with a QR code. The explanation fee is 100 yuan per batch in Chinese, and you can pay with Alipay. The tour guides here are quite good, and the explanations are better than those at the Shaanxi History Museum. My daughter can understand them.
My daughter has also written calligraphy in Ouyang's style. There is only one stele here that is in Ouyang's style. The handwriting is relatively light, while some stele have darker handwriting. In fact, I think that being able to write calligraphy is not a skill. The people who carved these stele have real skills. They have to study the fonts thoroughly and not make a single mistake. It is not easy. But in ancient times, calligraphers seemed to be more famous, and their craftsmen were all unknown.
Xi'an Forest of Steles is a highly recommended attraction on this trip! There are many famous celebrity inscriptions in it. In addition, four of the originals of the national treasure Zhaoling Six Horses are in the Forest of Steles. Don't forget to see them.
Xi'an Beilin Museum is mainly for collecting, displaying and studying the inscriptions, epitaphs and stone carvings of past dynasties. Interested travelers can go in and study them carefully. The Temple of Confucius and the Beilin Museum are in the same place.
It is best to do some homework in advance for the Beilin Museum, as there is a lot of content. Because there were children learning calligraphy, we walked around very slowly and had many questions, so it was past mealtime when we finished. The tour guide is 100 yuan/up to 5 people~ It is a little boring for children who are not in school, but you can guide them to follow the tour~ Use the words that the children understand to simply describe what they are visiting~ If you don’t know, you can ask. Children without curiosity are the most terrible
This is the place with the largest collection of ancient steles and inscriptions in China. It is a place not to be missed for art lovers, calligraphy lovers, and ancient culture lovers. If you practice copying ancient calligraphy, many original inscriptions are collected here. In addition, there are some precious stone carvings, and four of the "Six Beauties of Zhaoling" are collected here.

The Xi'an Forest of Steles is the place with the largest number of existing ancient steles in my country and is a treasure house of Chinese calligraphy art.
The Xi'an Beilin Museum is located at No. 15, Sanxue Street, Beilin District, Xi'an City, Shaanxi Province. It is the earliest museum established in Shaanxi. It mainly collects, displays and studies inscriptions, epitaphs and stone carvings from past dynasties, making it a unique art museum in China.
The inscriptions, calligraphy and paintings are all very good. I think it would be nice to find a guide. Otherwise, I'd better not go.
I don't think it's interesting, just some inscriptions
It is definitely worth going, and you must ask for an explanation. It is a priceless treasure unique to Xi'an.
There are so many good steles. It is a good place to learn calligraphy and history. You can find many good things just by strolling around. It is hard to describe in words. It is a tourist attraction that will make outsiders envy being able to live in Xi'an. The scenery is also very good.
In addition to understanding the craft of stele rubbing, you can also learn about the Six Horses of Zhaoling Mausoleum.
There was no one in the morning, which was very nice. The guide's explanation was quite interesting, but we couldn't understand it at all if we read it by ourselves. The various calligraphy works were impressive. The characters on the stele in the Forest of Steles were missing a stroke.
I need to find an interpreter, otherwise I won’t understand~
It would be better to hire an interpreter. At that time, I thought that since there were not enough people, I would not be able to get an interpreter, so I did not hire one. As it turned out, looking at hundreds of steles alone made me confused. It felt like I was looking at stones. I had no idea where they came from or what stories they had. I could only ask for an interpreter.
Whether you are interested in calligraphy or not, it is recommended to come here. You can come here to see the calligraphy if you are interested, or to cultivate your interest if you are not interested, especially for children. There is a story behind each famous stele. It is not only about the origin of the stele, but also about getting to know each famous calligrapher through the text, as if you are talking to the ancients. It is definitely worth the trip to find an interpreter.
The best trip to Xi'an ❤️ It is a great benefit for calligraphy lovers. I saw many inscriptions for calligraphy enlightenment. It is recommended to ask for an explanation, otherwise you really can't understand it by yourself.
We didn't go in, but just checked in at the door! Green bricks, green tiles, gray sculptures, plus the afterglow of the sunset! The leaves are yellow, but the maple leaves have not fallen yet.
Those who are interested in calligraphy should not miss it. Many inscriptions of famous articles can be copied on site to feel the mark of history.
After visiting the Shaanxi History Museum in the morning, I took a shuttle bus directly from the Shaanxi History Museum to the Forest of Steles Museum. This place is completely different from the Shaanxi History Museum, with mostly outdoor stone stele exhibitions. Friends who have a special interest in text should like it very much~
You must hire a good tour guide when visiting a museum. This is our impression. In the Forest of Steles, wandering around without any cultural background will make you feel less and less interested. But with someone to guide you, you will enjoy it more and more.
The Forest of Steles is a holy place for students who study calligraphy. Various famous calligraphy works are within easy reach. The famous calligraphy works of Yan Zhenqing and Zhang Xu are all there. They are worth seeing, big and small. It's a bit messy without explanation. I look around a lot. It's recommended to find a good explanation.
It is worth spending more time to visit the Forest of Steles. Two hours is not enough to take a close look at it.
The Forest of Steles, the first batch of national key cultural relics protection units (No. 1 in the stone carving category), a national first-class museum, and a national AAAAA-level tourist attraction, currently houses more than 11,000 cultural relics, including 134 national treasures of 19 types (sets). Four of the famous "Six Horses of Zhaoling" are hidden in the Forest of Steles.
The Forest of Steles can be said to be a must-see attraction when visiting Xi'an, but in fact not many people go there. There is a good atmosphere to appreciate and feel these thousand-year-old steles. This attraction is really worth spending a day to experience.
The Forest of Steles is named after the clusters of steles standing like a forest, but the Forest of Steles Museum is not only fascinating because of the steles. It was built on the basis of the ancient Forest of Steles and expanded using the ancient architectural complex of the Temple of Confucius in Xi'an. It consists of three parts: the Temple of Confucius, the Forest of Steles, and the Stone Carving Art Room. Each part has several national treasures as representatives. I wrote a travelogue for a detailed introduction. It is of high quality. If you are interested, you can go and have a look.
As the saying goes: laymen see the excitement, experts see the doorway. If you just look at it without a deep understanding, the monuments are just cold stones, at best just calligraphy works with some words written on them.
Only when you calm down and listen carefully to the tour guide's explanation, can you know the story behind each monument and feel that the cold stone has flesh and blood and life.
Coming to the Forest of Steles, people who have practiced calligraphy will have an inexplicable feeling. You can find the inscriptions of Liu Gongquan's "Xuanmiao Pagoda Stele", Yan Zhenqing's "Duobao Pagoda Induction Stele", and the official script Cao Quan Stele, which is more commonly written. When I was young, I liked the "silkworm head and swallow tail" of official script, and thought the Cao Quan Stele was gentle and elegant. Now I prefer the plain and thick Liqi Stele. Unfortunately, there is only the Cao Quan Stele here.
The inscriptions here range from the Tang Dynasty to the Ming and Qing Dynasties, from the "Book of Songs" and "Er Ya" to historical maps, covering everything. Even people with ordinary attainments would find it difficult to calm down and appreciate them all.
There are many stone pillars of various shapes outside the exhibition room. It turns out that these are the famous Weibei horse tying posts. I particularly admire the creativity and appreciation of the ancients. An ordinary horse tying post becomes interesting under the craftsmen's ingenious imagination.
Friends who like calligraphy, please have a look. The Beilin Museum is a real feast for your eyes. There are authentic works of Wang Xizhi, Emperor Xuanzong of Tang, Liu Gongquan, Yan Zhenqing, Huaisu and Zhang Xu. If you don't understand calligraphy, it is necessary to ask for explanation.
Passing through the Shuyuan Gate is the Beilin Museum, which requires admission. I don't think I have the level to appreciate the inscriptions, and I just wandered around, so I didn't go in. There is a very unique small shop in a small road at the entrance of the Beilin Gate. I had a cold noodle in it. It was sour and good. The decoration inside was also very exquisite~~
It houses steles from the Han Dynasty to the Qing Dynasty and the Republic of China, spanning nearly two thousand years, and is a huge treasure house of calligraphy and stone carving art. In ancient times, only those who passed the imperial examination could walk across Panshui Bridge. The first gate of the Confucius Temple is called Lingxing Gate. The top scholar can walk through the middle gate, people of virtue can walk through the east gate, and distinguished guests can walk through the west gate.
Anyway, now, all three doors are closed, so you can only go in through the side door. The Jingyun Bell and the Daxia Stone Horse are on the left and right wings near the entrance.
The two characters "Beilin" were written by Lin Zexu, the one who banned smoking. He didn't write any typos. In ancient times, the character "Bei" could be written without the stroke. Do you think he would make such a low-level mistake? The most important thing is that there is a stele called the first stele of Xi'an Beilin, which is also the welcoming stele of Beilin - Tang Xuanzong's "Shitai Xiaojing Stele". Beilin Museum has a total of seven exhibition rooms, which collect the works of many calligraphy masters from various dynasties. My favorite is Master Zhao's running script, which is elegant and elegant, and has the essence of Wang Xizhi. The rubbings of Master Zhao's works have a moist feeling of ink not drying. They are produced by Beilin Museum and are very delicate, but they cost 880 per copy, so I gave up reluctantly. The exhibition content of the stone carving art room is mainly tomb stone carvings from the Han Dynasty to the Ming and Qing Dynasties. Beilin Museum has a quiet environment, few people and beautiful scenery, and is also a very suitable place for taking pictures.
Where there is writing, there is calligraphy. If you are interested in calligraphy, this is a must-go place.
Besides, I also recommended Beilin Hesenbao--Xiaobai
Although it is called a museum, it is not free. Many tourists are calligraphy enthusiasts. The stone tablets in the museum are all authentic and worth visiting and studying. You can buy very precious original copybooks here. The most expensive set seems to be tens of thousands of yuan. It is said that the collection value is relatively high. I was lucky enough to encounter the on-site rubbing of the stone tablets, which broadened my horizons!
One of the more attractive activities in the museum is the on-site rubbings, and the museum staff has strict regulations on the number of rubbings that can be made each day.
I think the Forest of Steles Museum is a national treasure-level holy place. Even people who don't understand calligraphy should come to the Forest of Steles to admire these steles. It would be a great pity if you come to Xi'an but don't come to the Forest of Steles. It costs 30 yuan per person to rent a guide in the Forest of Steles, and I forgot whether the manual guide is 80 or 100 yuan. Based on our experience of listening to the guide and listening to the manual guide, it feels that the manual guide's explanation is more exciting, vivid, clear, focused, more detailed and more impressive. If you don't know about calligraphy art, it is strongly recommended to buy the manual explanation service. Otherwise, if you don't listen to the explanation and can't understand the calligraphy on the stone tablet, it's like coming here in vain, your mind is still empty, and you can't recognize even if there are thousands of treasures in front of you. As for the guide, there are quite a lot of cultural relics explained, more than 100, but the explanation is not focused. The stele that should be explained the most is not detailed enough. After listening, I feel that I didn't remember anything and it was boring, but it's better than just reading it. . .
As the name suggests, they are various stone tablets, which people who are good at calligraphy will like very much.
Therefore, the ancients had a habit of collecting. Here you can find many authentic calligraphy works by famous masters, and many tourists buy rubbings. You can also see the staff rubbing the stone tablets on the spot~~
2018.08
Students who learn calligraphy must visit this spot
After seeing so many famous stone tablets, I finally understood why calligraphy works are all printed in that way.
Because many of the ducks copied from the stone tablet
The biggest feeling about the Stone Stele Forest is what the tour guide said
There are very few authentic works of Su Dongpo left in China nowadays, so this might be the only one?
Japan and remote provinces know more about it and have more authentic works than we do in China.
They know Su Dongpo better
Oh, it's Japan again. What a pity!
The ticket to the Beilin Museum is 100, which includes the ancient city wall of Xi'an. To be honest, it is more cost-effective to buy the ticket this way!
As the name suggests, the Beilin Museum is all about steles. But there is also stone carving art. There are also many authentic steles and great calligraphers, such as Yan Zhenqing, Wang Xizhi, and Su Shi!
Many of the characters have been worn away by sunlight, and only faint traces can be seen on some of them, which gives them a strong sense of history. Some are also very clear!
After visiting several main rooms, there is a stone sculpture art gallery next to it, all of which are works with a certain history.
There are not many tourists. There are many inscriptions and calligraphy by famous calligraphers from past dynasties, and four of the famous Six Horses of Zhaoling are also here.
The Beilin Museum was not included in our original itinerary, but we later found that the Beilin Museum is the place with the least tourists and is relatively quiet. Friends who are interested can add it to their itinerary.
Many people were taking photos with their phones, how much they love calligraphy. The characters are beautiful. Many of the Buddha statues had their heads chopped off, which were dug out during the construction of the college or airport.
Many parents bring their children to copy calligraphy, and they find many classic inscriptions there, which they can slowly visit and explore.
Tourists who are interested in calligraphy may wish to go there. Many authentic works of famous masters are in it, and you can also learn a lot of knowledge here. The words inscribed by the emperor are called imperial stele. The stele is huge, and the top and base of the stele are engraved with dragons or mythical beasts, with exquisite craftsmanship. Some ordinary steles are petite and much more low-key. People are of different ranks, and steles are also of different ranks. But as far as the art of calligraphy itself is concerned, the words of famous masters are generally better than those of the emperor.
In addition to numerous stone steles by famous artists, I mainly went to see the stone carving exhibition hall, where four of the famous stone carvings of the Six Horses of Zhaoling were displayed. Unfortunately, I only saw three authentic ones, as one was blocked due to partial maintenance in the exhibition hall.
It is better to ask for an explanation, otherwise we laymen basically have no source of appreciation. The museum is basically filled with ancient inscriptions with a sense of age, and there are more primary school students visiting.
There are many inscriptions, portrait bricks, stone carvings on display, which are worth visiting for calligraphy lovers. Works from different eras, such as Yan Zhenqing's "Duobao Pagoda Stele", Liu Gongquan's "Xuanmiao Pagoda Stele", Zhao Ji's Slender Gold Style, Huaisu's works, Cao Quan Stele, etc., are all well preserved.
Xi'an Beilin Museum is a relatively small tourist attraction with few people. It is located near Wenchang Gate. Beilin Museum is very famous and is known as the treasure house of Chinese art. It houses stone tablets dating back more than 2,000 years from the Han and Tang Dynasties to the present. When you come to Beilin, you must ask a guide to tell you its interesting stories, otherwise you can only take a quick look.
In the afternoon, we went to the Forest of Steles Museum. After visiting the Forest of Steles, we went up to the city wall. We could save NT$35 by buying a combined ticket (NT$100) for the Forest of Steles (NT$75) and the city wall (NT$60).
Forest of Steles, the first batch of national key cultural relics protection units (No. 1 in stone carvings), a national first-class museum, and a national AAAA-level tourist attraction, is a museum with a lot of valuables. We bought a 100-yuan ticket for the Forest of Steles and the city wall. The main attractions are:
01-Stone carving part: The stone carving exhibition rooms are distributed on the east and west sides. The exhibition room on the west side is under maintenance, but the basic exhibition is still visible. The highlights are the stone coffin of Li Xiaoxiao, the stone rhinoceros of Xianling Mausoleum, the Six Horses of Zhaoling Mausoleum, etc. There is no air-conditioning inside and it is very hot; on the east side is the relatively new Stone Carving Art Museum. The highlights are stone carvings from various dynasties. Unfortunately, the central air-conditioning was broken at that time, and as a result, it was even hotter than outdoors and on the west side, and I had no interest in viewing the exhibition at all.
02-Forest of Steles: The 7 old-style basic exhibition rooms have no air conditioning, and the visitor complaint book is full of "too hot". Fortunately, the exhibition room is not big and well ventilated, which is slightly better than the Stone Carving Museum. Many well-known steles are in it. Most of the exhibition rooms have no lights, and the steles are covered with glass, which affects the visit a bit. Some exhibition rooms have on-site rubbings that can be visited.
03-Jingyun Bell and Daxia Stone Horse: on the left and right wings near the entrance.
04-The Ming and Qing Dynasty buildings such as the screen wall, memorial archway, Panchi, Lingxing Gate, Huabiao, Jimen, stele pavilion, and two wings at the entrance are part of the old Confucius Temple.
It has a lot of history and is worth a visit. I bought a rubbing of Empress Dowager Cixi's "Flowers Bloom and Wealth Comes" there.
Xi'an Beilin Museum is worth seeing. There are calligraphy works by Wang Xizhi, Ouyang Xun, Zhao Mengfu, Mi Fu, Huang Tingjian, etc. It is worthy of being called a stone library. The direct bus at the East Gate and the package ticket of Beilin + Shaanxi History Museum are also very convenient. There are also buses to take you there. The queue at the History Museum is really known to everyone.
A museum composed of stone tablets and cultural relics is quite shocking. Different calligraphy styles, ancient Chinese characters from different periods, Tang Dynasty Buddha statues, traditional handicrafts and the famous Zhaoling Six Horses are a rare feast. If you like to appreciate calligraphy, then this trip is definitely worthwhile. Walking slowly among the stone tablets and pondering the mindset of the engravers is a unique experience.
The tickets are very expensive, and I don't have much cultural background, so I don't quite understand the steles inside. Most of the steles are in glass cabinets, and they are indoors, so it's quite dark, so I can't see anything clearly, and even if I can see it clearly, I can't understand it.
The only bright spot is that in order to make the text on the stele clear, it was made into paper form, and it was patted with ink to form a black background with white text, which is easy to read.
This is the world of calligraphy. If you are interested in calligraphy, you must not miss it.
Ancient buildings can be seen everywhere in the museum, making people feel like traveling through time. Although it is inconvenient on rainy days, it also adds a different kind of poetry. There are 7 exhibition halls, displaying various stone tablets. On the stone tablets, different styles of fonts are displayed. Huaisu's cursive script, Yan Zhenqing's running script, regular script, etc., Chinese characters bloom in the long river of Chinese history. Friends who practice calligraphy should like this place more. During the visit, I also saw many students from art schools coming to study.
Ticket price: There is a joint ticket discount with the city wall: 100 for adults and half price for students.
There is a giant stone carving of a horse in the park. It's awesome! There are several such buildings beside the main road. I don't know what they are called. There are stone tablets inside. The surrounding atmosphere is very good. It feels like there are only a few maids in ancient costumes walking on the road with trays. In addition to the words, there are also some carvings. It is very beautiful.
As a calligraphy enthusiast, you can pay homage to the original works of masters from all dynasties, including Yan Zhenqing, Chu Suiliang, Liu Gongquan, Ouyang Xun, Huaisu, Huang Tingjian, Mi Fu, Dong Qichang, etc.
There are mythical beasts standing on the red walls and the white snow has not yet completely melted. The background music at this time should be "Half awake from a dream, I realize how cold it is"...
The most important thing when visiting a museum (including cultural landscapes) is to listen to the explanations. It is best to hire a tour guide. The tour guide is rather useless and can only be considered better than nothing. If you don't listen to the explanations, you will miss a lot of wonderful content. After all, we are not professional scholars and our knowledge reserves are limited. Many things that seem insignificant to us actually have a lot of background.
Take the Forest of Steles for example. If you don’t want to listen to the explanation, I really don’t recommend it, because you may finish the tour in ten minutes and still not understand anything, secretly cursing that you wasted your ticket money…
The museum mainly displays stone carvings and inscriptions from various dynasties. Students who love calligraphy can go there. If you are familiar with calligraphy, you will know that there are "Yan Family Temple Stele", "Yan Qinli Stele" and "Xuanmiao Pagoda Stele" in regular script, "Cao Quan Stele" in official script, and "Lanting Preface" in running script carved by people in the Qing Dynasty.
There are also rubbing activities, which I think is worth experiencing.
There are also the famous Shitai Filial Piety Sutra and Daxia Stone Horse.
A paradise for calligraphy lovers and history lovers~
This is really a place of literati and poets. As soon as I entered the gate, I smelled a strong smell of ink. In the first hall, to be honest, I basically didn't understand it. Although there were many inscriptions, I just thought the words were beautiful.
I saw many inscriptions by famous calligraphers in the 2nd and 3rd galleries, which were really great.
The Forest of Steles is a great place for friends who love calligraphy and painting, and it is also a good place to bring children to learn!
Tips: The ticket here is 75 yuan, half price is 37 yuan, the key point is: Forest of Steles + City Wall Ticket = 100 yuan. The city wall alone is 54 yuan. One lady went up the city wall first and came down to the Forest of Steles, so she lost a lot. I am very satisfied with my trip
Xi'an Beilin Museum, formerly known as Shaanxi Provincial Museum, was built in 1944. It is an art museum that collects, studies and displays steles, epitaphs and stone sculptures from past dynasties. In the Stone Carving Art Museum, you can see exquisite stone carvings such as the Four Gods Tomb Gate, the Six Horses of the Tang Zhaoling Mausoleum, Confucius Meets Laozi, and the Azure Dragon and Vermillion Bird. Tickets: 75 yuan. Interested friends can come and visit. I am not interested in calligraphy and stele carvings, so I did not go in to visit.
There are many original steles in the Beilin Museum. My companion likes it very much because she has practiced calligraphy for more than ten years. Sometimes, Dajun can explain to me the inscriptions and the fonts of calligraphers. We basically follow other people's explanations and follow the guides to better understand the mysteries of these steles and calligraphy.
The temple of culture is worth learning.
The Forest of Steles Museum is near Wenchang Gate. There are many stone tablets and epitaphs from various dynasties. These stone carvings are of great historical value, and some are famous calligraphy works. Stone tablets such as Shitai Xiaojing, Kaicheng Stone Scripture, Yan Family Temple Tablet, and Dada Master Xuanmiao Pagoda Tablet are all rare treasures. It is best to ask for a guide when you come here, otherwise you will not know many details.
