This building, which looks quite unique, was a prison in the past, but it was a high-level prison that was specifically for European prisoners; Chinese prisoners were held in more remote and simpler suburbs. The prison is divided into five buildings, which are ironically named "Ren, Yi, Li, Zhi, Xin". The "Ren" building seems to be preserved now. After the Germans evacuated, the Japanese occupied this place again. Now the water dungeon, the torture room, and the torture room left by the Japanese are still preserved. In the dim and cramped room, looking at those simple metal or wooden tools from a distance, you can feel the horror of them with just a little imagination. The young child was very interested in these things and asked to stay a little longer, and repeatedly played with the ventilation holes on the cell door.
This time, I followed the navigation and turned to the entrance of the former German prison. Where can I park? I quickly searched for nearby parking lots, which were only 150 meters away. I drove around and around... The ticket office at the former German prison does not accept cash. You can only pay by scanning the QR code with your mobile phone. The fee is 25 yuan.
The former German prison site looks like a European castle, and the most important thing is this pointed column-like building, which is actually a spiral staircase between each floor. The rest doesn't seem so new now.
The prison was built in 1900. It was originally a prison used by Germany to detain non-Chinese prisoners. Later, Qingdao was occupied by Japan and used to detain and torture Chinese anti-Japanese patriots.
I went downstairs from the third floor to the underground water dungeon interrogation room. I finally saw the spiral staircase I had always missed. I realized that the spire I saw outside was actually a spiral staircase.
You must take photos here, it's so beautiful! It's like walking into an ancient dream, with unique window lighting, alternating light and dark on the stairs, and an illusory feeling of looking for something.
The museum is closed, but even if it is not closed, I have no intention of visiting. I have seen some photos of the interior of the beekeepers, but the sense of reality is still a little lacking, and it is not my interest point. I just want to check in, hehe.
German-style castle architecture, a must-see for those interested in German architecture
The first time I went to Qingdao, it happened to be under maintenance, so I went in during my second visit to Qingdao.
As a patriotism education base, the things are a little less and the tickets are a little expensive
You can see it after April. Qingdao is very suitable for summer travel
The architectural style is very distinctive and it is the most complete early colonial building preserved in my country. It is really rare and worth a visit.
The German prison is a European-style building and is not very large.
I wasn't very lucky when I went to Yutong. I finally got there before 4 o'clock, but when I got there, it was closed for some unknown reason. I felt like I went there with high hopes but returned disappointed. As I didn't go in, I can't say much about the inside. I'll just talk about the outside. Many friends have reported that this place is hard to find. In fact, this place is near Luxun Park and it is quite convenient to walk along the coastal route. It is easy to find this place. The building is very distinctive. In fact, it is a solemn prison.
I arrived late in the afternoon and the store was closed. Fortunately, there was a short wall opposite the door. I could stand on the wall and take pictures, or take pictures under the crack of the door. Haha, am I really talented?
The German Prison Museum is under repair and can only be viewed from a distance.
I finished the tour quickly. Inside is the room where the prisoners were held. I think the ticket is a bit expensive.
I couldn't go in during the renovation period, so I took some photos outside.
On the way from the pier to the Naval Museum, on the opposite side of the road, the building is quite distinctive, but the exhibition content is rather boring~
Less than 1,000 meters following the navigation along the line of the Catholic Church, you will find the German Prison Site Museum, a unique museum that integrates a castle-style prison complex and judicial brigade buildings. It is one of the earliest existing colonial prison sites in the country.
Tickets: 25 yuan/person. I bought it on Dianping for 20 yuan/person
Why must you come to this spooky place where prisoners were once held? Because a spiral staircase has become an Internet celebrity attraction:
In fact, this staircase is the exit after visiting the main building. The German Prison Museum is a German castle-style building with thick red brick walls and pointed towers. It is classical and mysterious, making people stop and take pictures.
Inside you will get a glimpse of the interior of the "castle" and learn about its history as a prison and detention center, as well as the prison cell environment. Enter the tour area from here:
The German Prison was built in 1900. It was a prison for non-Chinese prisoners during the German occupation of Qingdao. Therefore, it was also called the "European Prison". It was later used as a prison and detention center by the Japanese invaders and the Nanjing National Government. The former prison site consists of five prison cells, namely "Ren", "Yi", "Li", "Zhi" and "Xin". The "Ren" prison cell is currently open to visitors.
Some of the cells here are equipped with image simulation windows, through which you can watch the short films playing inside, which restore some of the detention scenes. You can also hear the background sound of the whistling north wind, making you feel like you are there.
In the basement of the prison there is a water dungeon built by the invading Japanese army. This is the most eerie and depressing place in the entire prison. Many torture instruments can be seen here. The Japanese army once killed many Chinese anti-Japanese fighters here. It is terrifying to see and imagine.
The interior of the old prison is not large, and mainly includes facilities such as the prison guard duty room, prison cells, and water dungeons. In some rooms, wax figures of people can be seen, including prison guards in uniform and revolutionary martyrs who were once imprisoned. These wax figures appear particularly lifelike in the dark environment of the prison.
A favorite attraction of my friends. Although it was the weekend, I saw many teachers from schools bringing their children to visit. I have no interest in this history at all. After all, I am a science student. There are basically no tour groups in paid attractions. It is much quieter with fewer people. The whole museum is very small. Most of the basements are still very depressing. The water dungeon is right at the entrance. It looks gloomy and scary. There are small windows on the cells. There are also some wax figures that restore the scenes upstairs. There are not many places to visit. It is a bit depressing.
I recommend going to see it, but there are not as many criminal detention simulation scenes as expected. Basically, the prison rooms are empty, with only a few decorations occasionally.
You can go and see it when there are fewer people, but don't go when there are too many people. The tickets are a bit expensive, and people over 60 years old can enjoy half price.
Not many people visit German prisons, it has a sense of history, seeing those torture instruments and execution chambers is really touching, anyway, long live peace
Apart from the castle-like appearance, the rest I can only say is really average! Qingdao is the most regretful, no one else. The content is dull and has no highlights. Maybe I am not at a high level and don't know how to appreciate the history of prisons.
The museum is not big, the appearance is quite unique, suitable for taking pictures, but that's all. You can go with some nearby attractions. The scenery nearby is nice.
It's not as scary and eerie as people say on the Internet, and not many people go there.
Recommendation index: two stars
Price: Adults: 25 yuan/person, Students: 10 yuan/person
Recommended reason: It can give you a more vivid understanding of the behavior of Germany and Japan during their rule in Qingdao. For a college entrance examination candidate who has just finished the college entrance examination, it is a good opportunity to consolidate knowledge. In general, all museum observations are to broaden your horizons.
I came to the prison museum which I was looking forward to, and planned to take pictures of the internet-famous staircase, but I was disappointed. It was very small inside, and there was nothing to see. The underground was a water dungeon that the Japanese had once run, and there were some torture instruments inside, which was a bit eerie.
You can't see anything without buying a ticket. Tickets can be bought online for 20 yuan per ticket. You can also take pictures of the greenery at the entrance. Hahahaha
I just wanted to see this building that was used as a prison. A child said, "The prison is so beautiful. I want to live in a prison too." The child's parents and we all looked very upset after hearing this.
Compared with the furnishings inside, I still prefer the building itself!
The Internet celebrity attraction did have a gloomy feeling when I first stepped in. I didn't dare to take any photos, so I just checked in at the Internet celebrity stairs. The ticket price was 25 yuan, which was really not worth it.
Walk down the mountain from the Ocean University and you will find the former site of the German prison in about 10 minutes.
The German prison is a former colonial prison, but it has been completely renovated and still has the smell of paint, so it doesn't feel that much. Tickets: 17 yuan bought online, 25 yuan on site
The former prison site was transformed into a museum. In a place like a prison, there are very few things that can be displayed in the sun, so most of the things are made up by display boards and photos of letters and documents. The whole museum is not big, but because of the building structure, the tour route in the first building feels quite messy.
I felt very depressed after seeing the ancient torture instruments in the German Prison Museum.
It is close to People's Square, a patriotism education base. The adult ticket is 25 yuan, which is worth it. It is an orange-red building. It is a bit gloomy when you enter, and you will feel inexplicably scared. The spiral red staircase is a place worth taking pictures.
The ticket price for the German Prison Museum is 20 yuan. Actually, there is nothing to see. The only thing is to check in at the spiral staircase.
To be honest, it's still pretty spooky inside, especially the dungeon...
Maybe everyone is here for the spiral staircase, but in fact many old buildings in Qingdao use the conch-shaped structure.
The spiral staircase is very unique and is a good place to take photos.
It was drizzling at the time, which seemed to add to the cold and desolate atmosphere of the prison. Entering the castle, the iron gates on both sides showed the strictness and oppression of the prison.
Cost: 20 per person
But I feel that there is nothing to see inside, it is such a small place, you can choose not to go. When my companion entered, he sighed, "The Japanese are so bad, the Japanese are so bad."
It is very small and only takes half an hour to visit. It is close to People's Square. It is a patriotism education base. Adult ticket is 25 and student ticket is 10 (student ID is required, excluding graduate students)
Although it is open until 5:30 p.m.
It closed early, so friends who want to go should go earlier, around 4 o'clock.
It is not open to the public due to maintenance, but it looks very good and upright from the outside.
I personally don't think there's anything interesting to see, just some literature or something like that.
Tickets: ¥20, half price with student ID (cash)
Visited with classmates in August 2013.
The ticket price for German prisons is 5 yuan per person in the off-season, and the student ticket is also 5 yuan. The overall facilities of the prison seem to be well preserved. After walking around, you can see the dried-up well, the observation deck and the prison workshop (although it is not open). On the side of the "Yi" cell, there are narrow square windows, and the feeling of depression comes to you. Walking into the "Ren" prison, this depression is even worse. The dark corridors and dim lights, although not very long, make people feel that there is no end. When you walk to the water dungeon, there is no water now. The repainted room has hideous torture instruments placed aside. On the empty pillars, you can still see a few clear bloody handprints that can never be erased, or perhaps they are left on purpose, and the roar of the soul imprisoned in the heavy iron door.
Maybe it was because of the off-season, there was no explanation and the "Li" cell was not open. The workshop was also locked, and we could only look at it from a distance through the iron fence. The building near the door displayed the history of the prison and the life stories of many anti-Japanese heroes who were once imprisoned here. When we walked out of here, we felt heavy-hearted.
You can see this orange spire building from a distance. The ticket is very cheap, only 5 yuan in the off-season. During the visit, there were probably only 2-3 waves of tourists.
I really wanted to see the staircase on this trip, but unfortunately it was closed for maintenance. What bad luck.
The exterior view is very good. It is located in Shinan District, where many scenic spots are concentrated. There are Signal Hill Park and Christ Church nearby.
I was so sad. I went there on purpose. I was only interested in this attraction in Qingdao. But I found out that it was closed from 11:30 to 1:30. I felt so disappointed. It should be good. I like things that are a little bit more exciting.
Not bad, I have never seen a similar prison ~ I just prefer the spiral staircase
The spiral staircase is the highlight and you can buy cheap tickets online
You can go and have a look at the history. The ticket is only a few dozen yuan, which is not expensive.
You can buy a ticket to enter the prison. I didn’t go in because I heard it’s very eerie inside. I don’t like such a gloomy place. If you are interested, you can buy your own ticket!
1. It is strongly not recommended to go!!! It is strongly not recommended to go!!! It is strongly not recommended to go!!!
2. There are student tickets, 10 yuan per person. 25 yuan on site, 20 yuan online. Not worth it even with a student ID!!!
3. It smells of paint and is under renovation. I've been to the Yaxian Museum in Pingyao, which is much better than the prison here. I learned a lot and felt a lot!!! There is no feeling here, just a bunch of small houses, no hair at all!!!
4. Seriously bad review!!!
I didn't go in, just passed by. According to travel notes, it's not worth a visit.
The prison has just been renovated and you can see the whole picture of the prison. It is divided into two parts, the front is the exhibition hall and the back is the original site of the prison. The spiral staircase is great, but it is difficult to take pictures, so pay attention to safety.
The former site of the German prison, you need to buy a ticket before 4 o'clock~ I originally planned to take a full view from the outside, but I was locked inside by a big iron door. I couldn't even see the front without buying a ticket. It was so gloomy and scary inside that I didn't dare to take pictures. I just walked around and came out in a hurry!
It is a prison for Germans and Japanese during the occupation of Qingdao. It is ok to have a brief understanding of it, but there is only one small building and the ticket price is a bit expensive.
I actually had high hopes for this, but it has been under renovation since the end of 2016 and has not been open to the public yet, so I could only take pictures from outside, which was a bit disappointing.
The exterior wall looks very nice, like a castle in a fairy tale. There is a large cluster of hydrangeas in the yard. But once you go in, the whole atmosphere is gloomy. The corridors are lined with iron doors that were once locked, and there is also a terrifying dungeon. It is suitable for visiting with friends, lovers, and family, but singles can only rely on themselves. There are some small animations on the door to restore the old situation of the prison. After visiting each level, you will feel very sad when you come out and see the sun.
We finally found the former site of the German prison, but it is temporarily closed to the public due to maintenance.
It was closed and the reopening time is unknown. It's a pity, I was looking forward to it.
Well.....It is a European-style building with colonial characteristics. There are some historical exhibitions inside. You can go and have a look.
The building entered a renovation phase in October 2016 and it is unknown when it will reopen.
Near the hotel we were staying at and looked outside.
This is a rare building both at home and abroad, and it can be preserved so complete and intact. This building was the last time I visited before leaving Qingdao. It is really not necessary to make this trip. It is really great. It is one of the most recommended attractions in Qingdao.
I was very interested in this place before I went there, but maybe I had too high expectations. It's not interesting. The adult ticket is 25 yuan and the student ticket is 10 yuan. You can go and have a look.
Ancient architectural features, historical original appearance, it is worth a visit
It was a bit eerie when I visited the underground cells, but it was a good museum where I could learn a lot.
Legal education base, my friend said there are wronged souls inside.
The ticket is 25, which is a bit expensive, and it is a replica, which is a bit disappointing.
To be honest, it's a bit expensive if you don't buy a student ticket. 25 yuan a ticket doesn't seem worth it, but the student ticket is only 10 yuan per person. So I went in to have a look. There's nothing special about it. It was sunny that day, so I didn't feel it was gloomy. The stairs looked interesting. The building itself looked good.
It seems that you need to buy a ticket. There are some exhibitions inside and the building is very beautiful!
The "European Prison" located at No. 25 Changzhou Road was built in 1900. The old site covers an area of 11.8 acres, with a construction area of 8,297.5 square meters, including 26 buildings of various types. It is a unique building complex with castle-style buildings as the main body. As a typical 19th century German castle-style building, the "European Prison" is the most complete and earliest colonial prison in my country. Such a complete prison is unique in the modern history of Chinese prisons and is rare in the world. Tickets are 25 yuan
