Hengshan Mountain

Last year, I took my parents on a self-driving trip for the first time. We went to Datong, Yungang Grottoes on the first day, and Hengshan on the second day. We were afraid of driving on the mountain roads, so we booked a chartered car on China-TravelNote (if there are no cars on the chartered car booking page during the peak season, you can choose to call, and there will usually be cars)

The next day when we were going down the mountain, it proved that my choice was right. Before we left Hengshan, it started to rain and there were some small landslides and mudslides. There was also a big hole in the road and a taxi fell off! ! ! It was so thrilling!



Back to Hengshan, we asked the driver to drive to the parking lot halfway up the mountain, and then we climbed up. Because my mother's physical strength was limited, we didn't walk too far! The overall feeling was very beautiful! It was so cool in midsummer! I like it very much, and I will climb to the top of the mountain again if I have the chance!



Finally, I would like to recommend the driver, he is a very nice guy, except that the car is a bit broken, there is nothing wrong with it!



I took my parents to Fenglin Pavilion for dinner in the evening. There was a long queue! I recommend friends who want to go there to go at noon and get a dinner number! It saves time!

After visiting the Hanging Temple, I went to Hengshan. After entering, I drove to the right. There was an entrance to drive up the mountain. You would need a ticket to enter the mountain at the entrance. Drive to the middle of the mountain and then go to the ticket gate of the temple. The top of Hengshan is above the temple, so you must buy a ticket to climb Hengshan. After entering the gate, there are Taoist temples all the way. Going up, there is only a mountain road. There is a Hengshan stone tablet on the top. Although it is the New Year, there are still many people climbing Hengshan. After reaching the top, I saw that there was a traffic jam on the Hengshan Road leading to the Hanging Temple, so I hurried down the mountain to go back, fearing that the tourists from Hengshan would gather and leave and get stuck on the road. It is recommended to go early. It is more convenient to take pictures if you go early, otherwise you will have to wait in line for a long time to take a picture.

Hengshan Mountain is one of the Five Sacred Mountains, along with Mount Taishan, Mount Huashan, Mount Hengshan, and Mount Songshan. It is a geographical landmark of China and a sacred place for the Quanzhen Sect of Taoism. The scenery of Hengshan Mountain is generally 2h30' long and can be reached. It takes 3 hours to go back and forth. I heard that there is no entrance fee for ordinary citizens to enter before 6 o'clock in the morning.

Not far from the Hanging Temple is Hengshan Mountain, which has two entrances: one is the cable car entrance at the foot of the mountain, and the other is the mountain climbing entrance halfway up the mountain.

The entrance of the cableway is about 3 kilometers away, but you have to go through a tunnel in the middle, which is somewhat dangerous. It is recommended to share a car at the entrance of the Hanging Temple, which costs 5 yuan per person. If you go to the entrance on the mountainside of Hengshan, it costs 15 yuan per person to share a car, and the most expensive one is only 20 yuan.

Hengshan is a famous Taoist mountain with many Taoist temples. If there are fortune tellers, I suggest you ignore them because most of them are scammers.

The climbing process is rather boring and the scenery is average.

We climbed to the ropeway, and the sky was overcast. We were afraid that it would rain and we would not be able to go down the mountain, so we took the ropeway down the mountain. The Hengshan ropeway is not very long and a little expensive.

If you pass by and have time and energy, you should visit this place, after all, it is one of the Five Great Mountains. But if you decide to include it in your itinerary, it is best to read some relevant literature in advance, otherwise just climbing the mountain will be too lonely.

"Linghu Chong, are you in Hengshan?" We are visiting Hengshan today.

I got up early in the morning, had breakfast, drove south, passed through the numerous traffic lights in Datong city, and finally got on the highway.



Two hours later, we arrived at Hunyuan County, the county seat at the foot of Hengshan Mountain. During the National Day holiday, the local transportation department planned the roads. After a long detour, we saw a long queue of cars. We knew we had found the entrance to the scenic area.



We parked the car on a large open flat land according to the traffic flow, and the parking fee was 5 yuan. Then there would be different shuttle buses to take tourists to Beiyue Hengshan and Hanging Temple respectively. There were also buses between the two attractions to pick up tourists for free.



At that time, I saw many tourists crowded in the waiting area for the Hanging Temple, but there were not many people queuing in the waiting area for Hengshan. I also wanted to climb the mountain first, so I took my friends on the shuttle bus to Hengshan. Then, it was a mistake!

Due to the unique architectural structure of the Hanging Temple and its age, the number of visitors in each batch is limited, resulting in a very slow queue of people wanting to climb the Hanging Temple. We waited in line for 140 minutes before we were able to climb the Hanging Temple.

Next time you visit Hengshan, remember to queue up at the Hanging Temple in the morning!



We took the shuttle bus and got off at Hengshan. For the comfort of my parents, there might not be anything particularly interesting on the way up the mountain, so we bought tickets for the cable car. It cost 70 yuan per person, and the cable car journey was quite high and far.



As soon as we got off the cable car, we arrived near Kuixing Pavilion, saving at least one hour of climbing effort.

Hengshan is a famous Taoist and historical mountain with many temples, inscriptions and ancient trees.



The tour route splits into two at Jiutian Palace. One is the upward route, all the way up to the top of the mountain. The other is the downward route, which is a gentle descent. My parents and the boys had no desire to reach the top, so they slowly descended the mountain. I hurriedly climbed the mountain to avoid my friends at the bottom of the mountain waiting too long.



The climb to the top is about several dozen meters long with a 50-degree slope and narrow width, only wide enough for one person to pass through, and you need to wait for the team ahead to pass through. But the overall difficulty is not great, especially compared to its neighbor, Huashan Mountain, it is still a very easy mountain trail.



In the pavilion near the top of the mountain, porters sell instant noodles, boiled water and drinks every day. The prices are not expensive. It's not easy.



I checked and found that Hengshan Tianfengling is 2016 meters, just a little lower than Huashan at 2200 meters. However, after reaching the top, I didn't feel like I was looking down on all the other mountains, because there were earthen mountains of similar heights all around. The stone mountains in Huashan and Huangshan are not as unique and eye-catching.



As expected, there is a stone tablet with the altitude of Hengshan Mountain on the top of the mountain. I didn't line up with the tourists on the top of the mountain to take pictures with the stone tablet. Now I think about it, it's a pity, after all, it is the second mountain I have climbed.



My friend was still waiting for me on the mountainside. After reaching the top, we hurried down the mountain. In fact, Hengshan is a forest park. Most of the roads are in good condition, flat, wide, and full of greenery. It took 20 minutes to get to the bus station on the mountainside, and then squeezed into the shuttle bus with the vast sea of people, went back to Hengshan Square, and took the shuttle bus to the Hanging Temple.

Hengshan Mountain is mainly composed of two opposite peaks, Tianfengling and Cuiping Mountain. Generally speaking, climbing Hengshan Mountain refers to Tianfengling. There are three ways to climb the mountain: one is to take a cable car directly to Kuixing Pavilion, which is a few hundred meters away from the top of the mountain; the second is to take the scenic shuttle bus to Zhenwu Temple halfway up the mountain, and then hike up the mountain, where you can see many ancient buildings from the Ming and Qing dynasties; the third is to hike the whole way, and the time depends on personal physical strength. I personally recommend taking the shuttle bus for round trip. On the one hand, the price is relatively affordable, a total of 26 yuan for round trip; in addition, the climbing difficulty is not great, and three hours is enough.

One of the Three Mountains and Five Peaks, the scenery is so-so. If you are just here to see Hengshan, it is not recommended. If you visit the Hanging Temple and then go to Hengshan, it is still okay. I give Hengshan Scenic Area three stars.

Hengshan Mountain, also known as "Taiheng Mountain", is known as the Northern Mountain. It is one of the Five Mountains together with Mount Tai in the East, Mount Hua in the West, Mount Heng in the South, and Mount Song in the Center.



The book says: "It is majestic and far from the northern frontier, and it is surrounded by wilderness." Hengshan is located on the northern frontier plateau. The weather is mostly clear on sunny days, with few clouds and mist. When you climb up and look far away or look down, you can feel the majestic and lofty feeling. The ancients praised Hengshan for "the autumn colors are coming from the dangerous peaks, and the sunset is scattered in the yellow sand for thousands of miles."



Hengshan Scenic Area is located in the south of Hunyuan County, Datong City, Shanxi Province, only 70 kilometers away from Datong City. The entire route is on the highway and the road conditions are very good.



We came to Hengshan from Ying County and also took the entire highway.



In fact, there is another famous mountain nearby - Mount Wutai, but Mount Wutai is too big and it will probably take at least one or two days. Because the schedule is too tight, I will leave it for later.



The Hanging Temple is located at the foot of Hengshan Mountain. Its architecture is very unique, and the whole temple seems to be hanging on a cliff. The ticket is a bit expensive, and we don't believe in Buddhism, so we didn't go in.



We lived in Hunyuan County, which was very close to Hengshan Mountain. We arrived at the scenic spot at 7:30 in the morning. The parking lot of the scenic spot was still empty at that time. When we went up the mountain, we saw that the parking lot was already packed with cars, and there was a long queue of cars on the road outside the scenic spot, which was almost endless. It seems that "getting up early" is very correct.



The cliff of Daziwan in Hengshan is the first cliff at the southern end of the main peak of Hengshan. The two characters "Hengzong" are engraved on the steep cliff. The characters are neat and powerful, and each character is 13 meters high. Therefore, the mountain bay next to it is also called "Daziwan".



There is a cableway up the mountain, but I chose to hike to the main peak of 2016 meters, Tianfengling, which took about 2 hours and was not difficult.



The total time for visiting the scenic area is about four hours.

Mount Heng, the Northern Peak, is a famous scenic spot in northern my country and an important birthplace of Taoism. It is an outstanding representative of China's splendid mountains and rivers. Mount Heng is connected to Yanmen in the west, crosses Hebei in the east, screens the Three Shanxi provinces in the south, and overlooks Yanyun in the north. It stretches 500 miles from east to west and has 108 splendid peaks.

The scenery is beautiful and worth a visit.

The Hengshan Reservoir lies quietly at the foot of Mount Heng, the Northern Peak. It is surrounded by mountains and peaks, creating a magnificent landscape painting!

After visiting the Hanging Temple on the morning of April 5, 2019, we went to visit Tianfengling of Hengshan Mountain.



Starting from Zhenwu Temple, we passed Hufengkou, Guolaoling, Jiutian Palace, Hengzong Hall, Huixianfu, Miaoyou Pavilion, and reached the top of Tianfengling, the main peak. The original plan was to visit the back mountain after reaching the top, but unexpectedly, during the Qingming Festival, the Hengshan management authorities sent personnel to guard the back mountain intersection to prevent forest fires, so we were unable to go.



To be honest, if the Hanging Temple is not counted, the natural scenery of Hengshan is not outstanding among the Five Sacred Mountains. The "Hengshan is like a journey" makes it lack a prominent landmark peak like Mount Tai and Mount Hua. The cultural landscape is not well publicized, and many signs are not clear (this is of course the responsibility of the local tourism authorities). Several famous places such as the "Northern Peak Sleeping Palace" are not accessible due to maintenance and other reasons. However, if you have some understanding of Hengshan's role as a border pass in history and pay attention to various places on the way to the mountain scenery, Hengshan is still worth a visit.

It is one of the four Great Mountains of China. Cars can drive directly to the middle of the mountain. The scenery is generally very famous, but the back mountain is still closed.

Located in Hunyuan County, Datong City, Beiyue is one of the famous Five Sacred Mountains.

Don't go in winter, it's very cold and the wind in Datong is very strong. If you are willing to climb mountains, you can still go there, after all, it is one of the Five Great Mountains.

Although Hengshan is one of the Five Sacred Mountains, its scenery is really average, there are not many temples, and the incense is not very popular. Take the cable car or car directly to the middle of the mountain, and then walk to the top of the mountain. Because the scenery is average, there is no need to stay too long. It takes about 3 hours to go up and down.

It is one of the Five Sacred Mountains with a low sense of presence. The scenery is indeed very ordinary. Without the title of Beiyue, it is just an ordinary mountain. If you don’t collect the Five Sacred Mountains, it is really not worth coming. There are not many Taoist temples left on the mountain, and it gives people a very rural and inferior feeling. There is no trace of history, and the transportation facilities and service facilities are really too poor. This is the worst scenic spot in this trip to Shanxi.

The scenery is so-so and the climb is not difficult. It's nice to go out for some mountain climbing and check in, but don't have too high expectations.

We originally thought that we could go up to the top of Hengshan Mountain. When we saw the road leading to the top of the mountain was marked with "No Visitors Allowed", we actually bought tickets and went in. We regretted it when we came out. It would have been better to go up the north slope directly to the top of the mountain.

It's cold, too cold, cough cough cough. It takes at least 2-3 hours to climb up and down the mountain, and my legs can't lift up...

The scenery was just so-so. I didn't see the legendary Hengshan Sect and Junior Sister Yilin. It was much worse than the other three mountains.

Hengshan Scenic Area is located 10 kilometers south of Hunyuan County, Datong City, Shanxi Province, and 62 kilometers from the urban area of Datong City. Hengshan is a national AAAA-level scenic area. Hengshan Mountain in the north, Mount Tai in the east, Mount Hua in the west, Mount Heng in the south, and Mount Song in the middle are collectively known as the Five Mountains. Tickets for the scenic area: 47 yuan.

Hengshan, one of the Five Sacred Mountains, is a place I have known since elementary school. I have only visited the Five Sacred Mountains during the holidays. I went to Datong to visit the Five Sacred Mountains. Hengshan is not as dangerous as I imagined. It is relatively flat. The scenery of the back mountain is unique and there are fewer tourists. It is recommended to go down the mountain from the back mountain to enjoy different scenery.

I felt the wind from Hengshan Mountain on the cable car that day. The cable car was shaking. I took my kid to walk around the front mountain. Is it worth it? Everyone has different standards. I think it's good.

Time is in a hurry. I came here for a while. I stayed halfway up the mountain. The scenery is beautiful. I will come again next time.

As one of the Three Mountains and Five Peaks, of course you have to visit Hengshan. Many people say that Hengshan is not very good, but I think it is not bad, but the transportation is not very convenient. One small regret of this trip to Hengshan is that I did not visit the Hanging Temple. I will definitely go there next time I come.

I went there with the Green Field team in 2010. Hengshan Mountain is not comparable to Mount Tai and Mount Song in terms of scale, scenery and management. It is just too far behind. It is just an ordinary scenic spot for casual walking. If it is positioned as one of the Five Sacred Mountains, it will definitely be a big disappointment.

Our driver kept recommending us to buy cable car tickets, saying it was fast and convenient. We said we would think about it. When we arrived at the scenic area, he drove us directly to the cable car entrance. But we finally decided to climb the mountain. Let's climb, the key is!! The entrance to the mountain should be a few kilometers above, known as the second parking lot! If you climb directly from the foot of the mountain to the second parking lot, it will take half an hour, and there is no scenery. You can say that you will be exhausted before you see the real Buddha. So if you want to hike to the top of Hengshan, you must ask the driver to take you to the second parking lot!! It only takes ten minutes to drive up.

It is recommended that you communicate your needs with the driver in advance. It took about 2 hours to reach the top. I queued for 20 minutes just to take a photo with the monument.

The scenery is average, the tickets are cheap, and the transportation is not very convenient. If you go there from Datong city, you can sign up for a one-day tour with a small group, which will pick you up and drop you off, and you can move freely in the scenic area.

As one of the Five Great Mountains, it is an inevitable choice for travelers. Taoist temples are all built on steep mountains, creating a desolate atmosphere.

To climb Hengshan, you can take the cable car up the mountain at the mountain gate below, or take a shuttle bus to the parking lot halfway up the mountain (you can drive to the parking lot halfway up the mountain if you drive) and walk up the mountain. According to the previous introduction, the mountain entrance ticket and the entrance ticket to the Taoist temple can be purchased separately, but now it is not possible, and the ticket is a pass. We chose to take the cable car up the mountain, walk down the mountain, and take the shuttle bus halfway up the mountain back to the mountain gate. It feels that Hengshan is just the North Mountain. If it is not for checking in, it is recommended not to come. According to the introduction, the back mountain of Hengshan is more beautiful, but it is a pity that the back mountain is not open.

I went to Hengshan on September 22, 2018. I wanted to go to the Hanging Temple. Due to the renovation of the Hanging Temple, I could only take a photo by the road. Those who can climb Hengshan can go and have a look. After entering the parking lot, some drivers who contracted the scenic area will greet you and introduce the situation. Drivers can drive in about 5 kilometers by themselves. Don't be fooled. The fool said that the fare is 10 yuan per person, one-way, and you only need to pay 10 yuan to the upper parking lot by yourself. Those who are willing to take the upper and lower cable cars can buy tickets directly. It is better for those who drive to drive themselves. Those who don't drive can only take the 10 yuan shuttle bus, and 20 yuan for up and down. Those who don't want to climb can directly buy a 17 yuan ticket to the upper parking lot. There is a free Zhenwu Temple.

The scenery is pretty good, but there are too many scammers, and it's hard to tell the real staff from the fake ones. There are all kinds of traps, and the Taoist temples in the scenic area use all kinds of methods to talk to you, and then trap you, asking for donations, and they must be more than 100, especially the temple at the entrance. Everyone must be careful when traveling in Hengshan.

There is no public transportation from the Hanging Temple. I had to walk about 2.5 kilometers on the mountain road. Fortunately, I met a kind person who took me to the door for 5 yuan. If you don't take the cable car after getting off the bus, you have to take a minibus for 10 yuan. The scenery is actually quite ordinary, and may not be as good as some less famous mountains. However, the large number of temples is a feature of Hengshan, and many of them are cultural landscapes.

Finally, I have to complain again about the Hengshan shuttle transportation and the fact that the local people in Hunyuan are very unfriendly to tourists. This is really a world of difference from the enthusiastic people I met later in the journey.

I will never climb a mountain on a hot day. I won't climb a mountain when it's cool. <(｀^´)> Hum

The cable car costs 90 yuan for a one-way trip and 160 yuan for a round trip. In addition, you need to pay 15 yuan per person for the mountaineering fee.

Maybe because there are so few tourists, the speed of this cable car is really slow. However, the scenery outside is beautiful and you can appreciate it slowly and carefully.

After walking for a while, we had to buy tickets for Hengshan Temple, which cost 30 yuan per person. Even the elderly over 65 had to buy tickets, and this was the only attraction ticket that did not have a discount for the two elderly people on this trip.

Hengshan is also a famous Taoist mountain. If you only look at the scenery, the scenery is not beautiful. It is worth mentioning that the ticket price here should be the lowest among the Five Sacred Mountains, and even much lower than the ticket price of ordinary mountains. If you drive yourself, you can park your car in the parking lot on the mountain, which is equivalent to being halfway up the mountain. If you climb directly up, you won’t be too tired. But if you don’t drive yourself, you can only take the cable car from the bottom of the mountain, and the cable car price is quite expensive.

The mountain is OK. There are parking lots on the mountain for self-driving tours. There are many places. Generally speaking, climbing the mountain is not tiring and it is very cool. The view from the top of the mountain is really beautiful, and the white clouds are very close to you.

We took the cable car up and down, it was quite high but we didn't climb up much, the scenery was beautiful and it was not far from the Hanging Temple.

Drive up to the middle of the mountain and then start climbing. The road is well built and not difficult to climb. However, there are two problems. First, if you don't buy a group temple ticket, you can't get to the top of the mountain at all, which is not right; second, there are too few signboards along the way, and there are no altitude signs, so it's not clear how far away from the top of the mountain you are.

It is recommended to charter a car or join a tour group for the Hanging Temple of Hengshan. If you charter a car, you can first visit the Hanging Temple and then take the cable car to the top of Hengshan. After reaching the top, call the chartered driver from the back of the mountain to wait for you. However, the cost of doing this for a day is very high, so I chose to join a one-day tour group. The Hanging Temple is very close to the Hengshan Cable Car Station, about a 10-minute drive. The Hengshan Cable Car is at the foot of the mountain, and the cable car station is halfway up the mountain. The parking lot where you start on foot is between the cable car station and the foot of the mountain. So the 90 yuan cable car ticket for the upward trip is a bit not worth the price. It takes 1 hour to go back and forth from the Hengshan Temple Group to the top. If the tour guide only gives 40 minutes, please argue with reason. Or don't listen to the explanation of the temple group halfway and go directly to the top to make an appointment with the tour guide where to wait.

In January 2016, I climbed the top of Mount Hengshan, the Northern Mountain. The second stop of the Three Mountains and Five Peaks was pretty good and worth remembering.

The car drove directly to the middle of the mountain. The ticket price was cheap. I thought that the ticket price for such a famous Beiyue was only this low? (No more than 50) It turned out that Hengshan was worth the price. At 10:30, we officially started to climb Hengshan. After 30 minutes, we reached the temple complex, which was the most crowded place. It was full of temples, and I didn't understand it. I hired a tour guide! I walked around for 30 minutes.

The tour guide said that Hengshan is the only religious holy place in China that combines Buddhism, Taoism and Confucianism. There are 108 scenic spots in Hengshan, and the Hanging Temple is just one of them. Indeed, there are temples, Taoist temples, goddess temples, and fairy temples everywhere along the mountain. Just worship the Buddha and show respect.

We went there on the weekend. We walked slowly for more than three hours and successfully reached the top. Climbing the mountain was not difficult, except for the sun! We chose to walk back and forth. Friends who drive themselves are recommended to walk up and down if they have the energy, and take the cable car if they have less energy. Don't choose a one-way cable car. Well, if you take the cable car up and walk down, your car will be parked at the cable car parking lot at the foot of the mountain. When you go down the mountain, you will have to walk an extra hour on the asphalt road to get to this parking lot. If you walk up and get off the cable car, your car will be parked at the parking lot halfway up the mountain. Then you take the cable car to the foot of the mountain, and you have to take a taxi to drive your own car halfway up the mountain... I don't know if you can understand it, hahaha. The walking ticket is 47, half price for students, and it includes tickets to a group of temples. There is nothing on the top of the mountain, just a big stone tablet and a group of tourists queuing up to take pictures with the stone tablet!

I was looking forward to Mount Hengshan, but I was really disappointed when I got there. There weren't too many people climbing the mountain, so the progress was not so rushed! Because of the rain, many temples were damaged and were under repair, so not many people could go in to visit, which was a pity! The scale of each temple is not very large, and almost every one has people waiting! Time is not very tight, so we walked and stopped, and climbed the mountain leisurely. The higher you go on Mount Hengshan, the stronger the wind is, and the things sold are more expensive. The journey up the mountain takes about two hours. The people in Hunyuan County are relatively simple and easy to communicate with. They will answer any questions. The Temple of the God of Wealth has special jelly, 10 yuan a night, and the taste is okay. You can take a rest and taste a bowl when you are tired of climbing.

If you continue hiking up through the tunnel at the distribution center (Hanging Temple ticket office), you will reach the Hengshan ticket office in about 20 minutes (the dust is a bit heavy). If you continue hiking, it will take less than an hour to reach the scenic spot parking lot along the winding mountain road. Hiking is highly recommended! The front mountain has cultural scenery, the back mountain has natural scenery, and the "Blue Sky Gate" wild road is a muddy road. The more outstanding part is the section from Wenshu Pagoda to Hezhi Gate. There is a small section with special geology similar to the "canyon scenery" which is very good.

Generally speaking, "visiting Hengshan" refers to the Tianfengling Scenic Area. We first took the Hengshan Cableway to the upper half of the mountain. Those with good physical strength can climb to the top of Tianfengling, and those who like culture can visit the Hengshan Temple Group. The scenery overlooking the mountain can only be described as "absolutely beautiful"!

The bitter and sweet wells on the halfway point of Hengshan Mountain are two wells, one meter apart, with very different water quality. The clouds of Hengshan Mountain are ever-changing, but we didn't have a good time and didn't see the super beautiful pictures of Hengshan Clouds on the Internet. Hengzong Hall is the biggest attraction in the Hengshan Temple Group. It is built on the cliffs on the mountainside and is very large. The Golden Rooster Stone in front of Hengzong Hall overlooks the Hengshan scenery and has a good view.

The 103 steep steps in front of the Hengzong Hall Mountain Gate are tilted forward by 30 to 40 degrees, and you need to use your hands and feet to climb up. It is recommended that all tourists who come here try it. After climbing the 103 steps, the feeling is very refreshing, confident and proud.

Hengshan is really the one with the worst scenery among all the famous mountains and rivers, but I still climbed it and came down.

As one of the Five Sacred Mountains, Hengshan may not be very attractive to me. However, the scenery is also very beautiful, and there are many Taoist and Buddhist believers on the mountain, so you can check in.

There is a section that is particularly like Zhangjiajie. It is worth the trip. There are several sections of the road in the back mountain with long steep steps, which are not easy to climb, so it is recommended to choose to walk this section of the road when going down the mountain. The back mountain has not been fully developed for many years and is theoretically still closed to the public. There is no running water on the mountain and the toilet facilities are also very poor. I don't know why the Shanxi Provincial Government and the Hunyuan County Government have been doing this for so many years.

After visiting the Five Great Mountains, Hengshan can be said to have the most affordable ticket among the Five Great Mountains. The full ticket is 47 yuan, and there is no charge for any secondary attractions. It is recommended to spend half a day. The Hanging Temple is at the corner of Hengshan. You should visit the Hanging Temple first. The ticket is 120 yuan, which is a bit of a rip-off. From Datong to Hengshan, you have to take a bus from the bus station to Hunyuan County, and then take a taxi to the scenic spot. Everyone should pay attention that the front gate of Hengshan is only 2 kilometers away from the Hanging Temple, and the mountain gate to the half-mountain parking lot is a 5-kilometer mountain road. Climbing starts from buying tickets at the mountain gate and then driving to the half-mountain parking lot. When taking a taxi, you must remember not to be cheated and increased in price. It is recommended to charter a car in Datong for a full day of 350 yuan. It is actually more suitable for more than 3 people than taking a bus by yourself and then taking a taxi, because you are easy to be bullied by black cars. The back mountain of Hengshan is not open to the public. You can exit but not enter because of occasional rockfalls. However, the scenery of the back mountain is much better than that of the front mountain. The front mountain is basically full of temples, and the back mountain is the essence of the mountain. If you charter a car, you can ask the driver to wait at the back door, and then go up the front mountain and out of the back mountain. Most of the back mountain is a dirt road. It had just rained when I went there, so it was quite muddy. You must pay attention to safety. The whole journey is up and down, about 9 kilometers, and it can be done in 5 hours. The way down the mountain is relatively long, so those who are not physically strong should choose carefully, and pay attention to falling rocks. Finally, the ultraviolet rays in Hengshan are slightly stronger than those in other mountains, so be sure to take good sun protection.

It is the least distinctive of the Five Mountains, but if you are at the Hanging Temple, you might as well climb it. It takes about an hour and a half to reach the top from the entrance of the scenic area. I was exhausted and came down at 11 o'clock in the afternoon. The driver delayed the time by carrying passengers in various ways. During this period, the driver also deceived me into buying tickets. Pay special attention. If you don't want to climb to the top of the mountain, don't buy tickets for the temple group. I planned to arrive in Datong at 2 o'clock, but the driver delayed the time by carrying passengers in various ways, resulting in arrival at 4 o'clock in the afternoon, and I didn't have time to go to the Yungang Grottoes... Buying things in Datong is also a scam, for example, buying 6 plums costs 52 yuan...

All in all, the experience is average

The transportation is very inconvenient and there are not many tourists. Although I only visited three of the Five Sacred Mountains, it is not surprising that Hengshan should be the one with the lowest travel experience.

I have to complain about the transportation in Hengshan. There is no direct bus at all. The parking lot is still far away from the scenic area, so you have to charter a car. After buying the ticket to the scenic area, there are two ways to go up the mountain (1. Cable car, to the halfway point of Hengshan, and it takes about half an hour to climb to the top; 2. Self-driving or the shuttle bus in the scenic area, also to the halfway point, and it takes more than 40 minutes to climb to the Taoist temple group after ticket inspection). Personally, if you are young and can walk, you should choose the second way so that you can enjoy the scenery along the way.

Compared with other mountains, Hengshan is probably the easiest to climb. Drive to the middle of the mountain and climb all the way to the Taoist temples. The scenery along the way is actually similar to the others. What is worth recommending is that when you climb to the top, you can look back and see the unique mountain landscape of Shanxi and the Taoist temples built on the wall. It is very spectacular.
