Mount Wutai is located in Wutai County in the northeast of Shanxi Province, with an average altitude of more than 1,000 meters. The highest point, Beitai Yemen Peak, is about 3,058 meters above sea level, and is known as the "Roof of North China". Mount Wutai covers an area of about 300 kilometers. It is named Wutai because the five peaks are like five pillars that rise from the ground and stand tall. The peaks are flat like a platform. Because the climate on the mountain is mostly cold, it is still hot in midsummer, so it is also called Qingliang Mountain. It is a tourist area that integrates natural scenery, historical relics, ancient architectural art, Buddhist culture, folk customs, and summer retreat.
Mount Wutai is a famous Buddhist resort in China and abroad. It is the dojo of Manjusri Bodhisattva. Mount Wutai is the first of the four famous Buddhist mountains because of its long history of temple construction and its grand scale. Therefore, it is called the Golden Wutai. Mount Wutai is also known as the world's five major Buddhist holy places along with Nepal's Lumbini Garden, India's Sarnath, Bodh Gaya, and Kushinagar. It enjoys a high reputation in Japan, India, Sri Lanka, Myanmar, Nepal and other countries. The temples in Mount Wutai were first built during the reign of Emperor Ming of the Han Dynasty. In the Tang Dynasty, due to the prosperity of the "Manjusri belief", there were more than 360 temples. In the Qing Dynasty, with the introduction of Lamaism into Mount Wutai, the Qing and Huang temples with their own characteristics appeared. The area surrounded by the five peaks of Mount Wutai is called the inner peak, and the outer peak is called the outer peak.
Legend has it that Mount Wutai was originally a Taoist site. The Daoist Scriptures called Mount Wutai the Zifu Mountain, where a Zifu Temple was built. The Qingliang Mountain Records states that when the Buddhist Manjusri Bodhisattva first came to China, he lived in the Shipen Cave, and the Shipen was inside the Taoist Xuanzhen Temple, which shows that Mount Wutai was inhabited by Taoists at that time.
Buddhism was introduced to Mount Wutai, and it is generally believed that it began in the Eastern Han Dynasty. According to historical records, in December of the tenth year of Yongping (67 AD), the envoys sent by Emperor Ming of Han to the Western Regions to seek the Dharma came to Luoyang with two Indian monks, Shemoteng and Zhu Falan. In the eleventh year of Yongping, Shemoteng and Zhu Falan came to Mount Wutai (then called Qingliang Mountain) from Luoyang. Since there was a stupa of King Ashoka in the mountain a long time ago, and Mount Wutai was the place where Manjusri Bodhisattva preached and lived, the two wanted to build a temple there, but since Mount Wutai was a Taoist base at the time, the two were quite excluded, so they reported to Emperor Ming of Han. In order to distinguish the superiority and inferiority of Buddhism and Taoism, the Han court asked monks and Taoists to perform, explain, and verify, so the two sides reached an agreement - to burn the scriptures at a certain time to distinguish the true from the false (it is said that the place where the scriptures were burned is now the Scripture Burning Platform in Xi'an). As a result of the burning of the scriptures, all the Taoist scriptures were burned, but the Buddhist scriptures were intact, so the two obtained the right to build a temple.

Mount Wutai has nice scenery and the air is green and cool. I went there on May Day. I was going to take the bus, but there were too many cars and the bus had to follow the flow of traffic. The parking lot was full early, so I had to pay extra to park at the door of the B&B. I parked the car and walked around Wenshu Temple, Wuye Temple, and especially the pine tree at Wuye Temple. It was beautiful. I was a little unhappy with the restaurant I had lunch at. The price was clearly marked, but it changed after eating. The noodles that cost 8 yuan became 15 yuan, and 10 yuan became 25 yuan. This is not the way to make money. If Lu Zhishen were here, he would smash your black shop. There are pictures of this restaurant.
The scenery is very good. We chose to come at the end of March. There is not much snow on the top of the mountain. Tickets have been charged according to the peak season since February 1st. The temples in Wutai Mountain are more or less uphill. Although many temples are in one place, it is easy to miss the entrance without looking at the map, so it is not easy to play. Such a big place is not well planned. Except for the main road, there is dust everywhere. Many private cars are parked on the dirt road. When the car passes by and the wind blows, it is as terrible as a sandstorm. Moreover, after playing for two days, I only saw a chair for tourists to rest at the door of the toilet at the foot of Dailuoding Mountain. When you are tired, you can only sit on the side of the road. I wonder if the leaders of the management office think that tourists don’t need to rest? Or are they too poor to install chairs?
I have always wanted to go, and finally got my wish at the end of 2018.
I came here before the New Year. I could stay in a hotel that costs 400-500 yuan on weekdays for 150 yuan. There were very few people, and I didn't have to squeeze anywhere. Sometimes I couldn't see a single person for half a day. It was so comfortable. Due to the snow, I couldn't go to the five peaks, but the temple complex at the foot of the mountain was enough to visit. The temperature difference in the mountains is large, so keep warm
The roads to the big and small platforms are full of different mountain scenery.
Dachaotai: Wanghai Temple on the east platform, Fayun Temple on the north platform, Longying Temple on the north platform, Wansheng Bathing Pool Temple on the west platform, Yanjiao Temple on the middle platform, Xilai Temple on the west platform, Falei Temple on the west platform, Jixiang Temple, Dahuguo Wenshu Temple, Jingeji Temple on the south platform, and Fomudong Temple on the south platform
Small Chaotai: Puhua Temple, Wuye Temple, Tayuan Temple, Three Pagodas Temple, Xiantong Temple, Luohou Temple, Guangren Temple, Shuxiang Temple
Mount Wutai rose to prominence during the Southern and Northern Dynasties. Emperor Xiaowen of the Northern Wei Dynasty built twelve large temples here, which led to a wave of temple construction in Mount Wutai. There are more than 200 temples in Mount Wutai. Emperor Wu of the Northern Zhou Dynasty took drastic measures to "destroy Buddhism", and Mount Wutai was the first to be hit. The temples were severely damaged. In the Sui Dynasty, Buddhism became popular again. Both emperors believed in Buddhism. Emperor Yang of Sui had a special liking for Mount Wutai and even visited it in person. Mount Wutai reached its peak during the Sui and Tang Dynasties. The emperors of all dynasties praised Mount Wutai and put it on the altar, making it the "capital" of Chinese Buddhism. They either built temples or exempted taxes. In the Tang Dynasty, the number of temples in Mount Wutai increased to 360.
Mount Wutai has witnessed the ups and downs of Han Buddhism. When it was at its peak, Emperor Wuzong of Tang launched a "Buddhist destruction" movement, and the temples in Mount Wutai were hit hard again. During the Song and Yuan dynasties, there were frequent wars and the temples were not restored. Zhu Yuanzhang, the first emperor of the Ming Dynasty, was a Buddhist because he was born a monk, so the temples in Mount Wutai were restored. However, it is well known that Emperor Jiajing of the Ming Dynasty believed in Taoism and rejected Buddhism, so Mount Wutai was relegated to the cold palace. After the founding of the Qing Dynasty, Mount Wutai ushered in its spring again. Emperors Kangxi, Yongzheng, Qianlong and Jiaqing visited Mount Wutai many times. In history, monks from many countries came here to worship from thousands of miles away, including India, Sri Lanka, Nepal, Japan, Korea, Vietnam and other countries, and some even practiced here for life.
Mount Wutai is surrounded by five peaks with a basin in the middle and a town called Taihuai. If you come here to explore the ancient past, you will find it a bit boring most of the time.
Perhaps it is just as Mr. Liang Sicheng said: "Taihuai is the center of Mount Wutai, with many temples and monasteries nearby, and the incense is very strong. The palaces, pagodas and Buddha statues were built diligently. Many of the temples, which are magnificent and used to show off to pilgrims, were rebuilt with donations from dignitaries and wealthy businessmen in modern times. For more than a thousand years, the so-called place of practice for Manjushri Bodhisattva has very few temples built before the Ming and Qing Dynasties." It can be seen that Mr. Liang left a trace of disappointment in Taihuai Town.
Personally, I feel that it is not so bad, because when the incense is popular, it is easy to break the old and build the new. Especially since the Qing Dynasty, many green temples have been changed to yellow temples, and large-scale construction has been carried out to renovate and expand the temples. This is the pace of the times to promote construction. In fact, the audience does not need to be too disappointed. There are also the hanging sculptures of Shuxiang Temple, the white pagoda of Tayuan Temple, the Wuliang Hall and the Bronze Hall of Xiantong Temple, and the distant view of Dailuo Peak. These are enough for you to walk for a full day. You can come with faith or just watch the excitement. There is no repetition and it will never be boring.
Foguang Temple, no tickets required
Visit duration: 1-2 hours
To this day, transportation to Foguang Temple is still quite inconvenient. There is no direct bus, and it is very far from Wutai County and Taihuai Town. You can only charter a car or drive here yourself.
If you come to Mount Wutai, it is worth spending more than half a day at Foguang Temple and Nanchan Temple.
Mount Wutai is also known as Qingliang Mountain. It is called "Mount Wutai" because it is surrounded by five peaks. Mount Wutai is the first of the four famous Buddhist mountains in China. It is said to be the dojo of Manjusri Bodhisattva, so it is called "Golden Wutai". Mount Wutai is the only Buddhist dojo in China where green temples and yellow temples complement each other. Its heyday was in the Tang Dynasty. According to the "Ancient Qingliang Biography", there were as many as 300 temples on the mountain, and there are 47 existing temples.
Mount Wutai is located in Wutai County, Xinzhou, Shanxi Province. It is located at the northern end of the Taihang Mountain Range and consists of a series of mountains and peaks. Five of the peaks (Wanghai Peak in the East, Jinxiu Peak in the South, Cuiyan Peak in the Middle, Guayue Peak in the West, and Yedou Peak in the North) surround the entire area. The tops of the five peaks are flat and wide without trees, like a platform made of earth. Mount Wutai, Putuo Mountain, Jiuhua Mountain, and Emei Mountain are collectively known as the "Four Famous Mountains of Chinese Buddhism". They are also known as the five major Buddhist holy places in the world, along with Lumbini Garden in Nepal, Sarnath in India, Bodh Gaya, and Kushinagar.
Since I went there during the May Day holiday, there were many tourists. I took a bus from Xinzhou Bus Station. Normally, it should be more than 2 hours' drive, but the highway at the south gate was blocked. I drove around from Wutai County and it took more than 6 hours to reach the scenic spot. In addition, the Wutai Mountain Scenic Area Tour Guide Certificate is free of charge, and tour guide friends can also get free tickets without a group. There are several types of accommodation: homestays, inns, and hotels. The prices in the off-season and peak season are very different. Some homestays provide dinner, and the hotel prices will be more expensive. The homestay I stayed in Wutai Mountain costs 100 yuan a night and provides dinner. It is recommended not to drive to Wutai Mountain during the peak tourist season. It is not easy to park, and the traffic is motionless, which will make you collapse. If you eat, the prices of restaurants are not cheap. It is normal for a dish to cost fifty or sixty yuan. Finally, let's talk about the season. It is recommended to go in July and August. The scenery in May is average. Some trees have just sprouted, and it is not very good to take pictures.
It's a very fairy-like place, but it's also very commercialized. It depends on how we deal with it.
Overall, this trip to Mount Wutai was quite good. It is a good place to stay for a few more days. I visited every secluded temple. I would not recommend those crowded and popular ones. After all, from the perspective of landscape alone, I personally cannot appreciate the same old temples. On the contrary, those free temples in deep and quiet places are very charming!
Mount Wutai is a Buddhist holy land and a cool and beautiful place, truly worthy of its name.
The first stop in Shanxi is not Mount Tai or Mount Huang, which are scenic spots. Mount Wutai is not worth climbing. People come here mainly to worship Buddha and visit temples. There is no scenery to climb. Temples are connected to temples. The green temple is next to the yellow temple. From time to time, devout believers bow three times and kneel once.
Wutai Mountain Shangxiangchao Temple is OK, the scenery is average. The supporting facilities in the scenic area are too poor. We were lucky to encounter snow, and the snow was white.
Apart from the high ticket prices and the rip-offs, Mount Wutai is the most majestic and spectacular of the four major Buddhist mountains. It is truly the first, as tall as Mount Emei, with a vast area and a large area of alpine meadows, which is very impressive. There are many temples with high specifications, many of which have royal colors and large buildings. This is near Taihuai Town. If you look at the entire Mount Wutai, there are also heavyweight ancient buildings such as Foguang Temple and Nanchan Temple.
From Taiyuan East Bus Station, you can reach Wutaishan Bus Station by bus in about 3 and a half hours.
On the way, we will pass by the ticket office of Wutai Mountain Scenic Area. Everyone will get off outside the ticket office and buy tickets to enter the scenic area by themselves. The tickets must be kept safe as they will be checked twice.
After buying the ticket, you will enter the scenic area after checking the ticket in the lobby. The bus will wait in the scenic area. After getting on the bus, someone will get on the bus for a second ticket check at the entrance. After the second ticket check, the ticket will only have commemorative value.
The scenic area has taxis, vans, and buses, but the waiting time for the bus is uncertain. The van is a rip-off. Dachaotai can only be reached on foot or by scenic area bus, which costs 350 yuan for five platforms. The charge for a single platform varies by distance.
You need to prepare various professional hiking equipment for the Dachaotai. In addition, it takes two days for most people to complete the hike. You can stay at the top of the five platforms (temple accommodation, with a clear price, mostly free, but generally you will do it at your own will). It is not necessarily available during the peak season, so you still need to carefully consider whether to bring a sleeping bag or tent. The accommodation is a collective dormitory with poor conditions. Basic equipment is not guaranteed. There is no hot shower.
I want to complain about the road signs in Wutai Mountain. There are very few of them. The national 5A, world heritage, and iconic building Dailuo Peak have no road signs! To hike to Xiaochaotai, you have to go through a short dirt road without any road signs. In a 5A scenic area, it really makes people wonder if they have taken the wrong road again. Or is it to preserve the original traces? It would be very strange if the road to Chaotai was all reinforced concrete. In short, this dirt road makes people doubt whether it can lead to Chaotai.
From the road to the platform, you can see a panoramic view of the temple complex in the center of Taihuai Town, Wutai Mountain. The journey was not particularly difficult. The steps were first slow and then steep. It took a total of 40 minutes to hike to the top. Accompanied by the sound of the singing bowl, the heart was as calm as water, as if practicing, step by step, at this moment, there was only the sound of the bowl, only moving forward, it was a rare experience. There were not many pilgrims on the way up the mountain, but on the way down the mountain, I saw many pilgrims, kneeling every three steps and kowtowed. Three more steps, kneeling again. There were also pilgrims who prostrated themselves. There were those who had broken their heads, those who wore forehead protectors, those who wore Tibetan robes, and those who wore yellow robes and green clothes. Although it was the first time I saw pilgrims in person, I didn't feel anything special for some reason. I didn't feel shocked or felt who was more pious, I just passed by them naturally. You can perform your kneeling ceremony, you can worship however you want, whether it's the yellow temple or the green temple, I will walk and feel the road under my feet. No matter whether the three thousand worries can be eliminated by climbing 1080 steps, at least it is good to have a free mind at every moment on the way to Taiwan.
Mount Wutai, a holy Buddhist site, has a North Peak at an altitude of 3,061 meters.
It is really cold in the mountains. There are all kinds of shops selling incense and Buddha statues.
It should be good for Buddhists to go there.
If you want to see the scenery, Mount Wutai is also very spiritual.
It is famous, the temple has a long history, and has a strong Buddhist atmosphere, but the overall management is not good. It feels good to just play around. Here are a few pictures first
Mount Wutai is very large, and it takes at least three days to fully explore it. The scenic area is generally well planned and rather messy. Private cars can also enter, and the scenic area shuttle bus is free.
In late August, I took advantage of the opportunity of a three-day collective rest in Mount Wutai and finally realized my long-cherished wish to visit the twelve temples of Mount Wutai and climb the roof of North China - Yedou Peak of Mount Wutai. I listened to the ethereal Buddhist teachings with my own ears and felt the boundless and profound Buddhist teachings with my pure heart. Everything I saw and heard brought me a thrill of the soul and admiration for Buddhist beings, which also gave rise to the desire to understand and know the Buddhist principles.
One thing that tourists who come to Mount Wutai almost have to do is to burn incense at the Wuye Temple (Wanfo Pavilion), the most popular temple in Mount Wutai.
It is recommended to spend two days in Mount Wutai. You can stay in the scenic area, and there are hotels of various grades to choose from. However, please pay attention to the price when you buy incense. There are many Feng Shui masters on the street, and they will be as sticky as taffy.
You can visit all the main temples in one day. If you want to climb to the top of several Wutai Mountains, it will take about 3 days. In fact, natural scenery is not the strength of Wutai Mountain.
I was full of expectations for this place before coming here. There is a rough outline of the big white tower, and it is more spectacular up close.
After coming here, I feel that this place is indeed very popular. Especially the Wuye Temple, believers from all over the country come to worship. Mount Wutai is really five mountains, so it is really difficult to visit all of them.
Many temples in Mount Wutai are located on such hillsides. Even many temples in Taihuai Town require climbing. It is actually quite tiring to go uphill and downhill. Climbing the steps is really tiring. Once you climb to the top of the mountain where the temple is, you will feel a sense of accomplishment. The buildings inside the temple are generally the same.
Mount Wutai is the dojo of Manjusri Bodhisattva. My natal Bodhisattva is Manjusri Bodhisattva, so coming here really feels like déjà vu, like returning home. Many temples also worship Manjusri Bodhisattva. I think I will stay in Mount Wutai for a few days next time I come to Mount Wutai, get up early to worship Wuye, and go to various temples to worship Bodhisattva sincerely.
If you are just sightseeing in Wutai Mountain and driving by yourself, one to one and a half days is enough. Choose the southern route to enter the mountain and the northern route to exit the mountain. The main scenic spots of Wutai Mountain are all around Taihuai Town, with the White Pagoda as the center. There are parking lots next to each scenic spot, which is convenient for parking. If you drive by yourself, it is recommended to choose accommodation farther away from the core area. First, the price will be much cheaper, second, it will not be easy to get stuck, and third, it will not be so noisy. Listen to the advice of local friends, saying that you really shouldn't go up the mountain on the first and fifteenth day of the lunar month, because it will be crowded. In addition, friends who have the physical strength are still recommended to walk up to Dailuo Peak. Although taking the cable car up the mountain saves physical strength, there is really nothing to see after going up the mountain, and it is another matter to worship Buddha devoutly.
My parents are devout Buddhists, so they came here for pilgrimage. There are so many temples in Wutai Mountain, it is suitable to stay for a while and visit them slowly.
The Grand Pilgrimage is a must. The road on the mountain is extremely dangerous, so private cars are not allowed to go up the mountain. If you take a tour bus, it will cost about ¥350 per person, and you can complete the five pilgrimages in one day. It is said that one Grand Pilgrimage is equivalent to 500 years of practice.
Xiaochaotai is for worshipping Dailuoding. The round-trip ticket price for taking the cable car is ¥85. You can also choose to hike up the mountain. The scenery on the mountain is very nice.
Taihuai Town still has a strong commercial atmosphere and is also quite noisy and chaotic, so if you drive yourself, you might as well live farther away and drive into the town to visit the temples every day. It will be much quieter and more comfortable.
Mount Wutai is a great place for both sightseeing and worship. I will come again in the future.
I traveled with a group in 2006. The number of temples, their large scale, and the many stories and legends they contain are definitely worth visiting many times, whether for religious beliefs, cultural heritage, or sightseeing!
Front: Beautiful mountains and clear water, and grazing on the playground. Do you remember the desktop picture of Windows XP? It looks like this.
Negatives: Various major civil engineering works were carried out to build temples and roads leading to temples. The mountain ridges were split, the vegetation was cut off, and many grass faults could be seen on the road. If you go there a few years later, the mountain will probably have become a mature tourist area, instead of being able to enjoy the most beautiful scenery by hiking like an ascetic.
It is one of the four great Buddhist temples in China and the dojo of Manjusri Bodhisattva. Compared with those crowded temples, I prefer ancient temples like Qingliang Temple, which are sparsely visited and full of Zen.
The Buddhist Bible. When I went there, the weather was very good and I saw the most beautiful blue sky and white clouds.
World Heritage The world's largest Buddhist architectural complex, a place of faith
I bought a one-day tour to Mount Wutai from Taiyuan on China-TravelNote. The tour guide was serious and responsible. There was no compulsory consumption. For those who are not traveling by car, this is a good choice to go to Mount Wutai. There are too many temples in Mount Wutai, and you can only selectively visit a few. It is surrounded by mountains and the breeze is very cool. It feels like a treasure land where spiritual energy gathers.
I stayed there for three days. I once walked from Hongmen Rock to the top of Dongtai Mountain alone, and then walked to Taihuai Town from the top of the mountain! It took more than five hours. I met a devout pilgrim on the road. He walked around Wutai Mountain in 7 or 8 days. It was amazing! Wutai Mountain is a good place for tourists. You can walk around the scenic area from outside the town for free, and the temples at the top of Wutai Mountain can be booked for accommodation and vegetarian meals. It only costs 50 yuan for incense money! There are more than 200 temples in the scenic area, and pilgrims can go to the temples to worship and burn incense. It is worth a visit, but don't go on May Day, just go on National Day!
Different from other famous mountains, there are no towering peaks or strange rocks of various shapes in the main scenic area. Instead, there is a strong religious atmosphere. Temples of all sizes are scattered throughout the scenic area. Burning incense and learning about the development and changes of religions throughout the ages is a journey of spiritual purification.
If you just want to experience the religious culture, one day is enough to visit Mount Wutai.
Mount Wutai is listed as one of the four famous Buddhist mountains in China along with Mount Emei, Mount Putuo and Mount Jiuhua. It is also known as one of the five major Buddhist holy places in the world along with the Lumbini Garden in Nepal, the Sarnath Garden in India, Bodh Gaya and Kushinagar. There are five peaks in the east, west, north and middle of Mount Wutai: Wanghai Peak in the east, Guayue Peak in the west, Jinxiu Peak in the south, Yedou Peak in the north and Cuiyan Peak in the middle. The peaks outside the five peaks are called Taiwai, and the peaks inside the five peaks are called Tainei. Tainei is centered on Taihuai Town. Among the five peaks, the North Peak is the highest, with a peak altitude of 3,061.1 meters, and is known as the "Roof of North China". When you come to Mount Wutai, you usually choose Xiaochaotai, and the route is Wuye Temple-Tayuan Temple-Xiantong Temple-Dailuoding. If you are pious enough, you can choose Dachaotai.
One of the four famous Buddhist mountains. A Buddhist holy place. The place of practice for Manjusri Bodhisattva. There are many temples, a long history and culture, and beautiful natural scenery!
Important things should be said three times: Sun protection is very important! Sun protection is very important! Sun protection is very important! Do what you can and take a car when you are in the mountains, otherwise you may regret it when you come back!
Mount Wutai in winter is dignified and elegant, and it is so peaceful. The white snow slides down Taihuai Street, and the soul becomes even more peaceful. With a stick of incense, one can make a beautiful wish, hoping that everything around him will be safe and beautiful.
Mount Wutai is the first of the four famous Buddhist mountains in China. It is called "Golden Wutai" and is the dojo of Manjusri Bodhisattva. Mount Wutai is not a mountain, but a series of peaks located on the "Roof of North China". The total area of the scenic area is 2,837 square kilometers, and the highest altitude is 3,061 meters. Five peaks (Wanghai Peak of Dongtai, Jinxiu Peak of Nantai, Cuiyan Peak of Zhongtai, Guayue Peak of Xitai, and Yedou Peak of Beitai) surround the entire area. There are no trees on the top and it is flat and wide, like a platform of earth, hence the name. Mount Wutai is the only Buddhist dojo in China where Qing Temple (Han Buddhism) and Huang Temple (Tibetan Buddhism) complement each other. It is said to have 128 temples, 47 of which are still in existence, 39 in the platform and 8 outside the platform. Many of them were built by imperial decree and many emperors came to worship. The famous ones are: Xiantong Temple, Tayuan Temple, Pusading, Nanshan Temple, Dailuoding, Guangji Temple, Wanfo Pavilion, etc.
Many ancient books and historical records related to Mount Wutai record that Mount Wutai was originally a place where people who practiced Taoism lived.
As the Immortal Scripture says: "Mount Wutai is called Purple Palace, and there is always purple air, where immortals live."
The Six Posts says: "The Silver Palace, the Golden Palace, the Purple Palace, and the Azure Capital are all where the gods and immortals live."
The Records of Divine Communication in the Great Tang Dynasty says: "In the southeast of Daizhou, there is Mount Wutai, which was called the home of immortals in ancient times. The mountain is 500 miles square and extremely steep. There are five peaks on the top, and no vegetation grows on them. There are dense pine and cypress trees at the bottom of the valley. The mountain is extremely cold, and the south is called Qingliang Mountain. There is Qingliang Mansion at the foot of the mountain. The sutras clearly say that Manjusri led 500 immortals to live in Qingliang Snow Mountain, which is this place. Therefore, many people who have been seeking the Tao in ancient times have visited this mountain. The traces of the spirits and the caves left behind are clearly visible, and they are not in vain."
The Comprehensive Geography of the Land says: "The mountains are towering and majestic, with winding paths and sacred peaks and streams. They are not suitable for ordinary people to live here. Those who stop here are all those who practice Zen and those who contemplate the mysteries of the past." and so on.
Until the end of the Western Jin Dynasty, Mount Wutai was still regarded as the capital of immortals. For example, the first volume of the Ancient Qingliang Biography by Tang monk Huixiang said: "In the third year of Yongjia in the Jin Dynasty, more than a hundred families from the county of Qin in Yanmen County fled to this mountain to avoid the chaos. They saw that the mountain people drove them away on foot and did not return, so they settled in the rocks and wilds. The scholars who came and went sometimes hoped to find their residence, but they did not know where it was. Therefore, people regarded this mountain as the capital of immortals."
Mount Wutai, a cool holy land and a famous mountain in the Purple Palace, is a place with fragrant exotic flowers, crystal clear rocks, blue cliffs and green caves, and is surrounded by auspicious air. It is visited by sages from afar and nobles in person from time to time, and there are many Taoist legends circulating.
The Wutai Mountain Tour is a must for all hikers to advance. If you like it, you must come. It is quite pleasant to travel through the Wutai Mountains in two days. If you can also visit the Ancient South Observatory and the Meteorological Observatory, it will be even more pleasant to travel through the seven Observatories.
Mount Wutai is one of the "Four Great Buddhist Mountains" in the Buddhist world.
One of the four famous Buddhist mountains in China, they are Mount Wutai, Mount Emei, Mount Putuo and Mount Jiuhua. Legend has it that these four mountains are the places where the four great Bodhisattvas in Buddhism, Manjusri, Samantabhadra, Guanyin and Ksitigarbha, practiced. Therefore, they all have a long religious and cultural origins. At the same time, they are also famous scenic spots in China.
Mount Wutai is a sacred Buddhist place, very sacred, a Buddhist country.
The temperature in Mount Wutai today is 30 degrees, which is still quite hot, but it becomes cool immediately at night, around 18 degrees. It is still a bit cold to wear shorts. The temperature difference in the mountainous area is very large.
My impression of Mount Wutai is that it is not very popular and has a strong commercial atmosphere.
Along the way, I saw an ascetic monk who kept bowing his head. I admired him very much.
Mount Wutai is definitely a real summer resort. The temperature in the city is 20 or 30, but it is less than 10 in the mountains. If you have this kind of belief, it is especially good to come here. If you don't have this kind of belief, it is best to ask a tour guide to help you introduce the history of this place. It is very impressive. There are many animals released on the road, which looks cruel and is also part of commercialization. Don't blame me, I just rely on the mountain to make a living.
Mount Wutai is located in Wutai County, Xinzhou City, Shanxi Province. It is ranked first among the four famous Buddhist mountains in China. Mount Wutai is located in the northeast of Shanxi Province and belongs to Wutai County, Xinzhou City. It is 230 kilometers southwest of the provincial capital Taiyuan City. It is known as one of the "Four Famous Buddhist Mountains in China" along with Mount Putuo in Zhejiang Province, Mount Jiuhua in Anhui Province, and Mount Emei in Sichuan Province. Mount Wutai is also known as one of the five major Buddhist holy sites in the world, along with the Lumbini Garden in Nepal, the Sarnath Garden in India, Bodh Gaya, and Kushinagar. The first person to spread Buddhism in Mount Wutai was the Guangming Dharma Master Sangwang Aoden (the third generation of the Terton Dharma King Shenggen Living Buddha), who personally went to Mount Wutai to spread Buddhism in 710 BC. [1] The Records of Famous Mountains records: "The five peaks of Mount Wutai stand tall and high above the clouds. There are no trees on the top of the mountain, and it is like a platform made of earth, so it is called Wutai."
I stayed in Wutai Mountain for one day and two nights, but even so, I still felt that the time was not enough. There are many Buddhists of various sects here, and you can see Tibetan Buddhists and Mahayana Buddhists devoutly come here to discuss Buddhism. In addition to the Buddhist cultural level, the temple architecture here is also magnificent and worth a visit.
Magpie Bridge Fairy
Looking at the moon hanging over the sea,
Emerald Rock,
Beitai Yedou is the first.
The five peaks tower into the sky.
Qingliang Mountain, the roof of North China.
Loess Plateau,
The vegetation withered,
Look around and see endless goldenness.
A spring snow came unexpectedly,
But it turns golden into plain color.
September 3, 2015 is a special day, the "70th Anniversary of the Victory of the Chinese People's War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War". The country gave all office workers a day off, plus Saturday, totaling three days. My husband and I used these three days to fly from Shenyang to Datong. After getting off the plane, we found Shenzhou Car Rental to pick up the Buick Excelle sedan we had booked online in advance. Both of us are office workers who work from 8 to 5, and we can only travel during holidays, and traveling during this period often costs a lot more money than usual. The same car usually costs 240 yuan a day to rent, but it costs 360 yuan a day when it's our turn. That's not all. The hotel accommodation fee is more than doubled than usual.
The North Peak of Mount Wutai is the highest peak of the entire Mount Wutai, with an altitude of 3,066 meters. The seasons are different on the mountain and below the mountain. It is surprisingly cold on the top of the mountain, and the wind is surprisingly strong. There is also sleet in the strong wind (I wore a skirt with bare legs when I got off the plane). Although I made the most thorough preparations, everything was still beyond my expectations. I didn’t have time to stop, and I didn’t even have the opportunity to take pictures before I hurried down the mountain. The South Peak of Mount Wutai has beautiful scenery, unlike the cold North Peak. All along the way, all kinds of small flowers are all over the mountain, with bright purple, blue, pink and white colors. This is not the season to see mountain flowers, but I can still imagine the charming scene of the blooming spring flowers. . Huaitai Town is located in the center of Mount Wutai, hence the name. Mount Wutai is called a Buddhist holy land because there are hundreds of temples of all sizes here. Yes, you read that right, hundreds of them, dating back to the Tang Dynasty and the Northern Wei Dynasty. The local temples are divided into green temples and yellow temples. Green temples are Han culture Buddhism, and yellow temples are Tibetan Buddhism, namely Lama temples. Yellow temples account for the majority, so there are many Tibetan believers in Huaitai Town. They kowtow as they take a step, and some even kneel down for a long time. Their world is not something we ordinary people can understand, and they are completely immersed in their own world. It is said that Mount Wutai is the dojo of Manjusri Bodhisattva, so most of the statues enshrined in the temples are statues of Manjusri Bodhisattva. In this regard, there is no difference between green and yellow temples. The monks in the temples are also equally pious, ringing bells in the morning and evening, chanting scriptures and reciting Buddha's name. As for whether everyone can be pure in heart, it is unknown. The temples in Wutai Mountain vary in size. The big ones cover an area of more than 100 acres, and the main hall is magnificent. The small temples have only two brick houses, and there is not even a wall, but the temples are still full of incense. I believe that every temple has its value. We visited nearly 20 temples, and the ones we picked were all old temples. The temples were full of old buildings. They are the accumulation of historical culture, and what they show is its deep-rooted religious and cultural heritage. PS: Wutai Mountain is not a mountain. It is composed of five mountains in the southeast, northwest, and central, all of which are about 3,000 meters above sea level. The altitude of Huaitai Town is also 1,400 meters. Be sure to make a good strategy before going, and wear cotton clothes when it is hottest in Beitai in summer. Remember, remember! !
The scenery on the mountain is picturesque. If you go there in summer, the scenery will be more beautiful and the temperature will be suitable. But in winter or when the temperature is below 10 degrees, it is too cold to take the cable car up.
I have been to Mount Wutai four or five times, not for worshipping Buddha or burning incense, but simply because I think the scenery here is very nice
The scenery is beautiful and wonderful, but the public services are so-so
I've been there twice. The first time I was too young to remember much, the second time was in 2016, and it was really popular.
Manjusri Temple. The holy land of Buddha. There is free incense in regular temples.
I went there in winter. It was cold, very cold, and the wind was very strong. The wind was blowing away ice slag, but the scenery was really good. It was beautiful and shocking.
Mount Wutai is known as one of the four sacred mountains of Buddhism. It is the dojo of Manjusri Bodhisattva. The Wuye Temple is also said to be very effective.
As one of the four famous Buddhist mountains (Jiuhua Mountain, Emei Mountain, Putuo Mountain, and Wutai Mountain), it is mainly popular for paying homage to Manjusri Bodhisattva. Being in the mountains, thousands of Buddhist believers go there to burn incense with good intentions, which makes one feel calm and awe-inspiring about the great compassion of the Buddha.

This time, the small pilgrimage to Mount Wutai gave us a good feeling and the weather was also good.
Mount Wutai Dachaotai, a classic hiking route! Don't hesitate, don't delay, don't wait for the future... don't wait for a chance... Without the chance, you can't set foot on the land of Mount Wutai! Go deep into the mountains and forests, walk through the ancient roads, watch the clouds roll in the faint sandalwood fragrance; calm your restless heart in the long morning bells and evening drums!
It depends on how you go to Mount Wutai. If you are on a one-day tour with a group like me, there is basically no need to go. There will be many ways to coax you to spend money to burn incense. There are many temples on the mountain, but the ones you can visit in time are generally new ones that have been renovated. But it is said that the scenery at the top of Mount Wutai is good. If you have enough time to climb the mountain and worship the high Buddha, it should be good.
When I went there, the road was being repaired, and the merchants on Mount Wutai were very deceptive. One night's accommodation cost more than 600 yuan, and it was the off-season. I bargained for one-third of the price with him, and he still let me stay. If you don't believe this, I suggest you don't go there, because there are no fun things and good views. You can consider going to Mianshan in Jiexiu, Shanxi.
On the second day of the seventh lunar month in 2015, I visited Mount Wutai for the first time.
I had heard a lot about Mount Wutai and read a lot of posts from fellow travelers. I went there with high hopes, but ended up being completely disappointed.
The reasons are: First, there is excessive commercial development and the smell of money is too strong; second, the infrastructure is too poor, the roads are crowded, and the hotel conditions are poor; third, there are too many tourists and it is too noisy.
Personally, I think that if you are an ordinary tourist or pilgrim, it is enough to go there once in your lifetime.

The mountains are all at their peaks, and the view is cool and vast. The mountains are really dangerous when they enter Yanmen Pass, and the Buddhist kingdom of Ksitigarbha is Chang'an.
When the rain comes, the sound of the deep valley comes naturally, and when the clouds cross the distant stream, they form a group. When the flowers fall, the Buddhist bells on the Sutra Platform are silent, and the fragrance of the cassock is like the green clouds.
Located in Wutai County, Xinzhou City, Shanxi Province, it is ranked first among the four famous Buddhist mountains in China.
The beautiful Mount Wutai is really amazing! I was lucky enough to encounter sunny days, rainy days, and sunny days after rain, and I saw different scenery. Walking on the ridge is not very tiring, it is really refreshing. I strongly recommend going to Mount Wutai to relax after work!
The weather in Wutai Mountain was very good during those days. It rained a little at night almost every day, and it cleared up early the next morning. The air was very good and suitable for hiking. After coming down from Wuye Temple, I went to Xiaochaotai. Along the way, there were people who worshipped Buddha. They were pious. They bowed their heads every three steps and bowed every five steps. I felt admiration in my heart. It took nearly an hour to climb to the top of Xiaochaotai. The sky was blue and the clouds were white. Beautiful... Enjoy it slowly
From Yingxian to Mount Wutai, the road was icy due to snow. The bus to Mount Wutai stopped running, so I spent 400 yuan to charter a Wuling minivan to go up the mountain. The advantages of traveling alone.
Mount Wutai, as the first of the famous Buddhist mountains, is huge in scale and has countless temples of various shapes and sizes. It has left behind a large number of Buddhist cultural treasures for future generations, which are worthy of admiration.
I like it very much. Mount Wutai is also my hometown. It is worthy of being one of the four famous mountains. Suddenly, it reminds me of a sentence: "I will climb to the top of the mountain and look down on all the other mountains."
Mount Wutai, the first sacred place of Buddhism in China, is located in Wutai County, Shanxi Province, with a radius of more than 500 miles and an altitude of 3,000 meters. It is surrounded by five peaks, which are high and flat and wide on the top, like a platform made of earth, hence the name Wutai.
Mount Wutai is the only Buddhist temple in China where green temples (the residences of lamas) and yellow temples (the residences of monks) complement each other, so the Han, Mongolian and Tibetan peoples live in harmony here. Mount Wutai is said to have 128 temples, of which 47 are still in existence, 39 inside the mountain and 8 outside. Many of them were built by imperial decree and emperors of many dynasties came to worship. The famous ones include: Xiantong Temple, Tayuan Temple, Pusading, Nanshan Temple, Dailuoding, Guangji Temple, Wanfo Pavilion, etc.
It was officially included in the World Heritage List at the 33rd World Heritage Conference held in Seville, Spain on June 26, 2009.

The temple of Manjusri Bodhisattva has great cultural and natural scenery. Whether you believe in Buddhism or not, it is very worth visiting! Last year, I went to Huaitai Town to burn incense and make a wish. This year, I plan to go to Chaotai.
The entire Wutai Mountain Scenic Area has various temples of various sizes, and it is said that there are more than 100 of them. It is a veritable Buddhist holy place. It is one of the four famous mountains of Chinese Buddhism: Wutai Mountain ~ Manjusri Bodhisattva Dojo, Putuo Mountain ~ Guanyin Bodhisattva Dojo, Emei Mountain ~ Samantabhadra Bodhisattva Dojo, Jiuhua Mountain ~ Ksitigarbha Bodhisattva Dojo. It is also one of the five major Buddhist holy places in the world. It has an important position in the Buddhist community!
