Mount Wutai - Dailuoding

I asked how to get to Dailuo Peak, and was told that you can take the cable car to Dailuo Peak after crossing the bridge, and walk back a little to reach Dailuo Peak on Dazhi Road. In order to save time, I decided to take the cable car to Dailuo Peak. When I passed by the bridge, it looked familiar, and I suddenly realized that this was the bridge I had just crossed, so I turned around. It turns out that the first thing you can get to Dailuo Peak after getting off the red bus is Dailuo Peak.

I arrived at the cable car ticket office at 7:14. The cable car is open from 7:00 to 19:00. I arrived just in time and bought a round-trip ticket and walked.

At 7:17, we started to take the cable car to Dailuo Peak. Maybe it was too early, so there were not many tourists taking the cable car. In fact, I was wrong. Most of the tourists went to Dazhi Road. If I hadn't just climbed Hengshan the day before and had to rush down the mountain today, I would also like to climb Dazhi Road.

After a while, the tourists who had climbed Dazhi Road early in the morning came down from the mountain by cable car. They knew it was cold on the mountain, so they all wore knee pads. I thought they were really foresighted. Suddenly, an idea came to my mind. I wondered if they had bumped their heads against the mountain step by step, and wore knee pads because they were afraid that their knees could not withstand the pain. Later, my guess was confirmed to be correct.

Finally arrived at Dailuoding at 7:34.

Don’t enter the mountain gate first, but pass by the "Big Snail Peak" archway. There is a white marble viewing pavilion in the southwest corner outside the mountain gate. Standing next to the viewing pavilion and looking into the distance, you can see the entire Taihuai Town.

It feels so beautiful to me. The scenery at this moment makes the trip to Mount Wutai worthwhile.

Just as I was about to enter the mountain gate, I was stopped by two monks and asked to buy a ticket. It turned out that there was a small ticket office next to it, but I didn't notice it.

The main entrance to the Tianwang Hall at Dailuoding is not open to the public. One must enter and exit Dailuoding through the small door on the right side of the Tianwang Hall.

Looking back at the "Da Luoding" archway, on the back is Dailuoding, another name called "Qingfengding".

Go through the small door into the front yard of Dailuoding. On the back of the Heavenly King Hall in the front yard hangs a plaque with the words "Three Continents Response". Inside the Heavenly King Hall, there is a statue of Maitreya Buddha on the front, the Four Heavenly Kings on both sides, and a statue of Weituo Bodhisattva on the back.

The Bodhisattva Weituo at Dailuoding is carrying the pestle to subdue demons on his shoulders, which means that Dailuoding can provide free food and accommodation for three days to the wandering monks.

There are two options to climb to Dailuoding: one is to take the cable car, and the other is to walk up along Dazhi Road.

The original plan was to walk up to Dailuoding, but as the weather was cloudy, we decided to take the cable car up and down, which turned out to be the right decision.

After the cable car reaches the top, there is still a short walk to go. During this short walk, we saw several devout pilgrims, bowing with each step. If we hike up the mountain, we may see more such pilgrims.

Dailuoding, also known as Daluoding, is a very popular temple. There is free incense on both sides of the incense burner.

The five Manjusris have different expressions, dazzling golden light, and solemn and peaceful facial expressions.

Climb up to the Dailuoding Peak to worship at the Five-Directions Manjusri Hall, also known as the "Small Chaotai". According to legend, in order to facilitate the emperor's worship, the abbot in the past invited down a statue of Manjusri from each of the five platforms around Mount Wutai and placed it on the Dailuoding Peak. In this way, when the emperor worshipped Dailuoding, it was equivalent to worshipping the Five-Directions Manjusri. Therefore, friends who do not have time to worship at the five platforms can also worship at Dailuoding, also known as the Small Chaotai.

So people often say: "If you haven't climbed Dailuo Peak, you are not considered a visitor."

Dailuoding is a small peak extending from the top of the East Peak of Mount Wutai, with a vertical height of only 400 meters. However, standing in the Qingshui River Valley and looking up, the Dailuoding Ancient Temple, which is located high up and has the same name as the peak, is still dangerous enough. The ancient temple is a unique and well-known ancient temple in Mount Wutai with a long history. In history, it was named Qingfengding, Foding Temple, Daluoding, and Dailuoding. It is recommended that you must visit Dailuoding when you go to Mount Wutai.

A holy place for Buddhism, a must-visit place for believers in this field! There are many temples of all sizes, and there are endless legends and stories.

I walked down the cable car, and there are 1080 steps. I definitely can't climb them by myself. I saw many devout believers who bowed every three steps along the way. The scenery on the top of the mountain is very good, but the wind is super strong, so you have to be well armed. There are villagers selling pine nuts on the road, everyone should not buy them. The ones we tasted were good on the surface, and when we bought them, they were all bad. It's true that nine out of ten were bad! Aren't you afraid of retribution for doing bad things in front of the Bodhisattva? Mount Wutai is such a big place, and along the way I only saw a chair for tourists to rest at the door of the toilet at the foot of Dailuoding Mountain. At other times, I had to sit on the roadside when I was tired. I wonder if the management staff didn't expect tourists to need to rest? Or are they so poor that they don't even have the money to install chairs.

From Dailuoding, you can enjoy the Wutai Mountains. It is not high or steep, and has no special features. It should be more beautiful in summer, but the attraction of Wutai Mountain is its Buddhist culture and profound historical heritage. It is not a mountain, not a summer resort, and it is far from a quiet place.

Dailuoding, also known as Daluoding, is the perfect place for the Xiaochaotai Road. It looks very old.

The so-called small worship platform refers to the five statues of Manjusri Bodhisattva on the top of Dailuo Mountain. The five Buddha statues on the top of Dailuo Mountain are rebuilt based on the statues of Manjusri Bodhisattva enshrined on the five peaks of Mount Wutai. For the convenience of tourists, they can worship the five Manjusri Bodhisattvas at the same time, which is also a perfect merit.

To reach Dailuo Peak, you need to climb the 1,008-step Dazhihui Road. In order to save energy, we chose the round-trip cable car, which costs 85 yuan per person. There is no discount for people over 70 years old. After getting off the cable car, you need to walk a short distance on the mountain road to reach Dailuo Peak.

Hiking in the rain on the Dazhi Road with 1,080 steps is a unique experience.

On this road, you can often see devout Buddhist laymen crawling on their backs and kneeling down to climb the 1,080 steps. The persistence and faith of the believers who kneel down in the rain far outweigh the suffering they endure physically, and only the unremitting pursuit of faith can make them indestructible.

It is easier to go up by the road, but it is easier to go down by the 1080 steps. It is commonly known as Xiaochaotai. You must come here after visiting the five platforms.

Standing in the Qingshui River Valley and looking up, the Dailuoding Ancient Temple, which shares the same name as the mountain, is located high up. It is equivalent to a skyscraper with more than 130 floors. It is also very dangerous. It is not easy to climb to the top. Therefore, before climbing, it is necessary to choose one of the three routes according to your own conditions. If you want to walk, there is a new road on the right and an ancient road on the left. The new road was built in 1991. It is 108 meters long and 2.2 meters wide. It is paved with Wutai Mountain bluestone. There are 1,080 steps in total. It is named "Dazhi Road".

On this road, you can often see devout Buddhists bowing their heads with every step. Since my husband and I were in a hurry and had to take a bus back to Beijing at 13:00 in the afternoon, we took the cable car up and down this time, which cost 75 yuan per person for a round trip. After reaching the top, there was a fee to enter the temple, 10 yuan per person, and I went in to worship. There is a pine and a cypress under the steps of the temple, both of which are about ten feet thick. The pine and cypress are tall and upright, without any bends, and look like halberds pointing to the blue sky. These two ancient pines have witnessed the rise and fall of the history of Dailuoding. The buildings in the temple have been repaired in all dynasties, especially in recent years. The temple was first built during the Chenghua period of the Ming Dynasty. There is also a large spiral stele in the temple made by the emperor in the 15th year of Emperor Qianlong's reign (1750). The five statues of Manjusri Bodhisattva on the five terraces are concentrated together on the Dailuoding. Coming here is equivalent to going to the five terraces, and you can worship five Manjusri Bodhisattvas at once, so it is called "Xiaochaotai".

Decided to take the cable car up the mountain faster, and then walk down the mountain slowly. The one-way cable car up the mountain is 50, and the round trip is 100. Haha, I later found out that it would be 80 to buy a one-way trip down the mountain at the top of the mountain. It was cold, and the cable car was even colder. In fact, the top of the big snail is not high. You can walk if you are not in a hurry, but there is no scenery to speak of. The ticket to the big snail is 8 yuan, so you can imagine that the top of the mountain is not big. Come with the customs, a pillar of fragrance, my heart remains the same. I stayed on the top of the mountain for a while, where I can see most of Taihuai Town, Wuye Temple, Xiantong Temple, Shuxiang Temple, and Bodhisattva Peak. These are all super popular attractions, because it is said that making wishes in these temples is very effective. The big white pagoda in the middle is the Tayuan Temple, the landmark building of Wutai Mountain. There is a mountain in the distance where you can vaguely see a temple on the top. According to the direction, it should be Zhongtai Mountain.

There are many steps that require some physical strength, but the view from the top is spectacular.

Wuye Temple, Tayuan Temple and Xiantong Temple are all located in the central area of Taihuai Town, Mount Wutai. You can visit them together. Together with Dailuoding, this is a must-see itinerary for a one-day pilgrimage to Mount Wutai, also known as the Small Pier. When you come to Mount Wutai, you still have to pay homage to Dailuoding.

Dailuoding is located on the top of the mountain east of Taihuai Town in the center of Wutai Mountain. There are 1,080 steps from the foot of the mountain to the top. Thinking that we had accomplished the mission by reaching the summit, we actually sat down to eat and drink, and even helped others take photos.

To be honest, even in the Golden World of Wutai Mountain, the first holy place of Buddhism, after seeing all kinds of beautiful temples for a day, it was really aesthetic fatigue for us non-believers. But when I bought the ticket, I realized that I had to enter this "Wufang Manjusri Hall" because we were here for the Xiaochaotai!

I always climb Dailuo Peak, which I have to climb every time I come. Although I don’t bow every three or five steps, I still insist on going up every time. There is a saying that climbing Dailuo Peak is equivalent to visiting all five platforms.

The temple on the top of Dailuo Peak enshrines five Manjusri Bodhisattvas, representing the Five Terraces, so worshipping here is equivalent to worshipping on five terraces. The temple requires an additional ticket of 8 yuan per person, and it is definitely worth entering. The ancient trees are towering, the world is cool, the stone tablet with the inscription of Emperor Qianlong, and the stone tower depicts the story of the Buddha.

I think the significance of Dailuoding is to test the sincerity of believers, because there are more than 1,000 steps here. Without perseverance, you really can't climb up. Of course, you can also choose to take a cable car. This experience is also good, because the cable car is completely hollow, with only one stool. It is completely hollow, and it is indeed a bit scary. In addition, you can also choose to ride a horse up and down the mountain. I asked about it, and it was also 50 yuan, which is about the same price as the cable car. It's just that I bought a round-trip cable car at that time, so I didn't ride a horse up. You can consider it.

It is not easy to climb more than a thousand steps, especially the steep slope of the steps. You can overlook the panoramic view of the Wutai Mountain temple complex when you climb up, so the scenery is still good. And as a small pilgrimage platform, it is also a must-climb pilgrimage attraction~

You can climb the stairs or take the cable car to the top of the small terrace of Mount Wutai. From the top of the small terrace, you can see the whole scenery of Huaitai Town, which is very charming.

It's worth a visit. The scenery is beautiful. Everyone is very pious. It can exercise your will. I will go again if I have the chance.

The statue of Manjushri Bodhisattva from the temple on the top of Wutai Mountain is enshrined here, giving people who are unable to visit all the mountains in Wutai an opportunity to worship them all at once. This is called the "Small Chaotai", while visiting all the mountains in Wutai is called the "Big Chaotai".

I personally recommend taking the cable car up to Dailuoding and riding a horse down the mountain. The cable car costs 50 for a one-way trip and 85 for a round trip. This is the price during the peak season. Horseback riding costs 50 per person, and you can bargain with the horseman.

Without a strong physique and ample time, it is impossible to complete the Big Worship Platform. Therefore, climbing Dailuo Peak can also fulfill the wish of worshipping the platform. The introduction of Dailuo Peak says that the Small Worship Platform was a method thought up by the abbot at that time to fulfill Emperor Qianlong's wish of worshipping the platform. Emperor Qianlong was very happy to fulfill his wish, and he wrote a poem, which was engraved on the back of a stone tablet in the Dailuo Peak Temple.

Dailuoding is a must-visit place for Xiaochaotai. Emperor Qianlong concentrated the Five Manjusris at Dailuoding to save people the trouble of traveling to the five peaks. The five peaks are called Dachaotai, and Dailuoding is called Xiaochaotai.

There is a Buddha statue guarding Wutai Mountain, called Xiaochaotai, which is a temple that believers must visit.

Xiaochaotai is also the commanding height in Taihuai Town, overlooking the temple complex in Taihuai Town. I feel that it is a must-go when you come to Wutai. It is best to choose to climb the mountain along Dazhi Road. If you are physically exhausted, you can choose to ride a horse or take a cable car up the mountain. Climbing here will cause slight altitude sickness and feel weak.

Dailuoding is a must-visit temple for Buddhist disciples, pilgrims, lay Buddhists and tourists who go to Wudai Mountain to worship Buddha. Dailuoding enshrines the Five Manjushri Bodhisattvas of Mount Wutai and the five peaks. Worshiping Buddha at Dailuoding is equivalent to worshiping Buddha at all five peaks.
