Pingyao Ancient City

A famous historical and cultural city with nearly 3,000 years of history, and one of the four best-preserved ancient cities in my country.
As the financial center of China in the late Qing Dynasty, the culture of Shanxi merchants can be felt everywhere in the ancient city.
The streets of the ancient city are in the shape of "earth". You can overlook the whole picture of the ancient city by climbing up the Pingyao ancient city wall.
At Rishengchang Bank, you can ask the old shopkeeper in a long gown and a jacket to write you a bill of exchange using the earliest form of bill of exchange.

Pingyao Ancient City, ticket price is 125 yuan/person. You don't need a ticket to enter the ancient city, but you need tickets to enter more than 20 scenic spots. The ticket is valid for 3 days, but you can only enter each scenic spot once. You can ask for a tour guide directly at the ticket office, or you can ask for explanations at several important scenic spots (about 10 yuan per time).

There are about 20 scenic spots in Pingyao Ancient City, which are relatively concentrated. If time is limited, you can choose to focus on visiting the Escort Agency, Yamen, Rishengchang Bank, Xietongqing Bank, City God Temple and the ancient city wall. All places that require ticket inspection close at about 5 o'clock (please consult the staff at the ticket inspection office for the specific time). Be sure to visit a few key places first! ! !

Ming and Qing Street is the main street in the ancient city. On both sides are various shops that can be seen in every ancient city. Commercialization has become very serious, and it is also the place with the largest flow of people. You must feel the crowds of people on May Day.

By Not hungry after eating |

There are many merchants selling the same things as outside, still those hot and sour squid noodles, which are really boring to look at. It is a place with too much commercialization. The descendants of Shanxi merchants use their shrewd minds to run this ancient city, which makes this ancient city covered with a serious commercial coat. The things are expensive and the quality is poor. I saw someone say that the vinegar sold by the descendants of Shanxi merchants is actually fake, and the media reported it. I didn't verify it and I don't know, because I don't buy vinegar here at all and carry it back. I just listened and watched. For three or four hours, we didn't go into the store, and didn't buy anything except a small piece of beef. We just found a store to have lunch and felt like we were ripped off.

Pingyao Ancient City is of great cultural significance

If possible, you can ask the tour guide to explain each scenic spot.

However, the city is full of similar restaurants, so I am confused about this one.

There are also many inns, all of which are very good.

There are also several cultural and creative shops that are very good.

The Ming and Qing streets in the city are still very lively.

Buy a combined ticket at the North Gate Ticket Office for 130 yuan

I highly recommend watching the Pingyao sitcom. You can ask the inn owner to help you buy tickets. It's more affordable than online. Watching this show makes the trip worthwhile.

Pingyao County outside the ancient city is also very lively

You can also go out for a walk

Take a bus to Pingyao Station, which is very close to the north gate of the ancient city.

To get to Pingyao Ancient City Station, you need to take bus No. 108 North Line from the North Gate, and bus No. 108 South Line from the South Gate.

You can also rent bicycles or electric cars in the ancient city.

If you have enough energy, you can just play for a day and a night.

Finally, I strongly recommend See Pingyao Again ~ experiential interactive viewing ~ super awesome

African music, the rhythm of the music of the World Cup in South Africa has left a deep impression on the whole world. Music is not only a song and dance, but also a way of life.

Among the many musical instruments in Africa, percussion instruments are the most widely used, especially drums, which are called "the soul of African music."

In the ancient city of Pingyao, this hand drum shop stands out from the crowd, adding a touch of art to the commercialized ancient city. There are not many people in the shop, and the owner is content and happy, watching his children running around in the shop, which is warm and peaceful.

During the Spring Festival, all cars in the ancient city were banned and people could only enter on foot, so I booked an inn in the ancient city in advance. The innkeeper took us to a place where we could park on an electric bike, and then took us into the city to check in at the inn. Regarding the inn, I originally wanted to go to the government office to watch the court session, so I found one close to the government office and Yingxun Gate. It is relatively lively here. If you like quiet, you can stay at the north gate, which is relatively cheap and close to the Ma Family Courtyard, but you have to walk to other attractions.

I really want to say that the ancient city is very big, and parking should be 10 yuan/car. We spent 10 yuan for three hours. There was no tour guide. The service staff of the local scenic spot had a very bad attitude and let me look at it without telling me anything. After finding the entrance, I followed the guide (who was taken care of by others) and strolled all the way. It was really isolated from the world in the ancient city as other friends said. Helicopter 🚁 can see the whole picture of Pingyao Ancient City for 480/person. It feels a little expensive. It is recommended to see the scenery and folk customs along the way. You can stroll into the park and leave the park. If you are tired, you can take a battery car for 10/person. It is still worth seeing 20190210

Pingyao Ancient City is located in Pingyao County in the central part of Shanxi Province. It was built during the reign of King Xuan of the Western Zhou Dynasty (827 BC to 782 BC). Pingyao in Shanxi Province is known as one of the "four best-preserved ancient cities" and is one of the only two ancient cities in China that have successfully applied for World Cultural Heritage status as a whole. Pingyao Ancient City is an outstanding example of a Chinese Han city in the Ming and Qing Dynasties. In the development of Chinese history, it has presented people with an extraordinary complete picture of the development of Han culture, society, economy and religion.

Pingyao was formerly known as Gutao. In the early Ming Dynasty, in order to defend against the disturbance of foreign tribes from the south, the city wall was built. In the third year of Hongwu (1370 AD), it was rebuilt and expanded on the basis of the old wall, and covered with bricks. Later, Jingtai, Zhengde, Jiajing, Longqing and Wanli dynasties carried out ten repairs and renovations, updated the city towers, and added enemy towers. In the 43rd year of Kangxi (1703 AD), the emperor passed through Pingyao on his western tour, so four large city towers were built to make the city more spectacular. The total circumference of Pingyao City Wall is 6163 meters, and the wall is about 12 meters high, which divides the Pingyao County with an area of about 2.25 square kilometers into two worlds with different styles. The streets, shops and city buildings within the city wall retain the Ming and Qing styles, and the area outside the city wall is called the new city. This is a good place where ancient and modern buildings are integrated and complement each other, which makes people think endlessly. In 2009, Pingyao Ancient City was rated as the most complete ancient county in China by the World Records Association. July 13, 2015, Pingyao

This is Pingyao Ancient City during the day, and this is Pingyao Ancient City at night. Passers-by can smell the fragrant and sour vinegar. Why do they do this? My understanding is that this increases the evaporation rate, and the water content in the vinegar becomes less and less. Shaved ice in winter and exposed to the sun in summer, I have seen on TV that vinegar is concentrated in this way. It may also be to attract business. Passers-by will smell it first to see if the vinegar tastes good. Paper cutting is a major feature of Pingyao.

Seriously commercialized, all people are buying things, and black tour guides are everywhere soliciting business. I have been to so many ancient cities, but this is the worst. The management is not strict, and there are electric cars running on the pedestrian street. Don't stay in the ancient city. All the promotional pictures of hotels and inns are false propaganda. It's a farmhouse, and it's very cold, and the air conditioner doesn't work. Especially Guangyu Inn, they only pick you up but not drop you off. It's also very expensive to buy things in the ancient city. Vinegar that costs 6 yuan per catty outside sells for 30 yuan per catty in the ancient city. It's best not to be fooled

Pingyao is known as one of the "four best-preserved ancient cities" and is one of the only two ancient cities in China that have successfully applied for World Cultural Heritage as a whole. Pingyao Ancient City is an outstanding example of a Chinese Han city in the Ming and Qing Dynasties. In the development of Chinese history, it has presented people with an extraordinary complete picture of the development of Han culture, society, economy and religion. Although it is now very commercialized, you can still feel the northern architectural style when walking in the alleys.

I came to Pingyao for the second time in 2015. There were so many people. I went home and compared it with the last time I came in 2002. There were almost no people on the streets, but the appearance of the ancient city has hardly changed, without too much decoration. As one of the four major ancient cities in China: Pingyao, Lijiang, Langzhong and Shexian, I personally feel that Pingyao is relatively well preserved and has a weaker commercial atmosphere. This may be related to the climate in the north. Unlike the ancient cities in the south, you can visit them at any time of the year.

The ticket price is 130 yuan, and the half-price is 65 yuan. People over 60 years old, children under 18 years old (including 18 years old) and students can enjoy half-price, which is more affordable than many classics in China. In particular, the 130 yuan ticket can visit more than 20 scenic spots. Don’t think that they are all small scenic spots in the general ancient town. These 20 scenic spots are separate AAAA and AAAAA-level scenic spots. Yes, these 4A and 5A scenic spot joint tickets are only 130 yuan, and taking the county yamen scenic spot as an example, it takes 1-2 hours to visit once. The most important thing is that this ticket is valid for three days, which means that you don’t need to rush to see all the attractions in one day. You can spend three days to carefully appreciate this 2,300-year-old ancient city! This is different from most scenic spots in China. It is very humane. This is also the inheritance of Shanxi merchants. They know how to make money in the long run. In three days, you will naturally stay, eat, shop, and go to bars in the local area. The discount on tickets can drive consumption in other industries.

The photography of ancient towns is different from landscape photography, which has grand scenes. It is more about using realism, documentary, light and shadow to highlight the details and tell stories to show the style of the ancient town. Each ancient town has its own unique history. First, learn about the history and culture here. The more you know about the ancient town, the more you will know what to shoot.

Try not to use flash indoors, because flash has a strong sense of intervention. Use natural light to shoot, even if it takes a little longer. The light in the ancient town is sometimes diffuse light, so avoid direct light entering the lens directly, otherwise there will be too high contrast, causing overexposure and underexposure. Appropriately increase the sensitivity and large aperture to deal with defocus and out-of-focus caused by hand shaking.

If you catch up with the peak tourist season, the ancient city will be crowded. If you want to leave a wonderful impression, you might as well broaden your horizons and look for some contrasting content. Time is usually short, and you can't take documentary photos carefully and bit by bit like in the city where you live. At this time, it is very important to observe some interesting moments. Once you see a beautiful or interesting moment, you must not let it go.

To understand the scenery of the ancient town, we need to do a good job of scouting out the spots, which places are the key points, which places are the secondary points, which places are good for photographing the sunset, which places are good for photographing the sunrise, which places are suitable for photographing the night scene, etc. We also need to customize the shooting goals in detail and plan the best shooting time and place, so that we can take the photos we want.

Many photographers who come to the ancient town still take pictures when the sun rises in the morning and when the streets are quiet at night, because human activities will interfere with photography at the least at that time, and the essence of the silence of the years in the natural environment can be revealed. You have enough time to experience and find a good angle. No one will interfere with your thinking and vision.

Ancient town photography is not just landscape photography, it is more of a humanistic photography. The combination of ancient architecture and humanities can make the film even more outstanding. You can make full use of the morning and evening when there are fewer tourists to photograph the daily life of the original residents of the ancient town. That is the real essence of the ancient town.

You can also use elements such as doors, windows, passages, etc. of ancient buildings to enhance the sense of space and depth of the picture.

Please explain 120 is still necessary, she can be a guide while walking and telling the history of the old city! There are a lot of ticket houses, escort agencies, and county offices in the ancient city, reflecting the economic prosperity of Shanxi merchants at that time. The Shanxi specialties eaten in the old city for lunch are a bit expensive. It is recommended to eat outside the scenic area. Pingyao beef is still good

In the dim lights, the ancient city of Pingyao, which has been bustling all day, fell into a deep sleep. Strolling casually in the somewhat vicissitudes of the streets, stepping into an ordinary courtyard, and watching the beautiful brick carvings, wood carvings, window paper-cuts and paper-cuts, all of which make you sigh with emotion. History is concentrated here. A beautiful painting has spread the spirit of Shanxi merchants for a long time. When your eyes touch Pingyao, your heart will instantly become open.

Walking in the ancient street, the breath of Ming and Qing dynasties approached along the winding mottled lines on the ancient city wall. As if instructed by some belief, I stared at her and had to expose my sensitive heart. But this place does not belong to me, I am just a hurried passer-by. Just like the glory of the "Rising Sun Chang" bank in the past, it will eventually be buried by the dust of history. Intercepting the wandering emotions, my eyes are intoxicated in a row of houses.

When I first wanted to come to Pingyao, I simply wanted to visit the ancient city and see the architecture. The many beautiful pictures on the Internet allowed me to feel the simplicity and heaviness of the buildings in Pingyao Ancient City from a distance. Its primitiveness deeply attracted me. Now that I have seen Pingyao Ancient City with my own eyes, the many buildings in the ancient city really shocked me.

Unlike ordinary ancient cities, Pingyao Ancient City has six gates. When you enter the gate, the first thing you see is two deep wheel marks. It is said that the escort industry in Pingyao Ancient City was very developed in ancient times, and there were a lot of goods escorted, so over time, there were such deep marks.

Nowadays, when you stroll along the city wall, there is no smoke of war, but only the comfortable life of the locals and the leisurely figures of tourists.

With one ticket to the ancient city, you can visit more than 20 scenic spots, so in addition to the Xietongqing Ticket Office, there are many historical sites worth seeing, such as the county government office, the Confucian Temple, etc.

This time we spent half a day in Pingyao Ancient City, stayed in the ancient city at night, and left in the morning. I felt that the time was a little short. If you ask me how long it is suitable to play in Pingyao Ancient City, I think it takes at least three days. In addition, it is said that "See Pingyao Again" is a performance that is worth watching. We didn't see it due to limited time, so it is recommended to arrange more time in Pingyao.

It must be said that the night in Pingyao Ancient City is also worth experiencing. If you say that Pingyao Ancient City is heavy during the day, then Pingyao Ancient City at night is leisurely. During the day, most of the shops and restaurants selling souvenirs are popular, while at night, all kinds of dessert shops, snack bars, and bars are bustling. Savor the profound historical heritage during the day, and enjoy the leisure time at night.

In Pingyao Ancient City, the prices are reasonable. It feels like you are not in a scenic spot, but in a place where locals live. You can buy three bottles of wild sea buckthorn juice for ten yuan, a set of ancient costumes for children is only fifty yuan, and a foot massage for one hour is only thirty yuan. I thought that this place, which was once rich enough to rival a country, must have extremely high prices, but I didn't expect it to be so affordable. No wonder everyone says that Pingyao Ancient City is a place where you can stay and enjoy life slowly.

It is the off-season now, and the ancient city looks a bit desolate through the thin layer of smog. It is completely different from what is recorded in those travel notes.

During the off-season, when heading south from the north gate, the most common thing you see are inns with signs saying "Rooms Available Today" and these little animals wandering around.

Some attractions only sell package tickets, which is not cost-effective for me. So I gave up all the attractions and just walked around the streets to see the local customs.

Dongda Street is a relatively quiet street in Pingyao, with few tourist attractions and many residential houses. It doesn't look very good.

The most popular antique bar is the most suitable place in this old town. I wonder what these old objects in the shops opposite the bar feel when they stare at the colorful world of feasting and revelry inside every day.

By Traveling photographer |

People who have never been there would think that there are ancient buildings everywhere and it must be full of history; but when I walked into the ancient city, I was shocked by the scene in front of me, which was different from what I imagined.

Before I arrived, I had always heard that Pingyao Ancient City was a "turtle Bagua City" and the entire ancient city was in the shape of a turtle. As soon as I got off the bus, I saw the ancient city wall from afar, which looked peaceful and tranquil. Walking on the heavy city wall, I felt that the blue bricks under my feet had taken on too much. The battlements that used to look out for the enemy were already full of young tourists vying to take pictures.

Coming down from the city wall and slowly walking into the middle of the street, you will find that there are many banks on both sides of the street and many merchants gather there.

After a day of sightseeing, I saw Pingyao's characteristic historical buildings and felt the beauty of its history and culture. At night, you may want to rest in the inn, but I want to tell you that you must go out for a walk and don't ignore the beauty of Pingyao at night. Maybe it's because the pace of life in the north is faster than that in the south, and the night in Pingyao is quiet with a hint of the old city flavor.

At night, walking on the streets with only a few tourists, you can feel the feelings and style of Pingyao Ancient City. You will find that there is a modern bar hidden under the quaint buildings, but it is not like the noisy bars in big cities. Perhaps it is to cater to the trend of modern young people, just hanging modern billboards and slogans. Sitting in this quiet bar with a few friends, tasting a glass of wine, chatting about recent events and feelings, and listening to the stories in the songs of the resident singers is also a different kind of travel memory.

Every brick and stone in Pingyao Ancient City bears the mark of time. They have wandered through thousands of years with their own style. You can listen to the ancient city telling its past, sighing over its past bitterness, sharing its past joy, and being moved by its past luxury.

When traveling during this season, you must pay attention to staying hydrated. The wind in Pingyao is quite strong, so you must also keep warm.

I've been here four times, but each time the experience is different!

The first time I came to Pingyao was for Wang Chaoge’s large-scale situational experience drama “Seeing Pingyao Again”. There are various delicacies in Pingyao Ancient City that cannot be missed.

I am a person who particularly loves eating vinegar, and the best vinegar I have ever tasted is from Shanxi. In addition to vinegar, wine is also very popular. If you like it, buy it. If you don’t like it, it doesn’t matter. Shanxi people are so generous and enthusiastic!

If you stay in Pingyao at night, you must go to see Pingyao's night view, which is really super beautiful. Pingyao's major feature is the kang, which you definitely can't miss.

Accommodation in the ancient city is not expensive. Since you are here, it is worth staying!

Because Pingyao Ancient City is very crowded during holidays, the room rates will fluctuate accordingly. It is best to call the innkeeper in advance.

If you go on weekdays during the off-season, the room rate will be much cheaper, and the cost-effectiveness is very high~

The ancient city area is very large, and contains many small attractions. It can be visited in about a day. You can learn about the history of Shanxi merchants, going west, etc. The ancient city is also gradually commercialized, and various small vendors, bars, and inns have increased like other ancient cities. I still hope that commercialization will not destroy the original culture of the ancient city.

By Devil—— |

Pingyao's commercial streets are actually all the same. The grandiose stores or the slightly literary stores will attract tourists to stop and take pictures.

There is still a lot of ancient flavor hidden in the commercial street. The floors of Pingyao are paved with large stone slabs.

The commercial street was crowded with people and full of extravagance, but to me it was nothing exciting and I just took a quick look.

There are many bars on the streets of Pingyao, where the lights and wine are so bright and colorful that people are intoxicated. In this ancient county town of Pingyao, if you still can't calm down at night, you can definitely drink a lot.

By Yinuo |

The essence of the ancient city includes the old city walls, old alleys, old courtyards and old workshops. The area of the city is very large and it would take a long time to walk around. Fortunately, there are electric cars in the scenic area for 10 yuan per person. It can go through the streets and alleys outside the core area, allowing you to feel the charm of the ancient city.

Of course, the most quintessential parts are the east, west, south, north streets, government offices, banks, pawnshops, temples, city towers, and Confucian Temple within the scenic area. Their exquisiteness is self-evident. By the way, there are also various types of residential houses. You can stay here for a few days, walk slowly, and appreciate them carefully.

I recently saw in the news that Pingyao Ancient City was not demolished because the 500,000 yuan demolition compensation was not enough. I don’t know if it is true or not. If it is true, I would be very grateful. Pingyao Ancient City is really beautiful!

A period of history creates a city, and a city is a period of history. Pingyao Ancient City is such a famous historical city.

The history of Pingyao Ancient City dates back to the reign of King Xuan of the Western Zhou Dynasty, 2,800 years ago. Today, it has become the most complete ancient county town in China and is known as one of the "four best-preserved ancient cities".

The main reason why Pingyao Ancient City is famous is its historical status as the financial center of China in the late Qing Dynasty. The Shanxi merchant culture that we can feel everywhere in the ancient city is a clear proof of this.

Although Pingyao belongs to the Jinzhong area, it is very close to Taiyuan, only 90 kilometers away. If you go there from Taiyuan, you can basically visit all the major attractions in one day. Of course, if you want to better study the history of Pingyao and understand the ancient architecture art, it will take a longer time.

The Pingyao Ancient City Pass is 120 yuan and includes 22 attractions, including the ancient city wall, Rishengchang, Huiwulin, Weitaihou, ancient dwellings, Chamber of Commerce, North China Escort Agency, Qingxu Temple, Weishengchang, Tianjixiang, Xietongqing, China Escort Agency, Tongxinggong Escort Agency, Baichuantong, County Government, City God Temple, Confucian Temple, Former Residence of Lei Lutai, Rare Newspaper Exhibition Hall, Ancient Weapons Museum, Erlang Temple, and Ma Family Courtyard.

Our walking route is: enter from the West Gate (Fengyi Gate), go directly to Rishengchang along West Street, next to which are Rixinzhong and Weitaihou, Huiwulin is opposite Rishengchang; turn to South Street to Weishengchang and Xietongqing, and Shilou is next to Xietongqing. Shilou goes south to Yamen Street and then west to Pingyao County Yamen. The City God Temple is located on Southeast Street, and is symmetrical with the County Yamen on both sides of the central axis; the Confucian Temple is on the south side of the City God Temple. Finally, pass Erlang Temple and go to Pingyao City Wall, and go out of the city from the North Gate (Gongji Gate) to Pingyao Station.

By Can't stay |

Pingyao Ancient City has basically maintained its original historical appearance, and its design and layout reflect the urban planning concepts and distribution of forms during the Ming and Qing Dynasties. The ancient city is composed of a large complex of buildings, including city walls, shops, streets, temples, and houses. The entire city is symmetrically arranged, with the City Tower as the axis and South Street as the axis, forming a feudal ritual pattern with the City God on the left, the government office on the right, the Confucian Temple on the left, the Martial Temple on the right, the Taoist Temple on the east, and the Temple on the west. It covers a total area of 2.25 square kilometers and showcases the evolution of Chinese architectural style and urban planning over the past five centuries. It is known as a living sample for studying ancient Chinese cities, and has rich and unique value in architecture, religion, commerce, folklore, and folk art.

The streets are still rutted by the years, and the quaint courtyards are the legend of the Shanxi merchants "connecting the world". Pingyao County Yamen, one of the oldest county yamen in China, witnessed the clean and honest official culture of Pingyao. It is said that during the more than 100 years when Shanxi merchants were most prosperous in the Qing Dynasty, Pingyao never had a corrupt official. The unique Shanxi merchant civilization gave birth to the clean officialdom of Pingyao.

Walking into Pingyao Ancient City, there are endless streams of tourists. The ancient streets, courtyards, and shops still maintain the traditional layout and style of the Ming Dynasty. If it weren't for the tourists wearing modern clothes, they would mistakenly think they have returned to the Ming and Qing Dynasties. The ancient and leisurely old city in front of you seems to unfold a picture scroll showing the social, economic, and cultural features of ancient times, which makes people return to the depths of history. The voices of hawkers coming and going from the south and the north seem to echo in the long river of history.

The ancient city is free, but there are many small museums that charge admission. Some are quite interesting. But most of them just exhibit some photos. Warm reminder - be sure to go to "Tianyuankui" for a meal, you will come back to thank me.

Pingyao Ancient City, located in Pingyao County, Jinzhong City, Shanxi Province, was built during the reign of King Xuan of Zhou, more than 2,800 years ago. It is known as one of the "four best-preserved ancient cities" and is one of the only two ancient cities in China that have successfully applied for World Cultural Heritage as a whole ancient city (the other is Lijiang Ancient City). The World Heritage Center describes it as follows: Pingyao Ancient City is an outstanding example of an ancient Chinese city in the Ming and Qing Dynasties, and Pingyao Ancient City has preserved all its characteristics.

We live in the ancient city and cannot drive in, so we need to park our car in a parking lot outside the city.

The roads around Pingyao Ancient City are undergoing infrastructure construction, and the roads have been rerouted. One-way streets, motorcycles, and temporary parking are all crowded on the peripheral roads. In addition, Baidu Maps had positioning errors, and we were navigated to a dead-end road, which was definitely a major test of our driving skills.

The hotel guy picked us up outside the city on an electric bike and took us to a nearby parking lot. Then we packed all our luggage, showed our green code, and queued up.

The ancient city is very large, and there are paid electric cars shuttling back and forth. It seems that the price is the same regardless of the distance. If you are tired of walking around the ancient city, you can take a car to the hotel.

After breakfast, we started shopping. Unfortunately, the weather was not good, it was cloudy, but it was more in line with the temperament of the ancient northern city in the Qing Dynasty.

The Pingyao Ancient City Scenic Spots Package costs 122 yuan, which includes various scenic spots in the city. We first went to the city wall tower to overlook the ancient city.

Then we walked straight to the central street of the ancient city, passed the Tingyu Tower, and visited the county government office. We also visited the Escort Bureau Museum and finally the City God Temple.

Pingyao Ancient City has a long history and is well preserved. Of course, many of the attractions are actually reconstructions. But the origins and stories behind them are real. If you have time, you can really check in at each attraction.

Pingyao Ancient City is an ancient city with a history of more than 2,000 years. It is not as commercialized as other ancient cities. The simple Shanxi merchants live a slow-paced life. Seeing Pingyao's large-scale performances again makes us understand the long history of Shanxi better.

Although Pingyao Ancient City was built during the reign of King Xuan of the Western Zhou Dynasty; although it is one of only two ancient cities in China that have been successfully nominated for World Cultural Heritage as a whole; although it is an outstanding example of a Chinese Han city during the Ming and Qing Dynasties; although it was rated by the World Records Association as the most complete ancient county town in China; but all these honors are not as good as the shoulder-to-shoulder flow of people, the bustling noise, and the feeling of wanting to escape that the tour group's check-in at the 5A scenic spot gave me.

With the mentality of "since I'm here and I won't come back again in this lifetime", I still spent an hour in the evening and four hours the next morning to visit several places that interested me.

It should be said that this visit made me agree with a point of view about Pingyao Ancient City, which I set as the title: Pingyao Ancient City, an outstanding example of the Chinese Han nationality in the Ming and Qing Dynasties.

By see the way |

It is said that Pingyao is the most complete ancient city in China, and it is indeed worthy of its reputation. It is not only the city wall, not only the old houses and alleys within the city wall, but also the simple residents.

We stayed in a private inn near the North Gate, not far from Erlang Temple.

Commercial tourism development has brought bustle and noise, but Pingyao seems to still remain calm.

When visiting the ancient city, I prefer to walk slowly in the quiet streets and alleys, enjoying the tranquility and feeling the atmosphere.

Pingyao Ancient City is one of the best-preserved ancient county towns in China. It is an outstanding example of a Chinese Han city in the Ming and Qing dynasties. In the development of Chinese history, it has presented people with an extraordinary complete picture of cultural, social, economic and religious development. It was once the financial center of China in the late Qing Dynasty. Although it is now simple in appearance, it is rich in connotation. Every straight street in the ancient city is permeated with calmness; every mottled blue brick is permeated with simplicity. Its temperament overflows from every urn city, flows out from every old window, seeps from every carving, and is chanted from the talent of every Pingyao sage…You can easily walk into the open city gate, and then get lost in the collision with countless passers-by. At the foot of the city building at night, Lei Lutai should be lonely. For those who have established hegemony, survival and development are of great importance. A strong soul must move forward in loneliness. Fortunately, we have Pingyao, our fortress that will not be conquered, the home of the soul. Please have a drink and eat some Guanyun beef. It is extraordinary and not far away. Its charm is right in front of you...

Pingyao Ancient City is a cultural ancient city with a history of more than 2,700 years. It and Lijiang Dayan Ancient City are the only two ancient cities in my country that have successfully applied for World Cultural Heritage as a whole. Pingyao Ancient City is also known as "China's four best-preserved ancient cities" together with Dayan Ancient City, Langzhong Ancient City and Huizhou Ancient City.

Compared with other ancient cities, it is still relatively authentic. Due to time constraints, I only went up the city wall and visited Rishengchangji and the county government. In fact, Taipingxingguo Temple and Confucian Temple are also worth visiting.

The ticket to Pingyao Ancient City is 130 yuan, and you can visit almost all the attractions in the city. It is valid for three days. A few days ago, the news reported that Qiao's Courtyard was delisted. I think Pingyao Ancient City should be rectified. The planning in the ancient city is very chaotic. Many residential houses are under construction. Those who don't know think that they want to build more houses to get more compensation when they are demolished. Since it is a famous tourist city and a historical and cultural ancient city, shouldn't the construction of residential houses also be appropriately subject to the overall planning, rather than privately built? There are many battery tour buses parked at the city gate. Unlike other scenic spots, they are not uniformly managed, with fixed routes, but like black taxis, the drivers pick up passengers by themselves, call prices at will, and send tourists to their destinations. They can even call for a taxi. The tour buses run rampant on the narrow streets in the city, overtaking at will, and the safety is very poor.

Pingyao Ancient City is located in the central part of Shanxi Province. It was first built during the reign of King Xuan of Zhou and expanded in the third year of Hongwu in the Ming Dynasty (1370). It has a history of more than 2,700 years. It still retains the basic features of the county town during the Ming and Qing Dynasties and is the most complete ancient city in the Han ethnic area of China.

In early February 2018, I went on a spontaneous trip. After I came back from there, I heard that I had caught up with the coldest winter in Pingyao in the past 10 years. Pingyao Ancient City is located in the central part of Shanxi Province. It was first built in the reign of King Xuan of Zhou and expanded in the third year of Hongwu in the Ming Dynasty (1370). It has a history of more than 2,700 years. It still retains the basic features of the county town in the Ming and Qing Dynasties. It is the most complete ancient city in the Han ethnic area of China. Pingyao, Shanxi Province is known as one of the "four best-preserved ancient cities" and is one of the only two ancient cities in China that have successfully applied for World Cultural Heritage with the entire ancient city. Speaking of ancient cities, Pingyao Ancient City should be considered a must-visit place in China. Maybe it was the off-season when I went there, and the ancient city was not so lively. On the contrary, such tranquility just adds a different feeling-tranquility. Pingyao County Yamen, Rishengchang, Confucian Temple... There are really many attractions in the scenic area. Staying at Migu Folk Customs in the ancient city at night is highly recommended. As for food: Pingyao Guanyun beef, Paopao oil cake, Wantuoer, Qin Geda, oat noodle kaoluokao, sesame oil tea, Caojia smoked meat, fried meat... I still drool when I think about it now! Baidu searched and found that there are 3797 quadrangle courtyards in the 2.25 square kilometers of the ancient city. These quadrangle courtyards have clear axes, left-right symmetry, distinct levels, and are majestic outside and beautiful inside. Along the central axis, there are several courtyards, which are divided by short walls and hanging flower gatehouses in the middle, forming a basic layout of "sun" and "eye" shapes with two or three entrances. To be honest, as a Northeasterner, I feel that Pingyao's architectural pattern is not as "bright" as the old houses in the Northeast. Perhaps this is precisely the reflection of Pingyao's glory when "every inch of land is worth a lot of money".

As a world cultural heritage, it still makes people yearn for it, and in fact, the sense of heaviness it carries is indeed incomparable to other ancient towns. In terms of the overall layout of Pingyao Ancient City, including the preserved historical attractions, it is very similar to the Langzhong Ancient City in Sichuan that I have visited before. But why Pingyao Ancient City can be selected as a world cultural heritage? First, I think it is its integrity, especially its well-preserved city walls; second, it witnessed the development of China's economy, society, culture, and religion during the Ming and Qing dynasties, which adds to its charm.

No vehicles from other places are allowed to enter Pingyao Ancient City. All self-driving cars must park in the parking lot outside the city. There are parking lots near several city gates. The overnight fee for a small car is 20 yuan/vehicle. The main tourist attractions and shopping and dining in the city are concentrated in South Street, East Street and West Street centered on the City Tower. Vehicles are prohibited from passing through these roads. In addition, environmentally friendly electric vehicles can be used in other streets and alleys in the city. They stop when you wave and can be taken to any other place in the city. The uniform price is 10 yuan/person/time. No tickets are required to enter Pingyao Ancient City. Tickets are only required to visit the attractions in the ancient city. Tickets are not sold separately for attractions. You must buy a joint ticket, which is 125 yuan/person. You can visit 22 attractions in the city. It is valid for three days, but you cannot go to all attractions again after visiting them once, including the city wall. It does not matter which gate you go to. Once you have been on it, you cannot go on it again.

I went to Pingyao on April 25th. I used the coat I didn't wear when I climbed Huashan Mountain. It was so cold when it rained that I wanted to wear a down jacket. The ticket was 135, which was enough for 3 days. There were many attractions. Accommodation was not expensive during non-holidays. I stayed at Red Lantern Hotel, and the owner was very nice. Pingyao is beautiful at night, with lights everywhere. There are also many places to eat in the ancient city. Now I suddenly want to eat kuoluoluo. It is very suitable for taking parents to visit.

The temperature dropped today, but the cold did not dampen our enthusiasm for traveling. When you come to Pingyao Ancient City, you must see several important attractions, Pingyao County Government, Rishengchang... It is said that Pingyao did not produce famous scholars for many years in ancient times, because being a clerk in a bank could make money, so everyone was proud to be able to work in a bank. (I don't know if it is true, every tour guide said something similar)

By Yan Chou Wenliang |

Objectively speaking, Pingyao Ancient City is quite commercialized. I went there for the title of World Cultural Heritage, but I was very disappointed! The whole ancient city is a snack-selling scenic spot, with small shops everywhere... The scenic spots are separate and not together. Free tickets are provided with a tour guide certificate. If you go, I suggest you watch "See Pingyao Again", which is worth watching. In addition, you should pay attention to avoid battery cars in the scenic area. The speed is very fast, and they are justified in hitting tourists... In addition, there are helicopters above the scenic area. Interested friends can experience it and have a bird's eye view of the panoramic view of Pingyao Ancient City! There is nothing else to say. I just stayed for half a day and left in a hurry.

Pingyao Ancient City, I have always wanted to go there. My husband happened to be on a business trip to Taiyuan, so I took the opportunity to go there. However, I didn't have much fun with my 2-year-old baby. 😄 From Wangjia Courtyard, cross the road and take Jiexiu No. 11 (I didn't pay attention to the interval, but it departed on time). It took about 30 minutes to drive to the terminal station Jiexiu Station (not a high-speed railway station) and less than ten minutes to walk to Jiexiu Railway Station. 🚉 Take the ordinary express train for 20 minutes to Pingyao Station (not a high-speed railway station). Get off and walk for 15+ minutes to Pingyao Ancient City. It feels like a county town, but the ancient city is very complete and worth a visit. Although it is seriously commercialized, the ancient city is very intact, with many folk customs in the city. I didn't see the special performances. I will definitely check in next time I have the opportunity. We also have an ancient city, which I think is very good.

Pingyao Ancient City, one of the ancient cities in China, has an intoxicating slow-paced life. Its drawback is that the transportation is not very convenient and it is rather chaotic to solicit customers outside the city.

There is no charge to enter the ancient city, but there is a fee to visit the scenic spots in the ancient city. The scenic spot pass is 125 yuan, the ticket is valid for 3 days, and each scenic spot can only be entered once.

It is recommended to avoid holidays when visiting the ancient city, otherwise you will only see crowds of people.

I didn't buy a pass for the attractions, I just walked around the ancient city in the morning and evening. Facts have proved that this decision was the right one. During the National Day holiday, the ancient city was really crowded. The attractions obviously couldn't accommodate so many people, and the sightseeing experience can be imagined.

The flow of people in the ancient city during the National Day holiday was really terrifying. At a glance, it was full of people. The flow of people in Taiyuan, Datong and Jiexiu in the previous stations was obviously not too bad. Could it be because it was not the National Day yet those days?

There were so many people that the Pingyao County Court even posted a notice saying that the court performance was suspended.

Great, this is my favorite ancient town besides Xitang. Xitang can be said to be the representative of water town, while Pingyao is definitely the representative of inland ancient town. Backpackers on the streets of the ancient city. There are relatively fewer tourists in winter, but it does not affect the charm of this ancient city at all. We bought a pass for the scenic spots (the pass is valid for three days). We thought it would be best to visit all these attractions. After all, it is a one-time trip, so we must have fun. In addition to exquisite food and drink, the fun must also be exquisite. Unknowingly, it was time to say goodbye. Pingyao Ancient City really did not disappoint us. Although we did not visit all the attractions, the scenery I have seen in my eyes is enough to impress me. It can be so perfect at any time, leaving some unexplored places, waiting for my next unlocking. We are all reluctant to leave here. In just a few days, we experienced a journey like traveling through time and felt the enthusiasm of Pingyao Ancient City. I think that in the near future, when I set foot on this land again, it should bring me another different experience. I look forward to the day when I meet it again. The song will end, Pingyao Ancient City, see you next time.

Pingyao in winter is very lively, even though it is the off-season. The blue bricks and black tiles, the ancient style and charm, are like turning over an old book, each page is a journey through the weight of history. Steaming snacks are scattered all over the alleys, so foodies can come here without worry.

One of the best ancient cities in China, the wealth of the past created a variety of buildings in the ancient city, and the subsequent desolation and poverty objectively played a good role in protection. You can see the glory of Shanxi merchants, and also get a glimpse of the vicissitudes and decline of this place from the Republic of China to the early days of the founding of the People's Republic of China. Accommodation and food in the city are very convenient.

The ticket for the ancient city is very large, with a barcode on it. You can scan the code to enter the scenic spot by yourself. You can only enter each scenic spot once.

There is no way to visit all 22 scenic spots, just walk around and take a look. For those who don't understand, it will really cause visual fatigue if they look at it for a long time.

Postcards bought from the post office are much cheaper than other stores, look good, and can be mailed directly. A postcard from a small private store costs 6 yuan, but only 2 yuan from the post office. Don't go to the so-called impression postcard store.

Leaving Xi'an, I took the G5 Beijing-Kunming Expressway and headed northeast. The city of Xi'an gradually became smaller, and I silently said in my heart: Xi'an, I will come again!

Pingyao Ancient City, as mentioned above, is located in Pingyao County in central Shanxi Province. It is a famous cultural city with a history of more than 2,700 years. Pingyao Ancient City is an outstanding example of a Chinese Han city in the Ming and Qing Dynasties. The streets, shops and market buildings within the city wall retain the style of the Ming and Qing Dynasties; the area outside the city wall is called the New City. I like the big red lanterns hanging in every household in the ancient city. This ancient city does not have too many gorgeous decorations... It is very simple... It is not as exquisite as the ancient towns in the south of the Yangtze River. It has the feeling of an ancient city in the north, it is big, the color is also yellow, and it also has a unique flavor...

Although it didn't surprise me, you are still the best Pingyao...

The food in the ancient city is generally the same as other scenic spots. But I especially recommend Tianyuankui, an old brand, which has group purchases. The taste and quantity of dishes are good. Before I came to Pingyao, I read the guide on the free travel website, which said there was a restaurant called Luyou Restaurant. I came with full confidence, but left disappointed. It was really super unpalatable. I ate a lot of Jiale in the ancient city, and the canned noodles cost 20 yuan. I felt like I was going there without pants. I couldn't even see the noodles, and the noodles were not fresh. There was a smell of a refrigerator. I feel that I am a person who can accept consumption in scenic spots. This is the worst restaurant I have visited in many ancient cities.
