Zhangbi Village is an administrative village in Longfeng Town, Jiexiu City, Shanxi Province. It is also known as Zhangbi Ancient Castle. It is located in the southeast of Jiexiu Basin, with gullies on three sides and a plain on one side, at an altitude of about 1,040 meters. The castle fully utilizes the geographical advantages of retreating to the mountains, which is difficult to attack but easy to defend. It has built an ancient tunnel about 3,000 meters long and three layers of both offensive and defensive functions underground, and built fortifications on the ground to build a city and hide soldiers. The castle wall is about 1,300 meters long and covers an area of about 120,000 square meters. On both sides of a "Dragon Ridge Street" built with red stones in the castle, five major temple complexes are built in a staggered manner.
"Open castles on the ground and secret passages underground", Zhangbi Ancient Castle is home to many ancient cultural sites of the Xia and Zhou dynasties, tunnels of the Sui and Tang dynasties, tombs of the Jin dynasty, stage of the Yuan dynasty, and residences of the Ming and Qing dynasties. It is the only castle site in China with both military and civilian uses, and is also a rare and relatively intact ancient miniature castle in China. It is different from the "courtyard culture" of the Jin merchants' courtyards and the "ancient city culture" of the Pingyao Ancient City. It is a special case of Jin merchant culture.
The most worth seeing parts of Zhangbi Ancient Castle are in the underground part. The tunnel is winding and confusing, divided into three layers. There are earthen troughs for feeding livestock on the upper layer; there is an earthen cave that can accommodate two or three people at intervals under the middle layer of the cave wall, which is the sentry post of the tunnel; it is a cave for storing grain. Here, there are horse troughs, general kiln caves, skylights and wells, as well as granaries, flood discharge and prevention, wall hole communication facilities and assassination mechanisms. But when did the secret passage of Ming Castle appear and who built it has always been a mystery that has troubled archaeologists.

Shanxi is a province rich in cultural relics and ancient sites. Although Zhangbi is not ranked high in terms of cultural relics, it is famous for its ancient tunnels and light buildings. It has very distinctive characteristics. It is not like the various courtyards in Shanxi, nor is it as rough as the loess plateau. Instead, it has some of the elegance of the south of the Yangtze River. It is definitely a place that can make you feel relaxed and happy. For more photos, please refer to my travel notes.

The 5,000-year history of Chinese civilization has seen the Chinese land move from disputes to common prosperity. We have great respect for the wisdom of our ancestors, and the fruitful results have promoted the development of mankind. We can explain that Zhangbi Ancient Castle is "easy to defend and difficult to attack, and there are ways to retreat and advance", and can tell the story of "a place that must be fought for by military strategists". We can personally experience the great engineering of tunnel warfare and feel the breath of many things from history. Zhangbi Ancient Castle is now very famous. CCTV has broadcast documentaries, and the entertainment program "Where Are We Going, Dad?" has also been filmed here. Many movies and TV series have been filmed here. According to the news, it is said that hundreds of millions of dollars will be invested to make Zhangbi Ancient Castle a famous attraction. Ticket prices have risen, and more and more original villagers have moved out. I sincerely hope that the developers can retain a little bit of the flavor of the old things and give us a memory of history.
Zhangbi Castle is located in Longfeng Town at the northern foot of Mianshan Mountain in Jiexiu. The castle was built in 619 AD by Liu Wuzhou in the late Sui Dynasty to fight against Li Shimin. The castle is closed on all sides and has a small urn city. There are historical blocks and a large number of ancient buildings in the castle. Zhangbi Castle is different from the "compound culture" of Shanxi merchants and the "ancient city culture" of Pingyao. It is a special case of Shanxi merchant culture. "Open castle on the ground and secret passages underground", the only castle site in China with dual military and civilian uses, is known as a rare castle town in the history of world architecture.
For someone like me who comes from the Yangtze River Delta, it is quite interesting. In addition to the tunnel, there are also typical northern residential courtyards preserved in the village. It is not far from Mianshan.
When I was a kid, I often watched the movie "Tunnel Warfare" and was full of curiosity about the mysterious tunnels. The reason why I came to Zhangbi Ancient Castle was purely because of it. Zhangbi Ancient Castle is located in Zhangbi Village, Jiexiu City. It is surrounded by gullies on three sides and a plain on one side. It is built on the mountain and is easy to defend but difficult to attack. It is a well-preserved ancient military fortified village.
The construction of the castle follows the traditional Chinese astrology and geomancy concepts, with Yin Yang and Five Elements on the ground and Liu Ren Qi Men underground. More than 30 buildings and landmarks have been found to correspond to constellations. The origin of the name Zhangbi also comes from Zhang and Bi of the 28 constellations.
The most amazing thing about Zhangbi is its open fort and secret tunnel. The ground fort is the open fort, and the tunnel is the secret fort. According to the guide, the tunnel is nearly 10,000 meters long, but only 1,500 meters are open to the public. The tunnel is S-shaped and has three layers. There are general kilns, soldier caves, stables, traps, granaries, and complete facilities for command, surveillance, dispatching, ventilation, and drainage in the tunnel. It has the functions of attack, defense, retreat, hiding, and escape.
Zhangbi Ancient Castle is an ancient village with a long history. The reason for going there is that it has complex and large-scale tunnels, which is a real-life tunnel warfare.
There is an ancient tunnel of more than 3,000 meters hidden under the small Zhangbi Ancient Castle. The tunnel is three-story and connected to the castle in all directions, winding out of the cliffs outside the village.
After I got there, I found out that this was the filming location for Where Are We Going, Dad? Jordan Chan came here to record that season.
Ticket price: 60 yuan. Tour time: more than 3 hours
How to get there?
Don't cross the road when you come out of Jiexiu Railway Station, just go left. Not far away you will find buses from Jiexiu to various scenic spots, including buses to popular attractions such as Mianshan, Wang Family Courtyard, Zhangbi Ancient Castle, etc.
Bus to Zhangbi Ancient Castle: The first bus is at 07:30, the last bus is at 05:20, the fare is 3 yuan, and there is a bus every hour.
When I went there personally, I took the 1:30 pm bus and arrived at the terminal, Zhangbi Ancient Castle, at 2 pm. The actual journey took about half an hour.
On the return trip, take the last bus at 05:20 and return to Jiexiu Railway Station.
Zhangbi Ancient Castle is located in Jiexiu. It is a complex of buildings that integrates military defense and daily life. It is like a small village. There are ordinary houses above the castle, and many ancient relics are preserved. There are also tunnels and warehouses underground, but they have not been developed much.
A very distinctive castle. The underground tunnels are far more magnificent than any tunnel warfare, and they are relics of a thousand years ago. The castle on the ground is also very distinctive. It was the filming location of "Where Are We Going, Dad 5".
The first stop of the castle is the Guan Yu Temple. This is a temple that is against Feng Shui among the more than 30,000 Guan Yu temples built across the country. It breaks the traditional north-facing south and faces south instead. It is also the good wish of the local residents that Guan Yu can protect their castle. Guarding the entrance of the castle.
The second stop is the ancient stage. Shanxi is a famous area for opera, and stages are quite common. The mysterious underground passage of Zhangbi Ancient Castle is like a well-developed small city, with all the internal organs underground. It is divided into three layers, upper, middle and lower, with rich structures, containing traps, organs, accommodation, and prisons. There are many secret passages in the castle that can be entered, and the construction years are very long. Very mysterious tunnel.
It is very easy to get lost in the tunnel, which is long and winding with many forks. I walked about 1 kilometer before I came out of the castle.
After that, we visited several temples. Temples are basically the same across the country. The South Gate Fort of Zhangbi Ancient Fort has a lot of stories, and there is also a red stone road. The distribution of Zhangbi Ancient Fort is like the position of the stars, it is still worth a visit.
Zhangbi Ancient Castle is located at the foot of Mianshan Mountain, 20 kilometers away from Wangjiayuan and about half an hour's drive. I have seen the introduction of Zhangbi Ancient Castle on CCTV's Geography China column and have never forgotten it since then.
The city has a rich history and culture, integrating military, geomancy, religion and other cultures. It has a history of 1,600 years and is very simple and elegant. It is a rare "castle built in the open, tunnels built in secret" pattern in the world.
Highlights: The three-layer tunnel is 10,000 meters long. The famous Tang general Yuchi Gong designed various maze formations, which will easily make you lose your way.
The exit of the tunnel is a bottomless abyss, with a broad view and shocking views.
Secondly, there is the only national treasure-level colored glaze stele in the country. There are two in total, which are very beautiful.
Like other ancient houses in Shanxi, there are temples here, but this is the Khan Temple. It is quite different from other places. There is no way to verify why it is like this.
Zhangbi Ancient Castle is a carrier of multiple cultures and is unique in the history of military architecture. However, such a unique castle is not mentioned in military historical materials, and even in local chronicles, there is no record of it. When was it built? Who built it? What was the reason for its construction? It remains a mystery.
If you only look at the buildings above ground, you've only seen half of the fun. The real world is underground. It's very cool underground. We can only follow the guide. Some roads are accessible but not allowed to enter. So we didn't spend much time in the tunnel.
After walking for a while, I came out and found myself on the edge of a cliff.
There are cave dwellings on the edge of the cliff where people used to live, but now it seems that no one lives there anymore.
From the outside, it feels like a paradise, with a cliff just outside the door. The scenery is unique.
Yesterday we went to Mianshan for fun, so we didn't stop on the way. However, most of the passengers on the Zhangbi Castle bus were local villagers. The bus stopped and started on a bad road. The distance was only half of Mianshan, but it took half an hour to drive. The castle tour time was 2 hours. It would be perfect if there was a return bus at 11:20.
At present, Zhangbi Castle is still under construction. The visitor center is outside the south gate and is very beautiful. Zhangbi is divided into two parts: the ground part and the underground tunnel. It is said that this castle was organized and built by Yuchi Gong in the Tang Dynasty. It is easy to defend but difficult to attack. The essence of Zhangbi Castle lies in the complex tunnels that are easy to get lost. The main attractions are the three-story tunnels, the winding castle walls and the multi-story castle gates. The entrance to the tunnel is next to the south castle gate. It is very winding inside. If there were no tourist signs, you would definitely get lost. The most emotional experience was the first time I returned to the ground from the tunnel. I thought I saw the light of day again, but I didn’t expect it to be a cliff and I had to drill back to the tunnel from another hole.
The show "Where's Dad?" was filmed here, and the entire castle is using it to promote itself.
It is a very simple village, everything is pristine, it is a 4A-level scenic spot, and the filming location for many movies, especially "Where Are We Going, Dad 5", which has made Zhangbi Ancient Castle even more popular. Zhangbi Ancient Castle is a rare pocket-sized town in the world. It can be said that: one village, one castle, one castle, one world.
Although it was noon. My footsteps stepped on the bluestone, breaking the tranquility of the castle. My heart followed into a piece of pure land. I looked up at the high walls and courtyards covered with historical traces. After years of erosion, they still exist. Walking in the castle, I felt like a maze on the ground and an adventure underground. The tunnel was 10,000 meters long in the past, and now it has been developed to more than 1,000 meters. The tunnel is three-dimensional and three-layer. It is very long and mysterious. It is much better than the tunnel in "Tunnel Warfare". It has a long history and is spread all over the village. The caves are connected, and the entrance is at home. At this time, it is a bit late, so I came to the tunnel entrance alone, hoping that there would be someone inside to accompany me. I walked for a while, and then another section... There was really no one inside. People are afraid of darkness by instinct. It is best to enter the scenic spot during the "off-season + off-peak" period. But at this time, I thought: It may not be a good thing. In this dark and complicated tunnel with three floors, turning left and right, I don’t know how long it is. To be honest, my heart was beating a little tight. Fortunately, it was only "fear" rather than "terror". It is not an exaggeration to give Zhangbi Ancient Castle a five-star rating. In Zhangbi Ancient Castle, I felt the weight of history and the accumulation of culture, and the simplicity that has not been polluted by commercialization. However, as a village of scenic spots, the old houses with living conditions in the castle must be inhabited. It cannot be an empty castle. I hope it will not become a tourist attraction that is forcibly demolished and relocated. It must be breathing, showing the heavy history with living culture.
The attraction looks insignificant. The ticket price is 60 yuan, students are half price, and the tour guide is 60 yuan. It is better to find a tour guide to lead the way so as not to go the wrong way. We walked for an hour and a half.
The National Day holiday is coming, have you decided where to go? Come to Zhangbi Ancient Castle to eat sweet potatoes.
Not bad 😊, Highway Radio highly recommends it! There are many old buildings! It is more unique than Beijing's Gubei Water Town. I hope you will do better and better. There are still many creative ideas that I will share with you when I have the chance.
Zhangbi Ancient Castle, a national 4A-level scenic spot, is a relatively well-preserved ancient military fortress in my country that integrates military, residential, production, astrology, and religious activities. It is a rare relic. There are many historical sites in the castle, the most distinctive of which is a three-story three-dimensional tunnel.
Suggested visiting time: 2 hours. It is best to visit in summer and autumn. The full ticket price is 60 yuan and the student ticket is 30 yuan. There are Pingyao Ancient Town, Mianshan and other scenic spots nearby.
Zhangbi Ancient Castle, a pocket-sized castle, is located in Zhangbi Village, Longfeng Town, Jiexiu City, Shanxi Province. It integrates the castle tunnel, palaces and temples, military religion, and folk history. Whether you are a history and cultural relic lover or a travel expert, there is a place for you here.
Ancient temples and ancient bells spread from here to there, lingering in the castle. Being in it, your thoughts are stretched very long. There is also a tunnel here, which is particularly cool to play in summer. Enter from the entrance of the tunnel and have a novel adventure. The castle tunnel is three-story, with the upper layer only about 1 meter from the ground, the middle layer 8 to 10 meters from the ground, and the bottom layer 17 to 20 meters from the ground. The tunnel is winding and confusing, with air holes remaining in the tunnel, connecting to the outside of the trench, and there are wells directly below the bottom of the three layers. In summer, the tunnel is very cool, but in winter, it exudes warmth. The severe cold and heat belong only to the world outside the tunnel.
The tunnels are the passages for soldiers to communicate and hide, and each tunnel has a different function. The tunnels are connected, and the underground traffic is secretive. Light a kerosene lamp and start the day's work.
At the entrance of the village, there is a quaint coffee shop that sells five kinds of products made with homemade honey, red dates, dried apricots, kiwis... After eating one bunch, I was still not satisfied, so I ate another one. Delicious and authentic food always tastes different from others.
The fifth season of "Where Are We Going, Dad?" was recorded here, and this place became a little popular after the show was broadcast. This place is more suitable for tourists who love history, culture, and architectural antiquities. It is relatively cold here in winter and spring, so it is best to come here in summer and autumn.
Tourists from other places can take the train to Jiexiu Railway Station, and then take the bus directly to the scenic spot in Jiexiu City. They can also share a car with others. The ticket price is about 25 yuan.
Zhangbi Ancient Castle is in harmony with the astronomy above and the terrain below. With the ancient temples, gods and Buddhas, and the open castle and secret passages, the colors of Zhangbi Ancient Castle are extremely gorgeous: it is an ancient village, very ancient, with the ruins of the Xia and Shang dynasties, the tunnels of the Sui and Tang dynasties, the tombs of the Jin dynasty, the stage of the Yuan dynasty, and the residential houses of the Ming and Qing dynasties gathered here; it is a military fortress, with the Qimen Dunjia, the Liuren Qimen, the art of the stars, the open castle and secret passages, and the streets of the inner city, which are thrilling everywhere; it is a place of wind and cloud, where Liu Wuzhou, Yuchi Gong, Li Shimin, Tian Zhichao, the first Han Buddhist, Guandi, and Erlangshen are all here. This place is not big, just the size of a palm, but it has everything, which is amazing and admirable.
Zhangbi Castle is 60 yuan per person. Don't cross the road when you come out of Jiexiu Station, just go left. Less than 50 meters away is the bus station from Jiexiu to various scenic spots. It costs 3 yuan per person to Zhangbi Castle. There is a bus every hour. The first bus is at 7:30 in the morning, the second bus is at 8:30, and so on. The last bus is at 17:00. Only cash is accepted. About 10 years ago, I occasionally saw a certain channel of CCTV introducing the history and humanities of Zhangbi Castle when I was bored, so Zhangbi Castle is a must-visit place in my trip to Shanxi. I got up early from Jiexiu Bus Station to catch the 7:30 early bus. I arrived at the castle in less than half an hour. After buying the ticket, I found that there were many large posters of the fifth season of Where Are We Going, Dad? It turned out that this program had also been here! Since there were only 7 people on the first bus, we agreed to go shopping together on the bus, because 5 of us only paid attention to the castle after watching the CCTV program. No one had watched Where Are We Going, Dad, because except for me, everyone was elderly, hahahaha.
Zhangbi Ancient Castle is a tourist attraction that I don't think is worth visiting. The ticket is 60 yuan. Expensive. And it is a privately contracted attraction. It is said that it was developed by the richest coal boss here. So most places are being rebuilt and many are newly renovated. In addition, it was raining that day and the road was muddy and difficult to walk. All the attractions in the country are free, but only this one charges. Not a good impression.
The residents of the castle were all moved out by the developer and moved into a nearby community built specifically for the villagers. Only a small number of people did not move away.
I may never go there again in my lifetime. Of course, I don't recommend it to people around me. People who come here because of the fame of "Where Are We Going, Dad?" will definitely be disappointed.
The origin of Zhangbi's name is that the south gate is Zhangxu and the north gate is Bixu, so the village is named Zhangbi. The important places in the village are also built according to the corresponding astrological signs, but I really can't remember them.
From the horse trail up the city wall and climbing up the Kuixing Tower, you can overlook the entire castle.
The entire castle is paved with bluestone roads, which have been worn out by the years and have gone through many vicissitudes of life!
The houses in the fort are higher in the west and lower in the east. To the west are the high-walled courtyards of the rich families, and to the east are the low mud-brick houses of ordinary people.
From the tunnel model, we can see that this underground passage, which was built since the Sui and Tang Dynasties, is intricate and huge in scale. It is the only thousand-year-old ancient tunnel in China. The tour guide said that only one tenth of it has been restored. If it weren't for the tour guide leading the way, it would be easy to get lost.
The tunnel can accommodate two people walking side by side, and is more than one person tall. It is fully equipped with various facilities and is very comprehensive. I can't help but marvel at the wisdom of the ancients. The tunnel leads to every household. We came out of the farmhouse, looked at the scenery, and re-entered the tunnel. We walked in the tunnel for half an hour and walked out of the tunnel.
The biggest feature of the castle is the underground tunnel that stretches for 10,000 meters. It is divided into three layers of tunnels, which is an amazing underground wonder. The military function of the castle is very significant. It was also the place where Liu Wuzhou, the Khan of Dingyang, and Li Tang confronted each other militarily. The tunnel was also used to hide soldiers and store grain. Nowadays, although the fame of the castle has attracted more people's attention, fortunately, the castle still maintains a relatively good original ecology. According to local people, some developers are already taking advantage of this tourist resource. The approach is to gradually relocate the original residents to the new houses next to it and maintain the original appearance of the castle as a whole. Coinciding with the Spring Festival approaching, walking on the winding stone road of the castle, you can see that the residents living in it are busy with the preparations for the lights and decorations. Red lanterns and spring couplets can be seen everywhere, and the atmosphere of the New Year spreads in the air.
It is a good choice for tourists who like ancient towns, especially to bring children to experience the tunnels of the ancient castle. The ground and underground are interconnected. The wisdom of the ancients is really unimaginable!
Zhangbi Ancient Castle can be visited in about two hours.
Now the people in this village are gradually relocating. The government is preparing to develop this place, and construction has begun in some places. We hope that its original appearance will not be destroyed.
I first learned about Zhangbi Ancient Castle from a CCTV program called "Exploration and Discovery". At that time, I thought this castle, which is a combination of military and residential buildings, was very interesting, especially its intricate underground tunnels from the Northern Dynasties, which made it feel like entering another space. Now the castle has become popular due to the TV series "Where Are We Going, Dad?", and its promotional photos can be seen everywhere.
A very nice place. Zhangbi Ancient Castle is actually a tunnel. It is quite cold inside. Only 1,500 meters of the total 10,000 meters are open. It takes about ten minutes to walk through. I really have to admire our ancients, their wisdom is invincible. In addition to the tunnel, this village is also extraordinary, with beautiful buildings, several temples, stages, and shadow play and puppet show performances. Shanxi is a place with a profound cultural heritage. This place is worth the 60-dollar ticket price.
Zhangbi Castle after the rain, with the scent of soil and grass, is even more full of charming colors.
The slogan of Zhangbi Castle reads: Over 1,300 meters, let you travel through more than 1,600 years. Obviously, the most famous thing about Zhangbi Castle is the military tunnel from more than 1,000 years ago. The fifth season of Dad, Where Are We Going? really made Zhangbi Castle popular. The whole village is filled with photos of dads and children, with the names of the children's homes marked. We found Jasper and Little Puff's home. PS: I was almost blown to pieces by the wind in Zhangbi Castle.
Exit Jiexiu Railway Station, turn left and walk about 150 meters to the bus parking lot. Take bus No. 301, 3 yuan, you can pay the fare with WeChat, instead of the well-known No. 4 bus, directly to Zhangbi Ancient Castle. On the way there, there is a tower next to the road, called Lingkong Tower, a brick tower, which is also very beautiful. Now the scenic spot charges entrance, so you can't visit the village for free.
Tickets are 60 yuan in the peak season (March-October), 50 yuan in the off-season (November-February), and the explanation is 60 yuan. The reference time is 2 hours. The most worth seeing parts of Zhangbi Ancient Castle are all in the underground part. The tunnel is winding and confusing, and is divided into three layers.
Zhangbi Ancient Castle has a rich history and culture, integrating military, geomancy, religion and other cultures. It has a history of 1,600 years and is very simple and elegant. There are also little-known national treasures. The "openly built castle, secretly built tunnel" pattern is rare in the world. The most attractive point: the three-layer tunnel, which is 10,000 meters long. The famous Tang general Yuchi Gong designed various kinds of confusing arrays, and you will get lost if you are not careful. The exit of the tunnel is a thousand-foot abyss, with a broad view and shocking. Secondly, there is the only national treasure-level glazed stele in the country.
Zhangbi Ancient Castle is home to many ancient cultural sites from the Xia and Zhou dynasties, tunnels from the Sui and Tang dynasties, tombs from the Jin dynasty, a stage from the Yuan dynasty, and residential buildings from the Ming and Qing dynasties. It is the only castle site in China that has both military and civilian uses, and is also a rare, relatively intact ancient miniature castle in China. Most experts believe that Zhangbi Ancient Castle was first built during the Sixteen Kingdoms period, and was one of the many fortresses built by Zhang Ping, a powerful man from the Later Zhao dynasty, with a history of more than 1,600 years.
The south gate of the castle corresponds to Zhangsu, one of the seven southern stars of the Vermillion Bird. Zhangsu is the crop of the Vermillion Bird (the organ that stores food), representing military supplies. The north gate corresponds to Bisu, one of the seven northern stars of the Black Tortoise. Bisu was the jurisdiction of the Northern Wei Dynasty. Therefore, the castle was called Zhangbi Castle.
The castle was built for military purposes, so it actually contains three lines of defense. The first line of defense is the outermost urn city and the 1,300-meter-long rammed earth wall surrounding the castle. Zhangbi Castle has two gates in the north and south, the north gate is made of bricks, and the south gate is made of stone. The urn city is built outside the north gate. On top of the urn city, there are military commanders with military meanings, such as Guandi Temple and nearly ten other temples.
The second line of defense was cleverly set up in the living area of the fort. One of the main roads in Zhangbi Fort is called Long Street, which connects the two fort gates in the north and south. It divides the fort into two halves, east and west. The wall on the street side of Long Street is built taller than other places. Every building facing the street in the fort will not have its gate opened on the main street. All intersections are T-shaped, not cross-shaped. The reason is that once the enemy breaks through the first line of defense and enters the fort, it can only detour on the main road. At this time, as long as the alley gate is closed, each building on both sides of Long Street will become an independent fort in the fort. They can fight independently, respond to each other, and form a pincer attack on the enemy from a high position.
The third line of defense is the underground defense system, namely the tunnel, which is also the most distinctive part of Zhangbi Ancient Castle. It needs to be entered from the Guandi Temple on the right side of the entrance. The tunnel is about 2 meters above the ground, the middle layer is 8-10 meters above the ground, and the bottom layer is 17-20 meters above the ground. The tunnel is distributed in a three-layer three-dimensional network structure. There are earthen troughs for feeding livestock on the upper layer; there is an earthen cave that can accommodate two or three people at intervals under the middle layer of the cave wall, which is the sentry post of the tunnel and the cave for storing grain. In addition, there are horse troughs, general kiln caves, skylight wells, granaries, flood discharge prevention and blocking, wall hole communication facilities and assassination mechanisms. It is now a 4A scenic spot and is rushing to 5A, but if it weren't for the filming of Dad, Where Are We Going 5, it would probably not be so popular. The tunnel is the most distinctive and the least distinctive, because there is nothing except the tunnel itself, and the other small attractions are just to make up the number.
Visiting time: The castle is open all day, and the tunnel is open from 08:30 to 16:30
Ticket price: 60 yuan, including the Guandi Temple Tunnel, Kongwang Temple, and Guandi Temple
There are buses from Jiexiu Bus Station that go directly to Zhangbi Ancient Castle. It takes 25 minutes to get there and the bus leaves on the hour. The tunnel is quite unique. There is no mobile phone signal underground, but as long as you follow the signs, there will be no problem. My child and I walked around the entire tunnel. There were folk activities during the Chinese New Year. It was pretty good overall. The entrance to the castle has been repaired now, so it’s probably impossible to get in without a ticket.
The filming location of "Where Are We Going, Dad?" is authentic and has local characteristics, so it is worth recommending.
Zhangbi Ancient Castle has a rich history and culture, integrating military, geomancy, religion and other cultures. It has a history of 1,600 years and is very simple and elegant. The broadcast of "Where Are We Going, Dad?" has greatly expanded its popularity. Fortunately, there are still some traces of commercialization, which is very suitable for in-depth fun~
It is said that originally not all the villagers' homes had secret passages, and many of them were dug by themselves by destroying the original cave wall structure.
There are many unsolved mysteries in the entire Zhangbi Ancient Castle. There are so many relics of the ancient culture sites of the Xia and Shang Dynasties, tunnels of the Northern Dynasties, tombs of the Jin Dynasty, stages of the Yuan Dynasty, cities of the Sui and Tang Dynasties, and dwellings of the Ming and Qing Dynasties all coexist in one place. There is also a complete and massive defense system. The distribution of temples and dwellings is strictly in accordance with the theory of Feng Shui, but the gods enshrined in the temples are not from the same system.
This is a place with no sense of time and space in the physical dimension. From the Xia, Shang and Zhou Dynasties, Sui and Tang Dynasties to the Ming and Qing Dynasties, it seems that traces have been left behind. It is impossible to trace back and sense whether it is a cultural relic of Confucianism, Buddhism or Taoism.
Zhang is not the surname Zhang; Bi is not the wall.
Has a rich ancient culture
Rare cultural relics in China
Zhangbi Ancient Castle has a strong sense of ancient northern China and is worth visiting. The biggest feature is the tunnel hidden in the ancient village, which leads to a magnificent canyon. Moreover, the entire scenic area has not been developed much, so it is more original.
It's just a village in general. The tunnel is interesting. You can feel it. The ticket is 60 yuan. The food sold at the door is not delicious.
Zhangbi Ancient Castle is a relatively intact rare ancient miniature "castle" in China that integrates military, residential, production, astrology and religious activities. Some of the buildings look very interesting in photos. There are few tourists and no public toilets were found.
The name is maintenance, but in reality the scenic spot is filming "Where Are We Going, Dad?". The whole scenic spot is closed. I didn't know in advance. The online group purchases were normal. I drove two days from Beijing and was very disappointed. I don't even watch this rubbish variety show. It has a bad reputation. I hope it will be closed this season. The 4A-level scenic spot is too unworthy of its name. It's just for money, regardless of tourists. Scenic spot, you need me to apologize.
2017.7.23 The whole family drove to Jiexiu for a trip. The first stop was Zhangbi Ancient Castle. As a rare ancient military fortress, it opened our eyes. We drilled the tunnel and visited Erlang Temple. We gained a lot.
I have to say that the public toilet at the Jiexiu bus station is really impossible to enter. It is so smelly that it makes people cry. The departure is on time, and it takes a long time. We sat on the bus and waited for a long time. Zhangbi Ancient Castle belongs to Jiexiu City, and the bus takes more than 20 minutes. After getting off the bus, wow, it’s great, the modern tourist center, and finally saw a modern public toilet without smell. Thank you. The ticket for Zhangbi Ancient Castle is 60 yuan. It was so cold that day. It rained the night before. It was even colder when we arrived at the Zhangbi Ancient Castle in the wild. We froze to death. The ancient tunnel is good. I feel that the various events of the Anti-Japanese War are vivid, and I can feel the wisdom of the predecessors. In addition, tall people should not go. People who are a head taller than me can only bend over and walk in a very long tunnel. Thinking about it, it’s not easy. The heroes of the Anti-Japanese War at that time were really not easy. Even if they didn’t bend over, QQ was rubbed with wet loess.
Zhangbi Ancient Castle is worth a visit. The tunnels really amazed us. The tunnels are like a maze, with three floors, and are so complicated that we only dared to follow the signs for fear of not being able to get out! There are general kilns, command kilns, soldier kilns, ambush kilns, prisoner kilns, war horse kilns, observation wells, and escape passages in the tunnels. The wisdom of the ancients is admirable!
Zhangbi Ancient Castle is still worth a visit. "Open castle on the ground, secret passages underground" is very interesting. It was my first time to go through a tunnel. It was very long. For the safety of tourists, it was reinforced on the original basis, which made the passage for pedestrians a little narrow, but it was still very interesting. It really felt like a war, and I deeply realized the truth that ancient communication basically relied on shouting! Our group hired a tour guide, a young man who just graduated from college, a local, and his explanation was very detailed and interesting! I recommend that you go there if you have time. Two or three hours is enough. It is a good choice to go to Pingyao Ancient City for snacks when you are tired.
In the parking lot opposite the Jiexiu Bus Station. The first bus leaves at 7:30 and there is another bus leaving every hour. There are photos to prove it!
I didn't expect to go here. I found a scenic spot nearby and went there. I was unexpectedly satisfied. The thousand-year-old tunnel is full of mystery. It is really suitable for friends who like adventure. The colored glaze here is also very beautiful. It is said that the colored glaze of the Forbidden City was also transported here. There are only two colored glaze monuments left in the country. I am very satisfied. The tour guide is also very good, very handsome and has a good attitude. It is worth coming here. It has a different taste on rainy days. I will come again in the future
It is worth a visit. It is hard to find such a tunnel in China.
Zhangbi Castle is a five-star recommendation. You must go. It is very unique. There is an underground world under the castle, which can be traced back to the Sui Dynasty. It is unique in the whole of China. You must ask for a guide, it is easy to get lost.
It is a famous scenic spot in Jiexiu. I recommend you to visit it if you have time. The tunnels are very cool. When I went there, I was the only one in the scenic area. I walked in the tunnel without knowing where the end was. I could clearly hear my own breathing and footsteps. It was so cool!
Because we stayed in Jiexiu on the way, we went to Zhangbi Ancient Castle. Zhangbi Ancient Castle is a rare ancient military fortress relic in my country and even in the world. It was formed during the Sixteen Kingdoms period 1,600 years ago. The high fortress walls, complex streets and alleys, and underground tunnels of more than 10,000 meters constitute the five-level defense system of the castle. It can be said that "there is a fort within a fort, and there is a city within a city", which is unique. The castle was built in accordance with the ancient geomancy concept. What is even more magical is that many ground structures correspond to the constellations and play corresponding roles. You can enter the tunnel from the Guandi Temple. It is complicated and you will come out of a different place every time. It is like an adventure and it is still an unforgettable experience.
The authenticity of Zhangbi Ancient Castle is still very high. The atmosphere of the streets and alleys is still the same, very quiet, and the ancient tunnels are very adventurous and stimulating. It is great. Maybe not many people know about it, and even fewer people go there to explore. The villagers are also curious when they see the few tourists. Therefore, there are no restaurants in the castle. It is recommended that you bring your own dry food if you want to go. In terms of transportation, there is a bus from the railway station in Jiexiu City that can go directly to Zhangbi Ancient Castle. It is the terminal station, which is very convenient. People in nearby villages all take this bus, so there is no need to take a taxi.
The passage of thousands of years
Lost in prosperity, lost in desolation
Yellow dust ancient road, beacon fire border town
Witnessed the rise and fall, honor and disgrace, and told the legacy of history
Ranked as one of the top ten ancient towns in China, the castle has a compact and wonderful structure. It is very rare to have such an exquisite and practical castle in the north.
The fortifications here are top-notch, with three floors in total, making it a great place to hide.
Zhangbi Ancient Castle is an ancient underground military base located in Zhangbi Village in Jiexiu.
I personally think that the most amazing thing about Zhangbi Ancient Castle is the colored glaze stele. Of course, its ancient tunnel is also full of fun and interesting. It is quite interesting. It is a relatively authentic ancient village.
The most interesting thing is the authentic style!
The most worth seeing part of the castle is the underground part, where the tunnels are winding and confusing, and the dark passages are deep and secluded.
After exiting the Jiexiu Railway Station, walk to the left for about 100 meters. There is a small passenger station. There are buses that go directly to Zhangbi Ancient Castle. The bus costs 3 yuan per person. Zhangbi Ancient Castle is the terminal station. It takes about 50 minutes to get there. It feels like the bus is full of locals and there are very few tourists. There is a bus every half an hour, and it leaves on time. The ticket to Zhangbi Ancient Castle is 60 yuan per person, and the student ticket is 30 yuan. The entrance to the scenic area turned out to be a temple, and the entrance to the tunnel is very secret and difficult to find. If there is no sign pointing the way, we can't find it. The tunnel is very cool. The two girls walked in it and felt a little gloomy. It was dark, but there were lights on the wall. Although there are three layers of tunnels up and down, the road is flat, but there are slopes. There are many forks, but fortunately there are arrows clearly marked. You must follow the arrows. We missed an arrow at the time and went around a long way before we saw the arrow back on the right road. Although the process feels thrilling, I personally think it is more interesting and have to sigh at the wisdom of the ancients!
The ancient tunnels hidden deep underground and the glazed decorations on the top of the temple are hard to see anywhere else.
The castle is very interesting. The ancient village is worth a visit.
The overall structure of Zhangbi Ancient Castle is built in correspondence with the Kui constellation in the twenty-eight constellations (for knowledge about constellations, go to Baidu). The Book of Jin says that the sixteen Kui constellations are the arsenal of heaven. Therefore, people built the empire's military depot and logistics support in correspondence with the arsenal of heaven.
Did you understand? I was so tired to recall and sort out this part! The tour guide also talked about some other buildings in the fort that correspond to the stars, but I have almost forgotten them. So I also plan to learn a little about the stars and the Eight Diagrams. After all, culture needs to be passed on.
Zhangbi Ancient Castle The entire castle-style village is well preserved and is inhabited by locals. It has not been fully developed. The ancient tunnels are well connected and the military functions are classified and divided into three layers. One has to admire the wisdom of the ancients. The castle is built on the mountain on a typical loess plateau. You can see the cliffs and cliffs. It is very magnificent. There are locals riding bicycles to sell Shanxi sugar-coated haws and apples, or a few old people selling some local specialties. They don't shout, yell, or solicit customers. They sit quietly on the steps and bask in the winter sun. It looks particularly quiet and peaceful. Go and have a look before a large number of tourists trample on this place. Come gently and don't disturb them. It's beautiful.
Went there on New Year's Day, I especially liked the tunnels in the castle! I like watching anti-Japanese war movies, and it was the first time I experienced the authentic taste of the tunnels in person! The Chinese are really great! Very wise!!!
The tunnel built 1,600 years ago is so huge that it is hard to imagine how the ancients dug it out. The underground is hollowed out, but the buildings on the tunnel are still standing. The ancients had a great use of mechanics.
Zhangbi Ancient Castle is a developing scenic spot, but it still has the original flavor. I read in the guide that the light in the tunnel is dim, so we brought our own flashlights, which was very practical because it was really dark in the tunnel.
The tunnel is equipped with traps, vents, communication holes and other mechanisms. There seems to be a well, as well as stables and barracks. The facilities are complete. The ability of the ancients is incredible. The tunnel is very winding, and many passages are sealed and prohibited for visitors to enter. Therefore, it is estimated that only 1/3 of the area is open to the public. However, there are no guiding arrows in this 1/3. It is very "original" and you have to wander around by yourself. Because there are three layers, we once went the wrong way and went around in a circle and returned to the same place. Suddenly, the idea of "ghost wall" came to our mind.
An unexpected place in the journey. It is a village outside and authentic inside. It is quite fun and worth visiting.
It is warm in winter and cool in summer. The tunnel is very well built and communication between people going in and out is smooth.
The ancient castle is located at the northern foot of Mianshan Mountain. The terrain is remote and dangerous, and it is a place for military strategists to guard and build fortifications. Zhangbi Village is an authentic ancient Chinese castle-style village.
The scenic area is not big. I asked the people at the ticket office and they said it would take about an hour to finish the tour. There are buses back to the downtown area of Jiexiu at the entrance every hour, and the last one is at 5 o'clock.
It's a magical place. I've watched a feature film about Zhangbi Ancient Castle on CCTV's Science and Education Channel before, and I became very interested in it. The ancients were really amazing. I admire them...
Great, worth a visit! Hukou Waterfall is a must-see when traveling in Shanxi.
There is a well in the skylight and an assassination trap. After going down, it feels very damp. I hum the song "Tunnel Warfare" and it feels good.
Zhangbi Castle did give us a big surprise. Zhangbi Castle is close to Mianshan Scenic Area, Bunker Line 1 (and Line 2...), which reminded me of the visit to the Tunnel Warfare Memorial Hall in Jiaozhuanghu, Hebei when I was in elementary school, but the construction here seems to be more regular. But the function should be similar. Zhangbi Castle Scenic Area has also filmed the reality show Dad, where are we going? The General Castle is the most impressive, and you can also look out over the military situation in Mianshan. The entrances and exits of the bunker are very varied. From Bunker Line 1 to Line 2, I finally walked out of the wardrobe in a daze. It's amazing. After leaving the bunker, I continued to stroll around the town. Zhangbi Castle Scenic Area not only has tunnels to drill, but also has rich and colorful content on the ground.
