Ganbao Tibetan Village

甘堡藏寨

Ganbao Tibetan Village is a typical large village inhabited by Jiarong Tibetans in Ganbao Township, Li County, Sichuan Province.
The village is filled with blockhouse-like buildings built of stone, made from granite from the river. The stone houses are warm in winter and cool in summer, and are earthquake-proof, fire-proof and waterproof.
The 2008 "5.12 Earthquake" destroyed the Ganbao Tibetan Village, and it was rebuilt on March 5, 2009.
There is a road leading up the mountain in the village. When you reach the top of the mountain, you can overlook the entire village and see the vast snow-capped mountains in the distance.

It's free to enter, and the parking fee is 10 yuan. The consumption is not high. Butter tea is 5 yuan a cup, and barley wine is 10 or 20 yuan a bottle. The toys and accessories are not expensive either. You can see the snow-capped mountains in the distance, and the statue of the general is nice.

If you have been to Taoping Qiang Village, there is no need to go here. They are all newly built after the earthquake, and there is nothing to see. It was Sunday morning when I went there, and there were basically no tourists. I could finish the tour in half an hour. There is really nothing attractive.

Compared to the Tibetan villages I have visited before, there are many more tourists here, after all, it is too close to Chengdu.

As soon as we got off the bus, we could not help but sigh that it was so beautiful that any words would not be enough. There were colorful prayer flags fluttering in the wind everywhere, the Tuoshui River was rushing in front of the door, and there were prayer flags and totems on the mountain not far away. Ganbao means "village on the slope" in Tibetan.

Different prayer flags are inscribed with different Tibetan words, conveying blessings with different meanings.

The Ganbao Tibetan Village was destroyed by a major earthquake on May 12, 2008. The current Ganbao Tibetan Village was rebuilt after 2009. The thousand-year-old Tibetan village has basically been restored to its original appearance. Although it is rebuilt, it is still worth seeing.

Different from the mysterious Qiang village with Jiangnan water village style, it is well-arranged and very distinctive.

Ganbao Tibetan Village was the first attraction I visited on my way to Maga Valley to climb the snow-capped mountains during the Qingming Festival in 2014. Ganbao Tibetan Village is located in the center of the 100-mile Tibetan-Qiang Cultural Corridor from Li County to Ma'erkang. When I got off the tour bus, the first thing I saw was a Tibetan village shrouded in smoke. At the entrance of the village were four big characters "Ganbao Tibetan Village". The whole village is well-arranged, lined up one after another, magnificent and spectacular. It is backed by rolling green mountains and faces the ancient Tuoshui River, with beautiful scenery.

Tourists couldn't hold back their excitement when seeing such a landscape, and walked into the village to explore the beauty inside. The Tibetan villagers passing by were very simple, and I felt a special affinity when I saw the villagers wearing Tibetan costumes. The residential buildings and the ground in the village are all made of stones. These stone walls are flat and straight with clear edges and corners. The terrain of the whole village is higher as you go inside. A monkey is lying on a branch beside the gurgling stream in the village. This is a completely paradise-like environment and life, everything is so harmonious.

The courtyard of the Tibetans' house is full of fruit trees, but there is no gate to the courtyard. I think the people here still retain that innocence and simplicity, so there is no need to worry about someone taking things away at night. Such a life is so comfortable and people's hearts are so sincere. On the hillside opposite the Tibetan village, you can see shepherds holding whips and walking up the mountain with sheep and cattle. There is also a forest full of white flowers that I don't recognize in the village, but there is a circle of fences around it and I can't go in. I can only stand outside to appreciate these beautiful flowers. The team leader gave us an hour and a half to tour the village. Sitting on the stone steps of this ancient Ganbao Tibetan village in the boudoir, feeling the cool air around, looking up at the constantly fluctuating clouds on the top of the mountain, a fairyland-like picture.

I was reluctant to leave this place. I sat on the bus and looked at the Ganbao Tibetan Village built on the mountain from afar. It was well-structured, magnificent and spectacular. As the bus drove on, this fairyland Tibetan village slowly disappeared from my sight.

Ganbao Tibetan Village is located beside National Highway 317, 8 kilometers away from Li County, with more than 200 permanent Tibetan households. The entire village is built on the mountain and is well preserved. The architecture is more exquisite than that of Qiang Village. Unfortunately, it rained heavily when we went there, and the light was not good. The whole village is actually magnificent and rich in Tibetan culture. The usual charge for dinner + accommodation is 120 yuan per person.

This is a free attraction. There was no parking fee before, but now it costs 10 yuan for small cars during the day. When I first came here, I found that the whole village was not big after walking around, and it felt quite comfortable. There was a circle of wooden carts selling things on the dam at the entrance. This time I found that it was banned, and there were only some dried goods and yak meat on both sides of the road. Early May is the season for cherries, and they are also grown here for sale, which looks good. There are not many tourists in this village, and the folk customs are simple. It is worth a visit.

The first time I entered the Tibetan area, compared to the Tibetan buildings, the colorful prayer flags and colorful trinkets fluttering in the wind seemed to move me more. Earthquake ruins. 10 years later, those experiences and moments are still painful for many people who don't want to touch them.

Ganbao Tibetan Village is still very distinctive.

The locals also spent a lot of effort to build this attraction.

But there may not be too many tourists on weekdays.

It’s not very popular;

actually,

Personally, I think it's worth a visit.

Take a moment,

Slowly taste the Tibetan flavor,

Get a feel for the local culture.

By Relatives and friends |

This place is much larger than the Qiang Village. The buildings are built against the mountain. When we arrived, they were bathed in sunshine. The colorful flags fluttering in the distance added to the sense of mystery and sacredness.

The totems and paintings on the walls that can be seen everywhere allow us to deeply feel the Tibetan people’s piety and admiration for the gods.

I went shopping alone. It was hot, so I didn't bring any water. An old lady on the roadside saw that my lips were dry and I looked very tired, so she told me to go to the shade of a tree to cool off. I asked the lady where she could buy water, and she said directly, "No need to buy water. I have boiled hot water and paper cups at home. Just drink the hot water and I won't charge you."

Then my grandma took me home and poured me some hot water. She also showed me the disposable paper cup and water to reassure me that they were clean.

I chatted with my grandma for a while, and when I left, I gave her 5 yuan to buy some water, but she refused to take it, saying that I was doing a good deed and didn’t want to pay. Many people walked past my door and asked them to drink water without paying, but they didn’t dare to. I don’t know why this happened…

I saw some dried mushrooms placed at my grandma's door, so I bought a bag of Rhodiola rosea as a way of thanking her and wishing her good health.

If you pass by here, buy something with grandma, thank you.

Ganbao Tibetan Village is a Tibetan village located next to National Highway 317, a few kilometers out of the county seat in the direction of Wenchuan from Li County.

This is a typical large village inhabited by Jiarong Tibetans. It is built on the hillside and beside the river, hence the name Ganbao, which means "village on the slope" in Tibetan.

Most families in the village have opened inns. The village manager will organize and assign visitors, and tourists can also contact a Tibetan owner directly.

Ganbao Tibetan Village is a world of stone. The village is full of stone buildings.

The stone houses are built along the mountain, with different heights and are arranged in a natural way to form a village.

There are narrow alleys between the houses, and the road surfaces are also made of stones.

There is no such Tibetan village in Tibet. It is well built and has a pear orchard. The flowering period here is later than Jinchuan. There is no ticket. Compared with the sky-high ticket price of Jiaju, this is a better choice! The only inferior place is probably that the surrounding scenery is not as good as Jiaju

Ganbao Tibetan Village and Taoping Qiang Village are both on the only way from Wenchuan to Bipenggou and Miyaluo in Li County. It is very convenient because you can go all the way to Miyaluo. The village was actually rebuilt after the earthquake and has local characteristics. The souvenirs along the way are not expensive and very affordable. The biggest feeling I had all the way from Wenchuan was that most locals, whether Tibetan or Qiang, would not ask for exorbitant prices just because you are an outsider.

By Big Rivers and Big Seas |

Ganbao Tibetan Village is located on the road between Wenchuan and Li County. It is a Tibetan settlement area with a relatively concentrated scale, so it looks larger. If you are traveling with a group, the tour guide will definitely take you here to have a look. It feels a bit like the Qianhu Miao Village in Xijiang, Guizhou, but it is smaller than that. If you are in a hurry, you can ignore it.

By Bad girl |

This place is quite good. Whether you go to Jiuzhaigou, Hongyuan or Seda, you will basically pass by here. It has been basically sinicized, but the village still has that different flavor. There are many people selling things. The village is still very beautiful. For people like me who just need to take pictures and keep them as a nostalgia, it is enough!

By Yangyang is a little girl |

It is mainly used for accommodation and shopping, and was built later. The room occupancy rate should be less than 50%, and many rooms are vacant. However, there is a prayer flag forest on the back mountain, which is beautiful under the sunlight.

The scenery is what I have always longed for. This Tibetan-style architecture has always given me a mysterious feeling. However, since it is a free attraction, many public facilities are not complete. For example, there are few toilets and not many places to eat. It may also be that it was the off-season when we went, so it still feels quite depressed. Everything has two sides. There are fewer people and more photos, which also brings another benefit to our visit.

I remember that weekend I drove to Bipenggou in Li County. It was already afternoon, and on the way I passed a very distinctive Jiarong Tibetan village, "Ganbao Tibetan Village", which immediately attracted me. The wonders of stone are all in sight. The whole village is scattered, magnificent, and spectacular. It has rolling green mountains on its back and faces the ancient Tuoshui River. The scenery is beautiful. So we decided to stay here and prepare to go to Bipenggou the next day. At that time, we found a local inn (there is only a farmhouse here), called "Xueyu Zangjia", the charge was not high, the boss also received us very warmly, and made us their local hot pot "Tibetan hot pot" (strongly recommended). In the evening, we roasted a sheep and held a bonfire party. The next day, the boss also helped us book a discounted air ticket to Bipenggou! Farmhouse TEL15208151112

Well, it feels like a replica, most of the people there are Han people, and the so-called Tibetan village is just a shell. There is no reason to go there specifically, but if you pass by, you can consider going in to rest, anyway, there is no entrance fee.

Ganbao Tibetan Village is in Li County. You can see it on the bus from Chengdu to Li County. It is quite large. It only takes 5 yuan to share a car from Li County and arrive in a few minutes. When we went there, the Tibetan village was not officially open yet and no entrance fee was charged. It happened to be the first rural art festival held in Li County. The villagers were rehearsing seriously and many of them were wearing performance costumes. It was really better to come at the right time than to come early. It takes about an hour to walk around the Tibetan village. You can also climb the mountain to a high place to see the panoramic view of the entire Tibetan village. There are also inns in the Tibetan village. It is estimated that it is now open to the public. It is worth a visit!

Ganbao Tibetan Village is 192 kilometers away from Chengdu and 8 kilometers away from Li County. It is located next to National Highway 317. It is a must-go place from Chengdu to Li County, Bipenggou Scenic Area, Miyaluo, Maerkang, Hongyuan Prairie, and Ruoergai. Ganbao Tibetan Village is a typical large village in the Jiarong Tibetan settlement area. As early as more than 400 years ago, Ganbao Tibetan Village was already a large village with hundreds of households. Entering the Tibetan village, you can experience the majestic momentum and well-preserved ethnic culture of the large village with hundreds of households. The village is full of stone-built buildings like watchtowers, which are made of granite in the river. The stone houses are warm in winter and cool in summer, and are earthquake-proof, fire-proof, and waterproof. When I was preparing to drive to Bipenggou by myself, my friend told me that you can go to Ganbao Tibetan Village when you go to Bipenggou. This is a Jiarong Tibetan village with a strong historical and cultural background. It is less than 20 kilometers away from the Bipenggou Scenic Area. This place has low consumption and good accommodation conditions. It is a good place for leisure and vacation. My friend introduced me to a farmhouse where he had stayed: The Tibetan family in Xueyu said that they had stayed in this farmhouse three times. The farmhouse is located close to the Tibetan village, quiet at night, clean and sanitary, the boss and his family are very kind and hospitable, and you can also eat the most distinctive Tibetan hot pot of the Jiarong Tibetans. The surrounding environment is also quite good. There are Gesang flowers and cherry trees all over the door of the Tibetan house, which is very eye-catching and beautiful. The farmhouse provides free: 24-hour WiFi, parking, 24-hour hot water, electric blankets, etc. The boss also gave us free special small gifts.

Ganbao Tibetan Village is located in Li County, Sichuan Province. The village is new and clean, surrounded by mountains and water. It should have been rebuilt on the original site after the 5.12 earthquake. Looking around, the whole village is built on the cliff and connected to each other. The village has a strong Tibetan culture. Colorful thangkas and totem patterns can be seen everywhere on the stone walls. Colorful prayer flags hang all over the mountain, which is set off by the ancient watchtowers in the surrounding Qiang culture. It is so harmonious and beautiful. The shuttle bus from Li County to Ganbao Tibetan Village is 10 yuan/person, and it costs about 60 to 70 yuan to charter a van. There are small commodities for sale in the village, but it is recommended to prepare some convenience foods by yourself. There is no ticket fee. Reminder: The temperature difference changes greatly throughout the day, and it is rainproof, sunscreen, glasses, and headscarves all year round. I personally think that this is not a tourist attraction. It should be called an ethnic customs park or an ecological park. It is still good to visit the village along the way.

This is the birthplace of the national intangible cultural heritage "Boba Senggen". Everyone can enjoy the simple and original performances brought by local villagers.

There are not many people in the village, and there are few tourists. Outside the village are some locals selling local specialties. Occasionally, I saw a few trees with golden leaves hanging on them, which was amazing with the Tibetan houses. The walls were piled with golden corn, and some were hung with strings of red peppers. The Qiang Tibetan village exudes a small style. Look carefully at the structure of the house, the uneven stairs, the prayer flags fluttering in the wind on the eaves in front of the door, and the flowers on the low walls.

Get lost in the Tibetan village, feel the flavor of each stone step, and appreciate the beauty of a pot of flowers when you look up.

Ganbao Tibetan Village, the first Tibetan village, is indeed worthy of its reputation. It is a very distinctive ancient village, suitable for taking photos.

Although the weather was not good, the scenery was still nice. The only drawback was that the car ride was quite long and most of the time was spent in the car. The long journey was really tiring. On the way back, we encountered a big traffic jam in Yingxiu and were stuck for more than two hours.

On the way back, we passed Ganbao Tibetan Village. We stayed in the village that night. Coincidentally, the Tibetans in this house were of mixed Tibetan and Han descent. Haha, the Han people are my fellow villagers. It costs 80 yuan per person per night, including a dinner and breakfast the next day. It's a good deal.

Many Tibetan villages have this type of sculptures.
