It was still early when we returned to Chengdu from Danba, so we planned to cross Jiajin Mountain from Xiaojin County to Baoxing, Ya'an, and then return to Chengdu. Instead, we unexpectedly encountered the most beautiful scenery. We even saw a sea of clouds! It was truly stunning! From the lake at the foot of the mountain to the meadows and then to the sea of clouds on the mountain, it felt like four seasons had passed.

"Crossing the snow-capped Jiajin Mountain"—when I hear the name Jiajin Mountain, I think of this line from my elementary school textbook. Jiajin Mountain was the first snow-capped mountain traversed by the Red Army during the Long March, and wild giant pandas have occasionally been spotted there. Of course, times have changed, and now you can drive unimpeded. Heading north along Jiajin Mountain, you'll reach Siguniang Mountain in Xiaojin County!

Strictly speaking, Jiajin Mountain isn't a specific scenic spot, but rather an area. Driving north from Baoxing toward Xiaojin County, the entire area is part of the Jiajin Mountain Scenic Area, allowing visitors to wander freely along the way. There's no entrance fee. The main peak, at 4,930 meters above sea level, is the source of the Qingyi River. Going upstream, you'll find dense primeval forests, steep cliffs on both sides, deep valleys, clear lakes, splashing waterfalls, and wildlife aplenty.

The driver stopped the car, and we thought about chasing the yaks as we ran across the hills covered with wildflowers. The altitude was now over 4,000 meters.

In July and August, the top of the mountain is covered with a large amount of water vapor, as if it is from the sky. It is recommended to bring a camera to take pictures. It's a place worth visiting. There was still snow on the top of the mountain during the May Day holiday. Standing on the top of the mountain, you can see the snow-capped peaks.

Except for some landslides on the road, which made the road uneven, the scenery along the way was still more beautiful.

Jiajin Mountain is a very nice place, but because of its location, few people go there just for the sake of it. But after all, beautiful scenery is beautiful scenery. If you go there, you will find that Jiajin Mountain is definitely worth the trip.

The mountain is really beautiful, with thick snow. Every few meters there are small stalls set up by locals, selling water, barbecued meat skewers and potatoes, and providing simple toilets. The road to the top of the mountain is more troublesome because of the snow. When we went there, there was an avalanche at one point, and locals used tools to help clear the way. Every car that drove by would give a little labor fee. I originally thought that the top of the mountain was the only destination, but in fact, after entering the mountain. There are beautiful scenery everywhere, but it is difficult to park, otherwise I think we can play all the way up and down the mountain.

Unexpectedly, the next day, on my way back to Chengdu via Jiajin Mountain, I was greeted by a breathtaking sea of clouds, stretching as far as the eye could see. It's true that some things are hard to come by; they really depend on luck!

Halfway up the mountain, we encountered fog. By the time we reached the summit, the fog was thick and the chill was oppressive. According to vendors at the summit stalls, this thick fog occurs 300 days a year. As we trekked, visibility was a maximum of 5 meters, and we had to use our fog lights and hazard lights.

The scenery along the way in Jiajin Mountain is really beautiful. It will be even more beautiful in October, with red leaves all along the way.

I recommend the Jiajinshan Lake near Jiajinshan Village and the Jiajinshan National Forest Park on the other side of the mountain. The mountain is covered with vast forests, forming a natural oxygen bar, suitable for self-driving and cycling.

The roads on both sides of Jiajin Mountain, marked with red, are currently in poor condition, especially from the Yakou to Baoxing section. However, once the roads are renovated, I believe more people will be willing to visit. Jiajin Mountain has better forest cover than Balang Mountain, and the air is more moist and fresh, making it worth a leisurely visit.

It was a truly bizarre experience: clear skies below, thick fog with scattered snowflakes above. Since it was our first day at high altitude, we were nauseated and dizzy when we got off the car. Our legs weren't very agile, but that didn't last long. Once we turned the corner, we were all as lively as monkeys.

May to September is a good season with good weather and beautiful scenery. The mountains are full of horses and yaks. Animals are easily frightened, so don't get too close to them.

I'd heard long ago that the journey to Tibet was long and arduous, requiring traversal of numerous mountains, including that inhumane Jiajin Mountain. You don't know Jiajin Mountain? You know that inhuman snow-capped mountain the Red Army traversed during the Long March, right? Actually, I only had my epiphany when I was trapped there, starving and freezing, facing armed police checking my car! Pretty inhumane, right? But that's another story.

Following the seemingly pre-planned, melodramatic plot, we encountered traffic control while crossing Jiajin Mountain. A multitude of off-road vehicles, mud trucks, snail trucks, and battered minibuses jammed the winding mountain road, forming a long line of vehicles with no clear path to the end. After the May 12 earthquake, this mountain road became the only access point to Wenchuan. Road repairs were everywhere along the way, and the driver explained that the damage wasn't caused by the earthquake, but by the sheer volume of vehicles passing through during the rescue effort! Oh my god, I immediately recited the names of various deities and bodhisattvas ten times in my mind, and once again, I mourned the victims of the earthquake.

If you have the chance, you must go to Jiajin Mountain. It's beautiful. It's very cold and windy up there, so be sure to dress warmly. The vendors there are very humorous, and the lamb skewers are delicious. You must try them. They're 2 yuan a skewer, and the fat is delicious. You can buy 20 skewers and they'll give you 4 or 5 for free.

After passing Ya'an, we crossed Jiajin Mountain. After some admiration for the dangerous mountain road, everyone gradually entered a fairyland.

The weather at the foot of the mountain was fine, but the climb up was truly different: rainbows and snow. By the time we reached the Jiajin Mountain elevation marker, it was already covered in snow. Despite the cold, I still went down to take some photos.

The weather in Jiajin Mountain changes the most in spring. The snow at the foot of the mountain is thick, and by the time you reach the top, it's knee-deep. The mountains here are densely forested, and the clouds and mist form a changing sea of clouds, which is perfect for taking photos.

At about 4 o'clock, we drove to the top of Jiajin Mountain. There were scattered Tibetans buying barbecue skewers on the top of the mountain. The driver stopped the car again to let us get off and rest. The scenery on the top of the mountain was no longer full of trees, but grassland.

There are few people and the scenery is beautiful. It is so beautiful to see the sea of clouds on Jiajin Mountain. It is very shocking. It is a good place to go.

After about an hour, Jiajin Mountain finally appeared before my eyes. Although I had already imagined snow-capped mountains, the reality of it was even more shocking. Whether I looked down or up, it was just a vast ocean of white, seemingly endless. I couldn't tell east from west, south from north. I never expected to see knee-deep snow for the first time in my life. It was so shocking that I almost screamed in the car. The only regret was that I didn't bring a camera, but what does it matter? I believe that the experience is what matters most, not any evidence!

I just happened to pass by here. I was suffering from altitude sickness and couldn't breathe. The whole mountain was covered with grass, and there was even snow in the higher places.

The Red Army crossed the Jiajin Mountain! I have great respect for the martyrs. No wonder the Kuomintang could not have guessed that they would take this route. The climate and road conditions were so bad.

As we climbed Jiajin Mountain, the scenery was instantly different, and my excitement was building! But the plateau weather was unpredictable: one moment it was beautiful, then suddenly a dark cloud appeared, and then a hailstorm began to fall! Everyone started running for their lives, clutching their skewers, scarves, and DSLRs. It was a truly spectacular sight!

After returning, we climbed the 4,100-meter-high Jiajin Mountain where the Red Army had crossed the snow-capped mountains. The steep mountain top was covered with snow, like a tribute to the Red Army at that time!
