It commemorates Zhuge Liang, the prime minister of Shu Kingdom. It was incorporated into the Han Zhaolie Temple in the early Ming Dynasty and is also the most influential Three Kingdoms relics museum in the country.
It consists of Huiling, Han Zhaolie Temple and Wuhou Temple. There are 50 statues of Shu Han heroes such as Liu Bei and Zhuge Liang enshrined in the temple.
The Wuda Gate, the Second Gate, the Liu Bei Hall, the Passing Hall, the Zhuge Liang Hall, the Sanyi Temple, etc. are arranged on a central axis from south to north.

Among the scenic spots in Chengdu, Wuhou Temple is one of the most popular. "Where can I find the prime minister's temple? Outside Jinguan City, there are dense cypresses." This poem "Prime Minister of Shu" was written by Du Fu after he visited this place. Wuhou Temple is the only temple in China that enshrines both the emperor and his ministers. It is the most famous memorial site for Zhuge Liang, Liu Bei and the heroes of Shu Han, and is also the most influential Three Kingdoms relics museum in the country.
Today, the Wuhou Temple consists of three parts: the Tomb of Liu Bei (Hui Mausoleum), the Han Zhaolie Temple, and the Wuhou Temple. In 223 AD, Liu Bei died of illness in Baidi City, and his coffin was transported back to Chengdu and buried there, which is known as Hui Mausoleum in history. According to the Han system, there must be a temple for every mausoleum, so at the same time, there was the Han Zhaolie Temple. In 234 AD, Zhuge Liang died of illness in Wuzhangyuan. Because he was once named "Wuxiang Hou" during his lifetime and was posthumously named "Zhongwu Hou" after his death, his temple was honored as the "Wuhou Temple". Around the Southern and Northern Dynasties, the Chengdu Wuhou Temple was merged with the Hui Mausoleum and the Han Zhaolie Temple. Because Zhuge Liang's influence among the people exceeded that of Liu Bei, it is customary to call it the "Wuhou Temple".
In addition to the cultural relics area, the red wall alley here has also become a holy place for Internet celebrities to check in. If you want to take pictures with no one at all, you have to come early, and enjoy the feeling of occupying the entire Internet celebrity attraction by yourself before a large number of tourists enter the park! If you don’t know much about the history of the Three Kingdoms, you can rent a guide or use the explanation function of the official account. You will gain a lot of knowledge about the Three Kingdoms. Finally, I have to complain that the tickets are a bit expensive!
🍁It always gets dark early in autumn and winter. Although it was only three o'clock in the afternoon when we arrived at Wuhou Temple, the lush green trees filtered out most of the limited sky. In the dim light, we can feel the calmness and heaviness of history. Such an atmosphere will make us emotionally prepared first, as we are going to visit a philosopher from 1,800 years ago.
✨At dusk, the sky was getting darker, and we finally found the famous Jinguan Deep Place - "Red Wall and Bamboo Shadows". This made us feel that everything just now was like the floating clouds of history, and the road in front of us was the real "Wuhou Temple". The wall is red, the bamboo is emerald green, thousands of emerald bamboos, and the winding red walls. Red and green are the most taboo combination in color matching. I didn't expect that it would be so harmonious and grand when integrated into such a Chinese-style scene.
📸Liu Bei and Zhuge Liang probably never thought that the red wall alley leading to the mausoleum would one day become a popular photo spot in Chengdu, attracting many tourists. Even those who don't like taking photos will take two photos after walking through here to commemorate their trip to Chengdu. In a sense, the red wall alley has become a cultural landscape business card of Chengdu. As long as it is a red wall, whether it comes from the Wuhou Temple or Du Fu Thatched Cottage, it can instantly remind people of Chengdu.
👟When I walked through here, I always felt that all the poetic and picturesque aspects of Chengdu were included. It was like traveling through a time tunnel, walking towards the tomb of Huiling, and like walking back to the vast historical picture scroll of swords and shadows.
📌On one side of the red wall is the Han Zhaolie Temple and Wuhou Temple, and on the other side is Liu Bei's Huiling. So it is said that there are clouds of the Han Dynasty. Here rises the clouds of the true dragon emperor of Shu Han, and the first emperor Liu Bei sleeps quietly underground. Walking in the red wall, the vicissitudes of history come to you, and the bamboo above your head makes you feel energetic. History and reality meet here, and the shadows of bamboo sway between the red walls. It is quiet and peaceful here, and it is a good place to cleanse your mind.
⭐The ticket to Wuhou Temple is 60 yuan per ticket, which is a bit expensive. There is a WeChat QR code inside to listen to the electronic tour guide's explanation directly.
💡Walk along the right side first, look at each scenic spot, and then walk back to the left side at the end. If you are worried about missing any attractions, you can check the catalog in the electronic tour guide, which basically covers all the important attractions.
⭐The red corridor over there is really impressive and suitable for taking photos, although there are Liu Bei's Huiling next to it. There are still many people taking photos.
💡The moment I saw Huiling, I felt that it was really different from the mausoleum of the emperor. It was a mound of earth dozens of times larger than the mausoleum of ordinary people. I always felt that the mausoleum of the emperor should be buried in the ground, with layers of mechanisms, and I couldn't find where the entrance was. Now it is directly displayed in front of me, which makes people doubt whether it is really the mausoleum of Liu Bei. However, it is possible that there are really layers of mechanisms inside. The electronic tour guide also told a story, which was quite weird and interesting. I recommend going! We also bought the Q version of the Five Tiger Generals inside, which was super cute, and the memorial hall inside was not expensive, much cheaper than Kuanzhai.
🎉We booked tickets online in advance and bought a package of Wuhou Temple and Shufeng Yayun, so it would be a little cheaper than the ticket office. There were really a lot of people, but it was really fun to visit inside, with a strong Three Kingdoms sentiment.
🔈Wuhou Temple has audio guides. Remember to learn the route in advance on the WeChat public account so that you won't be confused. Because there are many statues of people inside, I still recommend going to see them in person for a better feeling. The feeling of the photos is not as profound as the real thing.
🉐It's not very big inside, but you can take your time to walk around inside, which feels really good. There are many domestic and foreign tour guides who will explain in more detail, but there are a lot of people and it's hard to hear clearly. We walked around until the museum was about to close.
🔹You must also hire a tour guide or rent an interpreter at Wuhou Temple. History is for remembrance, and you should use your heart rather than your eyes.
👀Speaking of eyes, the most famous thing about Wuhou Temple must be the "green shadows and red walls"! Any travelogue about Chengdu will not fail to mention this unique scenery of Wuhou Temple. The dense green bamboos shade the red walls, which perfectly meets the Chinese people's pursuit of beauty.
💡Wuhou Temple is not big, and it takes about 30 minutes to visit it, but if you want to learn more about it, you still need more time. Read more books, and then you can feel a lot of emotions.
🎁The souvenir shop at Wuhou Temple has many cute Three Kingdoms products, just like the panda products, which are very delicate and beautiful. The price is affordable and the products are the same as those sold outside. If you like them, buy one and take it home!
Wuhou Temple has a ticket entrance and a non-ticket entrance. Both exits lead directly to Jinli. Tickets are 50 yuan per person, and you can scan to listen to the explanation on WeChat. I thought it was another day trip to the scenic spot, but I didn't expect to encounter a super photogenic red wall. The green bamboo is reflected on the red wall, and it is very artistic to just take a photo of the wall.
From Wuhou Temple, you can walk directly to Jinli. I think it must be very beautiful when it is not crowded.
After lunch, we took a taxi to Wuhou Temple and Jinli. There were many people queuing to buy tickets at the entrance of Wuhou Temple. In order not to delay the trip, it is recommended to buy tickets online. The through bus not far from the entrance is fast and convenient! Wuhou Temple is the place where the story of Shu Kingdom is told. There are many attractions about Liu, Guan and Zhang. Friends who like the Three Kingdoms can go and experience it. The red wall inside is deeply loved by the majority of literary and artistic young people. Stopping to take a few photos is a special experience.
Jinli is only separated from Wuhou Temple by a wall. You can also go straight through from inside Wuhou Temple. It is very close! There are a wide variety of snacks and souvenirs, so we decided to have dinner here~
Wuhou Temple is a temple commemorating Liu Bei, Zhuge Liang and other heroes of Shu Han. It originated in the first year of Zhangwu (221 AD) of Emperor Zhaolie of Shu Han. When Liu Bei's Huiling was built, the Han Zhaolie Temple was also built at the same time. Around 500 AD during the Southern and Northern Dynasties, Wuhou Temple was moved from "Shaocheng" in Chengdu to the side of Huiling and Han Zhaolie Temple. This pattern lasted until the Ming Dynasty. In the 23rd year of Hongwu in the Ming Dynasty (1390), Zhu Chun, the King of Shu Xian in the Ming Dynasty, went to Wuhou Temple to pay homage. On the grounds that "the monarch and the minister should be one", he combined Huiling, Han Zhaolie Temple and Wuhou Temple into one. Since Zhuge Liang's influence in the minds of the people exceeded that of Liu Bei, the people used to call it "Wuhou Temple". At the end of the Ming Dynasty, Wuhou Temple was destroyed by war. In the 10th year of Kangxi in the Qing Dynasty (1671), Wuhou Temple was restored and rebuilt on the old site, forming the current pattern. As the only temple in the country that enshrines both the emperor and his ministers, the most prestigious memorial to Zhuge Liang, Liu Bei and the heroes of Shu Han, and the most influential museum of Three Kingdoms relics in the world, the Wuhou Temple enjoys the reputation of "the Holy Land of the Three Kingdoms".
"Three visits to ask for advice on state affairs, two dynasties to help the old minister's heart." The loyalty and diligence contained in these two lines of poetry led me to the Wuhou Temple in Chengdu. The environment of the entire temple is verdant and pleasant, and it creates a solemn atmosphere for visitors. Therefore, visiting here can not only feel the rich historical and cultural heritage, but also absorb the righteous spirit that permeates here, improve your knowledge and cultivation, it can be said to be a very good patriotic education base.
I have been to Wuhou Temple twice. The first time I went there was to visit friends. I had no idea about the culture in the scenic area. I just thought the green plants there were really nice. The second time I went there, I followed the tour guide Xiaoyi. I learned a lot from listening to Xiaoyi's explanation. I highly recommend Wuhou Temple, but you must have an explanation, otherwise you might find it boring.
Wuhou Temple (Han Zhaolie Temple) is located in Wuhou District, Chengdu, Sichuan Province. It originated in 223 AD when Liu Bei's Huiling Mausoleum was built. It is the only temple in China that worships both the emperor and his ministers and the most famous memorial site for Zhuge Liang, Liu Bei and the heroes of Shu Han. It is also the most influential Three Kingdoms relics museum in China. The entire Wuhou Temple faces south and has five main buildings, including the main gate, the second gate, the Han Zhaolie Temple, the hall, and the Wuhou Temple, which are strictly arranged on a central axis from south to north. The Liu Bei Hall is the tallest and the most magnificent. There are also buildings such as the Sanyi Temple and the Jieyi Building behind the Wuhou Temple.
Where is the Prime Minister’s Temple? There are dense cypresses outside Jinguan City.
The green grass on the steps is from the spring, and the orioles sing beautifully through the leaves.
This poem "The Prime Minister of Shu" is not the best work of Du Fu during his time in Chengdu, but I personally think it should be the best poem describing the Wuhou Temple.
Zhuge Liang, courtesy name Kongming and alias Wulong, was a native of Yangdu, Langya, Xuzhou. He was the prime minister of Shu during the Three Kingdoms period, and an outstanding politician, military strategist, diplomat, writer, calligrapher and inventor. He was named "Marquis of Wuxiang" during his lifetime and posthumously named "Marquis of Zhongwu", so his temple is respectfully called "Wuhou Temple".
He visited the emperor three times to seek advice for the country, and helped the old ministers of the two dynasties.
To die before accomplishing the mission will make the hero cry for a long time.
A scholar working as a farmer in Nanyang, out of gratitude for the kindness of his former master who had visited him three times, frequently accepted orders to serve in times of defeat and danger, and worried day and night, and repaid his master with his death.
The choice of loyalty and righteousness between Zhuge Liang and Liu Bei, where the ruler treated the ruler as a great man and the subject repaid the ruler as a great man, can be regarded as an eternal masterpiece of the relationship between the ruler and his subject. It has been highly praised and admired by rulers and scholars of all dynasties.
Over the past two thousand years, the Wuhou Temple has been filled with inscriptions and calligraphy works erected by various famous families and royal families.
Among them, the most famous one is the "Three Wonders Stele": it was carved in 809 AD in the Tang Dynasty. Its full name is "Stele of the Shrine Hall of Zhuge Wuhou, Prime Minister of Shu". It was written by Pei Du, a famous prime minister in the Tang Dynasty, written by Liu Gongchuo, a famous calligrapher and brother of Liu Gongquan, and engraved by the famous craftsman Lu Jian.
It is difficult to surpass him in terms of sophisticated literary style, elegant writing and superb engraving skills.
At the same time, Wuhou Temple is also the only temple in the country that enshrines both the emperor and his ministers.
Liu Bei's Huiling Mausoleum and Han Zhaolie Temple are also here.
On both sides of Liu Bei's statue in the temple are Guan Yu, Zhang Fei and other famous generals of the Shu Kingdom during the Three Kingdoms period.
Du Fu Thatched Cottage and Wuhou Temple can be regarded as must-see cultural attractions in Chengdu. There is a Panda Bus connecting the two. You can find it by asking at the entrance of the scenic spot. It is very convenient.
Because there was a temple fair and lantern festival at Wuhou Temple, there were so many people that the roads were under martial law. Cars could only drive to nearby places and then get off and stroll over. Don't be fooled by the deserted scene on the road, that's just the result of the ban. Look at the huge crowds at the gate of Wuhou Temple... Tickets are cheaper than usual during the temple fair, only 30 yuan, but you have to buy them on site. It took a long time to squeeze in. Although there were fewer people inside, it was still shoulder to shoulder. The three of us were all history geeks, and we had already backed out after seeing this scene. I took Youyou to find a place with few people and walked around, and unexpectedly encountered the Internet celebrity red wall.
There are free audio guides in the scenic area. Scan the QR code when you arrive, or follow the WeChat public account of "Chengdu Wuhou Temple" in advance. If you don't listen to the guide, the whole tour may end quickly and there will be no fun. What's special is that Huiling is a little different from other imperial tombs. You can go and see for yourself how it is different. Of course, there are also claims that this Huiling may not be the real tomb of Liu Bei.
The ticket to Wuhou Temple in Chengdu is 50 yuan, and it is also 50 yuan to buy tickets online. If you don't want to go early, it is recommended to buy tickets online. The ticket collection location is next to the main entrance, which is very convenient. The entire Wuhou Temple takes about 2 hours to visit. There are free wives inside. You can listen to the explanations for free by following the WeChat public account, which is very considerate. There are many exits in the scenic area. Be sure to pay attention and don't go out by the way.
It is still very immersive to come here to listen to the story of the Three Kingdoms. Tickets to Wuhou Temple can only be accepted in cash. For this kind of historical and cultural landscape, it is recommended to cooperate with the explanation to better understand the essence of the scenic spot. Conveniently, you can scan the code in the park to follow the Wuhou Temple official account to listen to the electronic explanation for free. Remember to bring your own headphones.
The Wuhou Temple is not big and can be visited in about 2-3 hours. If you want to take a lot of photos, it will take a little longer.
We went there before New Year's Day, and the entrance fee was already 50 yuan. I had no idea about Wuhou Temple, but I knew that the big red wall was a holy place for taking photos. After I got here, I still paid more. It turned out that this was the Three Kingdoms Relics Museum! We were very interested in the "Chu Shi Biao" engraved on the wall. My husband liked this ancient text very much, so he studied the ancient text version for half an hour. There are sculptures and stone carvings in each hall, and there is a bonsai garden in the back. The westernmost is Huiling, and there is a circle of red walls outside.
I came out to see how little I know and I should go out more often. When I was a kid, I really didn’t like the TV series Romance of the Three Kingdoms, especially the appearance of several grown men who spoke incomprehensible words. They were not cute at all and were not as good as cartoons. I came to Wuhou Temple and realized how wise people were back then. Only then could I understand a lot of history and some unofficial history and gossip.
I found a shared bicycle and rode it to the Wuhou Temple. There was a place to park bicycles outside the Wuhou Temple, and each type of bicycle had a fixed parking area. I think this is very good. Without order, there will be chaos.
The plaque on the main entrance of Wuhou Temple does not say Wuhou Temple, but Han Zhaolie Temple, which is the temple of Liu Bei, the emperor of Shu Kingdom. Zhuge Liang is also enshrined in it. It is a place where the emperor and his ministers are worshipped together. Probably because Zhuge Liang had such a great influence on the people, people called this place Wuhou Temple.
Every scenic spot in the Wuhou Temple has a detailed audio explanation on the Smile official account. Be sure to listen carefully when you visit a scenic spot.
The front hall is dedicated to Liu Bei. Zhuge Liang and Liu Bei were monarchs and ministers, so they had different statuses. The hall dedicated to Zhuge Liang should naturally be at the back. Next to him is Liu Bei's grandson, the son of Liu Chan, who killed his wife and then committed suicide when the Jin Dynasty defeated Shu in the Romance of the Three Kingdoms. Originally, Liu Chan was dedicated to the left, but later people felt that his virtue was not worthy of respect, so it was removed. There are two side halls on the left and right, dedicated to Guan Yu and Zhang Fei respectively.
Continue walking inwards and you will reach the real Wuhou Temple.
Come and pay respect to our great Zhuge Liang, who is famous throughout the universe. When it comes to Zhuge Liang, the first thing that comes to mind is his amazing calculations. He is truly an amazing man. In fact, most people, like me, got to know Zhuge Liang because of the Romance of the Three Kingdoms, or this TV series. In the novel, Zhuge Liang is very good at calculating and has many brilliant ideas. He assists Liu Bei and works to support the orthodox cause of the Han Dynasty. The real Zhuge Liang is also a virtuous and famous prime minister who has devoted himself to the country until his death, spared no effort to create a happy life for the people, and fought for unification to maintain domestic peace. Zhuge Liang made outstanding contributions to the people of Shu throughout his life. His deeds and his character are also worthy of being a model for future generations and admiration.
There are still some remains of ancient buildings in the Wuhou Temple.
The two parts of "The Memorial to the Emperor on Leaving the Capital" were written by Yue Fei. The characters in the front are quite neat, but become increasingly sloppy towards the end, which may be related to his mood when he wrote.
As it got darker, the tourists became fewer and the lights were turned on inside.
I wandered inside for a long time, revisiting the places I had hurriedly passed before. The quietness of the park near evening also made people feel calm, and I wanted to stay a little longer.
The red walls and bamboo shadows of Wuhou Temple are very artistic. Such attractions are suitable for people who like to wear Hanfu and take pictures of Han style. There were not many tourists when we went there, and the second child felt that there was nothing to see. But I personally prefer to walk around such places. The air is good, there are ancient buildings to appreciate, and the key is that there are many ginkgo trees, which is very much to my liking.
The ticket cost 50 yuan, which I bought directly on site. I didn't buy tickets online in advance because I was not sure about the travel time. When I wanted to buy tickets, the online tickets were no longer available. The tickets for Chengdu attractions are generally only a few yuan different from those online, and if you buy tickets for one attraction and then another, there is a free bus to take you there, which is quite convenient.
At the gate of the scenic area, please note that the plaque reads "Han Zhaolie Temple". Many people say that they have been to Wuhou Temple in Chengdu, but they don't know where Han Zhaolie Temple is. After passing the hall behind Liu Bei Hall, it is the real ancestral hall commemorating Zhuge Liang - Wuhou Temple. The last red wall alley, the red wall and bamboo shadows are very beautiful, it is a good place to take pictures.
This is my third visit to the Wuhou Temple. This holy place of the Three Kingdoms has always held a strong attraction for me. I also heard that the ginkgo trees inside have turned yellow, so I made a special trip to come and take another look.
The inscription on the stele of "Qian Chu Shi Biao" is vigorous and powerful, becoming more eye-catching with the passage of time, silently praising Zhuge Kongming's noble character, civil and military achievements.
There were not too many tourists in the morning, and the lush trees highlighted the solemnity of the ancestral hall, guarding these quaint buildings like guards.
The scenic spot is equipped with WeChat voice guides, and listening while walking may be the best way to get to know this place in depth.
In the Wuhou Temple, the most talked-about thing is the famous couplet that serves as a warning to future generations:
If you can conquer the heart, the rebellion will disappear. It has been known since ancient times that soldiers are not for war.
If you don't judge the situation, both leniency and strictness will be wrong. You must think carefully when governing Shu in the future.
Perhaps the ginkgo landscape in the Wuhou Temple is not the most spectacular or dense, but with such a strong cultural atmosphere as a backdrop, it seems that every frame of the picture is full of charm.
Arranging Wuhou Temple in the itinerary is like making up for myself. I have never been particularly curious about the characters of the Three Kingdoms since I was a child.
There are many people taking photos in front of the stone statue of the Three Heroes of Peach Garden... They are basically groups of young and old men taking a step forward for a temporary group photo, as if to prove that their relationship is comparable to the friendship between Liu Bei, Guan Yu and Zhang Fei.
Wuhou Temple is one of the most famous attractions in Chengdu. Even if I didn't go there on weekends, it was still crowded with tourists. It was impossible to take a photo with few people on the central axis. And you have to wait for a long time to take a photo of the red wall with bamboo shadows without people.
The stone lions at the gate have gone through many vicissitudes and are already mottled. There are many tourists inside, so I can only take pictures of the plaques and stone tablets here. These are treasures in the eyes of calligraphy lovers. Occasionally, when the crowds disperse, I can take some very charming photos.
There is a red wall alley connecting the Wuhou Temple to Liu Bei's "Hui Mausoleum". I believe that every visitor to the Wuhou Temple will not miss this famous red wall bamboo shadow! In fact, I came to the Wuhou Temple just for this red wall bamboo shadow. Unfortunately, I encountered a cloudy day, and the bamboo shadow was nowhere to be found, and the red wall also looked dim. But the red wall at the other end seemed to have been repainted, and the color was much brighter. This section of Chengdu's Internet celebrity wall is almost always crowded. If you are optimistic about a composition, you really have to wait for a long time to take a photo with no people or few people.
In fact, this place is very suitable for taking some photos of ancient costumes. In addition to the green bamboo, the combination of golden ginkgo and red walls is also very harmonious.
The entire Wuhou Temple scenic area is quite large. In addition to the most famous places, there are actually many spaces waiting for you to discover. Teahouses can be found everywhere in Chengdu, and Wuhou Temple is no exception.
Recommended playing time: 2-3 hours
Opening hours: 08:00-20:00
Tips: You can follow the scenic spot’s official account to listen to the guided tour. We listened while taking photos and only listened to half of it.
There are nine major Wuhou Temples in China, and this one is probably the most famous. The couplet at the entrance is also a famous couplet that is worth pondering over and over again.
In the early years, I liked this kind of cultural relics very much. I felt that it was like a time tunnel leading to the past, where I could learn a lot about history. However, I don’t know whether it is because of my age or the fatigue of traveling, but now I seem to prefer some natural landscapes.
Fortunately, the architecture of Wuhou Temple is exquisite, and many scenes are very suitable for taking artistic photos. Alas, women~
Another example is the Internet celebrity wall. Red walls are really easy to take photos of. Even if they are everywhere, people still want to take photos of them.
When I was a kid, I liked Zhuge Liang very much when I watched Romance of the Three Kingdoms, so I wanted to go to Wuhou Temple to pay my respects. The "screen wall" of Wuhou Temple is very beautiful for taking photos. I paid 50 yuan to get in. The screen wall is really nice, but there were too many people. I went back and forth for more than an hour before I found a chance to take a few photos of the "screen wall" when there were not many people. The rest of Wuhou Temple is just so-so, and it is generally a park.
We walked along the route shown on the ticket. Actually, we didn't know much about the Three Kingdoms, we just came to watch the fun. The first thing we saw was the Tang and Ming steles. In fact, they were just various inscriptions, and we couldn't understand them anyway, so we just walked through them roughly. After entering the second gate, what appeared in front of us was the Wenwu Gallery. Passing through the Wenwu Gallery is the Han Zhaolie Temple.
Basically, we finished our tour after passing Huiling Mausoleum. Since we had to visit Jinli Ancient Street next, we didn’t stay there for long. Jinli Ancient Street is next to Wuhou Temple.
At the entrance of Du Fu Thatched Cottage, there is a shuttle bus between Wuhou Temple and Du Fu Thatched Cottage. You can buy tickets for Wuhou Temple at the exit of Du Fu Thatched Cottage, which has its own shuttle bus.
Friends who like the Three Kingdoms should really take a good look around. Every place you walk into in the Wuhou Temple will feel familiar. Because of the story of the Three Kingdoms, the elements of the Three Kingdoms often appear around us in life.
In fact, you don't need to rent an interpreter to visit Wuhou Temple. You can search online and as long as you know the name of the building or the name of a certain scenic spot, there will be a full introduction with detailed information. There are also many volunteer children in Wuhou Temple, who should be primary school students. They should have memorized the script. You will find that these children are really cute when they are serious. Sometimes they may get stuck on the content, but it does not affect their familiarity with this period of history. I have to sigh that children in Chengdu should have been influenced by this kind of history since childhood. They are really cute. Mr. Zhuge's ancestral hall is a surprise when you look up.
I went to Chengdu many years ago. I was still an undergraduate at that time. I arrived in Chengdu at around four in the morning. There was a bus stop nearby, so I took the bus to Wuhou Temple aimlessly. It was not until around five o'clock that I arrived at Wuhou Temple. I had some breakfast nearby. I remember that the locals call wontons "chaoshou". We waited at the door until the Wuhou Temple opened and then entered. The scenic area is very large and distinctive. Jinli is next to it, and it is worth a visit!
Not many people may know about Wuhou Temple, but everyone should know Zhuge Liang. As soon as you enter, you will see a map of the Three Kingdoms period. Every place name during the Three Kingdoms period is clearly marked, which is very helpful for people who don't know much about the history of the Three Kingdoms.
The Wuhou Temple is quite large, so we didn’t go too deep into it. Some of the ginkgo leaves in the courtyard had begun to turn yellow.
You must rent an interpreter when you come to this kind of cultural relic attraction. I used the WeChat public account to explain the Wuhou Temple, but I don’t know if it was a signal problem or other problems. I quit after listening to the explanation for a while, and I needed to enter again to find it. It was very troublesome, so I suggest renting an interpreter. A friend told me before that a wall inside was very popular on Douyin, called the Internet celebrity wall. Tour groups don’t come here, and usually people who travel independently come here. Since it was afternoon, there were very few people here. I heard that it is very difficult to take photos without people during the peak season. I am still relatively lucky. When I came, only a few people took pictures here, and only some beautiful women and handsome guys took pictures non-stop. I can take pictures of the Internet celebrity wall without people after a while.
The ticket to Wuhou Temple is 50 yuan each, which is not cheap, but it feels worth it when you visit it.
Although I entered the Wuhou Temple with respect for Zhuge Liang, what caught my eye the most was the bamboo forest and red wall next to Liu Bei's tomb. Many people think that the combination of bright red and bright green is a bit tacky, but the picture in front of me is not only good, but also looks very elegant. The soft afternoon sunlight shines through the green bamboo onto the red walls on both sides of the corridor, and the mottled light and shadow are particularly charming. It is said that this red wall often appears in Chengdu's promotional videos. I also found the "God of Happiness Recipe" in the Wuhou Temple.
After walking around Jinli, I finally found the ticket window for Wuhou Temple! However, when I went in, I found that it was a back door! So we visited Wuhou Temple in a "flashback form"!
The Wuhou Temple is the only temple in China that enshrines both the emperor and his ministers. Fans of the Three Kingdoms should not miss it!
We first visited Jieyi Building and Sanyi Temple (kids, don’t follow our example, it’s better to go in through the main entrance).
As those of us who like to buy souvenirs, we found that the shops inside didn’t have any souvenirs we liked. So I bought a few commemorative coins from the commemorative coin vending machine!
I have no interest in history, it should be about the architectural history of the Three Kingdoms period. The ticket to Wuhou Temple is 50 yuan per person, but it is free to enter Jinli. We entered Wuhou Temple, why? Because I want to shoot Story of Yanxi Palace!
The red walls and bamboos inside are great for taking photos! But there are a lot of tourists, walking around in pairs and taking photos. We waited here to take photos when there was no one around. It took 2 or 3 hours to wait and take photos here, so if you want to take beautiful photos, you still need to be patient.
Wuhou Temple is a memorial site for Zhuge Liang, Liu Bei and other heroes of Shu Han. It is the only temple in China that worships both the emperor and his ministers. It consists of Wuhou Temple, Han Zhaolie Temple and Hui Mausoleum. Wuhou Temple was first built in the first year of Zhangwu in Shu Han (221 AD). It was originally a temple dedicated to Zhuge Liang, also known as Kongming Temple, Zhuge Temple, Prime Minister Temple, etc.
There are more than one Wuhou Temple in China, but the one in Chengdu is probably the most famous! It consists of the Han Zhaolie Temple, the Wuhou Temple, and the Huiling Mausoleum. We should hire a tour guide for the Wuhou Temple, as there are many historical allusions here, and there are too many elements of the Three Kingdoms culture. We hired a tour guide because my son likes the story of the Three Kingdoms and knows a lot about it. The tour guide's explanation also gave us a deep understanding of the past and present of the Wuhou Temple, why the Han Zhaolie Temple is in front of the Wuhou Temple, why the Huiling Mausoleum is very small but well preserved, and we also saw the respect and remembrance of Zhuge Liang by the world.
Chengdu Wuhou Temple Museum covers an area of about 150,000 square meters and was rated as a national first-class museum in 2008. It is divided into three major parts: the Three Kingdoms Historical Relics Area consisting of Huiling, Han Zhaolie Temple, Wuhou Temple, and Sanyi Temple; the West Area with the mausoleum of Liu Xiang, a Sichuan Army general in the War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression, as the main body; and the Jinli Folk Customs Area reflecting the folk customs of western Sichuan. Only the Three Kingdoms Historical Relics Area (the yellow part) requires a fee.
Wuhou Temple is the only temple in China that commemorates the heroes of Shu Han, such as Liu Bei, Zhuge Liang, Guan Yu, Zhang Fei, and other kings and ministers. It is also the world's most influential Three Kingdoms relics museum. In 1961, it was announced by the State Council as the first batch of national key cultural relics protection units.
It was developed based on the location of Liu Bei's mausoleum (Hui Mausoleum). Emperor Gao of the Southern Qi Dynasty, Xiao Daocheng (reigned 479-482), ordered the governor Fu Yan to build the Temple of the First Lord, located to the east of Hui Mausoleum, which is the predecessor of the Han Zhaolie Temple. The Wuhou Temple, a special temple dedicated to Zhuge Liang next to Hui Mausoleum, was built around the Southern and Northern Dynasties. The Wuhou Temple is located to the south-east of Hui Mausoleum, and the Han Zhaolie Temple is located to the south-west of Hui Mausoleum. The three are in the shape of an inverted Chinese character "品", each separate and self-contained.
In the 24th year of Hongwu in the Ming Dynasty (1391), Zhu Chun, the King of Shuxian in the Ming Dynasty, advocated that "the monarch and his subjects should be one body". He abandoned the Wuhou Temple next to Huiling, rebuilt the Han Zhaolie Temple, and placed the statue of Zhuge Liang in the Han Zhaolie Temple, thus realizing the pattern of "one temple to worship both the monarch and his subjects". Since then, the name Wuhou Temple no longer refers specifically to the temple commemorating Zhuge Liang, but includes areas such as Huiling and Han Zhaolie Temple, collectively known as "Wuhou Temple". In the 10th to 11th year of Kangxi in the Qing Dynasty (1671-1672), Song Kefa, the Sichuan Provincial Surveillance Commissioner, presided over the reconstruction of the Wuhou Temple, forming a pattern of two halls standing side by side, with the front hall as a court ceremony and the back hall as a family ceremony, worshipping the monarch and his subjects together, which has lasted until today.
Located on Wuhou Temple Street in Wuhou District, Chengdu, the Wuhou Temple covers an area of 150,000 square meters. It was originally built to commemorate Zhuge Liang. After continuous renovation and integration during the Ming and Qing dynasties, it eventually became a complex of four parts: Han Zhaolie Temple, Wuhou Temple, Huiling Mausoleum, and Sanyi Temple. It is the only existing temple in China that worships both the emperor and his ministers.
Wuhou Temple is a vehicle for local people to express their affirmation and praise for the spirit of "devoting all their efforts to the cause until their death" of Zhuge Liang, the Prime Minister of Shu Han. It is also the source of the Three Kingdoms relics. As a Three Kingdoms relics museum with influence all over the country and even the world, Wuhou Temple shoulders the mission of conveying the history and culture of the Three Kingdoms. Every year, millions of tourists come here with the mentality of reverence, exploration, or just a visit. In the thousand-year-old temple with constant incense, they savor the stories of the Three Kingdoms and think carefully about the reputation of the famous ministers and brave generals of the Three Kingdoms.
The ticket is 60 yuan. When I went there, it only accepted cash or UnionPay cards, not WeChat or Alipay. I don’t know what it is like now.
If you want to take pictures of the quiet and deserted red wall alley, please come in the morning! There are very few tourists at this time, and you can take pictures as you like.
Wuhou Temple is also connected to Jinli, which is part of Chengdu Wuhou Temple Museum, so we found the entrance in Jinli. This should be one of the entrances. You can also use cash to buy tickets from this gate. Fortunately, I brought cash, but the 50 yuan ticket still feels a bit expensive.
I am not a fan of historical traces, nor do I have a Three Kingdoms complex. I mentioned earlier that I only came to check in for the red wall. After entering, I directly asked the security guard where the red wall was. In fact, I didn't know until I arrived that the red wall was the outermost wall of Huiling. The red wall and green bamboo are good materials for taking photos. It was just cloudy that day and there were many tourists. I took the opportunity to take a few photos, which fulfilled my wish; as for the other contents in Wuhou Temple, I don't think I visited any of them!
You can't miss the Wuhou Temple when you go to Chengdu. In fact, the Wuhou Temple is inside the gate of the Han Zhaolie Mausoleum. I carefully observed these historical relics and benefited a lot. During the Three Kingdoms period, Liu Bei established a country in Sichuan to restore the Han Dynasty because Cao Pi abolished the Han Dynasty and established the Wei Kingdom. The name of the country should be "Han". Later generations called it Shu Kingdom, which is actually a misunderstanding of history. Some movies and TV series depicting the Three Kingdoms period nowadays all wave the flag of Shu Kingdom, which is wrong.
The tomb of Liu Bei in Wuhou Temple is called "Hui Mausoleum". It was actually built during the Three Kingdoms period. Liu Bei died in 223 AD. Zhuge Liang personally selected the site of the tomb and built the Han Zhaolie Temple. Zhuge Liang died in 234 AD. At that time, there was no temple built for him in Chengdu. It was not until the Southern and Northern Dynasties that Wuhou Temple was built next to Liu Bei's Mausoleum. Wuhou Temple and Liu Bei's Mausoleum were combined during the reconstruction during the Wanli period of the Ming Dynasty. The so-called joint worship of the monarch and his ministers was actually created by later generations who respected Zhuge Liang. The current Wuhou Temple was built during the Kangxi period of the Qing Dynasty, and it may be very different from the real historical relics. Zhuge Liang's tomb is at the foot of Dingjun Mountain in Hanzhong, Shaanxi.
On both sides of the Liu Bei Temple, Guan Yu and Zhang Fei are enshrined, but there is no statue of Liu Chan. Instead, there is a statue of Liu Chan's son Liu Zhan. The reason may be that Liu Chan was incompetent and not worth preserving his statue. Liu Zhan insisted on resisting the enemy and refused to surrender. In the end, he killed his entire family and committed suicide. He had a kind of integrity, so he was commemorated by later generations. There are also statues of his son Zhuge Zhan and grandson Zhuge Shang in the Zhuge Liang Hall. These two bravely killed the enemy and died on the battlefield. Later generations think they are also worthy of commemoration. These heroic characters are almost unknown in "Romance of the Three Kingdoms".
There were statues of civil officials and military generals afterwards, Zhao Yun was the first among the military generals, and Pang Tong was the first among the civil officials. Most of them were built during the Daoguang period of the Qing Dynasty. What is interesting is that Zhao Yun was dressed as a civil official, wearing a robe and a belt, which puzzled me. Maybe the people of the Qing Dynasty had their own interpretation when shaping their bodies. Nowadays, many antique buildings have been built around the ancestral hall, and the gardens are also beautifully built. It has become a place for Chengdu citizens to relax, drink tea, play cards, and talk about the gate array. There are many teahouses.
Wuhou Temple, a national AAAA-level tourist attraction, is the only temple in China that worships both the emperor and his ministers. It consists of the temples of Liu Bei and Zhuge Liang, the emperor and minister of Shu Han, and Huiling. When you get off the bus and cross the road, you will reach the west area of Wuhou Temple, which is open to the public for free. It is a large park for citizens to relax, and the main architectural relics are in the paid area.
I don't feel anything. If you are a fan of the Three Kingdoms, you can go and have a look, but I don't think it's worth the price of the ticket. If you want to take pictures of that popular wall, you can go, but I always feel that it's not appropriate to pose and sway in a place like this.
The Wuhou Temple is the only temple in China that enshrines both the emperor and his ministers. In addition to Liu Bei, there are also statues of Zhuge Liang's son and grandson.
Unlike the extremely wise Zhuge Liang, his son and grandson both chose to become military generals. The quiet red-walled path is a popular check-in spot for internet celebrities, and it is indeed very artistic.
It has a long history and rich cultural atmosphere. Friends who are interested in the Three Kingdoms can go and have a look. Chengdu Wuhou Temple is the only temple in China that worships both the emperor and his ministers. It is the most famous memorial site for Zhuge Liang, Liu Bei and the heroes of Shu Han in the Three Kingdoms. It is also the most influential Three Kingdoms relics museum in the world.
After checking in at the main gate, you will be able to enter the temple by swiping your ticket. On the right side of the entrance is the guide's office, where you can hire a guide to accompany you and introduce the attractions and history. If you don't want to hire a guide, you can scan the QR code on the ticket to have an electronic guide give you a machine-guided introduction. (So, it's best to wear headphones in advance. If you play it loud, you probably won't be able to hear it clearly, and it consumes power.)
There is a stele pavilion on the left and right sides of the front hall. The one on the right is called "Three Wonders Stele" and the one on the left is called "Ming Stele". In short, they are all the comments of the great people in history on Wuhou Temple. In comparison, the Three Wonders Stele on the right seems to be more famous, not only because it was made in the Tang Dynasty, but also because its engraving, technique and writing art are all unique and worth savoring.
After reading the inscription, we passed the plaque "Mingliang Qiangu" and the gate, and the left and right sides were respectively the display areas of civil officials and military generals. On the left side, the "Preface to the First Expedition" was first, followed by the statues of military generals of the Shu Kingdom during the Shu Han period and their corresponding introductions. Here we saw Huang Zhong, Ma Chao and Zhao Zilong among the Five Tiger Generals, and of course there was also Comrade Liao Hua, the vanguard general who was known as "there was no great general in Shu who could be the vanguard"; on the right side, the "Postscript to the Second Expedition" was first, followed by the famous civil officials of the Shu Han period, among which the "Four Heroes of Shu Han" attracted much attention. We have all seen the couplets on both sides of the Wuhou Temple in textbooks, and every word and sentence commended Zhuge Liang's sincere heart of devoting himself to the Shu Han throughout his life until his death. Passing through the Wuhou Temple Pavilion, the plaque "Famous in the Universe" on the front and the couplets on both sides (very famous!) are the interpretation of Zhuge Wuhou's spirit. Mr. Wolong is sitting upright. Looking closely, you can feel his great wisdom and courage in strategizing and winning thousands of miles away! On the left and right sides of Wuhou are Zhuge Liang's son and grandson, Zhuge Zhan, Zhuge Shang, and the three generations of the Zhuge family are reunited together, which can be regarded as a reproduction of the loyal and ardent noble character before the world. Passing through the rockery park and strolling along the narrow path, the red walls and green tiles on both sides have become a place for Internet celebrities to check in and take pictures against the backdrop of green bamboo. Many tourists pose here to create artistic style~~~ (a bit similar to Du Fu's Thatched Cottage)
Arriving at Liu Bei's tomb, I felt that this place was not as magnificent and imposing as the previous one. The Shinto and mythical beast statues on both sides were quite Bashu-style, not tall, and cute. After coming out of the Tomb of Emperor Zhaolie of Han, we arrived at the periphery of the Three Kingdoms Cultural Exhibition Hall. It is said that this is the remnant of the Han Palace of the ancient Shu Kingdom. There are sarcophagi, columns, reliefs, and mythical beasts... When we came to the Three Kingdoms Cultural Exhibition Hall, it basically introduced allusions about the Three Kingdoms period and the corresponding excavated historical relics and Bashu culture. Many parents brought their children here for historical edification and patriotism education, which is quite good. On the left side of the Wuhou Temple Park is the Tomb of Liu Xiang. Interested friends can also go and see it, but there is a separate fee. My friend and I did not go, but we passed by several pavilions on the way to the exit. They were not as grand as the imperial tombs of the Ming and Qing Dynasties, but they also had a unique charm~
The Wuhou Temple is located in Wuhou District of Chengdu, adjacent to Jinli. It began to be built in 223 AD when Liu Bei's Huiling Mausoleum was built. It is the only temple in China that enshrines both the monarch and his ministers, the most famous memorial site for Zhuge Liang, Liu Bei and the heroes of Shu Han, and the most influential Three Kingdoms relics museum in the country.
Wuhou Temple is open until 8pm, which seems to be the most beautiful time when the lights of Jinli next door are lit at 8pm. People over 60 years old are free to enter Wuhou Temple, and adult tickets are 50 yuan/person. It took a while to queue up for cash tickets. Chengdu Wuhou Temple is the only temple in my country that enshrines both the emperor and his ministers, and is the most famous memorial site for Zhuge Liang, Liu Bei and the heroes of Shu Han.
Try to visit the Wuhou Temple when it just opens in the morning. It commemorates Zhuge Liang, the prime minister of Shu Kingdom. It was incorporated into the Han Zhaolie Temple in the early Ming Dynasty and is also the most influential Three Kingdoms Relics Museum in China. • It consists of three parts: Huiling, Han Zhaolie Temple, and Wuhou Temple. There are 50 statues of Shu Han heroes such as Liu Bei and Zhuge Liang enshrined in the temple. • Wumen Gate, Second Gate, Liu Bei Hall, Hall, Zhuge Liang Hall, Sanyi Temple, etc. are arranged on a central axis from south to north. In 223 AD, Liu Bei died of illness in Baidi City, and his coffin was transported back to Chengdu and buried here, which is known as Huiling in history. According to the Han system, there must be a temple where there is a mausoleum, so at the same time, there was the Han Zhaolie Temple. In 234 AD, Zhuge Liang died of illness in Wuzhangyuan. Because he was once named "Wuxiang Hou" during his lifetime and was posthumously named "Zhongwu Hou" after his death, his temple was respectfully called "Wuhou Temple". Around the Southern and Northern Dynasties, the Wuhou Temple in Chengdu was merged with the Huiling Mausoleum and the Han Zhaolie Temple. Because Zhuge Liang's influence among the people exceeded that of Liu Bei, he was named Wuxiang Hou during his lifetime. Therefore, it is usually called the "Wuhou Temple". As the only temple in the country where the monarch and his ministers are worshipped together, the most prestigious memorial site for Zhuge Liang, Liu Bei and the heroes of Shu Han, and the world's most influential Three Kingdoms relics museum, the Wuhou Temple enjoys the reputation of "the holy land of the Three Kingdoms". The Wuhou Temple is not big, and people who like the history of the Three Kingdoms can come and take a look. It's pretty good. In addition to the cultural relics area, the red wall alley here has also become a holy place for Internet celebrities to check in. On one end of the red wall is the Han Zhaolie Temple and the Wuhou Temple, and on the other end is Liu Bei's Huiling Mausoleum.
The Wuhou Temple is located together with Emperor Zhaolie, and is the only temple in China that worships both the emperor and his ministers. The temple is very large, and contains many historical sites, including many inscriptions, couplets, calligraphy and paintings, most of which are from famous artists, and the Three Wonders Stele is the most famous.
The Wuhou Temple in Chengdu is located on Wuhou Temple Street, South First Ring Road, Chengdu City, Sichuan Province. It is the only temple in China that enshrines the emperor and his ministers together. It consists of the temples enshrining Liu Bei and Zhuge Liang, the emperor and minister of Shu Han, and Hui Mausoleum. It was named after Zhuge Liang was granted the title of Wuxiang Hou during his lifetime.
It originated in 223 AD when Liu Bei's Huiling Mausoleum was built. It is the only temple in China where the emperor and his ministers are enshrined together, the most famous memorial site for Zhuge Liang, Liu Bei and the heroes of Shu Han, and the most influential Three Kingdoms relics museum in the country.
The Wuhou Temple in Chengdu, located on Wuhou Temple Street, Nanmen, Chengdu, Sichuan Province, is the only temple in China that worships both the emperor and his ministers. It consists of the Wuhou Temple, the Han Zhaolie Temple and the Huiling Mausoleum. People are accustomed to collectively refer to the three as the Wuhou Temple. Liu Bei, Kong Ming, Guan Yu and Zhang Fei each have their own halls; in addition, there are 14 civil officials and generals in the left and right corridors, totaling 28 civil officials and generals. Those who are familiar with the history of the Three Kingdoms can use this as an index to review the visit, which is more interesting! In addition to understanding the history, stories and legends of the Three Kingdoms, there is also a popular photo-taking spot "Red Wall Bamboo Shadow" outside the wall of Huiling Mausoleum. Arrive early or go late when the sun is slanting, and the bamboo shadows projected on the red wall are better, and there are fewer people taking pictures. The ticket price is 50 yuan for adults. The ticket policy is a little different from other attractions. Public security officers are free.
The Wuhou Temple is a temple dedicated to Zhuge Liang, the Prime Minister of Shu Han during the Three Kingdoms period in China. It was named after Zhuge Liang, who was given the title of Marquis of Wuxiang during his lifetime.
In August of 234 AD, Zhuge Liang died of illness due to overwork at Wuzhangyuan (about 20 kilometers south of Qishan County, Baoji City, Shaanxi Province) on the front line of the Northern Expedition at the age of 54. Zhuge Liang was the prime minister of Shu Han. During his lifetime, he was named "Wuxiang Hou". After his death, he was posthumously named "Zhongwu Hou" by Liu Chan, the last emperor of Shu Han. Therefore, his temple was historically honored as "Wuhou Temple". The earliest Wuhou Temple in China is in Mian County (Mianyang County) in Hanzhong, Shaanxi Province, but the most influential one is the Chengdu Wuhou Temple.
It's a place worth visiting, but unfortunately we had limited time and it was already night when we arrived, so we just checked in.
A symbol of Chengdu, it is also the origin of the name of Wuhou District. There are many stories to tell.
Zhuge Liang, the idol of most Chinese people
You need to find a guide here. Otherwise, it's meaningless to wander around. I saw a set of children's books about the Three Kingdoms, which was quite interesting.
It's just so-so. It's being revised now. I think we need to explore the Three Kingdoms culture in detail.
Du Fu Thatched Cottage + Wuhou Temple, and also wrote a public account~
網紅拍照地, 鄰近錦里, 也是值得來一來
One of the representative attractions in Chengdu, it is still worth a visit, but it is more like a park. The scenery is OK, but the sense of history is lacking.
Ancestral hall dedicated to Liu Bei and Zhuge Liang, a popular check-in spot for fans of the Three Kingdoms
The cultural relics inside are well preserved, full of Three Kingdoms culture
A must-visit in Chengdu! Liu Bei's Huiling is located here, with statues of Three Kingdoms figures, all made in the Qing Dynasty.
Wuhou Temple is located in Chengdu. It is the only temple in China that enshrines both the emperor and his ministers. It is adjacent to the Temple of Han Zhaolie and the Tomb of Liu Bei (Huiling). It is worth a visit.
The fan is very beautiful, but unfortunately only Chinese people can understand the English inside
One of Chengdu's landmark buildings, it is the only temple in the country that worships both the emperor and his ministers.
It's a nice garden, and there are many precious ink pens of celebrities~
【Wuhou Temple】Recommendation Index: 🌟🌟🌟4A Tickets: 50/person Southwest direction within one ring, play time 2 hours, there are many people all year round. If you are not a fan of the Three Kingdoms or Zhuge Liang, and it is not a cultural and historical theme trip, then there is really nothing to do in Wuhou Temple. There are several temples in the park, which is relatively large. The attraction is the history of the Three Kingdoms. However, it has become a must-visit attraction in Chengdu. It depends on what you value in your travel. If it is not a cultural theme trip, there is no need to go to Wuhou Temple. By the way, the big red wall outside Wuhou Temple is beautiful for taking pictures. Don’t miss it, little cuties. Every year from March 20th to April 51st, the Wuhou Temple Street in front of the Wuhou Temple will be full of crabapple flowers, which is very cute.
I didn't want to buy tickets, so I just walked outside the door to experience the Three Kingdoms style. The name of the Land of Abundance is well-deserved.
It took me less than 2 hours to have a quick tour, but I devoted myself to it until my death!
Comfortable environment, strong nostalgic atmosphere
