Zhaojue Temple, adjacent to Chengdu Zoo, is a popular temple. It was founded during the Zhenguan period of the Tang Dynasty. It was originally named "Jianyuan Temple" and was given the name "Zhaojue" by Emperor Xuanzong of the Tang Dynasty. It is known as the "No. 1 Zen Forest" in western Sichuan. In Zhaojue Temple, there is a modern wooden statue of "Thousand-handed Guanyin". The neatly raised hands stretch out into a mysterious space like dense bushes, and the head of Guanyin is hidden in it. The main buildings in the temple include: the mountain gate, the octagonal pavilion, the Heavenly King Hall, the Xianjue Hall, the Yuanjue Hall, the Imperial Book Building, the Guanyin Pavilion, the Nirvana Hall, the Sutra Building and the Yuanwu Zen Master Cemetery. It is one of the largest and most spectacular temples in the southwest region. Zhaojue Temple not only occupies an important position in the history of Chinese Buddhism, but also has made outstanding contributions to the history of cultural exchanges between China and foreign countries. To this day, many Buddhist temples in Japan and Southeast Asia still regard Zhaojue Temple as their ancestral temple. The "Biyan Record" and "Yuanwu Xinyao" written by the eminent monk Yuanwu Zen Master are included in the Taisho Tripitaka of Japan. His book "The Unity of Tea and Zen" was introduced to Japan more than 300 years ago and is still regarded as a treasure by the Japanese tea ceremony community.

For those who are interested in Buddhism, I think Zhaojue Temple is worth recommending. The temple is large and majestic, and it is very interesting to read the stories written on the stone tablets.
You can go there from the zoo. There are fewer people in the temple, it is quieter and the environment is quiet. There are some ginkgo trees inside, which are very beautiful.
Zhaojue Temple is full of incense and smoke is rising. Zhaojue Temple is the "No. 1 Zen Temple". Zen is a kind of practice, and practicing Zen is to be yourself. All difficulties can be resolved by yourself, and in life, doing these ordinary things with your own hands should be what Buddhism calls living Zen.
Zen is everywhere in Zhaojue Temple: a monk turned around and smiled as he passed by the release pond. An old monk sat quietly in the corridor, seemingly cultivating his mind, as if his six senses were pure and he was indifferent to the world. Another monk was sitting in front of the monk's room, concentrating on reading a book, and his right hand was touching his head from time to time.
In front of the incense burner on the other side, there are pilgrims and tourists who come to pray to the gods. In this life, fireworks come and go, and they do not seek fame, wealth, honor, or fortune, but only to live in peace and let nature take its course. Perhaps only in this way can they live happily in the world and make their lives worthwhile.
Walking in Zhaojue Temple, far away from the noisy city, the tranquility is right beside you, accompanied by nature, living with plants and trees, listening to the sound of wind chimes on the eaves of the temple, and living in the same courtyard with pious and simple people. The rhythm in the temple is always out of tune with the outside, maybe this should be considered a small perfection. There are many things in life that have no results, and things that go against one's wishes and things that come true always turn into pain and joy in life. I think getting is itself a kind of destiny.
A pond is clear and silent. A group of released grass turtles lie on a moss-covered stone platform. Their reflections in the water clearly show two words: quiet.
It was totally beyond my expectation. It was great and not too crowded. It might be hard to find the place. It was very artistic.
It's really hard to find Zhaojue Temple. There's a zoo next to it, but you can't go in from the zoo. You have to go in from the door next to the Zhaojue Temple bus station. There were many uncles and aunts at the door asking if they wanted fortune-telling.
Like all temples, the architecture is very distinctive.
Grand and magnificent, quiet and secluded, connected to the back door of the zoo
Zhaojue Temple is located in the Qinglongchang area of Chenghua District, separated from Chengdu Zoo by a wall. Because Zhaojue Temple was previously changed to Beijiao Park, the zoo entered, and the monks of the temple were incorporated as collective employees. Later, the state protected cultural heritage and separated the two units and operated them independently. In terms of transportation, take the subway line 3 from the city to the Zoo Station. The navigation will guide you through the zoo and enter Zhaojue Temple from the side door. You may need to buy a zoo ticket. I chose to relocate the main entrance and ride a shared bicycle from the zoo for about 10 minutes to arrive. Of course, there are also buses for about 3 stops, or you can choose to visit the zoo first and then visit Zhaojue Temple. The two attractions are separated by a wall and have a connecting door. You can navigate to choose the most suitable way. The relationship between the zoo and the temple is quite interesting.
The first feeling when entering Zhaojue Temple is that you are in a dense forest. The central axis road is lined with lush trees on both sides, and you immediately enter the quiet mood of the ancient temple.
A very nice temple, quaint and a good place to worship Buddha.
It is a key Buddhist temple in Sichuan and also a key Buddhist activity site in my country. It is not only known as the "No. 1 Jungle" in western Sichuan, but also has the reputation of "No. 1 Zen Forest" in western Sichuan.
The main reason is that the incense is very popular. The main building is of good size, but nothing special. It has history, but the sense of history is not strong. The tree in front of the main hall is very big.
Zhaojue Temple, located in Chenghua District, the northern suburb of Chengdu, is not only known as the "First Forest" in western Sichuan, but also as the "First Zen Forest" in western Sichuan. It is a key Buddhist temple in Sichuan and one of the key Buddhist activity sites in my country.
It is now open to the public free of charge and is an important historical site in Chengdu.
The scenery is very nice, it would be nice if there was an explanation...
I wandered around randomly and found the scenery was really great, with many plants.
Friends who have been to the Chengdu Zoo know that next to the zoo, there is a famous Zhaojue Temple. However, Zhaojue Temple is known to more Chengdu people because there is a famous Zhaojue Temple Station here, and many buses use it as a bus hub. I know that there are two gates in Zhaojue Temple, one is connected to the zoo, and the other is entered from Qinglongchang.
This place is known as the "First Zen Forest". Emperor Xizong of the Tang Dynasty named it Zhaojue Temple, which means "to enlighten others with its brightness, and to enlighten others with its enlightenment". It covers an area of 128 mu and is one of the few places for the practice of both exoteric and esoteric Buddhism in Han areas. On weekdays, when you go to Zhaojue Temple, you will not feel the noise of Qinglong Field not far away, as if everything is quiet. There is also a Buddhist College in Zhaojue Temple. There is a couplet written at the door, "The Dharma will last for a long time and benefit people and gods, and the exoteric and esoteric Buddhism will be like dragons and elephants". There are eight big characters outside, "Promote Buddhism and cultivate monks". There is a big tree in Zhaojue Temple, called "Tree Enveloping Monument", known as the "Heavenly Tree King". Many people cool off under it in summer.
How could a Buddhist miss it? ~~~~~~
Zhaojue Temple is located in the northern suburbs of Chengdu. It is known as the "first jungle" in western Sichuan. During the Zhenguan period of the Tang Dynasty (627-649), it was converted into a Buddhist temple and named Jianyuan Temple. It was renamed "Zhaojue" during the reign of Emperor Xuanzong.

A new friend mentioned the tranquility of Zhaojue Temple. I had planned to visit Qingyang Palace, Daci Temple and Zhaojue Temple in one day. However, it was too late when I finished visiting Qingyang Palace and Daci Temple that day. I didn’t want to finish the task in a hurry, so I decided to go there next time. I didn’t want to stay in Chengdu, so I went alone. The weather was good that day. I walked for nearly three hours and was still not satisfied. The big banyan tree outside the main hall is very old, and the pigeons in the temple are not afraid of people. The style of the Han Tantric temple is between the Tibetan temple and the Han temple. It’s great! I will also ask my friends to go there together to experience vegetarian food next time~
My mother likes temples very much. I heard that Zhaojue Temple is a temple with a long history. She said she must come and see it. It is very big and quiet. I encountered free books in the temple... My mother took the books home to read with the intention of studying hard... My mother had a great time
Beside the Zhaojue Temple bus station, since it is a transfer point to the Panda Base and Guanghan, this itinerary can be included in the itinerary to these places as a stopover. A rough tour of the entire Zhaojue Temple takes at most one hour, but if you listen to Buddhist music, daydream, feed pigeons and eat, it will take more than that. Although it is known as the first Zen forest in western Sichuan, it may be because it has not been renovated or promoted, so there are not many tourists and the incense is not too strong. But this is more like a real Buddhist pure land. Because it practices Tantric Buddhism and has some connection with Tibet, many Tibetan monks will hang up here when they enter Sichuan. So if you walk around inside, you can see many people dressed in Tibetan style.
It was noon when we arrived so we considered having a vegetarian meal. However, we really couldn't get used to it. We thought that vegetarian food should be light and we could at least have 1-2 non-spicy dishes. But almost everything was red, except for the soup. It was really spicy. Their vegetarian fish and spareribs were not bad, but they always tasted weird. The more delicious thing was a bowl of refreshing spicy tofu. Of course, there was a sweet option. The most considerate thing was that the hotel staff were probably Buddhists, they were kind-hearted, and they were very humble and patient. When we were leaving, the old lady who collected the plates reminded us to take our belongings with us and not forget them.
It felt really good. There was no entrance fee, and incense could be taken for free from a box outside the door. There was a ritual going on the day I went there, and I immediately felt at ease.
Zhaojue Temple is located on Zhaoqing Road, Chenghua District, and is connected to Chengdu Zoo. It is usually quiet and far away from the hustle and bustle of the city, which makes people feel the solemnity and tranquility of the Buddhist temple. It is low-key but full of connotation. The main attraction is the main hall, which enshrines Vairocana Buddha, Vairocana Buddha, and Sakyamuni Buddha, and the eighteen Arhats on both sides. Zhaojue Temple is known as the "first forest" and "first Zen forest" in western Sichuan.
The transportation nearby is very convenient, with bus routes 18, 25, 32, 38, 64, 70, 85 and 87.
It's a real thousand-year-old temple, with many monks and a Buddhist school!
A relatively quiet temple with a vegetarian restaurant open to the public. You can stroll around the temple after dinner. It happened to be a rainy day, so you can take shelter from the rain while strolling. There are few people, but the incense is constantly burning.
Zhaojue Temple is a Tibetan Buddhist temple located in the north of Chengdu. In addition to burning incense and praying, I went to the temple to experience the vegetarian food in the temple. The temple is quite large, basically a traditional temple layout. There is a wishing tree next to the main hall at the end, which is tied with red ropes. Many believers pray in this way. The halls in the temple are exquisite and grand, and there are many released turtles in the release pond. Speaking of vegetarian food, this is my first time to experience it. Anyway, it is a non-meatless meal. I ordered twice-cooked pork (vegetarian!), fried green beans, bear paw tofu, fish-flavored eggplant, plus a bamboo fungus tomato soup, and a free dish of kimchi. The flavors are all Sichuan cuisine. What is commendable is that the vegetarian twice-cooked pork is really well fried, with a meaty aroma, but it is not fried with a single bit of meat. The bear paw tofu is also spicy and numb. The fish-flavored eggplant is fried with kimchi and pickled peppers, and it has a bit of fishy smell. The green beans are average. The bamboo fungus soup is the most expensive, about sixteen yuan, but it is indeed very delicious. The other dishes basically do not exceed ten yuan.
Zhaojue Temple is right next to Chengdu Zoo. You can go to Zhaojue Temple after visiting the zoo, or you can go directly to Zhaojue Temple without going through the zoo. The ticket price is 2 yuan.
When I went there it was during the National Day Golden Week. I don’t know if it was because it was close to evening, but there were not many people in the temple, which made Zhaojue Temple seem even more peaceful. Every time I go to a temple I will consciously turn down the noise, as I feel that speaking too loudly is a great sin.
Walking deeper into the temple, there is a Buddhist college and a stupa containing the relics of eminent monks.
It is said that Zhaojue Temple is very popular and is always crowded during the Spring Festival.
I went there on my way to the zoo. It was okay the first time I went there, and I saw some strange things.
The elephant has taken control of the underworld, especially the one with tusks.
The sea lion was very well behaved and pitiful, and everyone teased her.
The tiger is not fierce, and the lion is circling.
Hahaha, it looks like I’m writing a review of a zoo!
That cheetah's room is too small!
The words "First Zen Temple" on the lintel of the Zhaojue Temple's main gate highlight its extraordinary status. The palaces and courtyards in the temple are magnificent and spacious, with curling incense smoke, which further proves that it is worthy of its name.
Zhaojue Temple has a quiet environment, and many elderly people live here as lay Buddhists, meditating and practicing.
I went to Zhaojue Temple to worship. I felt that the red walls and green tiles that I had never seen since I was a child were very beautiful.
And the patterns on the tiles
Zhaojue Temple in Chengdu is known as the "No. 1 Buddhist Temple in Western Sichuan". It was first built during the Zhenguan Period of the Tang Dynasty. It was first built as Jianyuan Temple and was named "Zhaojue" during the reign of Emperor Xuanzong of the Tang Dynasty. The building is beautifully decorated and has a strong incense. In 1983, Zhaojue Temple was listed as a national key Buddhist temple in the Han area by the State Council.
