Jiefang Bridge

Jiefang Bridge is a hub bridge connecting Hebei, Hedong and Heping districts and connecting to the Tianjin Railway Station area.
The original name was "Wan Guo Bridge" because there were nine foreign concessions in Tianjin at that time, which earned it the nickname "a country within a country". After the liberation of Tianjin, the bridge was renamed "Jiefang Bridge".
The Liberation Bridge will be open during important festivals. When the bridge is open, luxury yachts will sail across the bridge, accompanied by the colorful and dazzling Haihe River, which is the most beautiful time.
If you are lucky, you might even get to take wedding photos while the car is stopped at a red light in the middle of Jiefang Bridge. It is a novel and interesting scene.

Jiefang Bridge, formerly known as the "Wanguo Bridge," is a river crossing connecting Hebei and Heping districts in Tianjin, China. Located over the Haihe River, it is China's only double-leaf vertical bascule bridge and a landmark of Tianjin. The bridge's opening system utilizes an electric motor to drive a gear train, a running wheel, a rack, and a curved beam, enabling the bridge to open vertically and facilitate navigation. It's a popular photo spot, and the night view is also stunning.

By homeless |

Jiefang Bridge was originally named "Wan Guo Bridge," a reference to the nine concessions within Tianjin at the time of its construction: Britain, France, Russia, the United States, Germany, Japan, Italy, Austria, and Belgium. After Tianjin's liberation in 1949, "Wan Guo Bridge" was officially renamed "Jiefang Bridge." Jiefang Bridge is also a double-leaf vertical swing bridge, allowing vehicles to pass when closed and ships to pass when open. Today, the sight of large ships passing under Jiefang Bridge is only seen on major holidays, a rare sight. Renowned bridge expert Mao Yisheng once said, "Almost all the drawbridges in the country are concentrated in Tianjin; this is undoubtedly a Tianjin specialty."

Jiefang Bridge, a landmark of Tianjin, serves as a hub connecting Hebei and Heping districts and the Tianjin Railway Station area. Originally built in 1902, it was rebuilt in 1923 and officially completed in 1927. Originally named "Wan Guo Bridge," it was nicknamed "French Bridge" by the Tianjin Municipal Council because it was built under the supervision of the French Concession Municipal Council. Following the victory of the Anti-Japanese War, the then-Nationalist government renamed the bridge after Chiang Kai-shek, changing the name from "Wan Guo Bridge" to "Zhongzheng Bridge." Following the liberation of Tianjin in 1949, the bridge was officially renamed "Jiefang Bridge," a name it retains to this day.

Jiefang Bridge, also known as the Bridge of Nations, the French Bridge, or the Franco-Russian Bridge, is one of only three remaining openable bridges across the Haihe River. Built in 1927, it is located between Tianjin Railway Station and Jiefang North Road. It is one of Tianjin's landmark buildings.

It's right next to the station, and I checked in together with the Century Clock.

You can see it from Tianjin Station. The night view is also very beautiful. There are many street performers singing around. There are still many tourists after 10 o'clock.

Jiefang Bridge, an all-steel, retractable bridge spanning the Haihe River between Tianjin Railway Station (East Station) and Jiefang North Road, was built in 1927. The bridge is 97.64 meters long and 19.5 meters wide. It is not only a landmark of Tianjin but also a hub bridge connecting Hebei, Hedong, and Heping districts, bridging the Tianjin Railway Station area.

The Jiefang Bridge is the only retractable iron bridge in Tianjin. Built by the then French Concession Municipal Council, it once connected the Laolongtou Railway Station and the Concession. Also known as the Wanguo Bridge, it's not very long, but it looks quite old.

The Haihe Jiefang Bridge, a retractable all-steel structure bridge, was a rarity in that era! It is a representative of Tianjin bridges!

By Phony Chef Jia |

Built in 1927, this all-steel, retractable bridge over the Haihe River is one of Tianjin's landmarks. The bridge's name has changed several times over the years. During the Battle of Tianjin in 1949, the People's Liberation Army, employing the offensive tactics of "advancing east and west, cutting off the enemy in half, first south then north, first cutting off and then encircling," met at this bridge. Therefore, after liberation, the name was changed to "Liberation Bridge," a name still used today.

An iron bridge connecting the Century Clock Square and Jinwan Square at the Haihe Cultural Square of Tianjin Railway Station. The river is not wide and the bridge is not big, so it should be able to open and close. It is the scene where Zhao Wei jumped into the river from the bridge in the movie "Romance in the Rain".

I passed by Jiefang Bridge on my way to find Liang Qichao's former residence. It's fine to just take a look at it as you pass by. I personally don't think it's necessary to visit it as a separate tourist attraction.

Liberation Bridge is right next to the Century Clock. Hmm... it's just a bridge... but it's a Tianjin attraction, so I came to check it out. Tianjin Station, Jinwan Square, Liberation Bridge, and the Century Clock are all very close together. If you don't have much luggage, you can just visit on your way out. Or if you're taking a night train, the night view is pretty good.

The world-famous bridge on the Haihe River, Tianjin's city card

By China-TravelNote users |

The beautiful Haihe River. History. Very close to Tianjin Railway Station (high-speed rail), less than a 10-minute walk to this bridge. A reminder to out-of-town tourists: beware of scams. There are Mahua tows hanging around nearby, stalking people with backpacks and luggage, all with the same Tianjin accent: "Where to go? I'll show you the way. Don't trust the navigation system (stupid bastards). By the way, I recommend Mahua Grand View Garden, two blocks away. Hurry or you'll be sold out after get off work. They claim to be handmade, but ignore them! Authentic Mahua doesn't need street solicitation! Bad guys take advantage of outsiders who are tired and confused by the heat to trick you! The tricks are too deep, you'll fall for it if you get caught! Nine-nation concessions. Depressing Mahua tows. Tianjin's intangible cultural heritage, Mahua, is about to be ruined by scammers! Please repost, thank you!

Haihe Jiefang Bridge, formerly known as the "Wanguo Bridge," was built in 1927. It's an all-steel structure and the only bridge in Tianjin that still has the ability to lift and open. The bridge connects Jinwan Square to Tianjin Railway Station, and the Century Clock, one of Tianjin's ten scenic spots, is located on the other side of the bridge.

The Liberation Bridge, said to have been designed by the same Frenchman who designed the Eiffel Tower, stands tall over the Haihe River for a century. Jiefang Bridge was once the most expensive bridge on the Haihe River, and it remains expensive today because its historical value is inestimable.

Although the Liberation Bridge can be opened from the middle to allow ships to pass through, it seems to be rarely seen, at least in winter.

A bridge that combines cement, MTR and wooden boards – this is the charm of architecture.

Listen quietly to the sound of passing wheels of cars, the buzzing of vibrating bridges, the sound of cold wind blowing...these are the sounds of Tianjin.

It turns out that people in Tianjin celebrate New Year by releasing Kongming lanterns. No one mentioned this online before. I was secretly happy and was glad to come out and experience it.

It's a pity that one person can't release it, and it requires some skills. I saw many of them fell into the lake. 10 yuan/each

I can only keep my wish in my heart.

Historical witness carries memory

The Jiefang Bridge, also known as the Wanguo Bridge, was built in 1927 and is the only vertical, rotating bascule bridge in China. It is the most expensive bridge on the Haihe River, retaining its original form and function, carrying the memory of history.

Jiefang Bridge, over 97 meters long and 19 meters wide, carries heavy traffic between Tianjin's Hebei, Hedong, and Heping districts. With a maximum opening angle of 88°, it can accommodate ships of up to 500 tons. It allows traffic to pass when closed and ships to pass when open.

Tianjin's Jiefang Bridge, also known as the Wanguo Bridge, is the only remaining retractable bridge across the Haihe River. It connects Century Clock Square in Hebei District with Jiefang North Road in Heping District. Located between Tianjin Railway Station and Jiefang North Road, it is an all-steel, retractable bridge built in 1927. The bridge is 97.64 meters long and 19.5 meters wide. It is not only a landmark of Tianjin but also a hub connecting Hebei, Hedong, and Heping districts, and the Tianjin Railway Station area. Near Jiefang Bridge, there was previously the Laolongtou Bridge, built by the Qing government in 1902 at the request of the French Concession authorities. With the development of urban transportation, plans for a new bridge began in 1923, and upon its completion in 1927, the old bridge was demolished. Jiefang Bridge, originally known as the Wanguo Bridge (meaning "International Bridge"), connected Laolongtou Railway Station in the north and the Zizhulin Concession in the south. This name stems from the nine foreign concessions in Tianjin at the time: Britain, France, Russia, the United States, Germany, Japan, Italy, Austria, and Belgium. Located at the entrance to the French Concession, the bridge was built under the supervision of the French Concession Municipal Council, leading Tianjin residents to call it the French Bridge. Following the victory of the Anti-Japanese War, the then-Nationalist government named the bridge Zhongzheng Bridge after Chiang Kai-shek. Following Tianjin's liberation in 1949, the bridge was officially renamed "Liberation Bridge," a name it retains to this day.

Across from the train station stands a large iron bridge crossing the Haihe River. It seems quite old, but it's still in normal use, allowing both pedestrians and vehicles to pass through. It's just that the bridge hasn't been raised in years due to the large ships passing under it. The decorative lighting on the bridge is beautiful, and it looks even better from a distance, especially when the reflections in the river complement the bridge itself.
