Marco Polo Square

Tianjin Marco Polo Square is located in the former Italian Concession in Hebei District, Tianjin. It is the only Italian Concession in modern China and the only Italian Concession abroad.
Marco Polo Square covers an area of 2,200 square meters. The Statue of Peace is located in the center of the square. It was built to commemorate the victory of the First World War. After its completion, it was shipped from Italy to Tianjin via Shanghai.
The square consists of a statue of the Goddess of Peace and six typical southern Italian Mediterranean-style villas. The main sculpture includes a fountain, a pedestal, Roman columns, and a 13.6-meter-high statue of the Goddess of Peace, all made of granite. The upper part of the pedestal is decorated with four European-style statues, and the top of the column is a bronze statue of the Goddess of Peace with outstretched wings, holding an olive branch, symbolizing the eternal theme of "friendship and peace."

Marco Polo Square, located in Tianjin's Italian Style Street, was named after Marco Polo, a figure with historical ties between China and Italy. The name has survived to this day. Located at the intersection of two streets, Marco Polo Square features classic Italian architecture, making it a prominent Italian landmark and preserving the Mediterranean charm of over a century ago. Numerous film and television dramas have been filmed here, notably the 2009 film "Perfect Match" starring Fan Bingbing and Zhang Ziyi and "Silver Empire" starring Zhang Tielin and Aaron Kwok.

Marco Polo Square is located in the former Italian Concession in Hebei District, Tianjin. It is the only Italian Concession in modern China and the only concession Italy has ever had abroad.

Opened on June 7, 1902, it covers an area of 771 mu (approximately 1,000 acres). It borders the Haihe River to the south and the Jingshan Railway to the north, not far from Tianjin Station. Marco Polo Square, the central building of the former Italian Concession (now the Italian Style District), covers an area of 2,200 square meters and is located at the intersection of Marco Polo Road and Dante Road.

Marco Polo Square is the central building of the former Italian Concession (now the Italian-style area). In the middle of the square stands a cylindrical monument with a sculpture of the Goddess of Victory on it. It was built by the Italians in Tianjin in 1918 to commemorate the victory of the First World War.

After visiting the nearby Italian style tourist area. Such a small place does have many Italian elements, fountains, squares, angels on the pillars in the center of the square,

There are flowers and plants under the windowsill, which makes you feel like you have accidentally entered Europe.

Marco Polo Square is one of the landmark buildings in the scenic area. The central Corinthian column is decorated with the goddess of peace holding an olive branch. To the west is the "Wish Fountain of the Winged Lion" in Piazza Venezia.

Located at the intersection of Minzu Road and Ziyou Avenue in Hebei District, Tianjin, the center of the square originally stood a statue of the Eagle of Peace, the goddess of peace, designed and built by Italians to commemorate the victory in World War I. After the founding of the People's Republic of China, the sculpture was damaged but has now been restored.

Tianjin Haihe River scenery. My hometown is comparable to the Seine River in France.

Check in at Marco Polo Square. It's actually quite close to the Century Clock and the train station, and you can get there by bike. Marco Polo Square is an Italian-style square with a goddess sculpture. There's nothing interesting else. The things sold there are nothing special, and you can buy them anywhere. Most of the other places are Western restaurants and bars. Tianjin's tourism resources are scarce, so just check in as a tourist attraction.

Marco Polo Square: Ferrotti's ingenuity lies in naming the square after Marco Polo, a figure of historical connection between China and Italy. He named the central square of the concession "Marco Polo Square," a name that has survived to this day, while other streets with Western-sounding names have long been unceremoniously changed to our own. The Chinese will always be the masters of this land. The villas surrounding the square are mostly Italian-style corner pavilions, ranging from garden pavilions to square pavilions, with round and square columns, embellished with arches, flat arches, pointed arches, continuous arches, and vertical columns. These pavilions, staggered in height, create a beautiful architectural space, a rare surviving example of authentic Mediterranean architecture in Asia. During festivals, these pavilions are "oiled and lit" to recreate the splendor of ancient Roman temples.

Piazza Marco Polo, located at the intersection of Avenida da Liberdade and Avenida da Nacional, isn't exactly the center of the tourist area. It's only one block to the south, but three blocks to the north. In the east-west direction, it and Piazza Dante each divide the entire tourist area into three blocks, so it's actually located slightly southwest. In the center of Piazza Marco Polo stands the Statue of Peace, built to commemorate the victory in World War I. It's the work of renowned Italian sculptor Giuseppe Boni. The statue, slightly slender, stands over ten meters tall, consisting of a circular fountain, a square base, a round stone column, and a statue of the goddess at the top. Each side of the base is inlaid with a European-style facial relief. The bronze statue of the goddess of peace, atop the column, holds a semicircular olive branch and has a pair of outstretched wings at her back, symbolizing the theme of "friendship and peace." The statue is dark green, evidently made of bronze. The lower column, base, and basin are constructed of gray granite. I'm told the original, erected in 1923, was destroyed in the 1950s.

Marco Polo Square is located at the intersection of the former Marco Polo Road (now Minzu Road) and Dante Road (now Liberty Avenue). It consists of a sculpture of the Goddess of Peace and six typical southern Italian Mediterranean-style villas.

The Peace Statue, located in the center of the square, commemorates the victory of World War I. Construction began in 1923 and was designed by the renowned Italian sculptor Giuseppe Boni. The main sculpture comprises a fountain, a pedestal, a Roman column, and a 13.6-meter-tall statue of the Peace. Atop the column is a 2-meter-tall bronze statue of the Peace, clutching an olive branch and ready to fly, symbolizing friendship and peace. Each side of the base is surrounded by reliefs of human heads, each with a spout beneath it that sprays water in all directions.

The six villas surrounding the circular Piazza Marco Polo are divided into three groups, all constructed of brick and wood. The interiors of each group are largely identical, with the ground floor housing the living room and drawing room, and the second floor housing bedrooms and bathrooms. The main difference lies in the towers' flat-roofed pavilions, which feature various arches, including flat, round, and pointed.

Now it has been built into an Italian-style area by the Tianjin Municipal Government, becoming a comprehensive multifunctional area integrating tourism, commerce, leisure, entertainment and culture.

Located near the Italian Scenic Area, there are many tourists here. The nearby pancakes are also very delicious, 10 yuan each, and look relatively clean. They are also sold in the Ancient Culture Street, and seem to be 6 yuan. I don't feel this way.

The iconic building of Marco Polo Square is the statue in the picture below. The square is very prosperous and there are many taxis picking up and dropping off passengers here. The main reason is not because Marco Polo Square is more attractive. What is attractive is the Italian-style street next to Marco Polo Square. However, Marco Polo Square is also nice. On a sunny afternoon, you can sit on the steps of Marco Polo Square and chat with friends and bask in the sun. It is very comfortable.

Located at the intersection of Via Marco Polo and Via Dante, Piazza Marco Polo is the heart of the Italianate district and is free to visit. At first glance, the square appears modest, consisting of a tall statue fountain surrounded by tiered flower beds. It's a magnificent sight, with historical information on one side. However, the most noteworthy attraction is the surrounding complex of unique Italian-style garden villas and residential buildings. These elegant and magnificent buildings feel like walking on the streets of a foreign country, making them a perfect place for photo opportunities.
