Ancient Culture Street, located in Nankai District, Tianjin, runs from Tongbei Road in the north to Shuige Street in the south (you can also walk from south to north). It borders Dongmalu Road to the west and Zhang Zizhong Road, which borders the Haihe River, to the east. Although the street is irregular and not a straight line, the entire scenic area is relatively small, making a half-day visit sufficient. Tianjin-style food, drinks, and entertainment are readily available throughout the street. The "Jinmen Hometown" archway in the south and the "Gushang Art Garden" archway in the north are prime photo spots. The heart of the scenic area is the Tianhou Temple. Buses connecting the area include Northeast Corner, Beicheng Street, Dahutong, and the Jade Emperor Pavilion on Ancient Culture Street, with dozens of bus routes passing through, making it very convenient. From Tianjin Station, the subway is the most economical option. The closest stop is Southeast Corner on Line 2, a five-minute walk north. For self-driving, parking is available around the street, charging a metered fee of 4 yuan per hour.
Ancient Culture Street, to be honest, the number of people in this place is really not that much more than that in Nanshi. The number of people here is quite good, not that small. At least you can see that it is a tourist attraction 😄.
We entered from the main entrance and walked around slowly. It wasn't hot inside because there were sunshades on both sides, so we walked neither fast nor slow in this hot day🚶♀️.
There are many shops inside, all of which are related to ancient culture. After all, it is an ancient culture street. There are also many shops selling calligraphy and painting, antiques, fans, cheongsams, shadow puppets, and sugar figurines.
At that time, my friend and I also talked about how this kind of intangible cultural heritage is becoming less and less, because it is not profitable and fewer people are doing it😫.
Think about it, in this fast-paced era, there are too many things disappearing too quickly, and some of them you can’t stop. Maybe this is the trend!
Therefore, what we see in this sugar figurine blowing shop is just a small stall in front of the store, which is probably the owner's "side job".
The Ancient Culture Street is actually a street similar to the ancient style.
There are shops on both sides, and the things they sell are pretty much the same, nothing special.
I walked around and had a lot of food~
I recommend Zhangjiashuipu. My husband bought two kinds of drinks: pear juice and old-style milk tea. The pear juice was too hard to drink, but the old-style milk tea was really good.
There are all kinds of Tianjin specialty snacks on the ancient street. I bought some rice cake dipped in osmanthus syrup. It didn’t taste anything special, but it wasn’t bad either. You can buy a piece to try!
[Erduoyan Fried Cake] It's similar to the fried cakes in Jilin, but the color is different and there are more fillings. I bought one to try, and it tasted okay! There are several Erduoyan Fried Cakes on the Ancient Culture Street, and you have to queue up for them. There are a lot of people 🚶♀️🚶♂️
[Bengdou Zhang] I've seen this mentioned in various guides before. I bought some to try just for fun! It's all about beans, so people with weak teeth should be careful.

Tianjin Yang's Teahouse: Ancient Cultural Street Palace Square
Among the above delicacies, I didn’t find the Shitoumenkan vegetarian bun shop. I didn’t buy the Second Sister-in-law’s Jianbing Guozi because I had eaten Jianbing Guozi for breakfast yesterday. I saw many people queuing up to buy it. I basically looked at and tasted the others.
Ancient Culture Street, a national 5A-level scenic spot, is a cultural and artistic street, with uniquely designed shops along the way. In Tianjin, getting married in the afternoon is considered a second marriage. The plaques for the shoe shop, Lao Meihua, and the Tianjin Goubuli steamed buns are the only two plaques bestowed by the royal family in Tianjin. At the end of the Nine Rivers, Tianjin Wei, three floating bridges and two checkpoints. Tianjin's signature dish is the rice crust dish, Gabacai. In Tianjin dialect, "zou ***" is a favorite. How to choose a fried dough twist (mahua), especially a big belly twist (da du), with a lot of filling. Gui Shunzhai Pastry Shop is a popular snack shop for tourists. Tianjin has a rich variety of snacks.

Visiting here on the weekend, it was quite deserted. The surrounding roads were under renovation, and many shopping malls were closed. While Jinmen Hometown is a popular tourist attraction during the Qingming Festival, Tianjin locals are generally quite ordinary. The main north-south street is quite busy, but the streets on either side are much quieter, with only a few customers. Traditional snacks like Erduoyan fried cakes and various Jianbing fruit stalls had long lines, and the taste was quite disappointing. Overall, the Ancient Culture Street is small and has a strong commercial atmosphere.
Located outside the East Gate in the northeast corner of Nankai District, Tianjin, on the west bank of the Haihe River, Tianjin Ancient Culture Street is a pedestrian-only commercial street and a national AAAAA-level tourist attraction. As one of Tianjin's ten scenic spots, Tianjin Ancient Culture Street has always adhered to its unique business characteristics of "Chinese flavor, Tianjin flavor, cultural flavor, and ancient flavor," focusing on cultural goods.
Ancient Culture Street boasts nearly a hundred shops. It's a hub for time-honored Tianjin shops and folk handicrafts, offering authentic local delicacies like Goubuli steamed buns, Erduoyan fried cakes, Jianbing Guozi (rice cakes), Lao Zhai medicinal candies, Zhangjia Shuipu (water shop), and Tianjin Mahua (fried dough twists). Tourist attractions include Tianhou Temple, the Himalayas, Qing Dynasty stamps and coins, and Zhang the Clay Figurine (a Chinese clay figurine) colored sculptures.
The Tianhou Temple within the street was built in 1326 by the Yuan Dynasty government to pray for safe navigation. During the Yuan Dynasty, grain shipped from the south to the north began by sea to Tianjin and then by river to Dadu (Beijing). The dock area, the transshipment point between the river and the sea, was located on the stretch of river adjacent to this street. After landing, the boatmen loved to shop, drink, relax, and burn incense in this street. The 23rd day of the third lunar month is the birthday of the "Queen of Heaven" goddess at the Tianhou Temple. Every year until the early years of liberation, this day was celebrated with grand events in the square in front of the temple.
Long before the founding of the People's Republic of China, this ancient commercial street had fallen into decline, becoming a crowded and dilapidated residential area. The construction of the Ancient Culture Street has breathed new life into it. Over a hundred shops sell items such as Yangliuqing New Year paintings and Zhang clay figurines, representative of Tianjin's local art, as well as the four treasures of the study, calligraphy and paintings by famous figures, and antiques. There are also tens of thousands of high-quality handicrafts from all over the country, including cloisonné, double-sided embroidery, ivory and jade carvings, artistic ceramics, Chinese and Western musical instruments, and gold and silver jewelry.
Ancient folk customs such as temple fairs and imperial fairs have also been revived. For example, on the 23rd day of the third lunar month, the square in front of the Tianhou Temple features performances of dragon lantern dances, lion dances, Shaolin hui, stilt walking, Dharma drums, land boats, yangge (a type of dance performed in a traditional Chinese style), martial arts, as well as Peking opera, Pingju opera, and Bangzi opera. The lively atmosphere continues to this day, attracting large numbers of tourists from China and abroad.

Authentic Tianjin delicacies include Goubuli steamed buns, Erduoyan fried cakes, Jianbingguozi (rice cakes), Lao Zhai medicinal candies, Zhangjia Shuipu (water shop), and Tianjin mahua (fried dough twists). Tourist attractions include Tianhou Temple, the Himalayas, Qing Dynasty stamps and coins, and Zhang's painted clay figurines.
There are three things that I value most: 1. The wood-carved version of Along the River During the Qingming Festival; 2. The two towering masts in the square with two golden balls on top; 3. The Mazu Temple (one of the three Mazu temples in the world).
The Ancient Culture Street has a strong flavor of old Tianjin, with time-honored shops like Goubuli steamed buns, Erduoyan fried cakes, Shibajie fried dough twists, etc. Of course, it also has a strong commercial flavor. There was a long line for Erduoyan fried cakes, but I didn't try them. After walking through many ancient cities, ancient streets, and ancient towns, you will find that many shops are similar.
The Clay Figurine Zhang shop is well worth a visit to admire the traditional craftsmanship. The various colored sculptures are priced at a variety of prices, ranging from tens to hundreds. Those with names on them are likely made by masters, and some cost thousands. The most expensive, a Baochai statue, costs over 20,000 yuan, but it's truly beautiful! (Photography is not allowed inside the shop.) Later, I bought a little girl in green Hanfu and took it home, which I also loved.
Tianjin Ancient Culture Street, centered around the Tianhou Temple, is home to Tianjin's renowned time-honored brands and handicraft shops. The street boasts numerous time-honored Tianjin shops, offering a chance to savor Tianjin's unique cuisine. A stroll through the street reveals the impressive prestige of the Zhang family in Tianjin. The familiar "Zhang" character is ubiquitous: clay figurine Zhang, shadow puppet Zhang, bean-blowing Zhang, and Zhang-style sugar figurines.
Tianjin Ancient Culture Street, located outside the East Gate in the northeast corner of Nankai District, on the west bank of the Haihe River, is one of Tianjin's ten most famous attractions. It's easily accessible via Metro Line 2 or the bus.
Attractions: Ancient buildings and the Ancient Culture Street, centered around the Tianhou Temple, are styled after Qing Dynasty folk architecture. Two painted memorial archways stand to the north and south, each inscribed with "Hometown of Tianjin" and "Gushang Art Garden." Strolling along the ancient street, you can admire a variety of ancient buildings and traditional carvings.
Special snacks: In the Ancient Culture Street, you can taste a variety of Tianjin special snacks, such as Shibajie Mahua (fried dough twists), Goubuli steamed buns, and Erduoyan fried cakes. In addition, there are also traditional foods such as Guoren Zhang (nut cakes), Bengdou Zhang (bean cakes), and cooked pear cakes to indulge your taste buds.
Handicrafts: There are many handicrafts gathered here, such as Yangliuqing New Year paintings, Zhang clay figurines, Wei kites, etc. You can pick up some unique souvenirs here to take home as gifts or for your own collection.

There are two Clay Figurine Zhang shops on this street. The first one sells small items that give it a Yiwu feel, while the second one has a more traditional feel and is well worth a visit. I saw a lot of stamps I used to collect in the stamp shop. I used to buy them in these shops when I was a kid, but now I have to order them online.

Tourist attractions include the Tianhou Temple, "Fengzheng Wei" kites, and the clay figurine Zhang (a type of clay figurine) sculptures.
One kilometer east of the Drum Tower is the Ancient Culture Street of Tianjin, where I visited two years ago. Simply put, every city has an ancient street like this, ordinary and tacky.
However, there are two truly special places here: the Mingliu Teahouse and Clay Figurine Zhang. Let's not talk about the Mingliu Teahouse, but the beauty of Clay Figurine Zhang's clay sculptures cannot be appreciated without close inspection. The masterpieces, priced in the hundreds of thousands, have already been sold out, truly exquisite. As for the more modest pieces, priced in the tens or hundreds, they're perfect for home collections or gifts.
Tianjin Ancient Culture Street, located outside the East Gate in the northeast corner of Nankai District, on the west bank of the Haihe River, is a commercial pedestrian street. Opened on New Year's Day 1986, it is China's only five-star tourist pedestrian street and one of Tianjin's Ten Scenic Spots. Tianjin Ancient Culture Street has always adhered to the business characteristics of "Chinese flavor, Tianjin flavor, cultural flavor, and ancient flavor," focusing on cultural goods. At the north and south intersections of Tianjin Ancient Culture Street, there are memorial archways inscribed with "Hometown of Tianjin" and "Gushang Art Garden." The restored section of the Ancient Culture Street includes the Tianhou Temple and Gongnan and Gongbei Streets.
Every city has a world-famous ancient street, and Tianjin's is the Ancient Culture Street Scenic Area, which is not only one of the ten scenic spots in Tianjin, but also a national 5A-level scenic area. I really like this place. Although it is always crowded, I can't resist the temptation of various snacks, specialties, and handicrafts. Let's talk about the Ancient Culture Street:
1. This is an antique commercial street, so please don't be mistaken. We recommend taking bus No. 52 and getting off at Huanghe Road Station or No. 856 and getting off at Dongma Road Station. The starting price for taxis in Tianjin is 8 yuan, and the fare in the city is not too high.
2. Many people say that the Ancient Culture Street is open all day, but I disagree because shops only open for business around 8:00 in the morning and start closing around 5:00 or 6:00 in the evening. Please don't miss the opportunity.
3. The entire scenic area has many unique attractions, including Tianhou Temple, Jade Emperor Pavilion, Mazu Cultural Square, Old Theater, Official Bank, Celebrity Teahouse, Clay Figurine Zhang, Guoren Zhang, Qing Dynasty Postal Coins, etc. It takes about 2 hours to visit all of them.
4. The merchandise sold on the Ancient Culture Street can be broadly divided into three categories: cultural relics, antiques, and antique furniture; traditional folk goods such as puppet shows, Zhang the Clay Figurine's colored sculptures, Yangliuqing New Year paintings, and kites; and restaurants, tea houses, eateries, and entertainment venues. Choose your own style and find what you like.
5. Every year on the 23rd day of the third lunar month, the birthday of the goddess, a "Royal Meeting" is held in the Ancient Culture Street. There will be performances of dragon lantern dance, lion dance, Shaolin temple, stilt walking, Dharma drum, land boat, ground yangge, martial arts, as well as Peking opera, Pingju opera, Bangzi opera, etc. The event is very lively.
6. A temple fair will be held on the 15th day of the first lunar month, and all lanterns will be lit. Roads will be temporarily closed during this time, so please pay attention to official announcements.

A free 5A-level scenic spot with ancient charm and fragrance
A commercial pedestrian street in Tianjin that houses the largest number of time-honored shops and folk handicraft shops.
It's a place to buy and exchange things, it's a bit market-like, you can come and have a look
Maybe the way I play it is not right, other bloggers have written a lot of blah blah.
It’s really not that interesting to visit the Ancient Culture Street alone.
The name is very impressive, and they all lead tour groups shopping.
The food is just so-so. Collectibles? Food and drink? I really don't understand.
It is a concentration of Tianjin's time-honored shops and folk handicraft shops.
Snacks, crosstalk, handicrafts, etc.
This place is worth a visit, it is a must-see place in Tianjin! Clay figurine Zhang and Tianhou Temple are both inside.
Showcase Tianjin culture and Chinese culture, walk around, look around and have fun.
【Xingnan Diary】
🎡I have been to Tianjin many times, and this is my first time strolling around the Ancient Culture Street, which is also a 5A-level scenic spot and one of the must-visit places.
🎡There are several branch roads, and the architectural style of the shops is red pillars and gray tiles, which is ancient and quaint. It is the typical "ancient" business style. There are also large shops, plaques and gatehouses on the main street. The whole street is very tasteful.
🎡There are also many small shops selling local specialties, such as clay figurines, cooked pear cakes, and pancakes. Unexpectedly, I even ran into the "Yang Guang Crosstalk Society" on the roadside. They are the Yang Guang, the son of Yang Shaohua, from the "Yang Guang Happy Life" that I watched as a child~
I'd like to focus on the hometown of Tianjin. I've been there twice and I love it. I ate Goubuli steamed buns, Shibajie fried dough twists, and even bought a clay figurine from Zhang.
Tianjin's iconic attractions, the birthplace of folk customs!!!
The New Year is lively, with a street full of snacks, special teas, and lanterns.
Walking into the Cultural Street, the rich Tianjin culture comes into view. There are people selling pancakes, playing chess and drinking tea, and artists making sugar figures all along the way.
Tianjin Ancient Culture Street Tourist Area has an antique city selling various jades and ancient coins, the famous Zhang the Clay Figurine artist and Yangliuqing New Year paintings, the Tianhou Temple and Tianhou statues that are revered in coastal cities, and a statue of Yan Fu that has been polished to a shine.
Ancient Culture Street, also known as the Hometown of Tianjin, is a shopping destination that combines time-honored Tianjin brands, a wide variety of snacks, handicrafts, and even a crosstalk studio. The street boasts many time-honored Tianjin shops with a strong local flavor, including Nut Zhang, Candy Zhang, Bean Spreading Zhang, Clay Figurine Zhang, and Kites Wei.
The Ancient Culture Street is not crowded this season, similar to other cultural festivals across the country. It's still worth a visit.
Tianjin Ancient Culture Street is a gathering place for Tianjin's time-honored folk handicrafts. It is a commercial pedestrian street similar to the folk art of the Qing Dynasty. It is the earliest cultural, commercial and religious gathering place in Tianjin. Tianjin Ancient Culture Street has a variety of Tianjin specialty foods and shops, which tourists come to visit. Free admission
At 10 o'clock in the morning, I walked to the Ancient Culture Street. At first, I didn't want to go there, but then I saw that it was still too early, so I just squeezed in slowly.
There are many traditional Tianjin snacks that I haven't tried, such as Erduoyan fried cakes and Bengdouzhang. I'm not very interested in them.
What’s a pity is that I didn’t go to listen to the crosstalk, haha, I’ll keep it in my mind next time I go.
There are various kinds of shadow puppets.
They are all Tianjin time-honored brands and delicacies, but I really think they are all replica stores. I guess Tianjin locals will not come here.
In fact, I feel it is similar to Shanghai's Yu Garden, with shops and a strong commercial atmosphere.
There are a lot of gadgets, it is recommended to take a look.
A street with very ethnic characteristics and various folk crafts.
Tianjin's 5A scenic spot is ancient and has many things that are unique to Tianjin.
Ancient Culture Street is a commercial pedestrian street in Nankai District, Tianjin, China, consisting of small shops modeled after those of the Qing Dynasty. Originally centered around Tianjin Tianhou Temple, it stretches from Tongbei Road in the north to Shuige Street in the south, with a total length of 687 meters and a width of 5 meters.
Basically, it's the same as the old streets all over the country, where you can buy local specialties, try local specialties, and see the old craftsmanship. I drank a bowl of tea, which tasted good, but a little sweet for me.
There are chain streets all over China, such as Shanghai's Chenghuang Temple, Nanjing's Confucius Temple, and Guilin's Yangren Street...
There is not much cultural content to see or play in the Ancient Culture Street
Only small shops for buying things
Tianjin is probably the only famous place with ancient charm.
Tianjin's Ancient Culture Street and Chaozhou's Archway Street are similar in style.
Compare Nanluo in Beijing and Jinli in Chengdu and you will know what kind of place this is. Overall it's okay.
It is called an ancient cultural street. To be honest, it is just a snack tourist street. There is no big difference from tourist streets in other places. They are all gathering places for special snacks and souvenirs. Of course, they are also consumption places specially prepared for tourists.
I don't know how it got the 5A rating. It's neither ancient nor modern, completely commercialized, and has no fun at all.
There were a few food stalls, but not many. I was quite impressed. One stall was selling pancakes for 12 yuan a set, and they were saying you wouldn't regret trying them, they were definitely delicious. However, I had already lost touch with Tianjin pancakes, so I didn't try them. Seeing that the skewers shop was quite crowded, I bought a handful of duck intestines for 15 yuan and a large squid for 20 yuan. The duck intestines were covered in cumin and chili powder. What the hell? After eating the squid, I thought the duck intestines were quite good; at least they were okay if you savored them carefully. As expected, places like this sell food, so everyone buys a little bit, and a little is enough.
The words "Jinmen Guli" (hometown of Tianjin) are a familiar memory for most people when they think of Tianjin. This plaque, frequently seen in tourist photos, is located on Ancient Culture Street. The "Jinmen Guli" archway to the south and the "Gushang Yiyuan" archway to the north are both popular photo spots. The street is home to many time-honored Tianjin shops, rich in traditional Chinese culture. Visitors can enjoy Tianjin-inspired folk art, such as the clay figurine artist Zhang and Yangliuqing New Year paintings.
Tianjin Ancient Culture Street is suitable for leisurely strolls, but it seems that the stalls close very early, at 6 o'clock.
There's nothing delicious about it, but it's just a rip-off. Not only are the prices high, but the food is also terrible! Of course, the Erduoyan fried cakes are pretty good, but there are three types of Tianjin people you meet on the street, and their quality is incredibly poor.
I don't know why it can be 5a la la la la la la la
There is actually nothing interesting to visit in the Ancient Culture Street
The main reason I came here was because of "Clay Figure Zhang"
But I haven't come to see "Clay Figure Zhang" for many years.
I am so disappointed!
Ancient Culture Street is worth visiting when you come to Tianjin.
Experience the Tianjin characteristics of Clay Figurine Zhang, Zhang Xiaoquan, and Yangliuqing
I recommend You Yidao soft cake, which is warm, delicious and purely handmade.
Ancient Culture Street is a national 5A-level tourist attraction and a renowned Chinese shopping street (much like Chengdu's Kuanzhai Alley and Chongqing's Ciqikou). I entered through the Jinmen Hometown Archway. Next to the archway are the "Shibajie Mahua" (Fried Dough Twist) shop and the sales department of the "Huiming Picture Frame Factory." Both buildings have a distinctly Jin-style architecture, and the shop signs are adorned with banners from the second floor, giving them a somewhat street-style atmosphere.
As I was walking, I saw the "Tianmen Cai's Gongshan" shop. Oh my god! Although I already knew that this shop was located on the Ancient Culture Street from reading Wang Han's book "Taste", the moment I saw it, I was still so excited that I was speechless! !
The book mentions that during the Qing Dynasty, Cai's feather dusters were tributes to the imperial palace and were used by Empress Dowager Cixi. The materials used in the shop's tribute dusters may appear simple, but they are actually very fine, made entirely of feathers from under the rooster's neck and in front of its wings, giving them a lustrous and spiritual quality.
This is a tourist attraction I like very much. The buildings are ancient and charming. There are small shops in the scenic spot. I bought fried dough twists, ate ear-shaped fried cakes, and also had boiled tripe, sour plum juice, crab roe soup dumplings, etc.
Tianjin Ancient Culture Street, one of the Ten Scenic Spots of Tianjin and a 5A rated street, primarily sells cultural goods, with nearly a hundred shops. Representative Tianjin shops like Zhang's Clay Figurines and Yangliuqing Painting are among the best, with their prices also being high. The snuff culture also attracts many visitors.
It is a commercial street. The Shibazi Mahua (Fried Dough Twists) are delicious and you can buy some as souvenirs.
I eat a lot, and I can finish it in 20 minutes.
Hahaha, they all belong to the Zhang family, but I am proud of my little friend (surname Zhang). It’s nice to just walk around and see some local specialties.
It still has that "Tianjin" feeling, but I didn't explore it in detail.
There's really nothing worth buying in the Ancient Culture Street, but it's okay to go there for sightseeing.
Tianjin's ancient town has everything...
Antique, worked in Tianjin for a short time
Ancient Culture Street is a must-see in Tianjin. It's essentially a shopping street, and it's quite lively. Almost every city has one. There are quite a few time-honored shops here, as well as a wide selection of local snacks. I think this was my second time here, but I bought my local specialties from various time-honored specialty stores instead of here. The whole street is very lively and bustling, and it's definitely worth a visit in Tianjin!
Here you can feel that Tianjin not only has the Shanghai culture since its opening as a port, but also has China's own cultural heritage.
As an antique street scenic spot, it is average, not too big. There are some small items with Tianjin characteristics in it, which are not very expensive and worth a look.
A pedestrian street that's heavily commercialized. I only managed to eat a basket of fake Goubuli steamed buns because I was so hungry. They were terrible and incredibly expensive. If you're looking for souvenirs for friends and family, I recommend buying them on Taobao, as they're a real rip-off. I'm not particularly interested in this kind of pedestrian street; honestly, they're all the same all over the country, and the things they sell are all the same.
I recommend you to visit this place at night, the night view is very beautiful
It's a fun place with snacks, paintings, and antiques. The whole street is full of old-fashioned charm, and it's packed with people. We saw a lot of people buying fried tripe, so we bought one, and it was incredibly awful. It was basically just the same thousand-layer tripe we use for hot pot, simmered in warm water with some kind of sauce, and it was tasteless and completely unappetizing.
