Xikai Cathedral of the Catholic Diocese of Tianjin

The largest Catholic church in Tianjin, it is also the cathedral of the Catholic Diocese of Tianjin. It is a typical Baroque-style building.
The overall building is in the shape of a Chinese character "品". The building is built with yellow and red bricks, with an emerald green dome-shaped spire on top and semicircular arched windows under the eaves.
The church holds religious activities every morning, and on Sundays and Catholic holidays, there are religious activities in the morning and evening.
Walking out of Xikai Church, you will find the International Style Street, dotted with cafes and western restaurants of all sizes, which has a very petty bourgeoisie feel.

Xikai Church was built in the fifth year of the Republic of China (1916 AD) under the supervision of French missionary Paul Du. It has a construction area of 1,891.95 square meters and can accommodate 1,500 people at the same time. Its floor plan is cross-shaped.

I particularly like the paintings on the stained glass windows in churches. Regardless of whether I understand the meaning of the descriptions above, just looking at the use of colors and the smoothness of lines is enough to make people stop and linger.

I once spent months painting church stained glass windows specifically for this purpose. I loved using different colored pencils to decorate each holy mural.

The dome inside the church is majestic, yet the colors are soft and gentle. Upon arriving here, a sense of peace reigns, leaving behind all thoughts of emotional entanglement and the importance of money.

Xikai Church is a Catholic denomination.

Because my mother and father are both Christians, I contributed one to the charity box, wishing them good health, as a token of my love as a child❤.

Built by French missionaries in 1913, Tianjin Xikai Catholic Church embodies the aesthetics of a Western Catholic church. Four prominent Catholic missionaries who came to China in the 16th and 17th centuries stand at the entrance. Inside, statues of the Virgin Mary, Jesus, and his 12 Apostles are displayed. Oil paintings depict the Passion of Jesus, including a replica of Leonardo da Vinci's world-famous The Last Supper. Stained glass depicts Jesus' salvation. The altar, organ, and prayer room are all in the style of Western Catholic churches. The church boasts high artistic value.

I think Xikai Church is worth a visit. Xikai Church has a good location, near the Yingkou Road subway station. You can walk to the subway station 🚇 and visit the church ⛪. There are teachers worshiping and praying inside.

The choir only comes to sing on Sundays. Christians believe in Jesus and have eternal life. The key is whether you believe in Christianity. If you don’t have this belief, it doesn’t matter. You can appreciate the architectural style of the church and sit on the benches inside. The visitors are very conscientious. Apart from appreciating and taking pictures 📷, there is no talking, no noise, and no discussion. Everyone is very well-mannered. Of course, if you have this belief, you can join the church.

👉 Tips:

1. When visiting a church, you must dress appropriately. You are not allowed to be shirtless or wear slippers.

2. During Christmas, there will be traffic control around Xikai Church and the passage of motor vehicles will be restricted. You can take the bus or subway to get there.

Went to the famous [Xikai Church⛪]

This is probably the cutest church I have ever seen. Unlike ordinary churches with blue walls, the walls of this building are orange and white (it reminds me of a clown, so... a little cute).

After coming here, I realized that this church is not like most abandoned churches that can only be viewed, nor is it like a deserted church with few believers. It still has very strict religious activities and is popular.

When we came in, we found out that we were not allowed to wear hats🧢, nor pants above the knees👖 (the first two girls who came to visit in shorts were constantly being nagged by the believer’s grandmother)

Amen, please forgive me. I quickly admired the exquisite and magnificent interior structure and slipped away.

As a church lover, I always remember to visit a church wherever I go⛪.

Therefore, when you are in Tianjin, you must not miss the Xikai Church. It is only a few minutes walk from Joy City.

The architectural plan of Tianjin Xikai Church is in the shape of a Latin cross. Three giant domes, each 45 meters high, are arranged in a "品" shape. The three domes are slightly elongated upwards and covered with green copper plates. The giant domes are supported by wooden structures, and each dome has a bronze cross.

Xikai Cathedral is a Tianjin Municipal Cultural Relic Protection Unit and a Special Protection Level Historical Building. It is the largest Romanesque building in Tianjin and serves as the cathedral of the Catholic Diocese of Tianjin (it is the bishop's residence but does not have a bishop).

Xikai Church gives me a sense of simplicity, both inside and out. It does not have magnificent carvings and marble, but simply painted walls with elegant carvings, which makes people feel noble and elegant.

The floral pattern on the dome is not too complicated. I have visited many churches, and most of them gave me a heavy feeling, but the Xikai Church gave me a relaxed feeling.

Xikai Church, officially the Catholic Cathedral of the Diocese of Tianjin, also known as the Old Xikai Church and the French Church, was built in 1917. It is the largest Catholic church in urban Tianjin and serves as the cathedral of the Tianjin Diocese. It is located at No. 9 Xining Road in Heping District, at the southern end of Binjiang Road, Tianjin's most prosperous street. The church's doors and windows are semicircular arches, a typical feature of Western medieval architecture. They create a visual sense of infinite upward extension and reflect its unique religious significance. Inside, from the main entrance to the altar, two rows of 14 square columns support the roof, creating a three-aisled interior. The church's walls are constructed of red and white quarry bricks, creating an ornate yet elegant look. The exterior is dominated by stacked arches, consisting of circular windows and columned arches. The facade and gables lack embroidered windows, highlighting the church's formal style. Its architecture embodies the characteristics of Romanesque architecture, influenced by Byzantine architecture, a style still rare in China.

I've always had a soft spot for beautiful churches and mosques. Xikai Church, originally located on Dushan Road, Binjiang Avenue, Heping District, Tianjin, faces northeast from southwest. Its full name is the Catholic Xikai Cathedral, but it was later also known as the Xikai Church and the Old Xikai Church due to its location. Xikai Church was built in 1916 under the supervision of French missionary Paul-Marie Dumond (1864-1944). It has a floor area of 1,891.95 square meters and can accommodate 1,500 people at a time. The entrance of Xikai Church in the downtown area faces a very busy commercial pedestrian street. The entire entrance is filled with carts selling everything from hand-pulled pancakes to pancakes, giving it a slightly dirty and messy feel.

The church itself is solemn and elegant, and the interior is beautiful, but a special reminder: if you want to go forward to appreciate the sculptures inside, you must dress below the knees and without exposing your shoulders, otherwise the staff will remind you that you cannot go forward.

I went here on April 1st. I didn't know it was Easter Sunday. I went here simply because it was close to Jingyuan.

When I arrived, there were so many people that the road was completely blocked. Traffic police were directing traffic. This scene scared me. God knows what was going on here, so I hurried in to take a look.

I learned it was Easter Sunday, so since I was there, I decided to celebrate as well. However, taking photos was a big problem. As soon as I pulled out my phone, a bunch of people were staring at me. I had to hide and dodge to get three photos...

This church is indeed magnificent, with a splendid appearance and rich colors, and is truly different from other churches.

Xikai Church's architectural plan follows the shape of a Latin cross, with three massive 45-meter-high domes arranged in a "品" (a Chinese character for "品") formation. Each dome is slightly elongated and covered in green copper panels. Supported by a wooden structure, each dome bears a bronze cross. Xikai Church is the largest Romanesque building in Tianjin and serves as the cathedral of the Catholic Diocese of Tianjin. It's a truly beautiful church, both inside and out.

Get up early to experience a mass. The church is beautifully decorated, has a long history, and the staff are very nice. As a theist who does not believe in any religion, I hope everyone will come to the church to visit or sit for a while to feel it, instead of just taking pictures and leaving.

Located at the end of Binjiang Road, it is open to the public on weekdays. If you are lucky, you may even see a wedding being held during the day.

The first church I visited in my life was Xikai Church.

I finally understand why Westerners hold their weddings in churches.

While being solemn and dignified, it also reflects the loyalty and purity of love.

The glazed tiles in the church are very delicate, but there are many activities inside, so taking photos would not be very harmonious.

A very beautiful church. Xikai Church is the largest Romanesque building in Tianjin. I have seen churches in many places, but none of them are as beautiful as this one. It is also very large. You can take photos inside, but you must be quiet, quiet, and quiet.

You can take photos at Xikai Church as you like. The interior of the church is more exquisite and beautiful than the outside. If you come when there are fewer people, you can still take a lot of beautiful photos.

The church is located in a busy city, with a shopping mall right at the door. The environment around the church is not particularly good, and people are not allowed to sit in the seats inside the church.

Because there were so many people, I didn't feel the solemnity that I've experienced in churches before. I was quite satisfied because it was my first time to see the confessional that I had seen in movies. The decoration inside the church was also very beautiful, so many people took photos inside.

Xikai Church is located on the bustling Binjiang Road commercial street, which is a quiet place in the hustle and bustle. Amidst the high-rise buildings, this unique Romanesque architectural style still constitutes a harmonious beauty of classic and modern.

In the early morning, the sound of bells came from the church, melodious, distant, and somewhat warm, giving people an inexplicable sense of security.

Secular life makes people impetuous, with ups and downs in their hearts, but the only thing missing is peace.

Slowly walk into the church and immerse yourself in the silence, and you will feel your emotions fade away.

The church is quiet and peaceful. It has three corridors and the decoration is not gorgeous but exquisite and elegant.

It happened that a foreign priest was presiding over the mass. The church was brightly lit, and the congregants were worshiping devoutly and singing hymns in a solemn and dignified manner.

The walls are covered with vivid murals, and the sculptures and stained glass windows inside and outside the church are filled with exotic customs and religious mystique. Occasionally, a simple-dressed elderly person with a kind face will ask if you are here to pray or something else. Sometimes they will invite you to a seat and explain a story from the Bible.

In late summer, in this quiet church, scriptures are recited softly, and sunlight shines through the glass, healing the soul and removing the glitz, awakening the softest part of the heart.

By Lazy Fish |

My only impression of this church is that the exterior features a striped architectural style I love (I'm just making this up). Inside, I don't think it's as grand as the Qingdao Catholic Church. In comparison, the interior of Xikai Church has a minimalist and refreshing color scheme, creating an inexplicable sense of deep tranquility upon entering. This is perhaps the kind of yearning that churches are supposed to evoke in their faithful. Next to the church, there's a statue of the Virgin Mary, surrounded by many plants, which is the only spot suitable for photos.

As a tourist attraction, the church is quite impressive. There were many people preaching outside. Apparently, you can enter and visit freely before 5:00 PM, and there were some people praying. The interior of the church is quite impressive, and there was a devout man telling the story of the Son of God. It was a little too devout, though. My friend and I were a little taken aback.

Admission is free! For some reason, I love visiting churches, the decorative murals and the chandeliers on the roof. Sitting there and just being in a daze makes me feel a little relieved.

This is a magnificent and beautiful place, it would be a great place to hold a wedding...

It took about half an hour to see the church.

The church is free to visit. The main entrance is usually not open. Enter through the side door on the left. The church is right after you enter. Notice: This is a religious place. Do not fall in love.

The interior of the church is solemn, quiet and sacred, with many religious paintings and statues of saints. There are few visitors when there are no religious activities such as mass. You can take a quiet rest here, read the small preaching notebook on the seat, and feel the power of faith.

There were a lot of people in the church, so I could only take a quick look and appreciate the architecture.

I've heard of paranormal activity here. Legend has it that during the Republican era, a German godfather with a strange appearance bought children from poor families and used their fat to make soap. Later, the sound of children crying would often be heard in the church at night.

It's divided into two buildings: the office building and the church. Why do I need to emphasize this? Because I was curious and went to the office building, but the old man from Tianjin who was guarding the building called me "Mani." It was my first time in a church, and it was quite impressive from inside. You can't eat or drink in the church, and you can't make noise. You have to behave politely.
