The Zhang Xueliang Former Residence Museum, also known as the Young Marshal's Mansion, was Zhang's residence during the 1920s and 1930s. The building is luxurious, beautiful, and elegant, predominantly in Western Baroque style. The rooms are meticulously furnished, and the stairs, floors, doors, and windows are all crafted from Filipino wood.
After more than two years of renovation, Zhang Xueliang's former residence has been restored to its original state. The music, decoration, clothing, furniture and characters here fully recreate the original life of the Zhang family in the French Concession in Tianjin.

Zhang Xueliang's former residence, a French-style villa, was where Zhang Xueliang and Zhao Yidi lived during their time in Tianjin. According to the aesthetics of the time, they were both considered handsome and beautiful. They met and fell in love in 1927. Zhao Yidi's parents forbade them from marrying, and Zhang Xueliang already had a wife, so they settled here. In January 1937, after the Xi'an Incident, Chiang Kai-shek placed Zhang Xueliang under house arrest, and Zhao Yidi accompanied him. After more than 20 years of bitter love, Zhang Xueliang and Zhao Yidi officially married on July 4, 1964. This seems to be one of the best-decorated Western-style buildings in Tianjin, with luxurious interiors, especially the impressive ballroom that occupies the entire third floor. The 50 yuan ticket makes it worth a visit, but the crowds on my visit prevented me from taking satisfactory photos, and I didn't know much about their romance, so I just took a quick look.
Located on No. 32 Road in the French Concession (now No. 78 Chifeng Road, Heping District)
The front building is a three-story building with a basement, while the rear building is a two-story building. The two buildings have a total of 42 rooms, with a construction area of 1,270.4 square meters. The total floor area is 1,401.65 square meters, and the total land area is 1.495 mu.
Besides the old house and furniture, there are many old photos of Zhang Xueliang, including some from after his house arrest, which are rarely seen. Through the explanations, I learned more about Zhang Xueliang's later life. The only downside is that the courtyard is a bit cramped, unlike Puyi's former residence, Jingyuan. However, the Hongjie Jianbing (pancakes) at the entrance are incredibly popular, with the line for the pancakes longer than the line for touring the old residence.
The Former Residence of Zhang Xueliang in Tianjin, also known as the Young Marshal's Mansion, is a French-style villa. It was the residence of Zhang Xueliang and Zhao Yidi during their time in Tianjin and serves as a witness to the acquaintance and love between Zhang Xueliang and Miss Zhao Si. (Zhao Yidi, originally named Qixia, also known as Miss Zhao Si, Zhao Si, and Zhao Xiangsheng.) Looking back over Tianjin's century-long history, Tianjin boasts over 3,000 distinctive buildings and over 800 former residences of famous figures. Among them, the Former Residence of Zhang Xueliang in Tianjin is a representative example of the former residences of famous figures in modern Chinese history. The "bee" badges worn by volunteer guides convey the rich history of Tianjin during the Republican era.
You can go and have a look, but there are very few things or traces used by Zhang Xueliang at that time. They are all old things that were picked up and later renovated and restored as much as possible. But this is not surprising, after all, this place was not protected from the beginning. It seems that the former residences of celebrities are all like this.
The Former Residence of Zhang Xueliang, the residence of the renowned historical figure Zhang Xueliang during his time in Tianjin, is located in the heart of Tianjin's Heping District. This area, once the French Concession, is home to many small Western-style buildings that blend Eastern and Western styles. The elegant neighborhood is remarkably elegant, and Zhang Xueliang's Former Residence exemplifies this elegance and luxury.

When I walked through that door, it was as if I had walked into another world, a world that belonged only to them. The furniture in the house, the decorations, the piano, the tableware, the stage, the spirit of the people, the luxury of the things, all revealed their thoughts and their preferences.

I came to visit Zhang Xueliang’s old residence on the third day of the Spring Festival in 2019. There were so many people. It seemed that everyone wanted to see the Young Marshal and Miss Zhao Si. The tour here is free, give it a thumbs up!
Came here on the first day of the Lunar New Year, the little sister explained it very well
Everything feels very refined, and that kind of thoughtful design is hard to find today.
Well preserved, worth a visit. Dance hall gambling or something haha
The classic perfectly restores the scene of the past. Every table and every piece of wood can show the old style of the past, which reminds people of General Zhang Xueliang's vigor and vitality and the happy time with Miss Zhao Si. The heating is very warm and the bathroom is also very good. Not bad
The study is beautiful with light coming through on all four sides. The ballroom on the third floor gives you a glimpse into the life of the time, with every light revealing the flavor of the Republic of China era. The balcony door reveals the sense of time.

A three-story house consisting of a study, dining room, living room, bedroom and dance hall.
The porcelain house is just ahead. I didn't go in to see anything, but I looked outside.
No. 78 Chifeng Road, Heping District, has two buildings, both made of brick and wood, built in 1926. Zhang Xueliang lived here when he came to Tianjin from the 1920s to the 1930s.
A romantic love story, where the century marriage begins

The Marshal's Mansion is well preserved and has free explanations. It is worth a visit if you have free time.
Perhaps due to its poor preservation, the building I saw before me looked quite different from what I'd imagined. Squeezed between two modern buildings, I couldn't capture the entire structure from several angles. Because it's located right next to the popular Porcelain House, it was packed during National Day. Free guided tours were offered every 15 minutes at the entrance. I waited a while to catch the next group, but the guide's frequent pauses completely soured my impression of the place. I quickly snapped a few photos of the Republican-era wall lamps and chandeliers before leaving.
Compared to the quiet and well-managed Jingyuan, the former residence of the young marshal is not worth a visit...
Near Tianjin Fifth Avenue, on Shandong Road, it's difficult to park on the roadside, so it's recommended to ride a bike. A particularly conspicuous building.
I've visited many of Zhang Xueliang's residences. This one is slightly smaller than the one in Shenyang. The rooms aren't large, but they're all very compactly furnished. It seems the young marshal was quite socializing in the Tianjin concession! It has three floors, with a ballroom on the top.
It's a very historical building. I like the romantic story of Zhang Xueliang and Miss Zhao Si, so I came here because of its reputation!
This is my third time here. Come and see the four most handsome men in the Republic of China. Hahaha
The environment is particularly magnificent. After arriving, the guide patiently explained that you can appreciate Zhang Xueliang's heroic deeds! !
I saw the study and dance hall of Zhang Xueliang and Miss Zhao Si.
The young marshal's reception room, the western-style restaurant. The young marshal met the fourth lady and spent time together. The Baroque-style building, the ivory piano, etc.
Zhang Xueliang's former residence can be said to be very touching, full of the style of the Republic of China, all the old things with historical stories, I like the style of the former residence, appreciate the temperament of the young marshal, and the explanation of the young lady is also great, I like it☺️
Zhang Xueliang's former residence is worth visiting, especially for college students like us, who can better understand history. The decoration inside is very exquisite and worth seeing.
Personally, I think it's worth coming here, it's very meaningful~ There are also free explanations.
Very beautiful building with historical significance, very close to the Porcelain House, with free explanations
Sitting on the balcony where Miss Zhao Si and the Young Marshal once rested, I'm overwhelmed with emotion. Time flies, and beauty is hard to find again. Years of confinement—it's hard to imagine the suffering this delicate woman endured. I admire the Young Marshal's courage. His friendship with Master Zhang Daqian is also commendable. In this memorial hall, I see antiques from that era and scenes from upper-class life. The multiple guided tours within the site are excellent.
The first floor lobby stretches out to the ground floor, filled with exquisite collectibles. To the right is the Western-style restaurant and reception hall. Imported Western furniture and accessories embody exquisite luxury down to the smallest detail.
There will be free explanations when you come in, which are very detailed. The furnishings are all from a hundred years ago and are worth seeing!
Mr. Zhang Xueliang's former residence, near the site of the former Italian barracks, boasts a European-style villa with a sculpture of him at the entrance. Inside, Mr. Zhang's daily necessities are preserved, including a bed, table, chairs, and other furniture, all perfectly arranged. Particularly striking is the room's rectangular window, through which sunlight streams, creating a sense of time frozen in the quiet.
