Namtso

The third largest saltwater lake in my country, the highest saltwater lake in the world, and a holy place in the eyes of pilgrims.
The five islands in the lake are said to be the incarnations of the Five Buddhas and are considered sacred places that must be visited by believers from ancient times to the present.
Every year when the Tibetan calendar reaches the Year of the Goat, the Buddhas, Bodhisattvas, and Dharma-Karma gods will set up altars and hold ceremonies at Namtso Lake, and believers will go to Namtso Lake to circumambulate the lake.

Nam Co is the second largest saltwater lake in China. The lake is 4,718 meters above sea level, and is roughly rectangular in shape, more than 70 kilometers long from east to west, more than 30 kilometers wide from north to south, and covers an area of more than 1,920 square kilometers. Re-measurements of the lake in the past two years have found that the deepest part of Nam Co exceeds 120 meters. With a water storage capacity of 76.8 billion cubic meters, it is the largest lake with the highest altitude in the world.

I came to Namtso in May. Although the lake surface had not melted, I was able to take pictures of Namtso with ripples on the lake surface and heavy snow. In the distance, there were white clouds and snow-capped mountains, with an ice and snow lake in the middle ground, and the blue sky above and below. The scenery was vast and quiet, and the picture was elegant and clean.

Namtso will not be completely melted until mid-May, but there is only one road from Lhasa to Namtso, and there will be traffic jams. We were stuck in traffic for 1.5 hours. It normally takes 6 hours to travel from Lhasa to Namtso.

In May and June, the holy lake is still covered with white ice and snow near the shore, which forms a sharp contrast with the blue color of the lake itself. The blue sky and white clouds, the blue lake and the white ice and snow, on this vast Qinghai-Tibet Plateau, in the vast world, in the hearts of every believer and traveler, Namtso is pure without a trace of impurities.

At this moment, time and space seem to be frozen

At this moment, the soul will be purified

The Mani piles made of Mani stones on the shore of Namtso Lake are also a major landscape of the holy lake. Over the years, the Mani piles piled up by believers have become like pyramids, which, together with the fluttering prayer flags, blend in with the desolate nature of the snowy plateau.

Before leaving Namtso, my companions and I posed in various ways, as if all souls had returned to their most innocent appearance, enjoying our last time at this holy lake.

Namtso is Tibetan, and its Mongolian name is Tengger Sea, both of which mean Heavenly Lake. Namtso is one of the three sacred lakes in Tibet. It is the second largest lake in Tibet and the third largest saltwater lake in China.

I went there at the end of April. It should have just been opened. The temperature was still very low. The lake had not melted yet. The altitude was more than 4,700 meters, slightly lower than the Everest Base Camp. The altitude reaction was slightly better. There were electric blankets in the accommodation, so I slept quite comfortably. It snowed at night, but the weather was pretty good the next morning. The sunrise was still very beautiful! Worth the trip! 😍😍😍

Namtso is the most beautiful lake I have ever seen, so much so that when I went to Qinghai Lake, I thought the scenery was average. Riding yaks and watching the scenery here is really beautiful. It would be great if I could stay in Namtso for a night. It feels like all the beautiful scenery in Tibet is in Namtso, and Namtso is even more beautiful in winter, with layers of ice.

Only when we arrived at the lake did we understand the meaning of Namtso's "Heavenly Lake". The sun was shining brightly, the wind was gentle and the sun was warm. The snowfields by the lake were dazzlingly white. The Nyainqentanglha Mountains on the opposite bank, which were covered with snow all year round, stretched like a painting, and the water of Namtso was so clear and blue that people could not help but be absorbed in it. It was as if the blue sky above the mountains had fallen to this snowy plateau and turned into a lake. The lake was filled with flocks of leisurely water birds. Such a beautiful scene made people hold their breath and unable to blink. It took me a long time to come back to my senses before I had time to take a closer look at the legendary Zaxi Peninsula. I saw rugged peaks and rocks on the island, with occasional nests on the mountain walls. It was said that they were the residences of ascetics. The deep red walls of the Zaxi Temple built against the mountain blended harmoniously into the surroundings. Without the noisy tourists, the temple revealed some of its due tranquility and Zen.

By Love you forever |

The Namtso Snow Mountain and the lake in front of us are still covered with snow, and we have completely entered an ultimate world of ice and snow - the blue sky, snow-capped mountains and ice lakes complement each other. It is a magnificent, unforgettable, pure and beautiful white.

There were almost no tourists in this area except us. It was like a fairy tale world of ice and snow, with a completely different view, which was so fascinating. There was no noise of tourists, no sound of summer lake water hitting the shore, only the blue sky and the white lake surface set off each other, quiet and cold. The ice on the lake shore was crystal clear, without a trace of dust and impurities, only white and almost transparent reflections.

The south bank of Namtso Lake is a unique scenery, with lush grass and herds of cattle and sheep. Facing this blue lake, my heart can't help but be moved. Thinking of the touching story of the sacred mountain and holy lake, whose tears are these lake waters? For whom is the unchanging affection? How wonderful it would be if the feelings of the world could be as eternal as the sacred mountain and holy lake.

We set out for Namtso in the early morning, at -19 degrees Celsius, to appreciate a deserted Namtso, a Namtso with the moon hanging high and the sun slowly rendering the sky, a Namtso with darkness and light intertwined, a Namtso with a sense of déjà vu of the animal world, a Namtso so quiet that only the sounds of water, wind, and heart remain...

Namtso is a love story of blue and white, with a deep blue lake, a light blue sky, and the white Nyainqentanglha Mountains. There is a little halo, without a trace of mixed colors. It is a pure blue and white symphony. The snow-capped mountains are like ribbons, where the sea and the sky meet, absorbing the blue of both sides, and in its own unique way, it is independent and stubbornly guarding this holy place...

Be sure to pay attention when making a guide to Namtso! After the navigation leads to Namtso, it is still about an hour's drive from the lake, and the road is bumpy...

It is impossible to walk to the lake along the highway. If you want to get closer to the lake, you can only choose to pay to ride the herdsmen's horses or yaks. For friends who want to try it, this is actually a good experience. However, there must be those who don't want to try it. For those who don't want to try it, you can try to find the path that Nian Nian walked to the lake. Go back a section of the main road, and you can see a small road on the left, which can also be driven in. If you keep going forward, you can see a more concentrated place. There are mostly shops, selling souvenirs, restaurants, etc., and of course you can also park here. Once you find this place, you can naturally find the way to the lake, because the color of the lake is so obvious.

The lake water sometimes shimmers, the birds playing in the water, the light blue sky, and the white clouds in the distance that are dyed by the sky. They are all very ordinary and can be seen everywhere, but when put together, they are so beautiful that the more you look at them, the more comfortable you feel, and the more you look at them, the more reluctant you are to leave.

By Just want to travel |

Since we arrived very early, a large number of tourists were still on the way. The lakeside was very quiet, with only some local Tibetans coming from time to time to sell various Tibetan jewelry souvenirs. Looking up, the scenery is really surprisingly beautiful! The blue-green lake, the blue sky, and the white snow-capped mountains echo each other, which is beautiful! The main peak of Nianqing Tanggula Mountain, which is more than 7,000 meters above sea level and is covered with snow all year round, is now seen from its north side.

By Thunderbolt Little Bear |

Viewed from the Zaxi Peninsula, it seems no different from other lakes in Tibet.

The driver only gave us a little over an hour, how could that be enough...

The Nyainqentanglha Mountains in the distance are looming, and Namtso Lake is as blue as the sea.

For group tourists, an hour is indeed enough to take photos and check in by the lake.

For us, it is more like fulfilling a wish of our own. Thinking in this way, this trip of our friends is well worth it.

I was really amazed by the scenery of Namtso. At about five o'clock, the sun came out completely, and the lake was reflected so blue. The blue sky and white clouds were right above my head. I took a deep breath and felt the taste of the plateau. Hahaha. There are many duck-like creatures (cuter and more beautiful than ducks) floating on the water in the lake. From time to time, there are a few geese flying over. It is empty and quiet. The plateau lake is really beautiful. From a distance, the whole sky can be completely reflected in the lake. It is really indescribable. The sunset is really super beautiful, with a variety of colors constructed together, giving people a magical feeling. Some people are walking by the lake, some are taking pictures, and some are just sitting quietly on the shore. Simply appreciating the beautiful scenery in front of you is a kind of enjoyment and rare luxury. In Namtso, it is really easy to get altitude sickness. When taking pictures, everyone really slows down and doesn't need to rush.

By Tangmin™ |

We drove to the north bank of Namtso. To the east is the sacred Nyainqentanglha Mountain. Let me correct something. There has always been only Nyainqentanglha Mountain. Tanggula is a misunderstanding! Turning a corner, we saw the Sansheng Stone of Namtso. We parked the car on the side of the road and walked to the lake for a close encounter.

The lake water is crystal clear. You can see the rocks at the bottom of the lake from a distance. There is still unthawed ice and snow on the shore. The lake water is also strangely blue. This kind of charming blue lake water... is worthy of being one of the three holy lakes. Can I say that this is the purest water in the world? Namtso for four people. So every time I am caught in the scenic spot and pushed forward by the crowd. I always think of the time we crossed these wastelands in the uninhabited secret land and spent alone with these lakes.

Although they are all cold colors, it is very comfortable to look at. Forget the previous Sailimu Lake. Such a scene is hard to replicate. It is rare to encounter it again that year. There are only four of us in the sight. It is another scene to observe Namtso from a high place. Amazing~~~ We have to drive a little further along the edge of Namtso Lake, and there is still unthawed ice on the lakeside. My memory instantly brought me back to the winter of 2012. That year, I stood on the Zaxi Peninsula and looked around Namtso, which was an endless expanse of ice. I said I would come again, and now I am here. Do you know what I have been through in these four years?

By Looking forward to Andy |

The Namtso Lake that the driver took me to was not the scenic area. The scenic area requires an entrance fee and is crowded. This place is on the northwest side of Namtso Lake. There was no one by the lake, so we could pose to our heart's content.

The surface of Namtso Lake is sky blue, the water is clear and transparent, and when the breeze blows, shallow ripples appear on the originally calm lake surface. Here, all your worries will be washed away by the water of the holy lake, allowing you to forget the troubles of the world.

The water of Namtso Lake basically comes from the meltwater of glaciers and snow on the Nyainqentanglha Mountains. These meltwaters are continuously injected into Namtso Lake through dozens of large and small rivers.

There are many Mani piles scattered around the Namtso Lake. Over the years, the Mani piles have gradually connected together to form a Mani wall that is hundreds of meters long and half a person's height.

By se7en |

The scenery here is also very beautiful, but remember to bring a coat. The temperature here is at least ten degrees lower than that in Lhasa, so it is still quite cold, and the wind is very strong.

Namtso is a pearl in Tibet, it is really beautiful. Under the background of sunshine and white clouds, Namtso in the distance is looming in the mountains. When you walk to the edge of Namtso Lake, the lake is bright and moving in the sun. You must drive there by yourself, the beautiful scenery along the way is too beautiful to be recorded with a camera!

Namtso is a place that can cleanse the soul.

By Ice without words/wx |

The endless Nyainqentanglha Snow Mountains, the boundless northern Tibetan grasslands, the colorful prayer flags fluttering in the wind, and the ripples on the lake are just like the pearl and jade dress worn by the goddess, so unrestrained, so confident, so brilliant, so gentle, and so charming.

Standing by the lake, the water under your feet is like waves at tide, rolling in wave after wave.

It is impossible to tell where the lake is and where the blue sky is.

It is a corner of the vast ocean from ancient times that was left to us by the Himalayan orogeny.

In Tibet, we may miss many sights because of weather, season, or fate, but Namtso will never let you down.

By Northwest Flowers |

Weather is very important and directly affects the viewing experience. Unfortunately, it was very windy when I went there, and the transparency was poor on cloudy days! However, I could still feel the tranquility, spaciousness, and detachment of the sky-blue lake reflecting the continuous snow-capped mountains.

By Follow me everywhere |

Namtso is the first sacred lake of the ancient Zhangzhung Buddhist Bon religion. Namtso is ranked first among the "three sacred lakes" in Tibet, the other two being Yamdrok Lake and Manasarovar Lake. Namtso, which means "Heavenly Lake" in Tibetan, is 4,718 meters above sea level. You have to walk slowly, and you must not run.

Usually, when we say we go to Namtso Scenic Area, we mean to go to Zhaxi Peninsula in the southeast corner of Namtso. The Shengxiang Tianmen we went to this time is on the north bank of Namtso.

By Growing children |

Namtso Ticket, 120 yuan

The tour lasts 2 hours.

The day tour from Lhasa takes exactly one day to go back and forth. There are also 2-day tours that stay overnight at Shengxiang Tianmen, but the altitude is over 4,700 meters, so those who suffer from altitude sickness at night should not try it.

It seems that all words of praise for the scenery in front of me are pale and superficial. Watching the clouds wandering around the top of the mountain, watching the breeze blowing ripples on the lake, watching the seabirds flying freely in the sky, this is a kind of spiritual enjoyment.

By Master Yipiao |

Namtso is one of the three holy lakes in Tibet, the second largest lake in Tibet, and the third largest saltwater lake in China. The lake surface is 4718 meters above sea level, with an area of about 1920km² and a circumference of 318 kilometers. It takes three days to go around the lake, and it feels as vast as the sea. The wind here is very strong in winter. The melting ice and snow water of Nyainqentanglha Mountain and natural rainfall make the water here abundant. The sky and the lake reflect each other, which is amazingly beautiful. Mountains and lakes are the protagonists of many romantic legends in Tibet. They always appear as a pair of infatuated lovers. Nyainqentanglha Mountain and Namtso are such a pair of lovers who love each other forever. When I really stood here, I felt that I was in heaven! The deep and shallow blue between the sky and the earth was almost drowning the handsome snow-capped peaks of Nyainqentanglha Mountain standing in the distance!

By Amy-Fish |

At this moment, seeing Namtso again is so stunning! The sapphire in front of me is the kind of enchanting blue, blue enough to penetrate into the bone marrow, blue enough to melt everything, blue enough to make people hallucinate~

By CZRtoad |

Even though I encountered a sudden heavy snowfall in Naggenla on the day I went to Namtso, and even though the weather was gloomy that afternoon, I still ran to the lakeside early the next morning, regardless of the driver's threats, before getting on the bus and leaving, and saw some magnificent scenery. The snow-capped background of the Nyainqentanglha Mountains, the waves of the lake rolling down to your feet like waves, and in the distance, when the morning sun was about to come out from the dark clouds, the entire row of snow-capped peaks of the Nyainqentanglha Mountains turned into a brilliant white gold color. It was magnificent! Although I was not lucky enough to appreciate the full beauty of Namtso, I was already very satisfied.

By Travel the World in the Sun |

Namtso Lake. The lake is so blue, so blue, and the color of blue is different from every angle. Snow-capped mountains in the distance, and natural grasslands nearby. Watching birds flying by the lake and clouds drifting away, I really want to go down to the lake, but I am afraid of defilement of its holiness. To go to Namtso, you can take a one-day tour. The tour guide will scare everyone to rent coats and buy oxygen cylinders in the car. You can bring one oxygen cylinder. I had to breathe oxygen to slow down when I passed the mountain pass. The place where I got off the bus is a bit far from the lake, and it is also more strenuous to walk there. No need for a coat, just wear more. In fact, taking a one-day tour, you don’t have much time to stay by the lake. It takes about half an hour to walk back and forth slowly. You have to go back after staying at the lake for 10 minutes.

Namtso is about 3-4 hours’ drive from Lhasa. You can take a day trip there.

By Recall |

Nyainqentanglha Mountain and Namtso Lake are a pair of lovers who depend on each other. Nyainqentanglha Mountain nestles beside Namtso Lake, and Namtso Lake gently nourishes Nyainqentanglha Mountain. It is a paradise on earth!

In July this year, I took my parents to Tibet by self-driving along 318 and exited from the Qinghai-Tibet line. The most beautiful scenic spot on the way was unparalleled (everyone agreed). On the same day, we rushed from Lhasa to Shengxiang Tianmen, and finally caught up with Shengxiang Tianmen to watch the sunset (the most beautiful sunset, unparalleled). At night, we watched the starry sky, the most beautiful starry sky, surpassing the countless Mingsha Mountain in Dunhuang. There are a few points to note: Shengxiang Tianmen must watch the sunset, and you must rush to the scenic spot before 9 o'clock; the road is super bad, and cars cannot enter; the scenic spot is currently under maintenance, and it is not easy to enter if you are not a tour group. If you have to say a lot of good things, I am the latter; fill up the gas and go in, there is no place to refuel on the road; the altitude is high, more than 4,800 meters, and at night there are only local tents to sleep in, 150 per bed, 8 people in a room; bring your own dry food, there is no place to sell food. The scenery is really beautiful. It is a great pity not to come to Namtso when traveling in Tibet.

Nam Co is the highest lake in the world, with a lake surface of 4,718 meters above sea level. It is the second largest lake in Tibet and the third largest saltwater lake in China, second only to Qinghai Lake and Selin Co.

Mapang Yumtso, Namtso and Yamdrok Yumtso are the three sacred lakes in Tibet. "Namtso" means "Heavenly Lake" and "Tso" means "lake" in Tibetan.

It takes about 3 hours to get from Lhasa to Namtso. You can go back and forth from Lhasa on the same day, but the time is a bit tight.

From Lhasa to Dangxiong, we take National Highway 109. The road condition is generally good. Some sections are under construction, but it does not affect traffic.

From Dangxiong to Namtso, after passing the service center and entering the Namtso scenic area, there is still about 50 kilometers of road. About half of the road is under major repairs. The staff at the service center also reminded that it is difficult for cars to drive on it.

The road becomes better after crossing the Naganla Pass, and you can see Namtso Lake after crossing the pass.

Nagenla Pass, with an altitude of 5190 meters, belongs to the Nyainqentanglha Mountains.

Follow the road all the way to the lake, which is on a peninsula by the lake, where you can enjoy the beautiful holy lake and the nearby Nianqentanglha Snow Mountain.

Thanks to the large area of Tonhamu Lake, we saw the lake soon after entering the gate, although it was far from the destination. But the road condition was really bad, too bad, too bad! I have to say it three times!

The car was bumpy all the way and I felt like my internal organs were resonating. I was really worried that the car would fall apart.

Namtso is really beautiful. I will come again next time. The road back was still bumpy. At about noon, we finally got out of the bumpy road. My internal organs were baptized again. I checked WeChat Sports and found that I had taken more than 30,000 steps in more than three hours of driving. You can imagine the degree of bumpiness by yourself...

By Night Train Stars |

After arriving at the gate of Namtso Scenic Area, it takes another half an hour to reach the Namtso Lake. At the mountain pass, tie the prayer flags you have written, lean your head on the prayer flags and pray silently, then drive to the lake. Generally speaking, there are not many people traveling to Tibet this year, so the lakeside is relatively quiet. Look at the mountains in the distance and the nearby sacred lake, blow the wind and be in a daze, and then go back.

By King of Amy |

Namtso was the first holy lake we visited during our trip to Qinghai-Tibet in 2007. The thing I remember most was my wife's altitude sickness. The altitude of Namtso is not particularly high, but because we have to cross the Naganla Pass at an altitude of more than 5,100 meters, we are likely to get sick during the climb. And if we stay overnight by the lake, the temperature is low and the wind is strong at night, which will also aggravate the symptoms of headaches. Therefore, we must prepare enough medicines.

The scenery beside the holy lake is something I have never seen before, pure white ice flowers, flying prayer flags, devout people circumambulating the lake, sacred Mani piles...

Considering the simple conditions there, the accommodation was better than expected.

By Lushan Shenglongba |

The bumpy and dusty road to Nagenla Pass was gone the moment we reached Namtso. Perhaps this is not a holy lake at all, but a myth on the plateau. The wind is strong and the waves are huge by the lake. The flocks of seagulls and the main peak of Nyainqentanglha Mountain in the distance tell you that this is really Namtso. The lake is still as green as ever, and the waves are raging against the huge reefs on the shore. What is not calm is the magnificent scenery, and what is surprisingly calm is your heart. Yes, Namtso is very cold and windy, and the road here is very difficult to walk, but this does not prevent us from coming here, whether it is worship or pilgrimage, at this moment, I am with Namtso.

By China-TravelNote users |

I drove to Qinghai-Tibet a few days ago. I went to Namtso Lake six years ago and was moved by the starry sky and sunrise of the holy lake. This time, I finally went to Namtso Lake the day before my return trip. I really understood what "life would be as good as the first sight" means. It takes more than 170 kilometers from Lhasa to Dangxiong by car, which takes 3 hours. Then walk for another half an hour to the ticket office of the scenic spot. It costs 120 yuan per person, and the ticket includes insurance. It seems reasonable. The prices of various scenic spots around Lhasa are almost between 100 and 200 yuan.

For a 4A scenic spot, I just want to say: It’s not worth it at all!!!

Are you crazy about money? Are you going to destroy the sign of Holy Lake?

Friends who want to go here, I really advise you to be cautious. If you really want to go, don't have too high expectations, otherwise you will be very, very, very disappointed! No matter how beautiful the scenery is, it can't make up for the disappointment!

1. It takes more than 20 kilometers from the ticket office to the scenic area gate, about half an hour. Do you think you have arrived after entering the scenic area gate? ? Wrong! The nightmare has just begun. From the gate to the lake, you still need to walk more than 20 kilometers. This section of the road is under construction and the road is so dilapidated that you doubt your life! ! ! The 30 speed limit is useless because you can't even drive 30. After passing Naganla, you can finally see the lake, and then it takes another hour to drive to the Zhaxi Peninsula. . . That means it takes more than two hours to drive from the ticket office to the lake! ! !

2. There are 5 public toilets in total. The one at the entrance of the scenic spot is OK. The one at the entrance of the scenic spot is not open. There is a new one at Zhaxi Peninsula which is also not open. The one at the ticket office and the temporary toilet at Zhaxi Peninsula are unbelievable. There is no water and no one cleans them. You can find the place by smelling with your eyes closed 100 meters away. Is this what a 4A scenic spot with a ticket price of 120 yuan should have?

3. Other infrastructure, um~ in fact, there is no other infrastructure at all. The parking lot is just a random piece of land. On the whole, it is a scenic spot that has just begun to be developed, or it cannot be considered a scenic spot. This is called enclosing a high-quality natural environment and collecting money!

4. There are several viewing platforms on the road, and there is nothing else but a stone tablet in Naganla. There is nothing good to see from the viewing platforms on the road. It is better to enjoy the free scenery along the way. The Nyainqentanglha along National Highway 109 is very beautiful, and there is really no need to go to the viewing platform.

5. The water of the holy lake cannot be defiled, so forget about playing in the water. If you are not a photography enthusiast, there is nothing much to do except taking a few tourist photos. The round trip from Lhasa takes 10 hours, but you only get 5 minutes to play.

6. Let’s talk about people. There are not many management staff in the scenic area. I only saw one person who stopped cars to park in the parking lot, wearing a green vest; a few people who asked you to pay to ride horses and yaks to take pictures, also wearing green vests; and a fake skewers seller, who pestered you for hundreds of meters and couldn’t be driven away, also wearing a green vest!!!

7. The return journey completely destroyed my last thoughts about Namtso. When I arrived at the entrance of the scenic area, I wanted to buy a bottle of water. A bottle of Nongfu Spring water cost 5 yuan. Since I was really thirsty, I thought about buying two bottles. Then the child from the store pulled my clothes and kept asking for candy. He didn’t act like a spoiled child, but he pulled like a robber, which made me run away from this place.

It takes 5 hours to drive from Lhasa to Namtso. There are many carpools near the Potala Palace. Namtso is suitable for watching the sunrise. The scenery of the lake is very beautiful, but the sanitary environment here is really average.

By Zhang Hang |

You can feel the magnificence if you go there. The snow-capped mountains are connected to the big lake. It is very spectacular to climb to the top of the hill in the morning to watch the sunrise. But be careful when taking pictures. I took a picture of a lamb and was asked for 10 yuan. The lamb had a red ribbon tied on its horns and stood on the road. After taking the picture, a little girl came over and asked for money, saying that I took a picture of her lamb. Alas, most of the sleeping places are board houses. It’s good to have electric blankets, otherwise it’s very cold

Namtso Lake is located in the central part of Tibet Autonomous Region. It is the largest lake in Tibet and the second largest saltwater lake in China. The lake is 4,718 meters above sea level and is approximately rectangular in shape. It is more than 70 kilometers long from east to west and more than 30 kilometers wide from north to south, covering an area of more than 1,920 square kilometers.

Early scientific surveys believed that the maximum depth of Namtso was 33 meters, but re-measurements of the lake in the past two years found that the deepest part of Namtso exceeded 120 meters. With a water storage capacity of 76.8 billion cubic meters, it is the highest large lake in the world.

"Namtso" is Tibetan, and its Mongolian name is "Tenggeri Sea", both of which mean "Heavenly Lake". Namtso is one of the "three holy lakes" in Tibet. Namtso is the first sacred lake of the ancient Zhangzhung Buddhist Bon religion and one of the famous Buddhist holy places.

Namtso is like a sapphire inlaid in the snow-capped mountains and plateaus. It is extremely beautiful and holy. Although the journey is long and the environment is harsh, the moment you see the beautiful scenery, you will feel that you should come again if you have the chance.

By Host of Time |

Whether you look at it from afar or walk to the lakeside, Namtso is vast, clear, and blue, and you just want to stay there. If I had enough talent and poetic sentiment, wouldn't it be a pity if I didn't write something to praise or express my feelings? However, I am a poor writer and can only say that it is so beautiful! However, this sentence is actually quite accurate as a summary (forced explanation).

We set off from Lhasa to Namtso on May 1st. The round trip takes more than ten hours. A large section of the road is under repair before entering the scenic area. It is recommended to take a good off-road vehicle. A large part of the lake is still frozen. It is said that it will not completely melt until mid-to-late May, but the scenery is still beautiful.

The surface of Namtso Lake is between 4,500 and 4,700 meters above sea level. It is the highest lake in the world and one of the must-visit places in Tibet.

Namtso is stunning, the lake is calm, climb up the hill of Zaxi Peninsula, you can see the whole lake, it is highly recommended to climb up

You must go to the Holy Elephant Gate when you go to Namtso, otherwise it will be a pity

Namtso is still frozen in this season, the air is very clean, and people can stand on the ice. However, for safety reasons, it is not recommended to stay there for a long time.

After winding through towering snow-capped mountains and rugged mountain roads for more than four hours, we finally reached Namtso, the last pure land under the blue planet.

By Snowball Dance |

Namtso is beautiful in both winter and summer, and the scenery on the north bank is more special than that on the south bank.

By cc~ |

I went to Namtso in 2012. No matter how good the camera is, it is difficult to restore the true beauty. You need to experience it in person.

One of the must-see places in Tibet, the snow-capped mountains are reflected on the lake, and the golden light at sunrise makes people feel like worshipping.

When you come to Tibet, you must go to Namtso Lake to watch the unique sunrise and sunset.

Beautiful. I like this kind of scenery. . . . . . . . . . . . .

I came in late April and signed up for a one-day tour with limited time. The one-way trip took nearly five hours, which was really annoying. When I arrived, the land was still covered with ice, but the scenery was spectacular and worth it. However, the road was under construction for a long time during the drive, which was the most difficult day I had in Tibet...

Standing by the lake, there is a deep and clear blue sky above your head, which blends perfectly with the pure lake water. In Namtso, you can truly feel what other people who have been to Tibet have described: the body is in hell, but the eyes are in heaven.

There are countless Tso-tso along the northern Tibet Grand Loop. But when you get here, there are no more surprises. Perhaps this trip has reminded me that after going through thousands of mountains and rivers, the past is always the best.

The holy lake on the plateau overlooks the Tanggula Mountains. When the weather is good, the sky is blue, the water is clear, and the clouds are white.

By 💭 |

At the end of March, Namtso was still in winter, with thick ice on the lake. At this time, the "lover" was obscured by the rising fog and could not be seen clearly.

Tibetans leading white yaks and selling trinkets can be seen sporadically by the lake. The youth hostel near Namtso looks a bit depressed in winter.

By When Go |

This name is definitely my earliest understanding of Tibet.

After crossing the Nyainqentanglha Pass, Namtso lies at the end of the grassland, like a mirror, sticking to the flat ground. After passing the winding, ironed road, Namtso slowly comes to you. It is not as stunning as Yanghu Lake, nor as close as Ram Lacuo. Namtso seems to be the calmest and most composed one.

People who come to Namtso are looking forward to the cosmic drama that takes place in the sky after nightfall. With the rippling lake surface, it feels as if they are in outer space, surrounded by the Milky Way and among the stars.

The quilt of more than ten centimeters was evenly spread on the ground, but this was God's will. I saw Namtso, which is rarely seen on the Internet. Namtso is indeed magical.

Namtso Lake is a must-visit place in this life

By Boiled water |

The conditions in Namtso are better than those in Mount Everest. We were crazy when we arrived at Namtso. After all, it was rainy for two days when we went to Mount Everest, and we hadn't seen the blue for a long time. The blue of Namtso is a kind of illusion. Namtso is very crowded on weekends.

Yanghu Lake and Namtso Lake are both very beautiful, and they are worthy of being one of the sacred lakes in Tibet.

Visited during the National Day in 2010. Plateau lakes, freshwater lakes, beautiful scenery. A must-see in Tibet.

By Kahara_ |

There are Tibetans and their white yaks by the lake for tourists to take photos. Before coming here, I heard that if you take photos of the "sacred cows" without the owner's permission, you may be criticized or even charged by the Tibetans.

There are quite a few seabirds (I'm not sure if they are "seagulls"...) foraging by the lake, and they don't seem to be afraid of people.

The highest lake in the world is really great! However, the horse riding and photography there are still quite dark, so you must be more careful

By Soda Fish |

When I went to Namtso, it was cloudy. It was not as holy and stunning as the first time I saw it, nor as blue and vast as the second time I saw it. It was covered by thick clouds and presented a depressing gray tone. The sky was gray, the snow-capped mountains in the distance were gray, and the frozen lake was gray.

Namtso, which means "Heavenly Lake" in Tibetan, is very sacred, and the water is clear and blue, charmingly blue.

By Xiaofan is not funny |

Although it is already very popular, it is still one of the places you must visit when you come to Lhasa. Namtso means "Heavenly Lake" in Tibetan. It is no exaggeration. When you see Namtso for the first time, it is like a sea in the sky. It is very shocking. The combination of mountains and water is perfect.

Among these numerous lakes, there is a beautiful and mysterious lake, Namtso Lake, which is the second largest saltwater lake in my country and is located in the central part of the Tibet Autonomous Region. The lake is 4,718 meters above sea level, with a rectangular shape, more than 70 kilometers long from east to west, more than 30 kilometers wide from north to south, and an area of about 1,920 square kilometers.

At night, I had the most sumptuous meal ever in a tour group. The driver was a good driver. Without sunshine, Namtso was not as amazing as I imagined. The accommodation conditions in Namtso were very difficult.

The 120 yuan ticket is so expensive. It's a long way from the ticket office to the lake.

When we arrived at the lake, the dark clouds covered the blue sky, hiding the beauty of Namtso. The surging lake water hit the shore, and it felt like a rainstorm was coming.

By Fragrant wine jar |

After we bought the tickets, we were allowed to drive into the scenic area by ourselves. I was really happy at that time. After entering the gate, I realized that the difficult road was actually inside the scenic area. The scenic area was rebuilding the roads. Some roads had just been paved with gravel, and some roads had not yet been formed. Fortunately, we drove off-road for about an hour. The scenic area is very large, with continuous snow-capped mountains and many wetlands around. The lakes surrounded by snow-capped mountains are so pure and beautiful.

The mountains and waters are so spiritual! Staying by the water makes your heart calm, your eyes are fascinated by the azure water, and you don’t want to leave!

I was so excited when I saw the lake. The sky had cleared up and I could see how blue it was. The lake was almost as blue as the sky.

I couldn't help but take a few pictures, the scenery was far more stunning than what I took pictures of.

When you walk to the lake, you can’t tell which is the sky and which is the lake, the sky and the lake are both deep blue.

It's not too cold by the lake in the evening, but it's still quite cold after the sun goes down.

By Fish and Jade |

At the ticket office at the entrance of the scenic spot, the staff of the scenic spot said that there was snow on the mountain and be careful of the slippery road. Maybe at that time, there was an invisible voice-over saying, welcome to Namtso, Namtso has surprises waiting for you.

Namtso is more like the sea, with waves, gulls, and whistling cold wind.

When it was getting dark, there was an explosion of thunder overhead and lightning flashed in the clouds. The extreme weather on the plateau was as magnificent as if it was controlled by a mysterious force. Whenever the sword of the sky appeared on the lake, there would be cheers from the shore.

The accommodation conditions were better than those at the Everest Base Camp, after all, we upgraded from tents to board houses. But it was still very cold, and I had to cover myself with two thick quilts. I felt chest tightness and couldn't sleep, and I could hear a lot of dogs howling.

By Stars in the wind |

After buying the ticket at the gate, it is still dozens of kilometers to the scenic area. The road is under construction, and there are piles of sand and gravel everywhere, so traffic is very slow.

By Daisy loves cake |

There are many well-behaved horses by the lake, as well as white yaks looked after by locals. When no one is taking pictures, they just stay there with their heads down, looking very honest.

In the distance are majestic snow-capped mountains, at the foot is the azure blue water, and the agile seagulls are circling in the sky with their wings flapping, adding some vitality to this holy lake on the plateau.

Another place you can visit from Lhasa is Namtso Lake, which is the highest lake in the world and the largest lake in Tibet. It is the most sea-like of all the lakes in Tibet. To its southeast is the main peak of Nyainqentanglha Mountain, which reaches the sky and is covered with snow all year round. To its north is the gentle and continuous plateau hills. The vast grassland surrounds the lake. The clear and transparent "Heavenly Lake" is like a huge mirror, inlaid on the grassland in northern Tibet. The snow-capped mountains show their faces, the sunset glows, and the lake is beautiful. The scenery is poetic and picturesque.

The beauty of Namtso lies in the starry sky. As the night deepens, the sky is vast and deep, with thousands of miles of Milky Way and countless stars. The stars in the sky are out of reach, but they are so beautiful that they make you feel moved, awe-inspiring, and full of reverie. Only in the deepest night can we have the most brilliant starry sky. The deep night ocean and the starry sky of the universe complement each other. Looking up, the stars twinkling under the dome and above the lake are like transparent hearts, splendid nirvana. "Nirvana, all changes are not troubles, they are all in line with the pure and wonderful virtues of Nirvana.
