Bayinbuluke Swan Lake

Bayinbuluke Swan Lake is the largest swan nature reserve in Asia and the only one in my country. It is home to the largest population of wild swans in my country. Located in the Bayinbuluke Grassland in Hejing County, Xinjiang, it has an average altitude of 2,400 meters and a total area of about 1,100 square kilometers. It consists of countless winding lakes of various sizes. Bayinbuluke Grassland is the second largest grassland in my country after Ordos, with an area of 24,000 square kilometers and an altitude of 2,300-2,800 meters. The residents in the area are mainly Mongolians, accounting for about 78% of the population in the area. The local Mongolian herders protect the swans and live with them peacefully.

The seat of Yinbuluke District Government is 338 kilometers away from Hejing County, and there are buses running every other day. Usually, you can take the Yining-Nalati line to get to Bayinbuluke. You can catch a bus from Nalati to Bayinbuluke. There may be passing cars in the morning, after 4 pm and until 9 pm. However, the road conditions along the way are very poor, and the vehicles are old and overloaded, so be prepared. It is best to catch a bus from Yining to Kashgar and Kuche, because the bus from Xinyuan only has hard seats.
There are passing buses from Bayinbuluke to Kuqa at 5pm, but there may not be seats available. It takes at least 8 hours to travel more than 200 kilometers.

We arrived at Swan Lake, but the swans had flown away. There were only some water birds, some floating in the river, and some standing alone on the railings of the plank road, looking into the distance. The water was full of water plants, and the gray sky made the water surface gray, which did not look very clear. The snow-capped mountains in the distance were vaguely visible, but without the participation of the sun, the overall beauty was missing.

By Yuersh |

Walking on the overpass of Swan Lake, looking around, you can see the surrounding mountains, egrets and grass at the foot of the mountains, the sun shining on the lake, the water is clear and rippling, and in the distance, the whooper swans, little swans, mute swans, grey geese, bar-headed geese, terns, etc. are soaring in the sky, playing in the water, or talking in the grass, full of vitality. This scene allows you to put aside all worldly worries and enjoy the gift of nature to your heart's content.

We arrived at the Swan Lake Scenic Area at around 19:20. It was still bright and sunny, and the scenery was so beautiful that we could hear people all around us exclaiming in admiration for its beauty.

The scenic area is very beautiful, surrounded by mountains and water. When we arrived, the weather was quite good, with blue sky, white clouds, green mountains and green water. The Swan Lake was very clean and reflected the image. The photos taken were very beautiful. There were indeed not many swans, but we saw one. There were also marmots shuttling through the grass by the lake, and eagles hovering nearby, not far away, so they attracted many cameras. The sky here at 7 o'clock in the evening is like noon. I like this bright, clean and fresh feeling.

By Cold autumn night |

The sky is high and the clouds are reflected in the water. Wandering here, you feel like you are in heaven, with a unique natural beauty. Wild swans live here, creating a unique landscape in the vast grassland. Strolling along the Swan Lake, the water is clear and swans are swimming on it. When you see them spreading their wings and gliding back and forth on the lake, you will sigh that nature is their best destination.

Arriving at the Swan Lake scenic spot, I felt a moment of silence after getting off the bus. On the vast grassland, even the wind had stopped. The only sounds on the grassland were the tourists talking, which highlighted the infinite desolation of the land. Unexpectedly, there were still a few white swans in the wetland at the end of the corridor. The sparse tourists were overjoyed.

In the Bayinbuluke Grassland Scenic Area, the first stop on the scenic area shuttle bus is Swan Lake. Every April, swans fly back from the south to reproduce here, and return to the south with their young swans after September. June is the breeding season for swans, and the number of swans is the largest during this period. So whether this place is good depends on the season, and May to July should be the best season.

Swan Lake is a famous scenic spot in Bayinbrook. After getting off the car, we saw the quiet lake in the middle of the green grassland from afar. It was like a sapphire inlaid on the green grassland, which was still very beautiful. We followed the crowd along the wooden plank road towards Swan Lake. From time to time, we could see birds flying up and down on both sides, and tourists were teasing these birds. After a closer look, they were not swans. We continued to walk forward and came to the Swan Lake. We saw the reflection of the sky and the mountain reflected on the lake. With the ripples of the lake, it swayed gently, adding a bit of agile beauty.

By Happy Ranger |

When I arrived at the scenic spot, I realized that Swan Lake is not a complete lake, but a series of waters and vast wetlands formed by the Kaidu River bending on the grassland. They are connected in series and become an ideal home for swans and waterfowl. The swan home attraction that tourists can reach is a small piece of water surface created by artificially blocking the river, and a wooden plank road has been built. There are no swans, but there are dozens of red-billed gulls. It is said that the real Swan Lake is on a mountain far away from here. Generally, a tourist group visits this attraction for more than half an hour.

By Rise from Fire |

The famous Swan Lake is located on the grassland. Swan Lake is actually a large swamp composed of many small lakes connected in series. It is the first swan nature reserve in the country and the largest swan take-off site in China.

Nearly 10,000 swans inhabit the Swan Lake in Bayinbuluke Grassland for up to 8 months. It is the largest habitat and seed source of swans in China. It has five major characteristics: a wide variety of species, a large number, a concentrated habitat, rapid growth and development, and a long residence period.

Bayinbuluke Swan Lake is truly a paradise for swans. We tourists are all intruders. It is best not to disturb them. Just take some photos and videos.

Swan Lake is not a specific lake, but a large swamp composed of many small lakes connected in series. It is the first swan nature reserve in the country. The reserve is rich in water and grass, with a humid climate and beautiful scenery. In order to provide tourists with a viewing point, the scenic area selected a lake from the many lakes in Bayinbuluke as a tourist viewing point, and built a wooden plank road by the lake for viewing along the lake. It is said that many swans come here to breed and rest from June to September every year. There are several swans living on the other side of the lake in the distance. I captured their beautiful figures with the telephoto lens of the camera, and finally the trip was worthwhile. There are four types of swans distributed in the northern hemisphere, and there are three types in Bayinbuluke: large and small swans and mute swans.

The Bayinbuluke Scenic Area is not a big place and there are only a few swans. The real breeding ground of the swans has been protected, and this place is just for tourists to see.

By Taishada |

The scenery is pretty good, but the mosquito problem needs to be dealt with properly

By Pineapple buns 🍍 |

The Swan Lake I saw recently on the Internet is very beautiful. But when we came today, the temperature was not so low and there were no foggy pines on the trees, so the scenery looked average. The fee of 20 yuan was not very expensive. We saw swans, red urns, Chinese sturgeons and other small animals here. There are many photography enthusiasts taking pictures of swans by the lake.

By Strolling Like a Flow (Xi'an) |

We came at a bad time. A large number of swans had already left, leaving only a few swans and a small number of gulls on the lake.

Bayinbuluke Swan Lake is a natural wetland where one-fifth of the world's swans stop during their migration. November and May of the following year are the best seasons for swan watching. In October, there are only a few swans raised by the scenic area in the water, and a group of gulls competing with the swans for food.

By audreylee |

At this season, the swans have migrated elsewhere, leaving only a few little swans and some swans that cannot fly away living here. Unfortunately, I didn't see a flock of swans.

In the distance of the lake, you can see dark green mountains in the distance, with white clouds floating halfway up the mountains and surrounded by snow-capped mountains. Although the altitude is high, the nourishment of the snow water makes the water and grass here extremely lush.

By Mr. Wang's Travel Notes |

Not only are there swans in the summer, there are also water rats in the winter!

By Yooooki |

Although many guides online said that there were no swans to be seen in Swan Lake, we still went down to take a look because it was early. There were swans, but it seemed that there was nothing worth seeing hahahaha.

By Yu Tu |

When the grassland turns green in summer, countless swans breed and live here, and fly south to spend the winter. In late autumn, there are only about 20 swans in the lake, and most of them should have flown south. Swans are said to be elegant, but you can often see them sticking their butts out and burying their heads in the water to look for food.

By Alaska |

The Swan Home is the first stop. This is a wetland landscape with a large lake in the middle, which is the Swan Lake. Looking north along the lake, you can see snow-capped mountains in the distance. It snowed in Bayinbuluke in September, probably because it was out of season. There were only a few whooper swans and not many little swans. The tour can be completed in half an hour by walking along the plank road on the lake.

By Archangel |

Walking along the wooden plank road, I only saw a pool of water. The end of the plank road was about halfway into the lake. Maybe I didn't see a wider area. But the lake water was turquoise and a little yellow. There were only a few white swans and some seagull-like birds. I was a little disappointed! I felt that the swans would not be very comfortable in such water. Did I go to a fake Swan Lake?

By Bull Run Around the World |

Although there are no swans in Swan Lake, the snow-capped mountain lake is particularly fresh.

By Jiulongtiankong |

After entering the scenic area and taking the shuttle bus, it took about an hour to reach the first attraction, Swan Lake.

We went to watch the swans. Although it is the largest swan sanctuary in Asia, there are relatively few swans in such a crowded place. There are only a few of them, but there are quite a few wild geese and gulls!

By Artemis Simba |

I was speechless by the beautiful scenery on both sides along the way, but when I arrived at Swan Lake, I could only sigh, it was so beautiful! Grassland + river + lake + snow-capped mountains + swans, don’t you think it’s an overload of beauty!

By Xin Xiaoyang |

Swan Lake is a wetland consisting of many lakes, swamps and springs.

There is abundant water and grass here, making it a paradise for birds.

But seeing the swans depends on luck. When we arrived, it happened to be the season for swans to breed and hatch. There were only a few white geese and unknown birds floating gracefully or playing on the lake.

Bayinbuluke, known as the "Home of Swans", is a paradise for birds but a "hell" for humans.

I can’t remember how many little cuties we saw in Swan Lake, but I only remember that the mosquitoes here were really “inhumane”.

Not only is the annoying buzzing sound unbearable, but there is also the itchy feeling of being hit by mosquitoes. The whole world has been completely conquered by mosquitoes.

The auntie selling facial veils here is doing a booming business. A bag is sold out in the blink of an eye.

By Xi'er |

It is no exaggeration to call it a paradise on earth. Words cannot describe the wonders of nature, and swans are the next best thing.

By Greater freedom |

On October 7, 2017, the snowy Bayinbuluke Town was sparsely populated, and the hotels, restaurants, and snack bars that were open to the public after the National Day closed down and went into hibernation. We were the last guests of Bayinbuluke Swan Lake.

The tour guide was very responsible and communicated with the scenic spot one day in advance, so that the scenic area shuttle bus could let us get close to Swan Lake. The bus stopped at the parking lot in front of the ticket hall. We listened to the scenic area tour guide briefly introduce the tour process in the ticket hall, and then filed onto the scenic area shuttle bus. This bus only had a cover on the top of the head. The cold wind rushed into our noses and mouths from all directions when crossing the grassland. If we spoke, we would be blocked by the cold wind, so no one spoke on the road.

It takes a 2-kilometer trek from the shuttle bus parking lot to reach Swan Lake. As the snow on the wooden planks on the road was more than 10 centimeters, walking was very difficult. I looked into the lake and could no longer see the swans. I was afraid of falling on the road, so I had to take a few photos of Swan Lake from a distance and then called it a day.

According to the explanation, the swans will only fly back to build nests in April next year, give birth in July, and fly to Yunnan in the south to spend the winter before the first cold wave arrives. It's a pity that I didn't see swans and other birds flying here, but it was my biggest mistake to fly here from the south in such a cold weather. I advise everyone to come here in July if you want to see birds. Off topic, my colleague went to Xinjiang in August during the summer vacation in 2018 and got sunburned. So when is the best time to visit Xinjiang?

By ✨Amethyst Snow✨ |

When we got there, we found that it was not as beautiful as the Nine Bends and Eighteen Turns. Fortunately, when we turned back, the three little boys who took us on horseback riding were really playing and joking, making us scream and laugh. It was so fun! But it was cold!

By Blueee |

At Swan Lake, you can take out bread or biscuits from your bag to feed the seagulls. Once you throw them into the lake, a large number of seagulls will flock to the lake to compete for food. Of course, the swans are oblivious to all this. They still keep their own pace and wander around. Even in the heavy rain, three swans still line up in a line and swim calmly in the lake, unaffected by the bad weather.

By TOPAZ |

The Swan Lake in Bayinbuluke is so pure that I feel redundant. In order to protect the environment, there is no signal and we are separated and have to search back and forth.

By Xinjiang Tuge |

The continuous snow-capped mountains and the ice peaks that rise into the sky form the natural barrier of Swan Lake. The winding and abundant Kaidu River runs through it. The vast grassland is dotted with lakes, shallow beaches and isolated islands, which is an ideal place for waterfowl to live. Springs, streams and snow water from the Tianshan Mountains flow into the lake. The water is abundant, the grass is lush, the food is abundant, and the climate is cool and humid, which is suitable for the growth of swans. Every spring, the ice and snow melt, and all things revive. A large number of swans fly in groups from India and southern Africa over the mountains and ridges to live and breed in Swan Lake. Under the warm sunshine, the lake, the sky, the cloud shadows, and the swans form a picture of "a piece of water without a trace soaking the blue sky, and the mountains and waters form a picture". After September, they fly south with their chicks. Therefore, June, when swans are hatching, is the best time to watch swans. During more than two months, thousands of whooper swans, mute swans, little swans and more than 70 rare birds fly among the blue sky and green grass, and play in the clear water of lakes and marshes, just like a wonderful painting, hence the name "Swan Lake".

By LilyChan |

I didn't have much hope at first, but I didn't expect to be able to see the swans playing at close range and capture their various movements.

It is close to Bayinbuluke Park and next to Duku Highway. The scenery is pretty good and it is a must-see attraction when traveling to Duku!

Swan Lake Nature Reserve is located on the grassland, with lush grass, humid climate and beautiful scenery. Wild swans live here, which has become a unique landscape in the vast grassland. Strolling along the Swan Lake, looking at the pavilions standing, the clear water, and a few swans swimming in the distance, stretching their feathers and chirping softly. Wandering here, it feels like living in heaven, with unique natural beauty. This scene, I was deeply moved, so I took pictures to my heart's content, forgetting all the hard work.

Although we didn't see many swans in the scenic area, the scenery was really nice. The weather was also great on the day we went, which was especially suitable for taking pictures.

By Cathy Xi Congcong |

It is said that one out of every five swans in the world was born in Bayinbuluke, but tourists are not allowed to enter the swan protection area. We could only see a few swans and a group of sand gulls in the scenic area.

By Rita |

The lake is not big and the water is clean and bright. After walking around the wooden boardwalk, we finally saw two elegant and charming white swans at the end of the boardwalk!

By Philippines |

Wild swans are afraid of people, so I didn't see any swans. I only saw water birds that looked like seagulls.

By Victor Hui |

We were heading for Swan Lake. In previous years, we heard that you could ride a horse into the natural swan lake to watch their water ballet, but this year, tourists were not allowed to go deep into the lake. Only a small area was left where we could only see a few dull swans in the distance. So we started taking crazy photos of wild geese and seagulls, haha, they looked like seagulls and wild ducks.

By Trickle |

The video shown on the intercity train introduced Bayinbuluke as the hometown of swans, saying that three out of every five swans in the world flew out of Bayinbuluke.

The tour guide said that swans can only be seen in spring and autumn. Now the swans in Swan Lake are all old, weak, sick and disabled, and they can't fly anymore. Because this is also a swan rescue station, the healthy swans that can fly have already flown away.

By Are fish dumplings delicious? |

Although it is called Swan Lake, there are actually only a few wild swans. But it is not surprising. With so many tourists coming here every day, I guess many swans have "moved away". Although it is called Swan Lake, the lake has become the territory of red-billed seagulls.

By Excellent Ryoshi |

The first attraction is Swan Lake. Many swans come to Bayinbuluke Grassland every season. Swan Lake is just a relatively large lake. There are swans in other lakes, big and small. Although the swans are not dense, it does not affect people's interest in watching. It is really surprising to see swans here in Xinjiang.

By Thinking of Beauty |

There were not many swans but a lot of seagulls, very similar to those in Kunming Cuihu Lake. I fed them a lot of naan.

By Peppers with Cheese |

There are many birds here. A big brother gave me some bread, which attracted a group of birds.

Most of the tourists in Swan Lake Scenic Area were from tourist groups. Some middle-aged women quarreled and cursed because they were fighting for a spot to take photos. In fact, traveling with a group can cause bad moods due to various unpleasantness. There are dozens of people in a group, and they have to fight for resources everywhere. It is normal to have friction. In addition, some Chinese people are not good at it, so quarrels and curses are quite common. But quarreling and cursing in such a beautiful place is really a detriment to the scenery.

The Swan Lake is not big, and there are not many swans, but it is deep in the grassland and has the characteristics of comic fans.

By Sandy🐡 |

It is now also a swan protection station, where you can see many swans living and breeding.

I don't know whether it is the blue sky that makes the lake blue, or the blue lake water looks even purer under the sunshine. Swan Lake is like a mirror-like light blue silk, and the white swans wandering here look like white sails from a distance, leisurely and contented.

By Yang Xiaoqian |

There are a few swans and a large group of water birds. You can take pictures of them. Because it is a wetland, there are a lot of mosquitoes. Everyone should take anti-mosquito measures.

By Oriental spider |

It was the wrong season, so only a few sick swans were seen in Swan Lake, while the red-billed ducks that can be seen in the mainland were flying all over the sky.

By China-TravelNote users |

Although it stopped raining when we arrived, the sky was still dark, and with the backlight, the magical "Black Swan Lake" appeared.

There are also flocks of seagulls here. At first we thought they were released into the wild by the scenic spot, because how could there be seagulls in Xinjiang? But the staff told us that they were all migratory and only stayed for a few months.

By Colorful ink |

We didn’t see any swans in the scenic area, only a group of cute water birds.

There are more terns than swans in Swan Lake. People sell corn kernels to feed tourists, but they don’t eat corn at all. They only like biscuits and bread.

Several big fat geese were fed by tourists so much that they could hardly fly. It was quite different from the Swan Lake I imagined.

There is a video introduction of the Swan Lake Scenic Area on the bus of Bayinbuluke Scenic Area. This is the largest swan nature reserve in Asia and the only one in my country, and is home to the largest population of wild swans in my country. Every spring, when the ice and snow thaw and the flowers bloom, more than 10,000 rare birds, mainly swans, little swans, and mute swans, who live in India, Myanmar, Pakistan, and even as far as the Black Sea, the Red Sea and the Mediterranean coastal countries, fly thousands of miles to Bayinbuluke in groups to live and breed. When winter comes, they bring their families and fly south across the Himalayas and leave.

We went there in early June. Maybe it was the wrong time. There were no flocks of swans in Swan Lake. There were only about four or five swans left to enjoy the scenery. The overall feeling of Swan Lake Scenic Area is very good and worth recommending. The driver bought corn kernels for the children to feed the swans. The children are like this. No matter where they go, as long as they can feed small animals, it will greatly increase their travel pleasure👻

Winter is off-season here, so there is no entrance fee. There is not even an old man at the gate, so we drove straight in and saw few tourists along the way. We were happy and relaxed. But when we arrived at the swan observation point, let alone swans, we didn’t even see a sparrow. Is this a scam? At this time, a pickup truck slowly drove up from behind, and I quickly waved and asked: Brother, where are the swans? The pickup truck driver rolled down the window and said: The swans are all inside. You can’t see them at this viewing platform. You have to go inside. You can almost see the shadows of the swans after walking two kilometers.

After walking for about half an hour, we found that we really couldn't walk anymore. There were mud everywhere. It was impossible for us to cross it in our clothes. But fortunately, we brought a drone and flew over to take a few photos. It was not the large swans I imagined. There were only a few swans swimming freely in the newly melted wetlands. Seeing this scene, I couldn't help but think of my hometown Harbin. There is a world-famous dish in my hometown: goose stewed in an iron pot. . Thinking about it, I got hungry.

After taking photos of the swans, we walked back to the car from the muddy ground and drove on to the scenic area. The end of the road was the Nine Bends and Eighteen Turns. Now the Nine Bends and Eighteen Turns was all white. Not to mention the bends, even straight lines could not be seen. However, the horses and scenery on both sides of the road were still very nice.

After getting off the shuttle bus at Swan Lake, you can see the clear lake surface from afar, as well as the covered bridges and plank roads on the lakeside, and you can also vaguely see a lot of birds flying.

However, the toilet at the get-off point is very busy, with many people queuing up there to use the toilet. It is recommended that you go to the Tourist Service Center or to Jiuqu Shibawan to use the toilet. The toilets there are bigger, more numerous, and less crowded. The toilet at the get-off point at Swan Lake is the busiest and relatively small. There is another toilet on the lakeside, which has fewer people.

After getting off the bus, we walked along the plank road and finally arrived at the Swan Lake. There were many tourists on the plank road, and everyone was taking pictures with the clear lake water.

It's not that there were no swans, but there were only two of them, standing quietly on the edge of the lake, without moving a muscle. At first I thought they were sculptures, but when I looked closely I found that they were really swans. However, they were too lazy and did not move a muscle. The endless stream of tourists around them did not seem to cause any disturbance to them.

However, there are many small water birds in the lake. These birds are much more lively, flying in the air and swimming in the water. There are also curious tourists who throw a lot of bread crumbs and corn kernels into the water, which makes these birds move more happily.

The scenery of Swan Lake is really beautiful. The clouds in the sky are arranged neatly. From far to near, the clouds in the distance look very low and seem close to the ground, while the clouds nearby are pressing down, creating a strong visual impact.

The lake is very calm, reflecting the clouds and blue sky, forming a beautiful picture. However, you have to hurry when taking pictures, because the wind will suddenly blow soon and the reflection will be wrinkled.

Birds are flying over the water, and many are quietly lying in the water. In the distance is a vast grassland. Although there are few swans, the scenery of Swan Lake is still really beautiful.

I walked along the plank road to the depths of the lake. The lake in the distance was calmer, and there were no small water birds flying here. It was less lively and more peaceful. There was a family of swans resting on the land by the water. Since it was out of the range of the plank road, I could only watch from afar. It was okay. In fact, this kind of peace and quiet was more harmonious than taking pictures up close.

I spent quite a while at the Swan Lake scenic spot, and only left reluctantly when the wind started to blow, feeling satisfied. Then I got on the bus again. Before I got on the bus, the barbecue stand by the Swan Lake opened, and many people gathered around. When I asked, I found out that it was 5 yuan per skewer, which was a reasonable price in the scenic area.

Bayinbuluke Swan Lake is super beautiful. It is a place for photography enthusiasts to take pictures of beautiful scenery. The transportation is not convenient, but it seems that everyone goes there either by car or with a tour group. There is a shuttle bus in the scenic area. You can only take the shuttle bus from the main gate to the core area. It is far away, but it is worth it.

I have never seen such a peaceful and tranquil morning. The warm sunshine shines on the green grass. The oval ridge in the distance is set against the lake, beautiful like a landscape painting. The accompanying white swan bends its elegant goose neck. The naughty white swan also keeps performing the water pouring performance.

When I woke up, the sky began to clear up, and the snow-capped mountains in the distance were covered with silver. There was still thick fog at the foot of the mountain. It snowed last night, but I didn’t feel it. Bayinbuluke Swan Lake is not far away, and I can go and take a look in the morning. So there are the following pictures. I did take a look and took a photo. The fog was too heavy, and I couldn’t see any beautiful scenery when I went in, so I had to stop the car at the door. I also took a casual photo in the car to say that I had been here!

When we arrived at the first stop, Swan Lake, we heard the tour guide in front of us say that there were no swans in the summer, only water. We immediately got on the bus to the next stop.
