Duku Highway

Duku Highway is like a giant dragon lying in Tianshan Mountain. This 561-kilometer-long highway connecting southern and northern Xinjiang stretches across mountains and valleys, connecting many ethnic minority settlements. Its completion has shortened the distance between southern and northern Xinjiang by nearly half from the original 1,000 kilometers, and can be regarded as a monument in the history of China's highway construction. In order to build this highway, tens of thousands of soldiers fought for 9 years, and 168 of them sacrificed their precious lives.

This is a road that you can enjoy without tickets, which will shock you and make you linger in admiration. The section from Dushanzi to Nalati is mainly dangerous. The road winds through the mountains and snow-capped mountains. The road itself is a scene, and you can enjoy the fun of driving in danger; then to the Kuche section, the road is no longer dangerous, but the scenery is beautiful all the way! There are also many parking spaces, where you can stop to enjoy and take pictures. There are also scenic spots worth seeing along the way, such as Nalati, Bayinbuluke, and Kuche Grand Canyon. It is recommended that you drive by yourself if you have mountain driving skills, including a tour of the scenic spots for more than 4 days. If you just want to enjoy the road scenery, it is recommended to fill up the car with gas and start from Dushanzi or Kuche early in the morning to avoid driving on the mountain road at night. After all, the road is dangerous and the scenery is beautiful. There is basically no signal on the mobile phone along the way, and there are no gas stations on the roadside.

I'm not being pretentious. Only by experiencing it will you know that when we are driving on this road, looking at how such a steep and dangerous mountain can create such a heavenly road, we will really be deeply grateful and remember the soldiers who paid their blood, sweat and even their lives for this.

After entering the highway, we first passed a vast grassland, and then entered a mountainous area. The altitude here is not too high, the mountain road is tortuous, and the brown rocks on the mountain are full of traces of time, telling the long history of this place. While driving on the road, we can faintly see white snow on the top of the distant mountain.

Sometimes you will come across herdsmen grazing their cattle and sheep on motorcycles or horses. The cattle and sheep seem to be strolling leisurely on the road. Not only do they not take the passing vehicles seriously, some of them even engage in indecent acts without scruples.

Duku Highway, from Kuitun Dushanzi District to Kuche, is 561 kilometers long and connects southern and northern Xinjiang. Its connection has shortened the distance between southern and northern Xinjiang by nearly half from the original 1,000 kilometers. The vehicle drove out of Kuitun Dushanzi District to the south, with a wide view, and everyone's mood became comfortable and happy. After passing a few propaganda road signs and forest security checks, they entered Duku Highway. Since the vehicle displacement can meet the requirements of mountain roads, everyone is still confident in traveling on this road. As the scenery of Duku Scenic Highway unfolds, Duku Highway also slowly unveils its mysterious veil. The first highway loop viewing platform attracted everyone to stop and enjoy the view. In the endless Tianshan Mountains, the winding highway rises from north to south along the main and tributary rivers of the Kuitun River to the depths of the Tianshan Mountains. One side is next to the mountain and the other side faces the river. There is a rushing river between the mountains and a gentle grassland on the hillside. The sun shines on the grassland, covering the grassland with a layer of golden color. Shepherds fenced their sheep with stones and wooden fences, lit firewood in the yurt, and the smoke from cooking slowly rose... This kind of plateau pastoral song always caught our eyes inadvertently along the way, making our thoughts full of poetry. Of course, the charm of the Duku Highway is not purely poetry and distance, its steepness and grandeur are the second annotation of its charm. More than half of the Duku Highway passes through high mountains and deep valleys, and along the way it passes through the Hashilegenda Pass Highway Tunnel with the highest altitude; there is also a 100-meter snow-proof corridor on the highway, which can prevent the avalanche of snow on the cliff from falling into the deep ditch beside the highway, which is a unique scene. In order to build this highway, tens of thousands of soldiers fought for 10 years, and 168 of them sacrificed their precious lives. It can be called a monument in the history of China's highway construction. Following the guidance of the geology students on the bus, I looked over and saw that there were dots on the steep cliffs in the distance. It turned out that goats were foraging, which was amazing! Forests, rivers, hillside yurts, sheep flocks and horses that can be seen everywhere, the Duku Highway encompasses most of the scenery that can be appreciated in daily life, and it is breathtaking!

Standing here, I was thinking about the Duku Highway. Fortunately, we got in before the road was closed. My biggest wish for this trip to Xinjiang is to feel the beauty of this beautiful highway. Thank you.

The beauty is breathtaking. All the hard work is worth it at this moment. Pictures will never be as shocking as standing in front of it. I am very happy and moved. Although there was a small accident here, with the smart master Chen and the eloquent little mouth of our lovely wind team, we passed Beiduku safely without any danger. And because of a small accident, I was lucky enough to drive a section of Duku Highway. Driving in the snow is really extraordinary.

The southern section of Duku Highway is a road that is so dangerous that it makes people feel daunted, but so beautiful that it makes people feel breathtaking. The road at the foot of Tianshan Mountain is so dangerous, but the scenery along the way is so beautiful that people always go there without hesitation.

Driving on the Duku Highway, you can enjoy the unique scenery of "different weather every ten miles, four seasons in one day", which is amazing! However, it takes luck to pass through. It is open from June to October and will be closed in special weather.

Because I was with my children, for safety reasons, I didn’t complete the entire Duku journey this time, which is a bit regrettable.

The Duku Highway is divided into two sections, the northern section is from Dushanzi to Nalati and Bayin Grassland, and the southern section is from Bayin to Kuche.

The middle section of the Duku Highway features grassland scenery, cattle, sheep and distant mountains.

The canyon here is deep, with dense forests and green trees. In the distance, there are snow-capped mountains, white clouds and blue sky, and nearby alpine meadows. On the meadows, unique black-headed sheep are leisurely eating grass. The scenery is pleasant and beautiful!

. A seven-character poem

——Duku Highway Tour

It stretches across the towering mountains and canyons with dense trees and a road as narrow as a line.

The strong and handsome horse hides in the woods, and the black-headed sheep is as far away as smoke.

Driving along the Duku Highway, the blue sky and white clouds reflect the snow-capped mountains.

The scenery is beautiful and pleasing to the body and mind, and the classic view is here.

——Excerpt from my travel notes:

Poetry Tour of China: Xinjiang (XI): Beautiful Nalati Grassland, Duku Highway Overlooking the Distant Mountains

By Zhuo Yue |

The starting point of Duku Highway, watching over Tianshan Mountain. After entering the highway, we found a place to play the childhood game of horse jumping to relax for the journey ahead. Continuing forward, we met cyclists on the road again. I really admire their courage. In front of us is the standard building of Duku Highway, the snow-proof corridor. At this time, Hongjie was so excited for some reason. He took off his shirt in this icy and snowy environment to show his muscular body. I said, brother, are you sure you can bear it!!! The background of this section of the road is the snow-capped mountains. It is another scene to cross the snow-capped corridor. There are many spruce trees, with snow-capped mountains. Driving on the most beautiful road, my mood is so beautiful. When we were about to leave Duku, we met a lake. Next to the lake, there was a wishing stone made of stones. Here, I made a wish.

By The sky is the limit |

The first section of the northern section of the Duku Highway is relatively flat, without any big winding bends, and the ups and downs are relatively gentle. It mainly walks in the valley. There are relatively few trees on both sides of the road, and the mountains appear rather desolate. Continuing forward, you will gradually see some clear streams and scattered trees in the canyon, showing the beauty of autumn.

Continue forward, and a waterfall will appear in front of you. This is the Tianpu waterfall on the Duku Highway. The two big red characters of Tianpu are very eye-catching on the cliff. The clear mountain stream rushes down, forming a beautiful landscape. But you must pay attention to safety when taking photos at Tianpu. The rocks beside the waterfall are steep and the water is turbulent. There have been cases where tourists fell into the water and died while taking photos.

Continuing forward, as the mountains became higher and higher, the roads became more and more precipitous, the snow became thicker and thicker, and the peaks along the road gradually presented the scenery of snow-capped mountains. At the top of the mountain, from the north entrance of the Hashileghen Tunnel to the exit of the snow prevention corridor, ice and snow began to appear on the road. Be sure to pay attention to safety when driving on this road.

After passing Qiorma, we continued to head towards Nalati Town, and the scenery gradually became green and forested.

By Guan Guan Ju Jiu |

The Duku Highway is a highlight of our entire trip. It feels like the Potala Palace to Lhasa. It is so mysterious and sacred, and it makes people yearn for it.

The Duku Highway runs from Dushanzi to Kuche, connecting southern Xinjiang with northern Xinjiang. It stretches across mountains and valleys, connecting many ethnic minority settlements. In Qiaoerma, where the Duku Highway passes, a "Qiaoerma" Martyrs Cemetery was built to commemorate the 168 martyrs who died on this heroic road due to avalanches, mudslides and other reasons during the construction of the road.

The highest point is about 4,000 meters above sea level. Looking around, it looks like a kingdom of ice and snow. It is so magnificent!

When we finally drove out of the Duku Highway, we felt relieved but reluctant to leave, and said goodbye without words.

By walk |

Here are snow-capped mountains, spruce and cypress, green grass, golden autumn leaves, rushing rivers in the mountains, magical Yadan landforms, the fiery red Tianshan Mysterious Grand Canyon (Kuqa Grand Canyon), emerald alpine lakes such as the Big and Small Dragon Pond, the bends of the Kaidu River, and the habitat of beautiful swans. For a moment, it seemed as if I had walked through spring, summer, autumn and winter, feeling the magic of "different weather every ten miles, four seasons in one day". Why a road becomes the most beautiful place? Only by walking on it in person can you appreciate its extraordinaryness.

By Sugar Records |

Starting from the oil refining town of Dushanzi, I embarked on the road of life that I had longed to embark on - the Duku Highway! I have long worshiped the four words "Duku Highway". The weather can be different every few miles. It was raining on my head, but the sun was shining brightly not far ahead. There were countless bends. The higher the altitude, the more green it was. When I stepped into this simple gate, I was truly on the Duku Highway. I was particularly excited at the thought of crossing the Tianshan Mountains. In front of the distant mountains, we were so small. This season was past summer. When I first entered, I felt that both sides were very desolate and the colors were a bit autumnal. As I walked up slowly, I really felt that the weather could be different every ten miles. The Duku Highway is not an ordinary road. It is a miraculous road that crosses mountains and ridges, crossing nearly 10 major rivers in the Tianshan Mountains and 4 high-altitude passes with snow all year round. The road is closed from October to May of the following year, so there are a lot of people when it is unblocked. Now more and more people go there every year. There are many more parking places in Duku than on the Yizhao Highway, but there are still traffic jams. The parking places are not big, and it will cause a traffic jam if 10 or so cars are parked. Passing through the Tielimaiti Pass at an altitude of 3,700 meters in Tianshan Mountain, I personally think that the most amazing scenery of this Duku Highway is from here to the top of the mountain. The most beautiful place has to be climbed by yourself. The scenery on the top of the mountain changes in an instant, and you can see different styles every few minutes. The southern section of the Duku Highway is not as beautiful as the northern section, but it is also magnificent.

By Mr. Wang's Travel Notes |

Cross the Daban Pass and set foot on the most precipitous heroic road - the Duku Highway. The winding road goes all the way up and around. On this road, you will see wild flowers blooming on both sides of the road, rivers rushing down in the valleys, herds of cattle and sheep walking on the road, and patches of white snow attached to the peaks or ravines. Of course, the quicksand formed by wind erosion along the way will definitely open your eyes. This is the scenery of four seasons in one day. After driving for about 3.5 hours, the car arrived at the intersection of the Duku Highway and the Yiqiao Highway that crosses the Tianshan Mountains - Qiaoerma, where you can see the Qiaoerma Monument and stop to visit the Martyrs Cemetery.

The Duku Highway was carved out of the mountains to shorten the distance between southern and northern Xinjiang. It is known as the most beautiful highway in China and is the highway that the veteran driver Guigui is most looking forward to during our trip.

Maybe it was because we had too high expectations for the Duku Highway, so when we actually drove on this road and looked around for a while, we found that the scenery we saw was not even as good as what we saw yesterday when we crossed the snow-capped mountains, and we felt a great sense of loss.

Perhaps we didn’t drive to the most beautiful section of the road, and now is not the most beautiful season, we can only comfort ourselves in this way. However, although the scenery is not as beautiful as imagined, the difficulties and obstacles in the construction of this road can be seen. What is meant by "a road carved out of the mountain"? Almost all the roads we drove along the way were embedded in the mountain with the naked eye. The difficulty of carving, and the landslides, snow avalanches, and mudslides that are easily caused after carving the mountain, are all imaginable.

It seems that the reason why the Duku Highway is called the most beautiful highway in China is that its scenery is the most beautiful. This is indeed a matter of opinion, but when people evaluate it in this way, they must have strong emotions in their hearts, because this 560-kilometer road took 9 years to build and was built at the cost of the precious lives of 168 road construction officers and soldiers. Therefore, when passing by the Qorma Martyrs Cemetery, one can't help but bow silently in front of the Duku Highway Monument.

Although the journey is not long, we basically spend the whole day on the road and the whole route is winding. The road conditions are very good on sunny days, but there are a lot of bends. It feels like we have taken countless turns in one day.

The weather was very good, with blue sky and white clouds as the backdrop, it felt like walking in a landscape painting. Along the winding mountain road, you can enjoy snow-capped peaks, mountains, canyons, glaciers, steep mountains, grasslands, cedars, etc. The scenery is infinitely beautiful.

Seeing the brave riders on the Duku Highway reminded me of the brave riders on the Sichuan-Tibet Highway. I give them a thumbs up. Only by experiencing it on the road can you understand their hardships. We drove on the Duku Highway, the most beautiful travel highway in China. Why is a highway rated as the most beautiful? Only those who have walked it can truly understand the answer. The Duku Highway will be closed after the National Day every year, and it is only open to traffic for a few months each year, so we set off in September.

After crossing a snowy mountain, the Duku Highway seemed to have changed seasons, as if it had traveled from winter to autumn. The poplar trees on the roadside were yellow and green. After passing Longchi, driving along the Duku Highway, there were few plants and trees. In the distance were rolling mountains. Although the peaks were not high, the exposed rocks and peaks were all red. The mountains and valleys with almost no grass were desolate and showed a great beauty!

By Sunlight |

The road is steep and the scenery is magnificent! The scenery changes with every step, which is dazzling and breathtaking! Unfortunately, due to the steep mountains, steep rises and falls, narrow and sharp roads, and a cliff on one side, most places cannot be stopped to view the scenery and take pictures. You can only pass by at a glance, and when you look back, it is gone. It is really regrettable! Duku Highway, magnificent and beautiful!!!

By Lang Feifei |

The road winds up from the foothills, with the landscapes on both sides constantly changing, including canyons, forests, grasslands, alpine lakes, glaciers... Duku is filled with the most breathtaking beauty of the four seasons. Perhaps only those who have walked this road can truly understand the perfect combination of twists and turns and the beauty of the world.

By Yooooki |

We found a wild scenic spot on the way, which was really beautiful! We didn't find any particularly beautiful scenery on the rest of the journey. Everyone sighed that the Duku Highway, which is said to be the most beautiful, was not as stunning as imagined. Maybe our expectations were too high, or maybe this "most beautiful" is not only about the scenery, but also about historical and cultural factors.

By Seven Seas Ranger |

The Duku Highway is too gorgeous! Driving on the road is like entering a kaleidoscope-like landscape avenue, surrounded by beautiful scenery all around. It is dazzling and overwhelming. In addition, the weather is good and the road conditions are good, so there is no feeling of hardship. This is probably the compensation for our 3,000-kilometer trek, just like a reward after many days of hard work. The scenery along the way is amazing! Both trips to Xinjiang left me with the feeling of wanting to go again, the northern Xinjiang two years ago, and the Duku Highway this year. From the perspective of landform characteristics, I always think that the road after passing through the mysterious Grand Canyon of Tianshan is the real Duku Highway. (Cattle and sheep are everywhere on this road.) If you like to be on the road, you must like this road more, the Duku Highway, which is a real landscape avenue. Along the way, there are snow-capped mountains, grasslands, forests, canyons, rivers, Yadan..., beautiful sun and wind, surrounded by beautiful scenery, this distant inland scenery is dazzling. Surrounded by towering snow-capped mountains, one could never imagine that there is such a vast alpine grassland hidden in the mountains. Everywhere you look, you can see flocks of cattle and sheep wandering on the pastures, mountain eagles hovering overhead, gurgling streams flowing through the gaps in the meadows, and dotted with yurts. The air is fresh, and driving on this vast grassland that is like a fairyland in the world, it is easy to have an illusion of time travel. In my imagination, Chen Jialuo's first encounter with Princess Xiangxiang should be in such a place.

By Two beautiful peaks |

In addition to meeting our high expectations, the roller coaster-like visual experience made us sigh uncontrollably. As the altitude gradually increased, the mountain road became more rugged, and the surrounding scenery became desolate. But we found that we were not alone. Before coming to Xinjiang, I learned that 168 lives were paid for the construction of this road. As we went deeper, I also realized that the four words "dangerous" were not a joke here. There were sand and stones that broke through the fence. The traces of quicksand on the hillside were still clear. After the quicksand, it was followed by falling rocks. After entering the deep mountains, the deep sorrow is still vivid.

By Quiet |

The scenery of Duku Highway is very beautiful, with snow-capped mountains, green grass, blue sky and white clouds. The altitude is a bit high and cool, which really lives up to its reputation! !

Looking in another direction, there is a new round of beautiful scenery

After entering the other half of the Duku Highway, there are many bends.

Keep driving on the mountain road, the scenery is naturally very good

By I don't believe there is any sorrow in the world |

Here are beautiful snow-capped mountains, endless grasslands and magnificent canyons!

It is difficult for people who have not personally walked through it to appreciate its unique beauty:

The weather is different every ten miles, and there are four seasons in one day...

If you can only take one road in Xinjiang, you must choose the Duku Highway!

If you have the opportunity to complete the entire journey: crossing the Tianshan Mountains, driving all the way to Kuqa, from the flat grasslands to the towering snow-capped mountains, from the snowy cliffs to the sunny southern Xinjiang, you will have a very special experience!

By China-TravelNote users |

Duku Highway is a road I particularly like. I have heard about it before. You can feel the changes of four seasons on one road. There are alpine grasslands on both sides of the road. The dots on the green carpet are sheep grazing. The sheep grazing on the steep places, my God, I feel like they are going to slide down, but they are still chewing grass leisurely. There are several yurts where there are rivers. There are fires in front of the door, and they are busy with milking horses and killing sheep. Duku Highway is a must for many friends who go to Xinjiang for self-driving. In just over 500 kilometers, it covers almost all of Xinjiang, including snow-capped mountains, meadows, forests, canyons, rivers, Yadan, donkey carts, bazaars... You need to taste its charm yourself.

By Xiaokui |

It seems that the only way to drive on the Duku Highway is by yourself!!! You can rent a car to experience this section of the road. If you are a novice, it is safer to find a reliable old driver to take you. There is no big danger on the road, but there are four speed cameras at the starting point of the Duku Highway and the section to Nalati... Everyone should be careful not to exceed the speed limit~

I'm glad that I followed my brother's footsteps and rented a car to experience spring, summer, autumn and winter in one day. It was really beautiful. The previous second there were flowers and green grass all over the mountains, and when I turned a corner, there was a scene of snow-capped mountains, dry grass and heavy snow. I'm so happy when I think about it now.

By Ni.ch |

The 100-meter snow-proof corridor can prevent collapsed snow from the cliff from falling into the deep ditch beside the road, which is a unique sight.

The road is winding, steep and stunning. After that, it is a long downhill, and the mileage is particularly long. Some canyons along the way are very narrow, and some sections of the road have built parking and viewing areas for the convenience of tourists.

The road continued to wind around the mountain, and the grass on the roadside became less and less.

Leaving the mountainous area and entering the plain, an industrial city came into view. This was Dushanzi, and our trip to the northern section of the Duku Highway came to an end.

By Bacoco |

On the Duku Highway, we felt the magic of ice and fire, and got to know the daily life of Kazakh nomads up close. We have to admit that the Duku Highway is beautiful, with beautiful grasslands, towering snow-capped mountains, and the famous 100-meter snow-proof corridor. The Duku Highway is indeed a must-visit place worth recommending, but we would like to make a special statement here that we do not recommend you to follow our night trip to Duku. Although the road on the Duku Highway is so easy for Chongqing veteran drivers, the risk of landslides and falling rocks is huge. For safety reasons, the Duku Highway was closed to the public the day after we crossed the Duku Highway, so crossing the Duku Highway requires not only courage but also luck.

By Doudou Pig |

If you come to Xinjiang, you must run the Duku Highway once. Even if we didn't finish the whole run, we still experienced the different scenery from the bottom of the mountain to the top of the mountain. It was a great sense of accomplishment to run the Duku Highway.

By misonyo |

Played on July 15th.

Full score 5 stars. It is fun to play in the snow in summer. It is recommended to climb the snow mountain for at least 3 hours.

It will be very cold on the top of the mountain unless it is sunny, so you should bring a coat even on sunny days.

When climbing a snowy mountain, never walk on the snow! Because there are rocks under the snow, it is very dangerous. You must walk on the rocks without snow.

The breathtaking and beautiful Duku Highway stretches from Qiorma to Dushanzi.

From Qorma, we went up the mountain again, and some photos of the snow-capped mountains were taken at the top of the mountain.

There is a parking space next to the cave on the top of the mountain. From here, you can walk inside and climb the snow mountain by yourself.

We decided to climb the snow mountain on a whim. There was no road and it was just rocks. There was also a beautiful Love Lake on the top of the mountain.

I took advantage of the two-day weekend to travel along the Duku Highway. The scenery along the way was magnificent. The four seasons of spring, summer, autumn and winter changed in front of my eyes. Sometimes it was full of spring, sometimes it was cold and windy. There were many beautiful scenery that could not be described in any exaggerated words. As the saying goes, if you haven't been to Xinjiang, you don't know how big China is. I think if you don't go to Duku, you don't know the beauty of Xinjiang. This trip was really worthwhile!

Practical tips:

There are still a lot of people traveling on the Duku Highway during the peak season, so be sure to travel during off-peak hours. Basically, all your time on the Duku Highway is spent on the road, but the most beautiful scenery is also on the road. Also, be sure to fill up your gas tank before setting off, otherwise if you refuel on the Duku Highway, there will be so many people that you will have to wait in line for at least an hour.

By Liya |

The scenery along the way is diverse and colorful, you will fall in love with it once you go there.

By Light boat life |

The Duku Highway goes all the way south, crossing high mountains and steep cliffs, and passing through deep valleys. It drizzled during the drive, and the misty scenery was very beautiful. It is definitely worth a visit.

If you have never been to the Duku Highway, which connects southern and northern Xinjiang, how can you say you have been to Xinjiang!

Our journey on the Duku Highway will begin tomorrow, with a sense of longing, awe, expectation and piety.

I have always wanted to travel along the Duku Highway, and I made the trip this year. This highway is really beautiful.

Duku Highway→Dushanzi——Kuche

The ten most beautiful roads in China

Heartbreakingly beautiful

By Zhuang and Orange |

Walking along Duku with admiration, you will feel its magnificence and steepness even more. Some sections of the road are located on cliffs.

We only walked the northern section. There was a lot of traffic on the road, and people from all over the country came to make the pilgrimage. In fact, it was not as amazing as we had imagined, at least not the northern section from Qorma to Dushanzi.

Duku Highway, the road of heroes

Different weather every ten miles, see four seasons in one day

The beauty of the scenery, the danger of the road, and the grandeur are beyond words.

I have to go there if I have the chance. I have walked there by bike and by car, so I have a special feeling for this road.

Driving past the Dushanzi landmark, there are three large stone tablets, and the word "mountain" is visible from 360 degrees. A long time ago, Dushanzi was a mountain range. After crustal movement, it was divided into three mountains, forming such a city. The starting point of the Duku Highway is Dushanzi. This is a road with blood, tears and stories. When the road was built, a armed police soldier died every 3 kilometers. From May to July, you can experience the changes of the four seasons along the road, from the prairie to the snow-capped mountains, and the endless Gobi Desert. However, the Duku Highway is only open for three months a year, and the rest of the time it is closed due to heavy snow.

You can also see wild horses, sheep, cows, wild deer and foxes on the Duku Highway.

The southern section of Duku Highway is a completely different scene after the snow. On the road, it feels like being in a Jiangnan ink painting, full of poetry and painting, and I feel very happy.

I think the surprises brought to us by the journey are not only the scenery we have never seen, but also the interesting things that happen between people.

I don’t know how many highways in China are known as the Sky Road, but I only know that the Duku Highway runs north and south. Only after you have walked on it will you realize that its beauty is beyond words.

By Body Master |

Driving on the Duku Highway at night on a rainy day. The heavy rain and fog caused poor visibility, and the mountainous roads tested driving skills!

When you stop to take pictures, be sure to pay attention to the road section and stop in places with parking areas and observation decks, otherwise it will be too dangerous!

By Don’t rush to pursue your dreams |

Because it was late August, the weather was still good and the mountain was not closed. Due to the bad weather conditions, this section of the road is often closed even in July and August, not to mention other times. So if you want to experience the magnificence of the Duku Highway, you must choose a good time to go.

Along the Duku Highway, there are many Kazakh herdsmen selling snow lotus flowers, each priced between 10 and 20 yuan, depending on the size of the flower.

The beauty of scenery often comes from the beauty of the heart.

What our eyes see is nothing but the scenery in our hearts!

Sister Ling was on the Duku Highway that crosses the Tianshan Mountains. She looked at the steep road, the towering snow-capped mountains, the flowers blooming on the meadows even if no one was appreciating them, and the white clouds lingering around the mountains, and she cried three times.

I believe that in the days to come, whenever I think of our trip to Xinjiang, the Tianshan Mountains, and the Duku Highway, I will be moved by the emotions that once touched my soul.

I bragged to the guy at the front desk of the hotel, and then I learned that driving to Duku in summer can experience sitting in the snow and eating watermelon. Although the Duku Highway is beautiful, due to the dangerous road conditions, the road is often closed after snowing in October, but the road closure is not necessarily the entire section, and it may be adjusted every day according to the weather during the National Day. Therefore, you must pay attention to the road conditions in advance. When driving on Duku, my friend had a fever, so the steering wheel was handed over to me. Although I was always overtaken at a speed of 50 yards, I still feel that I can brag about driving in Duku for the rest of my life~~~ Because I was too nervous, I didn’t dare to stop to take pictures when the main driver was drowsy. . . . Drive all the way to the foot of the snow-capped mountains. The small lake beside the Duku Highway is as blue as Haizi~~~~

By Impression of My Hometown |

Circling through the twists and turns, crossing from the north of Tianshan Mountain to the south of Tianshan Mountain, we witnessed the four seasons of the Duku Highway, frost, fog, rain and snow. The lonely spring in autumn, the dark green summer in autumn, the serious autumn in autumn, and the high-altitude winter in autumn.

The starting point of the Duku Highway is Kuqa County, and the end point is located in the Duzi Mountain area in northern Xinjiang. This is only a section of the entire G217 National Highway. Because of the unique scenery along the way, it has an exclusive name. It is considered an Internet celebrity highway. I have long wanted to experience it. After running, I knew why it was so popular, because it is like a condensed version of 318. You can spend the shortest time to experience the scenery and landforms of the north and south of the Tianshan Mountains, from desert Gobi to alpine canyons, from wetland grasslands to spruce forests. There may not be many such highways in the world, so if you drive to Xinjiang and don’t come to the Duku Highway, it will be a huge loss.

Shortly after leaving Kuqa, a stretch of Yardang appeared on both sides of the road. This is a type of landform unique to the arid northwest region.

As soon as the car drove out of the hotel, we were greeted by a beautiful scene - the grassland was glowing in the sun, there was a layer of mist on the distant mountains, and snow-capped mountains were ahead of the road.

By Rabdosia rubescens |

The winding road appeared and disappeared from time to time, bringing us all kinds of imagination and excitement. I drove the Duku Highway again. I was amazed at the grandeur and steepness of the Tianshan Mountains.

As if copied, the road that appears from time to time at the foot of the mountain extends far away. With one side facing the mountain and the other facing the river, the road is very dangerous. Along the way, traces of various geological disasters can be seen everywhere. Driving on it under the snow-capped mountains and shaded by green grass is very rewarding. The most precipitous section of the mountain is a cliff that flashes in front of our eyes from time to time, and the road is tortuous. Passing through the mountains, the clouds are almost above our heads. After more than half an hour of continuous climbing and then going down the mountain, the scenery is even more verdant, and in a blink of an eye we are approaching the Yili River Valley. Flying eagles, towering snow-capped mountains, verdant spruce, yurts with curling smoke, verdant grassland wetlands, gurgling mountain streams, gorgeous wild flowers, leisurely horses, cattle and sheep scattered on the grassland foraging... Most of the beautiful scenery of nature is concentrated here. Today I once again witnessed the precipitousness and beauty of the Duku Highway, which is the dedication of generations of road builders and road protectors! It is really sad to see more and more white pollutants along the way. I hope that people walking here can restrain their behavior. After all, we should cherish the beautiful scenery! Looking back on this road, it is an absolutely unforgettable road. It is winding, steep and stunning all the way, gathering all the shocking beauty of Xinjiang.

Because it is dangerous, I feel that the beauty along the way is so rare. If I can see its magnificence in this life, I will definitely feel a sense of happiness and satisfaction. Why is a road the most dangerous road? Why is it selected as the most beautiful road? Only those who have walked this road will truly understand. We walked most of the Duku Highway. The whole car felt that the beautiful scenery along the way was very impactful. My son said that he would come to this national highway again in the future and walk to Kuche.

318 With the blessing of Tibetan Buddhism, there is more respect and yearning in my heart. However, Duku is even better in terms of scenery and experience: from the flames to the sea water, there is only a mountain between them. This mountain separates us from the world’s wind and frost, grudges, culture and customs, and loneliness.

The occasional rockfall reminds us of the officers and soldiers who opened up the mountains and roads.

This is a heroic road, with a total length of 561 kilometers. A tunnel was dug through the "inaccessible" pass, a road was built on the pass that even gazelles would not dare to approach, and insurmountable mountains were crossed. Countless people died here for this.

It is no exaggeration to say that you can appreciate the beauty of four seasons in one day on this road heading north from Duku. It was still summer before passing the cave, and it was winter when you exit the cave. The scenery is unbeatable!

By HCL |

The Duku Highway has to cross several mountains and has many bends, but it is still somewhat inferior to that in Tibet.

There are mountains, water, grasslands and canyons, but there is no signal. It is so beautiful to look at the grassland full of cattle and sheep.

By On the road... |

Driving on the straight road on the prairie, the mountains and clouds on the horizon merge into one, accompanying you all the way, which is quite spectacular. The Bayinbuluke Prairie section of the Duku Highway has endless green fields, overlapping mountains, abundant water and grass, and a flat and open road. The road stretches straight to the snow-capped mountains for dozens of kilometers. Driving on such a road gives you a feeling of flying. On both sides of the road are mountains and the Kaidu River wetland, which snakes its way to the horizon.

At the end of the grassland, we began to enter the mountainous area. The vehicle moved along the river valley. At this time, the landscape was different and the peaks on both sides were more steep than before.

By Take your wife on a trip |

The section from Kuqa to Bayinbuluke is the Kuqa section of the most beautiful highway in Xinjiang, the Duku Highway, passing through the Yadan landform, the mysterious Tianshan Grand Canyon scenic area, and the Big and Small Dragon Pond viewing platforms. After traveling along the Sichuan-Tibet Highway 318, the beauty of this section refreshed my perception of the most beautiful highway. It wins in the variety of geological forms, the scenery of the next second is always a surprise, and the moment when the car shuttles from the Gobi, Yadan, and mountains to the snowy ridges and grasslands.

By Nanaguo |

We marveled at the beautiful scenery along the way. Finally, it was no longer the typical scenery of Kanas and Yili. Here, the mountains were covered with clouds and snow-capped mountains. The most beautiful section of the Duku Highway is from Dushanzi to Qiaoerma, which is also the section where the road is closed. It is a pity that we could not walk to this section on this loop. Moreover, Duku is at its peak of beauty in June and July.

We took the northern section of the Duku Highway, passing through Nalati Town, and from Nalati Scenic Area to Gongnaisi Checkpoint and heading north on National Highway 217. We really felt the changes of the four seasons in one day! Climbing up the hill, going up the mountain... getting closer and closer to the snow-capped mountains, it felt like the white clouds were just above our heads! It had just rained on the top of the mountain, and the road was very slippery! I parked the car on the side of the road, stood on the shoulder of the road and looked into the distance... Keep going, there are beautiful scenery everywhere. When we were ready to go down the mountain, the clouds floating in the distance were already overcast, and it started to drizzle in an instant, and the sleet spread out like this, and for a while we entered the foggy area. The way down the mountain, although the vegetation was sparse and the scenery was not as beautiful as the way up the mountain, it was still magnificent everywhere. (The next day, a friend who also drove from Beijing to Xinjiang told me on WeChat in Nalati Town that the Duku Highway was closed...) We were still very lucky and successfully crossed.

Duku Highway, as the name implies, is a highway connecting Dushanzi District in the north and Kuche County in the south. It crosses the Tianshan Mountains and is more than 500 kilometers long. Along the way, there are rich geological features and changeable weather, including snowy mountains and grasslands and rivers. Sometimes the sun is shining, and sometimes it is freezing cold. This brings countless beautiful scenery, but also brings unimaginable difficulties to the construction process of the year. Many soldiers stayed there forever. Although the Duku Highway has been under continuous repair, some winding mountain sections are still dangerous, so we remind you to pay attention to safety.

We entered the area in the middle and slightly north. The first thing that caught our eyes was the lush trees on the roadside and a clear blue river with fast-flowing water. It was clear that there would be a steep mountain road behind.

The river water in Xinjiang is basically of this pure color, which looks particularly comfortable.

Sure enough, soon there was a long uphill road, and the river gradually moved away from us, leaving only a deep canyon.

However, once we climbed over the hill, the scenery suddenly changed, and we saw a huge, boundless plain. All the mountains seemed to disappear in the distance, and the only road stretched straight out as if it had no end. We both marveled at the magnificent scenery in front of us. This was the first change we experienced on the Duku Highway.

It was sunset at this moment, and the low light made the empty road look layered, deep and three-dimensional. In such a scenery, my mind suddenly became open, and my body seemed to merge with everything in front of me.

We continued to head south. Although the weather was a little gloomy, it could not hide the beauty of the Duku Highway.

As we continued to move forward, the scenery gradually changed again, and this time even the weather changed significantly. The plain gradually rose in altitude, and then turned into a continuous stretch of mountain tops. As the altitude rose, the temperature also dropped, and the snow-capped mountains seemed to be within reach. This was the second change we experienced on the Duku Highway.

There was no vegetation on the hillside, and the exposed rocks showed signs of rain and mountain torrents. We were very nervous when driving on the winding mountain road, fearing that there would be falling rocks or potholes blocking the road. I kept my eyes and ears open, observing all directions as much as possible to avoid possible dangers. But I have to say that the scenery is still beautiful - a kind of steep, vigorous and majestic beauty.

I never thought I would have the chance to set foot on this road before I set out! I was lucky enough to take this trip before the road was completely closed this year! It takes more than 500 kilometers and 9 hours to drive from Bayinbuluke back to Urumqi

The Duku Highway is 270 kilometers long, accounting for about half of the total length of the highway. The scenery along the way is changing, with snow-capped mountains, rivers, cliffs, and snow-capped mountains. It is so shocking that I can't take pictures! I am also a driver who has driven through Duku.

I feel a little bit cool hahaha

The most beautiful Duku Road

We returned to Kuitun from Nalati via Qiaoerma and Tangbula. We were so lucky. It rained all day and all night, but the Duku Highway, which is open all year round, was still open to us. The most beautiful Duku Highway, with a snow wall comparable to that of Japan's Tateyama, was eye-catching. My group members shouted to me, "Captain, you have to wear black to see it." I shouted to my group members, "Does the areola count?"

By Knickers |

Walking on this road, we crossed countless mountains. The scenery of the Duku Highway was like large patches of colors painted on a painting. It was a lens infinitely stretched and extended, and it was the vast and magnificent beauty of Xinjiang.

By Na Yatou's Poetry and Distance |

The beginning section was nothing special, just a few more bends, but the road condition was pretty good. The further we went, the more its charm became apparent. The altitude was getting higher and higher, and we were getting closer and closer to the snow-capped mountains. Slowly, the snow-capped mountains were under our feet, and as we drove forward, we were completely surrounded by the snow-capped mountains. I got off the car and reached out to touch the snow on the ground. Although I was born in the north and am very familiar with snow, it was also extremely exciting to be able to touch the snow on the Tianshan Mountains, so much so that I jumped up to take pictures.

In this deep mountain, there is not only a flat road, but also a small lake. There is a thin layer of ice on the edge of the lake. I didn't dare to touch the lake water because I thought it would be very cold.

If you continue walking forward, you will find a hidden waterfall here. The cascading water makes this quiet mountain full of vitality.

We walked two sections of the Duku Highway. One section started from Dushanzi and ended at Nalati. The other section started from Nalati and ended at Bayinbuluke. Of course, the first section was more amazing. The Duku Highway is really the most beautiful highway in China. Along the way, there are Gobi oases, continuous mountains, magnificent glaciers, beautiful forests, grasslands, and alpine lakes. There are so many elements that it is dazzling. From the foot of the mountain to the top of the mountain, you can experience the scenery of the four seasons in one day. It is magnificent and beautiful. Only those who have been there will know its beauty.

By time |

It is said to be more beautiful than 318. The beauty of this road needs to be experienced carefully to be shocking.

Generally speaking, it is not easy to have such a highway in China. Please allow me to pay my highest respects to the 168 PLA comrades who sacrificed their lives in building this highway and to the many other senior officers who shed their sweat and blood on this highway. To the Heroes' Road!!! Without them, there would not be so many beautiful highway hymns, and more people would not discover the majesty and magnificence of this vast land.

This road shows its full potential among the mountains, like a graceful girl... or a dragon emerging from the water...

I walked a short section of the Duku Highway and it was really beautiful. I will definitely come back in the summer if I have the chance and walk the entire Duku Highway to make my life worthwhile.

By Practice |

The road is very dangerous, with one side facing the mountain and the other facing the river. The driver, who was a first-class driver, did not dare to be careless and drove carefully along the way, fearing that there would be falling rocks.

Duku was originally a road from Dushanzi to Kuche. We took the southern section of Duku, entered from Nalati, crossed the Tianshan Mountains, and went down to Kuche from north to south, passing through forests, mountains, rivers, snow-capped mountains, lakes, river valleys, grasslands, and canyons. After seeing the road, it was really Duku! I really like this road. It is worthy of being the most beautiful road in Xinjiang! It is worthy of its name! It lives up to its reputation! I almost saw all the scenery I saw before in Duku again. The magic of this road is that you can see four seasons in one day, and the scenery is different every ten miles! It feels like you only need to take the Duku Highway to travel in Xinjiang.

Crossing the Tianshan Mountains and driving all the way to Kuqa, from the flat grassland to the towering snow-capped mountains, and from the snowy cliffs to the sunny southern Xinjiang, it is really a very special experience.

The closure of Duku Highway was inevitable. Before reaching the mountainside, the snow on the roadside was already very thick. It really made people feel that "there are many winds and snows at the top of the mountain".

By Liyi |

Duku Highway is the most beautiful highway in China. It is only open for 4-5 months each year depending on the weather. In the hot August, it is covered with snow.

There are often herds of cattle and sheep on the road. There will not be traffic jams, but there will definitely be sheep jams.

By Weifu |

Warning signs can be seen everywhere along the way, reminding drivers and tourists to pay attention to driving safety. However, I have to say that this road is so beautiful, with cliffs on the outside and steep cliffs on the inside. The continuous hairpin bends and winding mountain roads take us to the top of the mountain. Looking out of the car window, all the beautiful scenery can be seen. However, large rocks often roll down from the mountain and cut off the road. We passed such a section twice along the way, and many large trucks were blocked on one side, waiting for the tow truck.

There are scattered yurts in the mountains from time to time, indicating that there are also herding families here. We also saw Aobao on the way. As a Mongolian, it is a must to worship Aobao when you can see it on the plateau road at an altitude of more than 2,000 meters.

When we were about to drive off the highway and reach Bayinbuluke, the road suddenly became straight, and a tall snow-capped mountain stood in front of us, which was very spectacular!

By Az-Meow |

Although the sky was not good, it was still stunning, especially the autumn lake view in the snow and the blue in the afterglow.

By Right Here |

The beauty of Duku Highway should be ranked first among domestic highways. The most beautiful part should be the southern section, which is more colorful.

When you walk on this road, you must be grateful! Please don't litter! Every immoral behavior of yours is seen by the soldiers who sacrificed their lives to build the road! Please be kind!

Driving along the Duku Highway, there were so many beautiful sights and not many cars, and I couldn’t help but stop to take photos at every parking area.

When we reached the highest point of the northern section, it started to snow lightly. The altitude here has reached 3,490 meters. After getting off the car, we could have close contact with the snow on the roadside.

By Silk Strings 0022 |

Fortunately, we arrived at the entrance of Duku Highway on time at 1pm. The management staff smiled and said: You are so lucky. If you were one minute later, the car would not be allowed to enter. Because Duku Highway is quite steep, it is not allowed to pass at night, so there are time limits for entry at each entrance. We calculated that we must reach the safe area before dark. The entry time of Xinyuan entrance is before 1pm. So lucky.

The danger of Duku Highway is obviously greater than that of Yizhao Highway. As we wind our way up the mountain, my ears start to sense the altitude. We are already at 3,200 meters. The vegetation has become sparse and the mountains are covered with snow. We are crossing the snow-capped mountains.
