Jizu Mountain

鸡足山

The mountain is named Jiuzu Mountain because it looks like a chicken’s foot. It is a famous Buddhist holy place. It is said to be the place of practice of Kasyapa, a great disciple of Sakyamuni.
The eight scenic spots of Jishan are the snow on Cangshan Mountain, the mist on Erhai Lake, the waterfall piercing the clouds, the clear thunder on Huashou Mountain, the autumn moon in the pagoda courtyard, the Buddha light on Tianzhu Mountain, the pine waves in the valleys and the reflection of the heavy rocks.
The most important historical sites in the scenic area are Zhusheng Temple, Huayan Temple, Huideng Temple, Jinding Temple and Lengyan Tower, which can be visited one by one along the scenic route.
The Jizu Mountain Pilgrimage Festival is held from the first to the fifteenth day of the first lunar month every year. There is an endless stream of pilgrims coming and going, making it very lively.

Jizu Mountain is located in the mountains running from north to south on the east bank of Erhai Lake. Its highest peak is more prominent than the surrounding peaks. It is suitable for watching the sunrise to the east and overlooking Cangshan Mountain on the west bank of Erhai Lake to the west. This is the natural condition that makes Jizu Mountain famous. Then there is the legend that it was the dojo of Kasyapa, the great disciple of Sakyamuni, and it has an extraordinary religious and cultural status. It has a certain influence not only in Yunnan, but also in the whole Southeast Asia (probably because there are no higher mountains after the Southeast Peninsula), so the guide signs in the scenic area are not only in Chinese and English, but also in Thai.

From the gate of the scenic area to the top of the mountain, there are two sections of sightseeing buses and one section of cable car. You must take a car for the first two sections of the sightseeing bus route, because there is basically no scenery on foot. I have seen some travel notes before that you can drive in and drive the two sections of the sightseeing bus route, but we were stopped when we drove to the gate, and we don’t know what doorway we need to take to drive in. As for why the sightseeing bus is divided into two sections, I really don’t understand. My mother guessed that it was so that both groups of people could share the benefits... Of course, there is a Zhusheng Temple at the transfer point of the sightseeing bus at both ends, which is also good. You can take the opportunity to walk and see it.

The entrance of the scenic area is more than 1,800 meters above sea level. The end of the two sightseeing buses, that is, the lower station of the cable car, is 2,600 meters above sea level. The last section of the cable car goes straight up 600 meters and finally reaches the peak of Jizu Mountain at more than 3,200 meters. Therefore, it is recommended to take the cable car up and walk down the mountain for the last section of the road.

Because there are several temples worth visiting on the way down the mountain. For example, Jiuzu Mountain is known as the dojo of Kasyapa. Other temples still follow the rules to place Sakyamuni Buddha in the main hall, but also leave a small temple dedicated to Kasyapa, called Kasyapa Hall. There is also a copper tile hall with copper-mixed tiles on the roof. The most interesting is a place called Huashou Gate + Prince Pavilion. Huashou Gate is a large piece of steep cliff that has been neatly sunken into the shape of a door. There is a small attic next to it called Prince Pavilion. Maybe because of the special shape of Huashou Gate, it attracts many very devout believers to sit under this cliff and only recite scriptures without burning incense. Some people also hang a lot of Hada on the cliff in the air of Huashou Gate.

Of course, the most classic place is the Jinding Temple on the top of the mountain, which has a white Lengyan Pagoda and a golden Golden Palace. The weather in Yunnan is often very good, and under the blue sky, the Golden Palace and the white pagoda are very eye-catching.

Here you can feel the influence of religion that transcends ethnic groups, and see Bai and Tibetan people wearing their respective traditional ethnic styles coming to burn incense.

If you come from Kunming by train, you can get off at Xiangyun Station, then take a bus to Binchuan, and take a minibus from Binchuan to Jizu Mountain. If you take the high-speed rail to Dali Station, turn right at the exit of the station to Dali Bus Station, where there are minibuses that go directly to Jizu Mountain, but the buses only run at 8:00, 9:00, 10:00, and 11:00. If you miss the direct bus, you can also take a bus to Binchuan, and then transfer to a minibus from Binchuan to Jizu Mountain, which is still quite convenient and has more buses. At the gate, the driver will stop and wait for passengers to buy tickets, and then take them directly to Shizhong Temple. Some tourists who hike or book accommodation at the foot of the mountain will choose to get off at Siqian Village.

Because our feet were injured, we did not choose the hiking route. We got off the bus at Shizhong Temple and walked towards Zhusheng Temple and the sightseeing bus transfer station. We had a meal at Xianghui Street next to Shizhong Temple. Pay attention to the road signs. There is a monkey viewing area in the middle. You can buy things to feed them. You must be quick when feeding them, otherwise they will directly pull your clothes and bags. However, we met a little monkey without a left hand. It was just quietly eating melon seeds there. Unfortunately, our bread was fed and only two packs of biscuits were left. We helped it tear the biscuits and threw them to it. You can choose to ride a horse or take a sightseeing bus to the place where you can take the cable car. The horse ride is 20 yuan, and the sightseeing bus is 10 yuan one way.

The sightseeing bus we took was quite far from the place where we took the cable car. We got off the bus and took the cable car. It was very fast and we could go up the mountain in about 5 minutes. After getting off the cable car and climbing up for a distance, we passed Xianghui Street, where there were food and drinks for sale and accommodation. Because we planned to watch the sunrise the next day, we found an accommodation on Xianghui Street, but the conditions were relatively difficult. After putting down our things, we continued to climb up to Jinding Temple. But because we walked straight along the stairs, we walked directly to the back door and entered from the back door. There should be a road to the main entrance of Shuguangtai Jinding Temple. The scenery on the mountain is very good, but it is really cold, very cold, very cold. Fortunately, there is an electric blanket on the bed in the hotel.

The next morning at 6:30 the sky was a little red, but we still waited until 7 o'clock before the sun came out. The sunrise was beautiful and spectacular, and we also saw the mountains shrouded in clouds and mist, which was also beautiful. After watching the sunrise and climbing up? We went down the mountain after eating a bowl of casserole rice noodles. We also took the cable car down the mountain, and then took the sightseeing bus to the Jade Buddha Temple. When we arrived at the Stone Bell Temple at 10 o'clock, the minibus that went directly to Dali Station at 11 o'clock was full and left. So we chose to take a minibus to Binchuan, and then take a bus from Binchuan to Xiaguan, which was also very convenient. You don't have to wait for the direct bus, because sometimes the seats are fully booked and you may not be able to get a seat.

Attached is a photo of the small hotel we stayed at on the top of the mountain. If you eat and stay at the hotel, you can drink ginger soup for free. If you want to stay at the top of the mountain, you can also choose the accommodation department of Jinding Temple. I heard that the conditions are relatively better, and the price may be slightly higher than that of Xianghui Street.

As a tourist attraction and Buddhist holy land, Jizu Mountain, which is "resplendent with glory", is "drinking the light" and looks forward to and welcomes you to "meet at the sacred mountain"! Buddhism in Jizu Mountain once declined in the late Qing Dynasty, and only more than ten temples remained, which were already dilapidated. The revival of Buddhism in Jizu Mountain in modern times should be attributed to Master Xuyun.

By Come and go |

The incense is very strong, but the overall scenery is average. You can come to burn incense and watch the sunrise. If you don't watch the sunrise and burn incense, it's not worth visiting.

Jiuzu Mountain is the dojo of the first patriarch of Zen Buddhism, Venerable Kashyapa, the birthplace of Zen Buddhism, a Buddhist holy place renowned in South Asia and Southeast Asia, and one of the ten famous Buddhist mountains in China. It is known for its grandeur, beauty, seclusion, strangeness and uniqueness. Mi Fu, a calligrapher in the Northern Song Dynasty, called it "the best mountain in the world". Many scholars and writers, including Mi Fu, Dong Qichang, Wu Weiye, Li Zhi, Xu Xiake, Sun Yat-sen, Liang Qichao, Xu Beihong and Zhao Puchu, have written poems and essays for Jiuzu Mountain.

The town of Jizushan is a very ordinary place

The transportation is not convenient and the tickets are quite expensive.

By on my way |

I took the bus all the way and was completely free. I planned to worship Buddha very devoutly from Lijiang to Binchuan and then to Jizu Mountain, so I didn't have to take the bus or walk that much. I found it was too tiring halfway, but fortunately I arrived at Jinding and worshipped Buddha and burned incense as I wished.

If you hike up the entire Jizu Mountain from Zhusheng Temple, it usually takes 3 to 4 hours to reach the top. If you can't climb the mountain, you can also reach the top without walking. That is, take a sightseeing bus from the mountain gate parking lot to the Yuhuang Pavilion parking lot, the fare is 60 yuan; the cable car fee from Yuhuang Pavilion to Jinding: round trip: 75 yuan; one-way up the mountain: 45 yuan; one-way down the mountain: 35 yuan; you can also ride a horse up the mountain, the price depends on the distance.

Jizu Mountain is a 4A scenic spot, and the roads in the scenic area are well built. In fact, it is not difficult to climb, but there is a section that is quite tough. It took me 3 and a half hours to hike from the entrance to the Golden Summit. The hiking trail is also the path for monkeys. There are few people hiking up the mountain in the afternoon, and there are basically no people on the road, so you can see a lot of birds.

I have to say that the vegetation of Jizu Mountain is one of the best preserved tourist attractions in Yunnan. The vegetation is really quite dense.

It was 5 o'clock in the morning, and there was no need for an alarm clock, because everyone staying here wanted to watch the sunrise, so there was a lot of noise outside when watching the sunrise. It was really colder in the morning than at night, and the cold wind was really biting. Although it was the off-season, there were still dozens of people staying overnight on the top of the mountain to watch the sunrise.

Jiuzu Mountain is a Buddhist holy place well-known in South Asia and Southeast Asia, one of the top ten famous Buddhist mountains in China, and the dojo of Kashyapa Bodhisattva. It is known as "Jiuzu is the most beautiful in the world", "Lingshan Buddhist Capital and Tourist Attraction", "Heavenly Buddhist Kingdom", and "The First Buddhist Mountain in China". Going to Jizu Mountain requires a lot of physical strength, but there are also ways to walk that don't require that much physical strength. Jizu Mountain is the tenth largest Buddhist holy place in China and the dojo of Kasyapa Bodhisattva. I am not a devout Buddhist, I only go there to watch the sunset and sunrise, but the weather is not good, I didn't catch up with the sunset or the sunrise. But I met some other unforgettable scenes, such as the rainbow on the top of the mountain, the cute elves in the woods, and the devout believers. I drove to the gate of the scenic spot at more than 18 o'clock in the afternoon, and there were still tickets for sale. You can also buy tickets. Adult tickets are 80 yuan/person and student tickets are 40 yuan/person. This is the price of buying tickets directly at the entrance of the scenic spot. Qunar.com has more than 60 yuan, but you need to book tickets one day in advance. You can't book on the same day, so you can book tickets in advance. I stayed in a farmhouse halfway up the mountain that day, 30 yuan/bed, and there were also rooms for about 100 yuan each. The prices are not expensive.

It is worth going, the scenery is beautiful, it is recommended to buy tickets online, drive to Zhusheng Temple and park, climb a short mountain road to the sightseeing bus, after taking the bus up, you can buy a ticket to take the cable car or climb up the mountain. If you are physically fit, you can climb up. The scenery cannot be experienced by taking the cable car, although it is a bit tiring. However, the cable car can be taken one way.

The entrance ticket to the mountain is 80 yuan, which can be purchased in groups (64/person), and the cable car is 45/person for one way and 75/person for round trip. You can drive from the gate at the foot of the mountain to Zhushou Temple (the mountain road is rugged and winding, so you need to drive carefully), then walk to the sightseeing bus point (there will be a horseman who will ask you if you want to ride a horse? He exaggerates that it is 7 kilometers, but in fact it is not, and it will take 15 minutes), and take the sightseeing bus to the cable car station.

Jiuzu Mountain is a Buddhist holy place. Please do not make loud noises, do not take photos inside the temple, and worship Buddha in a civilized manner.

Jizu Mountain is worth a visit. Few people go there for travel. But Buddhist friends should go there. I heard it is very effective. We took a bus from Xiaguan Station for 30 yuan. It was a 7-seater car. It was very comfortable. The ticket was 80 yuan. Students with a student ID and officers with a half-price ID were 40 yuan. When you get there, you can buy a ticket and take it to the middle of the mountain. When you get there, you can choose to take the cable car for 10 yuan. You can choose to exercise mountain climbing. We climbed up for 4 hours and stopped frequently. It only takes about 10 minutes to take the bus. The cable car goes up for 45 yuan and comes down for 30 yuan. The scenery is super beautiful when you sit on the cable car. It only takes a few minutes. Before going to Jinding Temple, you must worship at Huashou Gate. There are tear springs on both sides to wash your eyes. It feels very comfortable after cooling down. It is recommended to stay in Jinding Temple for one night. 30 yuan per bed. You can go to the back mountain to watch the sunset at 7:20 pm. Vegetarian lunch and dinner are 10 yuan per serving, but you can eat as much as you want, but don't waste it. 5 yuan in the morning. You can get up at 6 am to attend the morning service to cleanse your soul. After the morning service, you can just watch the sunrise. The sunrise at Jinding Temple is super beautiful

In addition to being a famous Buddhist mountain, Jizu Mountain also has beautiful and open scenery, especially the sunrise over the sea of clouds is amazing!

By Ding Hongyi |

Jiuzu Mountain is pretty good. In addition to being a Buddhist holy place, it has not been fully developed. Apart from the disadvantage of inconvenient transportation, it is still very suitable for sightseeing. You can ride a mule or a horse on the horse trail in the mountains. However, because horses are more expensive and cannot show speed when climbing mountains, mules are more popular in Jiuzu Mountain. Mules are better at climbing mountains than I thought, at least better than me (*^__^*)

Riding a mule is quite fun. The groom would walk by and give commands to the mule from time to time. I sat on the mule's back alone and shuttled through the mountains and forests. Sometimes the mule walked a little too far, and I was a little worried.

In addition to riding horses and mules, you can also take a tourist bus or cable car to the mountain. In terms of price, horse riding is more expensive than a tourist bus, and the price is not much different from the cable car, but slightly more expensive. A tourist bus charges 10 yuan for a 10-minute ride, while a horse ride costs 50 yuan for the same distance, which takes about 50 minutes. Although it takes more time and money, it is more interesting. It is rare to experience the fun of climbing on a horse trail. It is strongly recommended to ride a horse or mule when going to Jizu Mountain.

The transportation is not very convenient. The bus from Dali Xiaguan to Binchuan takes the township road and serves as an inter-town bus. It is always picking up people and going up and down along the way. It takes 1 hour and 40 minutes to 2 hours to drive, and there is a lot of dust in the process. The minibus from Binchuan to Jizu Mountain is only dispatched when it is full. It usually takes at least half an hour, and it may take more than an hour to wait. It is full of uncertainty, and the driver likes to overload. In addition, Jizu Mountain is quite good except that the ticket is a bit expensive. It is a Buddhist holy place and you can ride horses. The environment is good, the scenery is good, and it is full of wild fun.

By The king is jade |

Jizu Mountain in Binchuan is said to be the place where Mahakasyapa entered into meditation while holding his robe, and is also considered the place where Chinese Zen Buddhism was passed down.

By Hai Weilan |

At 3:30 in the morning, the alarm clock rang. I got up and looked out the window. There were stars and the sunrise was going to be a good show. I got up and packed up. With guilt, I woke up the temple's gatekeeper and set off. It was pitch black all around, but since it was a scenic spot, the way up the mountain was easy to find. Along the way, there were only stars, the sound of running water, and various insects under the flashlight for company. Climbing the stairs was still a relatively tiring exercise. After walking in the dark for about an hour and a half, my mental tolerance reached its limit. The road signs only indicated the direction, not the distance. I didn't know how long it would take to walk like this, and my son had already started to pant. At this time, I found a person in the rest area in front. When I approached, I saw that it was an auntie who was buying water. She warmly invited us to sit down and rest. I thought of the aunties at the rest points in Tiger Leaping Gorge. It was not easy for them. So I sat down and bought a can of Red Bull and three sticks of incense. I asked how far we had to go to the Golden Summit. The old lady said we had already walked halfway and many people had already gone up. This news undoubtedly comforted my uneasy heart. It was more than five in the morning. We had walked halfway in more than an hour. We must be able to reach the top of the mountain at sunrise at seven o'clock. We regained our confidence and set off. After a while, we passed the place where the cable car was. After that, the road began to become steep. Each section of the stairs was connected by dozens of steps. After a continuous ascent, the view in front of us became open. In the distance, we could vaguely see the sparse lights in the early morning. Although there were clouds in the sky, we could still see the stars. At this time, more and more people began to walk on the road, in groups of three or five, encouraging each other to go up and up. I also kept encouraging my son and counting the stairs. When the number reached 1450 with difficulty, we finally saw the Golden Summit in front. At this time, the sky was also dawning, and the Golden Summit was shrouded in thick fog and extremely cold. The crowd all looked in one direction, waiting for the sunrise in exhaustion and coldness. The fog was too thick, and I had almost no hope for the sunrise. After a while, the crowd sighed, and when I turned around, the sun appeared in the fog. At this moment, the fog in the sky in front of the right magically dissipated, revealing the blue sky, and below was a magnificent sea of clouds. I was so excited about the changes that took place in just a few seconds, as if I had seen the Buddha's light.

Jizu Mountain is still worth going. It feels good to be on the road all the time. It takes 4 hours to go back and forth.

The ticket price for Jizu Mountain is 60 yuan per person, which is a very reasonable price. This place is indeed a good place with beautiful scenery and effective Bodhisattva. However, if your wish comes true, you must go back to fulfill it, otherwise you will not have the chance in the future.

Jiuzu Mountain has been haunting my dreams for a long time. Let me first give you a brief introduction. Jiuzu Mountain is the dojo of Gautama Buddha’s great disciple, Venerable Kasyapa. The famous story of “Buddha picked up a flower and Kasyapa smiled” is here. The ancient tree has gone through many vicissitudes of life and is accompanied by the Zen bells and evening drums of Jiuzu Mountain day and night.

By Disappearing... |

Along the way, we were all very curious about why there was no one on Jizu Mountain, but when we thought about the fact that we came during the off-season and we went up the mountain too early, this only concern was dispelled.

But the scenery along the way is very beautiful, which is worth the extra mountain road we walked.

Like many famous mountains, Jizu Mountain has a scenic shuttle bus to the cable car station, and then you can take the cable car to the top of the mountain, but I have always believed that "the scenery is on the road", so I decided to climb the mountain.

It was neither a festival nor a holiday, so there were very few tourists and pilgrims along the way. I started out with a few students from Dali University, but we gradually got separated due to our different paces. The Jizu Mountain trail was well maintained, with towering old trees on the side of the road, many of which had cracked trunks.

One of the five major Buddhist holy sites in China, the dojo of Kasyapa... You can climb from Shizhong Temple at 2 a.m. and arrive at around 6:30 a.m. Watching the sunrise and listening to the monks chanting are very comfortable!

One of the five famous Buddhist mountains in China, a sacred place of Buddhism in Southeast Asia, and the birthplace of Zen Buddhism in the world. In addition to the golden temple on the top of the mountain, the narrow path for self-cultivation, and the beautiful mountain scenery, the fairy wind and spiritual energy here will definitely make you feel that the trip is worthwhile!

The temple on the top of Jiuzu Mountain is very quiet in the evening. Occasionally, you can hear the monks chanting sutras during the evening class.

Many people who come to Dali don't know that there is a famous Buddhist mountain in Dali - Jizu Mountain. Jizu Mountain has a long history of Buddhist culture. Because of its unique shape and beautiful scenery, it has become a sacred mountain of Buddhism in Yunnan since the Nanzhao and Dali Kingdom periods. To this day, the mountain is still full of incense and Buddha's light. At the same time, Jizu Mountain is the only famous Buddhist mountain in the world where Han Buddhism and Tibetan Buddhism coexist. Friends who are interested in culture and history can go and have a look.

Another wonder of Jizu Mountain is that you must stay at the top of the mountain for a night. The highest peak of Jizu Mountain, Tianzhu Peak, is 3,248 meters above sea level. There is a Jinding Temple and a hotel on the top of the peak. Here you can enjoy the wonders known as the "Four Views": sunrise in the east, auspicious clouds in the south, Erhai Lake in the west, and Jade Dragon in the north. The sunrise in the morning is especially spectacular, comparable to the sunrise at the Golden Summit of Mount Emei.

There are two ways to get to Jizu Mountain from Dali: one is to take a bus from Dali City to Binchuan County and then transfer to Jizu Mountain, which takes about 1.5-2 hours; the other way is to charter a car from Shuanglang or Wase (the new highway from Dali to Binchuan crosses the mountains near Wase to reach Binchuan; the peak behind Shuanglang belongs to the Jizu Mountain range), and it will arrive in 1 hour.

Jizu Mountain is really beautiful. You can also stay in the Jiaye Temple and watch the sunrise in the morning, which is very nice.

As the altitude increases, tall plants appear. The red flowers on the trees bloom in clusters and clusters, very beautiful. Deep in the dense forest, the birds ignored us and continued to sing cheerful songs on the branches. The little squirrel was chewing pine cones, and when he heard our voices, he jumped down from the tree and ran into the forest.

According to Indian legend, the entire universe is a dream of Brahma. Then, isn't Kasyapa Buddha's eternal meditation also a wonderful Zen dream? Let us walk quietly in this dream and don't disturb the good dreams of the ancients.
