Haigeng Park is located on the east bank of Dianchi Lake. It is a beautiful park and the main viewing spot of Dianchi Lake.
Haigeng refers to a long embankment that extends deep into Dianchi Lake, dividing it into two lakes. It is very pleasant to go sightseeing along the embankment into the lake.
The lake is lined with swaying green trees, matched with orange and yellow trails, and various brightly colored sculptures, creating a fresh and beautiful environment.
Every winter, Dianchi Lake becomes a habitat for red-billed gulls, and bird feeding and bird watching in the park are popular activities.

Located on the shores of Dianchi Lake, the "Pearl of the Plateau", it is free and has convenient transportation, so it is very popular with tourists. When we got to the ethnic village, the road was already blocked, so we simply got off the bus and walked slowly to Haigeng Park.
There is a long causeway in Haigeng Park that charges 20 yuan per person. If you walk in, you can see a purer Dianchi Lake (the steps near the lake are full of bread crumbs that have not been eaten by red-billed gulls, which is a bit unsightly), but we decided not to go because there are no red-billed gulls in that area, not a single one, hahahaha, so realistic... cough cough, I'm not talking nonsense, there really are no red-billed gulls.
Walk a little further and look back, this causeway is really long (nonsense)... The only thing it loses is that there are no red-billed gulls, hahahaha.
So, we walked along the road by the Dianchi Lake all the way to the Haigeng-Xishan Cableway. We had originally planned to take the cable car (70 yuan per person for a round trip) to Xishan to see Longmen and then overlook Dianchi Lake. However, the cable car ticket window only accepted cash. We searched our pockets but couldn't find enough for 210 yuan (we are both terminally ill mobile payment users). Hahaha, we were not destined to do this, so we just gave up.
The lakeside path in Haigeng Park is practically unguarded, so the scenery was fantastic. However, there were so many tourists, all huddled on the roadside to feed the red-billed gulls, that we felt a bit threatened. We feared a jostle and we might actually fall into the water. Hahaha, maybe we were overthinking it. The section with guardrails is home to a collection of love locks... Against the backdrop of the blue sky and lake, the bright red ribbons fluttering in the wind were quite eye-catching.
The clusters of willow trees by the lake are not very eye-catching in this season, but their bare branches are quite poetic against the backdrop of the sunny blue sky and the sparkling lake.
We walked to the lakeside where there were few people, and stopped to watch under the scorching sun. Some of the red-billed gulls were leisurely gliding on the waves on the lake, some flew up to pick some bread from tourists, and some just spread their wings and circled in the sky against the wind. The cruise ships on the lake passed by inadvertently in twos and threes. Standing there, it felt as if I didn't exist, but I was able to enjoy the scenery in front of me. It was really a great deal.
We didn't buy any gull food at Haigeng Park, we just watched them. There were too many people, and the waves splashed high, making it difficult to feed the gulls. So we decided to walk over to the Haigeng Dam to feed them. At the back of the park's riverbank, there's an RV base and camping grounds nearby—a real treat.
There are so many seagulls. Although there are some in Erhai Lake in Dali, they are far less than here. The most obvious difference is that there are so many seagulls here that the sky is raining bird droppings... You can watch the sunset over the Western Hills from afar. There is also a long plastic running track built near the road. If you have the opportunity to stay longer, it is quite nice to go for a run here.
Kunming is so beautiful, with scenery everywhere. It is a must-see destination in Kunming. The park is open-style, with one end leading to the cable car and the other to the Nature Garden. Haigeng Park is located opposite the Sleeping Beauty of Xishan Mountain and is one of the best places to see it. The air here is fresh and natural. There is also a Locking Heart Bridge and a running track on the roadside. Many people come here to run every day. You can also take a boat tour of Dianchi Lake. In winter, you can see seagulls chasing the boat. There is a playground on the ground, and you can also take a helicopter ride. It seems to be about 800 yuan for 30 minutes (the specific price depends on the time of visit). You can also ride a bicycle to play in the park
As I got off the bus, I spotted a multitude of seabirds flying over the shimmering Dianchi Lake from afar. As I got closer, I realized they were indeed returning red-billed gulls. They had finally met, having traveled all the way from Siberia to Yunnan.
The sun was dazzling, and Dianchi Lake was a lush green. The azure sky was uninterrupted by a single cloud. A cool autumn breeze caressed my face, and the sunlight tingled slightly. In Haigeng Park, the bright yellow coreopsis flowers were in full bloom. The contrast between the blue sky and the yellow chrysanthemums was striking.
The pier was packed with birdwatchers. People leaned against the railing, holding a handful of bread high, waiting for the red-billed elf to flit by and snatch it away. This cycle repeated itself, a game played by both humans and animals, a joy to both sides.
Walking slowly along the Haigeng Dam, you can see that the pier extending into Dianchi Lake is full of red-billed gulls resting.
On the other side of the dam, bird-watching tourists were happily feeding the birds, imitating the sounds of seagulls, calling out in high and low voices.
A gust of wind blew, and the waves of Dianchi Lake crashed onto the dam, splashing more than half a person high. Tourists standing on the shore feeding the animals were drenched by the spray and retreated screaming.
Kunming in autumn may not be as colorful and beautiful as in spring, but it still feels full of vitality because of the visit of red-billed gulls.
For locals, it's a great place for morning and evening strolls. In winter, it's also a great place to watch seagulls. Compared to Haigeng Dam, it's far less crowded. If that's not enough, you can take a luxury cruise from the pier for 100 yuan round-trip, which takes you around Dianchi Lake and reportedly includes folk performances. Before 9 a.m., strolling along Dianchi Lake in Haigeng Park is a peaceful and relaxing experience. Enjoy the sea breeze, watch the seagulls, and even buy gull food to feed them and take photos with these playful little creatures. Isn't it wonderful? Haigeng Park now offers no admission fee, making it a truly wonderful place to visit.
I had never paid attention to where Haigeng was, but I didn't expect it to be on the shore of the beautiful Dianchi Lake. Entering from the main gate of Haigeng Park, as soon as I arrived at the north shore of Dianchi Lake, there were already more than 20 people standing on the shore playing with gulls. We arrived at 9:20. The sun had only been up for more than an hour, and it was the soft light of the morning. Looking west from the north shore, because it was early, there was still good side light, and soon the seagulls started to move. They were simply flying thieves. The seagull food was 10 yuan per portion, which included three long loaves of bread. This was quite fair. People's food was more expensive than this. At least in Guangzhou, three such long loaves of bread would cost at least 20 yuan. These skuas were already very experienced and swallowed a big mouthful easily. It was the first time for the child to see a live seagull, and the seagulls here were very dense and had a strong desire for food, which made the child exclaim "these seagulls are crazy." The child had no experience in dealing with seagulls. Although he held the seagull food in his hand, he could only sigh at the seagulls.
The seagulls ignored me, so I had to feed the gulls floating in the water instead. My mother jokingly said it was like feeding chickens. The skuas continued to scurry around. After feeding them for a while, I finished three loaves of bread. I bought another 10 yuan worth of gull food and walked west along the park's seaside promenade, feeding the gulls, all the way to the Haigeng Dam. Air Force fighter jets were constantly lining the air, and after several passed by, I finally couldn't resist taking a picture.
At the foot of Xishan Mountain, many people were lying on the grass in Haigeng Park to bask in the sun, while children were chasing and feeding pigeons with pigeon food; young people were feeding red-billed gulls with bread in one hand, and the red-billed gulls were circling and swooping down to take away the bread. Haha, both the people and the red-billed gulls were extremely satisfied!
Lao Tang and I were a little tired from climbing the mountain, so we simply found a bench by the water, leaned against each other and closed our eyes to bask in the sun. The sunlight on the plateau was warm and dazzling, but it was also a small happiness to be able to bask in the sun safely outdoors on a winter afternoon!
Our destination today was Dianchi Lake. Recalling the breathtaking beauty of Qinghai Lake and Qionghai Lake in Xichang, I missed their beauty on my first visits because I didn't find the right spots. So, Dianchi Lake is so vast, finding the right spot is crucial! When Little Bear looked up a travel guide and suggested going to Haigeng Park, I scoffed, "We want to see the pristine beauty, not some ordinary park!" I looked online and found that the Dianchi Lake Ring Road South is a hidden gem with few people and beautiful scenery, so I followed his instructions and headed to the subway station. We arrived at the subway station, but found that the station he mentioned was not there. We asked the staff, and they said, "To Dianchi Lake?" We took the subway and then the bus as he said, and were shocked to find that this was Haigeng Park! And there was a direct bus from here to our hotel! I was wrong... This season is when there are the most seagulls in Dianchi Lake, and the Siberian red-billed gulls have flown in for the winter. I suddenly thought of the seagulls in Juyan Lake. Aren't they afraid of the cold? Feed the seagulls, feed the seagulls, the only thing to do today is to feed the seagulls! After feeding the seagulls for a long time, the children wanted to take a train. The weather couldn't be better! Auntie said, we can't feed seagulls all day, right? Then, take a boat! On the boat, the children still fed the seagulls! When it got dark, the waves of Dianchi Lake began to rise. The baby said goodbye to the seagulls reluctantly.
At the foot of Xishan Mountain, adjacent to Dianchi Lake, lies Haigeng Park. In winter, the red-billed gulls are the absolute center of attention here, their cries audible from afar. Gege trotted toward Dianchi Lake. As we approached, we were stunned by the sight: the number of red-billed gulls here was even greater than we had imagined. They fearlessly landed on people's hands to snatch food, circling and soaring over Dianchi Lake in waves, a truly spectacular sight! A patrol helicopter soared over Haigeng Park. Whenever it passed over the water, the gulls would collectively evacuate the shore, heading for the deepest point where the sea and sky meet, and the surface of the sea would suddenly become calm. As the helicopter departed, only a rustling sound could be heard, accompanied by the sound of red-billed gulls pouring down from the sky to the shore, like a galaxy pouring down the sea, drawing exclamations from the visitors... It was truly a magical experience! You must choose winter to come to Kunming, otherwise if you miss the red-billed gulls, you will feel like you have missed the whole world.
Haigeng Park, located at the northernmost edge of Dianchi Lake, is a must-see destination. In early winter, large numbers of red-billed gulls migrate here for the winter. The traffic was incredibly congested the day we arrived. The hotel owner explained that because the gulls had recently arrived, the previously one-way street near Haigeng Park had been converted to a two-way street to facilitate viewing. We were fortunate to be able to observe the birds up close, though the traffic was a bit of a pain. Fortunately, the drive was manageable, not too long. The drive from Kunming South Railway Station to Haigeng Park is about 30 kilometers. Since we weren't familiar with the roads, we took our time, reaching the park in about an hour. The most memorable part of the trip was the beautiful weather, something you only rarely see in Chengdu during the winter. Baidu Encyclopedia states that Haigeng Park, built in the early 1960s, is located on the shores of Dianchi Lake in the southern suburbs of Kunming, about 10 kilometers from downtown Kunming and 2.5 kilometers long from east to west. However, in our opinion, Haigeng Park is just a walking path along the lake, with no other scenic views along the shore. The main attraction is Dianchi Lake itself. Before our visit, we heard many rumors that the water in Dianchi Lake was unclean, but the recent efforts to clean up Dianchi Lake have been quite effective. We didn't see any obvious pollutants, nor did we smell any strange odors. The water was only slightly turbid.
Haigeng Park is an open-air park, but if the season is right, you absolutely must feed the red-billed gulls! You absolutely must feed the red-billed gulls! Feed the red-billed gulls! It's so much fun! Tear bread into small pieces, hold them in your hands, and they'll slow down mid-flight and snatch the bread away! Don't be afraid, they're unlikely to peck at your hands. My son wasn't satisfied with one bag of bread, so he gave him another. Gull food is 10 yuan a bag, and there are different kinds. The owner recommends bread. Bread is definitely easier to feed. Of course, you can bring your own. There are red-billed gulls all along the riverside path in the park, so you can feed them as much as you want. We arrived around 10:30 AM, so there weren't many people around. I guess it's better to arrive earlier; after all, they won't pay attention to you if they're full.
landscape:
The scenery is pretty good, suitable for traveling in this season. Walking along the edge of the pool, slowly experiencing the natural scenery, you will feel extremely comfortable.
From November to March of the following year, it is the season when red-billed gulls soar over the pond. Each one is so cute flying above the water. There are small shops selling bread and biscuits on the shore that specialize in feeding them. However, if you want them to eat from your hands, you have to "cast a long line to catch a big fish" because they are very scared and will run away cautiously and quickly!
equipment:
There is a bicycle rental station nearby. A double bicycle (with a child seat) costs 30 yuan per hour, and a single bicycle costs 20 yuan per hour. A deposit of 300 yuan or an ID card is acceptable. You can slowly ride your bicycle from the rental station to the foot of Xishan Mountain and then to Haigeng Village. During the ride, you can park your bicycle by the roadside and take photos with the natural plants and scenery, or take your family to a shady place to enjoy the scenery.
Drinks:
There's a place selling local yogurt in the park. We recommend the ones with black and blue lids! The black ones are additive-free, while the blue ones have more protein. Both are 5 yuan a bottle, so don't miss out!
By car:
Taking a taxi from downtown is about 45 yuan if you use Didi Express and takes about 25 minutes. The bus is only 4 yuan (you need to change buses once) and takes about an hour. Cycling is available by scanning a QR code with your phone (Didi is green, Alipay is blue, and Mobike is orange). There are many options and it takes about 2 hours.
It is recommended to take a taxi when going there, and choose between taking the bus or riding a bike when coming back, because you can slowly appreciate the unique scenery brought by this four-season flower city on the way.
Dianchi Haigeng Park, a pearl of the Spring City, embraces the vast, misty waters of the 500-mile-long Dianchi Lake, offering a picturesque view of the Sleeping Beauty of Xishan Mountain. In winter, tens of thousands of red-billed gulls gather along the lakeside, offering fun and interactive feeding opportunities. The 3-kilometer waterfront boardwalk is ideal for walking and cycling, while the shaded lawns offer picnics and camping. Adjacent to the Yunnan Ethnic Village, a combined visit is recommended. Free admission is available, with direct bus service available via routes 24/44. Enjoy the scenery year-round, from a vibrant blend of water and sky on sunny days to shrouded in mist after rain. Many of the eight scenic views of Dianchi Lake can be seen here. A recommended 2-3 hour visit is the perfect place to experience Kunming's slow pace of life.
Dianchi Haigeng Park is a prime spot for viewing Dianchi Lake. Lined by lush greenery, it features an orange-and-yellow walking path and vibrant sculptures, creating a refreshing and beautiful environment. Dianchi Haigeng Park is also a wintering habitat for red-billed gulls, offering a great opportunity for birdwatching and feeding.
Free admission, open all day
Dianchi Lake
Dianchi Lake, also known as Kunming Lake, Kunming Pond, Diannanze, and Dianhai, is located southwest of Kunming City. Flowing into it are the Panlong River and other rivers. At an altitude of 1,886 meters and covering an area of 330 square kilometers, it is China's sixth largest freshwater lake and is known as the Pearl of the Plateau. Its average depth is 5 meters, with a maximum depth of 8 meters.
The lake, with an altitude of 1,886 meters, stretches 39 kilometers from north to south and 13 kilometers from east to west at its widest point, has a shoreline of 163.2 kilometers, an area of 306.3 square kilometers, and a water capacity of 1.57 billion cubic meters. It is often called the "Five Hundred Mile Dianchi Lake."
transportation:
Take bus No. 24, 44, or 73 and get off at Haigeng Park. There is also a cable car from Yunnan Nationalities Village that runs between Haigeng Park and Xishan.
Free admission
If you want to see red-billed gulls, November is the best time to visit Kunming. We visited in October and saw even fewer seagulls than at Haigeng Dam, but it was still quite crowded. There are also some popular check-in spots here, perfect for photo opportunities. Because Haigeng Park is quite large, we didn't walk the entire length. If you don't have much time, I recommend renting a bike and exploring the park. The scenery is indeed beautiful, and it's easily accessible for those staying in the ethnic villages. If you're staying near Haigeng Dam, you'll probably have to walk about 30 minutes. Regardless, it's easily accessible and a great place worth visiting.
Haigeng Park, built in the early 1960s, is located in the southern suburbs of Kunming, the "Spring City" of Yunnan Province, known for its four-season spring. It sits on the shores of Dianchi Lake, the "Pearl of the Plateau," approximately 10 kilometers from downtown Kunming. It stretches approximately 2.5 kilometers from east to west and 200 meters from north to south, covering 750 mu (approximately 16 acres). Ancient people called Dianchi Lake "the sea." Today, the ten-mile-long causeway, shaded by verdant trees, sparkles with white waves from speeding boats. The azure sky, deep blue sea, emerald green grass, and fresh air offer visitors a unique coastal charm. Here, you can truly experience the meaning of "the sky is high and the clouds are light, the sea is vast and the heart is broad."
It's clear that the park is a great place for locals to relax and spend their weekends. Besides tourists, about 80% of the people are locals. They're talking in operatic tones, lazily enjoying the sea breeze in the cafes and teahouses near the park. Some are fishing, and regardless of whether they catch fish or not, they're all very proud of their posture and equipment. I stayed there until nightfall after coming down from Xishan. In the evening, I even saw the beautiful colorful clouds to the south. I was a little excited and took a lot of photos, but it seemed like the locals were already used to it.
Haigeng Park is right next to the National Village and can be reached by bus. On a sunny day, it is quite comfortable to walk and sit under the shade of the trees by Dianchi Lake.
It is worth going in December when red-billed gulls overwinter.
Haigeng Park is located in the southern suburbs of Kunming, the "Spring City" in Yunnan Province, where the four seasons are like spring, and on the shores of Dianchi Lake, the "Pearl of the Plateau", about 10 kilometers from the center of Kunming.
Every year when the red-billed gulls come to spend the winter, there are the most tourists. Kunming is like spring all year round, and when you see these lovely flying elves, your heart will become very gentle.
There are two stone tablets engraved with "Dianchi Lake" in Haigeng Park, where tourists can take photos.
Dianchi Lake is a treasure for Kunming and a great natural resource. There will be seagulls if you go there in winter, but the wind is strong, so it is worth a visit.
Get up close to the seagulls, feed them, take photos, etc.
Every year from November to March, snow-white red-billed gulls fly here from the far north to spend the winter, an annual event that never fails. Watching gulls at Dianchi Lake has become one of Kunming's most popular attractions.
Thirty-two years later, I revisited the place and felt a lot of emotion.
When I went there, the red-billed gulls were still there, there were really a lot of them, and I had a lot of fun, but there were too many people and cars, hahaha
This is the perfect place to watch seagulls! Watch seagulls! Watch the beautiful scene of seagulls fleeing after grabbing food up close.
Mainly feed the red-billed gulls, feed the red-billed gulls, feed the red-billed gulls
I came to Yunnan last September, but missed Dianchi Lake because I was not familiar with the road. This time I got the chance to make up for it. I had plenty of time in the afternoon, so I took a taxi from Mingchun Hotel to Dianchi Lake, which took about 40 minutes. I finally saw the red-billed seagulls.
Compared to the dam, there are relatively fewer people feeding seagulls here, which is suitable for strolling by the lake.
There are many seagulls here starting from November, which is very beautiful.
I was lucky enough to feed two red-billed gulls. There were people selling feed and bread on the roadside. Bread was easier to feed. Three for 10 yuan.
Although there are a lot of people and the water is not as blue, it is definitely a popular check-in spot.
I went there during the summer vacation. There were only one or two seabirds. But I met a fishing uncle who caught a big fish. I watched him for a long time. The scenery was great.
The park is quite large, and it is a bit far to walk from the entrance to the place where the seagulls are fed. It is recommended to ride a shared bicycle to travel around.
Regarding feeding seagulls, don't buy the kind of bread that costs 10 yuan for 3 packs in the scenic area. Seagulls basically don't eat this kind of bread. It is recommended to buy good bread, biscuits are also fine.
Admission is now free, and there's a children's playground and barbecue area, though it seems to be expanding, with many areas fenced off. The main attraction this season is the red-billed gulls. Stroll along the lakeside boardwalk, enjoying the warm sunshine and gentle breeze. Bring some bread or steamed buns; these little cuties aren't afraid of people at all and will rush to grab a bite. The water quality of Dianchi Lake is still relatively poor compared to Fuxian Lake and Lugu Lake, with a lot of algae still floating on the surface, but it's much better than before. I remember how stinky the water was when I was in college.
Every winter, a large number of Siberian red-billed gulls fly here to spend the winter. There will be many seagulls on the dam, which is very spectacular. There are also small vendors feeding the seagulls.
Dianchi Lake is very large, and the best place to visit is Haigeng Park. You can feed the seagulls in Haigeng Park, so just bring some biscuits with you.
It's a place for red-billed gulls. The park is not small and the water is a bit dirty.
The highlight: You can feed the red-billed gulls! Three bread loaves cost ten yuan. It's recommended to bring your own bread; regular bread without butter, chocolate, icing, jam, or other contaminants should be fine. I even saw some people feeding them with steamed buns.
There are also pigeons, you can feed them.
Haigeng Park, Daguan Park, and Cuihu Park offer similar scenery, all featuring red-billed gulls. But I personally think Haigeng Park is the best place to see them. With the vast expanse of Dianchi Lake, you can gaze at the gulls circling high and low. Don't forget to buy a bag of pigeon food nearby for ten yuan—you're feeding them with a touch of romance.
Whether a city is beautiful or not depends on whether it has water. Kunming, Yunnan is located at a high altitude. In such a harsh environment, there is such a water (lakeside). You can imagine how much its existence adds to Kunming.
The weather was not very good today. When I arrived at Haigeng Park this morning, there was no one on the shore and the wind was a bit strong. There was no hope of watching the sunrise, but there was a different kind of scenery. Seeing such a scenery, I immediately understood the artistic conception of the "800-li Dianchi Lake".
When I went there, it happened to be the pollution removal and remediation period, so I didn't see the beauty of Dianchi Lake. The trail design was very good.
If you're passing by Yunnan Folk Village on your way to Haigeng Park, you can arrange to visit together, as the two are very close. After parking the car in the parking lot and entering the park gate, there were already many seagulls on the lawn. However, when we went to Haigeng Dam the next day, we realized that the park was nothing compared to the Haigeng Dam.
At noon, we drove along the edge of Dianchi Lake to the Sea Stem Park. Sure enough, there were plenty of red-billed sea breams, but they're so famous, and so many people are feeding them that they're no longer interested in eating your bread. But seeing these adorable animals still automatically turns me on, "You want space? You're free, okay?" Haha! Dianchi Lake in winter is filled with sea breams. Seeing one will surely lift your gloom!
We found many interesting little ideas in the park. Each manhole cover was given a different life. I think the designer is a person who loves life very much.
Tips: It is recommended to bring some biscuits or bread when you go, feeding is also a good experience.
If you can't go to London to feed pigeons, come to Haigeng to feed seagulls, it's quite refreshing.
After seeing the seagulls, it is worth watching. Free is better than anything else!
In the early morning mist, Dianchi Lake was shrouded in fog, blurring the dirty lake water. From Haigeng Park, I saw Dianchi Lake, and all I could see was the foamy water surface polluted by green algae. Dianchi Lake is actually a large lake. Feeding seagulls at Dianchi Lake allows you to experience the harmonious coexistence of humans and birds. There is no special scenery, and it feels like just a visit.
Haigeng Park is a short section of lakeside plank road on the north side of Dianchi Lake. Next to it is the Yunnan Ethnic Village. Due to time constraints and lack of interest, I did not go to the ethnic village.
The wind here is very strong, and red-billed gulls often glide against the wind. Come and feel the storm of gulls.
Convenient transportation.
Located on the east bank of Dianchi Lake, it is a park with beautiful scenery and also the main viewing point of Dianchi Lake.
The free park by Dianchi Lake has nice scenery and many people come here for leisure.
The transportation is very convenient. It is a good place to see Dianchi Lake and Xishan Mountain up close. It is great to stroll along the embankment in winter, enjoy the sunshine, and interact with the red-billed gulls.
The scenery is beautiful, the seagulls are cute, they are well fed, and there are a lot of them. You need to be careful of the 💩 falling from the ground and the sky. I have a slight obsession with cleanliness, so the experience is not very high.
The area is huge and there are many places to visit. You can find a lot of them by searching Baidu. If you want to rest, you can stay in a hotel nearby and walk around slowly. It's quite nice.
I didn't see any seagulls. I went there specifically to see them.
That is Dianchi Lake. There are battery cars for rent at the entrance of the park, 30/car, you can ride around Dianchi Lake. It was a pity that it was cloudy on the day I went there, so the photos I took were not very beautiful. However, if it was a sunny day, it would be beautiful.
The result was quite disappointing. It was cloudy, cold, and gray. Xishan Park is nearby. You need to take a cable car up the mountain.
The best time to visit is November to December, when the red-billed gulls spend the winter and thousands of them wander around the area, creating a spectacular sight. People flock to feed the gulls, who are not afraid of people at all, making it a very entertaining sight.
If I hadn't encountered a group of greedy seagulls, I really don't think I would have any memories.
From the cable car, you can go directly over Dianchi Lake to Xishan Park
My friend is visiting from Beijing, so I took Monday off to take him to Haigeng Park to see the seagulls. There were already seagulls in the park at this time.
Take bus A1 from Xinying Community of Polytechnic University (Bailong Road) to the terminal and get off at the National Village scenic spot. Walk along the road for about 10 minutes to reach Haigeng Park.
Last time I visited, the entrance fee was 10 yuan per person, but this time, Haigeng Park is free. Much of the park is under construction, and the fences where it's being built have the words "Future Haigeng Park" written on them. The wide red road is nice for cycling, and there are free temporary public toilets not far from the roadside.
The waters of Dianchi Lake lap against the park's shore, some waves splashing onto the surface. Some people are feeding the seagulls, who sometimes fly in flocks, sometimes float on the water. It's still a bit chilly in the shade of the sycamore trees along the shore, but standing on the shore is the best place to watch the seagulls. Up close, you can clearly see the red beaks of the seagulls.
There are many places selling drinks, red-billed seagull toys and other snacks under the park road, but there is a very simple place to eat in the park that is similar to a fast food restaurant. The prices of the food are posted outside the simple restaurant. You go to the ticket office to pay for your tickets and then order food from the various food stalls. I bought a portion of fried tofu for 5 yuan, which tasted good. After eating, I sat down to rest for a while and then continued to visit the park.
The park is tranquil, with a stone tablet bearing the Chinese characters for "Dianchi" on the shore. Many people come here to pitch tents, fly kites, and play on the vacant grass. I'm not sure what the design of three people riding bicycles in red, blue, and yellow on the grass represents, but sitting on the grass in the sun, watching the kites soar beneath the blue sky and white clouds, brings a warm feeling.
The road in front of the amusement park was under construction. I wanted to try some exciting rides, but Haigeng Park doesn't have many. I stayed there for a while, enjoying the peaceful weather in Kunming, and then went back to catch the bus.
I've been to a few attractions in Kunming, but Haigeng Park and Green Lake are the only ones I've visited repeatedly. If I wait a little longer next time, perhaps the parks will have seen a fresh look.
In the park, the red-billed gulls that have come here for the winter have been fed enormously by tourists. They're not afraid of people and will swarm over any food they find. I wonder if they'll still be able to fly when they return home next spring.
It was not the season for bird watching when we went there, but the scenery was nice, except that the water was too green.
Unfortunately, the red-billed gulls in Dianchi Lake have already flown back to Siberia at this time of year. Comrades who want to see the red-billed gulls should remember to come before April.
We had heard that parking near Dianchi Lake was difficult, especially during the Spring Festival, so we set off early in the morning. After finding a spot to park the car in front of a hotel, we couldn't wait to go to Haigeng Park to take photos and play with the elves from afar.
Many small shops near Dianchi Haigeng Park sell food for the seagulls, with bread and biscuits costing 10 yuan a bag. At my son's request, we bought some. Seeing the little one dancing and enjoying the feeding, my father and I couldn't help but join in the excitement.
There is a direct bus from the bus station, which is very convenient. The park is also part of Dianchi Lake.
Around 8 o'clock in the evening, Haigeng Park was very deserted and not lively at all. I felt like I had gone to the wrong place.
The park is mainly composed of a road that goes around Dianchi Lake. Now it is July-August, most of the seagulls have flown away, and only a few can be seen along the circular road.
I was on a business trip to Kunming. I didn’t want to move around in the hotel during my free time, so my colleagues dragged me to Haigeng Park and Haigeng Dam. After playing there, I really felt that the trip was worthwhile. The seagulls were flying all over the sky, and I was having a lot of fun. . . . .
It is actually on the edge of Dianchi Lake, with an ethnic village nearby and not far from Xishan. It is too crowded on weekends.
Green Lake Park, Kunming, Yunnan Province
The weather was beautiful on the day of our visit, with a clear blue sky and light clouds. Seagulls flocked over Green Lake, creating a spectacular sight. Kunming residents flocked to the park with their families, enjoying the springtime. Many beautiful young women even donned miniskirts for photos, making me mistakenly believe summer had arrived.
Despite the less-than-perfect skies over Kunming's Haigeng and Dianchi Lake, seagulls still swarmed the skies, creating a harmonious atmosphere between humanity and nature. The seagulls, having arrived in Kunming from Siberia to spend the winter, will depart next month for their long journey home.
