If I were to talk about the place that impressed me the most during my visit to Xishuangbanna, it would be Gaozhuang Xishuangjing, a place that I miss very much and want to go back again.

Gaozhuang Xishuangjing is a Dai language, which means "Nine Towers and Twelve Villages" in Chinese. It aims to recreate the splendor of ancient Jinghong and create a prosperous "City within Jinghong".

Strictly speaking, it is not a tourist attraction, but it contains many attractions; it does not charge admission, but it has everything. You can see almost everything you want to see in Xishuangbanna. This is the charm of Gaozhuang Xishuangjing.

It is almost entirely composed of Dai architectural complexes, which are ideal for street photography. The accommodations there are all Dai-style hotels at very reasonable prices. The attractions include the Jinghong Shwedagon Pagoda and the Starlight Night Market, especially the Starlight Night Market, which is worth a visit. At night, almost all the streets will be lined with small tables of the same height on both sides of the street, and above the streets will be many colorful lights made of lanterns or umbrellas, with a variety of colors. The vendors sell everything, and there is a dazzling array of things. There are endless tourists on the streets, and walking around will make people linger.

I hope I can come back here next time I return to Yunnan. Looking forward to it...

The rain in Xishuangbanna comes and goes quickly, so we left without an umbrella. As soon as we arrived at Gaozhuang, it started pouring down. Luckily, there were plenty of restaurants and dessert shops lining the road. We found a nearby dessert shop to take shelter from the rain while enjoying a drink and waiting for nightfall. It wasn't very interesting during the day; the huge square only came alive at night. The most interesting things, however, were the restaurants on both sides. For example, the one we went to had local singers singing songs I couldn't understand, but I assumed they were ethnic songs. Each table sang a different song. But then I thought, this place probably attracts a lot of people from other places. Anyway, it's close to the city center, just across the Lancang River Bridge, so it's worth a visit if you have the time.

In Gaozhuang, there are over thirty festivals, large and small, held annually. Besides the familiar Water Splashing Festival, the most anticipated and exciting is the Loy Krathong Festival. Loy Krathongs, also known as river lanterns, are an expression of gratitude to the Buddha and the river gods. The Loy Krathong rituals originally served to teach future generations that water is the source of all life and to thank the Buddha for his contributions to the salvation of mankind. This year's Loy Krathong Festival takes place from November 22nd to 24th. Every Loy Krathong Festival is a lively affair, and this year's is no exception, featuring a parade of floats, a Miss Loy Krathong beauty pageant, the release of thousands of water lanterns, a fireworks display, and other activities.

The float parade, which began at the main gate of Gaozhuang Xishuangjing, was truly breathtaking. It was my first time witnessing such a grand parade filled with singing and dancing, and it was truly spectacular. The girls, all dressed in gorgeous costumes, held banners, water lanterns, and even flowers as they paraded through Gaozhuang Xishuangjing to celebrate the Loy Krathong Festival. For those who haven't seen a parade before, it's a must-try for you to join in on this truly Southeast Asian parade! You'll also see a variety of lotus lanterns—I'm really disappointed with my language skills; you can see the pictures. The beautiful and exquisite exotic costumes were a real treat. I'd only ever seen ethnic minority costumes on TV, but now I get to see them up close in Banna. It was so much better in person, and the atmosphere was incredibly lively. Everyone was singing and dancing enthusiastically, creating a lively atmosphere—perhaps the epitome of happiness!

Walking towards the night market, the water lantern beauty pageant is in full swing. The Dai girls are good at singing and dancing. Although I don’t understand what the ethnic minority music is singing, the light and cheerful tunes make many people at the scene hum along. I strolled around slowly while enjoying the singing and dancing.

When you walk to the bridge, you can see many people taking a cruise. It is also fun to take a cruise at night to see the scenery on both sides of the river.

The riverbanks were packed with people, the vibrant night and the vibrant lights of the trees creating a mysterious new world. Many people released lanterns into the river, and I did the same, wishing for the future of our country and the health, safety, and happiness of my family.

The numerous water lanterns, large and small, adorning the river create a unique spectacle. From afar, they resemble twinkling stars, while up close, the lotus lanterns, in all their forms, are breathtakingly beautiful. Couples flock to see them, and I was thoroughly spoiled this time. I'm planning to bring my husband along next time.

Xishuangbanna is Jinghong City. The most famous and prosperous place in Jinghong City is Gaozhuang. Gaozhuang actually refers to an area. Gaozhuang Xishuangjing is named after the Dai language "Nine Pagodas and Twelve Villages". It aims to recreate the splendor of ancient Jinghong and integrate Dai-Thai culture with Southeast Asian style. Its iconic attraction, the Jinghong Shwedagon Pagoda, is spectacular and dazzling, especially under the lights at night. The Starlight Night Market is bustling at night, bringing together Dai-Thai clothing, handicrafts and Southeast Asian snacks. The Six Countries Floating Market bar has a relaxed atmosphere, and the surrounding streets have a more Southeast Asian atmosphere. Prices are cheaper than the landmark attractions.

The vast commercial area along the Lancang River boasts a truly stunning nightscape, a dazzling sea of lights that can perhaps only be seen here. The entire night market area is actually comprised of several sections, including Gaozhuang Night Market, Xingguang Night Market, and Liuguo Floating Market, all connected together. Any small stall counts as a night market, with no distinction between them. Quiet during the day, it transforms into a whole new world at night. During my week in Banna, I visited this area almost every evening, enjoying the food, drinks, and beautiful women. It was truly a delight.

By I am Cat Season |

It has a bit of Southeast Asian style. The town is not big. It is nice to walk around or rent an electric car to explore. The surrounding scenic spots are scattered with Gaozhuang as the center. If the trip is not long, it is recommended to stay here. It is convenient to go to the night market to eat and go to the scenic spots.

Gaozhuang Xishuangjing, known in Chinese as "Nine Pagodas and Twelve Villages" on the banks of the Lancang River, has become a must-see destination in Xishuangbanna. Arguably Jinghong's largest and most diverse night market, it's also known as "Xishuangbanna's First Impression." This unique floating market boasts hotels, restaurants, shops, and stalls, offering a unique blend of dining, drinking, entertainment, travel, and recreation. It combines the charm of everyday life with a touch of exotic romance.

Many tourists have only seen Gaozhuang's night scene, but don't know what it looks like during the day. Entering through the main gate, we're greeted by majestic elephant sculptures flanking the "Vientiane Avenue." Perhaps after a night of revelry, Gaozhuang hasn't yet woken up, and traffic is light, making this the perfect time for a bike ride. Rent an electric scooter along the roadside and start your journey. Gaozhuang's unique Snoopy electric scooter, with a separate seat on one side, is just enough for a family of three.

The market stalls in Gaozhuang were really great for taking photos. There was no one there, so I didn't rent any Dai costumes. I bought conservative ones online in advance. The results were pretty good when I took a few photos casually. However, it rained both times I went there, so I didn't get to eat many snacks. I was sad.

By Cindy Yin |

As a real estate project, it is still very successful. In the urban area of Jinghong, there are a lot of distinctive Dai-style villas, inns, bars and restaurants. It is very unique to visit.

By fly |

The Shwedagon Pagoda is arguably the most iconic attraction in downtown Xishuangbanna. Located in Gaozhuang, the heart of Xishuangbanna, its towering golden pagoda and sculptures make you mistakenly think you've arrived in Thailand. Visiting in the evening is recommended; with luck, you might even see a sunset, though I wasn't so lucky. As the sun sets, the lights gradually come on, and the nearby night market becomes increasingly lively, attracting tourists seeking delicious food and interesting souvenirs.

When you come to the north of Shwedagon Pagoda, you will suddenly be shocked by the scenery in front of you. This is a huge night market square with colorful umbrellas and lights. From time to time, you can hear the singing of resident singers at the barbecue stalls.

Gaozhuang Xishuangjing is located in Jinghong, the capital of Xishuangbanna Dai Autonomous Prefecture, on the east bank of the Lancang River. It's Xishuangbanna's most lively area, home to the Shwedagon Pagoda, the Lancang River Night Market, a wide variety of restaurants and bars, numerous barbecue restaurants, open-air barbecue stalls, fruit shops, handicraft shops, and Pu'er tea shops. A wide variety of inns and guesthouses are available, offering a vibrant nightlife. Staying in Gaozhuang Xishuangjing is the perfect choice for a trip to Xishuangbanna! Across the river from Gaozhuang is the Water Splashing Square, and in the evening and into the night, the Lancang-Mekong Nights show is a large-scale song and dance performance. Staying in Gaozhuang, you can hear the music clearly—and enjoy it for free!

After dropping off my luggage at the hotel, I began my exciting journey through Xishuangbanna. Xishuangbanna isn't very large, but it embodies a rich tapestry of authentic Dai customs and other Southeast Asian flavors. After checking in, the Shwedagon Pagoda is just a short distance down the road. Shared bikes are also available in the area, and hopping on one is a truly delightful experience.

My friend was constantly complaining of hunger, so we decided to grab a snack at a nearby Fujian specialty shop. Why not go with something authentic? I'm not sure. I just went with the flow, and since the owner was constantly promoting his hometown's famous snacks and the place was popular, we sat down and ordered a serving of bird's nest wontons, Fujian fish balls, and noodles with soybean paste. After trying them, I found these wontons to be very different from the Shanghai wontons you see everywhere these days. The texture was completely different, and they were incredibly chewy and refreshing. I highly recommend this place to everyone else.

A must-stay in Xishuangbanna. There's plenty of places to hang out at night. The city center isn't particularly busy at night, aside from the scenic area and the bar street, and it's quite scattered.

By wujianswi |

Xishuangbanna, Gaozhuang Xishuangjing. An evening respite after days of intense work, a refreshing breeze from the Mekong River, a visual feast of light and shadow, the bustling night market, the leisurely elegance of the alleys.

By I want to elope with you |

Coming down from the highway, I drove into the city of Jinghong. At first glance, I was attracted by two tall buildings, which were completely different from the architectural style of the mainland. It turned out that this was Jinghong Gaozhuang, a place full of tourists. It is not the most romantic here during the day. You have to wait until night to see the night market here, which will satisfy all your curiosity.

It’s a man-made scenic spot, and the hotel is not run by locals, but there is a pagoda to see, which is very nice.

Gaozhuang Xishuangjing originated from the Dai language, which means "nine towers and twelve villages" in Chinese. It aims to recreate the splendor of Jinghong in ancient times and create a "city within Jinghong".

The most exotic night view. It is so pleasant to walk on the wooden bridge and attic of the water market accompanied by the cool breeze of the winter night. The market planning is first-class and the lights are dazzling. It is worthy of being called the Starlight Night Market. Except that some prices are too high, I give it full marks. The 40-yuan boat ride is worth taking and the night view is unbeatable!

By Vivien |

I don't know how this became a tourist attraction. It's unbelievable! It's terrible, okay?! Why so many good reviews? First of all, it's filthy and messy. The so-called night market snacks are so filthy, how dare you eat there? Flies are everywhere. It's so crowded, it's almost unbearable! The things they sell are also nonsensical! Bringing children is even more of a disaster; walking is impossible! Taxis are impossible! Overall, I think Xishuangbanna tourism is terrible, and this place is definitely not worth visiting. Trust me!

By Mon`Amie |

It feels like a commercial street. The architectural style is very local. There are a lot of food. The rest are small things from Yiwu and ethnic clothes. Remember to bargain, basically give it half.

It is a place with local characteristics: there are many restaurants and night market snacks, and the Starlight Night Market at night is worth seeing.

This is a famous night market in Xishuangbanna. The Manfeilong roasted chicken here is very famous. The area is already full of inns and well-equipped with all kinds of food, drinks, and entertainment. So, I recommend staying here for a night to experience Xishuangbanna's nightlife.

Gaozhuang is a tourist attraction in Xishuangbanna, located on the banks of the Mekong River. It aims to recreate the ancient prosperity of the Dai people. As the project is still under development, you can see a number of buildings under construction behind the Shwedagon Pagoda. The most popular attraction here is the Starlight Night Market at night. Gaozhuang is arguably the most beautiful place in Jinghong. Since Xishuangbanna is also known as the Twelve Villages, it's not uncommon to find streets in Gaozhuang named after the villages themselves, which is quite interesting.

For those visiting Xishuangbanna, I recommend staying in Gaozhuang, where there are plenty of guesthouses and great food. Jinghong is small, and taxis to many destinations are only around 10 yuan. I really regret staying in Manting Park; it's incredibly remote, and I hadn't known about it beforehand. The Xingguang Night Market in Gaozhuang is amazing! There are tons of barbecue stalls, as well as vendors selling all sorts of tourist goods and fruit. It's packed with tourists, but never crowded. It feels like a true tourist destination. It's right by the Lancang River, and you can walk from the Xingguang Night Market to the river. However, the riverside night view isn't great; Jinghong isn't like other big cities. I spent the night there last night, listening to street singers for a long time. The heat wasn't as intense at night, and it was truly cozy. I wish time could stand still at that moment.

By Floating Desert |

I went to Gaozhuang on April 15th, during the Water Splashing Festival. There was a market, Dai barbecue, and a party. It was next to the Lancang River, and the Dai people's glutinous rice cakes were delicious.

Our hotel is located in Gaozhuang Xishuangjing. Gaozhuang Xishuangjing, a Dai name meaning "Nine Pagodas and Twelve Villages," means "Nine Pagodas and Twelve Villages." (Remember how "Xishuang" means "twelve"?) The developer aims to recreate the splendor of ancient Jinghong and create a prosperous "City Within Jinghong." After more than seven years of development, Gaozhuang Xishuangjing has become incredibly vibrant. Rooted in the Dai culture of Xishuangbanna and incorporating the essence of Dai and Thai culture from the Greater Golden Triangle and the Mekong River Basin, it has been developed into a uniquely Southeast Asian integrated business complex. It integrates hotels, restaurants, and entertainment, offering convenient accommodation and transportation.

However, the merchants here do not "slaughter" tourists like in traditional tourist areas. At least we all think that the food and beverages are worth recommending, both in terms of price and taste. The accommodation and dining experience here are very good. I will talk about them in the itinerary of the Banna section, and I will also arrange to introduce them in detail below.

Gaozhuang and Xishuangjing are not as crowded as you might imagine during the day, but it is a different story at night, especially at the riverside night market and the night market where people are shoulder to shoulder.

Gaozhuang Xishuangjing is located on the road into Jinghong City. Its architectural style is known as the Little Lijiang. I can't say what's good about it, but I want to go there again. As a local, I still like to go to Gaozhuang for a walk and visit the night market after dinner.

By China-TravelNote users |

If you're visiting Xishuangbanna, it's a great place to stay, as it's quite convenient for getting around. There are many unique inns, which are nice and have good food. You can also visit the night market at night, but the prices are quite high. However, I have a complaint about one restaurant: the food was slow to arrive, and I had to ask for the rice several times before it arrived. Perhaps they were short-staffed, and the food was terrible. Several dishes were quite salty, and the owner was a bit rude. I strongly recommend avoiding it.

Gaozhuang Xishuangjing, a Dai name meaning "Nine Pagodas and Twelve Villages" in Chinese, is located in the heart of the Lancang River Ethnic Tourism Resort in Xishuangbanna. Adjacent to the Lancang River, it stands at the gateway to Xishuangbanna and is the first stop for tourists arriving in the city.

Gaozhuang Xishuangjing doesn't require a ticket, but parking can be difficult if you arrive late. The street market near the Golden Pagoda is a bustling night market, especially during the Lunar New Year holiday, with singing and dancing performances. It's very good, a little beyond my expectation. I thought the night market was just an underground stall, dirty, but I didn't expect it to be antique and clean. It's worth going. There are all kinds of food. The pineapple rice is especially delicious.

There are many inns and small shops, perfect for browsing! If you come to Xishuangbanna, you can stay here! You can also go to the Xingguang Night Market at night! There are many colorful lights and delicious food!

By Yelang wavelet |

It is a place where people can eat, drink, play and live. The next time you get to the ring road on the Kunming-Mozhou Expressway, it will be there.

Personally, I think Gaozhuang has a collection of all kinds of food, including Dai food, Chinese food, hot pot, Thai food, etc. The Dai-style buildings are mainly catering businesses, some of which have restaurants on the first floor and accommodation hotels upstairs, which is not very comfortable to rest!

The Aini Dai food was pretty good, with a distinct Dai flavor. I've tried several other places, but they weren't very good. I actually recommend eating in the village itself for the authentic flavor! It's much better than Gaozhuang, and the prices are much more reasonable. After all, the reason you're here is to experience authentic Dai customs!

There are many hotels near Gaozhuang, and except for the Songkran holiday, the prices are usually around 180 yuan. There's a decent white apartment hotel in Gaozhuang, a foreign-friendly hotel. It's clean and tidy. We even got a free upgrade to a family room with kitchenware, so we could cook our own meals!

The center of Gaozhuang is the Shwedagon Pagoda. There are few people there during the day, but as night falls, more and more people come. The Shwedagon Pagoda becomes very beautiful under the lights. Around the Shwedagon Pagoda is the night market (Dai people's night market).

Don't buy anything at the night market; the prices are inflated! If you want to buy, you need to be thick-skinned and bargain shamelessly! You can grab a late-night snack and order a bunch of food with your friends to brag about!

If you have any questions, you can ask me. Although I am not in Banna, I have many friends and brothers in Banna!

During the summer, Xishuangbanna's Gaozhuang and Xishuangjing districts can be quite hot during the day. Locals love cold dishes year-round. Among the cold dish restaurants I've visited, Laotian cold dishes are particularly distinctive. In Xishuangbanna, you can experience both local flavors and the famous Laotian cold dishes (the Laotian cold dish is located at Building 10, Jingde Village, Gaozhuang, Xishuangjing). I recommend visiting during the day. The night market runs from 7:00 PM to 10:30 PM, offering a wide selection of goods from various Southeast Asian countries. The Xingguang Night Market in Gaozhuang offers both unique and affordable options, making it a great value.

Gaozhuang Xishuangjing is a large complex integrating commercial, catering, accommodation, tourism and other projects. It mainly focuses on Buddhist culture with the Shwedagon Pagoda as the main feature. It is surrounded by countless inns, apartments, restaurants and food. I personally feel that staying here is more enjoyable than staying in Jinghong City. Those two- or three-story small inns are really full of ethnic characteristics and Dai style.

Gaozhuang Xishuangjing is located in Jiangbei District, Jinghong City. It is a tourist destination specially built for tourists. Gaozhuang Xishuangjing means nine towers and twelve villages!

It's fun here, especially at the Starlight Night Market at night.

Gaozhuang Xishuangjing is a large-scale complex integrating commerce, dining, accommodation, and tourism. Its core Buddhist heritage is the Shwedagon Pagoda, surrounded by numerous inns, apartments, and restaurants. I personally find staying here more engaging than in downtown Jinghong. The two- or three-story inns truly embody the ethnic and Dai customs. At night, the Shwedagon Pagoda illuminates with colorful lights, creating a breathtaking spectacle. During Chinese New Year and other festivals, the area also hosts numerous events. This past Spring Festival, I had the opportunity to experience the inaugural Dai Le Culture Festival, along with New Year performances and fireworks displays. Gaozhuang exudes a fresh and clean atmosphere, making it a great choice for a variety of travelers, whether it's a family trip, a family getaway, or a honeymoon.

Gaozhuang Xishuangjing is a Dai language, which means "Nine Towers and Twelve Villages" in Chinese. It aims to recreate the ancient splendor of Jinghong and create a prosperous "City within Jinghong". It is rooted in the Dai culture of Xishuangbanna.

Gaozhuang Xishuangjing, a Dai name meaning "Nine Towers and Twelve Villages" in Chinese, aims to recreate the splendor of ancient Jinghong and create a prosperous "city within Jinghong." Located in the heart of Jinghong's Cangjiang New District, adjacent to the Lancang-Mekong River, the project stands proudly at the gateway to Xishuangbanna, serving as the first stop for millions of tourists arriving in the city. Spanning 1,200 mu (approximately 166 acres), with a total investment of approximately 2.5 billion yuan, the project will be developed in three phases. Through the master plan of "One River, Two Gates, Nine Towers, and Twelve Villages," the project will integrate cultural, leisure, vacation, experience, entertainment, tourism, commerce, and residential functions.

It is a new business district. Some of the buildings there are quite interesting. The night market there is worth a visit. There are also many inns and restaurants.

Night is the best time to play, but there are too many people and it is noisy.

If you go during the day, it's very quiet
