The road along Erhai Lake is Huanhai West Road. The road is relatively good at first, then it leads into the village... The village road is very narrow, almost one-way, but it's also two-way. If you catch a car approaching, it's very difficult to pass it. No wonder everyone around Erhai Lake rides a scooter, the road is so narrow that only a scooter can fit...

We headed north along Huanhai West Road when, coincidentally, several golden rays of light streamed down from the clouds, scattering across the farmland beneath Cangshan Mountain. Locals came and went, oblivious to the stunning aerial scenery, leaving us breathtakingly photographing it. The two Liu Laolaos continued on their way, passing numerous flower fields selling paid travel photography services, even using flower recognition software to identify chopped green onions... We arrived near a stretch of guesthouses facing the sea, seemingly demolished to the point of remaining frames due to environmental regulations. Many locals were using the last remaining internet celebrity props on the roadside to solicit visitors, cashing in on the remaining profits.

Because the road ahead seemed to be getting more and more difficult to drive, we turned around and headed back. If it weren't for the sometimes bad road conditions on Huanhai West Road, driving an electric car around the sea would still be a very pleasant experience.

It has been renovated and is now only accessible by foot or bicycle, making it seem even more secluded.

Cycling around Erhai Lake, the scenery of Haixi is the most unique, especially at sunset when you can see Cangshan Mountain.

West Huanhai Road is a scenic avenue built along Erhai Lake. Its terminus is Taoyuan Village. It is the most beautiful ring road around the lake in China.

The reeds at the bottom of Yuanyang Creek are very beautiful, and the view of Erhai Lake in the distance is vast.

The scenery along the Erhai West Road is charming. (Special reminder: a large part of the road is not very flat.) There are street lights on the road after dark, so you don't have to worry too much. (I personally recommend leaving early, and if you are traveling alone, try to reach Taoyuan Wharf before dark.) On the way, you will feel like you are in the middle of nowhere, and many hotels on Erhai Lake are closed, so it is not easy to find an inn.

Before we set off, the car dealership owner warned us that the road conditions on Huanhai West Road were bad and it was easy to get stuck, so he advised us to avoid it if possible. We drove as far as we could. The traffic was so heavy that it was difficult to stop and take a good photo of the beach. I could only seize the opportunity from the passenger seat, catching glimpses of the water through the crowds.

Rent a scooter and follow the West Huanhai Road, taking in the beauty of Erhai Lake, its seagulls, trees, and villages. Stop and go as you please. With blue skies and white clouds, and the tranquil waters at your side, we journey forward. There are bumps, there are rough terrain, there are villagers, there are moments of fear, but this is all part of our experience. A jeep-style photoshoot around the lake offers a unique experience. Let loose, as the clear honking of birds streaks across the sky, and white figures nimbly glide across the lake, adding a vibrant touch of color to Erhai Lake. And remember to bring the seagulls' beloved bear biscuits.

By Shizi |

Huanhai West Road is particularly beautiful because of the idyllic environment created by the renovation of Erhai Lake. Winter cherry trees are in full bloom, pink in color, lining both sides of the road.

The fields were lush with vegetables, and people worked in the fields all day. Some built earthen stoves by the fields, burning wood to cook for the workers who were harvesting the vegetables. Blue smoke rose from the vast plains, slowly fading and melting into the blue sky.

We set out on our green bikes from Yu'er Road, cycling north along Huanhai West Road along the Erhai Lake. Not far from the ancient city, the countryside begins. Starting from Cai Village, we passed several Bai villages along the way. The green rice and vegetable fields evoked a romantic, pastoral atmosphere. Small boats dotted the crop fields, a characteristic of these fishing villages. Next to a roadside house covered in orange blossoms, an elderly Bai man sat basking in the sun. The flowers were in full bloom. Inside, what looked like a cafe, the owner played guitar. Mountains, water, and countryside—this is perhaps the tranquil life hermits yearn for. Cycling along the country road, listening to music, we watched the clouds roll by, the autumn scenery unfolding as far as the eye could see. The breeze was gentle, the sun was just right. Turning a corner, Erhai Lake finally appeared before us again. The azure waters stretched boundlessly across the vast expanse, shimmering in the sunlight. I've heard that Erhai Lake has been severely polluted in recent years, and there are indeed a lot of green duckweed growing near the shore due to pollution. However, local efforts to combat pollution are very strong. To protect Erhai Lake, I saw that all the hotels and restaurants in Haixi, along the way from the ancient city, were closed. They say they're gradually reopening after the sewage system is fully upgraded.

The only way around Erhai Lake is to enjoy the beautiful scenery along the way. Worth experiencing

Rent a car and drive along the Ring Road around Erhai Lake. The scenery is beautiful all the way. You can stop and walk along the beach when you see the shallows. It is very beautiful.

By Cai Cai |

Generally, many people who go to Erhai Lake start from the ancient city and go around the lake, so Huanhai West Road is the only way. The scenery is still good, but it has been under renovation recently, so the road condition is not very good. Maybe it’s because I walked through some small alleys.

My friend and I had originally planned to tour Erhai Lake in two days on electric scooters, but things went wrong. My friend felt really bad for us. Back to the point, we rented electric scooters from Dali for a day, heading first to Longkan Wharf and then to Huanhai West Road. More on that later. The price of an electric scooter is based on the distance covered, usually between 50 and 100 yuan. We started from Boai Road and were so excited. We couldn't stop taking photos. We were originally going with another friend, but she ended up leaving it alone, so we went alone. We sped along, and somehow, as we were on Huanhai West Road, we kept seeing road construction going on and the surface was very uneven. Later, as we were looking for a restaurant, my friend, who's not a very good driver, accidentally fell while turning. It was incredibly painful, but thankfully, a couple passed by and helped us. We later discovered the scooter was also slightly damaged. We then went to a place called Xilan Restaurant for dinner, and the owner was very welcoming. As I mentioned earlier, after my friend got injured, we tried to ask the owner to park our electric scooter. Hahaha, we gave the owner the key, but he thought it was the car at the door and couldn't open it. It was hilarious. My friend and I ordered four dishes and a soup, and the owner added a plate of homemade pickles and radishes. It was quite delicious, and the food was very affordable. I asked the owner if there was a car repair shop nearby. After we explained, the owner understood the situation and kept reminding us to be careful. Later, a friend of the owner came to play mahjong and saw us chatting. He offered to help us fix our car. He also told us he was from Guizhou and had come here ten years ago and said it was a great place to live. Of course, I was very grateful to them. After dinner, we had to leave for Dali Ancient Town because my friend had injured her foot, and she had to hide it from the rental owner. It was so heartbreaking. The owner watched us leave. I remember taking a photo of the restaurant so I can share it with others. While the scenery along Huanhai West Road is beautiful, I still have to say it's important to be safe when out and about. Don't drive as recklessly as my friend and I did. Later, when we were in Shuanglang, a business owner told us about a man who died two years ago after driving his car into the sea. I don't know why we were so bold back then, but what really touched me most was the friends who didn't even know us but helped us.

This section of road is very suitable for cycling, with Cangshan Mountain in the back and Erhai Lake in the front, and fields and villages on both sides. It is really very pleasant and beautiful.

By lvxiyao |

The scenery along Huanhai West Road is quite nice. We drove by ourselves, so if we had time, we could rent a bicycle and ride from the ancient city.

By 7th Street Old Friends |

The scenery of Huanhai West Road is very beautiful. I passed by a small part of it, but now it is basically under construction and pipelines are buried. It’s a pity. I will go again.

By Pessimistic Zongzi |

Driving, there are Cangshan Mountain on one side and Erhai Lake on the other. You can find dead trees by the water inadvertently.

By Happy Ranger |

Haixi Road outside the Dali Ancient City is a beautiful road, but now there are constructions everywhere, which affects the scenery.

By Liu Yuejin |

The road is under construction and you need to take a detour. You will find out how to go when you get there. The scenery is still great.

By long beard |

Huanhai West Road is located on the west side of Erhai Lake, but it has many branches leading to the countryside. You have to discover it yourself. Sometimes you can also get different scenery on the small road.

By inBoss |

The route from Xizhou to Butterfly Spring, Taoyuan Village, Phoenix Peninsula, and Hewei Village all falls within the scope of the West Ring Road. You can ride a bicycle or rent a car to enjoy the different views of Erhai Lake. Beside the road are the Bai ethnic group buildings and Cangshan Mountain, which are very beautiful under the sunlight.

By Single eyelids |

We rented a car and drove along the coastal road. The road was under construction at the beginning, so we took the highway to Shuanglang. However, the subsequent road was very beautiful! I sincerely recommend renting a car!

By Has Joe_ |

Huanhai West Road is a must-do on any trip to Dali. Although the route was a bit winding due to the sewage pipeline under construction, I stumbled upon all sorts of beautiful sights! Highly recommended!

The road was under construction when we went there, but cycling around Huanhai West Road is a very good choice.

I like the feeling of quietly watching Erhai Lake, taking in the scenery in front of me, and then hiding it in my heart. When I recall it later, it is a happiness that others cannot share.

The occasional loneliness and solitude can be relieved by facing the clear Erhai Lake.

By Sejin |

The road is under construction right now, so it's not very convenient to see the scenery. My friends and I rented a four-wheeled bicycle and rode around the sea all the way to Xiaguan Village. Don't be fooled by the weather in March, it was sometimes windy, sometimes rainy, and sometimes sunny, but it was still fun to ride around the sea. The feeling of riding around the sea was really great. Erhai Lake needs to be seen and experienced in person. Just looking at photos and videos can't describe its beauty and shock.

By Johnny |

The most worthwhile thing about the coastal road is the scenery along the way. You can stroll with your loved one among the mountains, rivers, clouds and sky, or drive slowly by, or ride a bicycle leisurely together, or walk slowly... The unintentional romance, calmness, elegance and tranquility will make people linger in the aftertaste. At this moment, the sky is the same color, and the years are blended into colorful clouds!

By Alick |

There were many friends taking wedding photos along the way... The scenery was so beautiful that it is hard to describe.

By Xingxia-Happy Star Travel |

The scenery of Erhai Lake is very good. You can ride a bicycle on the highway around the sea. It's pretty good. Just be sure to wear sunscreen.

By Vivian |

There is a road around Erhai Lake. You can rent a car, bicycle, or battery car and spend two or three days to walk slowly along this road and enjoy the scenery along the way. It is very beautiful.

By 尐Wěi巴 |

The road was under construction when we went there. I don’t know how it is going now, but it should be good when it is completed.

By Bethanyshadow |

Huanhai West Road is full of pastoral scenery along the way. You will pass by rapeseed fields, strawberry gardens, blueberry gardens, etc. The village's architecture is simple and elegant, but the road conditions are very poor and crowded. It is not recommended to drive by yourself. You can rent a small electric stove and walk around slowly.

By Ma Jie Ke |

Because of the ongoing development, many areas are under renovation. You'll notice that many of the renovated areas are in great condition, while the rest are just full of potholes and rundown. Plus, it seems the locals aren't very efficient, which ruins the scenery along the way!

By Sad tears and flesh |

Around the summer of 2014, it was a great experience to go cycling with good friends.

By Xin Pangpang |

You can find all the ways you can think of, such as driving, RV, cycling, hiking, etc. here. It has not been fully developed yet, so come and take a look!

By 丨Ye Xianglun |

Anyone planning to visit Erhai Lake will definitely pass by Huanhai West Road first, but I honestly think Huanhai West Road is quite ordinary. First, there are too many people, and second, there are too few scenic spots on the road. It is more about looking at Bai ethnic architecture. There are not many places to see the sea at all. The entire Erhai Lake is beautiful. If you travel by car, you must drive around it. The scenery is very beautiful.

By zking |

Very nice place, beautiful scenery, but there are too many stalls charging for taking photos

By 【rather】 |

On the way around Erhai Lake, you can rent a small battery car and stroll along the way without deciding on a destination. It is very pleasant.

By Kayan_CCCCCC |

We rented two bicycles and rode along the Erhai Lake. It was a bit sunny and windy, so the ride was a bit tiring. But the beautiful scenery made it all worth it.

By A dazzling array of products |

After a month of wandering around in Yunnan, I couldn't believe that the colorful south of Yunnan, which I had been thinking about for many years, was right in front of me. Now when I come back, I still dream of the Cangshan Mountain and Erhai Lake in Dali, the blue sky and white clouds.

By Caterpillar Loves Travel |

It's easy to ride an electric scooter. The rental fee is 60 yuan a day. Charging is very convenient. There are charging places on the road. But you must take sun protection measures. The ultraviolet rays on the plateau are very strong.

By I really want to go to the pill |

Very beautiful memories, the water is very clean and the sky is very blue.

By Stupid Fusu |

Beautiful scenery is not a place, but your journey. The whole journey is beautiful. The sea and the sky are one color, and you forget everything else!

By Karubin_xx |

When we went there, Huanhai West Road was under construction and many sections were cordoned off and not accessible. We didn’t walk entirely along the Huanhai Road, so it was a little inconvenient. However, the scenery on Huanhai West Road was really beautiful, and we even saw an amazing sunrise there!

By Blue low color temperature |

Unlike the East Huanhai Road, the West Huanhai Road is more imbued with a cultural and pristine atmosphere. We started in the ancient city and headed to Longkan Village, the closest village on the West Huanhai Road, circling the coast clockwise. In the entire day, we only reached Taoyuan Village in Xizhou Town on the West Huanhai Road. The more famous Cai Village, Panxi, Yinqiao Town, and Xizhou Ancient Town along the West Huanhai Road are all well worth a visit. In short, if you enjoy photography, you can't miss it.

By Peng & Mai |

Once in Dali, a trip around Erhai Lake is a must; otherwise, it would be a real shame. There are two routes, the East and the West, each with its own unique charm. We rented an electric scooter and rode the West Route, starting from the Three Pagodas and heading north. We visited Xizhou Island, Haishe Park, and other places along the way, which was quite enriching. The West Route connects villages and rice paddies at the foot of Cangshan Mountain, creating a truly picturesque experience. You can gaze at both the sea and the mountains, experiencing the diverse culture of the Bai people. You don't have to worry about getting lost on the West Route, as there are always crowds of people visiting. However, due to road construction on some sections of the West Route, we had to turn back onto the Dali National Highway several times, which was a bit tiring.

By AT-1314 |

The road close to Erhai Lake is a good place for sightseeing by bicycle or electric car. Many villages along the road are not commercially developed and are relatively natural.

By Stonefish |

In my personal opinion, the scenery of Huanhai West Road is generally better than that of Huanhai East Road.

By Only you are my paradise |

If possible, I would like to live by Erhai Lake for a long time!

[Talking about Dali] Every place has its own unique qualities, and Dali is no exception. Even compared to nearby Lijiang, its atmosphere is strikingly different, attracting a constant stream of those interested. Five or six years ago, Wu Bofan and Liang Dong discussed the topic of escaping the big city on a China National Radio program. They touched on the Dali phenomenon, which resonated with my perception, understanding, and imagination of the place. It didn't appeal to me, so much so that even when I visited Lijiang later, I didn't think to squeeze in a visit to Dali. But from time to time, hearing about friends' plans to visit Dali, I'd been tempted to put it on my travel plans. After several postponements (still due to a lack of motivation), I finally decided to fly there this year due to an unexpected event. While the four or five days were filled with stories, the trip was nothing more than a quickie. It didn't change my existing perception of the city, nor did it leave a lasting impression. A few points worth mentioning: ① Dali locals are relatively friendly, while foreign businesspeople are generally unremarkable, a stark contrast to Lijiang. ② As for the scenery, Cangshan Mountain and Erhai Lake are the star attractions. Since they can't move or move, their presence and absence depend on the weather, adjusting and changing the appearance of clouds. The region's geographical characteristics also make it unlikely to experience significant changes in the weather. As a result, the scenery remains almost constant: fresh at first glance, average at second, and perhaps unimpressive at third. After that, there's no real urge or desire to see it again. I spent three days at Erhai Lake, at different times in a row, and was struck by the constant presence of a nearly identical cloud patch in the northern sky. Every evening, looking west over Cangshan Mountain, the clouds that obscured the sunset appeared at similar times, colors, and shapes. ③ While both Dali and Lijiang Old Towns (Dayan Ancient Town) are brimming with commercial atmosphere, they differ significantly in scale, management, environment, and atmosphere. After visiting Renmin Road once, I had little desire to visit it again. Those who enjoy Lijiang don't need to visit Dali. ④ Unless there's a special reason or work commitment, most people clamoring to move to Dali won't be able to stay long-term. At least that's the case with me. ⑤ I believe that Dali will have many major environmental changes that are conducive to tourism and living in the future, but that will definitely follow the overall development and changes of China, and there will not be anything unexpected.

The main cycling section around Haixi is the round trip from Dali Ancient Town to Xizhou, so it is best to rent a high-powered electric vehicle.

The biggest highlight of cycling around the sea is that you never know what kind of beautiful scenery is waiting for you ahead, so you are full of anticipation and curiosity along the way.

Whenever we come across a beautiful view or a terrace with a wide view of the sea, we will stop the car immediately to take pictures or quietly appreciate the beauty of Erhai Lake.

The scenery along the West Coast Ring Road is beautiful, but since some sections of the route are currently under construction, every time I reach a construction section, I have to go through a nearby village to the Dali Highway, then back to the West Coast Ring Road at a certain point. This roundabout route is not very enjoyable and wastes a lot of time.

By SubmitFly |

The scenery is very beautiful. I stayed in Dali Ancient Town and rented an electric car along Huanhai West Road all the way to Xizhou Ancient Town. Since we set off late and the battery was not enough, we could not go any further.

By After school |

The West Sea Ring Road is the western route around Erhai Lake. Its main attractions include the Three Pagodas, Xizhou Island, and the Sea Sheath. It's a must-see route around Erhai Lake in Dali. I highly recommend visiting the Sea Sheath, as the scenery there is truly stunning.

By Four |

I rented a car in the ancient city this morning and rode to Erhai Lake.

The route is as follows: Start from Dali Ancient Town, go to Cai Village, then ride along Huanhai West Road to Longkan, and then return to Dali Ancient Town.

There are easy-to-understand road signs along the way, so you can basically get rid of Baidu Maps.

Huanhai West Road is very beautiful, with large fields of rapeseed flowers in March.

By Sun Damie |

The West Huanhai Road is built along Erhai Lake. When you ride an electric bike, you can hear the wind from Erhai Lake and see the blue sky and white clouds when you look up. The scenery is breathtaking.

Huanhai West Road surrounds Erhai Lake. Looking up, you can see Cangshan Mountain in the distance. You can also see Bai women working on the farm and many distinctive Bai houses. It passes through many villages and towns. It feels so good to ride an electric motorcycle around the lake. If you have the chance, you should go there again.

By Dilancashire |

Pastoral scenery, various flower fields and beautiful scenery, suitable for taking pictures!

After exiting Haishe Park, turn left and ride along Erhai Lake. This road is Huanhai West Road, which leads to Dali. It is about 23 kilometers away. We did not ride to Dali. We rode about 7 kilometers and then went back to Taoyuan Village. The whole way is around Erhai Lake. The scenery is quite beautiful and the view is very broad. Facing Cangshan Mountain and Erhai Lake, the mood is much more relaxed. There are not many people on this road. Most of them are tourists riding donkeys for sightseeing. Every time you come across a scenic spot, you can see tourists stopping to take pictures. Just keep going forward. There are no forks along the whole road, so there is no need to worry about getting lost.

By Let me hear you sing a song |

It's still very beautiful. I like the environment here very much.

By Axun wants to see the world |

The highlight of the trip is the West Coast Road, which runs from Dali Old Town to Xizhou Ancient Town. The road hugs the shores of Erhai Lake, and at some points, waves crash onto the road. This section is also the busiest, with many returning to Dali after arriving in Xizhou, making it a day trip.

By Jia |

The most worthwhile attractions in Dali, it is recommended to ride or drive, the scenery is endless!

By Waiting for the wind to come |

The only way to go around Erhai Lake is through villages of all sizes. It feels extraordinary.

I think the beauty of Dali lies in its rural scenery, and the beauty of the rural scenery lies in the West Huanhai Road. Along the way, you will discover many beautiful sights, often some unexpected beauty.

By Meng Xiaohu |

On Huanhai West Road, you must ride an electric bike, facing the sun, blue sky, white clouds, and Erhai Lake in Dali. I think this should be the happiest thing in life.

Huanhai West Road is mainly composed of local buildings. If you want to experience the real Huanhai Road, it is recommended to go to Shuanglang.
