Chaoyang Tower is the symbol of Jianshui Ancient City. Both its structure and the four characters "雄镇东" (Heroic Town in the Southeast) are magnificent. Inside is a small exhibition of county chronicles, which shows that Jianshui has been a place of prosperity and talent since ancient times.
The building is 24.5 meters high, 12.31 meters deep, 26.8 meters wide, and covers an area of 414 square meters. It has five bays and three entrances. On the east side hangs the large characters "Heroic Town Southeast" written by a Qing Dynasty calligrapher.
Chaoyang Tower, the Yinghui Gate, the eastern gate of the old city of Lin'an (the ancient name of Jianshui), is imposing and worthy of its status as the capital of southern Yunnan. A large plaque with the words "Heroic Town in the Southeast" hangs beneath the tower's eaves, strikingly enough. Each character measures 3-4 meters square. It was inscribed by Tu Xu, a Jinshi (Jinshi) awarded during the Qianlong reign of the Qing Dynasty. During the Tang Dynasty, the Nanzhao Kingdom built an earthen city in Jianshui. In the 20th year of the Hongwu reign of the Ming Dynasty (1387 AD), the Lin'an Guard was established in Jianshui, and the city was rebuilt into a brick city. In the 22nd year of the Hongwu reign, Chaoyang Tower was built atop the city wall. It features a three-tiered hip roof, three stories high, 24.45 meters tall, five bays 26.8 meters wide, and three halls 12.31 meters deep. It is a large wooden structure connected by 48 massive pillars and beams. The "Jianshui Prefecture Chronicle" records the scene of "East Tower Reaching the Han River."
You can go up to the building, the ticket price seems to be 10 yuan, and the game usually takes 30-60 minutes.
Chaoyang Tower, a symbol of Jianshui, was originally the eastern tower of Lin'an Prefecture. Construction began in 1389, the 22nd year of the Hongwu reign of the Ming Dynasty. It was rebuilt five times, namely in 1463, the 7th year of the Tianshun reign of the Ming Dynasty, 1737, 1799, 1850, and finally in 1955, ultimately remaining intact. The tower, perched atop the over-eight-meter-high city wall and supported by 48 massive pillars, exudes a majestic grandeur.
You can climb the tower, which is worth a visit. Jianshui has a great feel. It ranks higher than all the ancient towns in Dali, Lijiang, and Dukezong.
There is an old photo exhibition about the ancient city of Lin'an on the tower at the east gate of Jianshui Ancient City. The night view here is very beautiful, and it is recommended to come here at night.
On the east side of Jianshui Ancient City, at the east end of Lin'an Road, is Chaoyang Tower.
It is also the east gate of the ancient city and a landmark building of Jianshui Ancient City.
It's spectacular, the night view is beautiful, and there is a fee to go up to the city wall.
There are many local people relaxing downstairs in the square in front of Chaoyang Building.
The Chaoyang Tower is brightly lit in the night, and occasionally there are wandering singers singing in the doorway of the Chaoyang Tower at night.
When we visited, Chaoyang Tower was under renovation, so we couldn't see its true appearance. The large characters "Heroic Town" were faintly visible in the southeast. Inside, the second floor exhibited photographs of life in southern Yunnan taken by a French photographer a century ago. The dates of each renovation were recorded on the rooftop rafters.
In the evening, you can climb up the city wall and have a panoramic view of the ancient city.
The setting sun melts gold, the evening clouds merge into one, "flying clouds and flowing clouds".
The tower is the commanding height of the ancient city, offering panoramic views of the city's diverse architecture and new sights. Inside the tower, there are three floors dedicated to an exhibition of vintage photos taken by the French consul in Jianshuimeng.
Jianshui, a county town that organically combines tradition and modernity, is calm and relaxed.
It is of great historical value. Standing on the tower, you can enjoy the view of the old city.
From the third floor of Chaoyang Tower, you can basically overlook the entire Jianshui Ancient City. The buildings in the ancient city are very low, and you can see the end at a glance. It has an antique style and a sense of age.
Under the blue sky, outside the red walls, local rickshaw drivers brave the scorching sun as they wait for their next passenger, a truly unique sight. Enjoy a leisurely tour of the ancient city on a chartered rickshaw, chat with the drivers, and learn even more about its hidden gems!
Jianshui Chaoyang Tower has an east-facing gate, with a semicircular plaza outside and a driveway beyond. Mornings are better for taking photos here, while evenings offer backlight. This photo was taken in the evening.
It's just average, maybe the lighting will be better at night. For reference only.
On a bright morning, the Chaoyang Building was bustling with people, including those playing chess and selling flowers and birds, creating a lively scene of life.
I went there at night. After all, I had just arrived in the afternoon. I had nothing to do so I walked around after eating skewers. After buying the ticket, I went upstairs. However, I couldn’t go into the room. The door was locked from the outside. I didn’t know if it was open during the day. Then I rang the clock, spent a few dollars to look at the moon with a telescope, and then there was nothing else. I went downstairs.
It was a bit surprising to see such a majestic city tower in the ancient town of Jianshui.
Passing by, the Chaoyang Tower under the setting sun is red and purple.
Not far from the Jade Emperor Pavilion is the Chaoyang Tower at the east gate of Jianshui Ancient City. Every afternoon and evening, it is an entertainment venue for local uncles and aunts. The city gate is crowded with old people playing poker, and in the evening, the square in front of the city gate is contracted by various square dance aunt groups.
The film festivals and small films inside are very early and expensive, and worth seeing
The night view of Chaoyang Tower is not well lit, probably because it is not a holiday. It is dark but it is okay. It was already 9 o'clock and I thought it was closed, but I still went in to take a look.
The surrounding environment is a little worse, and tourists have to cross the road, which is unsafe
Jianshui landmark, with a long history, but the traffic is too heavy! It would be very comfortable if it was designed as a pedestrian street!
Jianshui's landmark building is right at the north gate of the old street. You can walk through the building's archway and see people playing cards and setting up stalls on both sides.
I saw it from the car, it was pretty good. It was a pity that I couldn't get off to watch it because the time was too short.
Chaoyang Tower is the east gate tower of Jianshui, majestically located in the center of the county. It was built in the 22nd year of Hongwu in the Ming Dynasty (1389) and has a history of more than 600 years. It is one of the main symbols of the long history of Jianshui, an important town in southern Yunnan, and a symbol of the old important town on the border of the motherland.
Very grand, a good place for taking pictures. There are many locals living leisurely in the square in front of the building.
Jianshui landmark, very beautiful at night, with many people in the square
We first came to Zhu Family Garden, and then followed the road to Chaoyang Tower. In front of it was a small square where people were sitting and taking a rest.
Ah, having my phone stolen in Jianshui is heartbreaking. But as a train enthusiast, it's heartening to see that a piece of the old Gebi Linping is still alive. The train ride was great. The DF21 0008, the only one in the world, was adorable. The last carriage is open, perfect for taking photos of the curves. I loved the old man who was in charge of the dispatching. He was so cute and even asked me to come ride again.
The Chaoyang Tower is quite impressive, but it is not necessary to go upstairs to see it. The ticket price is quite expensive.
It is unexpectedly grand, with a sense of vicissitudes of life and a strong breath of life. It’s pretty good!

As a landmark of Jianshui, the four big characters "雄镇东" on the front can still exude the dominance of the past, but the deafening square dance of the aunties downstairs instantly changed the picture. I wonder if the people who built this building could have imagined that a few years later, the aunties would be singing and dancing under the tower.
Chaoyang Tower is the ancient town's east gate, serving as the entrance to Jianshui Ancient Town and the only one of its four remaining gates. The tower itself is quite large, and what particularly impressed us was the influx of bird-walking enthusiasts from all corners of the town each morning. Hundreds of beautifully crafted wooden bird cages housing thrushes are neatly arranged along the small walls beneath the city wall, creating a truly spectacular sight. After securing their birds, the bird-walkers would chat and drool. Life here is truly leisurely.
The ancient city is quite quaint, and it's fun to live among the locals. I'd like to mention that eating fried tofu, sitting down with strangers, can be a great way to connect and have a romantic encounter. The downside is that various temples and gardens require admission to outsiders, and the prices are high. I sincerely suggest that the local government reduce or even eliminate admission fees to attract more tourists.
If you go to see the night view at night, you can see Jianshui City from a distance by climbing up the city wall, but the city management is very average.
The Chaoyang Tower under the night sky is ancient and charming, which is one of the characteristics of Jianshui Ancient City.
And the ancient city tower, Jianshui Dadongmen, was almost bombed by Japanese planes. It costs 20 yuan to enter the city, and old photos and videos from more than 100 years ago are exhibited inside.
It's a very majestic city wall with colorful lights at night. You can also go up to the city wall, but you need to buy a ticket.
As a landmark building in Jianshui, the night view is beautiful. During the day, the city wall is crowded with people playing cards, making it very lively.
I bought a half-price ticket for 10 yuan during the day and was able to overlook Jianshui City, but I think it looks better at night.
On New Year’s Eve in 2015, I was in Jianshui. I went to the city wall to set off fireworks and ring the bells at night. It was unforgettable.
Chaoyang Tower stands majestically in the center of the county town. It is one of the main symbols of the long history of Jianshui, an important city in southern Yunnan. Standing on the roof, you can overlook the scenery of the ancient city.
The city has four gates: Yinghui Gate in the east, Fu'an Gate in the south, Qingyuan Gate in the west, and Yongzhen Gate in the north. In the late Ming Dynasty, the three towers in the west, north, and south were destroyed in war, leaving only the east tower.
It is one of the main symbols of the long history of Jianshui, an important city in southern Yunnan.
I have been to Jianshui at least three times, and every time I go, Chaoyang Tower is a must-see. The large inscription "Heroic Town in the Southeast" by the fourth brother on the tower always makes people feel the dominance of Lin'an in the past.
Everyone will pass by the city tower at the gate of Jianshui Ancient City.
Between spring and summer, the purple swallows that nest under the eaves fly around the building and chirp endlessly, creating a magnificent scene. They flew too fast to capture a clear picture.
The night view of Chaoyang Tower is also super beautiful.
It's not too far from the city center, and there's a bus that passes by. Since I didn't know the opening hours, I thought I couldn't go up there, so I ended up going the night before. But I'm a sucker for city walls and ancient buildings; any city wall is beautiful. Plus, there are two ancient buildings. The other one has been converted into a real estate office and is closed to the public, so this is the only one open to the public! Looking at Chaoyang Tower, you can see the former prosperity of this ancient city. But now that prosperity is gone, only this tower remains to evoke imagination. There's a square in front of the building, and people come here to dance at night. Sometimes I think, this is just life.
I passed by Jianshui twice because I transited in Jianshui on my way to Yuanyang Rice Terraces. When I came back, I stayed at Jianshui Lin'an Story Inn for one night. When I passed by Chaoyang Tower, it was quite majestic. It was 6 o'clock in the afternoon, the sun was setting, and the sunlight was shining on Chaoyang Tower, which was a different scene.
Climbing up the Chaoyang Tower, you can have a panoramic view of the entire ancient city's commercial pedestrian street, overlooking the ancient city and feeling the majesty of Lin'an at that time.
Looking back at Lin'an, the century-old Jianshui, watching the sunrise from Chaoyang Tower!
The atmosphere is magnificent and suitable for shooting night scenes. When the lights are turned on at night, the scenery is beautiful.
Just before arriving in Jianshui, the highway was jammed for an hour due to a traffic accident. By the time we arrived at the Jianshui Youth Hostel, it was already 9:30 PM. We treated ourselves to a steaming bowl of red whistle beef rice noodles and barbecue at the Hui Muslim Mayong BBQ. At least we could still take photos of Chaoyang Tower at night! Many locals were dancing and boxing in the square, and the lights were beautiful at night. It's also beautiful to take photos during the day when there's a blue sky, right at the entrance to the ancient city. You can't miss it.
I like this place very much. It is quiet and full of life. Especially in the evening, I watch the sunset over the ancient town from the city wall.
In the evening, the square in front of Jianshui Chaoyang Tower is crowded with residents who love to dance and sing. There are many teams performing different dance styles. Those on the left are dancing the most dazzling ethnic style, those on the right are dancing waltz, those in the back are dancing disco, and those in the front are dancing cowboy dance. I think only Jianshui can have such an impact. Not only are there a variety of dance styles, but dancing modern dance in front of the gate tower with a history of more than 600 years undoubtedly reflects mankind's respect for and inheritance of traditional culture and acceptance and innovation of modern culture.
From the majestic city wall, you can walk into the ancient city of Jianshui and feel the breath of history.
Located in the old city of Jianshui, it's a small city wall with a 20-yuan entrance fee. Inside, there's an exhibition of old photos. It's a great place to watch the sunset.
They asked for a ticket, 20 yuan. It was a real rush. They're just charging for things our ancestors have kept. I didn't go in. I just wandered around the bottom and left.
Visit Chaoyang Tower (east end of Lin'an Road), no tickets are required, the scenery at night is nice, you can climb up the tower to see it.
The sun's rays shone brightly on Chaoyang Tower, and the three large characters "Yinghui Tower" in front of the tower shone brightly in the sunlight, giving it an elegant and majestic look. Unfortunately, when I visited, the sun had already risen above the city wall, and the strong sunlight made the tower look like a large reflector, losing some of its softness.
Climbing up the Chaoyang Tower, which is open to the public for free, citizens were dancing, exercising, or sitting around chatting in the crescent-shaped square. Most of those watching from the railing like me were tourists from Yunnan Province.
Even with the music, I felt at peace, a rhythm that was impossible to achieve in previous journeys.
Arriving at Chaoyang Tower, I suddenly forgot my hunger and quickly pulled out my camera for a burst of snaps. With only a fixed focus lens, I felt constrained. After a brief walk around, I entered the building. The ancient charm was exactly what I had hoped for, but unfortunately, I hadn't done enough research. Curious, I explored every inch of the ancient building, spending a full three hours inside, stopping here and there, sitting on the bench at the entrance, and watching the people coming and going. They were all just passing through, just like me...
The city gate was built in the 22nd year of Hongwu in the Ming Dynasty. The four characters "Heroic Town in the Southeast" are hung on the front of Chaoyang Tower, and the building is magnificent.
It is a very old building. It has been renovated in several periods. I remember it was built in the 1913s. It is hundreds of years old. Many officials in ancient times came from here. They were all born as scholars.
Since there is no Honghe Cigarette Factory in Honghe, I had to choose Chaoyang Tower instead. I went there specifically to see Hongta Mountain when I passed by Honghe during my motorcycle tour of Xishuangbanna in 2008.
Chaoyang Tower (East Gate), nicknamed the "Little Tiananmen," was built 28 years earlier. The four characters "雄镇东南" (Heroic Town in the Southeast) on the tower remind us of its former glory.
A wonderful light show is held on Chaoyang Tower every night
