Jiuding Longtan

If you walk about a hundred meters northwest along Shuhe Street, which runs through the north and south, you will see one of Shuhe’s famous attractions: Jiuding Dragon Pond, also known as "Dragon Spring" by the locals.

Nestled between Longquan Mountain to the west and Qinglong River to the east, Jiuding Dragon Pond consists of two semicircular stone pools, one above and one below. A pavilion stands between the two pools, offering the best vantage point for viewing the pond. The waters of Jiuding Dragon Pond originate from crevices in the rocks at the foot of Longquan Mountain. While shallow, the waters remain turbid in summer and shallow in winter. Clear, flowing waters flow from the rocky crevices, perpetually nourishing the ancient town. Surrounding the pond are lush green willows that hang down to the ground and lush cypresses that point to the sky. The spring waters are crystal clear, and fish abound within them, revered by locals as sacred fish. Legend has it that in the past, someone attempting to catch the fish was struck by lightning, and to this day, no one has dared to do so.

At Jiuding Longtan, you can see the "Reflection of Snow Mountain", "Knocking Sound of Broken Monument" and "Family Relationship" among the eight scenic spots in Shuhe.

The waters of the lake are crystal clear, bubbling day and night. The Shuhe people revere it as a sacred spring, leading to the construction of Longquan Temple. The temple's furnishings are similar to those of other temples in the ancient city, but in a corner facing the water's source, there's a "Three Saints Palace" pavilion, a traditional quadrangle courtyard housed in a shrine dedicated to the founder of leatherwork. As a source of pride for the Shuhe people, the area is home to many skilled leather craftsmen, and it's also a major distribution center for furs.

Walk 100 meters north along Shuhe Street and you'll find the source of the stream, the Jiuding Dragon Pond. Its waters are crystal clear, bubbling day and night, and revered by the Shuhe people as a sacred spring. The water is so clear you can even see the fish. The reflections of many willow trees in the water are stunning, as clear as a painting.

At the end of Shuhe Ancient Town, we arrived at Jiuding Dragon Pond, where the green lake scenery was beautiful.

The water in the Dragon Pond is a bluish-green color. When it's illuminated by the sun, it really looks like a piece of jade. It's very beautiful. It's crystal clear, and you can see the bottom. There are some unknown water plants under the water, and there are many small fish. Seeing them swimming so happily, I also want to jump in and swim. Just kidding.

Although it had just rained when I visited, the leaves on the surface of the water didn't detract from the visual effect; instead, they added to the charm. It's truly a beautiful sight that's truly enjoyable no matter how you look at it.

Walk into the mountains along Shuhe Ancient Town, and then walk forward for about three minutes after exiting the ancient town to reach here. Along the way, you can also see many vegetable fields and villagers working in the fields.

Of course, the "No Fishing" sign in large red letters on a white background beside the pond only serves to dampen the appetite of foodies. Without these boisterous fish stirring up the water's surface, Jiuding Dragon Pond would be so clear that it's hard to imagine there's even water there.

The stone tablet beside Longtan makes a crisp sound when hit with a stone! This is the "Broken Tablet Sound" in the Eight Scenic Spots of Shuhe. It's a bit ridiculous, because hitting the stone doesn't make any sound!

Jiuding Longtan is located in Shuhe Ancient Town. I don't feel anything special about Jiuding Longtan. I think it's just an ordinary small pond.

The river water is crystal clear and the air by the river is particularly fresh. I feel like my shortness of breath symptoms have gone away. It feels great to walk along the path by the river.

Whether it's night or morning, this is such a quiet and peaceful place! This quiet Jiuding Dragon Pond, with its clear water, swaying water plants, and sparse crowds of tourists, makes me wonder if it's a fake scenic spot.

Next to Longquan Temple is the "Nine Cauldrons Dragon Pond." "Nine Cauldrons" comes from the nine hills in the north of the town, and "Dragon Pond" probably comes from the "Longquan Temple." The water is very clear, and although the pond is small, it is quiet and peaceful.

Another place that appears due to legend, the water in the pool will produce ripples when jumping, which is actually caused by vibration. In the mouth of the tour guide, it is the magic in the legend. In reality, I can only laugh secretly.

I highly recommend this to everyone. The water at Jiuding Dragon Pond is pure and sweet. I saw local women carrying buckets to fetch water. They said the water level had dropped significantly due to the drought of the past few years, and they'd reduced their visits. The water here is incredibly delicious, completely free of additives, and the locals love to take it home. They even enthusiastically scooped some water for me to try. I couldn't refuse their kindness, so I did. It was truly delicious. If it weren't for the unpleasant sight of tree leaves and flower stalks floating in the water, I probably would have taken a few more sips. O(∩_∩)O~~

The Nine Dragon Tripod is a pillar located at the intersection of Lijingmen Scenic Area.
