Dianchi Lake is located in the center of Kunming Basin, starting from Chenggong District in the east, ending at the foot of Xishan Mountain in the west, facing Daguan Park in the north, and entering Jinning County in the south. I went there in January. Kunming has good weather, with a suitable temperature and bright sunshine. Thousands of seagulls fly here from Siberia to spend the cold winter. They fly here in early December every year and leave in early March of the following year. They arrive as scheduled every year, just like a beautiful promise. Many people come to take wedding photos by the Dianchi Lake, and there are all kinds of biscuits and breads for feeding seagulls for sale. If you like these flying elves, you can also buy some to feed them.

Dianchi Lake is located on Dianchi Road in Xishan District. Take bus No. 44, 24, 73, 94, 135, 172 or 233 and get off at Haigeng Park Station.

Dianchi Lake is free to visit. The waters of Dianchi Lake are very vast. The feeling of the big waves hitting the cliffs at the foot of Xishan Mountain is really a bit like the sea. The environment around Dianchi Lake is also great. Although it is winter, there are still many green trees and flowers blooming. The air is very fresh, which is a world of difference from the smog in the north.

We went there in winter, which is the best season to watch red-billed gulls. When we took the cable car to Xishan, we passed over Dianchi Lake and saw a few small white dots on the buoys on the water. After a closer look, we found that they were red-billed gulls. Later, we went to Haigeng Dam and found that this is the best place to watch red-billed gulls, where you can enjoy them at close range. The shore and the water are densely packed with red-billed gulls, which is really spectacular. Seagulls are not afraid of people. Some of them just stroll on the ground and will only fly away when they see someone trying to touch them. There are also many tourists, and many people feed seagulls, and the scene is very harmonious. There are special gull food and bread on the dam, but gull food is more nutritious, so seagulls can grow stronger and better adapt to long-distance migration. When we were feeding, we were afraid of being caught by the bird, but it was actually very safe. There is a Dianchi Pier on the dam. The boat ticket is 80 yuan. You can take a cruise to tour Dianchi Lake and feed seagulls on the water.

We didn't choose to take the tour bus. Instead, we walked along Dianchi Lake with my mother. There were people selling bread along the way, so we bought some to feed the seagulls. Of course, we didn't actually walk very far.

While walking, I always felt that the sun would reveal a ray of light, allowing me to see the Buddha's light, but this kind of beautiful scenery is really hard to come by. On my way back, I saw it from afar, but I was too lazy to run back to the pond.

When we were almost at the end, there were a lot of seagulls on the ground. I immediately put down my bag, handed the camera to my mother, sat on a stone bench, and started posing for photos. Well, there were still some residual waves on the bench, and it was a bit cold. If I didn't tell you, you would definitely not know.

When I came to the Haigeng Dam of Dianchi Lake, my eyes lit up. Because it's not that Dianchi Lake is too big, but that there are too many red-billed gulls! As far as the eye can see, there are large groups of them. Some of them rise and fall on the lake surface, drifting with the waves; some of them hover in the air, flying with wings... Especially when you have their favorite food in your hand, these elves are not timid at all, and they rush to dance around you. They may even stand on your hands, shoulders and head, fully demonstrating the harmony between man and nature. At this time, you will definitely be in a happy mood when playing with these flying elves.

More red-billed gulls surround people, dance with them, and sing a song of harmony between man and nature.

I thought it was just a lake to look at, but when I arrived at the dam, it was quite exciting. There were rows of seagulls interacting with tourists, often changing formations and flying around us. I was so excited that I kept taking videos.

After strolling around for two hours, I ate some snacks by the dam! (It is not recommended to eat snacks nearby, the taste is average.)

Oh...how should I put it? I kind of regretted my choice, although it is indeed shocking as the largest freshwater lake in Yunnan Province. There are also groups of red-billed seagulls. But I am a child who grew up by the sea...these things really have little impact on my soul.

I suggest you bring some bread or biscuits to feed the seagulls. The seagull food sold there is 10 yuan per portion, but it is too much. I just didn't use it up and carried it all the way, and I couldn't eat it myself.

The scenery is pretty good, suitable for traveling in this season. You can walk along the edge of the pool and slowly appreciate the natural scenery, which will make you feel extremely comfortable.

Every November to March of the following year is the season when red-billed gulls soar over the pond. Each one is so cute flying above the water. There are small shops selling bread and biscuits on the shore that specialize in feeding them. But if you want them to eat from your hands, you have to "cast a long line to catch a big fish" because they are very scared and will carefully and quickly "turn around and run away"!

There is a bicycle rental station nearby. A double bicycle (with a child seat) costs 30 yuan per hour, and a single bicycle costs 20 yuan per hour. The deposit is 300 yuan or your ID card. You can slowly ride your bicycle from the rental station to the foot of Xishan Mountain and then to Haigeng Village. You can park your bicycle on the side of the road and take photos with the natural plants and landscapes, or take your family to a shady place to enjoy the scenery quietly.

By Car:

If you take a taxi from the city, if you use Didi Express, it will cost about 45 yuan and take about 25 minutes. The bus only costs 4 yuan (you need to change buses once) and takes about an hour. If you ride a bicycle, you can scan the QR code with your mobile phone (Didi green, Alipay blue, Hello/Yellow Car, Mobike orange), and there are many of them, and it will take about 2 hours.

It is recommended to take a taxi when going there, and choose between taking the bus or riding a bike when coming back, because on the way you can slowly enjoy the unique scenery brought by this four-season flower city.

It started from Jinjia River in the east and slowly extended westward to end in Dianchi Lake about a mile away from the foot of Xishan Mountain. The dike is about four and a half kilometers long, and the width ranges from 40 to 50 meters to 200 to 300 meters.

Every winter, the red-billed gulls that fly here to spend the winter attract countless tourists. Bread costs 10 yuan a bag, and we happened to have lotus leaf cakes. We started to feed them, and the red-billed gulls rushed to take the food accurately. Both people and animals were very happy!

The scenery of this place is really good, as beautiful as a painting. However, there are very few seagulls in October. It is not until November that a large number of seagulls appear. Haha, you can feel it even through the screen. But when we came, there was no smell at all. We bought 3 pieces of bread for 10 yuan and fed the seagulls. It was quite fun.

Maybe we went at the wrong season. In my opinion, Dianchi Lake had no beauty that day. There were too many people and the lake water was seriously damaged. We all regretted taking the bus for a long time to come to Dianchi Lake.

Walking on the scenic road, the huge eucalyptus trees on both sides cast shadows. The sun is still dazzling, but no longer as hot.

The Dianchi cableway at the end of the scenic road can reach Xishan Forest Park. Although it uses an old-fashioned car, it is very stable. The observation deck on the top of Xishan Mountain offers a panoramic view of Kunming City.

It was cloudy when we went there☁️ but it didn't affect our mood. Siberian red-billed gulls migrate here from November to March every year🈷️ and we were lucky enough to see them. (o^^o)

There are indeed many seagulls, but they are not particularly worth seeing. The lake is the same across the country to a certain extent. I also saw more than one so-called bird lover scolding tourists, and even cursing. The tourists who were scolded just coaxed a dozen seagulls. It was obvious that they had no intention of hurting the seagulls. They were just excited for a moment and did not know how to interact with the seagulls. The "bird lover" next to him not only scolded but also cursed. There was also a "bird lover" who sat and fed the seagulls. He was unwilling to let a tourist take pictures next to him, and asked why people who came to take pictures did not buy food to feed the seagulls. There are more than one or two similar situations. The "bird lover" I am talking about is not a bird food seller, it seems that he is a local. I came to see the seagulls early in the morning and encountered similar situations several times in a row, which made me dare not approach the seagulls. My mood for the day was suddenly very bad. I called my companions to leave quickly. No one wants to be scolded for no reason when they come to play. Please ask real bird lovers to guide tourists through signs or civilized language. After all, most tourists do not know how to get along with seagulls. Don't take it for granted. You can scold those who hurt seagulls, but it is still wrong to curse. When one person is scolded, at least hundreds of people will not come here to consume. Yunnan's tourism is also being ruined little by little in this way.

The lakes in Kunming city will seem nothing special after you visit Lugu Lake.

Feeding the red-billed gulls is really an interesting thing. The scenery is pretty good when I went there for the first time. It would be even better if the water quality of Dianchi Lake was better. The red-billed gulls can only be seen in November, December and January every year. I heard that they come from Siberia to spend the winter.

It was just in time for sunrise, and Dianchi Lake was full of red-billed gulls. I had only fed pigeons in the park before, and this was my first time feeding seagulls. My hands were bitten several times, but I still insisted on feeding them. I was almost done.

From Dianchi Lake, we walked all the way to Haigeng Dam. There were more and more people, and it seemed that there was a dragon boat race.

You must go to the Sea Stem Park. The scenery there is super beautiful. Personally, I think it is more beautiful than the Green Lake Park. The red-billed gulls fly over your head and you can see them up close.
