I went there in January. Kunming has good weather, with a suitable temperature and bright sunshine. Thousands of seagulls fly here from Siberia to spend the cold winter. They fly here in early December every year and leave in early March of the following year. They arrive as scheduled every year, just like a beautiful promise. Many people come to take wedding photos by the Dianchi Lake, and there are all kinds of biscuits and breads for feeding seagulls for sale. If you like these flying elves, you can also buy some to feed them.
Dianchi Lake is located on Dianchi Road in Xishan District. Take bus No. 44, 24, 73, 94, 135, 172 or 233 and get off at Haigeng Park Station.
Dianchi Lake is free to visit. The waters of Dianchi Lake are very vast. The feeling of the big waves hitting the cliffs at the foot of Xishan Mountain is really a bit like the sea. The environment around Dianchi Lake is also great. Although it is winter, there are still many green trees and flowers blooming. The air is very fresh, which is a world of difference from the smog in the north.
We went there in winter, which is the best season to watch red-billed gulls. When we took the cable car to Xishan, we passed over Dianchi Lake and saw a few small white dots on the buoys on the water. After a closer look, we found that they were red-billed gulls. Later, we went to Haigeng Dam and found that this is the best place to watch red-billed gulls, where you can enjoy them at close range. The shore and the water are densely packed with red-billed gulls, which is really spectacular. Seagulls are not afraid of people. Some of them just stroll on the ground and will only fly away when they see someone trying to touch them. There are also many tourists, and many people feed seagulls, and the scene is very harmonious. There are special gull food and bread on the dam, but gull food is more nutritious, so seagulls can grow stronger and better adapt to long-distance migration. When we were feeding, we were afraid of being caught by the bird, but it was actually very safe. There is a Dianchi Pier on the dam. The boat ticket is 80 yuan. You can take a cruise to tour Dianchi Lake and feed seagulls on the water.
We didn't choose to take the tour bus. Instead, we walked along Dianchi Lake with my mother. There were people selling bread along the way, so we bought some to feed the seagulls. Of course, we didn't actually walk very far.
Seeing this scene, I suddenly thought of Freud's work "The Lonely Watchman".
While walking, I always felt that the sun would reveal a ray of light, allowing me to see the Buddha's light, but this kind of beautiful scenery is really hard to come by. On my way back, I saw it from afar, but I was too lazy to run back to the pond.
When we were almost at the end, there were a lot of seagulls on the ground. I immediately put down my bag, handed the camera to my mother, sat on a stone bench, and started posing for photos. Well, there were still some residual waves on the bench, and it was a bit cold. If I didn't tell you, you would definitely not know.
When I came to the Haigeng Dam of Dianchi Lake, my eyes lit up. Because it's not that Dianchi Lake is too big, but that there are too many red-billed gulls! As far as the eye can see, there are large groups of them. Some of them rise and fall on the lake surface, drifting with the waves; some of them hover in the air, flying with wings... Especially when you have their favorite food in your hand, these elves are not timid at all, and they rush to dance around you. They may even stand on your hands, shoulders and head, fully demonstrating the harmony between man and nature. At this time, you will definitely be in a happy mood when playing with these flying elves.
More red-billed gulls surround people, dance with them, and sing a song of harmony between man and nature.
I thought it was just a lake to look at, but when I arrived at the dam, it was quite exciting. There were rows of seagulls interacting with tourists, often changing formations and flying around us. I was so excited that I kept taking videos.
After strolling around for two hours, I ate some snacks by the dam! (It is not recommended to eat snacks nearby, the taste is average.)
Oh...how should I put it? I kind of regretted my choice, although it is indeed shocking as the largest freshwater lake in Yunnan Province. There are also groups of red-billed seagulls. But I am a child who grew up by the sea...these things really have little impact on my soul.
I suggest you bring some bread or biscuits to feed the seagulls. The seagull food sold there is 10 yuan per portion, but it is too much. I just didn't use it up and carried it all the way, and I couldn't eat it myself.
landscape:
The scenery is pretty good, suitable for traveling in this season. You can walk along the edge of the pool and slowly appreciate the natural scenery, which will make you feel extremely comfortable.
Every November to March of the following year is the season when red-billed gulls soar over the pond. Each one is so cute flying above the water. There are small shops selling bread and biscuits on the shore that specialize in feeding them. But if you want them to eat from your hands, you have to "cast a long line to catch a big fish" because they are very scared and will carefully and quickly "turn around and run away"!
equipment:
There is a bicycle rental station nearby. A double bicycle (with a child seat) costs 30 yuan per hour, and a single bicycle costs 20 yuan per hour. The deposit is 300 yuan or your ID card. You can slowly ride your bicycle from the rental station to the foot of Xishan Mountain and then to Haigeng Village. You can park your bicycle on the side of the road and take photos with the natural plants and landscapes, or take your family to a shady place to enjoy the scenery quietly.
Drinks:
There is a place selling yogurt in the park. It is local yogurt. The ones with black and blue lids are recommended! The black lid is additive-free, and the blue lid has higher protein. Both are 5 yuan a bottle. Don't miss it!
By Car:
If you take a taxi from the city, if you use Didi Express, it will cost about 45 yuan and take about 25 minutes. The bus only costs 4 yuan (you need to change buses once) and takes about an hour. If you ride a bicycle, you can scan the QR code with your mobile phone (Didi green, Alipay blue, Hello/Yellow Car, Mobike orange), and there are many of them, and it will take about 2 hours.
It is recommended to take a taxi when going there, and choose between taking the bus or riding a bike when coming back, because on the way you can slowly enjoy the unique scenery brought by this four-season flower city.
Dianchi Lake, also known as Kunming Lake, is 1,886 meters above sea level and covers an area of 330 square kilometers. It is the largest freshwater lake in Yunnan Province and is known as the Pearl of the Plateau. From mid-November to mid-March of the following year, thousands of red-billed gulls from Siberia gather at Dianchi Lake to spend the winter. The red-billed gulls flying over the lake have become a major landscape of Dianchi Lake.
Free admission, open all day
Feeding seagulls in Dianchi Lake is a must for every tourist. The best time for feeding is from 8 to 10 a.m., when the seagulls are hungry and flying up and down to compete for food, and they are very active.
Dianchi Park. November to March is the season for watching Siberian red-headed gulls. The scenic area will provide bread. One bag costs ten yuan. The weather will be very hot during the day. It is very hot. Without sunscreen, it is easy to get sunburned (haha, I got sunburned). When the sun sets, it will be very cold.
It is recommended to wear a thick coat and go to Yunnan Homestay Village. The ticket office is 80 yuan. I sincerely recommend you not to go. There is nothing interesting. It is all houses of different nationalities.
I didn't see flocks of water birds around Dianchi Lake, but the overall management of Dianchi Lake is good. With such a body of water in the city, the city will not be boring.
【Dianchi Lake】
Dianchi Lake, also known as Kunming Lake, Kunming Pond, Diannanze, and Dianhai, is located in the southwest of Kunming City. It is fed by the Panlong River and other rivers. The lake surface is 1,886 meters above sea level and covers an area of 330 square kilometers. It is the sixth largest freshwater lake in China and is known as the Pearl of the Plateau. The average water depth is 5 meters and the deepest is 8 meters.
The lake is 1,886 meters above sea level, 39 kilometers long from north to south, and 13 kilometers wide from east to west. The lakeshore is 163.2 kilometers long, with an area of 306.3 square kilometers and a water capacity of 1.57 billion cubic meters. It is known as the "Five Hundred Miles Dianchi Lake".
transportation:
Take bus No. 24, 44, or 73 and get off at Haigeng Park. In addition, there is a cable car from Yunnan Nationalities Village that runs between Haigeng Park and Xishan.
Free admission
Five years ago, we passed by Dianchi Lake and saw hundreds of red-billed gulls standing in rows on the railings or circling in the air on the unfinished viaduct. Since then, I have been thinking about Dianchi Lake. This time, I finally got my wish.
Dianchi Lake is located at the foot of the Western Hills, with a radius of 500 miles. You can take bus No. 44 from Kunming Railway Station to Haigeng Park on the shore of Dianchi Lake.
Haigeng was originally a long dike that extended from east to west into Dianchi Lake. It started from Jinjia River in the east and slowly extended westward to end in Dianchi Lake about a mile away from the foot of Xishan Mountain. It echoed with Xishan Mountain, Daguan Tower and other scenic spots across the water, forming a seamless tourist area. The dike is about four and a half kilometers long, and the width ranges from 40 to 50 meters to 200 to 300 meters.
Looking at the West Mountain from here, you can clearly see the appearance of Sleeping Beauty Mountain, with its clear face, graceful curves, and flowing hair. The scenery is different in each season.
Every winter, the red-billed gulls that fly here to spend the winter attract countless tourists. Bread costs 10 yuan a bag, and we happened to have lotus leaf cakes. We started to feed them, and the red-billed gulls rushed to take the food accurately. Both people and animals were very happy!
The scenery of this place is really good, as beautiful as a painting. However, there are very few seagulls in October. It is not until November that a large number of seagulls appear. This place can be said to be a must-visit place for tourism in Kunming. It is also the best place to watch seagulls. If you come to Dianchi Lake, you might as well stay more time. There are also some attractions nearby that are worth visiting.
I didn't feel much when I went there during bad weather, and the photos I took couldn't be edited. Light is still very important. The bridge fee is actually unnecessary, but we still went because we didn't have to pay. . . . The most important thing is to have fun~~
Dianchi Lake is pretty good, but the water is a little polluted by humans, and it is said that it is not as clear as before. But overall it is very beautiful, especially when looking down from the West Hill, the sight of the blue lake is indeed unforgettable.
I am from Guangdong. I feel that Dianchi Lake is very ordinary. There are rivers like this everywhere in Guangdong. It is not worth taking a boat. The wind is very strong on the boat. The second half of the performance is actually an auction of calligraphy and paintings.
Every winter, many red-billed gulls fly here from Siberia to spend the winter. People can stand on the Haigeng Dam and throw bread into the air, and the red-billed gulls can catch it with their mouths.
The 500-mile Dianchi Lake is well-deserved of its reputation. Whether you view it from afar, up close, or row a boat in it, it is a great experience.
The huge Dianchi Lake is like a sea on the Yunnan-Guizhou Plateau.
It feels a bit like Switzerland. It would be even better if the air was better.
It's interesting to feed the red-billed gulls, but the water quality is average.
The surface of Dianchi Lake is 1,886 meters above sea level and covers an area of 330 square kilometers. It is the largest freshwater lake in Yunnan and is known as the Pearl of the Plateau.
The air is very good and natural, and the photos taken do not require any filters at all
Dianchi Lake is very beautiful from a distance. But it is also seriously polluted when you look at it from a close distance. There are no red-billed gulls in Dianchi Lake in summer, which makes it less fun.
The end of May is the wrong time to go. There are no seagulls, no blue water, only green water.
It depends on the mood of the tourists. Generally speaking, there are no special attractions in Kunming. The evening at Dianchi Lake has a warm and sad feeling like a Manchester movie by the sea.
This is a must-go place, very quiet.
A good place for wind blowing, camping, playing and walking.
The environment of Dianchi Lake is getting better and better. The wind is very strong. It is recommended to go there in winter. There are many red-billed seagulls from Siberia, which is very spectacular. You can buy bread to feed them.
It's just...really...normal. The sky is not blue, and there are no red-billed gulls this month. Sure enough, there is nothing fun in Kunming.
If you bring your children or girlfriend, you can go feed the red-billed gulls. Remember to bring bread.
The red-billed owl from Siberia attracted many people to come and see it early in the morning and take pictures.
Dianchi Lake is a must-see, and Dianchi Park is also a good place to stroll. Come to the park when the dam is crowded.
In fact, there are more seagulls in the park
It is also recommended to come in the morning
Such a wide lake, many birds, very comfortable feeling
Dianchi Lake is an important tourist attraction in Kunming and a must-visit place, especially in winter when the red-billed gulls are particularly beautiful.
Compared with the red-billed gulls in Cuihu Park, the red-billed gulls in the vast Dianchi Lake are more willing to get close to humans, sometimes circling, sometimes whizzing past, and sometimes hovering around people against the wind.
It's just so-so, nothing special, just take a look and leave
Every winter until early March, red-billed gulls fly to Yunnan to spend the winter.
You can also take a picture of the seagulls eating with a piece of bread.
I'll be killed by a bunch of silly gulls, all of them fat and smart~
It is good to go there in winter, you can feed the red-billed gulls. It is recommended to feed them in the morning, because they are hungry all night, and they flock to you when you feed them. If you feed them in the afternoon, you are likely to be attacked by feces.
The wind is gentle, the water is green, and Ou Mingyue is happy.
You don’t have to go to the glass plank bridge
I came at a bad time, there were no seagulls. Seagulls will appear after December.
It's not as worthwhile as I thought. I went to Dianchi Lake in April, and the water was really not clear. But the only good feeling is that when you look out, you can see that the water and the sky are connected.
Dianchi Lake is also known as Kunming Lake. You can stroll along the scenic path on the east bank of Dianchi Lake.
Beautiful park, free, and convenient for public transportation
It feels the same as West Lake. Every winter, Siberian red-billed gulls come here to spend the winter. I didn't expect that in April, there are still a group of greedy ghosts eating here.
I have to say that the scenery is really beautiful, but you have to go up to Longmen to see it. Go up by cable car.
Try not to go during holidays as there will be too many people and the queues will be very long.
You can feed red-billed gulls, take a cruise, and ride a bicycle around the lake. If you want to feed the seagulls, you can buy some bread to bring with you. It is a bit expensive to buy it at the scenic spot. There are bicycles for rent at the scenic spot, but they are also quite expensive. It is recommended to take the bus to Yunnan National Village Station, the stop before Dianchi Lake, and then ride a shared bicycle to Dianchi Lake.
Dianchi Lake is very large. Generally, tourists who want to visit Dianchi Lake choose to go to Haigeng Park, which is a lakeside viewing platform beside Dianchi Lake. The biggest feature of Haigeng Park is that you can feed seagulls. You can bring some biscuits and bread.
I suspect we went to a fake attraction. There was almost no one there. The catering, services, and entertainment were all very incomplete. (Maybe we went to a more remote part of the attraction?)
It takes about an hour to drive from the city. Kunming has no subway yet. Due to weather and season, the scenery of Dianchi Lake did not meet expectations. I think if it is not the season for red-headed gulls, it should not be very visible.
The sun was about to set, so we looked for a place along the edge of Dianchi Lake to take pictures of the sunset. Ha, the sunset was blocked by the West Mountain, and only the afterglow was visible. The peaks of Sleeping Beauty became clearer in the afterglow of the sunset!
It is very large. The northern part is the tourist attraction, called Haigeng Park, which is no different from an ordinary park and is suitable for walking. There is a cable car in the park that can cross Dianchi Lake to Xishan. Because the weather was bad that day, we didn't go to Xishan Scenic Spot and expected that we couldn't see Dianchi Lake from the mountain, so we didn't go.
I think it's the most fun place in Kunming. And it's free.
Dianchi Lake is a park with many people. You can feed seagulls, but there is a sign next to it that you are not allowed to feed seagulls because it will affect their living habits, but!! Many people still feed them. The water in Dianchi Lake is really turbid, super turbid... I personally feel that I don't have enough time to go to Dianchi Lake, so it's better not to go.
Many tourists who come here like to buy some bread to feed the red-billed gulls (I'm not sure if these birds are red, but I saw a sign on the side of Dianchi Lake with this name, and their beaks are not red). They tear off a small piece of bread and throw it into the air or hold it in their hands, and then they will fly over and take it away. This allows us to get close to them, but I doubt whether they eat bread. I see a lot of melted bread on the water. They may fly over just because they think you really have something delicious to give them.
There are many seagulls coming to Dianchi Lake in early winter. I heard from my friends that when they came here in March or April, the whole place smelled like seagull shit. Haha, you can feel it even through the screen. But when we came, there was no smell at all. We bought 3 pieces of bread for 10 yuan and fed the seagulls. It was quite fun.
There will be a bit of sea breeze, please keep warm, it gave me a headache.
Maybe we went at the wrong season. In my opinion, Dianchi Lake had no beauty that day. There were too many people and the lake water was seriously damaged. We all regretted taking the bus for a long time to come to Dianchi Lake.
The flocks of red-billed gulls here are a must-see. They fly thousands of miles from Siberia every October to January. It can be seen that after years of management, the ecological environment of Dianchi Lake is now very good.
Several parks, high-end residential areas, folk villages and other buildings have been built around Dianchi Lake, and the scenery and climate are quite pleasant.
You can walk along the scenic road on the east bank of Dianchi Lake. In winter, citizens often come here to feed the red-billed gulls. Unfortunately, the birds have already left in May.
Walking on the scenic road, the huge eucalyptus trees on both sides cast shadows. The sun is still dazzling, but no longer as hot.
The Dianchi cableway at the end of the scenic road can reach Xishan Forest Park. Although it uses an old-fashioned car, it is very stable. The observation deck on the top of Xishan Mountain offers a panoramic view of Kunming City.
It was cloudy when we went there☁️ but it didn't affect our mood. Siberian red-billed gulls migrate here from November to March every year🈷️ and we were lucky enough to see them. (o^^o)
Kunming is the most beautiful spring city. I like it very much because it is spring all year round. In winter, the Dianchi Lake is full of flying red-billed gulls, which are very friendly to people. It is worth a visit.
This is a free park, and you don't need tickets or anything. Especially after the shared bicycles, you can ride a bike and walk along the greenway. There are also locals who go there for jogging. You can prepare some bread or biscuits to feed the seagulls there. When the weather is good, it feels like you are by the Erhai Lake.
Very comfortable weather. Very beautiful picture. Holding the hand of the lover. Walking slowly. It is a warm and romantic feeling.
As the largest freshwater lake in Yunnan, Dianchi Lake attracts a large number of Siberian red-billed gulls in winter. The blue sea and sky, the flying gulls, and feeding the gulls have become an indispensable beautiful picture of Dianchi Lake in winter.
After visiting the famous classic scenic spots at Dianchi Lake, I felt a little disappointed.
You can take a bus to Dianchi Lake, and you are allowed to feed the seagulls here.
Dianchi Lake is a place you can visit. With the red-billed gulls that migrate from Lake Baikal for the winter and the local mythical beast Dianchi Lake Monster, I still have great expectations. However, it is a pity that the water quality is now polluted by green algae, but it looks okay from a distance. There is a cruise ship by the lake that you can take. The round trip takes an hour, and you can buy the boat ticket on site. There are two highlights when the cruise ship arrives in the lake. One is the close contact with the red-billed gulls, and the other is the Sleeping Beauty by the lake (actually I think it looks more like a sleeping Buddha). It is very beautiful to see it on site.
There are indeed many seagulls, but they are not particularly worth seeing. The lake is the same across the country to a certain extent. I also saw more than one so-called bird lover scolding tourists, and even cursing. The tourists who were scolded just coaxed a dozen seagulls. It was obvious that they had no intention of hurting the seagulls. They were just excited for a moment and did not know how to interact with the seagulls. The "bird lover" next to him not only scolded but also cursed. There was also a "bird lover" who sat and fed the seagulls. He was unwilling to let a tourist take pictures next to him, and asked why people who came to take pictures did not buy food to feed the seagulls. There are more than one or two similar situations. The "bird lover" I am talking about is not a bird food seller, it seems that he is a local. I came to see the seagulls early in the morning and encountered similar situations several times in a row, which made me dare not approach the seagulls. My mood for the day was suddenly very bad. I called my companions to leave quickly. No one wants to be scolded for no reason when they come to play. Please ask real bird lovers to guide tourists through signs or civilized language. After all, most tourists do not know how to get along with seagulls. Don't take it for granted. You can scold those who hurt seagulls, but it is still wrong to curse. When one person is scolded, at least hundreds of people will not come here to consume. Yunnan's tourism is also being ruined little by little in this way.
The lakes in Kunming city will seem nothing special after you visit Lugu Lake.
Feeding the red-billed gulls is really an interesting thing. The scenery is pretty good when I went there for the first time. It would be even better if the water quality of Dianchi Lake was better. The red-billed gulls can only be seen in November, December and January every year. I heard that they come from Siberia to spend the winter.
It was just in time for sunrise, and Dianchi Lake was full of red-billed gulls. I had only fed pigeons in the park before, and this was my first time feeding seagulls. My hands were bitten several times, but I still insisted on feeding them. I was almost done.
From Dianchi Lake, we walked all the way to Haigeng Dam. There were more and more people, and it seemed that there was a dragon boat race.
You must go to the Sea Stem Park. The scenery there is super beautiful. Personally, I think it is more beautiful than the Green Lake Park. The red-billed gulls fly over your head and you can see them up close.
Dianchi Lake is located in the center of Kunming Basin, starting from Chenggong District in the east, ending at the foot of Xishan Mountain in the west, facing Daguan Park in the north, and entering Jinning County in the south. It is all within the territory of Kunming City, the capital of Yunnan Province, and most of the northern half belongs to Kunming City. The northwest part belongs to Xishan District, accounting for about one-third of the area. Dianchi Lake is the largest lake in the southwest and the sixth largest freshwater lake in China.
