The former site of Yunnan Army Military Academy is located on Cuihu West Road in downtown Kunming, close to Cuihu Park and Yunnan University. Tourists usually visit these three places together.
The Military Academy was founded in 1909. When it was first built, it was known as one of the three largest military academies in China. Many outstanding military strategists and revolutionaries, such as Zhu De and Ye Jianying, were students here.
The old building is well preserved. It is an elegant yellow building in the style of the Republic of China. It is very nice to take pictures when the sun is shining.
The interior of the building is open to the public as an exhibition hall, which houses the former classroom (auditorium), armory, and permanent exhibitions showing the history of the Military Academy, the Double Ninth Uprising, and the National Protection Movement.

There is a platform on the south building for review, facing the military training ground. The ground is quite suitable for taking pictures, hahaha, because the three of us were separated because of different speeds while watching the exhibition, and we were bored while waiting for the assembly, so we went to the ground to take some pictures, well, the sun was shining, very nice. Sitting on the stone bench, watching people coming and going on the "drill dam" without fear of strong ultraviolet rays, it was quite leisurely.
Yunnan Military Academy is a famous military academy in modern Chinese history. It was originally a military school established in the Qing Dynasty to train a new army and strengthen border defense. It was founded in 1909. It is known as one of the three major military academies along with Beiyang Military Academy (Tianjin) founded in 1906 and Northeast Military Academy (Fengtian) founded in 1908.
In 1935, the Yunnan Army Academy was reorganized into the "Central Army Officers School Kunming Branch", with Long Yun as director. After the end of the Anti-Japanese War, in September 1945, the Fifth Branch was ordered to close.
The military academy building is fully enclosed on all sides, haha, the students inside can't escape!
The checkpoints on both sides of the inner gate were guarded by sentries wearing the military uniforms of that time.
The tour starts from the first floor and goes counterclockwise. On the second floor, there is a plaque of Qu's Pharmacy, and diagonally opposite is the medical office. The two must be connected.
There is a large section in the exhibition introducing the National Protection Movement!
When I was reading the guide, I was attracted by its imposing gatehouse and the style of the Republic of China. There were two handsome soldiers at the gate, but unfortunately the changing of guard ceremony at 11 o'clock had just ended. The next ones were at 12 o'clock, 2 o'clock and 3 o'clock. The building has been transformed into a museum. When we went upstairs, we happened to catch up with the explanation and listened to it intermittently. If I came out alone, I would definitely take a closer look here. . .
After bringing the whimpering baby out, we walked around the inner playground (the outer playground has been demolished and is now the site of the Provincial Library and Science and Technology Museum). There was also an exhibition of the Expeditionary Force in the room next to the playground.
Later, the kid was attracted by the place where postcards were sent. The tall counter looked like a pawnshop in the past. An old man with glasses patiently introduced the prices and types of postcards behind the counter, and proudly recommended tourists to visit the Expeditionary Force exhibition.
Next to it is a school with the same sense of age - the Military Academy! Many patriots and marshals of New China have come out of here! The most famous ones are General Zhu and Marshal Ye!
The main building's exterior walls are all yellow, with red windows, and the Republic of China style is elegant and appropriate, and it is also a good place to take photos on a sunny day. When I came in, I happened to catch the changing of guard ceremony at the top of the hour. Although it was brief, it was very impressive and made me feel like I had seen it before (there is also such a ceremony at the Chiang Kai-shek Memorial Hall in Taiwan).
The former site of the Yunnan Army Academy is right next to Cuihu Park. It was already closing time when we went there, so we could only take a few random photos through the railings outside the gate.
Yunnan Army Military Academy is located at the west gate of Cuihu Lake. It was founded in 1909 and is a famous military academy in modern Chinese history. It has trained many outstanding military talents. The yellow house of the Military Academy has a sense of age. It not only has the exhibition hall of the Military Academy, but also the memorial hall of the expeditionary army. The memorial hall is not large in area and does not contain much content. It is far from the expeditionary army museum in Tengchong, but it is enough for people to understand this period of history.
Exiting Cuihu Lake West Gate is the former site of the Yunnan Army Academy. It is free to visit and closed on Mondays.
Yunnan Army Military Academy, after 110 years of vicissitudes, is the only modern famous military academy site in China that has been preserved in its original location and state. Founded in 1909, it was originally a military school established by the Qing Dynasty to train a new army and strengthen border defense. It is known as one of the three major military academies along with the Beiyang Military Academy (Tianjin) founded in 1906 and the Northeast Military Academy (Fengtian) founded in 1908. A total of 22 sessions were held, including various training teams and classes held on campus, training about 9,000 officers and sergeants of various types.
Most of the military instructors of the Military Academy were graduates from the Japanese Military Academy. The school's system and style were modeled after the Japanese Army Military Academy. Military training basically adopted the "martial" education content of the Japanese military academy, focusing on military studies and supplemented by general (cultural) studies. The discipline was very strict, with 6 hours of classes and 2 hours of drills every day, gymnastics and running in the morning, self-study in the evening, and emergency assembly training at night. Due to the relatively complete curriculum, strict teaching, and high discipline requirements, the quality of graduates from the Yunnan Army Military Academy was superior to that of other military academies at the time.
Yunnan Army Military Academy is a very standard corner building. Its east, south and north buildings are two-story and about 10 meters high. There is a pavilion on the south building for review, facing the military academy playground. The east building is three stories high and 16 meters high. It was used as the school headquarters office. The four buildings are seamlessly connected into one, also known as the largest quadrangle. The floors are high and transparent, staggered, each 120 meters long, 480 meters in circumference, covering a large area, with arched doorways on all four sides.
Few people like us come here in the morning to see the historical displays inside, so there are relatively fewer tourists in the morning at the Military Academy. It is recommended that friends who like history come here in the morning to learn about the ins and outs of the Whampoa Military Academy in detail.
The former site of Yunnan Army Military Academy was built in the late Qing Dynasty. From 1909 to 1928, it held 19 sessions, with four subjects: engineering, infantry, cavalry, and artillery. It was one of the earliest military academies in China in the late Qing Dynasty and early Republic of my country. In the late Qing Dynasty, it became one of the three major military academies together with Tianjin Beiyang Military Academy and Northeast Fengtian Military Academy. In the Republic of China, it was as famous as Baoding Army Officers School and Central Army Officers School (Huangpu Military Academy), and was called the three major military academies.

In the exhibition room, school mottos, military songs, textbooks, military uniforms, guns and other real objects will take us back to that arduous war years.

This is a must-visit place when you come to Kunming. A hundred years ago, many famous figures came out of here, and you can learn about their achievements here.
The Chinese expedition was a journey of courage and bravery to Kunlun! This period of history is worth remembering.
A very nice attraction, worth a visit, full of history.
The ticket is free and the tour lasts 1 to 2 hours. Nearby are Cuihu Park and Yunnan University, which can be visited together.
The museum is closed on Mondays. There is a changing of guard ceremony every day, as well as free voluntary lectures.
The main body is a bright yellow two-story building, and in front of the building is a simple playground.
There are not many exhibits inside, but I was lucky to catch the free tour and have a vivid history lesson.
The landmark building at the west gate of Cuihu Park. You should pay attention to the time of the changing of guard ceremony at the gate. If you go too late, you won’t be able to visit the museum.
The former site of the Yunnan Army Academy is located on Cuihu West Road in downtown Kunming, close to Cuihu Park and Yunnan University.
Yunnan Army Academy, the cradle of generals in that turbulent era.
A large number of military talents were trained, many of whom played a role in the War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression.
It’s a very small place, and the yellow walls are perfect for taking photos and checking in in the sun, without the need to add any filters.
Here we must give a shout-out to General Cai E
It is also a place that is not inferior to the Whampoa Military Academy
I had a lot of fun playing in the playground, and tried taking panoramic photos for the first time~
You can walk to it from the west gate or north gate of Cuihu Lake. There are drill grounds and museums inside that are free to visit. The museum is closed on Mondays.
I happened to meet a tour group and listened to the guide's explanation. I learned that the history of the Military Academy is longer than that of the Whampoa Military Academy, and more than 60% of the teachers of the Whampoa Military Academy came from here. It plays an important role in China's modern history. It is recommended to spend 1 to 2 hours at the Military Academy.
Now it is a museum, and the opening hours are the same as most museums, from 9:00 to 17:00 every Tuesday to Sunday. It was already 18:00 when we arrived, so we could only take a look outside, and we didn't find time to return here in the next few days to see the internal architecture and exhibitions.
It is full of historical features and houses a Chinese Expeditionary Force Memorial Hall, which contains historical figures from the Military Academy to the history of the Expeditionary Force in Yunnan, and is rich in knowledge and historical and cultural features.
Tickets are free, and there are free guides at fixed times. It is a science and education museum. There is a large playground at the entrance. The main building is light yellow and has a sense of history. There are exhibitions inside to introduce the history of the Military Academy and the life training of military students.
I walked over to Green Lake Park after visiting it, but it was closed on Mondays, what a pity. I could only look around from the outside.
Red tourist attractions, free to visit, patriotic education is worth going
It's very ordinary, but since it's free, you can go and have a look
The military academy is open to the public free of charge, and there is a guard changing ceremony at the main entrance every hour.
There will be special people giving tours at the former military academy site at fixed times, but unfortunately we didn't make it in time.
The playground inside is quite large, you can go in and have a look for free.
The building has distinctive features and the colors are also very attractive.
You can go in directly after arriving, turn right and go up to the second floor, where there are cultural relics and historical materials (please do not take photos) for reference. It is relatively detailed and recommended to spend an hour and a half to get a simple understanding of the history of the time. After the tour, Yunnan University is nearby and you can visit together.
A place where many generals came from. Look at their influence in events such as the Xinhai Revolution and the National Protection War, get familiar with the history of the expeditionary army, remember history, and be very moved
That was an era when heroes made great achievements and martyrs shed their blood. The generations of heroes and martyrs hung on the walls made people deeply feel how difficult it was for the country and nation to reach where it is today, and their hearts were filled with emotions.
I just happened to meet new soldiers joining the army. If you have revolutionary sentiments, you must come here to have a look. When I go to a city, I will habitually visit the local Anti-Japanese War Memorial Museum, and I always have a different feeling every time.
If you are interested in the history of the battle, you can go and have a look. It is free to visit and is right next to Cuihu Park.
There is no entrance fee to the Military Academy. There are professional guides who introduce relevant historical events in Yunnan. I was lucky enough to meet a volunteer guide from the Yunnan History Research Institute. Her introduction was passionate and restored history, which made people think deeply and moved. There is also a changing of guard ceremony here regularly.
The building surrounded by yellow walls is the Military Academy, the first attraction. This century-old military academy, the cradle of generals, is not very big, but the building is quite unique and has a long history. It is very suitable for those who like military skills. The playground inside has been preserved in its original appearance. I was a little surprised and a little relieved when I saw it. There are many equipment used for training in the yard, several exhibition halls, and various theme exhibitions.
This is a military academy with a great reputation in modern Chinese history. It still maintains its original appearance. The two colleagues on duty at the door stayed at their posts regardless of wind and rain until the shift change. The graduation certificates of the students are displayed inside the Army Military Academy, and the former dormitories are restored. The past and present of the Yunnan Army Military Academy are presented in the form of pictures and texts. For friends who love history, this place is worth studying. My friend has come here many times and is very interested every time.
A century-old military academy, the cradle of generals, looking for memories of the Chinese Expeditionary Force!
The building at the old site is currently well preserved. It is an elegant yellow building in the style of the Republic of China, and it is very beautiful.
Because it was too late, we couldn't go in to visit. The surroundings were quiet, and under the dim light, there was also a heavy and heroic atmosphere.
The former campus has become a place for visits. There is a playground in the middle of the enclosed houses. I really like the buildings here. Several trees are as tall as the houses. The emerald green trees and bright yellow walls are particularly eye-catching.
The only difficult thing to do is to control anger. To be sincere is to not lie. After going through the military academy, it is hard to calm down. After going through so many ups and downs, we have today's peaceful era. Don't forget your original intention and keep moving forward.
Peaceful times are rare, and if we don’t cherish them, we will be letting down the sacrifices of the martyrs.
A century of vicissitudes. Echoes of war. Unfortunately, some clubs were closed on Monday!
Next to Cuihu Lake, it is very close to the south gate of Yunnan University. It is a military academy composed of buildings in a circle, similar to a quadrangle. The grass in the middle is naturally the training ground.
It's more informative than I thought. There are exhibitions all around the second floor, showing the situation of the entire college at that time and the alumni, etc. There are also videos to watch. It turns out to be a history museum, haha, it's worth a visit!
This is the store with the least negative reviews on China-TravelNote, and it didn't disappoint me. The store is small, the second floor has a low ceiling, and the low tables and stools are very Japanese style. Manna Chicken, my son's favorite. This is shredded potato soup, which was originally ordered to cater to my son's taste, but as soon as it was served, we asked the waiter to take it away. How should I put it, we can't appreciate the taste, for example, it's like the smell of the grassland in summer, you can understand it yourself. In general, Manna is worth recommending.
It has to be said that Yunnan has done a good job in tourism. Many historical sites can be seen in the streets and alleys of Kunming. This Yunnan Army Military Academy does not require a ticket to enter. At the door, a kind tour guide stopped us and prepared to explain to us. We didn't take it seriously, thinking that we would have to pay again. Seeing this, she quickly explained that it was free. Generally, if there are many people in a group, she will explain for them. So we followed the guide's footsteps and walked into the school. .
The school is very large, with a training ground that is as big as two football fields. According to the tour guide, this is a streamlined venue. The entire school exhibition hall has two floors, which display the deeds of various founders and famous alumni since its opening, as well as some real scenes of exercises and equipment at that time to enhance the military strength of the war of resistance.
It is next to Green Lake Park and can be visited together with Green Lake Park
Military Academy, Yunnan University, Green Lake, one street
This place is as famous as the Huangpu Military Academy. The playground has also experienced vicissitudes and suffered from wind and rain for many years. Thinking back to the military academy soldiers who trained on this playground in the past, now the grass is dry and there is not much left.
Along the playground are yellow Republican-era buildings with arches.
There is an expeditionary force themed exhibition here, which tells the story of the Chinese expeditionary force fighting against Japan together with the Allies in Burma and India during the War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression. At that time, Yunnan was the domestic base of the expeditionary force.
At the door, soldiers wearing the uniforms of military academy officers and soldiers from a hundred years ago were standing guard.
If you watch the Military Academy carefully, it will take you at least 3 hours to finish. Due to time constraints, I could only take a quick look.
Although the overall building is not big, it is very educational. I highly recommend it. The changing of the guard ceremony is very nostalgic and the explanation is very passionate. The changing of the guard ceremony and the explanation time are on the picture.
The Military Academy is free to visit, but you need to go through security. It is closed on Mondays. We arrived at around 9 o'clock and happened to see the soldiers changing guards, which took about three minutes. It was very ceremonial. There are volunteer guides and an exhibition hall of the Chinese Expeditionary Force. It is very necessary to understand that period of history. The exhibition hall is very long in a seemingly small place, with rich content and pictures.
Visiting the Army Academy also reviewed the military history from the late Qing Dynasty to the Republic of China, but I didn't visit for long.
You must visit Commander-in-Chief Zhu's school, free admission
It is worth a visit, and the tickets are free. You can also see the test papers and graduation certificates of the students of the Military Academy.
The main building of the existing site is a large-scale beige corner building in the style of the Republic of China. The east-west and north-south buildings are symmetrically connected to form a rectangular courtyard. The courtyard has become a playground, and every day tourists unconsciously do morning exercises following the broadcast. The interior of the building is now open to the public as an exhibition hall, with large classrooms, weapons depots, and permanent exhibitions showing the history of the Military Academy, the 99 Uprising, and the National Protection Movement.
It’s free. Personal belongings must go through security check when entering. Lighters are not allowed in. Of course, you can get them back when you leave.
This is the earliest predecessor of the military academy. Visiting here is very insightful and worth learning. Through pictures and texts, we can have a clearer understanding of the predecessor of China’s military academies and some stories. This place is smaller than the original site, but it has basically maintained its original appearance. It is very close to Cuihu Lake and can be reached across the road, so it is relatively convenient!

Very good tourist attraction, worth a visit, it seems that no tickets are required, great. The Expeditionary Force Museum is also at the back, a highly recommended place.
It is just opposite Yunnan University, a small circle. Those who are interested in history can take a look, and those who are not interested can also take photos.
Coming out of Cuihu Park and crossing the road, you will directly enter the former site of the Yunnan Army Academy.
The building of the Military Academy is very beautiful, with a towering gatehouse, mainly in yellow and red, and surrounded by rich green plants. After entering the main gate, you will directly enter the training ground, which is a large playground. There are old training equipment around the training ground, such as pommel horses, parallel bars, ladders, diving platforms, etc.
The old classrooms and foyers have basically been converted into exhibition halls and museums, with fixed opening and explanation times. You can pay attention to the notices at the door.
I stood in front of the Military Academy and watched the changing of guard ceremony. When seven soldiers in the uniforms of the Republic of China walked past me in an orderly formation, a sense of respect came up unconsciously.
My friend said that every time he went to the Military Academy, he was not excited because he saw many stories of celebrities, but was more afraid of war and grateful for his current life.
The Military Academy has special military officers explaining history every day.
Six free lectures are offered every day, starting at 9:30, 10:30, 11:30, 13:30, 14:30 and 15:30.
I still remember the officer's passionate tone and patriotic feelings during the lecture. The half-hour lecture was wonderful and left me wanting more.
One of the most outstanding military schools in modern Chinese history.
History is frozen here, but what cannot be washed away by the vicissitudes of life is a sense of heaviness.
Leaving Cuihu Park, we came to the nearby Yunnan Army Academy. No tickets are required here, but security checks are required. If you go to Kunming, the Army Academy is definitely worth a visit.
2017-12-2
After watching the seagulls at Cuihu Park, I went to the nearby site of the Military Academy. There were many tourists, mostly because there was no ticket. The building at the site is well preserved. It is an elegant yellow building in the style of the Republic of China! I think Cuihu Park, Yunnan University, and the Military Academy are worth visiting together!
It is earlier than the Whampoa Military Academy in Guangzhou. It is very helpful for understanding the history of the late Qing Dynasty and the early Republic of China and the civil war. The later history of the War of Resistance against Japan is not very true. It is the main battlefield of the National Army and is worth a visit.
Opposite Cuihu Park, there is a large courtyard with an exhibition hall.
