Guandu Ancient Town is located in the southeast suburbs of Kunming. In fact, it is just across the street from the new building of Yunnan Provincial Museum. Guandu Ancient Town is an AAAA scenic spot, but it is free.

However, when it comes to ancient towns, everyone thinks they are a nightmare for tourist attractions. Indeed, they are now very commercialized. When we walked on the main road of the ancient town, we actually flashed back to the scene when we walked in the ancient town of Dali. Well, it is not surprising that we have the same roots and the same origin. We decided to go there for the several ancient temples in the ancient town, just to see the historical marks that have been protected and not destroyed (but they have all been renovated).

The most worth seeing place in the ancient town is Miaozhan Temple, the "first of the six temples" in Guandu, and the Vajra Throne Pagoda in front of Miaozhan Temple.

We walked around the tower, but the sunlight was too glaring, so we mainly looked at the side facing away from the sun, hahahaha.

There are many ancient towns now. Guandu Ancient Town is not very special as a whole. There are several temples and some ancient building pedestrian streets. But some of its components are quite distinctive: the most recommended one should be the Vajra Throne Pagoda, which is also ranked among the top in China; there is also a pair of twin towers of Miaozhan Temple built in the Yuan Dynasty; the Guandu Shaolin Temple, which was "incorporated" by the Songshan Shaolin Temple, is also very distinctive. Influenced by this, many foreign young people practicing martial arts can be seen in this temple and other surrounding temples. Everyone is wearing a gray cloth cassock, Feiyue sneakers, and some people wear a red armband on their left arm that means protecting the peace of the ancient town. It's really fun. After checking back, I found that this is also a branch of the Shaolin Temple's Wushu Vocational and Technical School. In addition, there is a Yunzi Museum, but it was closed when I came. Yunzi is also a very influential chess in the domestic and foreign chess circles. It is named because it is produced with jade from Yunnan. The ancient town is not far from the Yunnan Provincial Museum and Haigeng Park, so you can consider playing together.

After all, it is an ancient town, so it still has some feeling, but the atmosphere is not strong enough. There are few things to play, but many snacks. In the night market, there is also a bar street, which has many delicious foods, fried potatoes, glasses baba, and the big cake in the picture, which seems to be called baba, and snail meat, which is great. I recommend a restaurant, very authentic Burmese and Dai cuisine. I also saw many friends recommend it on Xiaohongshu. It is really delicious. A big bowl, a portion of golden oil noodles, a portion of banana-flavored hand-shaking baba, and a portion of pau ruda are only 35. Half a day is enough for the tour.

During dinner time, I wandered around Guandu Ancient Town. To be honest, this ancient town is not well managed, and the sanitation is not ideal. Compared with other ancient towns, it is not very innovative. I don’t know how this “intangible cultural heritage” was successfully applied for. However, a group of students wearing Hanfu and shooting a micro-film in front of the Jingang Pagoda attracted a lot of attention. I ate something at a snack bar that was on CCTV, and that was the end of my trip to the ancient town.

Although ancient towns all over the country are similar, this place still has local characteristics, especially the numerous temples, including five mountains, six temples, seven pavilions and eight temples, which have a long history. Several Buddhist temples, Wenwu Temple, and the Vajra Pagoda on the square all have their own history and stories, and it is quite interesting to take a walk around.

The Guandu Ancient Town, diagonally opposite the Provincial Museum, is adjacent to the Baoxiang River. The short pedestrian street has rich cultural landscapes. The most famous one is the so-called "Five Mountains, Six Temples, Seven Pavilions and Eight Temples" in the Tang, Song, Yuan, Ming and Qing dynasties. Even earlier, during the Nanzhao Dali Kingdom period, it was a large market town and transportation hub around Dianchi Lake.

If you are a history and culture enthusiast and come to Kunming for a tour, you must not miss the Guandu Ancient Town located in the southeast suburbs of the city.

Guandu Ancient Town has many cultural relics and rich cultural landscapes. In an area of less than 1.5 square kilometers, there are many landscapes such as five mountains, six temples, seven pavilions, and eight temples from the Tang, Song, Yuan, Ming, and Qing dynasties. Guandu Ancient Town is famous for its profound history and culture. Although the historical and cultural relics have been damaged, important historical and cultural relics have been preserved. In the Tang and Song Dynasties, it was already a large market town on the east Kun shore of Dianchi Lake. In the Yuan Dynasty, it was established as a county at the same time as Kunming. In the Ming and Qing Dynasties, it had become a town with developed commerce and handicrafts. In the past, Guandu was crowded with merchants, with high towers shining, five mountains, six temples, seven pavilions, eight temples and many cultural landscapes. Many cultural architectural sites are still preserved. As an ancient town with a long history, Guandu was once an ancient ferry port famous in central Yunnan and one of the famous historical and cultural cities and ancient towns in Kunming.

This place has become a place for citizens to relax and unwind. Every day, many middle-aged and elderly people come here to play the piano, sing, play chess, and play cards, while more people just sit and watch.

In addition to seeing various cultural landscapes, you can't miss the food when you arrive at Guandu Ancient Town. There are many snacks here, which is a paradise for foodies. During holidays and other crowded times, there will be long queues at several stores in Zhuangyuan Street. Guandu rice noodles, Guandu baba, and Guandu bait are called the "three treasures" and you must try them.

There were only two simple tasks planned for the day, Guandu Ancient Town and Yunnan Provincial Museum. I stayed in bed for a while longer in the morning, and it was almost ten o'clock when I got up, washed, checked out, and stored my luggage. According to the strategy I made the day before, I took my camera, took the bus, and traveled for more than an hour to Guandu Ancient Town in the southeast suburbs of Kunming. The moment I saw the archway, I regretted getting up late. In other people's travel notes, Guandu is not a strongly recommended attraction. It seems to me that there is a call from somewhere. I walked through the crowded crowd, stood quietly in the square, and looked up at the Vajra Tower. I felt like traveling through time and space. The people who used to be there had long disappeared, and only these seemingly lifeless buildings were whispering the history that happened here. In the long river of history, how short and insignificant people are in it.

I wandered around the ancient town, bought a coat with ethnic style, visited several craft shops, tasted many delicacies, such as roasted rice cakes, baba, and rose pie from Sister Lotus, and asked passers-by to take my first photo since coming to Yunnan. When I walked out of the ancient town, it was already past five o'clock, so I didn't have enough time to visit the museum, so I had to leave it for next time.

Introduction to Guandu Ancient Town:

Guandu Town, with a long history, is one of the famous historical and cultural ancient towns in Kunming. Its main gate (big memorial archway) is located 8 kilometers southeast of Kunming, on the north bank of Dianchi Lake and the lower reaches of Baoxiang River, covering an area of 17 square kilometers. Guandu was once an ancient ferry well-known in central Yunnan. It was a large market town on the east bank of Dianchi Lake during the Tang and Song Dynasties. It was established as a county at the same time as Kunming in the Yuan Dynasty. It had become a town with developed commerce and handicrafts in the Ming and Qing Dynasties. In the past, Guandu was crowded with merchants and high towers. Today, there are many cultural relics in the ancient town. Many landscapes such as the Five Mountains, Six Temples, Seven Pavilions, and Eight Temples from the Tang, Song, Yuan, Ming, and Qing Dynasties still retain architectural ruins. The courtyard walls in the ancient town, which were made of snail shells and clay, still stand tall in the wind and rain. It is rare that the century-old earthen houses still exist.

The whole street is full of shops, most of which sell flower cakes and silverware.

I came to Yunnan in September last year, but missed Dianchi Lake because I was not familiar with the road. This time I got the chance to make up for it. I had plenty of time in the afternoon, so I took a taxi from Mingchun Hotel to Dianchi Lake, which took about 40 minutes. I finally saw the red-billed seagulls.

The ancient town is very ordinary, even more ordinary than the ancient town of Dali.

By Want to travel around the world |

In fact, the best scenery of this ancient town is not the town itself, but the two temples in it.

Guandu, located in the southern suburbs of Kunming, is a famous historical and cultural ancient town in Yunnan, but it has never been popular. Whether it is the photos taken by friends when they visited or when we came here by ourselves, the flow of people here is not large, which is in sharp contrast to the popular itineraries in places like Lijiang or Dali. They are both ancient towns but have different fates, haha

Guandu Ancient Town is not large and can be fully explored in an hour.

The ancient town has convenient transportation. Take bus No. 31 from Kunming Station and go directly to [Guandu Ancient Town] Station. After getting off the bus, cross the road to reach the entrance.

The ancient town is very clean. This is my first impression of it. The shops on the entire street are neatly arranged and there is no obvious garbage on the ground. This is much better than many ancient towns.

The night view at night is also pretty good, you can take a look

The original function of Guandu Ancient Town was to serve as a palace for the princes and nobles of Dali and Nanzhao when they visited Erhai Lake, so its construction began as early as the beginning of the Tang Dynasty.

There are many historical buildings in Guandu Ancient Town, but the most famous, eye-catching and centrally located one is the national key cultural relic [Vajra Throne Pagoda], which is the enclosed square pagoda at the most central intersection of the entire Guandu Ancient Town.

If you have watched "Demi-Gods and Semi-Devils", you will definitely have an impression of the chessboard outside Wuyazi Cave. In ancient times, great men used the world as a chessboard and thousands of people as chess pieces to plan and win the world.

There is also a huge chessboard in Guandu Ancient Town. Of course, it is not the Wuyazi chessboard! It is the former site of Yunnan Go Factory. When you enter the door, you will see a chessboard inlaid with black and white pieces.

When you come to Guandu Ancient Town, in addition to admiring the ancient temples and cultural landscapes, an important purpose is to eat snacks. There are many delicacies in the ancient town, so eat as you go.

By Two flowers |

Actually, I don't have a good impression of the ancient town because it is too commercialized. But there is a Go museum here, and the Go inside is really exquisite.

By He Lin |

It feels a bit like a newly built commercial ancient town, which doesn't feel very good. The most worthwhile thing is to see the Dian Opera. At the end of the ancient town, in the pavilions on both sides, two teams of people were performing. They seemed to be amateurs in the area, which was very lively!

By Niyang |

The ancient town has a strong commercial atmosphere as always. The so-called old buildings on both sides of the street are full of shops, handicrafts, clothing stores, local specialty stores, etc. They are all the same and noisy.

In addition to the commercial street, the old street of the ancient town also has a food culture street. I wonder if it was rebuilt from the old houses of the nobles in the past. Every restaurant is so antique and luxurious. Except for the facade and comfortable environment, the so-called Internet celebrity hotels (restaurants) here are not good enough. Whether it is the dishes or the drinks, they have neither characteristics nor taste, and there is no cost-effectiveness.

Originally, it was an ancient town that Yunnan left to the world, a place worth remembering for future generations, but under the endless flooding of commerce, it has lost its authentic flavor. It is better not to come.

By Alpine potatoes |

Guandu Ancient Town has a long history. There are commercial streets and historical relics in the town: temples and pagodas, etc.

The ancient town is very lively. In the pavilion, there are Bai ethnic group grandmas playing the piano, singing, resting and chatting. It is very lifelike.

Walking in the commercial street of the ancient town, the sugar-blowing figurines attracted our attention.

By Fatty Blue |

Guandu Ancient Town is a commercial street relatively close to the city center, with many people coming and going. In addition to tourists, it is actually also a convenient park. Many locals come to Guandu Ancient Town to burn incense and pray for peace and prosperity.

By A5DU93 |

Guandu Ancient Town is relatively large, with many delicious foods and convenient transportation.

By orchid |

Guandu Ancient Town is similar to Shanghai Yuyuan, Chengdu Jinli, and Jinan Furong Lane. There are historical relics, folk snacks, and local specialties. There are flower cakes, go, and snowflake silver. Guandu Ancient Town has a relatively concentrated number of cultural relics and historical and cultural values. Let me mention two: the Tuzhu Temple from the Tang Dynasty and the Jingang Pagoda from the Yuan Dynasty.

By The Sky on the Other Shore |

Guandu Ancient Town is located in Guandu District, Kunming City, about ten kilometers away from the city center. It is a famous historical and cultural town and one of the birthplaces of ancient Dian culture. During the Nanzhao Dali Kingdom period, Guandu was already a large market town and transportation hub on the northeast bank of Dianchi Lake.

It was raining all the time, so I just walked around, but didn't see anything. The young lady singing on the ancient stage was quite romantic, but I couldn't see anything in the rain and with an umbrella... Many shops were closed, which was a bit disappointing. There's nothing fun to do in Guandu Ancient Town.

By caicai |

It is called an ancient town, but there are many temples and pagodas. Although it was raining, there were still many grandpas and grandmas singing and performing in the pavilion, which was a lively scene. Because there are many people coming and going in the ancient town, you must pay attention to your personal belongings, mobile phones, wallets, etc. My friend lost his mobile phone here. Later, I heard from the clerk in the clothing store that there are many thieves here, and they are often stolen. However, they dare not expose them for fear of retaliation, so you must be careful!!!

By Xiaobei loves traveling |

It is a relatively mature commercial ancient town, but there are really a lot of food, all kinds of food. The Dibei Chunman Hotel where I stayed is nearby, very convenient

Guandu Ancient Town has many cultural relics and rich cultural landscapes.

By Sligo's Old Dreams |

The location is very good, not far from the museum, the features are average, and the commercialization is a bit serious

By Change |

Because Guandu Ancient Town is near where we live, we went for a walk. No tickets are required. We mainly looked at the ancient buildings. As soon as we entered, we could find a strong commercial atmosphere. Like other tourist attractions, there are small stalls on both sides. There is a snack street and a bar street, which is convenient for eating. It is not expensive, at least much cheaper than Xishan. There is a free audio guide on Leyoubao, so I listened to the audio guide on my phone while visiting. Otherwise, I would not feel it at all when I saw it. I just visited it. The pagoda inside is quite distinctive. We went there late, and the temples were closed. We did not go in to see it. There was a smell of urine on the small bridge and flowing water. I don’t know which uneducated tourist did this! In summary, because there is no entrance fee, the food is cheap, and the architecture is distinctive, I recommend a visit.

By Sudden in heart |

It's a very small place, very commercialized, and not very hygienic. There are many old men selling incense in front of the temple who always pester people to buy incense and go to the temple to burn incense. This is a particularly bad place. The fried snails in many restaurants look delicious, but they are not very delicious, and they are not cleaned and are full of sand.

By Cindy |

It is called an ancient town, but it is all commercialized. There are not many places to take photos. I feel that it is not as beautiful as the Kongsheng Mountain in Suixi, Zhanjiang, Guangdong. You can see the architectural scenery and feel the traditional culture during the day, and see the night view at night!

By The Mountain is Silent |

Guandu Ancient Town is located in the southeastern suburb of Kunming City. It was called "Wodong" in ancient times. It has a long history and is an important part of Kunming's historical and cultural protection. The ancient town was built in the Tang Dynasty and was once one of the important ferry crossings in central Yunnan. Because of its convenient transportation, it became a large market town on the east bank of Dianchi Lake in the Tang and Song Dynasties. It was established as a county in the Yuan Dynasty. It has developed into a town with developed commerce and handicrafts in the Ming and Qing Dynasties. In ancient times, Guandu was not only crowded with merchants and prosperous trade, but also had beautiful scenery. It was a place where the princes and nobles of Nanzhao and Dali Kingdom, celebrities and scholars came to enjoy the spring scenery and discuss the past and the present.

Although the ancient town has gone through many vicissitudes of life, it still retains many historical sites from past dynasties, such as the Vajra Pagoda, Confucius Building, Tuzhu Temple, and Fading Temple. Together with many earthen houses with Yunnan characteristics, they form a very distinctive architectural complex. While focusing on protecting the scenic spots and historical sites, Kunming City is actively developing tourism and has developed it into a national AAAA-level scenic ancient town that integrates food, commerce, folk customs, and culture, where "there is something to eat, something to buy, something to play, and something to see."

By China-TravelNote users |

I went there early in the morning, and it felt a bit empty when I saw the entrance was being renovated. When I walked in, I saw a full modern atmosphere. Is the ancient town just a place name? Most of the shops inside can be found everywhere. Why bother to come here to shop and exercise?

By Camellia tea fragrance |

The ancient towns all have the same flavor. The main reason I came to Guandu Ancient Town is for the Guandu Baba. People say that the Guandu Baba in Guandu Ancient Town is the most authentic, and I came here because of its reputation. I haven't compared it with other baba, so I think it's pretty good.

By bubble gum |

My phone was stolen within a few minutes of entering this door. The thieves in Guandu are too rampant. Friends who are going there must be careful.

By Spirited Away |

One day, the quaint commercial street, the commercial atmosphere covered the original charm of the ancient town. There is no ticket. It is a good place for people around to take a walk after dinner. There are many temples inside, mostly for praying! The snacks around are mainly the glasses baba recommended by Fengfeng, which is a big pancake, nothing special! There is also Ruili Golden Pot Stickers, which tastes good and has a large portion. One person can't finish it. The local pounded chicken feet tasted very good and unforgettable! There are many other special foods! There are food streets, commercial streets, ancient temples, and bar streets! It's still very good to wander around alone!

By Maple Night |

Guandu Ancient Town is very small, and many shops sell snowflake silver bracelets. I bought a silver bracelet for my grandma and left. Just stroll around.

By Alone with the wind |

Hundreds of people gathered in a small square around the Vajra Pagoda, but they were divided into several groups. Some were singing, some were dancing, some were doing modern dance, some were doing square dance... Each group of people turned up the volume of their speakers to the maximum. I believe everyone can imagine the scene - the Shaolin Temple and the Vajra Pagoda are right next to them. Not to mention that the Buddha doesn't care, even the residents can't stand it.

I was about to collapse and quickly ran back to the inn.

By Qianxi chestnut |

It's free to enter, but there are only two streets. I came here to see it on my way to Yunnan Provincial Museum. The eye-catching part is nice, but the rest is just average.

Guandu Ancient Town is only half an hour away from the city by bus. There are actually quite a lot of ancient sites, such as temples, ancient pagodas, etc. However, the whole ancient town is like a shopping street, selling similar tourist souvenirs and snacks, without any characteristics. Moreover, the whole ancient town is noisy with hawkers. Even if you enter the temple, you can hear the hawkers outside the door. It doesn't feel quiet at all.

Guandu Ancient Town is very famous for its glasses baba. The locals said the sesame flavored ones are delicious. We bought two of each and brought them back to Shijiazhuang.

The reason why Guandu Ancient Town is placed at the end of the third day is because Sister Wei said that after a day of driving, we should go to Guandu Ancient Town at night because there are many snacks there. After hearing that, of course my eyes lit up and I agreed with both hands and feet. We took a car and then drove back. During the free time on the car, I Baidu searched for famous snacks and shops in Guandu Ancient Town and saved them directly on my mobile phone. Finally, we arrived at Guandu Ancient Town. As soon as we got off the car, we hurriedly strolled around with Sister Wei before it got dark. Sister Wei said again, let's stroll first, and then eat delicious food after the stroll. Well, although I was unwilling, when we go out, one person has to have the final say. If two people want to have the final say, it will definitely be unpleasant. So we strolled and strolled. Why did it feel like time was passing so slowly? Besides the people selling things, there were also people selling things. It was really boring. We finally finished walking around Guandu Ancient Town. It was more like a race walk than a walk. The two of us strode forward in super harmonious steps. We were both hungry at this time. After all, we are not Wang Jinxi or Ma Yongshun. We still have to rely on food to push us forward. First, we prepared to eat baba, glasses baba. In Wei and I's dictionary, baba is the baba we poop after eating (Wei: I don't have the same idea as you, I know that baba in the South is food, hum!). I didn't expect that baba can be eaten in Kunming, but it's not pooped, it's a kind of stuffed pancake. We searched and searched, and used Dianping and Baidu Maps to finally find Glasses baba after several detours. When we found it, Wei and I basically said fuck in unison! For some reason, Glasses Baba was closed. We were so hungry that we almost looked like human. How could we bear such a big blow? Wei complained at that time. I saw that the situation was not right, so I quickly found the next more famous restaurant: Liuhuan Flavor Farmhouse Snacks. I moved quickly and finally got there. Then I ordered all the delicious snacks mentioned on the Internet one by one. Oh my God, a big table of snacks, a total of twelve, spent a total of 58 yuan. Oh my god, let’s not talk about whether the food is delicious or not, it’s really cheap. So don’t pretend to be innocent, let’s hurry up. In the end, Wei and I were so full that we didn’t finish all the food we ordered. Don’t waste it. Pack it up and take it home to eat tomorrow!

Guandu Town is one of Kunming's famous historical and cultural ancient towns. It was already a market town with developed commerce and handicrafts during the Ming and Qing Dynasties.

The most important purpose of coming here is to eat snacks. There is a snack street here.

My favorite place in Yunnan, the ancient town is not big, but it is very solemn, the Vajra Pagoda

The ancient town is nice, with a small park, but it is full of commercial atmosphere.

That place is really just average, only go there when you have time

It has too much commercial flavor and feels messy. It's also nice to listen to the uncles and aunts singing in the corridor.

Guandu Ancient Town is free of charge. It is not very big, just some antique buildings. You can visit it in one day. There is a shopping street inside, and there is a Shaolin Temple inside. There are many stalls selling clothes and snacks in front of the Shaolin Temple after 19:00 in the evening. It is the favorite place for women! The food is not expensive!

There are more locals, and the food is almost the same. There is a baba shop that is run by a family. It is worth a try, especially their rose sauce is only 15 yuan a bottle! There are many handicrafts! The ancient tower and ancient temple are worth understanding and feeling!

Just stroll around, it's not worth going there specifically. The new Yunnan Provincial Museum is nearby, so you can consider sightseeing there.

It still has a strong historical flavor, but it's a bit messy. There is a hostel called Jianglu Cultural and Beautiful Inn nearby, which is the best youth hostel I have ever stayed in. It is very literary and comfortable. It is in a high-end villa area, and the two handsome bosses are also very awesome.

There are many delicious foods in Guandu Ancient Town and it is very large. Most of the delicious foods are in remote streets. If you walk straight to the side of Miaozhan Temple, you can see a small street with many delicious foods such as Shiping tofu, tofu rice noodles, jelly, fried potatoes, cross-bridge rice noodles, and freshly made flower cakes.

If you go to Guandu Ancient Town, you must try the eye baba, it is really good. The flower bean paste tastes delicious.
