From a distance, a group of people hold up gull food, look up at the sky, and rub their arms upwards with expectation as if waiting for the red-billed gulls to come.

There were many locals on the dam who were paying to take photos (feeding red-billed gulls for close-up) and yelled back and forth. They would also tell us that the red-billed gulls would not come if we fed them like that. During the nearly one hour we stayed there, at least 5-6 locals came to ask about it. Later, I found out that their secret to taking photos was to either replace the special gull food (tastier than bread) or use a unique call (which can't be learned in a short time) to attract the red-billed gulls to feed, and then take the opportunity to capture the photo, with a high success rate. However, we didn't feel unwelcome when we fed them bread, so we didn't envy them, hahaha.

Friendly reminder, the wind here is really strong... It blows 360 degrees, making your hair tangled and leaving you with no face at all. It's also very sunny, so start with SPF50.

The price of gull food should be the same throughout the city, and it is the same as a few years ago. I suddenly feel it is very conscientious. Hahaha, 10 yuan a bag is enough.

Exit Haigeng Park, pass the lower station of Dianchi Cableway, turn north to the scenic road on Haigeng Dam, which runs from north to south. In fact, I have always wanted to go to Dianchi Lake because I wanted to see the elf of Dianchi Lake - the red-billed gull.

Before I went there, I had been following the Internet to see if the red-billed gulls would fly over this year, but there was no news. Fortunately, I had the chance to see them when they really arrived. According to the locals, these little guys had only been here for less than a week. It was pleasant and relaxing to stroll along the Haigeng Dam.

There were many tourists who fed the red-billed gulls with bread, and they were all very well behaved. These little guys were not afraid of people and I quickly took a few pictures with my camera.

The locals say that there are not many red-billed gulls flying here now, but I think it is already very beautiful.

The hotel is right next to the Haigeng Dam. You can see Dianchi Lake just across the road. At 10 a.m., thousands of red-billed gulls have gathered here. You can see red-billed gulls from November to February every year.

Usually there are fewer tourists in the morning, and it is crowded in the afternoon - unfortunately we were there during the Spring Festival, and when we arrived at 10 o'clock, the red-billed gulls had already eaten their fill.

Once, our record was that two people fed 80 yuan worth of bird food in one morning and still didn't want to leave.

As a result, we didn’t finish feeding the birds that day. There were more people than birds at the scene... We were even hit by bird droppings...

I noticed the people who made money by taking photos for others in the scenic area. They asked us to hold the long and thin bread and take photos for us, and imitated the bird calls: Oh oh oh. It really worked, and they were also very good at taking photos. 20 yuan/person, basically one or two Polaroids. We wanted to get an electronic version, so we gave her an SD card and used her SLR to take photos. After they took the photos, they immediately went to a small printing shop nearby to print them. I guess they were hired by the printing shop owner. They didn't want to use our camera to take photos for us, fearing that the owner would see it. Make some extra money.

After taking the photos, be sure to clean your clothes, because if you are unlucky, they may be stained with bird shit!

At the end of March, the red-billed seagulls had not yet flown away, and many people were feeding the seagulls. Especially in the morning. In fact, there are the most seagulls in the morning, so it is recommended that the first stop in the morning is to feed the seagulls on the dam. The light is good and there are many seagulls. In the afternoon, it is too sunny and the seagulls all roost in the water. The seagull food bought by the dam costs 10 yuan per bag. The Dianchi Haigeng Dam is located in the northeast of Dianchi Lake. The northwest of Dianchi Lake is the Xishan Scenic Area. It is one of the three major seagull feeding resorts in Kunming, the other two being Haigeng Park and Cuihu Park.

The background was a messy crowd. I didn't feel the nature surrounded by birds, and I didn't take ideal photos. At 12:30, we ended our stay at Haigeng Dam and headed to Kunming Botanical Garden at the request of our children. Tips: Drivers who drive to Haigeng Dam can navigate to Hongta Group Sports Center (right next to the dam), where there are many parking spaces and it is open to the public.
