Stone Forest Scenic Area

After a day of fun in Shilin, I would like to share some experiences with friends who are traveling independently:

⭐The current ticket price for Stone Forest is 130, and it is sold for 104 on Yunnan Travel (electronic ticket, only one ticket can be purchased per mobile phone)

⭐The scenic area eco-friendly bus is 25 yuan, which is recommended. It is not only for the 6 kilometers to and from the entrance, but also for the inner ring line in the scenic area, saving time and effort. The ticket is also purchased at the machine in the visitor center, and the pattern on the ticket is the same as the ticket.

⭐If you plan to play for half a day, it is recommended to enter the park after lunch and play in the afternoon. ❗The scenic area was crowded in the morning (Figure 11), and this is still the off-season. It was estimated that at least 80% of the people were reduced in the afternoon (Figure 12), because most of the tour groups left and went to Jiuxiang in the afternoon.

⭐If you plan to play for a whole day, you can go to the museum in the morning, then have something to eat, and then play in the Big and Small Stone Forests at noon and in the afternoon.

⭐The least crowded time period at the "Stone Forest" inscription square is from 12:00 to 2:00. Of course, there are also fewer people in the early and late hours.

⭐Time. Stone Forest is said to have 300 forks, but in fact there are more than 300 forks. But don't worry, 2 hours is basically enough to see the main highlights. If you want to see it in a short time, you may need a tour guide.

I personally like to explore and play by myself. If you have enough time, you can play around for 4 hours. You can basically follow the navigation and walk slowly through the Big Stone Forest + Small Stone Forest (Ashima Statue). But it does not include the Lingzhi Scenic Area, which is a little far away and is a separate small scenic area.

⭐Route. According to the different entrances, I have summarized two small hiking loops in Dashilin, which take about 1 hour and both start from Shilin Inscription Square:

Route A - Choose when there are few people in the square. Entrance on the left side of the square - go to Wangfeng Pavilion first (to see the panoramic view of the Stone Forest) - Giant Elephant Stone Terrace - walk all the way to Jianfeng Pond - return to the Inscription Square

Route B - Choose when the square is crowded (at this time, there are also many people in Wangfeng Pavilion). Entrance on the right side of the square - first go to Jianfeng Pond - Giant Elephant Stone Terrace - Wangfeng Pavilion - back to the square.

Of course, there are many routes and ways to play. This is just a small loop. If you encounter a lot of people in the square, don't panic. Jianfeng Pool may only have 10% of people, and the further you go, the fewer people there are.

⭐If you plan to go to the museum, it is recommended to go there first, because the museum is located at the drop-off point where the eco-friendly bus takes you to the entrance, and the pick-up point for leaving the scenic area is on the other side. If you go to the museum last, you will have to take a detour and walk more than a thousand meters.

⭐There is only one small restaurant in the scenic area. Rice noodles are 10 yuan, fried rice is 25 yuan, and there are also stir-fried dishes. It is located near the Small Stone Forest. You can search for rice noodles across the bridge. On the way from the Small Stone Forest to the Big Stone Forest, there is also a small store with instant noodles. Mineral water in the scenic area is 5 yuan, and beverages are 6-10 yuan.

⭐It is recommended to bring some food and water. After entering the Dashilin, there are basically no shops and stalls, and if you hike for two or three hours, you will easily get tired and thirsty.

⭐There is mobile phone signal in most places in Shilin, and you can use Baidu Maps to navigate between scenic spots.

It's worth visiting. There is a bus from Kunming City that goes directly to Stone Forest. I remember it took less than 2 hours to get there. The ticket includes the Big and Small Stone Forest Scenic Areas, but we didn't even finish half of the Big Stone Forest before going home. It was a bit of a waste. It started raining just after we arrived at the entrance of the scenic area, but the rain stopped in less than half an hour. Popular attractions are crowded with people.

The Stone Forest Scenic Area is located in the Shilin Yi Autonomous County of Kunming City, far from the downtown of Kunming. There are buses to the Stone Forest Scenic Area at the Kunming Eastern Bus Station, with a fare of 34 yuan per person (including 2 yuan insurance), and the journey takes about one and a half hours. If you depart from the airport, there is an airport express line "Shilin Express" to the Stone Forest Scenic Area at the airport, with a fare of 50 yuan per person, and the journey takes about one and a half hours.

The ticket to the Stone Forest Scenic Area is 175 yuan, and the battery car is 25 yuan. After taking the battery car to the Stone Forest Scenic Area, you can officially enter the scenic area. We first went to the Big Stone Forest. Under the stone pillar with the word "Stone Forest" written on it, tourists were taking pictures, and it was impossible to find a place without people.

The best viewing spot in the Dashilin Scenic Area is Wangfeng Pavilion, where you can see the stone forest of the entire scenic area. Looking from the pavilion, the scenery is particularly spectacular, with strange rocks standing all around, straight and tall, very dense, some forty meters high, with walls as sharp as knives, some like sharp bamboo shoots, some like elephants, and some like flying birds.

The Small Stone Forest is much better, with a smaller scenic area. Moreover, the stone forest is scattered, forming a piece of scenic area, and the scenery is more beautiful, which is quite different from the scenery of the Big Stone Forest. The most famous here is of course Ashima. Beside a clear pool, Ashima stands gracefully, as if she is still waiting for her brother Ah He.

The scenery of Stone Forest is really great, worthy of being a 5A-level scenic spot. There are 3 5A-level scenic spots in Yunnan, Stone Forest, Jade Dragon Snow Mountain and Xishuangbanna Primeval Forest. There are 5 major areas in Stone Forest. We visited the big and small Stone Forests. If you want to visit all the Stone Forests, it will take 2 or 3 days. The small Stone Forest is more beautiful than the big Stone Forest. The combination of blue sky, green land, and sword-shaped karst landforms makes people realize what the magic of nature is. The scenery in China is beautiful, but the only bad thing is that there are too many people. We went there on the tenth day of the first lunar month, and there were still crowds of people!

I went there in February. I saw the ticket price was 175 on the Internet, but I found it was only 130 when I went there. I heard that the price was adjusted in January 2019. The scenery is beautiful, with blue sky and white clouds, the effect of taking pictures is more beautiful than seeing it with your own eyes, but it's just to enjoy the scenery. I feel that the ticket price is too expensive. After all, there are no entertainment projects. It feels like over-consuming the reputation of Yunnan Stone Forest, one of the four natural wonders in China. The biggest dissatisfaction is that the ticket office and the ticket gate are deliberately 3 kilometers apart. It is obvious that you can drive down, but you have to let tourists buy electric tickets to go down. It's really a pit! ! Also, I really have to complain about the people in Shilin. When I arrived at the hotel the night before, the attitude of the hotel waiter was so bad! I have stayed in so many hotels, and she may be the worst one I have ever seen! She had an iceberg face throughout the whole process, and she was so impatient with the customers who wanted to see the room next to her! The next day, I drove at the intersection and waited for the red light. I didn't notice that the sign said that the red light could be passed under safe conditions. The driver behind me kept honking the horn and yelling and cursing, just like Nima Er Daye! The people at the ticket office were also very impatient, as if someone owed them money. After playing in the scenic area, I wanted to take an electric car back to the parking lot. I asked a girl who drove an electric car where to take the return car. She also said with a look of pride, "Just walk up by yourself"... The girl and the guys were all awesome. I really don't understand where the people here get the confidence to make them feel so awesome!

My earliest impression of Shilin was my father’s cigarette box when I was a child. I was a little excited to see the original here. I wanted to take a better photo, but there were too many people in the scenic area.

The scenic area is quite large, and the word I can think of is jagged rocks. The tour guide will tell you that this is called Dapeng Spreading Wings, and then say that this is a mouse eating ham, well, some of them do look very similar, hehe.

There are many small scenic spots in the Stone Forest Scenic Area. In addition to the Stone Forest with the inscription of Long Yun, there is another small Stone Forest called Ashima Scenic Area. The impression of Ashima also comes from the old movie "Ashima" that I watched with my mother when I was a child. At that time, I was young and ignorant and could not understand the pure love between Ashima and Ahei. I just thought the movie was very lively.

Beyond expectations, thumbs up. Went there in January 2019.

1. After getting off the electric car, you should go to the Stone Forest Museum to have a look. There are free explanations inside. There are various minerals on display, red and blue sapphires, large ancient trees, cut stalactites, and fossils, many of which have broken the Guinness World Record. There are many kinds of "stones", and I strongly recommend everyone to take a look.

2. The battery car has inner and outer loops. The outer loop is from the ticket hall to the gate of the scenic area (actually to the entrance of the Stone Forest Museum, which is a two-minute walk from the gate). The inner loop is around the big stone forest and get off at the small stone forest. The scenery is nice. I did a circle and walked around again, which took about 50 minutes. I could see the stone forest in the distance, which was very spectacular.

4. The Shilin Scenic Area has a WeChat public account with basic explanations and routes. You can also hire a tour guide for 100 yuan. I didn’t hire one. The scenic area was full of tour guides and tour groups, so I just listened to them.

The parking lot of Yunnan Stone Forest Scenic Area is quite large. There was no problem of finding a parking space, nor was there a traffic jam at the entrance. But the tickets are super expensive. The parking lot of the scenic area is 3 kilometers away from the gate of the scenic area. If you don't spend 35 yuan for the battery car, you will break your legs. The scenery is picturesque, but the wallet is hurting. It's great to listen to folk songs for free during the Spring Festival. It's just that there are a lot of people, and it's far away, and the video looks like a row of heads. It looks like there are many scenic spots, but in fact, you can basically finish it in two hours if you walk and take pictures.

The design of the Stone Forest Scenic Area and the scenic area station. I didn't find any guide signs to find the ticket office from the tourist bus parking spot, and there was no clue within my sight. It was very unfriendly. There were all kinds of sales on the way to the ticket office. Anyway, I successfully entered the visitor center with the help of the map. The scenic area is originally a walking area. It is 3 kilometers from the ticket office to the gate of the scenic area. The battery car is used to go back and forth. Normally, I would ask for an interpreter, but it is too luxurious for one person to ask for an interpreter alone, so I refused.

There are only a few main roads in the Stone Forest. The outermost one is a circular road that can be driven by cars. There are no signs on the ups and downs paths in the Stone Forest, so if there is no tour guide, you have to rely on luck.

At first, I followed the group of tourists and the tour guide, but after walking a short distance, I found that everyone basically only took the largest roads and ignored many forks in the road. I like to take a traversal tour, so I left the main route and started to travel through various ditches.

I didn’t take many photos at the main attractions in Shilin, but I felt a little surprised at the places that the tour guide didn’t take people to visit.

In addition to the surprising small attractions, there are also large but unvisited attractions, such as the One Line Sky. The One Line Sky attraction is marked on the maps of various places in the scenic area, but I couldn’t find the path at first. When I gave up this attraction and prepared to go to the Small Stone Forest, the sign on the road pointed to a completely deserted fork in the road, marked with "One Line Sky".

Although it can be considered a new discovery, this road without people is too long. The stone forests on both sides are very high, and the path in the middle is very narrow, which makes people feel very oppressive. Although it is still sunny and blue outside, it is very cold in the stone forest. It always feels like there is no sunlight, which can be said to be very scary. In the end, I was eager to get out and only took a photo. When I saw other people outside, I felt relieved.

I have been to the Stone Forest Scenic Area once when I was in college, but I always felt that I had not seen enough, so I went there again later. The stones in the main scenic area of ​​the Stone Forest are magnificent and majestic. The attractions such as the Line of Sky, the Critical Moment, the Spreading Wings of the Peng, the Wanlin Peak, and the Jianfeng Peak are all worth seeing. The small stone forest is also a beautiful scene with mountains and peaks. It is recommended to set aside a whole day to play. The tour guide will not take you to many dangerous places. It is recommended to go by yourself, but you must pay attention to safety. The Stone Museum at the entrance is also very good. There are many paleontological fossils and stones, mineral introductions, and you can understand the process of biological evolution. It is a good learning opportunity for teenagers at home. The ticket price is a little expensive but worth the price. Recommended.

The entrance to the scenic area is some distance away from the ticket office. Various small fruits are hanging on the trees along the road, and bougainvillea can be seen everywhere. Of course, since the entrance is quite far from the real scenery (said to be 3 kilometers), we still bought tickets for the electric car.

Shilin is a forest of stones. The karst landforms form stones one by one. (It feels like a condensed version of Zhangjiajie, where mountains are one by one...)

There are cacti growing on many rocks. After discussing for a long time, I think they are not artificially planted. They are really tenacious!

There are many narrow openings in Shilin, some of which are so narrow that even a thin person can barely pass through.

In general, the Stone Forest is pretty good and worth a visit if you have enough time.

The Stone Forest must be accompanied by the blue sky and white clouds, a specialty of Yunnan. It was cloudy and rainy, and it felt average. I was lucky, it was cloudy when I went there, and it felt nothing. Later, the sun came out, the blue sky and white clouds came, and the scenery felt straight up. There are some small pits in the battery car (the parking lot is deliberately built far away, which is a semi-mandatory consumption).

The one-day tour from Kunming to Stone Forest also had some minor problems. It seemed like a one-day trip, but in fact, it was less than three hours in the park, which was a bit rushed. The tour guide of our group did not wear ethnic costumes (many tour guides wore ethnic costumes, which felt good), which was a bit regrettable. The tour guide service was still good.

If possible, stay at Shilin in advance and enter the temple early in the morning, so you can have a few hours of peace. The tour group from Kunming will arrive around 10 o'clock, and there will be a lot of people. The advantage of having a large tour group is that you don't need to hire a tour guide, and you don't have to worry about missing the tour guide's explanation.

Most of the parking lots in domestic scenic spots are built far away, and the same is true for the Stone Forest Scenic Area. From the parking lot, you have to spend another 25 yuan to take an electric car to reach the scenic area.

After entering the gate, there are two stone tablets with an introduction to the Stone Forest Geopark and the National Geopark and National Key Scenic Area.

We spent 160 yuan to hire a tour guide named "Ashima" to give us a two-hour explanation of the scenic area.

You must go to the Stone Forest Scenic Area when you go to Kunming. After all, it is a "World Geopark" named by UNESCO. Since you are in Yunnan, there is no reason not to go and see it. Step by step, I go deeper into it, sweating lightly, but my heart is getting calmer and calmer. Often, it gets cooler and cooler. When I look up, I find that I have entered the "One Line Sky", which reminds me of the thin alley that I chased with my friends when I was a child. Walking out of the thin cracks in the stone silently, it is suddenly sunny and there is a different world. Maybe it is just like this when the people of Wuling find a paradise on earth.

According to netizens' guide, there won't be many people as long as you go deep into the stone forest. This is actually true. There is really no one in the hinterland of the stone forest. However, you must bring food with you. The stone forest is very large and you can't get out at noon. There is no place to eat at all, not even a small store. In fact, these stones are quite interesting when you look closely. When walking through the stone forest, you will often encounter very narrow places, and some narrow slits have three bends. If you are not in good shape, it is a bit difficult to pass through. Haha.

I was mesmerized when I entered the Stone Forest Scenic Area. The blue sky and white clouds, the beautiful sun and the gentle breeze, the jagged rocks, the green lake and the grass, the colors were harmonious and perfect. We took pictures along the way and came across a group of grandparents playing the piano and dancing. They were cheerful and rhythmic, and they were indeed the people of Yunnan who were good at singing and dancing. One of the scenic spots was the location of Journey to the West, and the effect of the photos was quite interesting. The things in the scenic area are very expensive. A bottle of Sprite costs 10 yuan, and a refrigerator magnet costs 38 yuan, which is more than three times more expensive than online. I couldn't help but not buy it. Finally, I came to the Little Stone Forest, which is the Ashima Scenic Area. Every photo I took felt like a computer desktop.

The 5A-level scenic spot is particularly beautiful when there are few people. The big stone forest is composed of dense stone peaks, which are upright and abrupt with smooth lines; the small stone forest is beautiful and picturesque, which is very similar to some scenes in Europe.

Stone Forest is only 100 kilometers away from downtown Kunming. As a world natural heritage, a 5A-level scenic spot, and a representative of karst landforms, it is definitely worth a visit.

There are still many tourists at the entrance, but most of them don't go deep into the stone forest, but walk around outside to take pictures. At first I thought everyone was lazy, but after entering I found that the road inside was winding, uphill and downhill, and there was no sense of direction at all. It is easy for ordinary people to get lost in the scenic area, not to mention the elderly or people with poor directions. I relied on two mobile map apps to find the general direction along the way. Anyway, I didn't dare to waste time, but there were no less than 5 people asking me for directions on the way. I suggest that everyone should also be cautious when going deep into the Stone Forest Mountain.

The ticket price is getting higher and higher. Although it is good, I still hope it is less.

I like this scenic spot very much. The scenery is very unique and it is also very large. It is difficult for ordinary people to complete the tour. It is easy to get lost if you wander around aimlessly. The physical strength requirement is 3 stars. The transportation is not very friendly. I bought the ticket at the Eastern Bus Station. I waited for 1 hour before the bus to Shilin was 11 o'clock. I waited for 40 minutes before the bus left when I came back.

This is the third time I have visited the Stone Forest Scenic Area! The first two times were in August, the sun was scorching, and the heat was unbearable! There were already many tourists at that time. Following the flow of people, we walked into the "forest" composed of rocks. Walking through it, we saw strange rocks standing in a forest, abrupt and majestic, with different postures. Everyone took out their mobile phones or cameras to capture this magical stone forest! Under the stone peak engraved with the two big characters "Shilin", more and more tourists came! People rushed to take pictures here! Many tourists rented Yi costumes and posed in various poses to leave this unforgettable memory! In front of the "Shiping Peak" and next to "Ashima", relatives who were traveling together embraced each other and hugged each other for pictures. Everyone rushed to take pictures of each other and recorded this eternal intimacy! From the big stone forest, we took the scenic area battery car to the small stone forest. Unlike the big stone forest, the mountains and rivers here blend together, and the vision is wider! Over time, the limestone pillars separated from each other, and after being eroded by wind and rain, countless stone peaks, pillars, stalagmites and stone buds grew, forming a stone forest of various shapes and sizes that combines strange rocks, waterfalls, lakes, caves, peaks and hills.

To enter the scenic area, you still need to take a battery car first, and then you can reach the ticket check ramp. The big stone forest is composed of dense stone peaks, like a stone basin. The stone forest here is upright and abrupt, with smooth lines and a light blue-gray color. The highest independent rock pillar is more than 40 meters high. Among them are typical scenic spots such as "Lotus Peak", "Jianfeng Pool", "Critical Moment", "Extreme Narrow Pass", "Elephant Stone Platform", "Lonely Valley", and "Phoenix Combing Wings". The most famous one is the "Stone Forest Scenic Spot" where Long Yun inscribed "Stone Forest", and the "Wangfeng Pavilion" is the best place to appreciate the "Forest Sea".

Maybe it was because of the original reputation of the Stone Forest that I had too high expectations for it, or maybe it was because the Earth Forest was too amazing yesterday, which made the Stone Forest pale in comparison. In short, I was a little disappointed with the Stone Forest. In my opinion, the Stone Forest is not as cost-effective as the Earth Forest.
