If you have the energy, you can go hiking and walk along the scenic bus up and down the mountain road to the Longmen Scenic Area Archway and Nie Er's Tomb;

You can also take the scenic bus up the mountain and visit Huating Temple and Taihua Temple (you don’t need to buy a ticket to get on and off the bus).

There are three options for entering the Longmen Scenic Area: 1. Take the cable car up the mountain and walk down to Longmen; 2. Take the sightseeing electric car to Sanqing Pavilion; 3. Walk for 15 minutes along the sightseeing bus road to Sanqing Pavilion; then walk back up the stone steps to Fenghuang Rock, and walk up the cliff path on the east side to Longmen, where you can see the endless Dianchi Lake in Kunming.

In addition to driving, taxis, and buses, the best means of transportation to Xishan Park is to take Metro Line 3, get off at Xishan Park Station, and walk 20 meters from Exit A to the Xishan Park Ticket Center and the scenic area bus boarding point. The one-way fare is 12.50 yuan per person, and the scenic area entrance fee is 30 yuan per person; people over 60 years old are half-price, and people over 70 years old are free.

This time I went to Longmen Ecological Park, including Sanqing Pavilion. I bought a package from China-TravelNote, which included a bus to the West Mountain Scenic Area, Longmen entrance tickets, a mountain cable car, and an electric car. China-TravelNote was having a big sale, and with all the red envelopes, coupons, and honey, I was able to get the package, which originally cost 62 yuan, for only 10 yuan.

When using the package ticket, I made a stupid mistake. I didn't know where the electric car went from and to, nor did I know what kind of electric car it was. I thought I would climb up the mountain in the Longmen Scenic Area and then take the cable car down. As a result, I found out halfway that the so-called electric car was the kind of tourist bus in the scenic area that had no doors on both sides and could seat many people.

The Longmen Stone Carving Project is the essence of the project. Climbing up the Longmen, looking down from the railing, you can see a cliff that is hundreds of feet high; looking out into the distance, the sea and the sky merge into one.

There are few people, so it's a great place to take photos. It only takes about an hour to climb up, but it's a pain in the knees to go down, so I recommend taking the cable car.

It's rubbish, it's all a scam. A 70-yuan cable car tricks you into going to Longmen and then charges you money.

As a Yunnan native, everyone should have been there.

There's a saying that "If you don't visit Xishan, you haven't been to Kunming, and if you don't visit Longmen, you've wasted your trip." The scenery here can be summed up as "strange, unique, dangerous, and secluded." Longmen is also an excellent vantage point for panoramic views of Dianchi Lake (Kunming Lake), and is a great place to admire the full moon during the Mid-Autumn Festival. Admission is free, but individual attractions within the scenic area charge fees: Longmen is 40 yuan, a combined ticket for Huating Temple and Taihua Temple is 20 yuan, and Nie Er's Tomb is 1 yuan. The Longmen cable car is 25 yuan one way and 50 yuan round-trip.

There were many stone steps, and the two of us climbed them one by one. I felt like we had advanced our later years by decades. It was cool on the mountain, with a breeze blowing. My companion said she liked the smell of the earth, the smell of soil. Yes, she is the daughter of the earth~

We took the ropeway down the mountain, which was more comfortable than the cable car. Although it was a bit sunny, we could directly feel the wind. Sometimes the high leaves hit our feet, which was very realistic.

I personally prefer the cable car up Longmen Mountain. It's an open-top cable car that can only accommodate two people at a time. I went up with one person on the left and a backpack on the right. It was a delightful experience, wasn't it? The scenery and photos are fantastic from the cable car, and the route up is relatively flat, so women don't need to be intimidated. Upon arrival, you can pick up an electronic guide at the entrance to the scenic area, which you can listen to as you walk. The path up the mountain isn't particularly steep, so there's no need to rush. I took my time, taking in the scenery and taking photos. On clear days, you can overlook downtown Kunming from the mountain. The famous "Haigeng National Sports Training Base" is located on the other side of Dianchi Lake. The Chinese national football team often comes here for closed-door training sessions during spring training and before major tournaments. Unfortunately, their performance has been disappointing, failing to live up to the expectations of the Chinese people.

Xishan Longmen Scenic Area is the core scenic area of Kunming Xishan. It is a group of caves, grottoes and Buddhist temples located on the cliffs.

There is a saying that goes, "If you don't visit Xishan, it's like you haven't been to Kunming; if you don't visit Longmen, it's like you've gone to Xishan in vain."

I went there during the Qingming Festival in 2017. It was neither too hot nor too cold, and the weather was pleasant.

The feelings from last year are still there, but this year they are already in the past. When I see Xishan, I can still recall the situation at that time. We took the Xishan cross-sea cable car to Xishan. Everyone said that Xishan was average, but if you come to Kunming and don’t visit Xishan, you will feel sorry for your trip to Kunming.

After getting off the cable car, it takes a few minutes to walk to Longmen, a stone archway located on the viewing plank road. Someone once said, "If you don't climb Longmen, you have not come to Kunming in vain." Longmen is the essence of the entire Xishan Park and the best viewing platform for overlooking the entire Kunming and Dianchi Lake. Standing on the viewing platform and looking forward, Dianchi Lake and the clear sky are the same color. For a moment, you will feel like you are standing on a boundless ocean.

The Xishan Longmen Scenic Area, the core scenic area of Kunming's Xishan Mountains, is a complex of caves, grottoes, and Buddhist temples nestled atop a cliff face. The terrain is treacherous, with paths hugging the cliff face. Caves sometimes cut through the cliff edge, often leading to a chasm. Exiting the caves often reveals a new world, whether it's a cliff carving or a fairy-like temple. Xishan Longmen, with its many perils, is also filled with hidden gems. The scenic area's iconic landmark is the Dragon Gate Memorial Archway, situated just before the perilous path along the cliff edge. Its peril is palpable, and anyone who has visited it can truly appreciate its dangers.

It is said that after 72 years of excavation, the inscriptions and carvings on the stone wall have added a humanistic feeling to the scenery of Longmen.

The Longmen Grottoes are located at the end of the Xishan Scenic Area, stretching from Sanqing Pavilion in the north to Datian Pavilion in the south. They are the largest and most exquisite Taoist grottoes in Yunnan. Characterized by its unique beauty, uniqueness, danger, and seclusion, the Longmen Grottoes are the most scenic of Kunming's Xishan Districts. They are highly renowned both domestically and internationally, and are a must-see for every visitor to Kunming. As a result, there's a saying that goes, "If you don't visit Xishan, you haven't visited Kunming, and if you don't visit Longmen, you've wasted your trip to Xishan."

From Xishan Longmen, you can see the magnificent view of Dianchi Lake, or you can take the cable car down to Haigeng Park.

Located south of Sanqing Pavilion, Longmen encompasses a stone carving project carved into the sheer cliff face, stretching from the "Other Caves" gate in the north to Datian Pavilion in the south. Originally, between Luohan Mountain and Guabang Mountain, there were four caves on the cliff face, running from north to south. During the Jiajing period of the Ming Dynasty, one of the caves north of Sanqing Pavilion was opened, and a "Xueshi Xiaolou" (small building with a cave-like structure) was built. At that time, access to this cave required climbing a rope and crossing a dangerous plank path.

Xishan Longmen is a scenic spot in Kunming, built during the Yuan and Ming dynasties. It stretches from the "Bieyoudongtian" stone gate south of the "Xiaoniu Spring" at Sanqing Pavilion in the north to the "Datian Pavilion" at Longmen in the south, a grotto project built on a thousand-foot-high cliff.

I went to Xishan when I was a freshman. I thought it was pretty good. You can see Dianchi Lake from it.

This landmark scenic spot in Kunming is a place every Kunming resident knows. I'm not used to calling it Xishan Park now, but the old name, Xishan, is more familiar. Xishan Longmen Scenic Area is difficult to find on Amap. I recommend searching directly for Gaoyao Bus Station. The parking lot is just north and west of the bus station. I bought a package ticket for Longmen Scenic Area, following the recommended route: take a sightseeing bus from the ticket office near the parking lot to the main gate, take the cable car up the mountain, walk down, take an electric car back to the main gate, and then take the sightseeing bus back to the ticket office/parking lot. This way, I avoid the climb and save on effort. The adult package on Tuniu is very affordable, even cheaper than the children's package sold on site. It's a great deal.

What's interesting about the Longmen Scenic Area is that they give you an electronic guide. As you approach a scenic spot, the corresponding light illuminates and provides historical information about that spot. It's a nice touch, and it doesn't cost extra. Longmen Scenic Area boasts views of Dianchi Lake, grottoes, and stone carvings, creating a rich cultural atmosphere. The saying "reaching Longmen will increase your wealth a hundredfold" is also a good omen.

Arriving at Longmen is basically the same as reaching the summit of Xishan Mountain.

Tell me about my itinerary

I left the city at 7:50 AM and rode a Mobike to the Dianchi Lake Cableway (you can find it on Baidu Maps). The ride took 63 minutes, covering a total of 12.3 kilometers. I used the restroom and bought tickets for the Dianchi Lake Cableway at 8:55 AM. The round-trip cost 70 yuan, and the caboose seats four people. After purchasing the tickets, I waited five minutes for the cableway to open (it opened at 9:00 AM) and the first wave of tourists ascended to the Xishan Scenic Area. The cableway is divided into two sections. The first section skims over Dianchi Lake and stops at the foot of Xishan. Don't get off the caboose at this point; continue walking. The second section runs from the foot of Xishan to halfway up the mountain. This is the end of the Dianchi Lake Cableway. On the way back, you can retrace your steps.

Once you're halfway up the mountain, you need to buy tickets for the Xishan Scenic Area. There are three types of tickets: a required scenic area ticket, a Longmen Cableway ticket, and a tour bus ticket. I bought all three and took the Longmen Cableway to the top (it's an open-air cableway for two people), then toured the area from the top down to the bus stop, where I took the bus back halfway up the mountain.

In the scenic area, there are free guided tours and audio guides. However, the guides walked too fast, and I was rushed to leave before I had time to take photos of many beautiful scenery. I suggest you don't rush, walk slowly, and take photos slowly. The area is not big, and it takes about two hours to finish the tour. The guides come every three to five minutes, so it doesn't matter who you follow.

I went down the mountain to the Dianchi Lake cable car at about 11:20, so this way of walking was not tiring and suitable for a short tour of Kunming during transit.

Xishan Longmen is located in Kunming. Starting from the "Xiaoniu Spring" stone gate south of Sanqing Pavilion in the north, and ending at the "Datian Pavilion" in the south, the entire grotto project on the thousand-meter-high cliff is collectively called "Longmen".

I had made some travel plans for Yunnan and decided to rest for a night after my flight before heading out from my hotel to Xishan the next day. We took a tour bus to the visitor center and then took the open-air cable car up to the top of the mountain and then down to Longmen. It was a blast. I'm really afraid of heights, hahaha. When I got to the highest point overlooking Dianchi Lake, I was told it was over 30 meters high. I was snapping photos with my camera to avoid looking down. My friends kept laughing at my shaking hands, hahaha. I think the cable car equipment is a bit old. Longmen is a classic and a must-see. I remember a little girl was also taking photos while I was taking them. After I helped her out, she told me that when she was a kid, the dragon ball was huge, but now it's smaller because people are touching it so much. It's said that touching the dragon ball with your left hand is effective and can bring wealth, hahaha. The scenery here is also stunning, with Dianchi Lake below split into two different colors. It's a must-see. While it's a popular spot for locals, it's not often seen by us. After visiting Longmen, walk down the mountain to the Dianchi Lake cable car, which takes you directly to the Ethnic Village and Haigeng Dam (unfortunately, they don't have student tickets). It's very convenient.

When you climb the West Mountain, you must visit Longmen. After passing Sanqing Pavilion, you will reach Longmen. Longmen is located at the top of the West Mountain, on the cliff of Luohan Peak. From Longmen, you can follow the plank road to the top of the mountain.

The weather was rather overcast on our visit. As the cable car weaved through the mountains, wisps of mist drifted before my eyes, giving me the feeling of being in the clouds, though my photos weren't clear. I've decided to bring my DSLR camera next time, even if it's a bit cumbersome. After getting off the cable car, we officially began our tour of Longmen. There were free audio guides at the entrance, but they weren't very effective and were quite cumbersome, so we opted for none... I'd have preferred a cheaper ticket price... It was the full price of 40 yuan. While the scenic area isn't large, the mountain roads are incredibly winding, and two of my classmates had rough falls there. The weather wasn't great on our visit, and the view from Longmen was hazy. A bright sunny day would have offered a panoramic view of Dianchi Lake, which would have been stunning. I recommend checking the weather forecast for Longmen visitors. The image below is Longmen. It's said that touching it brings good luck, so many tourists line up to try their luck.

Xishan Longmen is very unique, but there is one thing to note: it is said that there is a curse here. Couples will break up after coming here, while ordinary couples who are not lovers will become a couple after coming here. It depends on your opinion!

It's just an old gate with a plaque, just like all the gates of scenic spots, so you can just pass by and take a photo to show that you've been there. There's no need to come here specially to see it.

A must-see attraction in Kunming, just one afternoon of leisure time is enough.

Highly recommended, the view is great. It's best to climb to the top yourself. Kunming is over 1,800 meters above sea level. From the top you can see a panoramic view of the entire city, and it's relatively close to the clouds! The scenery below is also great, and the gods enshrined are all native Chinese Taoist gods!

The most beautiful scenic spot in Xishan is Longmen. The buildings and murals inside are quite good.

Descending from the summit, we reach Longmen, a classic attraction in the Western Hills. Longmen is nestled on the southern cliffs of the Western Hills. Descending from the summit and winding around the southern face of the mountain, we discover a path carved into the precipice. Originally several caves, it was carved by local Taoist Wu during the Qianlong reign. Through the generations, the path and stone carvings carved into the cliff face of Longmen have been carved. The faith of these ancestors, fueled by their spirit, has become a prime attraction in Kunming today. Descending along the cliff face, we enter a cave, a loop connected to the summit recently constructed to divert tourists. Small temples line the cliff face, and not far away lies Longmen's focal point: a narrow stone archway with the inscription "Longmen" engraved on it. This is a signature scene of the Western Hills scenic area, a scene I've seen in countless photos over the years. Resting in front of the archway, the hundreds of meters of cliffs, overlooking the vast Dianchi Lake, and a stone path barely wide enough for two people to pass sideways, is truly awe-inspiring.

Getting to Longmen is quite unique. Longmen is located in the Xishan Scenic Area, which is quite large and cannot be enclosed as a single scenic area. Admission fees are collected at several scenic spots and the Longmen Scenic Area. We took bus No. 51 from the train station to the Xishan Scenic Area Visitor Center Ticket Office. From there, we could take the scenic bus (ticket required) which went along the Huating Temple and Taihua Temple to the Longmen Scenic Area Gate in the middle of the mountain. From there, we could enter the scenic area and reach Longmen by cable car, electric car, or on foot.

Another way to get to Longmen Scenic Area is to go to Haigeng Park first, where there is a cable car that goes directly to the gate of Longmen Scenic Area.

The Dragon Gate at Kunming's West Hill is the best place to view Dianchi Lake. Going up the mountain to the Dragon Gate and looking down at Dianchi Lake is a unique experience.

Fortunately, my companion had an alcohol cotton pad. It was also awesome. Try to stay away from insects here. It hurt. The climb is mainly stairs, not very steep. The scenery on both sides is not very interesting, but it is good to see Dianchi Lake. I also recommend everyone to go up to see Dianchi Lake, the panoramic view, and Kunming city, as shown in the picture. This is also the closest attraction to Kunming city. If you have limited time, you can visit this attraction.

It is very convenient to go there now. The cable car to Xishan Mountain is not far away from the National Village. Longmen is at the top of Xishan Mountain. If you don’t go to Longmen, it means you haven’t reached Xishan Mountain!

The address is on the West Hill of Kunming. Actually, there is not much to do inside, but you can see the panoramic view of Dianchi Lake from Longmen, which is still very good.

On the south side of this fault, a stone passageway was carved from the cliff face by hammering and drilling. Along the way, a tunnel winds its way, about the height of a person. The caverns, like windows, offer a breathtaking view of the abyss below. Standing atop them, one can take in the panoramic view of the 500-mile-long Dianchi Lake. At the summit stands the "Kuixing Pavilion." Along the way, one can see the famous "Phoenix Holding a Book." Because the stone archway of the "Datian Pavilion" (Datian Pavilion) bears the inscription "Dragon Gate," this place is known as the Dragon Gate.

Longmen is one of the scenic spots in Xishan. The so-called Longmen Grottoes, featuring both Taoist and Buddhist structures, are built into the cliffs. Of course, they can't be compared to the Longmen Grottoes in Henan. While smaller in scale, they hold a rich history and are revered by the local people. I've heard that locals often visit the mountain to worship before exams. Standing on the cliffs and looking down is a bit intimidating. While it's a bit steep, the descent is also breathtakingly beautiful.

As a landmark tourist attraction in Kunming, Xishan Longmen is a good place to look at Kunming from afar. Longmen Grottoes are very unique.

There were too many people. I was young at the time and thought it was the Longmen Grottoes.

If you have more time and energy, you can climb up and take a look. The grottoes are of course empty, but the carp leaping over the dragon gate is quite impressive. It's also a good place to take a walk.

Longmen is located above Xishan Mountain. It is said that it got its name because of its dragon-like shape. It takes some distance to get to Longmen from the cable car. You need to buy a separate ticket to enter Longmen. There is nothing particularly good to see in Longmen. I suggest you take a walk on the way to Longmen. When you get out of the cable car, you will see Nie Er's tomb, which is also worth going in to see. Anyway, it is free.

You can imagine how difficult it was to dig a hole and build a road on the cliff. Standing on the cliff, you can enjoy the scenery of the lake and the city, look up at the blue sky, and feel the wind blowing past you on the cliff. Looking down at the mountain, it is thrilling and exciting. The buildings spread from the foot of the mountain to the junction of sky and water. The feeling is indescribable.

This attraction is connected to Haigeng Park, the scenery is very nice, highly recommended!

Kunming Longmen is located south of Sanqing Pavilion and can be reached by taking bus No. 5 or No. 6.

On the cliffs of Xishan, you can overlook the whole Kunming and Kunming! You can finish the tour quickly.

It's worth going, you can see the panoramic view of Kunming and Dianchi Lake.
